Abstract
BACKGROUND The Vojta method is utilized for the early detection of abnormal psychomotor development in newborns and infants, particularly those born prematurely. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the Vojta method in enhancing spontaneous motor skills and reducing abnormal responses in prematurely born children. MATERIAL AND METHODS This prospective, open-label controlled study included 200 children divided into 3 groups: extremely premature (≤29 weeks, n=49), very premature (30-33 weeks, n=51), and late preterm (34-37 weeks, n=50) infants. A control group consisted of 50 full-term children undergoing rehabilitation for central nervous system coordination disorders. Diagnoses were conducted using the Vojta method within the first 6 months of life, followed by reexaminations at 3 and 6 months post-diagnosis to assess rehabilitation progress. RESULTS Initial examinations revealed significant differences among groups in several reflex tests, with a higher number of abnormal reactions in infants born before 34 weeks of gestation. Follow-up examinations demonstrated statistically significant improvements in all groups, with the most notable progress observed in children born after 34 weeks. Specifically, the Vojta reflex, traction test, Peiper-Isbert vertical suspension, and Collis' suspension tests all showed significant enhancements post-rehabilitation. CONCLUSIONS The Vojta method is a valuable tool for early diagnosis and intervention to address developmental delays among preterm and full-term infants. Tailoring interventions to individual needs and integrating advanced technologies can optimize its application, enhancing motor function maturation and improving the quality of life for at-risk infants.

Abstract
This review aimed to elucidate the mechanisms through which (i) physical activity (PA) enhances neuroplasticity and cognitive function in neurodegenerative disorders, and (ii) identify specific PA interventions for improving cognitive rehabilitation programs. We conducted a literature search in PubMed, Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, and PsycINFO, covering publications from January 1990 to August 2024. The search strategy employed key terms related to neuroplasticity, physical exercise, cognitive function, neurodegenerative disorders, and personalized physical activity. Inclusion criteria included original research on the relationship between PA and neuroplasticity in neurodegenerative disorders, while exclusion criteria eliminated studies focusing solely on pharmacological interventions. The review identified multiple pathways through which PA may enhance neuroplasticity, including releasing neurotrophic factors, modulation of neuroinflammation, reduction of oxidative stress, and enhancement of synaptic connectivity and neurogenesis. Aerobic exercise was found to increase hippocampal volume by 1-2% and improve executive function scores by 5-10% in older adults. Resistance training enhanced cognitive control and memory performance by 12-18% in elderly individuals. Mind-body exercises, such as yoga and tai-chi, improved gray matter density in memory-related brain regions by 3-5% and enhanced emotional regulation scores by 15-20%. Dual-task training improved attention and processing speed by 8-14% in individuals with neurodegenerative disorders. We also discuss the potential role of AI-based exercise and AI cognitive training in preventing and rehabilitating neurodegenerative illnesses, highlighting innovative approaches to personalized interventions and improved patient outcomes. PA significantly enhances neuroplasticity and cognitive function in neurodegenerative disorders through various mechanisms. Aerobic exercise, resistance training, mind-body practices, and dual-task exercises each offer unique cognitive benefits. Implementing these activities in clinical settings can improve patient outcomes. Future research should focus on creating personalized interventions tailored to specific conditions, incorporating personalized physical exercise programs to optimize cognitive rehabilitation.

Abstract
Epilepsy presents a significant global health challenge, impacting millions worldwide. Alarmingly, over half of individuals living with epilepsy (PWE) also face concurrent medical conditions, with psychiatric complications, particularly depression, standing out as prevalent issues. The relationship between epilepsy and depression is complex and bidirectional, with approximately a quarter of adults with epilepsy receiving a diagnosis of depression. This complexity underscores the challenges in diagnosing depression in epilepsy patients, hindered by overlapping symptoms and distinct manifestations of depression in this population. Our review highlights that the use of most antidepressant pharmacotherapies does not increase the risk of seizure occurrences. On the contrary, compelling evidence suggests that such treatments may even decrease seizure frequency, offering hope for patients. In addition to pharmacology, non-pharmacological interventions are emerging as vital alternatives, enriching the therapeutic landscape. However, despite these promising avenues, a significant gap in our understanding persists, characterized by a lack of comprehensive, prospective research. Our review rigorously explores the latest pathophysiological insights linking depression and epilepsy while critically evaluating contemporary treatment paradigms for individuals grappling with these comorbid conditions. By focusing on the most current developments, this review aims to equip clinicians with cutting-edge knowledge, fostering a more nuanced and effective approach to managing the intricate interplay between epilepsy and comorbid depression.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Observation, execution, and imitation of target actions based on mirror neuron network (MNN) have become common physiotherapy strategies. Electrical stimulation (ES) is a common intervention to improve muscle strength and motor control in rehabilitation treatments. It is possible to enhance MNN's activation by combining motor execution (ME) and motor imitation (MI) with ES simultaneously. This study aims to reveal whether ES could impact cortical activation during ME and MI. METHODS We recruited healthy individuals and assigned them randomly to the control group (CG) or experiment group (EG). Participants in EG performed ME and MI tasks with ES, while participants in CG performed the same two tasks with sham ES. We utilized functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to detect brain activation of MNN during ME and MI with and without ES, a randomized block design experiment paradigm was designed. Descriptive analysis of oxy-hemoglobin (HbO) and deoxy-hemoglobin (HbR) were used to show the hemoglobin (Hb) concentration changes after different event onsets in both CG and EG, a linear mixed-effects model (LMM) of HbO data was employed to analyze the effect of ES on the activation of MNN. RESULTS A total of 102 healthy adults were recruited and 72 participants' data were analysed in the final report. The block averaged Hb data showed that HbO concentration increased and HbR concentration decreased in most MNN regions during ME and MI in both groups. The LMM results showed that ES can significantly improve the activation of inferior frontal gyrus, middle frontal gyrus, and precentral gyrus during MI, the supplementary motor area, inferior parietal lobule, and superior temporal gyri showed increased activation, but without statistical significance. Although the results did not reach statistical significance during ME, ES still showed positive effects on increased overall activations. CONCLUSIONS In this study, we present potential novel rehabilitation approaches that combines MNN strategies and low-frequency ES to enhance cortical activation. Our results revealed that ES has potential to increase activation of most MNN brain areas, providing evidence for related rehabilitative interventions and device development. Abstract
Background/Objectives: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neurological condition that impairs motor and sensory functions, particularly gait. Non-invasive neuromodulation techniques aim to enhance functional recovery and motor-cognitive outcomes, though their effectiveness remains debated. This study compared the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and trans-spinal direct current stimulation (tsDCS), combined with robotic-assisted gait training (RAGT), on motor function and fatigue in people with MS (pwMS). Methods: This double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled clinical trial included 35 pwMS, who participated in 12 sessions of 20 min anodal tDCS (n = 11), cathodal tsDCS (n = 12), or sham treatment (n = 12), in addition to RAGT. Primary outcomes were assessed using the Timed 25-foot Walk (T25-FW), Timed Up and Go (TUG), walking speed, and Multiple Sclerosis Walking Scale-12 (MSWS-12). Fatigue was assessed with the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) and the Fatigue Impact Scale (FIS). ClinicalTrials number: NCT06121635. Results: Significant improvements in gait speed, T25-FW, MSWS-12, TUG scores, and fatigue (FSS) favored tDCS and tsDCS over sham stimulation. While no differences were found between tDCS and tsDCS, the tsDCS group showed a significant improvement in the FIS physical subscale compared to sham, unlike the tDCS group. Conclusions: tDCS and tsDCS, combined with RAGT, improve walking and reduce fatigue in pwMS, highlighting their potential in motor rehabilitation.

Abstract
Background/Objectives: This systematic review of neuropsychological rehabilitation strategies for primary progressive aphasia will consider recent developments in cognitive neuroscience, especially neuroimaging techniques such as EEG and fMRI, to outline how these tools might be integrated into clinical practice to maximize treatment outcomes. Methods: A systematic search of peer-reviewed literature from the last decade was performed following the PRISMA guidelines across multiple databases. A total of 63 studies were included, guided by predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, with a focus on cognitive and language rehabilitation in PPA, interventions guided by neuroimaging, and mechanisms of neuroplasticity. Results: Integration of neuroimaging techniques contributes to the increase in the efficacy of interventions with critical information about the neural mechanisms underlying language deficits in the aphasias. Traditional rehabilitation strategies, technology-assisted interventions, and non-invasive brain stimulation techniques hold considerable promise for language improvement. Neuroimaging was also found to be necessary in subtype-specific differentiation toward tailoring therapeutic intervention. Evidence also shows that directed and sustained interventions using neuroplasticity can have long-term effects in managing the symptoms of PPA. Conclusions: The present review underlines the necessity of including cognitive neuroscience techniques within neuropsychological rehabilitation to enhance therapeutic outcomes in PPA. In addition, neuroimaging modalities such as EEG and fMRI are also of great importance in understanding the underlying neurobiology of language disturbances and guiding tailored interventions. Long-term benefits of these approaches should be evaluated, including their applicability in routine clinical practice.

Abstract
Severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) poses significant public health challenges, but treatments like neurofeedback and hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) show promise in aiding recovery. Neurofeedback enhances brain healing through operant conditioning, while HBOT increases cerebral oxygenation, supporting cognitive recovery. A 33-year-old woman, after suffering a severe TBI in 2018 and a long rehabilitation, began HBOT and neurofeedback in late 2021. By early 2022, she demonstrated significant cognitive, emotional, and social improvements. After numerous sessions, a June 2024 quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) revealed substantial brain recovery, with marked gains (Peterson et al.'s initial study) in daily functioning and specific tasks. This secondary analysis conducted in November 2024 used principal component analysis (PCA) on the initial pretest, posttest, and difference score data from the treatment period to explore the neurophysiological effects of the combined therapies. The results showed notable factor structure differences in brainwave patterns and electrode activity from the pretest to the posttest. The simpler structure observed in pretests evolved into a more complex factor structure with posttest and difference scores, indicating neurophysiological adaptations due to the interventions. This study's PCA findings align with the post-treatment qEEG statistical results conducted in June 2024 (Peterson et al.'s initial study), which identified moderate to large improvement effect sizes in the patient's brain's average frequency band parameters (g = 0.612) and small to moderate effect sizes on 19 electrode placement outcomes (uV² g = 0.339 and Hz g = 0.333). The June 2024 results indicated significant progress over a 31-month treatment period. In June 2024, the Disability Rating Scale (DRS) and the Glasgow Outcome Scale Extended (GOSE) showed substantial improvements in cognitive abilities such as feeding, toileting, grooming, and communication skills. According to the qEEG effect sizes, as well as DRS and GOSE scores from the pretest (2021) and posttest (2024), the patient demonstrated meaningful gains in brain recovery and overall quality of life. The cognitive improvements identified in the June 2024 Wilcoxon test were further corroborated by the factor structure analysis conducted in the November 2024 PCA. This alignment between the Wilcoxon test results and the PCA findings underscores the robustness of the observed cognitive gains, providing a comprehensive validation of the patient's progress. The consistency across these distinct analytical methods highlights the significant strides made in cognitive function, reinforcing the efficacy of the treatment regimen over the observed period.

Abstract
Background This study will present the burden of diseases needing neurorehabilitation in Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries and describe their epidemiology across age and sex groups. Materials and methods This study was conducted based on the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021 findings. The authors used years of healthy life lost due to disability (YLD) as a proxy for the need for neurorehabilitation, and extracted the YLD rates and counts for neonatal encephalopathy due to birth asphyxia and trauma, stroke, neural tube defects, Parkinson's disease (PD), motor neuron disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), tension-type headache, other neurological disorders (except migraine, dementia, and epilepsy), head injuries, spinal injuries, nerve injury, and asphyxiation across age groups, sexes, and MENA countries. Results YLD rates of disorders needing neurorehabilitation in 1990 and 2021 were 408.08 and 496.19 per 100 000 people, respectively, indicating a 21.59% rise in YLD. Stroke had the highest YLD rates in both 1990 (150.19 per 100 000) and 2021 (192.75 per 100 000). Syria, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates had the highest YLD rates for conditions needing neurorehabilitation. Conclusions Considering the growing demand for neurorehabilitation with the aging of populations and the historical shortage of rehabilitation services in the region, the gap between the demand and supply may further increase in the coming years, leading to consequences for people living with neurological conditions in the region.

Abstract
Background Athletic performance can be measured with a variety of clinical and functional assessment techniques. There is a need to better understand the relationship between the brain's electrical activity and the body's physiological performance capabilities in real-time while performing physical tasks related to sport. Orthopedic functional assessments used to monitor the neuroplastic properties of the central nervous system lack objectivity and/or pertinent functionality specific to sport. The ability to assess brain wave activity with physiological metrics during functional exercises associated with sport has proven to be difficult and impractical in real-time sport settings. Quantitative electroencephalography or qEEG brain mapping is a unique, real-time comprehensive assessment of brain electrical activity performed in combination with physiometrics which offers insight to neurophysiological brain-to-body function. Brain neuroplasticity has been associated with differences in musculoskeletal performance among athletes, however comparative real-time normal data to benchmark performance capabilities is limited. Purpose/Design This prospective, descriptive case series evaluated performance of task-driven activities using an innovative neurophysiological assessment technique of qEEG monitored neurophysiological responses to establish a comparative benchmark of performance capabilities in healthy, uninjured Division-I athletes. Methods Twenty-eight healthy uninjured females (n=11) and males (n=17) NCAA Division-I athletes participated in real-time neurophysiological assessment using a Bluetooth, wireless 21-channel dry EEG headset while performing functional activities. Results Uninjured athletes experienced standard and regulated fluctuations of brain wave activity in key performance indicators of attention, workload capacity and sensorimotor rhythm (SMR) asymmetries. Conclusion qEEG neurophysiological real-time assessment concurrent with functional activities in uninjured, Division-I athletes may provide a performance capability benchmark. Real-time neurophysiological data can be used to monitor athletes' preparedness to participate in sport, rehabilitation progressions, assist in development of injury prevention programs, and return to play decisions. While this paper focuses on healthy, uninjured participants, results underscore the need to discen pre-injury benchmarks. Level of Evidence 4.

Abstract
PURPOSE This meta-analysis aimed to quantify the effect of serious games over conventional therapy on upper-limb activity, balance, gait, fatigue, and cognitive functions in people with multiple sclerosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Search strategies were developed for PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Scopus. Studies were selected if participants were adults with multiple sclerosis; the intervention consisted of a virtual reality serious game-based program; the control group received conventional therapy; outcomes included upper limb activity, balance, gait, fatigue, or cognitive functions; and used a randomized controlled trial design. Data were synthesized using a standardized mean difference with a random-effects model. RESULTS From 2532 studies, seventeen trials were selected (n = 740). Overall, serious games programs effect on upper limb activity, gait, verbal memory, verbal fluency and attention seemed neutral. Balance functions appeared to be improved by semi-immersive virtual reality serious games (SMD = 0.48;95%CI = 0.12-0.84;p = 0.01;I2=0%), fatigue by treadmill serious games (SMD = 0.80;95%CI = 0.40-1.20;p < 0.001) and visuo-spatial memory by semi-immersive virtual reality general cognitive serious games (SMD = 0.35;95%CI = 0.04-0.65;p = 0.03;I2=0%). CONCLUSION This review suggests, with a very-low-to-low certainty of evidence, that while some specific serious games may improve balance, fatigue and visuo-spatial memory, their overall effect on upper limb activity, gait, and other cognitive functions appears neutral.

Abstract
As a multilevel and multidisciplinary field, neuroscience is designed to interact with various branches of natural and applied sciences as well as with humanities and philosophy. The continental tradition in philosophy, particularly over the past 20 years, tended to establish strong connections with biology and neuroscience findings. This cross fertilization can however be impeded by conceptual intricacies, such as those surrounding the concept of plasticity. The use of this concept has broadened as scientists applied it to explore an ever-growing range of biological phenomena. Here, we examine the consequences of this ambiguity in an interdisciplinary context through the analysis of the concept of "destructive plasticity" in the philosophical writings of Catherine Malabou. The term "destructive plasticity" was coined by Malabou in 2009 to refer to all processes leading to psycho-cognitive and emotional alterations following traumatic or nontraumatic brain injuries or resulting from neurodevelopmental disorders. By comparing it with the neuroscientific definitions of plasticity, we discuss the epistemological obstacles and possibilities related to the integration of this concept into neuroscience. Improving interdisciplinary exchanges requires an advanced and sophisticated manipulation of neurobiological concepts. These concepts are not only intended to guide research programmes within neuroscience but also to organize and frame the dialogue between different theoretical backgrounds.

Abstract
Objective Health can be described as the state of homeostasis and optimal functioning across various bio-psycho-social dimensions and processes, allowing an individual to adapt and respond effectively to extrinsic and intrinsic challenges. Our thoughts, choices, behaviors, experiences, and feelings shape our existence. By transitioning from unconscious reactions to conscious responses, we can establish novel habits and behaviors, actively embracing positive shifts in our lifestyle. Subjects and methods The presented examination focuses on the smartwatch (SW), analyzing the incorporation of potentially progressive attributes that could enrich our lifestyle pursuits. The objective is not the health disorders themselves but the employment of wearable devices to create a strong sense of coherence in the Straussian grounded theory approach. The study had no subjects. Results The potential of the SW has been partially explored in lifestyle intervention, modification, research, and practice. Conclusion Based on our examination, creating an innovative SW capable of aiding individuals in better comprehending their behaviors and motivating them toward comprehensive changes in their lifestyle is a challenging yet attainable endeavor. Our ambition is to bring into existence SW capable of comprehensively measuring and evaluating interoception, circadian rhythm (CR), selected lifestyle pillars, and their associated components, and seamlessly integrating them into current SW features. It focuses on boosting motivation, maintenance, and amelioration regarding one's lifestyle. The novel approach strives to boost both immediate and underlying factors that actively contribute to improving one's metacognition.

Abstract
The chapter provides an in-depth analysis of digital therapeutics (DTx) as a revolutionary approach to managing major depressive disorder (MDD). It discusses the evolution and definition of DTx, their application across various medical fields, regulatory considerations, and their benefits and limitations. This chapter extensively covers DTx for MDD, including smartphone applications, virtual reality interventions, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) platforms, artificial intelligence (AI) and chatbot therapies, biofeedback, wearable technologies, and serious games. It evaluates the effectiveness of these digital interventions, comparing them with traditional treatments and examining patient perspectives, compliance, and engagement. The integration of DTx into clinical practice is also explored, along with the challenges and barriers to their adoption, such as technological limitations, data privacy concerns, ethical considerations, reimbursement issues, and the need for improved digital literacy. This chapter concludes by looking at the future direction of DTx in mental healthcare, emphasizing the need for personalized treatment plans, integration with emerging modalities, and the expansion of access to these innovative solutions globally.

The article examines the complex pathophysiology of neurological problems caused by bacterial infections. It presents current cases that illustrate the various ways these complications might manifest and the difficulties faced in their therapeutic management. Parasitic and fungal infections, which are typically overlooked, are being carefully examined to emphasize their distinct role in causing neurological complications. The mentioned cases highlight the importance of being thoroughly aware of these less-explored areas ranging from protozoan parasites to opportunistic fungal infections. In addition to the immediate effects caused by infectious agents, the review investigates autoimmune responses activated by infections. The global incidence of renal disorders is on the rise, demanding the implementation of novel and comprehensive strategies for patient care. The present study demonstrates the significance of renal health, offering a comprehensive comprehension of renal physiology and the escalating load of renal illnesses. The relevance of controlling renal illnesses is underscored by a thorough examination of conventional treatments, which encompass pharmaceutical interventions, dialysis, and transplantation. Subsequently, the story redirects its attention towards complementary therapies, classifying them into several categories, such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, dietary supplements, and mind-body activities, among various others. This paper presents a comprehensive examination of the available information, providing a critical study of the effectiveness and safety of alternative therapies in renal care. This study focuses on the central idea of integrative medicine, distinguished by its patient-centered and holistic approach and its seamless integration of conventional and complementary therapies. This study examines several integrative care models, using case studies to illustrate successful integrative approaches that have enhanced patient outcomes. The review thoroughly examines the current body of literature on integrative renal care, including meta-analyses, systematic reviews, and notable research discoveries. This study highlights the need for further research to address knowledge gaps and explore areas that require additional examination. These findings emphasize the importance of future research endeavors in this crucial sector. In addition, the paper thoroughly examines the safety issues and regulatory factors pertaining to complementary therapies, underscoring the importance of making educated decisions and maintaining diligent monitoring to safeguard patients' well-being. Integrating patient perspectives, experiences, and shared decision-making is essential to the integrated healthcare process, promoting a collaborative and patient-centered approach. The study culminates by providing a concise overview of the primary discoveries and delineating the ramifications of implementing therapeutic procedures. This statement underscores the considerable potential of integrative medicine in augmenting renal care, ultimately leading to enhanced patient outcomes and an improved overall quality of life for persons with renal diseases. Also, this literature review provides a thorough and knowledgeable examination of the incorporation of conventional and complementary therapies in the context of renal health. It gives valuable perspectives for healthcare practitioners, researchers, and policymakers interested in enhancing care strategies for individuals with renal conditions.
