Abstract
The main etiology of sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) is uncertain and vascular problems have been proposed as one of the underlying factors in this disease. Patients with SSNHL and people without any hearing or ear disorders as the control group were included in the study (aged 18-65 years). Clinical examination, pure tone audiometry, and color doppler ultrasound of the neck vessels were performed for all patients and control subjects, on both sides, to check blood flow, peak systolic velocity (PSV), vascular diameter, and intima-media thickness (IMT) in the common carotid (CCA), vertebral (VA), and internal carotid arteries (ICA). Thirty-three patients and 33 control subjects enrolled in the study. Comparing ultrasonography findings in the involved and non-involved side in the patients' group, blood flow in the VA and CCA was 85.66 (33.52), 113.42 (40.26) and 390 (431.5-358.0), 405 (437.0-339.0), respectively, and IMT in the ICA and CCA was 0.7 (0.6-0.8), 0/6 (0.5-0.7), and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). On the other hand, comparing the results between the case and control groups, blood flow in the VA, the IMT in the CCA, and the PSV in the VA in the involved ear were significantly different (P < 0.05). Vascular indices, like blood flow in the VA and the IMT in the CCA, are different in SSNHL cases.

Abstract
Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL) is believed to be mainly idiopathic since the cause is not usually identified. Several recent studies have examined the role of cardiovascular risk factors in this disease. The aim of this systematic literature review is to investigate the possible association between acquired and inherited cardiovascular risk factors and the incidence, severity, and prognosis of SSHL. A systematic review was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. A search of the PubMed database for the period between February 2010 and January 2023 was performed in order to retrieve eligible articles. The analytic cohort included 24 studies. Overall, this systematic review includes a total of 61,060 patients that were encompassed in these studies. According to most studies, the prevalence of dyslipidaemia, diabetes, and ultrasound indices of atherosclerosis was significantly higher in SSHL patients compared to controls. On the other hand, obesity, hypertension, and smoking did not seem to influence the risk of SSHL. Most studies suggest the presence of a correlation between a high cardiovascular risk profile and the risk of developing SSHL. The theory of microvascular impairment in the development of SSHL is indirectly supported by the findings of this review.

Abstract
(1) Background: The etiologies of sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL) remain unclear. The level of mean particulate matter with a diameter of 2.5 μm or less (PM2.5) was not associated with SSHL, but the maximum PM2.5 level exhibited a negative association with SSHL in Korea. Exposure to nitrogen dioxide (NO2) for 2 weeks increased the risk of SSHL. The lag effects of SSHL after air pollution exposure were limited. We aimed to evaluate the association of SSHL with air pollution exposure to determine whether air pollution exposure caused delayed effects. (2) Methods: This observational study used inpatient data obtained from electronic health records at the Tri-Service General Hospital from 2011 to 2019. The data of all SSHL patients were retrieved. The air quality dataset from Songshan station from 2011 to 2019 was used. The main outcomes were the relative risks (RRs) of SSHL associated with PM2.5, O3, and NO2 exposures within 1 month. The relationships between these factors were examined using distributed lag nonlinear time series models. (3) Results: The RR of SSHL associated with PM2.5 exposure was 1.195 (95% confidence interval (C.I.: 1.047-1.363) for a 10 unit increase at a lag of 7 days. The RR of SSHL associated with O3 exposure was 1.14 (95% C.I.: 1.003-1.3) for a 10 unit increase at a lag of 9 days. The RR of SSHL associated with NO2 exposure was 1.284 (95% C.I.: 1.05-1.57) for a 10 unit increase at a lag of 23 days. (4) Conclusions: In our study, SSHL was confirmed to be associated with air pollution exposure with a lag effect. We discussed possible mechanisms to explore possible biological hypotheses and support further research. Large-scale studies including participants with other ethnicities and causal relationships are needed to confirm our findings.

Abstract
The triad of noise-generated, drug-induced, and age-related hearing loss is the major cause of acquired sensorineural hearing loss (ASNHL) in modern society. Although these three forms of hearing loss display similar underlying mechanisms, detailed studies have revealed the presence of sex differences in the auditory system both in human and animal models of ASNHL. However, the sexual dimorphism of hearing varies among noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), ototoxicity, and age-related hearing loss (ARHL). Importantly, estrogen may play an essential role in modulating the pathophysiological mechanisms in the cochlea and several reports have shown that the effects of hormone replacement therapy on hearing loss are complex. This review will summarize the clinical features of sex differences in ASNHL, compare the animal investigations of cochlear sexual dimorphism in response to the three insults, and address how estrogen affects the auditory organ at molecular levels.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate the association of the prognosis and severity of idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSNHL) with cervical ultrasonographic findings suggestive of cardiovascular risk. METHODS Seventy-four inpatients with ISSNHL were included in our study. Cervical ultrasonography was performed to evaluate the common carotid artery (CCA), internal carotid artery (ICA), and vertebral artery (VA). The peak systolic velocity, end diastolic velocity, intima-media thickness, pulsatility index (PI), and resistance index (RI) were evaluated. We investigated the relationship of these variables with the severity and prognosis of ISSNHL. RESULTS ICA-PI, ICA-RI, and CCA-RI were significantly higher in patients with poor hearing prognosis than in those with good prognosis. The variables of VA were not related to the prognosis of ISSNHL. There were no statistically significant differences between ISSNHL severity and cervical ultrasonographic findings. CONCLUSIONS We found that PI and RI might be prognostic factors for ISSNHL.
