Abstract
OBJECTIVE This umbrella review aims to ascertain the extent to which immersive Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies improve specific competencies in healthcare professionals within medical education and training, in contrast to traditional educational methods or no intervention. METHODS Adhering to PRISMA guidelines and the PICOS approach, a systematic literature search was conducted across major databases to identify studies examining the use of VR and AR in medical education. Eligible studies were screened and categorized based on the PICOS criteria. Descriptive statistics and chi-square tests were employed to analyze the data, supplemented by the Fisher test for small sample sizes or specific conditions. ANALYSIS The analysis involved cross-tabulating the stages of work (Development and Testing, Results, Evaluated) and variables of interest (Performance, Engagement, Performance and Engagement, Effectiveness, no evaluated) against the types of technologies used. Chi-square tests assessed the associations between these categorical variables. RESULTS A total of 28 studies were included, with the majority reporting increased or positive effects from the use of immersive technologies. VR was the most frequently studied technology, particularly in the "Performance" and "Results" stages. The chi-square analysis, with a Pearson value close to significance (p = 0.052), suggested a non-significant trend toward the association of VR with improved outcomes. CONCLUSIONS The results indicate that VR is a prevalent tool in the research landscape of medical education technologies, with a positive trend toward enhancing educational outcomes. However, the statistical analysis did not reveal a significant association, suggesting the need for further research with larger sample sizes. This review underscores the potential of immersive technologies to enhance medical training yet calls for more rigorous studies to establish definitive evidence of their efficacy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With the increasing complexity and decreasing exposure to intracranial aneurysm surgery, training and maintenance of the surgical skills have become challenging. This review elaborated on simulation training for intracranial aneurysm clipping. METHODS A systematic review was performed according to the PRISMA guidelines to identify studies on aneurysm clipping training using models and simulators. The primary outcome was the identification of the predominant modes of the simulation process, models, and training methods associated with a microsurgical learning curve. The secondary outcomes included assessments of the validation of such simulators and the learning capability from the use of such simulators. RESULTS Of the 2068 articles screened, 26 studies met the inclusion criteria. The chosen reports used a wide range of simulation approaches including ex vivo methods (n = 6); virtual reality (VR) platforms (n = 11); and static (n = 6) and dynamic (n = 3) 3D-printed aneurysm models (n = 6). The ex vivo training methods have limited availability, VR simulators lack haptics and tactility, while 3D static models lack important microanatomical components and the simulation of blood flow. 3D dynamic models including pulsatile flow are reusable and cost-effective but miss microanatomical components. CONCLUSIONS The existing training methods are heterogenous and do not realistically simulate the complete microsurgical workflow. The current simulations lack certain anatomical features and crucial surgical steps. Future research should focus on developing and validating a reusable, cost-effective training platform. No systematic validation method exists for the different training models, so there is a need to build homogenous assessment tools and validate the role of simulation in education and patient safety.

Abstract
Objective The aim of this study was to describe artificial intelligence, machine learning, and "Dentronics" applications and perspectives in dentistry. Materials and Methods A literature review was carried out to identify the applications of artificial intelligence in the field of dentistry. A specialized search for information was carried out in three databases such as Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science. Manuscripts published from January 1988 to November 2021 were analyzed. Articles were included without any restriction by language or country. Results Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science were found to have 215, 1023, and 98 registered manuscripts, respectively. Duplicates (191 manuscripts) were eliminated. Finally, 4 letters, 12 editorials, 5 books, 1 erratum, 54 conference papers, 3 conference reviews, and 222 reviews were excluded. Conclusions Artificial intelligence has revolutionized prediction, diagnosis, and therapeutic management in modern dentistry. Finally, artificial intelligence is a potential complement to managing future data in this area.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neurosurgical training has been traditionally based on an apprenticeship model. However, restrictions on clinical exposure reduce trainees' operative experience. Simulation models may allow for a more efficient, feasible, and time-effective acquisition of skills. Our objectives were to use face, content, and construct validity to review the use of simulation models in neurosurgical education. METHODS PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus were queried for eligible studies. After excluding duplicates, 1204 studies were screened. Eighteen studies were included in the final review. RESULTS Neurosurgical skills assessed included aneurysm clipping (n = 6), craniotomy and burr hole drilling (n = 2), tumour resection (n = 4), and vessel suturing (n = 3). All studies assessed face validity, 11 assessed content, and 6 assessed construct validity. Animal models (n = 5), synthetic models (n = 7), and VR models (n = 6) were assessed. In face validation, all studies rated visual realism favourably, but haptic realism was key limitation. The synthetic models ranked a high median tactile realism (4 out of 5) compared to other models. Assessment of content validity showed positive findings for anatomical and procedural education, but the models provided more benefit to the novice than the experienced group. The cadaver models were perceived to be the most anatomically realistic by study participants. Construct validity showed a statistically significant proficiency increase among the junior group compared to the senior group across all modalities. CONCLUSION Our review highlights evidence on the feasibility of implementing simulation models in neurosurgical training. Studies should include predictive validity to assess future skill on an individual on whom the same procedure will be administered. This study shows that future neurosurgical training systems call for surgical simulation and objectively validated models.

Abstract
Diagnostics of a hand requires measurements of kinematics and joint limits. The standard tools for this purpose are manual devices such as goniometers which allow measuring only one joint simultaneously, making the diagnostics time-consuming. The paper presents a system for automatic measurement and computer presentation of essential parameters of a hand. Constructed software uses an integrated vision system, a haptic device for measurement, and has a web-based user interface. The system provides a simplified way to obtain hand parameters, such as hand size, wrist, and finger range of motions, using the homogeneous-matrix-based notation. The haptic device allows for active measurement of the wrist's range of motion and additional force measurement. A study was conducted to determine the accuracy and repeatability of measurements compared to the gold standard. The system functionality was confirmed on five healthy participants, with results showing comparable results to manual measurements regarding fingers' lengths. The study showed that the finger's basic kinematic structure could be measured by a vision system with a mean difference to caliper measurement of 4.5 mm and repeatability with the Standard Deviations up to 0.7 mm. Joint angle limits measurement achieved poorer results with a mean difference to goniometer of 23.6º. Force measurements taken by the haptic device showed the repeatability with a Standard Deviation of 0.7 N. The presented system allows for a unified measurement and a collection of important parameters of a human hand with therapist interface visualization and control with potential use for post-stroke patients' precise rehabilitation.

Abstract
Highly competent clinical practice requires cognitive, psychomotor and affective skills. Therefore, the ultimate goal of dental education is for practitioners to be competent in all of these domains. While many methods have been introduced to assess knowledge and non-technical skills, it is still very difficult for educators to assess technical skill. Assessment methods for technical skills are still not well established because it is very difficult to assure objectivity, validity and fairness. Nonetheless, technical skill is especially important in dental treatments, along with knowledge and attitude. The aim of this review was to summarize the methods of technical skill training in dental education and how they are assessed. This is a literature review. We searched PubMed MEDLINE using terms related to technical skill training and those assessment as of June 2020 and reviewed them. There have been many reports introducing methods of technical skill training and assessment, including the use of digital technology. However, no single assessment method had demonstrated validity of it. Technical skill training is very important in dental education and there are various ways of learning. The validity of current assessment methods is limited; therefore, a combination of several methods may achieve the best results.

Abstract
From the introduction of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) in the 1990s, to performing major lung resections using a uniportal VATS approach, technology has paved the way for the development of minimally invasive thoracic surgery. Natural orifice access to achieve a 'no port' approach, is also on the rise, with advancements in bronchoscopic techniques for diagnosis and therapy, as well as development of soft robotics to achieve desired flexibility, dexterity and stability in future platforms, which may involve in vivo deployment to bring the surgeon totally inside the body. Development of haptic feedback in robotic platforms to enhance the surgical experience is also a major goal, with vibrotactile and mechanical feedback generation, to replicate the traditional touch. In addition, the aid of technology in the form of procedural guidance mechanisms, like augmented reality, will further improve the safety and accuracy of future operations.

Abstract
PURPOSE Glenoid reaming is a technically challenging step during shoulder arthroplasty that could possibly be learned during simulation training. Creation of a realistic simulation using vibration feedback in this context is innovative. Our study focused on the development and internal validation of a novel glenoid reaming simulator for potential use as a training tool. METHODS Vibration and force profiles associated with glenoid reaming were quantified during a cadaveric experiment. Subsequently, a simulator was fabricated utilizing a haptic vibration transducer with high- and low-fidelity amplifiers; system calibration was performed matching vibration peak-peak values for both amplifiers. Eight experts performed simulated reaming trials. The experts were asked to identify isolated layer profiles produced by the simulator. Additionally, experts' efficiency to successfully perform a simulated glenoid ream based solely on vibration feedback was recorded. RESULTS Cadaveric experimental cartilage reaming produced lower vibrations compared to subchondral and cancellous bones ([Formula: see text]). Gain calibration of a lower-fidelity (3.5 [Formula: see text] and higher-fidelity (3.4 [Formula: see text] amplifier resulted in values similar to the cadaveric experimental benchmark (3.5 [Formula: see text]. When identifying random tissue layer samples, experts were correct [Formula: see text] of the time and success rate varied with tissue type ([Formula: see text]). During simulated reaming, the experts stopped at the targeted subchondral bone with a success rate of [Formula: see text]. The fidelity of the simulation did not have an effect on accuracy, applied force, or reaming time ([Formula: see text]). However, the applied force tended to increase with trial number ([Formula: see text]). CONCLUSIONS Development of the glenoid reaming simulator, coupled with expert evaluation furthered our understanding of the role of haptic vibration feedback during glenoid reaming. This study was the first to (1) propose, develop and examine simulated glenoid reaming, and (2) explore the use of haptic vibration feedback in the realm of shoulder arthroplasty.

Abstract
Virtual reality is a computer based technology linked with the future of dentistry and dental practice. The virtual articulator is one such application in prosthetic and restorative dentistry based on virtual reality that will significantly reduce the limitations of the mechanical articulator, and by simulation of real patient data, allow analyses with regard to static and dynamic occlusion as well as to jaw relation. It is the purpose of this article to present the concepts and strategies for a future replacement of the mechanical articulator by a virtual one. Also, a brief note on virtual reality haptic system has been highlighted along with newly developed touch enabled virtual articulator.
