Abstract
Objective. We introduce a robust image reconstruction algorithm named residual-guided Golub-Kahan iterative reconstruction technique (RGIRT) designed for sparse-view computed tomography (CT), which aims at high-fidelity image reconstruction from a limited number of projection views.Approach. RGIRT utilizes an inner-outer dual iteration framework, with a flexible least square QR (FLSQR) algorithm implemented in the inner iteration and a restarted iterative scheme applied in the outer iteration. The inner FLSQR employs a flexible Golub-Kahan bidiagonalization method to reduce the size of the inverse problem, and a weighted generalized cross-validation method to adaptively estimate the regularization hyper-parameter. The inner iteration efficiently yields the intermediate reconstruction result, while the outer iteration minimizes the residual and refines the solution by using the result obtained from the inner iteration.Main results. The reconstruction performance of RGIRT is evaluated and compared to other reference methods (FBPConvNet, SART-TV, and FLSQR) using projection data from both numerical phantoms and real experimental Micro-CT data. The experimental findings, from testing various numbers of projection views and different noise levels, underscore the robustness of RGIRT. Meanwhile, theoretical analysis confirms the convergence of residual for our approach.Significance. We propose a robust iterative reconstruction algorithm for x-ray CT scans with sparse views, thereby shortening scanning time and mitigating excessive ionizing radiation exposure to small animals.

Abstract
With the application of encoders in artificial intelligence and aerospace, the demand for the miniaturization and high measurement accuracy of encoders is increasing. To solve this problem, a new absolute matrix encoder is proposed in this paper, which can realize 19-bit matrix coding by engraving two circles of matrix code, and has the advantages of fewer circles of code disk engraving and higher measurement accuracy. This article mainly focuses on the design of a new matrix code disk, encoding and decoding methods, decoding circuit design, Matlab simulation analysis, and experimental error analysis. The experimental results show that the encoder designed in this paper achieves ultra-small volume Φ30 mm × 20 mm, and the angle measurement accuracy is 2.57".

Abstract
A study was conducted on rural women of childbearing age aged 20-49 who underwent the National Free Preconception Health Examination Project (NFPHEP)in Yunnan Province from 2013 to 2019. Descriptive analysis was conducted to determine the negative rate of IgG antibodies against the rubella virus and its differences among various socio-demographic characteristics. Among the 1 511 203 study subjects, the negative rate of IgG antibodies against the rubella virus was 24.36%. Only 2.64% of the population had received rubella virus vaccine. The negative rate of IgG antibodies among rural childbearing-age women in the preconception period in Yunnan Province decreased with age and educational level (Ptrend<0.001). The negative rate of IgG antibodies in ethnic minority women of childbearing age in the preconception period (25.19%) was higher than that of Han women (23.88%). Among the 22 ethnic groups with over 1 000 participants, the negative rates of IgG antibodies in women of childbearing age from the Blang (32.85%), Bouyei (31.03%), Zhuang (31.01%), and Miao (30.70%) ethnic groups were higher than those of women from other ethnic groups. Among the 16 states (cities) in Yunnan Province, the negative rate of IgG antibodies in pregnant women of childbearing age in Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture (38.06%) and Lincang City (32.63%) was higher than that in other states (cities). The negative rate of serum IgG antibodies in women who reported having received rubella virus vaccine (18.60%) was lower than that in other non-vaccinated populations (24.52%). The proportion of rural women of childbearing age in Yunnan Province who were susceptible to the rubella virus before pregnancy was still high. It is necessary to promote rubella vaccination among people susceptible to rubella, especially pregnant women, to prevent rubella virus infection and reduce the incidence rate and disease burden of rubella people.

Emergence of Spinons in Layered Trimer Iridate Ba_{4}Ir_{3}O_{10}. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2022; 129:207201. Abstract
Spinons are well known as the elementary excitations of one-dimensional antiferromagnetic chains, but means to realize spinons in higher dimensions is the subject of intense research. Here, we use resonant x-ray scattering to study the layered trimer iridate Ba_{4}Ir_{3}O_{10}, which shows no magnetic order down to 0.2 K. An emergent one-dimensional spinon continuum is observed that can be well described by XXZ spin-1/2 chains with a magnetic exchange of ∼55 meV and a small Ising-like anisotropy. With 2% isovalent Sr doping, magnetic order appears below T_{N}=130 K along with sharper excitations in (Ba_{1-x}Sr_{x})_{4}Ir_{3}O_{10}. Combining our data with exact diagonalization calculations, we find that the frustrated intratrimer interactions effectively reduce the system into decoupled spin chains, the subtle balance of which can be easily tipped by perturbations such as chemical doping. Our results put Ba_{4}Ir_{3}O_{10} between the one-dimensional chain and two-dimensional quantum spin liquid scenarios, illustrating a new way to suppress magnetic order and realize fractional spinons.

Isometric spiracular scaling in scarab beetles: implications for diffusive and advective oxygen transport. eLife 2022; 11:82129. Abstract
The scaling of respiratory structures has been hypothesized to be a major driving factor in the evolution of many aspects of animal physiology. Here, we provide the first assessment of the scaling of the spiracles in insects using 10 scarab beetle species differing 180× in mass, including some of the most massive extant insect species. Using X-ray microtomography, we measured the cross-sectional area and depth of all eight spiracles, enabling the calculation of their diffusive and advective capacities. Each of these metrics scaled with geometric isometry. Because diffusive capacities scale with lower slopes than metabolic rates, the largest beetles measured require 10-fold higher PO2 gradients across the spiracles to sustain metabolism by diffusion compared to the smallest species. Large beetles can exchange sufficient oxygen for resting metabolism by diffusion across the spiracles, but not during flight. In contrast, spiracular advective capacities scale similarly or more steeply than metabolic rates, so spiracular advective capacities should match or exceed respiratory demands in the largest beetles. These data illustrate a general principle of gas exchange: scaling of respiratory transport structures with geometric isometry diminishes the potential for diffusive gas exchange but enhances advective capacities; combining such structural scaling with muscle-driven ventilation allows larger animals to achieve high metabolic rates when active.

Abstract
To investigate the relationships between financial constraints, government subsidies, and corporate innovation, a semi-logarithmic fixed-effect panel model and mediation effect test were applied, based on the data of Chinese listed companies from 2007 to 2017. We find that (1) financial constraints suppress corporate innovation. (2) Government subsidies are targeted at bailing out firms facing financial constraints. (3) Government subsidies promote corporate innovation (4) Government subsidies partially offset the suppression of financial constraints on innovation. We contribute to the fields of public finance, corporate finance, and corporate innovation by: (1) justifying the government subsidies target strategy as a bailout of corporate financial constraints, (2) verifying the corporate-innovation promotion of government subsidies, thus justifying the efficiency of government subsidies, and (3) showing that different types of innovation benefit differently from subsidies, thus justifying subsidies as a structural innovation engine.

Abstract
The fabrication by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) of bulk high entropy ceramics from powders obtained by Self-propagating High temperature Synthesis (SHS) is addressed in this work. The effect produced by the introduction of 1 wt.% of graphite to the powders before SPS is investigated under different temperature conditions. The final density and composition of sintered (Hf0.2Mo0.2Zr0.2Ti0.2Ta0.2)B2 and (Hf0.2Mo0.2Zr0.2Ti0.2Nb0.2)B2 ceramics are found to be negatively affected by the presence of oxide impurities in the powders. While product composition can be progressively improved when the temperature is increased from 1800 to 1950 °C, residual porosities remain relatively high if using additive-free powders. In contrast, the introduction of 1 wt.%C markedly allows for oxides elimination by carbothermal reduction mechanism. Products consolidation is correspondingly enhanced so that relative densities of about 97% are attained. Other than the latter effect, surface oxides removal also makes powders more reactive, thus the synthesis of single-phase products is promoted. In particular, fully homogeneous (Hf0.2Mo0.2Zr0.2Ti0.2Ta0.2)B2 ceramics are obtained at relatively lower temperature conditions (1850 °C).

Abstract
Software-based methods can improve CT spatial resolution without changing the hardware of the scanner or increasing the radiation dose to the object. In this work, we aim to develop a deep learning (DL) based CT super-resolution (SR) method that can reconstruct low-resolution (LR) sinograms into high-resolution (HR) CT images. We mathematically analyzed imaging processes in the CT SR imaging problem and synergistically integrated the SR model in the sinogram domain and the deblur model in the image domain into a hybrid model (SADIR). SADIR incorporates the CT domain knowledge and is unrolled into a DL network (SADIR-Net). The SADIR-Net is a self-supervised network, which can be trained and tested with a single sinogram. SADIR-Net was evaluated through SR CT imaging of a Catphan700 physical phantom and a real porcine phantom, and its performance was compared to the other state-of-the-art (SotA) DL-based CT SR methods. On both phantoms, SADIR-Net obtains the highest information fidelity criterion (IFC), structure similarity index (SSIM), and lowest root-mean-square-error (RMSE). As to the modulation transfer function (MTF), SADIR-Net also obtains the best result and improves the MTF50% by 69.2% and MTF10% by 69.5% compared with FBP. Alternatively, the spatial resolutions at MTF50% and MTF10% from SADIR-Net can reach 91.3% and 89.3% of the counterparts reconstructed from the HR sinogram with FBP. The results show that SADIR-Net can provide performance comparable to the other SotA methods for CT SR reconstruction, especially in the case of extremely limited training data or even no data at all. Thus, the SADIR method could find use in improving CT resolution without changing the hardware of the scanner or increasing the radiation dose to the object.

Abstract
Itaconic acid is an unsaturated dicarbonic acid. It has a wide range of applications in the industrial production of resins and is also a mediator of immunometabolism in macrophages. Here, we show a previously unrecognized role of itaconic acid in triggering ferroptosis, a form of iron-dependent cell death driven by lipid peroxidation. We found that supraphysiological itaconic acid dose-dependently induces ferroptosis, rather than apoptosis, in human cancer cell lines. Mechanistically, we determined that itaconic acid activates NOCA4-mediated ferritinophagy, which leads to ferroptosis through ferritin degradation and subsequent iron overload and oxidative damage. In contrast, itaconic acid-induced expression and activation of NFE2L2 serves as a defense mechanism to limit ferroptosis by producing antioxidant genes. Consequently, impaired NCOA4 expression prevented, whereas a disrupted NFE2L2 pathway enhanced, sensitivity to itaconic acid-induced ferroptosis in vitro and in xenograft models. These findings establish a dynamic model of metabolite-induced ferroptotic cancer cell death, which may contribute to the development of new targeted therapies.

Influence of surgical team activity on airborne bacterial distribution in the operating room with a mixing ventilation system: a case study at St. Olavs Hospital. J Hosp Infect 2021; 116:91-98. Abstract
BACKGROUND Operating rooms (ORs) have strict requirements regarding cleanliness. While existing standards concerning the ventilation and staff guidelines are theoretically sufficient to subvert the threats posed by micro-organisms within the room, there exist potential sources of contamination due to human activity around the area. Studies exploring this influence of human activity on distribution of micro-organism contamination in ORs have relied on manual observations, or indirect methods such as number of door openings. AIM To utilize depth registration sensing technology to identify the activities of surgical staff and investigate their effect on the distribution of airborne micro-organism contamination in ORs. METHODS A mock surgical experiment was performed using a depth registration technique for the dynamic capturing of human presence and activity levels. Field measurements were carried out in one real OR to analyse its influence on the bacterial distribution in ORs with mixing ventilation system. FINDINGS Bacterial contamination levels tended to correlate with higher activity levels, albeit with some inconsistencies. The highest activity levels were around the surgical bed when the patient was placed, and around the instrument table during the surgical procedure. Locations with obstructions had the highest cfu densities, indicating that airflow patterns are important in such spaces. CONCLUSION Our activity monitoring methods demonstrate a novel means of studying the influences of human activities in hospital rooms.

There were 15 males and 8 females with a mean age of (62±9) years. The clinical efficacy was evaluated according to the modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (mRECRST), and treatment-related adverse events were analyzed after treatment. Results: All the patients received D-TACE therapy with an average of (2.6±1.0) times, TACE-refractory tumor was observed in 7 patients, and distant metastasis was seen in 6 patients. The objective response rates after combined treatment of 1 month and 3 months were 47.8% and 60.9%, respectively. Disease control rate (DCR) was 73.9% and 78.3%, respectively; median progression-free survival (mPFS) was 126 days. Among 18 patients with alpha fatoprotein (AFP)>200 μg/L, the values before and after treatment of 2 months was (497±117) μg/L and (80±19) μg/L, respectively (P<0.05). Among 9 patients of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)>142.2 ng/L, the values before and after treatment of 2 months was (154±51) ng/L and (57±19) ng/L, respectively (P<0.05). The incidence of treatment-related adverse events was 87.0% (20/23). All adverse reactions did not exceed grade 3 and could be controlled by symptomatic supportive treatment or reducing the dose of apatinib, and the serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) level after treatment of 3 months[(77±33) U/L] was higher than that before treatment [(45±26) U/L] (P<0.05). Conclusion: For patients with advanced liver cancer after D-TACE, the treatment of carrelizumab combined with apatinib is effective and the adverse reactions are controllable.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Thymosin beta 4 (TB4) is the most abundant member of the beta-thymosin family in humans. The main physiological role of TB4 is the regulation of actin polymerization. TB4 is also involved in angiogenesis, cell survival, cell migration and fetal development. The aim of this study was to evaluate the activity of TB4 as a fetal growth promoter when administered during pregnancy. MATERIALS AND METHODS Our protocols have been carried out in full conformity with the rules and guidelines expected for this kind of trial. 10 pregnant mice received the same injection regimen. Only 6 of these 10 are part of this experiment because they were pregnant. At 10:00 a.m. on day E14 and E17 of gestation mice were weighed and treated with an intraperitoneal injection of TB4 (Regene RX, Rockville, MD, USA; 6 mg/kg in PBS). RESULTS The mothers treated with TB4 for two days precisely E14 and E17, showed a higher cranio-caudal length when compared to control newborns. At histology, maternal TB4 treatment was associated with more advanced development of lungs, heart, kidney, cerebral cortex and notochord. CONCLUSIONS Our study shows that TB4 administration during gestation may act as a powerful fetal growth promoter, by accelerating the development of newborn organs and tissues.

Screening potential topological insulators in half-Heusler compounds via compressed-sensing. JOURNAL OF PHYSICS. CONDENSED MATTER : AN INSTITUTE OF PHYSICS JOURNAL 2021; 33:325501. Abstract
Ternary half-Heusler compounds with widely tunable electronic structures, present a new platform to discover topological insulators (TIs). Due to time-consuming computations and synthesis procedures, the identification of new TIs is however a rough task. Here, we adopt a compressed-sensing approach to rapidly screen potential TIs in half-Heusler family, which is realized via a two-dimensional descriptor that only depends on the fundamental properties of the constituent atoms. Beyond the finite training data, the proposed descriptor is employed to screen many new half-Heusler compounds, including those with integer and fractional stoichiometry, and a larger number of possible TIs are predicted.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to combine two fraud-related streams of the literature on guanxi and overconfidence into an integrated framework, which is the fraud triangle, to interpret the mechanism of fraud commission and detection.
Design/methodology/approach
A bivariate probit model with Partial Observability (POBi Probit) is applied. Moreover, the POBi Probit model is adjusted to the Chinese context. The China-specific POBi Probit model is constructed using data of Chinese A-share listed companies from 2008 to 2014, with a total of 15,109 firm-year observations.
Findings
Overconfidence induces fraud commission and worsens fraud detection; overconfidence mediates the relationship between fraud and guanxi; the “white side” of guanxi comes from alumni networks, while the “dark side” is derived from relatives-based networks; overconfidence induces fraud commission in accounting and disclosure and benefits the detection of disclosure frauds. Guanxi suppresses fraud commission in management and disclosure, however, it worsens fraud detection given fraud in management and disclosure; overconfidence induces fraud commission in both state-owned enterprises (SOE) and non-SOEs, and benefits fraud detection in SOEs. Guanxi suppresses fraud commission and worsens fraud detection in SOEs and city-owned firms.
Research limitations/implications
There are two drawbacks of the partial observable bivariate probit (POBi-Probit) method that must be mentioned here. On one hand, the ex ante variable selection is one of the most difficult parts of applying the POBi-Probit model and different variables are included in different studies. On the other hand, the POBi-Probit model might not converge if too many variables are included. Thus, many widely accepted factors can be included in the model. Thus, this study initially sets the POBi-Probit model based mainly on Khanna et al. (2015) and then adjusts the model for the Chinese context (e. g. considering government ownership) according to Yiu et al. (2018) and Zhang (2018) and the local study of Meng et al. (2019). Considering the observability of fraud, on one hand, the observability of fraud commission is a widely accepted limitation, especially when accounting opacity comes across with regulatory efficiency (Yiu et al. (2018). On the other hand, the observability of relationships is another obstacle to this study. Future studies can go further by revealing the presently unobservable relationships using Big Data technology.
Originality/value
This paper theoretically and practically contributes to the literature on both corporate fraud and corporate governance. Theoretically, by introducing integrated principal-agent resource-reliance theory (IPRT) and upper echelon theory (UET), this paper broadens the framework of fraud triangle theory (FTT) and testifies the availability of the broaden FTT in the transitional and emerging-market context of China. Practically, this paper provides evidence that guanxi and overconfidence are two of the factors affecting corporate fraud. Thus, this paper provides a governance approach opposing corporate fraud in China, which may help the other emerging economies in transition.

Ventilation design conditions associated with airborne bacteria levels within the wound area during surgical procedures: a systematic review. J Hosp Infect 2021; 113:85-95. [PMID: 33930488 DOI: 10.1016/j.jhin.2021.04.022] [Citation(s) in RCA: 9] [Impact Index Per Article: 3.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 02/23/2021] [Accepted: 04/21/2021] [Indexed: 11/30/2022]
Abstract
BACKGROUND Without confirmation of the ventilation design conditions (typology and airflow rate), the common practice of identifying unidirectional airflow (UDAF) systems as equivalent to ultra-clean air ventilation systems may be misleading, but also any claims about the ineffectiveness of UDAF systems should be doubted. The aim of this review was to assess and compare ventilation system design conditions for which ultra-clean air (mean <10 cfu/m3) within 50 cm from the wound has been reported. Six medical databases were systematically searched to identify and select studies reporting intraoperative airborne levels expressed as cfu/m3 close to the wound site, and ventilation system design conditions. Available data on confounding factors such as the number of persons present in the operating room, number of door openings, and clothing material were also included. Predictors for achieving mean airborne bacteria levels within <10 cfu/m3 were identified using a penalized multivariate logistic regression model. Twelve studies met the eligibility criteria and were included for analysis. UDAF systems considered had significantly higher air volume flows compared with turbulent ventilation (TV) systems considered. Ultra-clean environments were reported in all UDAF-ventilated (N = 7) rooms compared with four of 11 operating rooms equipped with TV. On multivariate analysis, the total number of air exchange rates (P=0.019; odds ratio (OR) 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.66-0.96) and type of clothing material (P=0.031; OR 95% CI: 0.01-0.71) were significantly associated with achieving mean levels of airborne bacteria <10 cfu/m3. High-volume UDAF systems complying with DIN 1946-4:2008 standards for the airflow rate and ceiling diffuser size unconditionally achieve ultra-clean air close to the wound site. In conclusion, the studied articles demonstrate that high-volume UDAF systems perform as ultra-clean air systems and are superior to TV systems in reducing airborne bacteria levels close to the wound site.

Abstract
In aircraft manufacturing, the vertical accuracy of connection holes is important indicator of the quality of holes making. Aircraft products have high requirements for the vertical accuracy of holes positions. When drilling and riveting are performed by an automatic robotic system, assembly errors, bumps, offsets and other adverse conditions, can affects the accuracy of manufacturing and detection, and in turn the fatigue performance of the entire structure. To solve this problem, we proposed a technology for detecting the normal-direction based on the adaptive alignment method, built a mathematical model for posture alignment, and studied the calibration method and mechanism of the detection device. Additionally, we investigated techniques for error compensation using an electronic theodolite and other devices when the adaptive method is used for detection. In verification experiments of the method, multiple sets of results demonstrated that the key technical indicators are as follows: normal accuracy <0.5°, average deviation after correction =0.0667°. This method can effectively compensate the errors affecting hole making work in automated manufacturing, and further improve the positioning accuracy and normal-direction detection accuracy of the robot.

Abstract
A simple variational argument is presented which indicates that the spin-orbit coupling in itinerant systems can be enhanced by strong electronic correlations. The importance of the enhancement in the formation of the giant magnetic anisotropy found in the metallic paramagnetic and magnetically ordered states of compounds containing transition metal and light actinide elements (such as tetragonal Sr2RhO4, Sr2IrO4, the cubic uranium monochalcogenides and tetragonal URu2Si2) is discussed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The importance of circular RNAs in malignant tumors causes more attention in researchers. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most ordinary malignant tumors. Hsa_circ_0000285 was explored to identify how it functions in the metastasis of HCC. PATIENTS AND METHODS Real Time-quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-qPCR) was utilized to detect hsa_circ_0000285 expression in HCC patients' tissues. Hsa_circ_0000285 lentivirus and shRNA was constructed for the transfection of HCC cells. Wound healing assay, transwell assay, and Matrigel assay were conducted to identify the function of hsa_circ_0000285 in HCC cells. Furthermore, mechanism assays were performed to uncover the interaction between hsa_circ_0000285 and miR-599. RESULTS Hsa_circ_0000285 was significantly higher-expressed in HCC samples compared to that in adjacent samples. The migrated length of HCC cells was reduced after hsa_circ_0000285 was silenced, while the migrated length of HCC cells was increased after hsa_circ_0000285 was overexpressed. Moreover, the number of migrated and invaded HCC cells was reduced after hsa_circ_0000285 was silenced, while the number of migrated and invaded HCC cells was increased after hsa_circ_0000285 was overexpressed. Moreover, RT-qPCR results revealed that miR-599 was downregulated via overexpression of hsa_circ_0000285, while miR-599 was upregulated via knockdown of hsa_circ_0000285. Further experiments showed that miR-599 was a direct target of hsa_circ_0000285 in HCC. CONCLUSIONS Hsa_circ_0000285 could enhance cell metastasis of HCC by targeting miR-599 and might be a potential therapeutic target in HCC.

Possible Quantum Paramagnetism in Compressed Sr_{2}IrO_{4}. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2020; 124:067201. Abstract
The effect of compression on the magnetic ground state of Sr_{2}IrO_{4} is studied with x-ray resonant techniques in the diamond anvil cell. The weak interlayer exchange coupling between square-planar 2D IrO_{2} layers is readily modified upon compression, with a crossover between magnetic structures around 7 GPa mimicking the effect of an applied magnetic field at ambient pressure. Higher pressures drive an order-disorder magnetic phase transition with no magnetic order detected above 17-20 GPa. The persistence of strong exchange interactions between J_{eff}=1/2 magnetic moments within the insulating IrO_{2} layers up to at least 35 GPa points to a highly frustrated magnetic state in compressed Sr_{2}IrO_{4}, opening the door for realization of novel quantum paramagnetic phases driven by extended 5d orbitals with entangled spin and orbital degrees of freedom.

Abstract
Fermentation is a traditional processing method that can impact the abundance of relevant components in Chinese herbal medicines. Huafeng Dan Yaomu was processed by fermentation. In this study, we investigated changes in toxic alkaloids using high-performance liquid chromatography and analysed the changes in microbial communities during fermentation of Huafeng Dan Yaomu by Illumina MiSeq platform. The results indicated that highly toxic alkaloid compounds including aconitine, mesaconitine and hypaconitine were decreased, whereas benzoylmesaconine and benzoylhypaconitine were increased during fermentation. The dominant bacterial genera in the raw material (day 0) were Bacillus (58·38%), Enterobacter (16·05%), Enterococcus (4·10%) and others (11·48%). After 7 days of fermentation, Pediococcus predominated, increasing from 98·26 to 99·97%. The dominant fungal genera in the raw material (day 0) were Incertae_Sedis_incertae_sedis (45·36%), Eurotiales_unclassified (20·63%), Millerozyma (15·58%) and Saccharomycopsis (10·64%). After 7 days of fermentation, Saccharomycopsis was increased to 90·84%. After 14 days of fermentation, Pichia became the main fungal genera in the fermentation process. There were 16 bacterial genera and seven fungal genera that displayed significant correlation with toxic alkaloids. The dynamics of the microbiota and chemical compounds during fermentation of Huafeng Dan Yaomu were revealed, providing a foundation for further investigation of the effects of microbes on chemical compounds and insights into the manufacturing of Huafeng Dan Yaomu. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: Huafeng Dan Yaomu is a unique fermentation-based micro-organism product. This study reveals that the change in toxic alkaloids during fermentation was related to micro-organisms. The results of this study can be used to improve the Chinese herb medicine fermentation process, such as the selection of beneficial strains and their composition for modern fermentation. The results of this study may also provide new ideas for the processing of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Abstract
Abstract
Free radicals and other reactive species are considered to be important causative factors in the development of diseases of aging such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases. This relationship has led to considerable interest in assessing the antioxidant capacity of foods and botanicals and other nutritional antioxidant supplements. The use of the oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) assay as a tool for antioxidant assessment is described and proposed as a method for comparing botanical sources and for standardizing nutritional supplements. The free radical or oxidant source is important and direct comparisons cannot be made between procedures that use different sources. The ORAC procedure uses 2,2′-azobis(2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride as a peroxyl radical source, which is relevant to biological systems because the peroxyl radical is the most abundant free radical. Other oxidant sources (hydroxyl radical and Cu++) can also be used to characterize antioxidants in botanicals. Phenolics or polyphenolics are responsible for most of the antioxidant capacity in fruits, vegetables, and most botanical antioxidant supplements. Although little is known about the absorption and metabolism of these components, improvement in the in vivo antioxidant status has been observed in human subjects following consumption of antioxidant botanicals. The ORAC method provides a basis from which to establish appropriate dietary intakes that might impact health outcomes.

A problematic animal fossil from the early Cambrian Hetang Formation, South China. JOURNAL OF PALEONTOLOGY 2019; n/a:1937-2337. Abstract
The lower-middle Hetang Formation (Cambrian Stage 2-3) deposited in slope-basinal facies in South China is well-known for its preservation of the earliest articulated sponge fossils, providing an important taphonomic window into the Cambrian explosion. However, the Hetang Formation also hosts a number of problematic animal fossils that have not been systematically described. This omission results in an incomplete picture of the Hetang biota and limits its contribution to the understanding of the early evolution of animals. Here we describe a new animal taxon, Cambrowania ovata Tang and Xiao, new genus new species, from the middle Hetang Formation in the Lantian area of southern Anhui Province, South China. Specimens are preserved as carbonaceous compressions, although some are secondarily mineralized. A comprehensive analysis using reflected light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and micro-CT reveals that the new species is characterized by a spheroidal to fusoidal truss-like structure consisting of rafter-like crossbars, some of which are secondarily baritized and may have been internally hollow. Some specimens have aperture-like structures that are broadly similar to oscula of sponges, whereas others show evidence of a medial split reminiscent of gaping carapaces. While the phylogenetic affinity of Cambrowania ovata Tang and Xiao, new genus new species remains problematic, we propose that it may represent carapaces of bivalved arthropods or more likely sponges in early life stages. Along with other problematic metazoan fossils such as hyolithids and sphenothallids, Cambrowania ovata Tang and Xiao, new genus new species adds to the diversity of the sponge-dominated Hetang biota in an early Cambrian deep-water slope-basinal environment.

Abstract
The electronic states of many Mott insulators, including iridates, are often conceptualized in terms of localized atomic states such as the famous "J_{eff}=1/2 state." Although orbital hybridization can strongly modify such states and dramatically change the electronic properties of materials, probing this process is highly challenging. In this Letter, we directly detect and quantify the formation of dimer orbitals in an iridate material Ba_{5}AlIr_{2}O_{11} using resonant inelastic x-ray scattering. Sharp peaks corresponding to the excitations of dimer orbitals are observed and analyzed by a combination of density functional theory calculations and theoretical simulations based on an Ir-Ir cluster model. Such partially delocalized dimer states lead to a redefinition of the angular momentum of the electrons and changes in the magnetic and electronic behaviors of the material. We use this to explain the reduction of the observed magnetic moment with respect to predictions based on atomic states. This study opens new directions to study dimerization in a large family of materials, including solids, heterostructures, molecules, and transient states.

Abstract
Low-dimensional layered materials have attracted tremendous attentions because of their wide range of physical and chemical properties and potential applications in electronic devices. Using first-principles method taking into account the quasi-particle self-energy correction and Boltzmann transport theory, the electronic transport properties of the ZrSe3 monolayer are investigated, where the carrier relaxation time is accurately calculated within the framework of electron-phonon coupling. It is demonstrated that the high power factor of the monolayer can be attributed to the grooved bands near the conduction band minimum. Combined with the low lattice thermal conductivity obtained by solving the phonon Boltzmann transport equation, a considerable n-type ZT value of ∼2.4 can be achieved at 800 K in the ZrSe3 monolayer.

Abstract
Previously, we reported that the fluorapatite (FA)-modified polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofiber could be an odontogenic/osteogenic inductive tissue-engineering scaffold by inducing stem cell differentiation and mineralization. The present study aimed to explore which of the signal pathways affected this differentiation and mineralization process. The Human Signal Transduction PathwayFinder RT2 Profiler PCR Array was used to analyze the involvement of potential signal transduction pathways during human dental pulp stem cell (DPSCs) osteogenic differentiation induced by FA-modified PCL nanofiber scaffolds. Based on the results, perturbation studies of the signaling pathways hedgehog, insulin, and Wnt were performed. Moreover, the autophagy process was studied, as indicated by the expression of the microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3A/B-II (LC3-II) and the cell osteogenic phenotypic changes. In a comparison of the cells grown on PCL + FA scaffolds and those on PCL-only scaffolds, the transcript expression of BMP2, BMP4, FOXA2, PTCH1, WNT1, and WNT2 (PCR array-labeled signal proteins of the hedgehog pathway); CEBPB, FASN, and HK2 (PCR array-labeled signal proteins of the insulin pathway); and CCND1, JUN, MYC, TCF7, and WISP1 (PCR array-labeled signal proteins of the Wnt pathway) doubled at day 14 when obvious cell osteogenic differentiation occurred. Phenotypically, in all the perturbation groups at day 14, ALP activity, OPN, and autophagy marker LC3-II expression were coincidently decreased. Consistently, no positive alizarin red staining or von Kossa staining was observed in the specimens from these perturbation groups at day 28. The results showed that when obvious cell differentiation occurred at day 14 on PCL + FA control groups, the inhibition of the hedgehog, insulin, and Wnt pathways significantly decreased DPSC osteogenic differentiation and mineralization. The osteogenic differentiation of DPSCs grown on FA-modified PCL scaffolds appeared to be positively modulated by the hedgehog, insulin, and Wnt signal pathways, which were coordinated with and/or mediated by the cell autophagy process.

Decoupling of magnetism and electric transport in single-crystal (Sr 1-x A x ) 2IrO 4 (A = Ca or Ba). JOURNAL OF PHYSICS. CONDENSED MATTER : AN INSTITUTE OF PHYSICS JOURNAL 2018; 30:245801. Abstract
We report a systematical structural, transport and magnetic study of Ca or Ba doped Sr2IrO4 single crystals. Isoelectronically substituting Ca2+ (up to 15%) or Ba2+ (up to 4%) ion for the Sr2+ ion provides no additional charge carriers but effectively changes the lattice parameters in Sr2IrO4. In particular, 15% Ca doping considerably reduces the c-axis and the unit cell by nearly 0.45% and 1.00%, respectively. These significant, anisotropic compressions in the lattice parameters conspicuously cause no change in the Néel temperature which remains at 240 K, but drastically reduces the electrical resistivity by up to five orders of magnitude or even precipitates a sharp insulator-to-metal transition at lower temperatures, i.e. the vanishing insulating state accompanies an unchanged Néel temperature in (Sr1-x A x )2IrO4. This observation brings to light an intriguing difference between chemical pressure and applied pressure, the latter of which does suppress the long-range magnetic order in Sr2IrO4. This difference reveals the importance of the Ir1-O2-Ir1 bond angle and homogenous volume compression in determining the magnetic ground state. All results, along with a comparison drawn with results of Tb and La doped Sr2IrO4, underscore that the magnetic transition plays a nonessential role in the formation of the charge gap in the spin-orbit-tuned iridate.

A Sparse-View CT Reconstruction Method Based on Combination of DenseNet and Deconvolution. IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON MEDICAL IMAGING 2018; 37:1407-1417. Abstract
Sparse-view computed tomography (CT) holds great promise for speeding up data acquisition and reducing radiation dose in CT scans. Recent advances in reconstruction algorithms for sparse-view CT, such as iterative reconstruction algorithms, obtained high-quality image while requiring advanced computing power. Lately, deep learning (DL) has been widely used in various applications and has obtained many remarkable outcomes. In this paper, we propose a new method for sparse-view CT reconstruction based on the DL approach. The method can be divided into two steps. First, filter backprojection (FBP) was used to reconstruct the CT image from sparsely sampled sinogram. Then, the FBP results were fed to a DL neural network, which is a DenseNet and deconvolution-based network (DD-Net). The DD-Net combines the advantages of DenseNet and deconvolution and applies shortcut connections to concatenate DenseNet and deconvolution to accelerate the training speed of the network; all of those operations can greatly increase the depth of network while enhancing the expression ability of the network. After the training, the proposed DD-Net achieved a competitive performance relative to the state-of-the-art methods in terms of streaking artifacts removal and structure preservation. Compared with the other state-of-the-art reconstruction methods, the DD-Net method can increase the structure similarity by up to 18% and reduce the root mean square error by up to 42%. These results indicate that DD-Net has great potential for sparse-view CT image reconstruction.

Abstract
Ghrelin is a novel growth hormone (GH)-releasing peptide, which has been identified as an endogenous ligand for the GH-sretagogue receptor. The sequence and expression of ghrelin has been determined in many species. In this study, to reveal the molecular characterization and expression patterns of ghrelin in the reindeer (Rangifer tarandus), the full-length DNA and cDNA encoding ghrelin were cloned from reindeer stomach using genome walking and rapid amplification of complementary deoxyribonucleic acid ends (RACE). The expression of ghrelin in almost all tissues was examined by real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). The 4076 bp amplicon of the ghrelin gene consisting of 4 exons and 3 introns was cloned from reindeer. Results of cDNA cloning and sequence analysis revealed that the full-length ghrelin cDNA was composed of 539 bp that included a 5'-untranslated region (46 bp), an open reading frame (ORF) (351 bp), and a 3'-untranslated region (142 bp). In addition, ghrelin was expressed in the all tissues examined, with the expression in the abomasum significantly higher than that in other tissues (p<0.05), followed by the pancreas, duodenum, testis and oesophagus. The results show that the expression of ghrelin in the reindeer gastrointestinal tract is extensive, suggesting its may have a role in regulating the digestive function.

Physics Model-Based Scatter Correction in Multi-Source Interior Computed Tomography. IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON MEDICAL IMAGING 2018; 37:349-360. Abstract
Multi-source interior computed tomography (CT) has a great potential to provide ultra-fast and organ-oriented imaging at low radiation dose. However, X-ray cross scattering from multiple simultaneously activated X-ray imaging chains compromises imaging quality. Previously, we published two hardware-based scatter correction methods for multi-source interior CT. Here, we propose a software-based scatter correction method, with the benefit of no need for hardware modifications. The new method is based on a physics model and an iterative framework. The physics model was derived analytically, and was used to calculate X-ray scattering signals in both forward direction and cross directions in multi-source interior CT. The physics model was integrated to an iterative scatter correction framework to reduce scatter artifacts. The method was applied to phantom data from both Monte Carlo simulations and physical experimentation that were designed to emulate the image acquisition in a multi-source interior CT architecture recently proposed by our team. The proposed scatter correction method reduced scatter artifacts significantly, even with only one iteration. Within a few iterations, the reconstructed images fast converged toward the "scatter-free" reference images. After applying the scatter correction method, the maximum CT number error at the region-of-interests (ROIs) was reduced to 46 HU in numerical phantom dataset and 48 HU in physical phantom dataset respectively, and the contrast-noise-ratio at those ROIs increased by up to 44.3% and up to 19.7%, respectively. The proposed physics model-based iterative scatter correction method could be useful for scatter correction in dual-source or multi-source CT.

Electrical Control of Structural and Physical Properties via Strong Spin-Orbit Interactions in Sr_{2}IrO_{4}. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2018; 120:017201. Abstract
Electrical control of structural and physical properties is a long-sought, but elusive goal of contemporary science and technology. We demonstrate that a combination of strong spin-orbit interactions (SOI) and a canted antiferromagnetic Mott state is sufficient to attain that goal. The antiferromagnetic insulator Sr_{2}IrO_{4} provides a model system in which strong SOI lock canted Ir magnetic moments to IrO_{6} octahedra, causing them to rigidly rotate together. A novel coupling between an applied electrical current and the canting angle reduces the Néel temperature and drives a large, nonlinear lattice expansion that closely tracks the magnetization, increases the electron mobility, and precipitates a unique resistive switching effect. Our observations open new avenues for understanding fundamental physics driven by strong SOI in condensed matter, and provide a new paradigm for functional materials and devices.

A simple and efficient criterion for ready screening of potential topological insulators. Sci Bull (Beijing) 2017; 62:1649-1653. Abstract
Topological materials are a new and rapidly expanding class of quantum matter. To date, identification of the topological nature of a given compound material demands specific determination of the appropriate topological invariant through detailed electronic structure calculations. Here we present an efficient criterion that allows ready screening of potential topological materials, using topological insulators as prototypical examples. The criterion is inherently tied to the band inversion induced by spin-orbit coupling, and is uniquely defined by a minimal number of two elemental physical properties of the constituent elements: the atomic number and Pauling electronegativity. The validity and predictive power of the criterion is demonstrated by rationalizing many known topological insulators and potential candidates in the tetradymite and half-Heusler families, and the underlying design principle is naturally also extendable to predictive discoveries of other classes of topological materials.

Mean estimation empirical mode decomposition method for terahertz time-domain spectroscopy de-noising. APPLIED OPTICS 2017; 56:7138-7145. Abstract
The wavelet-domain de-noising technique has many applications in terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). However, it requires a complex procedure for the selection of the optimal wavelet basis and threshold, which varies for different materials. Inappropriate selections can lead to de-noising failure. Here, we propose the Mean Estimation Empirical Mode Decomposition (ME-EMD) de-noising method for THz-TDS. First, the THz-TDS signal and the collected reference noise are decomposed into the intrinsic mode functions (IMFs); second, the maximum and mean absolute values of the noise IMF amplitudes are calculated and defined as the adaptive threshold and adaptive estimated noise value, respectively; finally, these thresholds and estimated noise values are utilized to filter the noise from the signal IMFs and reconstruct the THz-TDS signal. We also calculate the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and mean square error (MSE) for the ME-EMD method, the "db7" wavelet basis, and the "sym8" wavelet basis after de-noising in both the simulation and the real sample experiments. Both theoretical analysis and experimental results demonstrated that the new ME-EMD method is a simple, effective, and high-stability de-noising tool for THz-TDS pulses. The measured refractive index curves are compared before and after de-noising and demonstrated that the de-noising process is necessary and useful for measuring the optical constants of a sample.
