Sonographic appearance of angiomyofibroblastoma-like tumor of the scrotum

A variety of extratesticular tumors and tumor-like conditions can occur in the scrotum. Angiomyofibroblastoma is a rare, slow-growing, well-circumscribed mesenchymal tumor, found predominantly in women, and is even a more unusual occurrence in the male genital tract. We describe a case of a 64-year-old male presenting with a scrotal painless mass. On sonography, a well-circumscribed extratesticular mass was present. As no specific imaging findings were present, it was a surprise to learn that the subsequently excised mass proved to be an angiomyofibroblastoma-like tumor. To the best of our knowledge, the sonographic appearance of this tumor in the scrotum has been reported previously in only one case.

Angiomyofibroblastoma of the Foot: a Rare Soft Tissue Tumor at Unusual Site

Angiomyofibroblastoma is a rare benign soft tissue tumor that arises predominantly in the female genital tract. It occurs less commonly in the scrotum, spermatic cord, and the retroperitoneum. Its diagnosis is based on specific histological and immunopathological features. However, the condition has never been previously described in the extremities. We present the first case report of angiomyofibroblastoma presenting as a slow-growing tumor in the foot of a 48-year-old lady.

Paratesticular Angiomyofibroblastoma-Like Tumor: Unusual Case of a Solidocystic Form

The angiomyofibroblastoma-like tumor of the male genital tract is a rare benign tumor. A total of 34 cases have been reported in the literature. We herein report an exceptional case of solidocystic form in its paratesticular location, in a 79-year-old man. Clinical examination objectified a right testicular induration. Macroscopic examination of the orchidectomy objectified a paratesticular solidocystic tumor formation. Microscopically, the solid area was composed of vessels with small caliber and turgidity of endothelial cells. These vessels were surrounded by clusters of epithelioid cells, sometimes having the appearance of giant cells. They were associated with spindle cells. The cystic area was uncoated. Immunohistochemically, the fusiform cells expressed Desmin and Smooth Muscle Actin. Endothelial cells and clusters of cells surrounding large vessels expressed CD34. The expression of receptors for estrogen and progesterone was negative. To our knowledge, this is the second solidocystic case of angiomyofibroblastoma-like tumor of male genital tract.

Angiomyofibroblastoma-like tumor of the scrotum: A case report and literature review

The purpose of the present study was to increase the knowledge of angiomyofibroblastoma (AMF)-like tumors in males by describing the second case of this rare lesion in the Chinese population with a long period of follow-up and by reviewing the literature. AMF-like tumor is a rare, circumscribed, slow-growing mesenchymal tumor that occurs predominantly in the vulva, perineum and pelvis of females. The present report presents a case of left scrotal AMF-like tumor in a 37-year-old male. Complete surgical excision was performed. The tumor was composed of spindle-shaped cells and small vessels proliferating in the edematous stroma. Immunohistologically, the tumor cells stained positive for smooth muscle actin and negative for S-100, CD34 and actin. Following seven years of follow-up the patient was asymptomatic and no evidence of tumor was found. In addition, the current literature was reviewed and the characteristics of this tumor were summarized. AMF-like tumors must also be distinguished from spindle cell lipoma, solitary fibrous tumor and aggressive angiomyxoma.
