Catchment sourcing urban pesticide pollution using constructed wetlands in Melbourne, Australia. THE SCIENCE OF THE TOTAL ENVIRONMENT 2023; 863:160556. Abstract
A survey of 111 urban constructed stormwater wetlands (median watershed area = 86.8 ha) was conducted to identify the major pesticides present and to determine their major catchment sources (residential, industrial, commercial, sporting ovals) and associations with catchment imperviousness. Melbourne, Australia, has separate stormwater and sewerage systems and these wetlands are designed to treat urban stormwater. To maximise the pesticides that could be detected, three types of passive samplers (POCIS, Chemcatcher® SDB-XC and Chemcatcher® C18) were deployed, along with collection of fine sediments. A total of 231 pesticides were screened using these methods. Pesticides that were detected in >5 % of wetlands were checked to determine their registered use in urban areas using an Australian government database (PubCris). Twenty-five pesticides were detected in >5 % of wetlands: 4 pesticides were associated with non-urban land uses (agriculture and forests), another 4 pesticides had no known registered use in urban areas and 17 were associated with urban areas. The pesticides associated with urban areas were the herbicides simazine, diuron, metolachlor, bromacil, propyzamide and paclobutrazol, the fungicides tebuconazole, propiconazole, metalaxyl, trifloxystrobin, iprodione and carbendazim and the insecticides fipronil, bifenthrin, chlorantraniliprole, thiamethoxam and permethrin. Atrazine was also detected in 59 % of wetlands but has not been registered for urban uses in Australia since 2010. It's presence in Melbourne may be due to legacy issues or aerial transportation from rural areas where it's still widely used in crop cultivation. Generally, the major urban catchment source of pesticides is from residential areas (particularly fipronil and simazine), most likely in wood preservatives, paints and from weed or insect control. Many of these widely used pesticides were correlated with increased catchment imperviousness. Some pesticides (bromacil and imidacloprid) were correlated with commercial premises and chlorantraniliprole was correlated with the presence of sporting ovals in the catchment. No pesticides were specifically correlated with industrial areas. The use of passive samplers and fine sediments, in conjunction with detailed land use mapping of stormwater wetland catchments is very effective and efficient in monitoring and sourcing pesticide contamination in urban environments.

Cd4+ T cell phenotypes, autoantibodies and transcriptional signatures overlap between myocarditis, ischemic and nonischemic heart failure, suggesting shared inflammatory pathogenic mechanisms. Abstract
Abstract
Background
Myocarditis may progress to heart failure (HF) often as a result of viral myocardial infection where cardiomyocyte damage exposes sequestered self-antigens including cardiac myosin (CM) leading to autoimmunity. CM acts as an adjuvant via activation of Toll-like receptor (TLR)2 and TLR8, and is a potent autoantigen promoting HF in myocarditis through elevated IL-6, IL-17A and Th17 differentiation concomitant with autoantibody responses against CM. Since cardiomyocyte damage also occurs in ischemic and nonischemic cardiomyopathies, we investigated the hypothesis that ischemic and nonischemic HF would have similar inflammatory phenotypes.
Purpose
We defined CD4+ T helper cell phenotypes, autoantibodies, and peripheral blood transcriptome of the inflammatory phenotypes in myocarditis, compared to ischemic, and nonischemic HF. The identification of immune phenotypes in myocarditis and HF are important for consideration of inflammatory interventions and immunotherapies in myocarditis and HF.
Methods
Peripheral blood was collected from myocarditis patients within 6 months of disease onset, and from clinically stable, chronic HF patients. CD4+ T helper cells (Th1, Th2, and Th17) were evaluated by flow cytometry after density gradient separation, and human CM autoantibody titers were determined by ELISA. Whole blood RNA sequencing, Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA), as well as multi-contrast pathway enrichment were performed.
Results
(Fig. 1A) Significantly elevated human CM autoantibodies were observed in myocarditis, ischemic and nonischemic HF patients, and correlated with nonrecovered patients and poor outcomes. (Fig. 1B) Myocarditis and nonischemic HF patients had significantly elevated Th17 and Th2 frequencies. Ischemic HF patients had a trend toward elevated Th 17 and Th 2 CD4+ T cell frequencies. None of the cohorts demonstrated an elevation in Th1 (not shown) (Fig 2A), IPA canonical pathway enrichment for all cohorts together showed elevated pathways concordant with our proposed pathogenic mechanisms in myocarditis and HF, including TLR and inflammasome signaling and IL17A and IL13 pathways (Fig. 2B). Myocarditis and nonischemic HF shared more inflammatory pathway enrichment in common than ischemic HF (Fig. 2C) Multi contrast pathway enrichment demonstrated that males in each cohort shared TLR and IL1b signaling that was not observed in females.
Conclusion
Nonischemic HF patients have overlapping immunological features with myocarditis including elevated anti-CM autoantibodies, as well as Th17, and Th2 frequencies. Ischemic HF demonstrated elevated CM autoantibodies and fewer inflammatory genes and pathways. The transcriptome supported the immune phenotypes in myocarditis and heart failure suggesting pathogenic autoimmune and inflammatory mechanisms shared in myocarditis and ischemic HF. The results have implications for immunomodulatory therapies in myocarditis and HF.

Bendamustine is safe and effective for lymphodepletion before tisagenlecleucel in patients with refractory or relapsed large B-cell lymphomas. Ann Oncol 2022; 33:916-928. Abstract
BACKGROUND Anti-CD19 chimeric antigen receptor T-cell immunotherapy (CAR-T) is now a standard treatment of relapsed or refractory B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas; however, a significant portion of patients do not respond to CAR-T and/or experience toxicities. Lymphodepleting chemotherapy is a critical component of CAR-T that enhances CAR-T-cell engraftment, expansion, cytotoxicity, and persistence. We hypothesized that the lymphodepletion regimen might affect the safety and efficacy of CAR-T. PATIENTS AND METHODS We compared the safety and efficacy of lymphodepletion using either fludarabine/cyclophosphamide (n = 42) or bendamustine (n = 90) before tisagenlecleucel in two cohorts of patients with relapsed or refractory large B-cell lymphomas treated consecutively at three academic institutions in the United States (University of Pennsylvania, n = 90; Oregon Health & Science University, n = 35) and Europe (University of Vienna, n = 7). Response was assessed using the Lugano 2014 criteria and toxicities were assessed by the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) version 5.0 and, when possible, the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT) consensus grading. RESULTS Fludarabine/cyclophosphamide led to more profound lymphocytopenia after tisagenlecleucel infusion compared with bendamustine, although the efficacy of tisagenlecleucel was similar between the two groups. We observed significant differences, however, in the frequency and severity of adverse events. In particular, patients treated with bendamustine had lower rates of cytokine release syndrome and neurotoxicity. In addition, higher rates of hematological toxicities were observed in patients receiving fludarabine/cyclophosphamide. Bendamustine-treated patients had higher nadir neutrophil counts, hemoglobin levels, and platelet counts, as well as a shorter time to blood count recovery, and received fewer platelet and red cell transfusions. Fewer episodes of infection, neutropenic fever, and post-infusion hospitalization were observed in the bendamustine cohort compared with patients receiving fludarabine/cyclophosphamide. CONCLUSIONS Bendamustine for lymphodepletion before tisagenlecleucel has efficacy similar to fludarabine/cyclophosphamide with reduced toxicities, including cytokine release syndrome, neurotoxicity, infectious and hematological toxicities, as well as reduced hospital utilization.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) first reported in Wuhan China in December 2019 is a global pandemic that is threatening the health and wellbeing of people worldwide. To date there have been more than 274 million reported cases and 5.3 million deaths. The Omicron variant first documented in the City of Tshwane, Gauteng Province, South Africa on 9 November 2021 led to exponential increases in cases and a sharp rise in hospital admissions. The clinical profile of patients admitted at a large hospital in Tshwane is compared with previous waves. METHODS The methods should describe what study design you employed for the study and what your sample size was, as it is this is mainly results. 466 hospital COVID-19 admissions since 14 November 2021 were compared to 3976 prior admissions since 4 May 2020. Ninety-eight patient records at peak bed occupancy during the outbreak were reviewed for primary indication for admission, clinical severity, oxygen supplementation level, vaccination and prior COVID-19 infection. Provincial and city-wide daily cases and reported deaths hospitalizations and excess deaths data were sourced from the NICD, the National Department of Health and the South African Medical Research Council. RESULTS Deaths and ICU admissions were 4.5% vs 21.3% (p<0.00001), and 1% vs 4.3% (p<0.00001); length of stay was 4.0 days vs 8.8 days; and mean age was 39 years vs 49 years for the Omicron and previous waves respectively. Admissions peaked and declined rapidly with peak bed occupancy at 51% of highest previous peak. Sixty two (63%) patients in COVID-19 wards had incidental COVID-19 following a positive SARS-CoV-2 PCR test . Only one third (36) had COVID-19 pneumonia, of which 72% had mild to moderate disease. The remaining 38% required high care or ICU admission. Fewer than half (45%) of patients in COVID-19 wards compared to 99.5% in the first wave required oxygen supplementation. City and provincial rates show decoupling of cases, hospitalisations and deaths compared to previous waves, corroborating the clinical findings of milder omicron disease in the hospital. CONCLUSION There was decreased severity of disease in the Omicron driven fourth wave in the City of Tshwane, its first global epicentre.

Abstract
A search for charged leptons with large impact parameters using 139 fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13 TeV pp collision data from the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented, addressing a long-standing gap in coverage of possible new physics signatures. Results are consistent with the background prediction. This search provides unique sensitivity to long-lived scalar supersymmetric lepton partners (sleptons). For lifetimes of 0.1 ns, selectron, smuon, and stau masses up to 720, 680, and 340 GeV, respectively, are excluded at 95% confidence level, drastically improving on the previous best limits from LEP.

Background
Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPX) is established in the evaluation of patients with cardiac and pulmonary diseases, and its clinical utility seems to be expanding. Currently the most important diagnostic and prognostic ventilatory metrics of CPX rely on the exercise phase. Nevertheless, a consistent body of evidence suggests that important information can be derived from the recovery phase, especially in the first few minutes after exercise. In this context, patients with heart failure (HF) demonstrate a slower recovery of the oxygen consumption (VO2) compared with healthy individuals. Purpose: To comprehensively investigate the behavior of respiratory gases during recovery from CPX in a diverse cohort of HF patients. Methods: All individuals who performed CPX at the department of cardiology of Stanford University Hospital were eligible for the study. Patients were included in the experimental group if they (i) were recorded for five minutes after the exercise phase of CPX and (ii) had documented heart failure. They were excluded if they had other clinical diagnoses which may be responsible for exercise intolerance or symptoms or were unable to give informed consent. Healthy controls were recruited from the local community and were included if they did not have documented or suspected disease. Respiratory gases were collected on a breath-by-breath basis and analysed after applying a 30 second rolling average filter. Metrics were analyzed as absolute values, percentage change from peak and the half-time of recovery (T ½; i.e. the duration until a metric had returned to ½ of its value at peak). Data was analyzed over time within patients and averages between groups using parametric statistical methods. In accordance with previous studies, the amount of change in a metric after exercise is presented as the "magnitude" of overshoot. Results: 32 patients with HF (11 Female, 47 ± 13 yrs) and 30 healthy subjects (14 Female, 43 ± 12 yrs) were included. A comparison of ventilatory metrics during recovery between HF and controls is depicted in Figure 1. Peak VO2 was 1135 ± 419 mL/min (13.5 ± 3.8 mL/Kg/min) vs 2408 ± 787 mL/min (32.5 ± 9.0 mL/Kg/min); P <0.01. A significant difference between patients with HF and healthy subjects was found in T ½ of VO2 (111.3 ± 51.0s vs 58.0 ± 13.2s, p < 0.01) and VCO2 (132.0 ± 38.8s vs 74.3 ± 21.1s, p < 0.01). The magnitude of the overshoot was also found to be significantly reduced in patients with HF for VE/VO2 (41.9 ± 29.1% vs 62.1 ± 17.7%, P < 0.01), RQ (25.0 ± 13.6% vs 38.7 ± 15.1%, p < 0.01) and PETO2 (7.2 ± 3.3% vs 10.1 ± 4.6%, p < 0.01). Finally, the magnitude of the RQ overshoot showed a moderate correlation with peak VO2 (ϱ=0.58, p < 0.01). Conclusions: We observed that ventilatory kinetics measured in early recovery after CPX differ significantly between healthy subjects and patients with HF. The assessment of post exercise respiratory gases in a clinical setting may add to the prognostic and diagnostic value of CPX in heart failure.

Abstract
The first measurement of longitudinal decorrelations of harmonic flow amplitudes v_{n} for n=2-4 in Xe+Xe collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.44 TeV is obtained using 3 μb^{-1} of data with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The decorrelation signal for v_{3} and v_{4} is found to be nearly independent of collision centrality and transverse momentum (p_{T}) requirements on final-state particles, but for v_{2} a strong centrality and p_{T} dependence is seen. When compared with the results from Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV, the longitudinal decorrelation signal in midcentral Xe+Xe collisions is found to be larger for v_{2}, but smaller for v_{3}. Current hydrodynamic models reproduce the ratios of the v_{n} measured in Xe+Xe collisions to those in Pb+Pb collisions but fail to describe the magnitudes and trends of the ratios of longitudinal flow decorrelations between Xe+Xe and Pb+Pb. The results on the system-size dependence provide new insights and an important lever arm to separate effects of the longitudinal structure of the initial state from other early and late time effects in heavy-ion collisions.

Abstract
Several extensions of the Standard Model predict the production of dark matter particles at the LHC. An uncharted signature of dark matter particles produced in association with VV=W^{±}W^{∓} or ZZ pairs from a decay of a dark Higgs boson s is searched for using 139 fb^{-1} of pp collisions recorded by the ATLAS detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The s→V(qq[over ¯])V(qq[over ¯]) decays are reconstructed with a novel technique aimed at resolving the dense topology from boosted VV pairs using jets in the calorimeter and tracking information. Dark Higgs scenarios with m_{s}>160 GeV are excluded.

Medium-Induced Modification of Z-Tagged Charged Particle Yields in Pb+Pb Collisions at 5.02 TeV with the ATLAS Detector. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2021; 126:072301. Abstract
The yield of charged particles opposite to a Z boson with large transverse momentum (p_{T}) is measured in 260 pb^{-1} of pp and 1.7 nb^{-1} of Pb+Pb collision data at 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The Z boson tag is used to select hard-scattered partons with specific kinematics, and to observe how their showers are modified as they propagate through the quark-gluon plasma created in Pb+Pb collisions. Compared with pp collisions, charged-particle yields in Pb+Pb collisions show significant modifications as a function of charged-particle p_{T} in a way that depends on event centrality and Z boson p_{T}. The data are compared with a variety of theoretical calculations and provide new information about the medium-induced energy loss of partons in a p_{T} regime difficult to measure through other channels.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic performance of alternative diagnostic strategies to oral glucose tolerance tests, including random plasma glucose, fasting plasma glucose and HbA1c , during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS Retrospective service data (Cambridge, UK; 17 736 consecutive singleton pregnancies, 2004-2008; 826 consecutive gestational diabetes pregnancies, 2014-2019) and 361 women with ≥1 gestational diabetes risk factor (OPHELIA prospective observational study, UK) were included. Pregnancy outcomes included gestational diabetes (National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence or International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups criteria), diabetes in pregnancy (WHO criteria), Caesarean section, large-for-gestational age infant, neonatal hypoglycaemia and neonatal intensive care unit admission. Receiver-operating characteristic curves and unadjusted logistic regression were used to compare random plasma glucose, fasting plasma glucose and HbA1c performance. RESULTS Gestational diabetes diagnosis was significantly associated with random plasma glucose at 12 weeks [area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve for both criteria 0.81 (95% CI 0.79-0.83)], fasting plasma glucose [National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence: area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve 0.75 (95% CI 0.65-0.85); International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups: area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve 0.92 (95% CI 0.85-0.98)] and HbA1c at 28 weeks' gestation [National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence: 0.83 (95% CI 0.75-0.90); International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups: 0.84 (95% CI 0.77-0.91)]. Each measure predicts some, but not all, pregnancy outcomes studied. At 12 weeks, ~5% of women would be identified using random plasma glucose ≥8.5 mmol/l (sensitivity 42%; specificity 96%) and at 28 weeks using HbA1c ≥39 mmol/mol (sensitivity 26%; specificity 96%) or fasting plasma glucose ≥5.2-5.4 mmol/l (sensitivity 18-41%; specificity 97-98%). CONCLUSIONS Random plasma glucose at 12 weeks, and fasting plasma glucose or HbA1c at 28 weeks identify women with hyperglycaemia at risk of suboptimal pregnancy outcomes. These opportunistic laboratory tests perform adequately for risk stratification when oral glucose tolerance testing is not available.

Abstract
The observation of forward proton scattering in association with lepton pairs (e^{+}e^{-}+p or μ^{+}μ^{-}+p) produced via photon fusion is presented. The scattered proton is detected by the ATLAS Forward Proton spectrometer, while the leptons are reconstructed by the central ATLAS detector. Proton-proton collision data recorded in 2017 at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13 TeV are analyzed, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 14.6 fb^{-1}. A total of 57 (123) candidates in the ee+p (μμ+p) final state are selected, allowing the background-only hypothesis to be rejected with a significance exceeding 5 standard deviations in each channel. Proton-tagging techniques are introduced for cross-section measurements in the fiducial detector acceptance, corresponding to σ_{ee+p}=11.0±2.6(stat)±1.2(syst)±0.3(lumi) and σ_{μμ+p}=7.2±1.6(stat)±0.9(syst)±0.2(lumi) fb in the dielectron and dimuon channel, respectively.

Abstract
This Letter presents a search for the production of new heavy resonances decaying into a Higgs boson and a photon using proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb^{-1}. The analysis is performed by reconstructing hadronically decaying Higgs boson (H→bb[over ¯]) candidates as single large-radius jets. A novel algorithm using information about the jet constituents in the center-of-mass frame of the jet is implemented to identify the two b quarks in the single jet. No significant excess of events is observed above the expected background. Upper limits are set on the production cross-section times branching fraction for narrow spin-1 resonances decaying into a Higgs boson and a photon in the resonance mass range from 0.7 to 4 TeV, cross-section times branching fractions are excluded between 11.6 fb and 0.11 fb at a 95% confidence level.

Abstract
A search for Higgs boson decays into a Z boson and a light resonance in two-lepton plus jet events is performed, using a pp collision dataset with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb^{-1} collected at sqrt[s]=13 TeV by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN LHC. The resonance considered is a light boson with a mass below 4 GeV from a possible extended scalar sector or a charmonium state. Multivariate discriminants are used for the event selection and for evaluating the mass of the light resonance. No excess of events above the expected background is found. Observed (expected) 95% confidence-level upper limits are set on the Higgs boson production cross section times branching fraction to a Z boson and the signal resonance, with values in the range 17-340 pb (16_{-5}^{+6}-320_{-90}^{+130} pb) for the different light spin-0 boson mass and branching fraction hypotheses, and with values of 110 and 100 pb (100_{-30}^{+40} and 100_{-30}^{+40} pb) for the η_{c} and J/ψ hypotheses, respectively.

Dijet Resonance Search with Weak Supervision Using sqrt[s]=13 TeV pp Collisions in the ATLAS Detector. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2020; 125:131801. Abstract
This Letter describes a search for narrowly resonant new physics using a machine-learning anomaly detection procedure that does not rely on signal simulations for developing the analysis selection. Weakly supervised learning is used to train classifiers directly on data to enhance potential signals. The targeted topology is dijet events and the features used for machine learning are the masses of the two jets. The resulting analysis is essentially a three-dimensional search A→BC, for m_{A}∼O(TeV), m_{B},m_{C}∼O(100 GeV) and B, C are reconstructed as large-radius jets, without paying a penalty associated with a large trials factor in the scan of the masses of the two jets. The full run 2 sqrt[s]=13 TeV pp collision dataset of 139 fb^{-1} recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider is used for the search. There is no significant evidence of a localized excess in the dijet invariant mass spectrum between 1.8 and 8.2 TeV. Cross-section limits for narrow-width A, B, and C particles vary with m_{A}, m_{B}, and m_{C}. For example, when m_{A}=3 TeV and m_{B}≳200 GeV, a production cross section between 1 and 5 fb is excluded at 95% confidence level, depending on m_{C}. For certain masses, these limits are up to 10 times more sensitive than those obtained by the inclusive dijet search. These results are complementary to the dedicated searches for the case that B and C are standard model bosons.

CP Properties of Higgs Boson Interactions with Top Quarks in the tt[over ¯]H and tH Processes Using H→γγ with the ATLAS Detector. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2020; 125:061802. Abstract
A study of the charge conjugation and parity (CP) properties of the interaction between the Higgs boson and top quarks is presented. Higgs bosons are identified via the diphoton decay channel (H→γγ), and their production in association with a top quark pair (tt[over ¯]H) or single top quark (tH) is studied. The analysis uses 139 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Assuming a CP-even coupling, the tt[over ¯]H process is observed with a significance of 5.2 standard deviations. The measured cross section times H→γγ branching ratio is 1.64_{-0.36}^{+0.38}(stat)_{-0.14}^{+0.17}(sys) fb, and the measured rate for tt[over ¯]H is 1.43_{-0.31}^{+0.33}(stat)_{-0.15}^{+0.21}(sys) times the Standard Model expectation. The tH production process is not observed and an upper limit on its rate of 12 times the Standard Model expectation is set. A CP-mixing angle greater (less) than 43 (-43)° is excluded at 95% confidence level.

Abstract
A search for heavy neutral Higgs bosons is performed using the LHC Run 2 data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector. The search for heavy resonances is performed over the mass range 0.2-2.5 TeV for the τ^{+}τ^{-} decay with at least one τ-lepton decaying into final states with hadrons. The data are in good agreement with the background prediction of the standard model. In the M_{h}^{125} scenario of the minimal supersymmetric standard model, values of tanβ>8 and tanβ>21 are excluded at the 95% confidence level for neutral Higgs boson masses of 1.0 and 1.5 TeV, respectively, where tanβ is the ratio of the vacuum expectation values of the two Higgs doublets.

Measurement of the Lund Jet Plane Using Charged Particles in 13 TeV Proton-Proton Collisions with the ATLAS Detector. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2020; 124:222002. Abstract
The prevalence of hadronic jets at the LHC requires that a deep understanding of jet formation and structure is achieved in order to reach the highest levels of experimental and theoretical precision. There have been many measurements of jet substructure at the LHC and previous colliders, but the targeted observables mix physical effects from various origins. Based on a recent proposal to factorize physical effects, this Letter presents a double-differential cross-section measurement of the Lund jet plane using 139 fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected with the ATLAS detector using jets with transverse momentum above 675 GeV. The measurement uses charged particles to achieve a fine angular resolution and is corrected for acceptance and detector effects. Several parton shower Monte Carlo models are compared with the data. No single model is found to be in agreement with the measured data across the entire plane.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The survival advantage of induction chemotherapy (IC) followed by locoregional treatment is controversial in locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (LAHNSCC). We previously showed feasibility and safety of cetuximab-based IC (paclitaxel/carboplatin/cetuximab-PCC, and docetaxel/cisplatin/5-fluorouracil/cetuximab-C-TPF) followed by local therapy in LAHNSCC. The primary end point of this phase II clinical trial with randomization to PCC and C-TPF followed by combined local therapy in patients with LAHNSCC stratified by human papillomavirus (HPV) status and T-stage was 2-year progression-free survival (PFS) compared with historical control. PATIENTS AND METHODS Eligible patients were ≥18 years with squamous cell carcinoma of the oropharynx, oral cavity, nasopharynx, hypopharynx, or larynx with measurable stage IV (T0-4N2b-2c/3M0) and known HPV by p16 status. Stratification was by HPV and T-stage into one of the two risk groups: (i) low-risk: HPV-positive and T0-3 or HPV-negative and T0-2; (ii) intermediate/high-risk: HPV-positive and T4 or HPV-negative and T3-4. Patient reported outcomes were carried out. RESULTS A total of 136 patients were randomized in the study, 68 to each arm. With a median follow up of 3.2 years, the 2-year PFS in the PCC arm was 89% in the overall, 96% in the low-risk and 67% in the intermediate/high-risk groups; in the C-TPF arm 2-year PFS was 88% in the overall, 88% in the low-risk and 89% in the intermediate/high-risk groups. CONCLUSION The observed 2-year PFS of PCC in the low-risk group and of C-TPF in the intermediate/high-risk group showed a 20% improvement compared with the historical control derived from RTOG-0129, therefore reaching the primary end point of the trial.

Abstract
The elliptic flow of muons from the decay of charm and bottom hadrons is measured in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV using a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 150 pb^{-1} recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The muons from heavy-flavor decay are separated from light-hadron decay muons using momentum imbalance between the tracking and muon spectrometers. The heavy-flavor decay muons are further separated into those from charm decay and those from bottom decay using the distance-of-closest-approach to the collision vertex. The measurement is performed for muons in the transverse momentum range 4-7 GeV and pseudorapidity range |η|<2.4. A significant nonzero elliptic anisotropy coefficient v_{2} is observed for muons from charm decays, while the v_{2} value for muons from bottom decays is consistent with zero within uncertainties.

Abstract
A search for magnetic monopoles and high-electric-charge objects is presented using 34.4 fb^{-1} of 13 TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC during 2015 and 2016. The considered signature is based upon high ionization in the transition radiation tracker of the inner detector associated with a pencil-shape energy deposit in the electromagnetic calorimeter. The data were collected by a dedicated trigger based on the tracker high-threshold hit capability. The results are interpreted in models of Drell-Yan pair production of stable particles with two spin hypotheses (0 and 1/2) and masses ranging from 200 to 4000 GeV. The search improves by approximately a factor of 5 the constraints on the direct production of magnetic monopoles carrying one or two Dirac magnetic charges and stable objects with electric charge in the range 20≤|z|≤60 and extends the charge range to 60<|z|≤100.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Transient ischemic attack (TIA) patients are at high risk of recurrent vascular events; timely management can reduce that risk by 70%. The Protocol-guided Rapid Evaluation of Veterans Experiencing New Transient Neurological Symptoms (PREVENT) developed, implemented, and evaluated a TIA quality improvement (QI) intervention aligned with Learning Healthcare System principles. METHODS This stepped-wedge trial developed, implemented and evaluated a provider-facing, multi-component intervention to improve TIA care at six facilities. The unit of analysis was the medical center. The intervention was developed based on benchmarking data, staff interviews, literature, and electronic quality measures and included: performance data, clinical protocols, professional education, electronic health record tools, and QI support. The effectiveness outcome was the without-fail rate: the proportion of patients who receive all processes of care for which they are eligible among seven processes. The implementation outcomes were the number of implementation activities completed and final team organization level. The intervention effects on the without-fail rate were analyzed using generalized mixed-effects models with multilevel hierarchical random effects. Mixed methods were used to assess implementation, user satisfaction, and sustainability. DISCUSSION PREVENT advanced three aspects of a Learning Healthcare System. Learning from Data: teams examined and interacted with their performance data to explore hypotheses, plan QI activities, and evaluate change over time. Learning from Each Other: Teams participated in monthly virtual collaborative calls. Sharing Best Practices: Teams shared tools and best practices. The approach used to design and implement PREVENT may be generalizable to other clinical conditions where time-sensitive care spans clinical settings and medical disciplines. 2418Th17 signature, autoimmunity and differentially expressed genes in cardiomyopathy and heart failure. Eur Heart J 2019. Abstract
Abstract
Background
Cardiomyopathy may occur due to viral infections or drug induced heart damage. Cardiac myosin released from damaged heart has been shown to be a damage associated molecular pattern which binds to TLR2 or TLR8 and can act as an adjuvant to induce a strong autoimmune response against the heart. The result is autoimmunity against the heart which can lead to apoptosis, fibrosis and heart failure.
Purpose
Immune biomarkers of the early stages of heart failure are needed to identify individuals who develop progressive heart failure, do not recover their ejection fraction and may be candidates for immunotherapies.
Methods
Forty-one patients with myocarditis and heart failure <6 months after onset were followed for 12 months and compared to age matched controls. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells were analyzed by FACS analysis and serum analyzed by ELISA for autoantibodies and cytokines. Statistical analysis was determined by Mann Whitney test. Peripheral blood of 10 patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) vs 19 healthy controls were analyzed for gene expression by RNA sequencing and pathway analysis using Reactome.
Results
Autoantibodies against human cardiac myosin and the beta-adrenergic receptor were significantly elevated in our cohort and functionally acted on cardiomyocytes to activate protein kinase A. Concomitantly, a Th17+ immunophenotype was significantly elevated in blood as well as in cardiac biopsies. CD4+IL17+ T cells (p=0.0008) and Th17-promoting cytokines TGF beta (p<0.0001), IL-6 (p<0.0001), IL-23 (p=0.0001), GMCSF (p=0.0336) and GMCSF-secreting CD4+ T cells (p=0.0006) were significantly elevated in blood. A Th17 immunophenotype was significantly associated with heart failure primarily in males (p=0.029). Persistent heart failure (NYHA class III and IV) and non-recovery of left ventricular function were associated with significantly higher percentages of IL17A-producing T cells at baseline, 6 and 12 months after onset, and IL-17A (p=0.019) and elevated Th17-promoting cytokines IL-6 (p=0.0001) and TGF-beta (p=0.0076). Decreased T regulatory immunosuppressive cells were significantly (p=0.0006) decreased and correlated with elevated Th17 cytokines in heart failure. Overrepresentation analysis of differentially expressed genes (adj p<0.05) in blood of patients with DCM >1year were identified using Reactome which revealed significant (FDR = 1.52E-13) enrichment of neutrophil degranulation (48 genes).
Conclusion
Our study illustrates a strong Th17 signature in more severe heart failure early in disease with elevated anti-cardiac myosin autoantibodies in non-recovery of left ventricular function. We observed a strong correlation with Th17-related neutrophil degranulation pathways in later disease, which may be biomarkers of fibrosis progression and disease severity in patients with heart failure. Cardiomyopathy with a Th17 signature might be treated with preventive immunomodulatory therapies such as anti-IL17A.

P6288Autoantibodies in heart failure associate with disease severity and differentially expressed genes in apoptotic, fibrotic, and hypoxia pathways in cardiomyocytes. Eur Heart J 2019. Abstract
Abstract
Background
Previous studies suggest that autoantibodies against cardiac myosin lead to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Anti-cardiac myosin antibodies cross-react with the beta adrenergic receptor (βAR) and signal cAMP-dependent protein kinase A (PKA) in cardiomyocytes leading to apoptosis, fibrosis, dilated cardiomyopathy and arrhythmias.
Purpose
To determine if cross-reactive anti-cardiac myosin/anti-βAR autoantibodies which signal cardiomyocytes through PKA might play a role to establish DCM by promoting remodeling, apoptosis, and fibrosis.
Methods
Forty-one adults with DCM were enrolled <6 months from symptom onset and followed for 12 months. Serum and myocarditis/DCM-derived human mAb were analyzed by ELISA for autoantibodies, and a PKA assay measured anti-HCM/βAR antibody-mediated signaling of cardiomyocytes (ATCC primary heart cell line H9c2). The top 50 genes differentially expressed in the cardiomyocytes treated with sera or human mAb were identified and compared to genes differentially expressed in blood of DCM patients to identify shared disease-specific genes.
Results
Anti-HCM autoantibodies including autoantibody responses against 32 overlapping synthetic peptides of the S2 fragment of HCM were significantly elevated in patients whose ejection fraction did not improve over 1-year compared to those with improved ejection fraction. The human mAb confirmed our results with HCM, βAR, specific HCM peptides, and PKA signaling. RNA sequencing revealed differentially expressed genes in serum/mAb-treated cardiomyocytes compared to genes identified after RNA sequencing of peripheral blood of patients (n=10) with DCM for >1 year from onset. A primary heart cell line (H9c2-ATCC) treated with myocarditis/DCM patient sera or human mAb revealed differentially expressed genes associated with cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure, and included inflammasome component NLRP3 and complement factor H. Ingenuity Pathway Analyses revealed 27, 7, and 1 differentially expressed genes related to apoptosis, fibrosis, and hypoxia, respectively. Gene expression of CASZ1, a transcription factor important in protection against DCM, was strongly correlated with PKA signaling (r=0.89). The KDM6B gene for lysine demethylase associated with hypoxia and apoptosis pathways and was shared between cardiomyocyte and peripheral blood analysis of DCM patients. Overall, 5 genes were shared in heart failure vs in vitro Ab-treated cardiomyocyte RNA sequencing analysis: CYP4F3, KDM6B, MBOAT7, SMAP2, and DDIT4, which affects phosphorylation of mTOR to promote autophagy and cell death, cardiac hypertrophy and dysfunction.
Conclusions
Significantly higher responses to cardiac myosin in patients with DCM were related to lack of left ventricular function improvement and to differential expression of genes promoting apoptosis, fibrosis and disease severity. These studies identify autoantibody-directed gene signaling as a potential novel therapeutic target in DCM.

6075Workload adjusted blood pressure response rather than peak systolic blood pressure is associated with increased all-cause mortality in males; results from 7097 treadmill exercise tests. Abstract
Abstract
Background
Systolic blood pressure (SBP) is routinely measured during exercise testing (ET) and is in part determined by cardiac output and peripheral vascular resistance. A frequently used threshold for defining hypertensive response to exercise is ≥210 mmHg but this does not account for the fact that SBP is related to workload, via cardiac output.
Purpose
To examine the prognostic implications of considering external workload (METs) adjusted SBP response to exercise.
Methods
We reviewed all symptom-limited treadmill ET in males between 1987 and 2007 at a single centre (inclusion/exclusion criteria detailed in figure 1A). SBP was measured standing at rest and at peak exercise. Workload adjusted BP response with exercise (SBP/MET slope) was calculated as ΔSBP/ΔMET. METs were calculated from peak speed and grade according to the standard American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) formula. Age-predicted peak METs was calculated as: 18 - 0.15 × age. Ten-year Cox proportional hazard ratios (HR) with 95% confidence intervals were calculated and adjusted as outlined in figure 1B.
Results
7097 subjects were included, of which 1559 (22%) died within 10 years. Survivors were younger (57.2±10.6 y vs. 64.5±10.3 y, p<0.001) and reached higher % of age-predicted METs (97±33% vs. 82±33%, p<0.001). Survivors had higher peak SBP (181±26 vs. 176±27 mmHg, p<0.001) as well as greater ΔSBP (49±22 vs. 42±22 mmHg, p<0.001), while they had lower SBP/MET slope (7.0±4.4 vs. 8.9±6.5 mmHg/MET, p<0.001). A peak SBP ≥210 mmHg was associated with better survival; 10-yr adjusted HR: 0.76 (0.64–0.88, p<0.001). In contrast, a higher SBP/MET slope was associated with increased mortality (table 1).

Conclusion
Workload adjusted blood pressure response to exercise in contrast to peak BP response was associated with increased mortality in male patients referred for ET. Of note, reaching a BP of at least 210 mmHg (suggested to define a hypertensive response to exercise) was associated with a 24% reduction in all-cause mortality.

Abstract
This Letter describes the observation of the light-by-light scattering process, γγ→γγ, in Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. The analysis is conducted using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.73 nb^{-1}, collected in November 2018 by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. Light-by-light scattering candidates are selected in events with two photons produced exclusively, each with transverse energy E_{T}^{γ}>3 GeV and pseudorapidity |η_{γ}|<2.4, diphoton invariant mass above 6 GeV, and small diphoton transverse momentum and acoplanarity. After applying all selection criteria, 59 candidate events are observed for a background expectation of 12±3 events. The observed excess of events over the expected background has a significance of 8.2 standard deviations. The measured fiducial cross section is 78±13(stat)±7(syst)±3(lumi) nb.

Abstract
Charged-particle fragmentation functions for jets azimuthally balanced by a high-transverse-momentum, prompt, isolated photon are measured in 25 pb^{-1} of pp and 0.49 nb^{-1} of Pb+Pb collision data at 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The measurements are compared to predictions of Monte Carlo generators and to measurements of inclusively selected jets. In pp collisions, a different jet fragmentation function in photon-tagged events from that in inclusive jet events arises from the difference in fragmentation between light quarks and gluons. The ratios of the fragmentation functions in Pb+Pb events to that in pp events are used to explore the parton color-charge dependence of jet quenching in the hot medium. In relatively peripheral collisions, fragmentation functions exhibit a similar modification pattern for photon-tagged and inclusive jets. However, photon-tagged jets are observed to have larger modifications than inclusive jets in central Pb+Pb events.

Abstract
Dark matter particles, if sufficiently light, may be produced in decays of the Higgs boson. This Letter presents a statistical combination of searches for H→invisible decays where H is produced according to the standard model via vector boson fusion, Z(ℓℓ)H, and W/Z(had)H, all performed with the ATLAS detector using 36.1 fb^{-1} of pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13 TeV at the LHC. In combination with the results at sqrt[s]=7 and 8 TeV, an exclusion limit on the H→invisible branching ratio of 0.26(0.17_{-0.05}^{+0.07}) at 95% confidence level is observed (expected).

Exercise capacity reflects airflow limitation rather than hypoxaemia in patients with pulmonary arteriovenous malformations. QJM 2019; 112:335-342. Abstract
BACKGROUND Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) generate a right-to-left shunt. Impaired gas exchange results in hypoxaemia and impaired CO2 clearance. Most patients compensate effectively but some are dyspneic, and these are rarely the most hypoxaemic. AIM To test degrees of concurrent pathology influencing exercise capacity. DESIGN Replicate, sequential single centre, prospective studies. METHODS Cardiopulmonary exercise tests (CPETs) were performed in 26 patients with PAVMs, including individuals with and without known airflow obstruction. To replicate, relationships were tested prospectively in an independent cohort where self-reported exercise capacity evaluated by the Veterans Specific Activity Questionnaire (VSAQ) was used to calculate metabolic equivalents (METs) at peak exercise (n = 71). Additional measurements included oxygen saturation (SpO2), forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1), vital capacity (VC), fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO), haemoglobin and iron indices. RESULTS By CPET, the peak work rate was only minimally associated with low SpO2 or low arterial oxygen content (calculated as CaO2=1.34 × SpO2 × haemoglobin), but was reduced in patients with low FEV1 or VC. Supranormal work rates were seen in patients with severe right-to-left shunting and SpO2 < 90%, but only if FEV1 was >80% predicted. VSAQ-calculated METS also demonstrated little relationship with SpO2, and in crude and CaO2-adjusted regression, were lower in patients with lower FEV1 or VC. Bronchodilation increased airflow even where spirometry was in the normal range: exhaled nitric oxide measurements were normal in 80% of cases, and unrelated to any PAVM-specific variable. CONCLUSIONS Exercise capacity is reduced by relatively mild airflow limitation (obstructive or restrictive) in the setting of PAVMs.

Search for the Production of a Long-Lived Neutral Particle Decaying within the ATLAS Hadronic Calorimeter in Association with a Z Boson from pp Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2019; 122:151801. [PMID: 31050493 DOI: 10.1103/physrevlett.122.151801] [Citation(s) in RCA: 1] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.2] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 11/07/2018] [Indexed: 06/09/2023]
Abstract
This Letter presents a search for the production of a long-lived neutral particle (Z_{d}) decaying within the ATLAS hadronic calorimeter, in association with a standard model (SM) Z boson produced via an intermediate scalar boson, where Z→ℓ^{+}ℓ^{-} (ℓ=e, μ). The data used were collected by the ATLAS detector during 2015 and 2016 pp collisions with a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36.1±0.8 fb^{-1}. No significant excess of events is observed above the expected background. Limits on the production cross section of the scalar boson times its decay branching fraction into the long-lived neutral particle are derived as a function of the mass of the intermediate scalar boson, the mass of the long-lived neutral particle, and its cτ from a few centimeters to one hundred meters. In the case that the intermediate scalar boson is the SM Higgs boson, its decay branching fraction to a long-lived neutral particle with a cτ approximately between 0.1 and 7 m is excluded with a 95% confidence level up to 10% for m_{Z_{d}} between 5 and 15 GeV.

Metabolic syndrome and time to pregnancy: a retrospective study of nulliparous women. BJOG 2019; 126:852-862. [PMID: 30734474 DOI: 10.1111/1471-0528.15647] [Citation(s) in RCA: 18] [Impact Index Per Article: 3.6] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Accepted: 01/20/2019] [Indexed: 12/26/2022]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine: (1) the association between metabolic syndrome (MetS), time to pregnancy (TTP), and infertility; (2) associations between individual and an increasing number of MetS components, TTP, and infertility; and (3) whether these relationships differ by body mass index (BMI < 30 kg/m2 versus BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2 ). DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. SETTING Multiple centres (in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, and the UK). POPULATION Five thousand five hundred and nineteen low-risk nulliparous pregnant women. METHODS Data on retrospectively reported TTP (number of months to conceive) and a blood sample to assess metabolic health were collected between 14 and 16 weeks of gestation. MetS was defined according to the International Diabetes Federation criteria. Accelerated failure time models with log-normal distribution were conducted to estimate time ratios (TRs) and 95% CIs. Differences in MetS on infertility (TTP > 12 months) were compared using a generalised linear model (Poisson distribution) with robust variance estimates (relative risks, RRs; 95% CIs). All analyses (entire cohort and split by BMI) were controlled for a range of maternal and paternal confounding factors. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Time to pregnancy and infertility. RESULTS Of the 5519 women included, 12.4% (n = 684) had MetS. Compared with women without MetS, women with MetS had a longer TTP (adjusted TR 1.30; 95% CI 1.15-1.46), which was similar in women who were obese and in women who were not obese. Marginal estimates for median TTP in women with MetS versus without MetS was 3.1 months (3.0-3.3 months) versus 4.1 months (3.6-4.5 months), respectively. Women with MetS were at a 62% greater risk for infertility and were at a greater risk for infertility whether they were obese (adjusted RR 1.62; 95% CI 1.15-2.29) or not (adjusted RR 1.73; 95% CI 1.33-2.23). Reduced high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and raised triglycerides (TGs) were the main individual components associated with risk for infertility. CONCLUSION Metabolic syndrome is associated with longer TTP and infertility, independent of obesity. Additional studies, before pregnancy, are required to support our findings and to determine the applicability of which combinations of metabolic abnormalities pose the greatest risk to delayed fertility, or whether individual components are amenable to modification. TWEETABLE ABSTRACT Metabolic syndrome is associated with longer time to pregnancy and infertility, independent of obesity.

Weak correlation of bleeding scores to platelet electron microscopy: A retrospective chart review of pediatric patients with delta-storage pool disorder. Pediatr Blood Cancer 2019; 66:e27505. Abstract
BACKGROUND Delta granule storage pool deficiency (δ-SPD) is a rare platelet disorder in which a deficiency of platelet granules leads to poor aggregation, resulting in varying clinical bleeding phenotypes. Children with δ-SPD have variable laboratory results, making the proper diagnosis and evaluation controversial. OBJECTIVES To describe the demographic and laboratory trends of this population and to assess the value of electron microscopy in diagnostic evaluation and its correlation to bleeding symptoms. METHODS We performed a retrospective review of 109 pediatric patients diagnosed with δ-SPD. We collected demographic information and bleeding scores using a validated bleeding assessment tool. A descriptive and exploratory analysis was performed. RESULTS The majority of patients were female, with an average age at diagnosis of 11.61 years. Females were diagnosed at a significantly older age presenting most often with menorrhagia, while males presented most commonly with epistaxis. The majority showed normal lumiaggregometry, the mean platelet electron microscopy (PEM) value was 2.37, and the mean bleeding score was 6. Bleeding assessment tool and PEM had a significantly weak correlation. CONCLUSIONS Patients with more dense granules per platelet had higher bleeding scores than those with fewer dense granules per platelet. The current body of evidence does not favor the use of PEM in routine clinical practice, and results are difficult to interpret. In patients with severe mucocutaneous bleeding symptoms and normal platelet aggregation studies, consideration should be given to an alternative diagnosis and further evaluation is warranted.

Abstract
A search for doubly charged scalar bosons decaying into W boson pairs is presented. It uses a data sample from proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb - 1 collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV in 2015 and 2016. This search is guided by a model that includes an extension of the Higgs sector through a scalar triplet, leading to a rich phenomenology that includes doubly charged scalar bosons H ± ± . Those bosons are produced in pairs in proton-proton collisions and decay predominantly into electroweak gauge bosons H ± ± → W ± W ± . Experimental signatures with several leptons, missing transverse energy and jets are explored. No significant deviations from the Standard Model predictions are found. The parameter space of the benchmark model is excluded at 95% confidence level for H ± ± bosons with masses between 200 and 220 GeV.

Search for Higgs boson pair production in the γ γ W W ∗ channel using pp collision data recorded at s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector. THE EUROPEAN PHYSICAL JOURNAL. Abstract
Searches for non-resonant and resonant Higgs boson pair production are performed in the γ γ W W ∗ channel with the final state of γ γ ℓ ν j j using 36.1 fb - 1 of proton-proton collision data recorded at a centre-of-mass energy ofs = 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No significant deviation from the Standard Model prediction is observed. A 95% confidence-level observed upper limit of 7.7 pb is set on the cross section for non-resonant production, while the expected limit is 5.4 pb. A search for a narrow-width resonance X decaying to a pair of Standard Model Higgs bosons HH is performed with the same set of data, and the observed upper limits on σ ( p p → X ) × B ( X → H H ) range between 40.0 and 6.1 pb for masses of the resonance between 260 and 500 GeV, while the expected limits range between 17.6 and 4.4 pb. When deriving the limits above, the Standard Model branching ratios of the H → γ γ and H → W W ∗ are assumed.

Measurement of the azimuthal anisotropy of charged particles produced in s NN = 5.02 TeV Pb+Pb collisions with the ATLAS detector. THE EUROPEAN PHYSICAL JOURNAL. C, PARTICLES AND FIELDS 2018; 78:997. Abstract
Measurements of the azimuthal anisotropy in lead-lead collisions ats NN = 5.02 TeV are presented using a data sample corresponding to 0.49nb - 1 integrated luminosity collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in 2015. The recorded minimum-bias sample is enhanced by triggers for "ultra-central" collisions, providing an opportunity to perform detailed study of flow harmonics in the regime where the initial state is dominated by fluctuations. The anisotropy of the charged-particle azimuthal angle distributions is characterized by the Fourier coefficients, v 2 - v 7 , which are measured using the two-particle correlation, scalar-product and event-plane methods. The goal of the paper is to provide measurements of the differential as well as integrated flow harmonics v n over wide ranges of the transverse momentum, 0.5 < p T < 60 GeV, the pseudorapidity, | η | < 2.5, and the collision centrality 0-80%. Results from different methods are compared and discussed in the context of previous and recent measurements in Pb+Pb collisions ats NN = 2.76 TeV and 5.02 TeV . In particular, the shape of the p T dependence of elliptic or triangular flow harmonics is observed to be very similar at different centralities after scaling the v n and p T values by constant factors over the centrality interval 0-60% and the p T range 0.5 < p T < 5 GeV.

Abstract
The Tile Calorimeter is the hadron calorimeter covering the central region of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Approximately 10,000 photomultipliers collect light from scintillating tiles acting as the active material sandwiched between slabs of steel absorber. This paper gives an overview of the calorimeter's performance during the years 2008-2012 using cosmic-ray muon events and proton-proton collision data at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV with a total integrated luminosity of nearly 30 fb - 1 . The signal reconstruction methods, calibration systems as well as the detector operation status are presented. The energy and time calibration methods performed excellently, resulting in good stability of the calorimeter response under varying conditions during the LHC Run 1. Finally, the Tile Calorimeter response to isolated muons and hadrons as well as to jets from proton-proton collisions is presented. The results demonstrate excellent performance in accord with specifications mentioned in the Technical Design Report.

Abstract
A combination of the searches for pair-produced vectorlike partners of the top and bottom quarks in various decay channels (T→Zt/Wb/Ht, B→Zb/Wt/Hb) is performed using 36.1 fb^{-1} of pp collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The observed data are found to be in good agreement with the standard model background prediction in all individual searches. Therefore, combined 95% confidence-level upper limits are set on the production cross section for a range of vectorlike quark scenarios, significantly improving upon the reach of the individual searches. Model-independent limits are set assuming the vectorlike quarks decay to standard model particles. A singlet T is excluded for masses below 1.31 TeV and a singlet B is excluded for masses below 1.22 TeV. Assuming a weak isospin (T,B) doublet and |V_{Tb}|≪|V_{tB}|, T and B masses below 1.37 TeV are excluded.

Abstract
This Letter presents a measurement of γγ→μ^{+}μ^{-} production in Pb+Pb collisions recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 0.49 nb^{-1}. The azimuthal angle and transverse momentum correlations between the muons are measured as a function of collision centrality. The muon pairs are produced from γγ through the interaction of the large electromagnetic fields of the nuclei. The contribution from background sources of muon pairs is removed using a template fit method. In peripheral collisions, the muons exhibit a strong back-to-back correlation consistent with previous measurements of muon pair production in ultraperipheral collisions. The angular correlations are observed to broaden significantly in central collisions. The modifications are qualitatively consistent with rescattering of the muons while passing through the hot matter produced in the collision.

Abstract
A search for resonant and nonresonant pair production of Higgs bosons in the bb[over ¯]τ^{+}τ^{-} final state is presented. The search uses 36.1 fb^{-1} of pp collision data with sqrt[s]=13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in 2015 and 2016. Decays of the τ-lepton pairs with at least one τ lepton decaying to final states with hadrons and a neutrino are considered. No significant excess above the expected background is observed in the data. The cross-section times branching ratio for nonresonant Higgs boson pair production is constrained to be less than 30.9 fb, 12.7 times the standard model expectation, at 95% confidence level. The data are also analyzed to probe resonant Higgs boson pair production, constraining a model with an extended Higgs sector based on two doublets and a Randall-Sundrum bulk graviton model. Upper limits are placed on the resonant Higgs boson pair production cross-section times branching ratio, excluding resonances X in the mass range 305 GeV<m_{X}<402 GeV in the simplified hMSSM minimal supersymmetric model for tanβ=2 and excluding bulk Randall-Sundrum gravitons G_{KK} in the mass range 325 GeV<m_{G_{KK}}<885 GeV for k/M[over ¯]_{Pl}=1.
