Abstract
Dietary modification is a cornerstone and a primary goal for weight loss, whose effects may be related to epigenetic phenomena. In this literature review, a comprehensive search without time restriction was performed in PubMed/Medline, Cochrane, SciELO, and Scopus databases to identify epigenetic signatures related to obesity outcomes upon dietary advice. In this context, experimental studies and clinical trials have identified certain DNA methylation marks, miRNA expression profiles and histone modifications putatively associated with adiposity outcomes after different nutritional interventions. These include traditional dietary patterns, diets with different macronutrient compositions, and supplementation with fatty acids, amino acids and derivatives, methyl donors, vitamins and minerals, probiotics and prebiotics, and bioactive food compounds. Some of these epigenetic signatures have been mapped to genes involved in food intake control, adipogenesis, lipolysis, fatty acid oxidation, body fat deposition, and gut microbiota modulation. However, additional studies are still required to address dosage and follow-up variability, validation of epigenetic marks, genome-wide approaches, and appropriate statistical settings. Although more investigation is required, these insights may contribute to the characterization of epigenetic biomarkers of body weight regulation toward the prescription of tailored dietary strategies targeting the epigenome for a more precise obesity management and control.

Abstract
The United States, and many modern nations, represent assemblies of many cultural groups. Such groups are often influenced, sometimes profoundly, by the culinary traditions of their countries of origin, resulting in a diversity of cultural dietary patterns. Such patterns all derive key elements of nutritional quality from essential food groups-such as vegetables and fruits-but vary in their inclusion of "discretionary" food groups, such as dairy. The application of robust, validated, and standardized diet quality scoring is important in nutrition research, and in the food-as-medicine movement at large if what is being "managed" is to be measured. While robustly validated, the Healthy Eating Index is closely aligned with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and thus may not readily account for all multicultural dietary variations. Other diet quality metrics account for deviation from the prevailing American dietary pattern, but none does so in a way that expressly adapts to food components included or excluded so that "credit" for nutritional quality is appropriately assigned in all cases using a standard metric. In this context, we introduce and explain Adaptive Component Scoring as applied to the Healthy Eating Index in the service of advancing fair and universal diet quality scoring. Implications for nutrition research and food-as-medicine initiatives are briefly enumerated.

Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms, primarily due to the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc). Factors contributing to this neuronal degeneration include mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and neuronal excitotoxicity. Despite extensive research, the exact etiology of PD remains unclear, with both genetic and environmental factors playing significant roles. Given the increasing prevalence of PD, particularly in aging populations, effective preventive and therapeutic strategies are urgently needed. Emerging research suggests that dietary interventions might offer promising approaches to managing PD progression. This literature review examines various dietary interventions that differ in their composition and mechanisms of action, including the Mediterranean, vegan, carnivore, paleo, and ketogenic diets, and their potential neuroprotective effects. By evaluating the current evidence, this review aims to identify dietary strategies that may improve the quality of life for individuals with PD. Additionally, it explores the underlying mechanisms through which diet may influence PD pathophysiology, thus providing insights into how nutritional modifications can be integrated into holistic management plans for the disease.

Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a collection of metabolic disorders marked by elevated levels of glucose in the blood due to irregularities in the generation or functioning of insulin. Medical nutrition therapy and weight loss are crucial elements in the management of diabetes and the prevention of complications. Several diets have become popular over time for the goal of achieving weight loss, but their popularity has declined due to a lack of reliable scientific evidence. This study classifies popular diets into three categories: diets that manage the composition of macronutrients, diets that restrict specific foods or food groups, and diets that manipulate meal timing. The review includes research studies that investigated the effects of popular diets on the prevention, management, and complications of diabetes. It is clear that different popular diets can have positive effects on both preventing and treating diabetes and preventing and treating complications related to diabetes. However, it is not practical to determine which diet is the most effective option for preventing or controlling diabetes. Thus, the main focus should be on common underlying factors that support well-being, such as decreasing the intake of refined grains and added sugar, choosing non-starchy vegetables, and giving priority to whole foods over processed foods whenever possible, until there is stronger evidence supporting the specific benefits of different dietary patterns.

Abstract
Huntington's disease (HD), a rare autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disease, causes the gradual deterioration of neurons in the basal ganglia, specifically in the striatum. HD displays a wide range of symptoms, from motor disturbances such as chorea, dystonia, and bradykinesia to more debilitating symptoms such as cognitive decline, behavioral abnormalities, and psychiatric disturbances. Current research suggests the potential use of dietary interventions as viable strategies for slowing the progression of HD. Most notably, the Mediterranean, vegan, carnivore, paleo, and ketogenic diets have gained attention due to their hypothesized impact on neuroprotection and symptomatic modulation in various neurodegenerative disorders. Despite substantial nutritional differences among these diets, they share a fundamental premise-that dietary factors have an influential impact in modifying pertinent biological pathways linked to neurodegeneration. Understanding the intricate interactions between these dietary regimens and HD pathogenesis could open avenues for personalized interventions tailored to the individual's specific needs and genetic background. Ultimately, elucidating the multifaceted effects of these diets on HD offers a promising framework for developing comprehensive therapeutic approaches that integrate dietary strategies with conventional treatments.

Abstract
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal and complex neurodegenerative disease of upper and lower motor neurons of the central nervous system. The pathogenesis of this multifaceted disease is unknown. However, diet has emerged as a modifiable risk factor that has neuroprotective effects towards other neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and dementia. Thus, this review aims to explore how diet can potentially influence ALS onset and/or progression. In this review, five popular diets (Mediterranean, Vegan, Carnivore, Paleolithic and Ketogenic) and their distinct macromolecule composition, nutritional profile, biochemical pathways and their potential therapeutic effects for ALS are thoroughly examined. However, the composition of these diets varies, and the data is controversial, with conflicting studies on the effectiveness of nutrient intake of several of these diets. Although these five diets show that a higher intake of foods containing anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds have a positive correlation towards reducing the oxidative stress of ALS, further research is needed to directly compare the effects of these diets and the mechanisms leading to ALS and its progression.

Abstract
The role of vitamin D in maintaining gum well-being is crucial. However, scientific research reported that the connotations of cholecalciferol and periodontal health have been divested in the present literature. However, there is enormous heterogeneity in the data available. The current review aims to systematically review and appraise the available literature investigating the role of vitamin D in maintaining periodontal health. Studies included randomized controlled trials and clinical trials following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and cohort studies reporting associations between vitamin D and oral health in systemically healthy patients. Databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, Embase, and other sources, including hand search, were searched until May 2023 using together-equipped search sequences. Altogether, scientific articles that conform to the inclusion principles underwent a thorough eminence evaluation. All papers meeting inclusion criteria were subject to quality assessment, and the method used to assess the risk of bias was the Cochrane risk of bias tool. The search identified 1883 papers, among which 1435 were excluded after title evaluation. After abstract and title screening, 455 were excluded, and six full texts were assessed. After full-text evaluation, two articles were excluded, and only four were included. The data shows vitamin D's association with oral health maintenance. Along with its action on bone metabolism, it has extended function, which provides for its action as an anti-inflammatory agent and production of anti-microbial peptides, which help maintain oral health. Although the literature available is immense, there is enormous heterogenicity in the papers conducted to appraise the association between vitamin D and oral health. This systematic review has filtered all the data to review a few essential aspects of the role of vitamin D in maintaining oral physiology. Vitamin D has a linear relationship with periodontal health; however, the evidence is insufficient, and further studies must be done.

Abstract
Vegetarianism in any of its various forms, particularly veganism, has been increasing in popularity over the past few years, especially among the young population in the United States. While several studies have shown that a vegan diet (VD) decreases the risk of cardiometabolic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, veganism has been associated with adverse health outcomes, namely, nervous, skeletal, and immune system impairments, hematological disorders, as well as mental health problems due to the potential for micro and macronutrient deficits. The goal of this review article is to discuss the current literature on the impact and long-term consequences of veganism on vulnerable populations, including children, adolescents, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and fetal outcomes in strict vegan mothers. It also focuses on the many deficiencies of the vegan diet, especially vitamin B12, and the related increased risk of malignancies.
