Implementation of the International Classification of Diseases 11th revision behavioural indicators for disorders of intellectual development with co-occurring autism spectrum disorder

BACKGROUND

The classification of mental, behavioural and neurodevelopmental disorders in the World Health Organization's International Classification of Diseases 11th revision (ICD-11) includes a comprehensive set of behavioural indicators (BIs) within the neurodevelopmental disorders grouping. BIs can be used to assess the severity of disorders of intellectual development in situations in which standardised measures of intellectual functioning and adaptive behaviours are not available or feasible. This international study examines the implementation characteristics of the BIs and compares them to standardised measures for assessing the severity of intellectual impairment and adaptive behaviours in disorders of intellectual development and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The clinical utility of the ICD-11 and the fidelity of its application in international clinical settings were also assessed.

METHODS

A total of 116 children and adolescents (5-18 years old) with a suspected or established diagnosis of disorders of intellectual development were included across four sites [Italy (n = 18), Sri Lanka (n = 19) and two sites in India (n = 79)]. A principal component analysis was conducted to evaluate the application of the ICD-11 guidance for combining severity levels.

RESULTS

Assessment using the BIs showed a higher proportion of individuals classified with mild severity, whereas the standardised measures indicated a higher proportion of severe ratings. Additionally, individuals with co-occurring ASD tended to have more severe impairments compared with those without ASD, as indicated by both BIs and standardised measures. Overall, the BIs were considered clinically useful, although more time and consideration were required when applying the guidelines for individuals with a co-occurring disorder of intellectual development and ASD. The principal component analysis revealed one principal component representing overall disorders of intellectual development severity levels.

CONCLUSIONS

The ICD-11 BIs can be implemented as intended in international clinical settings for a broad range of presentations of individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders. Use of the BIs results in similar severity diagnoses to those made using standardised measures. The BIs are expected to improve the reliability of severity assessments in settings where appropriate standardised measures for intellectual and adaptive behaviours are not available or feasible.

Dosing Optimization of Low-Sodium Oxybate in Narcolepsy and Idiopathic Hypersomnia in Adults: Consensus Recommendations

INTRODUCTION

Low-sodium oxybate (LXB) is approved for treatment of narcolepsy in patients aged 7 years and older and treatment of idiopathic hypersomnia in adults. LXB contains the same active moiety with 92% less sodium than sodium oxybate (SXB). As the indication for oxybate treatment in patients with idiopathic hypersomnia is new and allows for individualized dosing optimization, guidance for beginning LXB treatment is needed. In particular, clinicians may benefit from guidance regarding treatment initiation, dosing/regimen options, potential challenges, and treatment expectations. Additionally, pharmacokinetic profiles differ slightly between both treatments, and further guidance on transitioning from SXB to LXB in patients with narcolepsy may aid clinicians.

METHODS

An expert panel of five sleep specialists was convened to obtain consensus on recommendations for these topics using a modified Delphi process.

RESULTS

Across two virtual meetings, the panel agreed on 31 recommendations with a high degree of consensus that fell into four overarching topics: (1) introducing LXB to patients; (2) initiating LXB for adult narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia; (3) addressing challenges in using LXB; and (4) transitioning from SXB to LXB. The panel recommended that clinicians provide a clear overview of how LXB works for treating symptoms in narcolepsy or idiopathic hypersomnia, as appropriate for their patients, explain safety aspects, and set expectations prior to initiating LXB treatment. Strategies for initial dosing and regimen are provided. Strategies for adjusting the dose, regimen, timing, and consideration of individual factors were developed for specific instances in which patients may have trouble staying asleep or waking up, as well as guidance for addressing potential adverse events, such as nausea, dizziness, anxiety, and depression. Discussion points based on existing literature and clinical experience were included as relevant for each statement.

CONCLUSION

Clinicians may use this resource to guide LXB dosing optimization with patients.

Effectiveness and optimization of low-sodium oxybate in participants with narcolepsy switching from a high-sodium oxybate: data from the SEGUE study

STUDY OBJECTIVES

Low-sodium oxybate (LXB; calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium oxybates; Xywav) contains the same active moiety as high-sodium oxybates (sodium oxybate [SXB; Xyrem] and fixed-dose sodium oxybate [Lumryz]), with 92% less sodium, and is approved in the US for treatment of cataplexy or excessive daytime sleepiness in patients 7 years of age and older with narcolepsy, and idiopathic hypersomnia in adults. Patients with narcolepsy have increased cardiovascular risk relative to people without narcolepsy. LXB's lower sodium content is recognized by the US FDA in the narcolepsy population as clinically meaningful in reducing cardiovascular morbidity compared with high-sodium oxybates. The Substitution of Equal Grams of Uninterrupted Xyrem to Xywav (SEGUE) study (NCT04794491) examined the transition experience of patients with narcolepsy switching from SXB to LXB.

METHODS

Eligible participants were aged 18 to 80 years with narcolepsy type 1 or 2 on a stable SXB dose/regimen. After 2 weeks, participants transitioned gram-per-gram to LXB for 6 weeks, with opportunity for subsequent titration. Assessments included the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Patient Global Impression of Change (PGIc), ease of switching medication scale (EOSMS), and forced preference questionnaire (FPQ).

RESULTS

The study enrolled 62 participants at baseline; 60 transitioned to LXB and 54 completed the study. At baseline and end of the LXB intervention/early discontinuation, respectively, mean total doses were 8.0 and 8.0 g/night; mean ESS scores were 9.4 and 8.8. Most participants reported improvement (45%) or no change (48%) in narcolepsy symptoms on the PGIc, reported the transition to LXB was "easy" (easy, extremely easy, not difficult at all; 93%) on the EOSMS, and preferred LXB compared with SXB (79%) on the FPQ, most commonly due to the lower sodium content.

CONCLUSIONS

Most participants switched from SXB to LXB with minimal modifications of dose/regimen and reported the transition process was easy. Effectiveness of oxybate treatment was maintained on LXB, and most participants preferred LXB to SXB. No new safety or tolerability issues were identified.

Unraveling the Role of 2D Ti3C2Tx MXene Nanosheets in Cu-Based Double Perovskite Active Layer for Enhanced Photovoltaic Performance

Although the atmospheric stability of lead-free inorganic double perovskite (DP) solar cells (PSCs) looks promising, their further development is hampered by inadequate film quality and non-radiative carrier recombination at the interfaces. Herein, the incorporation of a newly developed intriguing class of 2D material Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets with the photo-absorbing Cu2AgBiI6 (CABI) active layer of a fully inorganic solar cell is reported. The highly conductive Ti3C2Tx nanosheets work as a multi-functional additive by tuning the band gap, reducing the non-radiative carrier recombination, and inhibiting carrier accumulation. In addition, the presence of Ti3C2Tx MXene increases the surface free energy of the perovskite film, which elevates the energy barrier for nucleation and realizes a highly crystalline CABI perovskite film. Primarily, the MXene modification accelerates the charge extraction and transport at the interfaces of the active layer, utilizing energy level alignment with the charge transport layers. Consequently, the photo-conversion efficiency (PCE) of the device with MXene is substantially enhanced to 1.50%. Moreover, the 2D Ti3C2Tx nanosheets increased the long-term stability of the devices by retaining 70% of the initial PCE after 1680 h. With regard to relieving the severe carrier recombination at the interfaces, this work sets a new paradigm toward imminent solar energy conversion.

First Measurement of the |t| Dependence of Incoherent J/ψ Photonuclear Production

The first measurement of the cross section for incoherent photonuclear production of J/ψ vector mesons as a function of the Mandelstam |t| variable is presented. The measurement was carried out with the ALICE detector at midrapidity, |y|<0.8, using ultraperipheral collisions of Pb nuclei at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02  TeV. This rapidity interval corresponds to a Bjorken-x range (0.3-1.4)×10^{-3}. Cross sections are given in five |t| intervals in the range 0.04<|t|<1  GeV^{2} and compared to the predictions by different models. Models that ignore quantum fluctuations of the gluon density in the colliding hadron predict a |t| dependence of the cross section much steeper than in data. The inclusion of such fluctuations in the same models provides a better description of the data.

Study of High-Transverse-Momentum Higgs Boson Production in Association with a Vector Boson in the qqbb Final State with the ATLAS Detector

This Letter presents the first study of Higgs boson production in association with a vector boson (V=W or Z) in the fully hadronic qqbb final state using data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13  TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137  fb^{-1}. The vector bosons and Higgs bosons are each reconstructed as large-radius jets and tagged using jet substructure techniques. Dedicated tagging algorithms exploiting b-tagging properties are used to identify jets consistent with Higgs bosons decaying into bb[over ¯]. Dominant backgrounds from multijet production are determined directly from the data, and a likelihood fit to the jet mass distribution of Higgs boson candidates is used to extract the number of signal events. The VH production cross section is measured inclusively and differentially in several ranges of Higgs boson transverse momentum: 250-450, 450-650, and greater than 650 GeV. The inclusive signal yield relative to the standard model expectation is observed to be μ=1.4_{-0.9}^{+1.0} and the corresponding cross section is 3.1±1.3(stat)_{-1.4}^{+1.8}(syst)  pb.

Measurement of the Centrality Dependence of the Dijet Yield in p+Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=8.16 TeV with the ATLAS Detector

ATLAS measured the centrality dependence of the dijet yield using 165  nb^{-1} of p+Pb data collected at sqrt[s_{NN}]=8.16  TeV in 2016. The event centrality, which reflects the p+Pb impact parameter, is characterized by the total transverse energy registered in the Pb-going side of the forward calorimeter. The central-to-peripheral ratio of the scaled dijet yields, R_{CP}, is evaluated, and the results are presented as a function of variables that reflect the kinematics of the initial hard parton scattering process. The R_{CP} shows a scaling with the Bjorken x of the parton originating from the proton, x_{p}, while no such trend is observed as a function of x_{Pb}. This analysis provides unique input to understanding the role of small proton spatial configurations in p+Pb collisions by covering parton momentum fractions from the valence region down to x_{p}∼10^{-3} and x_{Pb}∼4×10^{-4}.

Search for New Phenomena in Two-Body Invariant Mass Distributions Using Unsupervised Machine Learning for Anomaly Detection at sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the ATLAS Detector

Searches for new resonances are performed using an unsupervised anomaly-detection technique. Events with at least one electron or muon are selected from 140  fb^{-1} of pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13  TeV recorded by ATLAS at the Large Hadron Collider. The approach involves training an autoencoder on data, and subsequently defining anomalous regions based on the reconstruction loss of the decoder. Studies focus on nine invariant mass spectra that contain pairs of objects consisting of one light jet or b jet and either one lepton (e,μ), photon, or second light jet or b jet in the anomalous regions. No significant deviations from the background hypotheses are observed. Limits on contributions from generic Gaussian signals with various widths of the resonance mass are obtained for nine invariant masses in the anomalous regions.

Observation of WZγ Production in pp Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the ATLAS Detector

This Letter reports the observation of WZγ production and a measurement of its cross section using 140.1±1.2  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The WZγ production cross section, with both the W and Z bosons decaying leptonically, pp→WZγ→ℓ^{'}^{±}νℓ^{+}ℓ^{-}γ (ℓ^{(^{'})}=e, μ), is measured in a fiducial phase-space region defined such that the leptons and the photon have high transverse momentum and the photon is isolated. The cross section is found to be 2.01±0.30(stat)±0.16(syst)  fb. The corresponding standard model predicted cross section calculated at next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics and at leading order in the electroweak coupling constant is 1.50±0.06  fb. The observed significance of the WZγ signal is 6.3σ, compared with an expected significance of 5.0σ.

Nernst Sign Reversal in the Hexatic Vortex Phase of Weakly Disordered a-MoGe Thin Films

The hexatic phase is an intermediate stage in the melting process of a 2D crystal due to topological defects. Recently, this exotic phase was experimentally identified in the vortex lattice of 2D weakly disordered superconducting MoGe by scanning tunneling microscopic measurements. Here, we study this vortex state by the Nernst effect, which is an effective and sensitive tool to detect vortex motion, especially in the superconducting fluctuation regime. We find a surprising Nernst sign reversal at the melting transition of the hexatic phase. We propose that they are a consequence of vortex dislocations in the hexatic state which diffuse preferably from the cold to hot.

Combined Measurement of the Higgs Boson Mass from the H→γγ and H→ZZ^{*}→4ℓ Decay Channels with the ATLAS Detector Using sqrt[s]=7, 8, and 13 TeV pp Collision Data

A measurement of the mass of the Higgs boson combining the H→ZZ^{*}→4ℓ and H→γγ decay channels is presented. The result is based on 140  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector during LHC run 2 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV combined with the run 1 ATLAS mass measurement, performed at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, yielding a Higgs boson mass of 125.11±0.09(stat)±0.06(syst)=125.11±0.11  GeV. This corresponds to a 0.09% precision achieved on this fundamental parameter of the Standard Model of particle physics.

Search for Dark Photons in Rare Z Boson Decays with the ATLAS Detector

A search for events with a dark photon produced in association with a dark Higgs boson via rare decays of the standard model Z boson is presented, using 139  fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13  TeV proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The dark boson decays into a pair of dark photons, and at least two of the three dark photons must each decay into a pair of electrons or muons, resulting in at least two same-flavor opposite-charge lepton pairs in the final state. The data are found to be consistent with the background prediction, and upper limits are set on the dark photon's coupling to the dark Higgs boson times the kinetic mixing between the standard model photon and the dark photon, α_{D}ϵ^{2}, in the dark photon mass range of [5, 40] GeV except for the ϒ mass window [8.8, 11.1] GeV. This search explores new parameter space not previously excluded by other experiments.

Cost-Effectiveness of Tonic Motor Activation (TOMAC) Therapy for Patients with Restless Legs Syndrome: An Exploratory Analysis

INTRODUCTION

Tonic motor activation (TOMAC) therapy is a novel non-pharmacologic treatment approach for patients suffering from medication-refractory restless legs syndrome (RLS). The objective of this study was to explore the potential cost-effectiveness of TOMAC in the US healthcare system.

METHODS

A decision-analytic Markov model was constructed to project strategy-specific treatment costs and benefits over 3 years and lifetime. Cohort characteristics (mean age 57.4 years, 39.8% male) and treatment effects were derived from the sham-controlled RESTFUL study. Study-observed International RLS Study Group (IRLS) scores were used to estimate changes in healthcare resource utilization and quality of life based on mapping algorithms informed by published data. The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) was evaluated against established willingness-to-pay thresholds of $50,000/$150,000 per QALY to determine cost-effectiveness. Extensive scenario analyses were performed, including longer-term extension study data.

RESULTS

 TOMAC and sham reduced IRLS scores from baseline 25.3 to 18.10 and 21.60, respectively, at 4 weeks (treatment effect - 3.4 vs. sham), with an increase in utility from 0.80 to 0.84 (0.75-0.84 vs. baseline). Over 3 years and lifetime, the TOMAC vs. sham effect size corresponded to an added 0.10 and 0.49 QALYs (2.36 vs. 2.26; 12.59 vs. 12.10) at incremental costs of $8061 and $36,373 ($36,707 vs. $28,646; $224,040 vs.$187,667), resulting in ICER estimates of $83,822 and $73,600, respectively. Compared to baseline, TOMAC resulted in ICER estimates of $29,569 and $23,690 over 3 years and lifetime, respectively. TOMAC remained cost-effective or dominant across all scenarios, with ICERs ranging from $10,530-$83,822 and - $8061 to $29,569 vs. sham and baseline, respectively. Larger TOMAC effect sizes, achieved per extension study data, further increased cost-effectiveness.

CONCLUSION

 Based on this exploratory analysis of published trial data, TOMAC therapy appears to offer meaningful improvements in patient health-related quality at net costs that render it a cost-effective intervention. Further analyses are warranted.

Adjunctive tonic motor activation enables opioid reduction for refractory restless legs syndrome: a prospective, open-label, single-arm clinical trial

BACKGROUND

There is a large population of restless legs syndrome (RLS) patients who are refractory to medication. Whereas experts recommend off-label opioids as an effective long-term treatment for refractory RLS, reducing opioid dose could substantially reduce side effects and risks. Tonic motor activation (TOMAC) is a nonpharmacological therapeutic device indicated for refractory RLS. Here, we investigated if TOMAC could enable opioid dose reduction for refractory RLS.

METHODS

This prospective, open-label, single-arm clinical trial [NCT04698343] enrolled 20 adults taking ≤ 60 morphine milligram equivalents (MMEs) per day for refractory RLS. Participants self-administered 30-min TOMAC sessions bilaterally over the peroneal nerve when RLS symptoms presented. During TOMAC treatment, opioid dose was reduced iteratively every 2-3 weeks until Clinician Global Impression of Improvement (CGI-I) score relative to baseline exceeded 5. Primary endpoint was percent of participants who successfully reduced opioid dose ≥ 20% with CGI-I ≤ 5. Secondary endpoints included mean successful percent opioid dose reduction with CGI-I ≤ 5.

RESULTS

On average, participants were refractory to 3.2 medications (SD 1.6) and were taking a stable dose of opioids for 5.3 years (SD 3.9). Seventy percent of participants (70%, 14 of 20) successfully reduced opioid dose ≥ 20% with CGI-I ≤ 5. Mean percent opioid dose reduction with CGI-I ≤ 5 was 29.9% (SD 23.7%, n = 20) from 39.0 to 26.8 MME per day. Mean CGI-I score at the reduced dose was 4.0 (SD 1.4), indicating no change to RLS severity.

CONCLUSIONS

For refractory RLS, TOMAC enabled substantial opioid dose reduction without increased RLS symptoms. These results suggest that TOMAC has the potential to reduce the risk profile associated with opioid therapy for refractory RLS.

Measurements of Groomed-Jet Substructure of Charm Jets Tagged by D^{0} Mesons in Proton-Proton Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV

Understanding the role of parton mass and Casimir color factors in the quantum chromodynamics parton shower represents an important step in characterizing the emission properties of heavy quarks. Recent experimental advances in jet substructure techniques have provided the opportunity to isolate and characterize gluon emissions from heavy quarks. In this Letter, the first direct experimental constraint on the charm-quark splitting function is presented, obtained via the measurement of the groomed shared momentum fraction of the first splitting in charm jets, tagged by a reconstructed D^{0} meson. The measurement is made in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13  TeV, in the low jet transverse-momentum interval of 15≤p_{T}^{jet ch}<30  GeV/c where the emission properties are sensitive to parton mass effects. In addition, the opening angle of the first perturbative emission of the charm quark, as well as the number of perturbative emissions it undergoes, is reported. Comparisons to measurements of an inclusive-jet sample show a steeper splitting function for charm quarks compared with gluons and light quarks. Charm quarks also undergo fewer perturbative emissions in the parton shower, with a reduced probability of large-angle emissions.

Efficacy of once-nightly sodium oxybate (FT218) in narcolepsy type 1 and type 2: post hoc analysis from the Phase 3 REST-ON Trial

STUDY OBJECTIVES

Post hoc analyses from the phase 3 REST-ON trial evaluated efficacy of extended-release once-nightly sodium oxybate (ON-SXB; FT218) vs placebo for daytime sleepiness and disrupted nighttime sleep in narcolepsy type 1 (NT1) and 2 (NT2).

METHODS

Participants were stratified by narcolepsy type and randomized 1:1 to ON-SXB (4.5 g, week 1; 6 g, weeks 2-3; 7.5 g, weeks 4-8; and 9 g, weeks 9-13) or placebo. Assessments included mean sleep latency on Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) and Clinical Global Impression-Improvement (CGI-I) rating (coprimary endpoints) and sleep stage shifts, nocturnal arousals, and patient-reported sleep quality, refreshing nature of sleep, and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) score (secondary endpoints) separately in NT1 and NT2 subgroups.

RESULTS

The modified intent-to-treat population comprised 190 participants (NT1, n = 145; NT2, n = 45). Significant improvements were demonstrated with ON-SXB vs placebo in sleep latency for NT1 (all doses, p < .001) and NT2 (6 and 9 g, p < .05) subgroups. Greater proportions of participants in both subgroups had CGI-I ratings of much/very much improved with ON-SXB vs placebo. Sleep stage shifts and sleep quality significantly improved in both subgroups (all doses vs placebo, p < .001). Significant improvements with all ON-SXB doses vs placebo in refreshing nature of sleep (p < .001), nocturnal arousals (p < .05), and ESS scores (p ≤ .001) were reported for NT1 with directional improvements for NT2.

CONCLUSIONS

Clinically meaningful improvements of a single ON-SXB bedtime dose were shown for daytime sleepiness and DNS in NT1 and NT2, with less power for the limited NT2 subgroup.

Observation of Single-Top-Quark Production in Association with a Photon Using the ATLAS Detector

This Letter reports the observation of single top quarks produced together with a photon, which directly probes the electroweak coupling of the top quark. The analysis uses 139  fb^{-1} of 13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Requiring a photon with transverse momentum larger than 20 GeV and within the detector acceptance, the fiducial cross section is measured to be 688±23(stat) _{-71}^{+75}(syst)  fb, to be compared with the standard model prediction of 515_{-42}^{+36}  fb at next-to-leading order in QCD.

Comparison of clinical pathways for hypoglossal nerve stimulation management: in-laboratory titration polysomnography vs home-based efficacy sleep testing

STUDY OBJECTIVES

We conducted this study to evaluate whether laboratory or home-based hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HNS) management would have equivalent objective and subjective obstructive sleep apnea outcomes 6 months after activation.

METHODS

Patients undergoing standard-of-care HNS implantation were randomly assigned in a prospective, multicenter clinical trial to either a 3-month postactivation in-laboratory titration polysomnography (tPSG) or an efficacy home sleep study (eHST) with tPSG by exception for eHST nonresponders at 5 months. Both groups underwent an eHST 6 months postactivation.

RESULTS

Sixty patients were randomly assigned. Patients experienced equivalent decreases in the apnea-hypopnea index (mean difference: -0.01 events/h [-8.75, 8.74]) across both groups with HNS; the selection of tPSG or eHST did not associate with therapy response rates (tPSG vs eHST: 63.2% vs 59.1%). The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (median of differences: 1 [-1, 3]) and device usage (median of differences: 0.0 hours [-1.3, 1.3]) outcomes were similar but did not meet a priori statistical equivalence criteria.

CONCLUSIONS

This prospective, multicenter, randomized clinical trial demonstrated that patients undergoing HNS implantation experienced statistically equivalent improvements in objective obstructive sleep apnea outcomes and similar improvements in daytime sleepiness regardless of whether they underwent tPSG. HNS titration with tPSG may not be required for all postoperative patients.

Measurement of Suppression of Large-Radius Jets and Its Dependence on Substructure in Pb+Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV with the ATLAS Detector

Intelligence and Executive Functions: A Comprehensive Assessment of Intellectually Gifted Children

OBJECTIVE

Executive functions (EFs) play a key role in cognitive and behavioral functioning. Their multiple forms and implications for daily life behaviors mean they are sometimes equated with intelligence. Several elements even suggest that intellectually gifted children (IGC) may present better executive functioning than typical developing children (TDC, children with intelligence in the average range). However, no study has ever completely tested this hypothesis by a comprehensive assessment of EFs in IGC.

METHOD

Results of 30 IGC and 35 TDC aged from 6 to 16 years old were compared through a comprehensive assessment of EFs (inhibition, flexibility, and planning), comprising performance-based and daily life measures.

RESULTS

IGC did not differ from TDC in EF performance-based measures. However, they scored higher in parents' and some teachers' ratings, suggesting higher indicators of difficulties in daily life.

CONCLUSIONS

Contrary to expectations, high intellectual level does not appear to be associated with superior EFs. Surprisingly, parents and teachers of IGC reported more complaints about their executive functioning in everyday life. We put forward different hypotheses to explain this contrast. Further research is needed to better understand this phenomenon, in which neuropsychology has a fundamental role to play.

Measurement of the Sensitivity of Two-Particle Correlations in pp Collisions to the Presence of Hard Scatterings

A key open question in the study of multiparticle production in high-energy pp collisions is the relationship between the "ridge"-i.e., the observed azimuthal correlations between particles in the underlying event that extend over all rapidities-and hard or semihard scattering processes. In particular, it is not known whether jets or their soft fragments are correlated with particles in the underlying event. To address this question, two-particle correlations are measured in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13  TeV using data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, with an integrated luminosity of 15.8  pb^{-1}, in two different configurations. In the first case, charged particles associated with jets are excluded from the correlation analysis, while in the second case, correlations are measured between particles within jets and charged particles from the underlying event. Second-order flow coefficients, v_{2}, are presented as a function of event multiplicity and transverse momentum. These measurements show that excluding particles associated with jets does not affect the measured correlations. Moreover, particles associated with jets do not exhibit any significant azimuthal correlations with the underlying event, ruling out hard processes contributing to the ridge.

Observation of an Excess of Dicharmonium Events in the Four-Muon Final State with the ATLAS Detector

A search is made for potential ccc[over ¯]c[over ¯] tetraquarks decaying into a pair of charmonium states in the four muon final state using proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13  TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140  fb^{-1} recorded by the ATLAS experiment at LHC. Two decay channels, J/ψ+J/ψ→4μ and J/ψ+ψ(2S)→4μ, are studied. Backgrounds are estimated based on a hybrid approach involving Monte Carlo simulations and data-driven methods. Statistically significant excesses with respect to backgrounds dominated by the single parton scattering are seen in the di-J/ψ channel consistent with a narrow resonance at 6.9 GeV and a broader structure at lower mass. A statistically significant excess is also seen in the J/ψ+ψ(2S) channel. The fitted masses and decay widths of the structures are reported.

Observation of the γγ→ττ Process in Pb+Pb Collisions and Constraints on the τ-Lepton Anomalous Magnetic Moment with the ATLAS Detector

This Letter reports the observation of τ-lepton-pair production in ultraperipheral lead-lead collisions Pb+Pb→Pb(γγ→ττ)Pb and constraints on the τ-lepton anomalous magnetic moment a_{τ}. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.44  nb^{-1} of LHC Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02  TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment in 2018. Selected events contain one muon from a τ-lepton decay, an electron or charged-particle track(s) from the other τ-lepton decay, little additional central-detector activity, and no forward neutrons. The γγ→ττ process is observed in Pb+Pb collisions with a significance exceeding 5 standard deviations and a signal strength of μ_{ττ}=1.03_{-0.05}^{+0.06} assuming the standard model value for a_{τ}. To measure a_{τ}, a template fit to the muon transverse-momentum distribution from τ-lepton candidates is performed, using a dimuon (γγ→μμ) control sample to constrain systematic uncertainties. Long-term efficacy and safety of tonic motor activation for treatment of medication-refractory restless legs syndrome: A 24-Week Open-Label Extension Study

STUDY OBJECTIVES

To evaluate long-term efficacy and safety of tonic motor activation (TOMAC) for treatment of medication-refractory moderate-to-severe primary restless legs syndrome (RLS).

METHODS

In the parent study (RESTFUL), adults with refractory RLS were randomized to active TOMAC or sham for 4 weeks followed by 4 weeks of open-label active TOMAC. In the extension study, earlier RESTFUL completers comprised the control group (n = 59), which was followed for 24 weeks with no TOMAC intervention, and later RESTFUL completers compromised the treatment group (n = 44), which received 24 additional weeks of open-label active TOMAC followed by no intervention for 8 weeks. The primary endpoint was Clinician Global Impressions-Improvement (CGI-I) responder rate at week 24 compared to RESTFUL entry.

RESULTS

CGI-I responder rate improved from 63.6% (95% CI, 49.4 to 77.9%) at RESTFUL completion to 72.7% (95% CI, 58.2 to 83.7%) at week 24 for the treatment group versus 13.6% (95% CI, 7.0 to 24.5%) at week 24 for the control group (p < 0.0001). Mean change in International RLS Rating Scale (IRLS) score improved from -7.4 (95% CI, -5.6 to -9.2) at RESTFUL completion to -11.3 points (95% CI, -8.8 to -13.9) at week 24 for the treatment group versus -5.4 (95% CI, -3.7 to -7.2) at week 24 for control group (p = 0.0001). All efficacy endpoints partially reverted during cessation of treatment. There were no grade 2 or higher device-related adverse events.

CONCLUSIONS

TOMAC remained safe and efficacious for >24 total weeks of treatment with partial reversion of benefits upon cessation.

Efficacy and safety of tonic motor activation (TOMAC) for medication-refractory restless legs syndrome: a randomized clinical trial

STUDY OBJECTIVES

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety/tolerability of bilateral high-frequency tonic motor activation (TOMAC) in patients with medication-refractory restless legs syndrome (RLS).

METHODS

RESTFUL was a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled trial in adults with medication-refractory moderate-to-severe primary RLS. Participants were randomized 1:1 to active or sham TOMAC for a double-blind, 4-week stage 1 and all received active TOMAC during open-label, 4-week stage 2. The primary endpoint was the Clinical Global Impressions-Improvement (CGI-I) responder rate at the end of stage 1. Key secondary endpoints included change to International RLS Study Group (IRLS) total score from study entry to the end of stage 1.

RESULTS

A total of 133 participants were enrolled. CGI-I responder rate at the end of stage 1 was significantly greater for the active versus sham group (45% vs. 16%; Difference = 28%; 95% CI 14% to 43%; p = .00011). At the end of stage 2, CGI-I responder rate further increased to 61% for the active group. IRLS change at the end of stage 1 improved for the active versus sham group (-7.2 vs. -3.8; difference = -3.4; 95% CI -1.4 to -5.4; p = .00093). There were no severe or serious device-related adverse events (AEs). The most common AEs were mild discomfort and mild administration site irritation which resolved rapidly and reduced in prevalence over time.

CONCLUSIONS

TOMAC was safe, well tolerated, and reduced symptoms of RLS in medication-refractory patients. TOMAC is a promising new treatment for this population.

Individualized Treatment Patterns for Patients with Narcolepsy Treated with Oxybate: A Clinical Practice Perspective

Purpose

Real-world data regarding divided nightly dosing of oxybate and individualized prescribing in patients with narcolepsy are limited. Study objectives were to understand oxybate prescribing practices, including optimizing dose regimens and adjusting dosing per occasional changes in patients' routines, and physician recommendations for representative patient scenarios.

Patients and Methods

A cross-sectional, web- and audio-based survey of physicians treating ≥2 patients with narcolepsy, prescribed nightly oxybate (sodium oxybate) dosing for ≥6 months, was conducted. Physicians were surveyed on patients' usual oxybate dosing regimens, frequency of and reasons for oxybate dosing-related discussions, and preferred methods for and perceptions of adjusting oxybate dosing. Physicians provided dosing-related guidance for 4 representative scenarios.

Results

Participating physicians (N=25) were neurologists (52%), psychiatrists (44%), and neuropsychiatrists (4%). Individualized oxybate prescribing practices were reflected by the variability of physicians' reporting of the percentage of their patients being prescribed once-nightly, twice-nightly, and thrice-nightly dosing regimens. Most physicians (68%) reported discussing adjusting individualized treatment to accommodate occasional changes to patients' routines; the most common reasons were consuming contraindicated beverages (alcohol; 65%) and travel (59%). Adjusting total nightly dose (68%) and dose timing (68%) were preferred adjustment methods. Most physicians (88%) felt the ability to individualize oxybate dosing was important and had a positive impact on ability to provide care. For each representative scenario, physicians provided several dose-adjustment recommendations, and physician responses encouraged patient participation in treatment decision-making.

Conclusion

Physicians provided guidance supportive of oxybate dose adjustments to accommodate occasional changes in patients' routines, and perceived individualized dosing as important in providing care.

Measurement of the Lifetime and Λ Separation Energy of _{Λ}^{3}H

The most precise measurements to date of the _{Λ}^{3}H lifetime τ and Λ separation energy B_{Λ} are obtained using the data sample of Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02  TeV collected by ALICE at the LHC. The _{Λ}^{3}H is reconstructed via its charged two-body mesonic decay channel (_{Λ}^{3}H→^{3}He+π^{-} and the charge-conjugate process). The measured values τ=[253±11(stat)±6(syst)]  ps and B_{Λ}=[102±63(stat)±67(syst)]  keV are compatible with predictions from effective field theories and confirm that the _{Λ}^{3}H structure is consistent with a weakly bound system.

Measurements of jet multiplicity and jet transverse momentum in multijet events in proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV

Multijet events at large transverse momentum (p T ) are measured at s = 13 Te V using data recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.3 fb - 1 . The multiplicity of jets with p T > 50 Ge V that are produced in association with a high-p T dijet system is measured in various ranges of the p T of the jet with the highest transverse momentum and as a function of the azimuthal angle difference Δ ϕ 1 , 2 between the two highest p T jets in the dijet system. The differential production cross sections are measured as a function of the transverse momenta of the four highest p T jets. The measurements are compared with leading and next-to-leading order matrix element calculations supplemented with simulations of parton shower, hadronization, and multiparton interactions. In addition, the measurements are compared with next-to-leading order matrix element calculations combined with transverse-momentum dependent parton densities and transverse-momentum dependent parton shower.

Strong Constraints on Jet Quenching in Centrality-Dependent p+Pb Collisions at 5.02 TeV from ATLAS

Jet quenching is the process of color-charged partons losing energy via interactions with quark-gluon plasma droplets created in heavy-ion collisions. The collective expansion of such droplets is well described by viscous hydrodynamics. Similar evidence of collectivity is consistently observed in smaller collision systems, including pp and p+Pb collisions. In contrast, while jet quenching is observed in Pb+Pb collisions, no evidence has been found in these small systems to date, raising fundamental questions about the nature of the system created in these collisions. The ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider has measured the yield of charged hadrons correlated with reconstructed jets in 0.36  nb^{-1} of p+Pb and 3.6  pb^{-1} of pp collisions at 5.02 TeV. The yields of charged hadrons with p_{T}^{ch}>0.5  GeV near and opposite in azimuth to jets with p_{T}^{jet}>30 or 60 GeV, and the ratios of these yields between p+Pb and pp collisions, I_{pPb}, are reported. The collision centrality of p+Pb events is categorized by the energy deposited by forward neutrons from the struck nucleus. The I_{pPb} values are consistent with unity within a few percent for hadrons with p_{T}^{ch}>4  GeV at all centralities. These data provide new, strong constraints that preclude almost any parton energy loss in central p+Pb collisions.

Search for Heavy Neutral Leptons in Decays of W Bosons Using a Dilepton Displaced Vertex in sqrt[s]=13 TeV pp Collisions with the ATLAS Detector

A search for a long-lived, heavy neutral lepton (N) in 139  fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13  TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider is reported. The N is produced via W→Nμ or W→Ne and decays into two charged leptons and a neutrino, forming a displaced vertex. The N mass is used to discriminate between signal and background. Azimuthal correlations in Z +jets events in proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV

The production of Z bosons associated with jets is measured in pp collisions at s = 13 Te V with data recorded with the CMS experiment at the LHC corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.3fb - 1 . The multiplicity of jets with transverse momentum p T > 30 Ge V is measured for different regions of the Z boson's p T ( Z ) , from lower than 10Ge V to higher than 100Ge V . The azimuthal correlation Δ ϕ between the Z boson and the leading jet, as well as the correlations between the two leading jets are measured in three regions of p T ( Z ) . The measurements are compared with several predictions at leading and next-to-leading orders, interfaced with parton showers. Predictions based on transverse-momentum dependent parton distributions and corresponding parton showers give a good description of the measurement in the regions where multiple parton interactions and higher jet multiplicities are not important. The effects of multiple parton interactions are shown to be important to correctly describe the measured spectra in the low p T ( Z ) regions.

Test of CP Invariance in Higgs Boson Vector-Boson-Fusion Production Using the H→γγ Channel with the ATLAS Detector

A test of CP invariance in Higgs boson production via vector-boson fusion has been performed in the H→γγ channel using 139  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13  TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The optimal observable method is used to probe the CP structure of interactions between the Higgs boson and electroweak gauge bosons, as described by an effective field theory. No sign of CP violation is observed in the data. Constraints are set on the parameters describing the strength of the CP-odd component in the coupling between the Higgs boson and the electroweak gauge bosons in two effective field theory bases: d[over ˜] in the HISZ basis and c_{HW[over ˜]} in the Warsaw basis. The results presented are the most stringent constraints on CP violation in the coupling between Higgs and weak bosons. The 95% C.L. constraint on d[over ˜] is derived for the first time and the 95% C.L. constraint on c_{HW[over ˜]} has been improved by a factor of 5 compared to the previous measurement.

Azimuthal Correlations within Exclusive Dijets with Large Momentum Transfer in Photon-Lead Collisions

The structure of nucleons is multidimensional and depends on the transverse momenta, spatial geometry, and polarization of the constituent partons. Such a structure can be studied using high-energy photons produced in ultraperipheral heavy-ion collisions. The first measurement of the azimuthal angular correlations of exclusively produced events with two jets in photon-lead interactions at large momentum transfer is presented, a process that is considered to be sensitive to the underlying nuclear gluon polarization. This study uses a data sample of ultraperipheral lead-lead collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02  TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.38  nb^{-1}, collected with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The measured second harmonic of the correlation between the sum and difference of the two jet transverse momentum vectors is found to be positive, and rising, as the dijet transverse momentum increases. A well-tuned model that has been successful at describing a wide range of proton scattering data from the HERA experiments fails to describe the observed correlations, suggesting the presence of gluon polarization effects.

First Measurement of Antideuteron Number Fluctuations at Energies Available at the Large Hadron Collider

The first measurement of event-by-event antideuteron number fluctuations in high energy heavy-ion collisions is presented. The measurements are carried out at midrapidity (|η|<0.8) as a function of collision centrality in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02  TeV using the ALICE detector. A significant negative correlation between the produced antiprotons and antideuterons is observed in all collision centralities. The results are compared with a state-of-the-art coalescence calculation. While it describes the ratio of higher order cumulants of the antideuteron multiplicity distribution, it fails to describe quantitatively the magnitude of the correlation between antiproton and antideuteron production. On the other hand, thermal-statistical model calculations describe all the measured observables within uncertainties only for correlation volumes that are different with respect to those describing proton yields and a similar measurement of net-proton number fluctuations.

Enhanced Deuteron Coalescence Probability in Jets

The transverse-momentum (p_{T}) spectra and coalescence parameters B_{2} of (anti)deuterons are measured in p-p collisions at sqrt[s]=13  TeV for the first time in and out of jets. In this measurement, the direction of the leading particle with the highest p_{T} in the event (p_{T}^{lead}>5  GeV/c) is used as an approximation for the jet axis. The event is consequently divided into three azimuthal regions, and the jet signal is obtained as the difference between the toward region, that contains jet fragmentation products in addition to the underlying event (UE), and the transverse region, which is dominated by the UE. The coalescence parameter in the jet is found to be approximately a factor of 10 larger than that in the underlying event. This experimental observation is consistent with the coalescence picture and can be attributed to the smaller average phase-space distance between nucleons in the jet cone as compared with the underlying event. The results presented in this Letter are compared to predictions from a simple nucleon coalescence model, where the phase-space distributions of nucleons are generated using pythia8 with the Monash 2013 tuning, and to predictions from a deuteron production model based on ordinary nuclear reactions with parametrized energy-dependent cross sections tuned on data. The latter model is implemented in pythia8.3. Both models reproduce the observed large difference between in-jet and out-of-jet coalescence parameters, although the almost flat trend of the B_{2}^{Jet} is not reproduced by the models, which instead give a decreasing trend.

Measurement of the mass dependence of the transverse momentum of lepton pairs in Drell-Yan production in proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV

The double differential cross sections of the Drell-Yan lepton pair (ℓ + ℓ - , dielectron or dimuon) production are measured as functions of the invariant mass m ℓ ℓ , transverse momentum p T ( ℓ ℓ ) , and φ η ∗ . The φ η ∗ observable, derived from angular measurements of the leptons and highly correlated with p T ( ℓ ℓ ) , is used to probe the low-p T ( ℓ ℓ ) region in a complementary way. Dilepton masses up to 1Te V are investigated. Additionally, a measurement is performed requiring at least one jet in the final state. To benefit from partial cancellation of the systematic uncertainty, the ratios of the differential cross sections for various m ℓ ℓ ranges to those in the Z mass peak interval are presented. The collected data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36.3fb - 1 of proton-proton collisions recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13Te V . Measurements are compared with predictions based on perturbative quantum chromodynamics, including soft-gluon resummation.

CMS pythia 8 colour reconnection tunes based on underlying-event data

New sets of parameter tunes for two of the colour reconnection models, quantum chromodynamics-inspired and gluon-move, implemented in the pythia  8 event generator, are obtained based on the default CMS pythia  8 underlying-event tune, CP5. Measurements sensitive to the underlying event performed by the CMS experiment at centre-of-mass energies s = 7 and 13Te V , and by the CDF experiment at 1.96Te V are used to constrain the parameters of colour reconnection models and multiple-parton interactions simultaneously. The new colour reconnection tunes are compared with various measurements at 1.96, 7, 8, and 13Te V including measurements of the underlying-event, strange-particle multiplicities, jet substructure observables, jet shapes, and colour flow in top quark pair (t t ¯ ) events. The new tunes are also used to estimate the uncertainty related to colour reconnection modelling in the top quark mass measurement using the decay products of t t ¯ events in the semileptonic channel at 13Te V .

Search for light Higgs bosons from supersymmetric cascade decays in pp collisions at s=13TeV

A search is reported for pairs of light Higgs bosons (H 1 ) produced in supersymmetric cascade decays in final states with small missing transverse momentum. A data set of LHC pp collisions collected with the CMS detector at s = 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138fb - 1 is used. The search targets events where both H 1 bosons decay into pairs that are reconstructed as large-radius jets using substructure techniques. No evidence is found for an excess of events beyond the background expectations of the standard model (SM). Results from the search are interpreted in the next-to-minimal supersymmetric extension of the SM, where a "singlino" of small mass leads to squark and gluino cascade decays that can predominantly end in a highly Lorentz-boosted singlet-like H 1 and a singlino-like neutralino of small transverse momentum. Upper limits are set on the product of the squark or gluino pair production cross section and the square of the branching fraction of the H 1 in a benchmark model containing almost mass-degenerate gluinos and light-flavour squarks. Under the assumption of an SM-like branching fraction, H 1 bosons with masses in the range 40-120GeV arising from the decays of squarks or gluinos with a mass of 1200-2500GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement in Bicuspid Aortic Valve: A Case Report

Among other valvular heart disease Aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common in the developed world. Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) is most acceptable treatment option for patient with severely calcified aortic stenosis with high and intermediate risk group. Among several challenges, one of the main challenges is to deal with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV). Non-circular annulus, bulky leaflets leading to perivalvular leaks and risk for rupture and often very severe calcification may contribute to periprocedural strokes leading to poor clinical outcome. This case, a 68-year-old woman with a history of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), hypothyroidism, bicuspid aortic valve and severe aortic stenosis, bronchial asthma, who had repeatedly refused any suggestion for open heart surgery, was our volunteer candidate for TAVR. After successful TAVR the peak pressure gradient decreased from 100mmHg to 17mmHg. So, TAVR could be a viable option for highly selected patients with severe aortic stenosis and bicuspid aortic valve who have favourable anatomy.

INNOVATIONS IN ARTIFICIAL ORGANS AND TISSUE ENGINEERING: FROM 3D PRINTING TO STEM CELL THERAPY

"Every year, many individuals with tissue or organ problems require urgent care due to medical emergencies, burns, congenital anomalies, and other causes". Regenerative medicine was created because there aren't enough donors, issues with graft rejection, and insufficient organs or tissues for patients to replace, repair, and regenerate. However, significant tissue defects are difficult to fill with injections alone, making stem cell therapy a crucial component of the area of regenerative medicine. To achieve the intended outcome, the researchers combine stem cells with three-dimensional (3D) printed organs tissue engineering scaffolding. These scaffolds can resemble bone, cartilage, or "extracellular matrix (ECM)" in that they provide structural support and promote adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation, finally resulting in the production of functional tissues or organs. In this study on stem cell regenerative medicine, the therapeutic focused mostly on scaffolding for 3D printed organ tissue engineering. The following applications are demonstrated and compared using various 3D printing processes and starting materials. Then, we go over the benefits of 3D printing over conventional methods, touch on certain issues and restrictions, and make some assumptions about potential applications in the future.

Awareness of social care needs in people with epilepsy and intellectual disability

BACKGROUND

Nearly a quarter of people with intellectual disability (ID) have epilepsy with large numbers experiencing drug-resistant epilepsy, and premature mortality. To mitigate epilepsy risks the environment and social care needs, particularly in professional care settings, need to be met.

PURPOSE

To compare professional care groups as regards their subjective confidence and perceived responsibility when managing the need of people with ID and epilepsy.

METHOD

A multi-agency expert panel developed a questionnaire with embedded case vignettes with quantitative and qualitative elements to understand training and confidence in the health and social determinants of people with ID and epilepsy. The cross-sectional survey was disseminated amongst health and social care professionals working with people with ID in the UK using an exponential non-discriminative snow-balling methodology. Group comparisons were undertaken using suitable statistical tests including Fisher's exact, Kruskal-Wallis, and Mann-Whitney. Bonferroni correction was applied to significant (p < 0.05) results. Content analysis was conducted and relevant categories and themes were identified.

RESULTS

Social and health professionals (n = 54) rated their confidence to manage the needs of people with ID and epilepsy equally. Health professionals showed better awareness (p < 0.001) of the findings/recommendations of the latest evidence on premature deaths and identifying and managing epilepsy-related risks, including the relevance of nocturnal monitoring. The content analysis highlighted the need for clearer roles, improved care pathways, better epilepsy-specific knowledge, increased resources, and better multi-disciplinary work.

CONCLUSIONS

A gap exists between health and social care professionals in awareness of epilepsy needs for people with ID, requiring essential training and national pathways.

Oscillating Solitons and ac Josephson Effect in Ferromagnetic Bose-Bose Mixtures

Close to the demixing transition, the degree of freedom associated with relative density fluctuations of a two-component Bose-Einstein condensate is described by a nondissipative Landau-Lifshitz equation. In the quasi-one-dimensional weakly immiscible case, this mapping surprisingly predicts that a dark-bright soliton should oscillate when subject to a constant force favoring separation of the two components. We propose a realistic experimental implementation of this phenomenon which we interpret as a spin-Josephson effect in the presence of a movable barrier.

Photoluminescence behavior of rare earth doped self-activated phosphors (i.e. niobate and vanadate) and their applications

In the present study, the photoluminescence behaviors of rare earth doped self-activated phosphors are discussed briefly. Different techniques were used to develop these phosphor samples. We prepared pure and rare earth doped phosphor samples to look for their various applications. The structural confirmations and surface morphologies were performed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) measurements, respectively. The upconversion (UC) phenomenon was investigated in Tm³⁺/Yb³⁺ and Ho³⁺/Yb³⁺ co-doped niobate and vanadate based phosphors, which gave intense blue/NIR and green/red emissions with a 980 nm diode laser as an excitation source. Pure niobate and vanadate phosphor materials are self-activated hosts which give broad blue emission under UV excitation. Upon UV excitation, intense broad blue emission along with sharp emissions due to Tm³⁺ and Ho³⁺ ions are observed via energy transfer between niobate/vanadate and rare earth ions. These self-activated hosts show prominent downshifting (DS) behavior. Broad band quantum cutting (QC) was observed in these self-activated hosts, in which a blue emitting photon is converted into two NIR photons by co-doping Yb³⁺ ions in it. The multimodal (upconversion, downshifting and quantum cutting) behaviors of these phosphors make them very promising in various applications, such as spectral converters to enhance the efficiency of a c-Si solar cell, security ink and color tunable materials.

Multi-source datasets acquired over Toulouse (France) in 2021 for urban microclimate studies during the CAMCATT/AI4GEO field campaign

The CAMCATT-AI4GEO extensive field experiment took place in Toulouse, a city in the southwest of France, from 14^th to 25^th June 2021 (with complementary measurements performed on the 6 September 2021). Its main objective was the acquisition of a new reference dataset on an urban site to support the development and validation of data products from the future thermal infrared (TIR) satellite missions such as TRISHNA (CNES/ISRO), LSTM (ESA) and SBG (NASA). With their high spatial (between 30-60m) and temporal (2-3 days) resolutions, the future TIR satellite data will allow a better investigation of the urban climate at the neighbourhood scale. However, in order to validate the future products of these missions such as LST, air temperature, comfort index and Urban Heat Island (UHI), there is a need to accurately characterise the organisation of the city in terms of 3D geometry, spectral optical properties and both land surface temperature and emissivity (LST and LSE) at several scales. In this context, the CAMCATT-AI4GEO field campaign provides a set of airborne VISNIR-SWIR (Visible Near InfraRed - ShortWave InfraRed) hyperspectral imagery, multispectral thermal infrared (TIR) imagery and 3D LiDAR acquisitions, together with a variety of ground data collected, for some of them, simultaneously to the flight. The ground dataset includes surface reflectance measured spectrally with ASD spectroradiometers and in six spectral bands spreading from shortwave to thermal infrared and for two viewing angles with a SOC410-DHR handheld reflectometer. It is completed with LST and LSE retrieved from thermal infrared radiance acquired in six spectral bands with CIMEL radiometers. It also includes meteorological data coming from four radio soundings (one of which was taken during the flight), data routinely collected at the Blagnac airport reference station as well as air temperature and humidity acquired using instrumented cars following two different itineraries. In addition, a link is provided to access the data routinely collected by the network of weather stations set up by Toulouse Metropole in the city and its surroundings. This data paper describes this new reference urban dataset which can be useful for many applications such as calibration/validation of at-surface radiance, LST and LSE data products as well as higher level products such as air temperature or comfort index. It also provides valuable opportunities for other applications in urban climate studies, such as supporting the validation of microclimate models.

Update on the treatment of idiopathic hypersomnia: Progress, challenges, and expert opinion

Idiopathic hypersomnia is a central hypersomnolence disorder of unknown origin characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness despite normal or long sleep time, and frequent severe sleep inertia. Management strategies have been largely derived from expert consensus, due to a lack of disease-specific assessments and reliance on case series and rare randomized controlled studies. Guidelines recommend treatment with off-label medications. Modafinil, which was approved for idiopathic hypersomnia until 2011 in Europe, is the most commonly used treatment and improved sleepiness in two recent randomized placebo-controlled trials. In 2021, low-sodium oxybate (LXB) was approved in the United States for idiopathic hypersomnia. In a placebo-controlled, double-blind, randomized withdrawal study, LXB reduced daytime sleepiness and sleep inertia, and improved daily functioning. Here, treatment options are reviewed considering the authors' professional experience, current guidelines, and the latest research developments. The choice of pharmacotherapy should be guided by symptom profile, age, comorbidities (eg, depressive symptoms, cardiovascular problems), and concomitant medications (eg, oral contraceptives). Nonpharmacologic approaches have a role in management. An instrument (idiopathic hypersomnia severity scale) has been validated in idiopathic hypersomnia specifically, opening a path to better assessment of symptoms, impact, and response to treatment. Continued research on idiopathic hypersomnia is needed to support treatment algorithms.
