Abstract
The prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is increasing globally, especially in elderly patients. Uremic cardiomyopathy is a common cardiovascular complication of CKD, characterized by left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), diastolic dysfunction, and fibrosis. Kisspeptins and their receptor, KISS1R, exert a pivotal influence on kidney pathophysiology and modulate age-related pathologies across various organ systems. KISS1R agonists, including kisspeptin-13 (KP-13), hold promise as novel therapeutic agents within age-related biological processes and kidney-related disorders. Our investigation aimed to elucidate the impact of KP-13 on the trajectory of CKD and uremic cardiomyopathy. Male Wistar rats (300-350 g) were randomized into four groups: (I) sham-operated, (II) 5/6 nephrectomy-induced CKD, (III) CKD subjected to a low dose of KP-13 (intraperitoneal 13 µg/day), and (IV) CKD treated with a higher KP-13 dose (intraperitoneal 26 µg/day). Treatments were administered daily from week 3 for 10 days. After 13 weeks, KP-13 increased systemic blood pressure, accentuating diastolic dysfunction's echocardiographic indicators and intensifying CKD-associated markers such as serum urea levels, glomerular hypertrophy, and tubular dilation. Notably, KP-13 did not exacerbate circulatory uremic toxin levels, renal inflammation, or fibrosis markers. In contrast, the higher KP-13 dose correlated with reduced posterior and anterior wall thickness, coupled with diminished cardiomyocyte cross-sectional areas and concurrent elevation of inflammatory (Il6, Tnf), fibrosis (Col1), and apoptosis markers (Bax/Bcl2) relative to the CKD group. In summary, KP-13's influence on CKD and uremic cardiomyopathy encompassed heightened blood pressure and potentially activated inflammatory and apoptotic pathways in the left ventricle.

Abstract
Numerous imaging techniques are available for observing and interrogating biological samples, and several of them can be used consecutively to enable correlative analysis of different image modalities with varying resolutions and the inclusion of structural or molecular information. Achieving accurate registration of multimodal images is essential for the correlative analysis process, but it remains a challenging computer vision task with no widely accepted solution. Moreover, supervised registration methods require annotated data produced by experts, which is limited. To address this challenge, we propose a general unsupervised pipeline for multimodal image registration using deep learning. We provide a comprehensive evaluation of the proposed pipeline versus the current state-of-the-art image registration and style transfer methods on four types of biological problems utilizing different microscopy modalities. We found that style transfer of modality domains paired with fully unsupervised training leads to comparable image registration accuracy to supervised methods and, most importantly, does not require human intervention.

Abstract
The efficient synthesis of novel estradiol-based A-ring-fused oxazole derivatives, which can be considered as benzoxazole-steroid domain-integrated hybrids containing a common benzene structural motif, is described. The target compounds were prepared from steroidal 2-aminophenol precursors by heterocycle formation or functional group interconversion (FGI) strategies. According to 2D projection-based t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding (t-SNE), the novel molecules were proved to represent a new chemical space among steroid drugs. They were characterized based on critical physicochemical parameters using in silico and experimental data. The performance of the compounds to inhibit cell proliferation was tested on four human cancer cell lines and non-cancerous cells. Further examinations were performed to reveal IC50 and lipophilic ligand efficiency (LLE) values, cancer cell selectivity, and apoptosis-triggering features. Pharmacological tests and LLE metric revealed that some derivatives, especially the 2-(4-ethylpiperazin-1-yl)oxazole derivative exhibit strong anticancer activity and trigger the apoptosis of cancer cells with relatively low promiscuity risk similarly to the structurally most closely-related and intensively studied anticancer agent, 2-methoxy-estradiol.

Abstract
Chronic kidney disease is a global health problem affecting 10% to 12% of the population. Uremic cardiomyopathy is often characterized by left ventricular hypertrophy, fibrosis, and diastolic dysfunction. Dysregulation of neuregulin-1β signaling in the heart is a known contributor to heart failure. The systemically administered recombinant human neuregulin-1β for 10 days in our 5/6 nephrectomy-induced model of chronic kidney disease alleviated the progression of uremic cardiomyopathy and kidney dysfunction in type 4 cardiorenal syndrome. The currently presented positive preclinical data warrant clinical studies to confirm the beneficial effects of recombinant human neuregulin-1β in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Abstract
Uremic cardiomyopathy is characterized by diastolic dysfunction, left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), and fibrosis. Dysregulation of the kisspeptin receptor (KISS1R)-mediated pathways are associated with the development of fibrosis in cancerous diseases. Here, we investigated the effects of the KISS1R antagonist peptide-234 (P234) on the development of uremic cardiomyopathy. Male Wistar rats (300-350 g) were randomized into four groups: (i) Sham, (ii) chronic kidney disease (CKD) induced by 5/6 nephrectomy, (iii) CKD treated with a lower dose of P234 (ip. 13 µg/day), (iv) CKD treated with a higher dose of P234 (ip. 26 µg/day). Treatments were administered daily from week 3 for 10 days. At week 13, the P234 administration did not influence the creatinine clearance and urinary protein excretion. However, the higher dose of P234 led to reduced anterior and posterior wall thicknesses, more severe interstitial fibrosis, and overexpression of genes associated with left ventricular remodeling (Ctgf, Tgfb, Col3a1, Mmp9), stretch (Nppa), and apoptosis (Bax, Bcl2, Casp7) compared to the CKD group. In contrast, no significant differences were found in the expressions of apoptosis-associated proteins between the groups. Our results suggest that the higher dose of P234 hastens the development and pathophysiology of uremic cardiomyopathy by activating the fibrotic TGF-β-mediated pathways.

Abstract
Despite the substantial impact of rivers on the global marine litter problem, riverine litter has been accorded inadequate consideration. Therefore, our objective was to detect riverine litter by utilizing middle-scale multispectral satellite images and machine learning (ML), with the Tisza River (Hungary) as a study area. The Very High Resolution (VHR) images obtained from the Google Earth database were employed to recognize some riverine litter spots (a blend of anthropogenic and natural substances). These litter spots served as the basis for training and validating five supervised machine-learning algorithms based on Sentinel-2 images [Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Support Vector Classifier (SVC), Random Forest (RF), Naïve Bays (NB) and Decision Tree (DT)]. To evaluate the generalization capability of the developed models, they were tested on larger unseen data under varying hydrological conditions and with different litter sizes. Besides the best-performing model was used to investigate the spatio-temporal variations of riverine litter in the Middel Tisza. According to the results, almost all the developed models showed favorable metrics based on the validation dataset (e.g., F1-score; SVC: 0.94, ANN: 0.93, RF: 0.91, DT: 0.90, and NB: 0.83); however, during the testing process, they showed medium (e.g., F1-score; RF:0.69, SVC: 0.62; ANN: 0.62) to poor performance (e.g., F1-score; NB: 0.48; DT: 0.45). The capability of all models to detect litter was bounded to the pixel size of the Sentinel-2 images. Based on the spatio-temporal investigation, hydraulic structures (e.g., Kisköre Dam) are the greatest litter accumulation spots. Although the highest transport rate of litter occurs during floods, the largest litter spot area upstream of the Kisköre Dam was observed at low stages in summer. This study represents a preliminary step in the automatic detection of riverine litter; therefore, additional research incorporating a larger dataset with more representative small litter spots, as well as finer spatial resolution images is necessary.

Abstract
Hydroxamic acids bearing an (O,O) donor set are well-known metal-chelating compounds with diverse biological activities including anticancer activity. Since steroid conjugation with a pharmacophoric moiety may have the potential to improve this effect, a salicylhydroxamic acid-estradiol hybrid molecule (E2HA) was synthesized. Only minimal effect of the conjugation on the proton dissociation constants was observed in comparison to salicylhydroxamic acid (SHA). The complexation with essential metal ions (iron, copper) was characterized, since E2HA may exert its cytotoxicity through the binding of these ions in cells. UV-visible spectrophotometric and pH-potentiometric titrations revealed the formation of high-stability complexes, while the Fe(III) preference over Fe(II) was proved by cyclic voltammetry and spectroelectrochemical measurements. Complex formation with half-sandwich Rh(III)(η5-Cp*) and Ru(II)(η6-p-cymene) organometallic cations was also studied as it may improve the anticancer effect and the pharmacokinetic profile of the ligand. At equimolar concentration the speciation is complicated because of the presence of mononuclear and binuclear complexes. The complexes readily react with small molecules e.g. glutathione, 1-methylimidazole and nucleosides, having major effect on solution speciation, namely mixed-ligand complex formation and ligand displacement occur. These processes serve as models for the interactions with biomolecules in the body. E2HA exerted moderate anticancer activity (IC50 = 25-59 μM) in the tested three human cancer cell lines (Colo205, Colo320 and MCF-7), while being non-toxic on non-cancerous MRC-5 cells. Meanwhile, SHA was inactive in the same cells. Complexation with half-sandwich Rh(III) and Ru(II) cations had only a minor improvement on the cytotoxic effect of E2HA.

Abstract
Despite the availabilty of imaging-based and mass-spectrometry-based methods for spatial proteomics, a key challenge remains connecting images with single-cell-resolution protein abundance measurements. Here, we introduce Deep Visual Proteomics (DVP), which combines artificial-intelligence-driven image analysis of cellular phenotypes with automated single-cell or single-nucleus laser microdissection and ultra-high-sensitivity mass spectrometry. DVP links protein abundance to complex cellular or subcellular phenotypes while preserving spatial context. By individually excising nuclei from cell culture, we classified distinct cell states with proteomic profiles defined by known and uncharacterized proteins. In an archived primary melanoma tissue, DVP identified spatially resolved proteome changes as normal melanocytes transition to fully invasive melanoma, revealing pathways that change in a spatial manner as cancer progresses, such as mRNA splicing dysregulation in metastatic vertical growth that coincides with reduced interferon signaling and antigen presentation. The ability of DVP to retain precise spatial proteomic information in the tissue context has implications for the molecular profiling of clinical samples. Deep Visual Proteomics combines machine learning, automated image analysis and single-cell proteomics.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Metabolic syndrome (MetS) refers to a cluster of co-existing cardio-metabolic risk factors, including visceral obesity, dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia with insulin resistance, and hypertension. As there is a close link between MetS and cardiovascular diseases, we aimed to investigate the sex-based differences in MetS-associated heart failure (HF) and cardiovascular response to regular exercise training (ET). METHODS High-fat diet-fed male and female APOB-100 transgenic (HFD/APOB-100, 3 months) mice were used as MetS models, and age- and sex-matched C57BL/6 wild-type mice on standard diet served as healthy controls (SD/WT). Both the SD/WT and HFD/APOB-100 mice were divided into sedentary and ET groups, the latter running on a treadmill (0.9 km/h) for 45 min 5 times per week for 7 months. At month 9, transthoracic echocardiography was performed to monitor cardiac function and morphology. At the termination of the experiment at month 10, blood was collected for serum low-density lipoprotein (LDL)- and high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol measurements and homeostatic assessment model for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) calculation. Cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and fibrosis were assessed by histology. Left ventricular expressions of selected genes associated with metabolism, inflammation, and stress response were investigated by qPCR. RESULTS Both HFD/APOB-100 males and females developed obesity and hypercholesterolemia; however, only males showed insulin resistance. ET did not change these metabolic parameters. HFD/APOB-100 males showed echocardiographic signs of mild HF with dilated ventricles and thinner walls, whereas females presented the beginning of left ventricular hypertrophy. In response to ET, SD/WT males developed increased left ventricular volumes, whereas females responded with physiologic hypertrophy. Exercise-trained HFD/APOB-100 males presented worsening HF with reduced ejection fraction; however, ET did not change the ejection fraction and reversed the echocardiographic signs of left ventricular hypertrophy in HFD/APOB-100 females. The left ventricular expression of the leptin receptor was higher in females than males in the SD/WT groups. Left ventricular expression levels of stress response-related genes were higher in the exercise-trained HFD/APOB-100 males and exercise-trained SD/WT females than exercise-trained SD/WT males. CONCLUSIONS HFD/APOB-100 mice showed sex-specific cardiovascular responses to MetS and ET; however, left ventricular gene expressions were similar between the groups except for leptin receptor and several stress response-related genes.

Abstract
Radiation-induced heart disease (RIHD) is a potential late side-effect of thoracic radiotherapy resulting in left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and fibrosis due to a complex pathomechanism leading to heart failure. Angiotensin-II receptor blockers (ARBs), including losartan, are frequently used to control heart failure of various etiologies. Preclinical evidence is lacking on the anti-remodeling effects of ARBs in RIHD, while the results of clinical studies are controversial. We aimed at investigating the effects of losartan in a rat model of RIHD. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were studied in three groups: (1) control, (2) radiotherapy (RT) only, (3) RT treated with losartan (per os 10 mg/kg/day), and were followed for 1, 3, or 15 weeks. At 15 weeks post-irradiation, losartan alleviated the echocardiographic and histological signs of LVH and fibrosis and reduced the overexpression of chymase, connective tissue growth factor, and transforming growth factor-beta in the myocardium measured by qPCR; likewise, the level of the SMAD2/3 protein determined by Western blot decreased. In both RT groups, the pro-survival phospho-AKT/AKT and the phospho-ERK1,2/ERK1,2 ratios were increased at week 15. The antiremodeling effects of losartan seem to be associated with the repression of chymase and several elements of the TGF-β/SMAD signaling pathway in our RIHD model.

Abstract
The hydrogen bond structure of water was examined by comparing the temperature dependent OH-stretching bands of water and aqueous NaClO4, KClO4, Na2SO4, and K2SO4 solutions. Results called attention to the role of cations on top of the importance of anions determining the emerging structure of a multi-layered system consisting single water rings or multi-ring water-clusters.

Abstract
Uremic cardiomyopathy is characterized by diastolic dysfunction (DD), left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), and fibrosis. Angiotensin-II plays a major role in the development of uremic cardiomyopathy via nitro-oxidative and inflammatory mechanisms. In heart failure, the beta-3 adrenergic receptor (β3-AR) is up-regulated and coupled to endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS)-mediated pathways, exerting antiremodeling effects. We aimed to compare the antiremodeling effects of the angiotensin-II receptor blocker losartan and the β3-AR agonist mirabegron in uremic cardiomyopathy. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) was induced by 5/6th nephrectomy in male Wistar rats. Five weeks later, rats were randomized into four groups: (1) sham-operated, (2) CKD, (3) losartan-treated (10 mg/kg/day) CKD, and (4) mirabegron-treated (10 mg/kg/day) CKD groups. At week 13, echocardiographic, histologic, laboratory, qRT-PCR, and Western blot measurements proved the development of uremic cardiomyopathy with DD, LVH, fibrosis, inflammation, and reduced eNOS levels, which were significantly ameliorated by losartan. However, mirabegron showed a tendency to decrease DD and fibrosis; but eNOS expression remained reduced. In uremic cardiomyopathy, β3-AR, sarcoplasmic reticulum ATPase (SERCA), and phospholamban levels did not change irrespective of treatments. Mirabegron reduced the angiotensin-II receptor 1 expression in uremic cardiomyopathy that might explain its mild antiremodeling effects despite the unchanged expression of the β3-AR.

Abstract
AbstractElectrooxidation of selected phenylethers was investigated (2-phenoxyethanol, anisole, o-nitrophenyl octyl ether, diphenylether, fenoxycarb) on platinum and glassy carbon electrodes. The chosen solvents were acetonitrile, dimethyl sulphoxide, 1-propanol and mesityl oxide. In acetonitrile, at around 2 V characteristic voltammetric peaks appeared for all compounds. In dimethyl sulphoxide and 1-propanol, no relevant peak appeared due to the high overlapping with solvent electrooxidation. During anodic oxidation of o-nitrophenyl octyl ether and fenoxycarb, a bimolecular reaction takes place predominantly. In mesityl oxide due to its unsaturated bond, identical behaviour was observed for majority of compounds and the differences between the two electrodes are also highlighted in the surface studies. The images made with the aid of an optical microscope showed the formation of islands of products for each substrate after deposition from mesityl oxide.

Abstract
Hybrid systems are often endowed with completely different and improved properties compared to their parent compounds. In order to extend the chemical space toward sterane-based molecular hybrids, a number of estradiol-derived benzoxazol-2-ones with combined aromatic rings were synthesized via the corresponding 2-aminophenol intermediates. 2-Aminoestradiol was first prepared from estrone by a two-step nitration/reduction sequence under mild reaction conditions. Subsequent reductive aminations with different arylaldehydes furnished secondary 2-aminoestradiol derivatives in good yields. The proton dissociation processes of the aminoestradiols were investigated in aqueous solution by UV-visible spectrophotometric titrations to reveal their actual chemical forms at physiological pH. The determined pK1 and pK2 values are attributed to the +NH3 or +NH2R and OH moieties, and both varied by the different R substituents of the amino group. Primary and secondary 2-aminoestradiols were next reacted with carbonyldiimidazole as a phosgene equivalent to introduce a carbonyl group with simultaneous ring-closure to give A-ring-fused oxazolone derivatives in high yields. The novel aminoestradiols and benzoxazolones were subjected to in vitro cytotoxicity analysis and were found to exert cancer cell specific activity. Estradiol–benzoxazolone hybrids with a common aromatic moiety were efficiently synthesized via primary and secondary aminophenol intermediates, and their anticancer activities were investigated.![]()

Abstract
The detailed assessment of fetal breathing movement (FBM) monitoring can be a pre-indicator of many critical cases in the third trimester of pregnancy. Standard 3D ultrasound monitoring is time-consuming for FBM detection. Therefore, this type of measurement is not common. The main goal of this research is to provide a comprehensive image about FBMs, which can also have potential for application in telemedicine. Fifty pregnancies were examined by phonography, and nearly 9000 FBMs were identified. In the case of male and female fetuses, 4740 and 3100 FBM episodes were detected, respectively. The measurements proved that FBMs are well detectable in the 20-30 Hz frequency band. For these episodes, an average duration of 1.008 ± 0.13 s (p < 0.03) was measured in the third trimester. The recorded material lasted for 16 h altogether. Based on these measurements, an accurate assessment of FBMs could be performed. The epochs can be divided into smaller-episode groups separated by shorter breaks. During the pregnancy, the rate of these breaks continuously decreases, and episode groups become more contiguous. However, there are significant differences between male and female fetuses. The proportion of the episodes which were classified into minimally 10-member episode groups was 19.7% for males and only 12.1% for females, even at the end of the third trimester. In terms of FBM detection, phonography offers a novel opportunity for long-term monitoring. Combined with cardiac diagnostic methods, it can be used for fetal activity assessment in the third trimester and make measurement appreciably easier than before.

Abstract
In our study, we examined the movement of two wild boars marked with GPS/GSM transmitters in city of Budapest. We hypothesised that: the wild boars do not leave the urban area (H1); the wild boars prefer places that are less disturbed by people, and which are rich in potential hiding places (H2); and their home ranges would be smaller than that of wild boars living in non-urban environment (H3). Based on our results, we accepted our first hypothesis, as the wild boars had not left the area of Budapest. However, we partly rejected our second hypothesis: the wild boars preferred urban areas that were forested and richly covered with vegetation; however, human presence therefore disturbance was also high in those areas. The home range sizes of both marked wild boar sows were remarkably smaller than those of the wild boars living in natural environment (H3). City habitat modification, e.g. clearing undergrowth vegetation, could result that wild boars cannot find any hiding places. The significant part of food sources will disappear with the elimination of these places. By eliminating the two main factors together could prevent wild boars finding their living conditions within the city.

Abstract
Electrooxidation of N,N’-diphenylguanidine (1,3-diphenylguanidine) was investigated in aprotic (acetonitrile, acetone, dimethyl sulfoxide, dimethyl formamide, propyleneoxide, nitromethane) and alcoholic (methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, 1-butanol, 1-pentanol, benzyl alcohol) non-aqueous solvents at platinum electrode with cyclic voltammetry. Its concentration was 5 mM in most cases. In acetonitrile and acetone a sharp voltammetric peak appeared around 1 V vs. reference and currents measured in the subsequent scans showed that the electrode fouled quickly. In dimethyl formamide, the anodic peak heights decreased slowly in the subsequent scans but in dimethyl sulfoxide weak deactivation could be observed both in smaller and in higher concentration. In alcohols, continuous deactivation could be also observed during electrooxidation of N,N’-diphenylguanidine. The permeability studies showed that the structure of the formed polymer films varied significantly according to the solvent used for electrodeposition.

Abstract
To facilitate analysis of spatial tissue phenotypes, we created an open-source tool package named ‘Spa-RQ’ for ‘Spatial tissue analysis: image Registration & Quantification’. Spa-RQ contains software for image registration (Spa-R) and quantitative analysis of DAB staining overlap (Spa-Q). It provides an easy-to-implement workflow for serial sectioning and staining as an alternative to multiplexed techniques. To demonstrate Spa-RQ’s applicability, we analysed the spatial aspects of oncogenic KRAS-related signalling activities in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Using Spa-R in conjunction with ImageJ/Fiji, we first performed annotation-guided tumour-by-tumour phenotyping using multiple signalling markers. This analysis showed histopathology-selective activation of PI3K/AKT and MAPK signalling in Kras mutant murine tumours, as well as high p38MAPK stress signalling in p53 null murine NSCLC. Subsequently, Spa-RQ was applied to measure the co-activation of MAPK, AKT, and their mutual effector mTOR pathway in individual tumours. Both murine and clinical NSCLC samples could be stratified into ‘MAPK/mTOR’, ‘AKT/mTOR’, and ‘Null’ signature subclasses, suggesting mutually exclusive MAPK and AKT signalling activities. Spa-RQ thus provides a robust and easy to use tool that can be employed to identify spatially-distributed tissue phenotypes.

Abstract
Taking advantage of the tunable conductivity of graphene under high terahertz (THz) electric field, a graphene-metal hybrid metamaterial consisting of an array of three adjoined orthogonally oriented split-ring resonators (SRRs) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated to show a maximum modulation depth of 23% in transmission when the THz peak field reaches 305 kV/cm. The transmission of the sample is dominated by the antisymmetric and symmetric resonant modes originating from the strong magneto-inductive and conductive coupling among the three SRRs, respectively. Numerical simulations and model calculations based on a coupled oscillator theory were performed to explain the modulation process. It is found that the graphene coating impairs the resonances by increasing the damping of the modes and decreasing the coupling between the SRRs whereas the strong THz field restores the resonances by decreasing the conductivity of graphene.

Abstract
Novel androstanopyrazoles have been efficiently synthesized from steroidal β-ketoaldehydes with different arylhydrazine hydrochlorides both under acidic and basic conditions. Knorr-type transformations of 16-hydroxymethylene-dehydroepiandrosterone containing its 1,3-dicarbonyl moiety on ring D, proved to be regioselective in pyridine at room temperature, while mixtures of regioisomers were obtained in acidic EtOH under reflux. Contrarily, the cyclocondensation reactions of 2-hydroxymethylene-dihydrotestosterone bearing its reactive functionalities on ring A, led to a mixture of pyrazole regioisomers in varying ratio depending on the applied medium. The regioisomeric distribution was found to depend on the electronic character of the substituent of the phenylhydrazine applied. After separating the related isomers by column chromatography, they were subjected to in vitro pharmacological studies to investigate their antiproliferative activities against three human breast malignant cell lines (MCF7, T47D, MDA-MB-231). Flow cytometry revealed that the most potent agents elicited a cell cycle disturbance on MDA-MB-231 and T47D cells.

Abstract
This article proposes a novel mathematical model of logical relationship among glyphs belonging to the same grapheme. Its research belongs to the computational paleography that is a field in the applied computer science. The proposed grapheme model is presented in four logical layers from bottom to up namely as Topology, Visual Identity, Phonetic, and Semantic Layer. In the Topology Layer, a unique glyph is defined by a set of topological properties. When trying to describe the logical relation of various glyphs, their topological properties must be examined in a higher layer framework so called Visual Identity Layer. In that layer, the glyphs of a single grapheme share some topological attributes in common. These common topological attributes form a main identity of a grapheme, which is called Common Identity template that is obtained by means of Supervised Learning method. The Phonetic Layer gives the sound values associated to the grapheme, and the Semantic Layer describes the usage of the grapheme in texts. Some potential implementations of the grapheme model are also presented.

Abstract
Novel ring D-condensed 2-pyrazolines in the Δ(5)-androstene series were efficiently synthesized from 16-dehydropregnenolone or its acetate with different arylhydrazines or methylhydrazine, respectively, under microwave irradiation. The reactions are assumed to occur via hydrazone intermediates, followed by intramolecular 1,4-addition leading to the fused heteroring stereoselectively with a 16α,17α-cis ring junction. The synthesized compounds were subjected to in vitro pharmacological studies of their antiproliferative activities against four human breast (MCF7, T47D, MDA-MB-231 and MDA-MB-361) and three cervical (HeLa, C33A and SiHA) malignant cell lines. Flow cytometry revealed that the most potent agent elicited a cell cycle disturbance.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cardiac biomarkers have a prominent role in the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction. AIM The aim of the authors was to study the diagnostic effectiveness of automated measurement of cardiac biomarkers. METHOD Myeloperoxidase, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, myoglobin, heart-type fatty acid binding protein, creatine kinase, creatine kinase MB, high-sensitivity troponin I and T were measured. RESULTS The high-sensitivity troponin I was the most effective (area under curve: 0.86; 95% confidence interval: 0.77-0.95; p<0.001) for the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction. Considering a critical value of 0.35 ng/mL, its sensitivity and specificity were 81%, and 74%, respectively. Combined evaluation of the high-sensitivity troponin T and I, chest pain, and the electrocardiogram gave the best results for separation of acute myocardial infarction from other diseases (correct classification in 62.5% and 98.9% of patients, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Until a more sensitive and specific cardiac biomarker becomes available, the best method for the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction is to evaluate electrocardiogram and biomarker concentration and to repeat them after 3-6 hours.

Abstract
The authors present diagnostic methods used in a young healthy person who had isolated aspartate aminotransferase elevation. Polyethylene glycol precipitation test, aspartate aminotransferase serum electrophoresis and immunofixation were performed for measuring the macro-aspartate aminotransferase. It was found that aspartate aminotransferase activity in the patient was almost completely eliminated after precipitation of immunoglobulins with polyethylene glycol. In addition, aspartate aminotransferase migrated in the control samples to the anode while in the patient towards the cathode. Finally, a wider and more intense staining band was visible in the region of immunoglobulin A in the patient sample on the immunofixation gel as compared to the control sample. The authors conclude that that increased aspartate aminotransferase activity was due to macro formation. The elevated level of immunoglobulin A and selective increase of polyclonal immunoglobulin A (κ and λ light chains) indicated that the macro format was created by immunoglobulin A bound to aspartate aminotransferase.

Abstract
This paper deals with two- and threefold weavings on Platonic polyhedral surfaces. Depending on the skewness of the weaving pattern with respect to the edges of the polyhedra, different numbers of closed strands are necessary in a complete weaving. The problem is present in basketry but can be addressed from the aspect of pure geometry (geodesics), graph theory (central circuits of 4-valent graphs) and even structural engineering (fastenings on a closed surface). Numbers of these strands are found to have a periodicity and symmetry, and, in some cases, this number can be predicted directly from the skewness of weaving. In this paper (i) a simple recursive method using symmetry operations is given to find the number of strands of cubic, octahedral and icosahedral weavings for cases where generic symmetry arguments fail; (ii) another simple method is presented to decide whether or not a single closed strand can run along the underlying Platonic without a turn (i.e. the linking number of the two edges of a strand is zero, and so the loop can be stretched to a circle without being twisted); and (iii) the linking number of individual strands in an alternate 'check' weaving pattern is determined.

Abstract
Introduction: The degree of glomerular filtration rate determines the stages of chronic renal disease and, therefore, knowledge on its estimation is essential. Aims: Two standardized creatinine based estimated glomerular filtration rate equations and five equations based on the immunoturbidimetric determination of cystatin C were compared. Methods: The distribution of the analytes and the equations, their relations, as well as the differences among the estimated glomerular filtration rates and their chronic kidney disease stages assignments were studied. Results: The equations based on cystatin C classified more patient into stage 1, while the creatinine based ones more into stages 2, 3 and 4. The equations published as Grubb1, Grubb2 and Larsson classified more patients while the equations created by Tan and Sjöström classified fewer into stage 5 compared to the creatinine based equations. The equations of Grubb1 and Grubb2 resulted in the most similar stage assignment. The occurence of stages between 3 and 5 was the lowest using the equation of Sjöström. Conclusions: The different equations for the estimation of glomerular filtration rate modify significantly the chronic kidney disease stage assignment which may have an influence on the treatment and outcome measures of the patients. Abstract
The paper presents a novel screening method to indicate congenital heart diseases (CHD) which otherwise would remain undetected because of their low level. Therefore, not belonging to the high-risk population, they are omitted from the regular fetal monitoring with ultrasound echocardiography. Based on the fact that CHDs are morphological defects of the heart causing turbulent blood flow, this turbulence appears as a murmur, which can be detected by phonocardiography (PCG). The proposed method applies measurements on the maternal abdomen and from the recorded sound signal a sophisticated processing determines the fetal heart murmur. The paper describes the problems and the additional advantages of the PCG method including the possibility of measurements at home and its combination with the prescribed regular cardiotocographic (CTG) monitoring. The proposed screening process implemented on a telemedicine system provides an enhanced safety against hidden cardiac diseases.

Abstract
An infinite series of twofold, two-way weavings of the cube, corresponding to ‘wrappings’, or double covers of the cube, is described with the aid of the two-parameter Goldberg–Coxeter construction. The strands of all such wrappings correspond to the central circuits (CCs) of octahedrites (four-regular polyhedral graphs with square and triangular faces), which for the cube necessarily have octahedral symmetry. Removing the symmetry constraint leads to wrappings of other eight-vertex convex polyhedra. Moreover, wrappings of convex polyhedra with fewer vertices can be generated by generalizing from octahedrites to
i
-hedrites, which additionally include digonal faces. When the strands of a wrapping correspond to the CCs of a four-regular graph that includes faces of size greater than 4, non-convex ‘crinkled’ wrappings are generated. The various generalizations have implications for activities as diverse as the construction of woven-closed baskets and the manufacture of advanced composite components of complex geometry.

Abstract
A large proportion of congenital heart diseases (CHD) remain undetected during pregnancy or even after birth. Many of them generate turbulent blood flow, resulting heart murmur. Doppler ultrasound cardiotocography (CTG) is suitable for the assessment of the fetal heart rate and some derived parameters, but it is inadequate for detecting heart murmurs. Although comprehensive examination can be carried out with echocardiography, it is expensive and requires expertise; therefore, it is not applicable for widespread screening. This paper presents a new possibility for screening for some CHDs using phonocardiography, which can be combined with Doppler ultrasound CTG as an extension of it. Furthermore it can be carried out at home allowing repeated measurements, which increases also the reliability of filtering out innocent murmurs. The diagnostic capability of this screening method is supported by a large number of evaluated fetal heart sound records. Moreover, according to experiences pregnant women prefer this reliable, easy to use method, which facilitates their examination.

Abstract
The paper presents an overview of the 15 year long development of fetal phonocardiography including the works on the applied signal processing methods for identification of sound components. Based on the improvements achieved on this field, the paper shows that beyond the traditional CTG test the phonocardiography may be successfully applied for long-term fetal measurements and home monitoring. In addition, by indication of heart murmurs based on a comprehensive analysis of the recorded heart sound congenital heart defects can also be detected together with additional features in the third trimester. This makes an early widespread screening possible combined with the prescribed CTG test even at home using a telemedicine system.

Abstract
The purpose of this article is to describe a new, phonocardiography-based fetal telemonitoring system, which, due to its passive nature, allows long-term measurements even at the home of the pregnant woman. The input element of the system was the home monitor with two sensors for recording the trans-abdominal fetal heart signal and the uterine contractions. The recorded signal was transmitted by mobile network and Internet to an Evaluation Center, where it was analyzed in detail to obtain information about possible dysfunction of the fetal heart. The investigations on this system made clear that by advanced processing of the recorded signal the system captured many additional cardiac features compared with the traditional ultrasound-based cardiotocographic procedure.

Abstract
The article presents a comparison of fairness properties of different congestion control schemes. It is hard to investigate the various protocol mechanisms implemented in transport protocols; therefore a simulator called SimCast is developed for the analysis of fairness characteristics of transport protocols as well as a network traffic generator and measurement tool called SimTest. This article presents the operation and basic properties of these evaluation systems together with some simulation and measurement results. The article also presents a fairness based bandwidth control mechanism, called the Balancer method, which optimizes resource allocation of busy servers with large amount of outgoing traffic. The efficiency of this control method is presented through simulation results.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Biopsychosocial models for both organic and functional gastrointestinal (GI) disorders have been described in the recent literature. The objective of this study was to give further data to this model by assessing stressful life events, social support, psychopathological symptoms, and dysfunctional attitudes in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and healthy subjects. METHOD Age- and gender-matched IBS and IBD patients presenting at a tertiary care gastroenterological center completed self-reported questionnaires on stressful life events, social support, depressive and anxiety symptoms and dysfunctional attitudes. For comparative purposes, data from an age- and gender-matched healthy control group were obtained. RESULTS No significant differences were found between the groups regarding stressful life events and social support. Both patient groups had higher depressive and anxiety symptoms compared to healthy subjects, and IBS patients had higher depressive scores compared to IBD patients. IBS patients had more dysfunctional attitudes compared to both IBD and healthy subjects, while IBD and healthy subjects did not differ on dysfunctional attitudes. CONCLUSIONS GI patient status is associated with depressive and anxiety symptoms, in addition IBS patients have more severe depressive symptoms and depressogenic dysfunctional attitudes. The fact that functional GI patients are characterized by more severe psychological, but not social parameters, supports the hypothesis that IBS might be related to the range of depressive disorders.

Abstract
Atrophic rhinitis (AR) is a widespread and economically important disease of swine caused by Bordetella bronchiseptica and Pasteurella multocida. It can be controlled by vaccination. This study investigates the effect of altering the composition (adjuvants and/or addition of formalin-inactivated P. multocida toxin, fPMT) of conventional vaccines on the serological profile and on protection against AR in swine. A significantly higher B. bronchiseptica specific antibody titre was detected for vaccines with novel immunostimulants, the best being Montanide IMS 1313 (1:630 compared to 1:274 obtained with alum). The highest B. bronchiseptica antibody titre was demonstrated for a combination of B. bronchiseptica--fPMT, while PMT antibody titre was highest for monovalent fPMT (both adjuvanted with IMS 1313). The AR-specific antibodies were transmitted from dams to their offspring in similar titres and with the same hierarchy of effectiveness. After a B. bronchiseptica--P. multocida bacterial challenge, piglets from dams vaccinated with fPMT combined with B. bronchiseptica or B. bronchiseptica--P. multocida bacterins showed the lowest nasal lesions scores (4.5 and 3.2, respectively, out of a possible maximum score of 18). These combinations, both of which were adjuvanted with IMS 1313, gave the best protection against experimentally induced AR. Our results show that the adjuvant and the antigen composition of the vaccine strongly affect seroconversion, and that the AR-specific antibody titre does not necessarily correlate with the degree of protection.

Abstract
The phonocardiographic monitoring of fetal heart activity due to its passive nature enables extremely long measuring times providing thus the possibility of fetal breathing recovery. The long monitoring time is required because of the temporary appearing of breathing movement. However, the long measurement time and consequently the large amount of data to be transmitted to the hospital's computer centre may be costly on mobile phone network. To keep monitoring costs low an appropriate data compression should be applied assuring the transmission of all important features of the detected acoustic signal. The present work summarizes the results of the extension of the novel telemedicine system with measurement of breathing periodicity and the achieved compression level of acquisited data. The Golomb-Rice compression is applied for lossless transmission of the segmented beat cycles considering the importance of the given segments in order to obtain the most accurate transfer of beat-to-beat time and all irregular heart sounds.

Abstract
A novel compact method for fetal home monitoring optimized for long data acquisition time has already been presented. The method involves preprocessing a disturbed acoustic signal received on the maternal abdomen. The present work summarizes phenomena encountered during analysis of the incoming PCG signal, and describes further improvements made to the analysis system already in use including the application of the MP method to determining heartbeat lengths and identifying murmurs between heart sounds.

Abstract
The effect of nursing method and ingestion of maternal faeces on the development of the bacteroides, lactobacillus and coliform flora of the caecum in the first 10 days of life were examined in freely nursed pups having access to maternal faeces (Group FF), pups nursed once a day and having access (Group CF), or having no access (Group CN) to maternal faeces. Colonisation of the caecum by Bacteroides commenced already on day 3 after birth. On day 2 the bacteroides counts were below 100, while on day 4 they were already between 100 and 10,000. In Group CN, the Bacteroides counts were lower (by 14 to 40%) throughout the 10-day period studied than in the groups having access to maternal faeces. Differences between groups were significant only on days 4 and 6. The average number of maternal faecal pellets left behind the doe in Group CN was 3-4 (between 0.5 and 6.4 per doe). In Groups FF and CF the pellets became smaller, crumbled and finally disappeared from the nest box, they were consumed by the pups and could be found in their gastric content. The lactobacillus counts decreased in all three groups with age, from 6.0 to 3.5 log10 CFU.g-1 (FF), 4.6 to 2.8 log10 CFU.g-1 (CF) and 5.1 to 3.1 log10 CFU.g-1 (CN), respectively. The coliform counts were higher in the first 4 days in FF (5.6 log10 CFU.g-1) than in CF (< 2 log10 CFU.g-1) and CN (2-3.6 log10 CFU.g-1) animals. Bacteroides could be cultured from the surface of the vulvar labia (max. 1000 colony count) and the vagina (max. 190 colony count), so young rabbits could become "infected" by them already in the doe's vagina. Thus prevention of ingestion of maternal faeces only slightly influenced the development of the bacteroides flora, the faeces left behind by the doe did not play an exclusive role in their colonisation.
