Abstract
We investigated the dissociation of dications and trications of three polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), fluorene, phenanthrene, and pyrene. PAHs are a family of molecules ubiquitous in space and involved in much of the chemistry of the interstellar medium. In our experiments, ions are formed by interaction with 30.3 nm extreme ultraviolet (XUV) photons, and their velocity map images are recorded using a PImMS2 multi-mass imaging sensor. Application of recoil-frame covariance analysis allows the total kinetic energy release (TKER) associated with multiple fragmentation channels to be determined to high precision, ranging 1.94-2.60 eV and 2.95-5.29 eV for the dications and trications, respectively. Experimental measurements are supported by Born-Oppenheimer molecular dynamics (BOMD) simulations.

Abstract
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) play an important role in interstellar chemistry and are subject to high energy photons that can induce excitation, ionization, and fragmentation. Previous studies have demonstrated electronic relaxation of parent PAH monocations over 10-100 femtoseconds as a result of beyond-Born-Oppenheimer coupling between the electronic and nuclear dynamics. Here, we investigate three PAH molecules: fluorene, phenanthrene, and pyrene, using ultrafast XUV and IR laser pulses. Simultaneous measurements of the ion yields, ion momenta, and electron momenta as a function of laser pulse delay allow a detailed insight into the various molecular processes. We report relaxation times for the electronically excited PAH*, PAH+* and PAH2+* states, and show the time-dependent conversion between fragmentation pathways. Additionally, using recoil-frame covariance analysis between ion images, we demonstrate that the dissociation of the PAH2+ ions favors reaction pathways involving two-body breakup and/or loss of neutral fragments totaling an even number of carbon atoms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dipyrone (metamizole) is widely used for perioperative pain management in countries where it is marketed; however, uncertainty exists concerning the safe use of this drug, specifically considering the rare adverse event of an agranulocytosis. METHODS As evidence from published studies was lacking, an expert panel developed recommendations for the perioperative use of dipyrone. After a formal, structured consensus process, the recommendations were approved by the involved medical societies. RESULTS The panel agreed that blood cell counts shall not be standard for short-term perioperative use in patients unless they are at risk for neutropenia. The medical staff shall be aware of the symptoms and course of action when agranulocytosis is suspected. Patients shall be informed about the risks and benefits of dipyrone and about potential alternatives. The expert group concluded that dipyrone has a relatively positive risk-benefit ratio compared to other nonopioid analgesics. The group strongly recommended educating patients about the symptoms of agranulocytosis if they have received dipyrone over several days and/or treatment is to be continued after discharge, because agranulocytosis can occur several days after discontinuation of metamizole. Further recommendations refer to the information of the physician taking over the patient's care after discharge and the avoidance of re-exposure in patients having previously suffered from dipyrone-induced agranulocytosis. CONCLUSION The group's recommendations shall be communicated in order to raise medical staff's and patients' awareness of the appropriate use of dipyrone in the perioperative period.

Abstract
We report the case of a 60-year old female patient with advanced severe lung injury as a consequence of COVID-19-pneumonia. The patient was initially treated with highflow oxygen via nasal cannula (HFNC) and CPAP for two days but had to be intubated and mechanically ventilated. After failure of mechanical ventilation because of persistant severe hypoxemia treatment was switched to ECMO which was applicated for 24 days. Prognostic parameters indicated a favourable trend after day 14. After discontinuation of ECMO and 11 days of intermittent assisted ventilation via tracheostoma and low dose oxygen (1 l/min), the patient could be transferred to rehabilitation. The last chest radiograph prior to transferral revealed a nearly complete resolution of bilateral pulmonary infiltrates. Our case demonstrates that severe COVID-19-associated lung injury can be reversible even after prolonged ECMO.

Abstract
Pancreatic carcinomas are rare in dogs and clinical signs are mostly non-specific. The literature on clinically and pathologically characterized canine exocrine pancreatic tumours is limited to 76 cases reported since 1963. This retrospective study analysed formalin-fixed samples of pancreatic carcinomas from 22 dogs, obtained during elective exploratory surgery (n = 16) or if the dog was humanely destroyed (n = 6). Tumours were diagnosed according to the World Health Organization classification of tumours of the pancreas of domestic animals. In seven cases, blood samples taken during or shortly before surgery were analysed for concentrations of alpha-amylase, 1,2-o-dilauryl-rac-glycero-3-glutaric acid-(6'-methylresorufin) ester lipase (DGGR lipase), C-reactive protein (CRP), alanine aminotransferase, glutamate dehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), canine trypsin-like immunoreactivity (cTLI) and canine pancreatic lipase immunoreactivity (cPLI). Neutrophil and lymphocyte numbers were determined as part of a complete blood count. Clinical signs were non-specific and included vomiting, inappetence and diarrhoea. Acinar carcinomas were most common (19/22) and observed growth patterns included: solid (n = 14), acinar (n = 5), clear cell (n = 3), mucinous (n = 2), trabecular (n = 1) or rosette-like (n = 1), occurring as a single pattern or in combination. Ductal carcinomas were identified in three cases. Pancreatitis was a common additional histological finding; five dogs had mild and nine dogs had severe pancreatitis. cPLI, DGGR lipase, cTLI and CRP were elevated in 5/5 acinar carcinomas. All liver enzymes were elevated in three of these five animals and ALP was increased in 4/5 dogs. Two dogs with ductal pancreatic carcinomas showed normal cPLI concentrations. One had increased CRP, liver enzymes and leucocytosis with neutrophilia, the other had elevated DGGR lipase and cTLI concentrations. Clinical findings in canine pancreatic carcinomas were non-specific and simultaneous inflammation can mask the detection of the underlying neoplasm in clinical examination and laboratory testing.

Abstract
For quantitative electron microscopy the comparison of measured and simulated data is essential. Monte Carlo (MC) simulations are well established to calculate the high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM) intensities on a non-atomic scale. In this work we focus on the importance of the screening parameter in differential screened Rutherford cross-sections for MC simulations and on the contribution of the screening parameter to the atomic-number dependence of the HAADF-STEM intensity at electron energies ≤ 30 keV. Materials investigated were chosen to cover a wide range of atomic numbers Z to study the Z dependence of the screening parameter. Comparison of measured and simulated HAADF-STEM intensities with different screening parameters known from the literature were tested and failed to generally describe the experimental data. Hence, the screening parameter was adapted to obtain the best match between experimental and MC-simulated HAADF-STEM intensities. The Z dependence of the HAADF-STEM intensity was derived.

Electron beam broadening in electron-transparent samples at low electron energies. J Microsc 2019; 274:150-157. Abstract
Scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) at low primary electron energies has received increasing attention in recent years because knock-on damage can be avoided and high contrast for weakly scattering materials is obtained. However, the broadening of the electron beam in the sample is pronounced at low electron energies, which degrades resolution and limits the maximum specimen thickness. In this work, we have studied electron beam broadening in materials with atomic numbers Z between 10 and 32 (MgO, Si, SrTiO3 , Ge) and thicknesses up to 900 nm. Beam broadening is directly measured using a multisegmented STEM detector installed in a scanning electron microscope at electron energies between 15 and 30 keV. For experimental reasons, the electron beam diameter is defined to contain only 68% of the total intensity instead of the commonly used 90% of the total beam intensity. The measured beam diameters can be well described with calculated ones based on a recently published model by Gauvin and Rudinsky. Using the concept of anomalous diffusion the Hurst exponent H is introduced that varies between 0.5 and 1 for different scattering regimes depending on t/Λel with the specimen thickness t and the elastic mean free path length Λel . The calculations also depend on the fraction of the beam intensity that defines the electron beam diameter. A Hurst exponent H of 1 is characteristic for the ballistic scattering regime with t/Λel → 0 and can be excluded for the experimental conditions of our study with 6 ≦ t/Λel ≦ 30. We deduced H = 0.75 from measured beam diameters which is larger than H = 0.5 that is expected under diffusion conditions. The deviation towards larger H values can be rationalised by our definition of electron diameter that contains only 68% of the total beam intensity and requires therefore larger sample thicknesses before the diffusion regime is reached. Our results clearly deviate from previous analytical approaches to describe beam broadening (Goldstein et al., Reed, Williams et al., Kohl and Reimer). Measured beam diameters are compared with simulated ones, which are obtained by solving the electron transport equation. This approach is advantageous compared to the commonly used Monte Carlo simulations because it is an exact solution of the electron transport equation and requires less computer time. Simulated beam diameter agree well with the experimental data and yield H = 0.80. LAY DESCRIPTION: In scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), a focused electron beam is scanned over an electron-transparent sample and an image is formed by detecting the intensity of the transmitted electrons by a STEM detector. STEM resolution is ultimately limited by the electron beam diameter and can be better than 0.1 nm for the best microscopes. However, the electron-beam diameter increases with increasing specimen thickness because electrons are scattered by the interaction of the specimen material and electrons. Electron scattering leads to a change of the electron propagation direction and reduces focusing of the electron beam. The associated electron-beam broadening degrades the lateral resolution of STEM and generally limits the maximum specimen thickness that can be imaged with good resolution. STEM is up to now mainly performed at high electron energies of 80 keV and above. Lower electron energies are beneficial for the study of weakly scattering and radiation-sensitive materials but electron beam broadening becomes more pronounced with decreasing electron energies. Knowledge of beam broadening is therefore particularly important for the interpretation of STEM images that are taken with low-energy electrons. In this work we have studied electron-beam broadening in different materials with thicknesses up to 900 nm at low electron energies between 15 and 30 keV. Beam broadening is directly measured with a newly developed technique. We compare measured beam diameters with different models on beam broadening from literature and find that only a recently published model is well suited to describe the experimental results under our experimental conditions. In addition, beam broadening is simulated by modelling electron propagation in the specimen. The simulation results agree well with the measured beam diameters.

Abstract
Extreme ultraviolet (XUV) and X-ray free-electron lasers enable new scientific opportunities. Their ultra-intense coherent femtosecond pulses give unprecedented access to the structure of undepositable nanoscale objects and to transient states of highly excited matter. In order to probe the ultrafast complex light-induced dynamics on the relevant time scales, the multi-purpose end-station CAMP at the free-electron laser FLASH has been complemented by the novel multilayer-mirror-based split-and-delay unit DESC (DElay Stage for CAMP) for time-resolved experiments. XUV double-pulses with delays adjustable from zero femtoseconds up to 650 picoseconds are generated by reflecting under near-normal incidence, exceeding the time range accessible with existing XUV split-and-delay units. Procedures to establish temporal and spatial overlap of the two pulses in CAMP are presented, with emphasis on the optimization of the spatial overlap at long time-delays via time-dependent features, for example in ion spectra of atomic clusters.

Abstract
The non-monochromatic beamline BL1 at the FLASH free-electron laser facility at DESY was upgraded with new transport and focusing optics, and a new permanent end-station, CAMP, was installed. This multi-purpose instrument is optimized for electron- and ion-spectroscopy, imaging and pump-probe experiments at free-electron lasers. It can be equipped with various electron- and ion-spectrometers, along with large-area single-photon-counting pnCCD X-ray detectors, thus enabling a wide range of experiments from atomic, molecular, and cluster physics to material and energy science, chemistry and biology. Here, an overview of the layout, the beam transport and focusing capabilities, and the experimental possibilities of this new end-station are presented, as well as results from its commissioning.

Abstract
SummaryA marked fibrinolytic activity could be demonstrated in the blood of 10 patients with polycythaemia. In these cases fibrinolysis was considered the result of a deficiency an antiplasmin. It could be demonstrated that this naturally occurring inhibitor of fibrinolysis is present in normal platelets but is lacking in the patient’s own thrombocytes. This factor is probably attached to the surface of the thrombocytes. It could be removed by repeatedly washing. Lack of antiplasmin is a dysfunction of platelets and a form of thrombopathy. It does not respond on treatment with ACA or prednisone. In primary polycythaemia busulfan (Myleran) was considered to be the treatment of choice, whereas in 1 case of secundary erythrocytosis (Fallot’s tetralogy) the reaction on unroasted peanuts was unmistakable. In 4 more patients an alcoholic extract of peanuts was given, and promising results were obtained in 3 of them. The importance of this “thrombopathic type’ of fibrinolysis has been pointed out especially in view of surgical interventions.

Abstract
Conclusions and summaryAn extensive investigation of the coagulation mechanism was performed in 21 patients suffering from a congenital heart failure and exposed to surgical treatment with the aid of extra-corporeal circulation. The results have been discussed and suggestions given for the preoperative and postoperative mode of investigation in future. Only three factors may be considered a possible contraindication for the operation, namely1. a persistent and marked thrombocytopenia,2. fibrinogenopenia and3. a high degree of fibrinolysis. Before a final decision to operate is taken an attempt should be made to restore the impaired coagulation mechanism. The necessity of a preoperative analysis and a close cooperation between the surgeon and the coagulationist before, during and after the operation have been stressed.

Abstract
Simultaneous improvement of protein content and grain yield by index selection is possible but its efficiency largely depends on the weighting of the single traits. The genetic architecture of these indices is similar to that of the primary traits. Grain yield and protein content are of major importance in durum wheat breeding, but their negative correlation has hampered their simultaneous improvement. To account for this in wheat breeding, the grain protein deviation (GPD) and the protein yield were proposed as targets for selection. The aim of this work was to investigate the potential of different indices to simultaneously improve grain yield and protein content in durum wheat and to evaluate their genetic architecture towards genomics-assisted breeding. To this end, we investigated two different durum wheat panels comprising 159 and 189 genotypes, which were tested in multiple field locations across Europe and genotyped by a genotyping-by-sequencing approach. The phenotypic analyses revealed significant genetic variances for all traits and heritabilities of the phenotypic indices that were in a similar range as those of grain yield and protein content. The GPD showed a high and positive correlation with protein content, whereas protein yield was highly and positively correlated with grain yield. Thus, selecting for a high GPD would mainly increase the protein content whereas a selection based on protein yield would mainly improve grain yield, but a combination of both indices allows to balance this selection. The genome-wide association mapping revealed a complex genetic architecture for all traits with most QTL having small effects and being detected only in one germplasm set, thus limiting the potential of marker-assisted selection for trait improvement. By contrast, genome-wide prediction appeared promising but its performance strongly depends on the relatedness between training and prediction sets.

Abstract
Extracorporeal CO2 removal combined with low-frequency positive pressure ventilation (ECCO2-R LFPPV) is a new therapeutic approach in treatment of ARDS. The main problem during long-term extracorporeal support is anticoagulation and related bleeding problems. We conducted a prospective, randomized and controlled clinical trial in 18 patients to compare the effect of the non-heparin-coated (Scimed = group 1) with the heparin-coated (Carmeda = group 2) extracorporeal circuit on clinical course and complication rate. In group 2 the daily blood loss, the amount of substituted red cells and the i.v. heparin dose were significantly lower than in group 1. Bleeding complications were less and more patients survived in group 2. The disadvantage of the hollow fiber oxygenators in the heparin-coated system was plasma leakage, which was more frequent in patients with pancreatitis and hyperbilirubinemia.

Abstract
Anxiety and depressive symptoms have adverse effects on children's development. The present study investigates the associations of socioeconomic factors as well as maternal emotional health with children's emotional health status. The data were collected between 2011 and 2015 in the LIFE Child study, a population-based cohort study in Leipzig, Germany. The emotional health status of 1093 children (2.5-11.9 years old) was investigated using the subscale 'emotional problems' of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire. Associations of maternal emotional health, family status, and socioeconomic status (SES) with the emotional health status of children were estimated via regression analyses. 21.13% of the participating children were assigned to the 'risk' group for emotional problems. The results furthermore revealed that children of mothers reporting more depressive symptoms, children living in single-parent families, and children of families with lower SES scored higher in the emotional problems scale. When considering the different indicators of SES (parental education, occupational status, and monthly net income) separately, only income showed significant associations with children's emotional health status. The prevalence of emotional problems in children in Leipzig, a city in East Germany, appears to be higher than the previously reported German average. Maternal depressive symptoms, single-parent families, lower SES, and especially lower income can be seen as risk factors for children's emotional health.

Abstract
We explore time-resolved Coulomb explosion induced by intense, extreme ultraviolet (XUV) femtosecond pulses from a free-electron laser as a method to image photo-induced molecular dynamics in two molecules, iodomethane and 2,6-difluoroiodobenzene. At an excitation wavelength of 267 nm, the dominant reaction pathway in both molecules is neutral dissociation via cleavage of the carbon-iodine bond. This allows investigating the influence of the molecular environment on the absorption of an intense, femtosecond XUV pulse and the subsequent Coulomb explosion process. We find that the XUV probe pulse induces local inner-shell ionization of atomic iodine in dissociating iodomethane, in contrast to non-selective ionization of all photofragments in difluoroiodobenzene. The results reveal evidence of electron transfer from methyl and phenyl moieties to a multiply charged iodine ion. In addition, indications for ultrafast charge rearrangement on the phenyl radical are found, suggesting that time-resolved Coulomb explosion imaging is sensitive to the localization of charge in extended molecules.

Abstract
Schwefelunterversorgung war mit verringerter Milchleistung (p < 0,001), Retentio secundinarum (OR = 1,74; p = 0,037), Gebärparese (OR = 2,68; p < 0,001) und Stillbrunst (OR = 2,56; p = 0,014) assoziiert.

Abstract
Engineering a small diameter vascular graft with mechanical and biological properties comparable to living tissues remains challenging. Often, current devices lead to thrombosis and unsatisfactory long-term patency as a result of poor blood compatibility and a mismatch between the mechanical properties of the living tissue and the implanted biomaterial. Addressing all these requirements is essential to produce scaffolds able to survive throughout the life of the patient. For this purpose, we fabricated a novel three-layered vascular graft by combining electrospinning and braiding. Mirroring the structure of human blood vessels, the proposed device is composed of three layers: the intima, the media, and the adventitia. The intima and media layers were obtained by sequentially electrospinning silk fibroin (SF) and poly(L-lactide-co-ε-caprolactone), with ratios selected to match the mechanical properties of the native tissue. For the outer layer, the adventitia, SF yarns were braided on top of the electrospun tubes to create a structure able to withstand high pressures. Compliance, Young's modulus and deformability of the obtained scaffold were similar to that of human blood vessels. Additionally, cytocompatibility of the two layers, media and intima, was assessed in vitro by analysing cell metabolic activity and proliferation of endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells, respectively. Furthermore, heparin functionalization of the scaffolds led to improved anticoagulant properties upon incubation in whole blood. The obtained results indicate a potential application of the herewith designed three-layered construct as a vascular graft for small diameter blood vessel engineering.

Composition quantification of electron-transparent samples by backscattered electron imaging in scanning electron microscopy. Ultramicroscopy 2016; 173:71-75. Abstract
The contrast of backscattered electron (BSE) images in scanning electron microscopy (SEM) depends on material parameters which can be exploited for composition quantification if some information on the material system is available. As an example, the In-concentration in thin InxGa1-xAs layers embedded in a GaAs matrix is analyzed in this work. The spatial resolution of the technique is improved by using thin electron-transparent specimens instead of bulk samples. Although the BSEs are detected in a comparably small angular range by an annular semiconductor detector, the image intensity can be evaluated to determine the composition and local thickness of the specimen. The measured intensities are calibrated within one single image to eliminate the influence of the detection and amplification system. Quantification is performed by comparison of experimental and calculated data. Instead of using time-consuming Monte-Carlo simulations, an analytical model is applied for BSE-intensity calculations which considers single electron scattering and electron diffusion.
