Abstract
Gyrovirus galga1 (GyVg1), a member of the Anelloviridae family and Gyrovirus genus, has been detected in chicken and human tissue samples. In this study, the DNA of GyVg1-related gyroviruses in the sera of six dogs and three cats from Central and Eastern China was identified using PCR. Alignment analysis between the nine obtained and reference GyVg1 strains revealed that the genome identity ranged from 99.20% (DOG03 and DOG04 strains) to 96.17% (DOG01 and DOG06 strains). Six recombination events were predicted in multiple strains, including DOG01, DOG05, DOG06, CAT01, CAT02, and CAT03. The predicted major and minor parents of DOG05 came from Brazil. The DOG06 strain is potentially recombined from strains originating from humans and cats, whereas DOG01 is potentially recombined from G17 (ferret-originated) and Ave3 (chicken-originated), indicating that transmissions across species and regions may occur. Sixteen representative amino acid mutation sites were identified: nine in VP1 (12 R/H, 114S/N, 123I/M, 167 L/P, 231 P/S, 237 P/L, 243 R/W, 335 T/A, and 444S/N), four in VP2 (81 A/P, 103 R/H, 223 R/G, and 228 A/T), and three in VP3 (38 M/I, 61 A/T, and 65 V/A). These mutations were only harbored in strains identified in dogs and cats in this study. Whether this is related to host tropism needs further investigation. In this study, GyVg1 was identified in the sera of dogs and cats, and the molecular characteristics prompted the attention of public health.

Abstract
Hepatectomy is widely considered a potential treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Unfortunately, one-third of HCC patients have tumor recurrence within 2 years after surgery (early recurrence), accounting for more than 60% of all recurrence patients. Early recurrence is associated with a worse prognosis. Previous studies have shown that microvascular invasion (MVI) is one of the key factors for early recurrence and poor prognosis in patients with HCC after surgery. This paper reviews the latest literature and summarizes the predictors of MVI, the correlation between MVI and early recurrence, the identification of suspicious nodules or subclinical lesions, and the treatment strategies for MVI-positive HCC. The aim is to explore the management of patients with MVI-positive HCC.

Abstract
Chaphamaparvovirus carnivoran1 (canine Chaphamaparvovirus, also known as Cachavirus [CachaV]) is a novel parvovirus first reported in dog feces collected from the United States in 2017 and China in 2019. To continuously track its infection and evolution status, 276 canine anal swabs were obtained from pet hospitals in central, northern, and eastern China between 2021 and 2023 and screened via polymerase chain reaction; subsequently, a systematic study was conducted. Of these samples, nine (3.3%) were positive for CachaV. Using polymerase chain reaction, whole genome sequences of the nine CachaV-positive strains were amplified. The NS1 amino acid sequence identity between CachaV strains from China and other countries was 96.23-99.85%, whereas the VP1 protein sequence identity was 95.83-100%. CHN230521 demonstrated the highest identity for NS1 amino acids (99.85%) and VP1 amino acids (100%) with NWT-W88 and CP-T015. According to the model prediction of CHN220916-VP1 protein, Met64Thr, Thr107Ala, and Phe131Ser mutations may cause tertiary structural changes in VP1 protein. Interestingly, each of the nine CachaV strains harbored the same site mutations in NS1 (Ser252Cys, Gly253Leu, and Gly254Thr). Although no explicit recombination events were predicted, the clustering and branching of the phylogenetic tree were complicated. Based on the evolution trees for VP1 and NS1, the nine CachaV strains identified from 2021 to 2023 were closely related to those identified in gray wolves and cats. This study may be beneficial for evaluating the prevalence of CachaVs in China, thereby understanding the evolution trend of CachaVs.

Abstract
Hyaline cartilage fibrosis is typically considered an end-stage pathology of osteoarthritis (OA), which results in changes to the extracellular matrix. However, the mechanism behind this is largely unclear. Here, we found that the RNA helicase DDX5 was dramatically downregulated during the progression of OA. DDX5 deficiency increased fibrosis phenotype by upregulating COL1 expression and downregulating COL2 expression. In addition, loss of DDX5 aggravated cartilage degradation by inducing the production of cartilage-degrading enzymes. Chondrocyte-specific deletion of Ddx5 led to more severe cartilage lesions in the mouse OA model. Mechanistically, weakened DDX5 resulted in abundance of the Fn1-AS-WT and Plod2-AS-WT transcripts, which promoted expression of fibrosis-related genes (Col1, Acta2) and extracellular matrix degradation genes (Mmp13, Nos2 and so on), respectively. Additionally, loss of DDX5 prevented the unfolding Col2 promoter G-quadruplex, thereby reducing COL2 production. Together, our data suggest that strategies aimed at the upregulation of DDX5 hold significant potential for the treatment of cartilage fibrosis and degradation in OA.

Abstract
N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methylation is an internal post-transcriptional modification that has been linked to viral multiplication and pathogenicity. To elucidate the conservation patterns of potential 5'-DRACH-3' motifs in avian leukosis virus subgroup J (ALV-J), 149 ALV-J strains (139 isolates from China; ALV-J prototype HPRS-103 from the UK; and 9 strains from the USA, Russia, India, and Pakistan) available in GenBank before December 2023 were retrieved. According to the prediction results of the SRAMP web-server, these ALV-J genomes contained potential DRACH motifs, with the total number ranging from 43 to 64, which were not determined based on the isolation region and time. Conservative analysis suggested that 37 motifs exhibited a conservation of >80%, including 17 motifs with a grading above "high confidence." Although these motifs were distributed in the U5 region of LTRs and major coding regions, they were enriched in the coding regions of p27, p68, p32, and gp85. The most common m6A-motif sequence of the DRACH motif in the ALV-J genome was GGACU. The RNA secondary structure of each conserved motif predicted by SRAMP and RNAstructure web-server was mainly of two types-A-U pair (21/37) and hairpin loop (16/37)-based on the core adenosine. Considering the systematic comparative analysis performed in this study, future thorough biochemical research is warranted to determine the role of m6A modification during the replication and infection of ALV-J. These conservation and distribution analysis of the DRACH motif for potential m6A sites in ALV-J would provide a foundation for the future intervention of ALV-J infection and m6A modification.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The optimal management of unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC) remains an unresolved challenge. There is ongoing debate regarding the efficacy and safety of drug-eluting bead TACE (DEB-TACE) with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). METHODS We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and the Cochrane Library for eligible studies. The main endpoints under investigation were survival outcomes, including overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and time to progression (TTP). Secondary outcomes encompassed tumor response rates and adverse events (AEs). Two researchers conducted the data extraction independently and assessed the quality of the studies. After pooling and analyzing the data, we assessed the heterogeneity and performed both subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis. Additionally, we evaluated the potential for publication bias. RESULTS Eight studies with 1513 patients were finally retrieved. Compared to monotherapy, although bigeminal therapy exhibited improved survival benefits (OS: HR: 0.56, 95 % CI 0.41-0.76, p < 0.001; TTP: HR: 0.72, 95 % CI 0.59-0.87, p = 0.001) and tumor response (ORR: RR: 1.59; 95 % CI 1.19-2.13, p = 0.002; DCR: RR: 1.14; 95 % CI 1.03-1.26, p = 0.010), the reliability of results was affected by significant heterogeneity. In the subgroup analysis, compared to DEB-TACE alone, the bigeminal therapy failed to show any statistical differences. Compared to TKIs, it demonstrated significant advantages in both survival (OS: HR: 0.49, 95 % CI 0.40-0.61, p < 0.001; TTP: HR: 0.60, 95 % CI 0.48-0.75, p < 0.001) and tumor response (ORR: RR: 2.40, 95 % CI 1.86-3.09, p < 0.001; DCR: RR: 1.36, 95 % CI 1.20-1.54, p < 0.001) while low heterogeneity was observed. Concerning safety, DEB-TACE provides no more severe AEs while TKIs-related AEs require close monitoring. CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that DEB-TACE combined with TKIs may be a safe and effective treatment for uHCC, which is more suitable for patients in the advanced stage.

Abstract
The level of folate receptor (FR) has become one of the independent factors for measuring human tumor diseases. The precise quantification of FR is helpful for the early diagnosis and subsequent treatment of tumors. The modification of electrodes is a key issue in ensuring and enhancing the electrochemical biosensing ability. In this study, we in-situ synthesized a nanocomposite material with excellent conductivity and stability by grafting first-generation poly(amidoamine) dendrimers onto the MXene (Ti3C2TX) as the immobilized matrix (PAMAM@MXene). An electrochemical sensor was developed for FR monitor by loading the PAMAM@MXene on screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCEs). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) supported the effective synthesis of PAMAM@MXene. Under optimal conditions, the prepared sensor achieved the quantification of FR with a wide range of concentrations from 10 ng/mL to 1000 ng/mL with a detection limit (LOD) of 5.6 ng/mL. It also exhibited satisfactory selectivity, reproducibility, and stability, which provided the possibility for expanding new pathways in the detection of clinical FR.

Abstract
De novo generation of molecules with the necessary features offers a promising opportunity for artificial intelligence, such as deep generative approaches. However, creating novel compounds having biological activities toward two distinct targets continues to be a very challenging task. In this study, we develop a unique computational framework for the de novo synthesis of bioactive compounds directed at two predetermined therapeutic targets. This framework is referred to as the dual-target ligand generative network. Our approach uses a stochastic policy to explore chemical spaces called a sequence-based simple molecular input line entry system (SMILES) generator. The steps in the high-level workflow would be to gather and prepare the training data for both targets' molecules, build a neural network model and train it to make molecules, create new molecules using generative AI, and then virtually screen the newly validated molecules against the SARS-CoV-2 PLpro and 3CLpro drug targets. Results shows that novel molecules generated have higher binding affinity with both targets than the conventional drug i.e. Remdesivir being used for the treatment of SARS-CoV-2.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Abstract
N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methylation in transcripts has been suggested to influence tumorigenesis in liver tumors caused by the avian leukosis virus subgroup J (ALV-J). However, m6A modifications during ALV-J infection in vitro remain unclear. Herein, we performed m6A and RNA sequencing in ALV-J-infected chicken fibroblasts (DF-1). A total of 51 differentially expressed genes containing differentially methylated peaks were identified, which were markedly enriched in microRNAs (miRNAs) in cancer cells as well as apoptosis, mitophagy and autophagy, RNA degradation, and Hippo and MAPK signaling pathways. Correlation analysis indicated that YTHDC1 (m6A-reader gene) plays a key role in m6A modulation during ALV-J infection. The env gene of ALV-J harbored the strongest peak, and untranslated regions and long terminal repeats also contained peaks of different degrees. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first thorough analysis of m6A patterns in ALV-J-infected DF-1 cells. Combined with miRNA profiles, this study provides a useful basis for future research into the key pathways of ALV-J infection associated with m6A alteration.

Abstract
This study introduces PDMotion, a mobile application comprising 11 digital tests, including those adapted from the MDS-Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS) Part III and novel assessments, for remote Parkinson's Disease (PD) motor symptoms evaluation. Employing machine learning techniques on data from 50 PD patients and 29 healthy controls, PDMotion achieves accuracies of 0.878 for PD status prediction and 0.715 for severity assessment. A post-hoc explanation model is employed to assess the importance of features and tasks in diagnosis and severity evaluation. Notably, novel tasks that are not adapted from MDS-UPDRS Part III like the circle drawing, coordination test, and alternative tapping test are found to be highly important, suggesting digital assessments for PD can go beyond digitizing existing tests. The alternative tapping test emerges as the most significant task. Using its features alone achieves prediction accuracies comparable to the full task set, underscoring its potential as an independent screening tool. This study addresses a notable research gap by digitalizing a wide array of tests, including novel ones, and conducting a comparative analysis of their feature and task importance. These insights provide guidance for task selection and future development in PD mobile assessments, a field previously lacking such comparative studies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate intestinal toxicity in rats and the effects of Nano-cerium dioxide on intestinal flora in rats after oral sub-chronic exposure. METHOD Forty healthy male SD rats were randomly divided into four groups: a control group (deionized water) and three groups treated with different doses of Nano-ceria (e.g., 20 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg, and 500 mg/kg), with 10 rats in each group. The rats were given intragastric administrations (every other day) for 90 days. After the last intragastric administration, fresh fecal samples were collected by pressing the abdomen, and the animals were sacrificed. Jejunum, ileum and cecum tissues were retained for pathological analysis by Hematoxylin-eosin staining. The stool samples of rats were sequenced by the Illumina NovaSeq sequencing platform, and the sequencing results were further analyzed by QIIME2 software. RESULTS The histopathology results show that compared with the control group, in the middle- and high-dose groups, epithelial tissue was shed, lamina propria glandular structures were damaged or disappeared, and large numbers of inflammatory cells were distributed in the mucosa. The intestinal flora results show that there were no significant differences in the α-/β-diversities in each Nano-ceria-treated group compared with the control group (P>0.05). Compared with the control group, the intestinal pathogenic bacteria, Mucispirillum and Streptococcus increased significantly after Nano-cerium dioxide ingestion, while Weissella decreased. The abundances of Akkermansia in all Nano-ceria-treated groups were higher than those in the control group, but the abundances decreased with increasing dose. MetagenomesSeq analysis show that, compared with the control group, the abundances of S24-7, Lactobacillus and Clostridiales in all experimental groups significantly decreased. CONCLUSIONS The sub-chronic toxicity of Nano-cerium dioxide to rats can affect the structure and abundance of intestinal microflora, long-term exposure to high doses (>100 mg/kg) causes enteritis, but there was no significant difference in the diversity of gut microbiota. Therefore, we infer that the enteritis in rats may be associated with the relative ratios of the pathogenic bacteria and intestinal probiotics, and increased of the intestinal pathogenic bacteria can disrupted intestinal homeostasis.

Abstract
Purpose Early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) through surveillance could reduce this cancer-associated mortality. We aimed to develop and validate algorithms using panel serum biomarkers to identify HCC in a real-world multi-center study in China. Patients and Methods A total of 10,359 eligible subjects, including HCCs and benign liver diseases (BLDs), were recruited from six Chinese medical centers. The three nomograms were built using logistic regression and their sensitivities and specificities were carefully assessed in training and validation cohorts. HCC patients after surgical resection were followed to determine the prognostic values of these algorithms. Prospective surveillance performance was assessed in a cohort of chronic hepatitis B patients during 144 weeks follow-up. Results Independent risk factors such as alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), lens cuinaris agglutinin-reactive fraction of AFP (AFP-L3), des-gamma-carboxy prothrombin (DCP), albumin (ALB), and total bilirubin (TBIL) obtained from train cohort were used to construct three nomograms (LAD, C-GALAD, and TAGALAD) using logistic regression. In the training and two validation cohorts, their AUCs were all over 0.900, and the higher AUCs appeared in TAGALAD and C-GALAD. Furthermore, the three nomograms could effectively stratify HCC into two groups with different survival and recurrence outcomes in follow-up validation. Notably, TAGALAD could predict HCC up to 48 weeks (AUC: 0.984) and 24 weeks (AUC: 0.900) before clinical diagnosis. Conclusion The proposed nomograms generated from real-world Chinese populations are effective and easy-to use for HCC surveillance, diagnosis, as well as prognostic evaluation in various clinical scenarios based on data feasibility.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cognitive impairment (CI) is a significant public health concern, and bioactive peptides have shown potential as therapeutic agents. However, information about their synergistic effects on cognitive function is still limited. Here, we investigated the synergistic effects of tilapia head protein hydrolysate (THPH) and walnut protein hydrolysate (WPH) in mitigating CI induced by scopolamine in mice. RESULTS The results showed that the combined supplementation of THPH and WPH (mass ratio, 1:1) was superior to either individual supplement in enhancing spatial memory and object recognition abilities in CI mice, and significantly lessened brain injury in CI mice by alleviating neuronal damage, reducing oxidative stress and stabilizing the cholinergic system. In addition, the combined supplementation was found to be more conducive to remodeling the gut microbiota structure in CI mice by not only remarkably reducing the ratio of Firmicutes to Bacteroidota, but also specifically enriching the genus Roseburia. On the other hand, the combined supplementation regulated the disorders of sphingolipid and amino acid metabolism in CI mice, particularly upregulating glutathione and histidine metabolism, and displayed a stronger ability to increase the expression of genes and proteins related to the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)/TrkB/CrEB signaling pathway in the brain. CONCLUSION These findings demonstrate that tilapia head and walnut-derived protein hydrolysates exerted synergistic effects in ameliorating CI, which was achieved through modulation of gut microbiota, serum metabolic pathways and BDNF signaling pathways. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Peritoneal metastasis (PM) continues to limit the clinical efficacy of gastric cancer (GC). Early growth response 1 (EGR1) plays an important role in tumor cell proliferation, angiogenesis and invasion. However, the role of EGR1 derived from the tumor microenvironment in reshaping the phenotypes of GC cells and its specific molecular mechanisms in increasing the potential for PM are still unclear. In this study, we reported that EGR1 was significantly up-regulated in mesothelial cells from GC peritoneal metastases, leading to enhanced epithelial-mesenchymal transformation (EMT) and stemness phenotypes of GC cells under co-culture conditions. These phenotypes were achieved through the transcription and secretion of TGF-β1 by EGR1 in mesothelial cells, which could regulate the expression and internalization of CD44s. After being internalized into the cytoplasm, CD44s interacted with STAT3 to promote STAT3 phosphorylation and activation, and induced EMT and stemness gene transcription, thus positively regulating the metastasis of GC cells. Moreover, TGF-β1 secretion in the PM microenvironment was significantly increased compared with the matched primary tumor. The blocking effect of SHR-1701 on TGF-β1 was verified by inhibiting peritoneal metastases in xenografts. Collectively, the interplay of EGR1/TGF-β1/CD44s/STAT3 signaling between mesothelial cells and GC cells induces EMT and stemness phenotypes, offering potential as a therapeutic target for PM of GC.

Abstract
Sepsis is a systemic syndrome involving physiological, pathological, and biochemical abnormalities precipitated by infection and is a major global public health problem. Endothelial cells (ECs) dysfunction is a major contributor to sepsis-induced multiple organ failure. This bibliometric analysis aimed to identify and characterize the status, evolution of the field, and new research trends of ECs and sepsis over the past 20 years. For this analysis, the Web of Science Core Collection database was searched to identify relevant publications on ECs in sepsis published between January 1, 2002, and December 31, 2022. Microsoft Excel 2021, VOSviewer software, CiteSpace software, and the online analysis platform of literature metrology (http://bibliometric.com) were used to visualize the trends of publications' countries/regions, institutions, authors, journals, and keywords. In total, 4200 articles were identified and screened, primarily originating from 86 countries/regions and 3489 institutions. The USA was the leading contributor to this research field, providing 1501 articles (35.74 %). Harvard University's scientists were the most prolific, with 129 articles. Overall, 21,944 authors were identified, among whom Bae Jong Sup was the most prolific, contributing 129 publications. Additionally, Levi Marcel was the most frequently co-cited author, appearing 538 times. The journals that published the most articles were SHOCK, CRITICAL CARE MEDICINE, and PLOS ONE, accounting for 10.79 % of the total. The current emerging hotspots are concentrated on "endothelial glycocalyx," "NLRP3 inflammasome," "extracellular vesicle," "biomarkers," and "COVID-19," among others. In conclusion, this study provides a comprehensive overview of the scientific productivity and emerging research trends in the field of ECs in sepsis. The evidence supporting the significant role of ECs in both physiological and pathological responses to sepsis is continuously growing. More in-depth studies of the molecular mechanisms underlying sepsis-induced endothelial dysfunction and EC-targeted therapies are warranted in the future.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the association between congenital hypothyroidism (CH) and the adverse outcomes during hospitalization in very low birth weight infants (VLBWI). Methods: This prospective, multicenter observational cohort study was conducted based on the data from the Sino-northern Neonatal Network (SNN). Data of 5 818 VLBWI with birth weight <1 500 g and gestational age between 24-<37 weeks that were admitted to the 37 neonatal intensive care units from January 1st, 2019 to December 31st, 2022 were collected and analyzed. Thyroid function was first screened at 7 to 10 days after birth, followed by weekly tests within the first 4 weeks, and retested at 36 weeks of corrected gestational age or before discharge. The VLBWI were assigned to the CH group or non-CH group. Chi-square test, Fisher exact probability method, Wilcoxon rank sum test, univariate and multivariate Logistic regression were used to analyze the relationship between CH and poor prognosis during hospitalization in VLBWI. Results: A total of 5 818 eligible VLBWI were enrolled, with 2 982 (51.3%) males and the gestational age of 30 (29, 31) weeks. The incidence of CH was 5.5% (319 VLBWI). Among the CH group, only 121 VLBWI (37.9%) were diagnosed at the first screening. Univariate Logistic regression analysis showed that CH was associated with increased incidence of extrauterine growth retardation (EUGR) (OR=1.31(1.04-1.64), P<0.05) and retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) of stage Ⅲ and above (OR=1.74(1.11-2.75), P<0.05). However, multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed no significant correlation between CH and EUGR, moderate to severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia, grade Ⅲ to Ⅳ intraventricular hemorrhage, neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis in stage Ⅱ or above, and ROP in stage Ⅲ or above (OR=1.04 (0.81-1.33), 0.79 (0.54-1.15), 1.15 (0.58-2.26), 1.43 (0.81-2.53), 1.12 (0.70-1.80), all P>0.05). Conclusion: There is no significant correlation between CH and in-hospital adverse outcomes, possibly due to timely diagnosis and active replacement therapy.

Abstract
A proportion of gastric cancer (GC) patients suffer from peritoneal metastasis (PM) in the late stage of tumor and these patients have a poor prognosis. To provide more care for GC patient with PM, a deeper exploration of the molecular characteristics of GC-PM is needed. Here we performed the in vitro and in vivo study to illustrate the effect of HOXA11 over-expressed GC cells on peritoneal mesothelial cells (HMrSV5), transcriptomics analyses of HMrSV5 cells co-cultured with HOXA11 over-expressed GC cells, counterparts or alone, cytokine array analyses of serum-free culture medium of HOXA11 over-expressed GC cells, we validated our findings through genetic manipulation of HMrSV5 cells and neutralizing antibodies targeting cytokines secreted by HOXA11 over-expressed GC cells in vitro, as well as utilized human peritoneal metastatic lesions to validate expression of potential targets. We identified that HOXA11 over-expressed GC cells strongly propelled mesothelial fibrosis in vivo and in vitro, and HOXA11 regulated paracrine and autocrine of PDGF BB and TGF β1 in GC cells to propel mesothelial fibrosis. Meanwhile, HOXA11 over-expressed GC cells drove PDGF BB and TGF β1 secretion to activate developmental-process related genes in HMrSV5 cells, including Egr1, which processes dependent on miR-181a-5p. Then, Egr1 could mediate peritoneal mesothelial fibrosis. Correspondingly, Egr1 over-expressed HMrSV5 cells supported migration and peritoneal dissemination of GC cells. Together our results suggest that a feedforward amplifier circuity governing GC cells and mesothelial cells in peritoneum contribute to peritoneal metastasis of GC cells.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dementia increases as individuals age. Aging physicians represent a growing population. Studies have demonstrated there are physicians with cognitive impairments practicing medicine. The medico-legal consequences of physicians with cognitive impairments have not been investigated. METHODS The Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) is a national medical association with 108,000 members who advise and assist doctors with medico-legal matters. They maintain a national repository of legal actions and complaints to regulatory bodies and hospitals. We looked at civil-legal and regulatory college cases closed over a 10-year period associated with physicians aged ≥55. A word search of the cases was conducted using "Dementia, Alzheimer, Cognitive impairment, Cognitive decline, Memory loss, Memory issues, Fit for/to practice." RESULTS The CMPA closed 67,566 cases between 2012 and 2021 and 16% (10,599) involved members ≥55. A mixed methodology approach identified 65 cases associated with physician's cognitive ability to practice medicine. Of these 65 cases, the average age of physician was 71.3 (56.1-88.5). The proportion of cases where concern was associated with a physician's cognitive ability to practice medicine increased, from 0.2% of cases in 55-60-year-olds, to 7.7% in physicians over 80. INTERPRETATION As physicians age, concerns about cognitive impairment are more likely to contribute to medico-legal matters.

Abstract
VPS35 is a key subunit of the retromer complex responsible for recognising cytosolic retrieval signals in cargo and is involved in neurodegenerative disease and tumour progression. However, the function and molecular mechanism of VPS35 in gastric cancer (GC) remains largely unknown. Here, we demonstrated that VPS35 was significantly upregulated in GC, which was associated with poor survival. VPS35 promoted GC cell proliferation and metastasis both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, VPS35 activated FAK-SRC kinases through integrin-mediated outside-in signalling, leading to the activation of YAP and subsequent IL-6 expression induction in tumour cells. What's more, combined mass spectrometry analysis of MGC-803 cell and bioinformatic analysis, we found that phosphorylation of VPS35 was enhanced in GC cells, and phosphorylated VPS35 has enhanced interaction with ITGB3. VPS35 interacted with ITGB3 and affected the recycling of ITGB3 in GC cells. Gain- and loss-of-function experiments revealed that VPS35 promoted tumour proliferation and metastasis via the IL-6/STAT3 pathway. Interestingly, we also found that STAT3 directly bound to the VPS35 promoter and increased VPS35 transcription, thereby establishing a positive regulatory feedback loop. In addition, we demonstrated that VPS35 knockdown sensitised GC cells to 5-FU and cisplatin. These findings provide evidence that VPS35 promotes tumour proliferation and metastasis, and highlight the potential of targeting VPS35- and IL-6/STAT3-mediated tumour interactions as promising therapeutic strategies for GC.

Abstract
Objective There is little known about the medico-legal risk for infectious disease specialists in Canada. The objective of this study was to identify the causes of these medico-legal risks with the goal of improving patient safety and outcomes. Methods A 10-year retrospective analysis of Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) closed medico-legal cases from 2012 to 2021 was performed. Peer expert criticism was used to identify factors that contributed to the medico-legal cases at the provider, team, or system level, and were contrasted with the patient complaint. Results During the study period there were 571 infectious disease physician members of the CMPA. There were 96 patient medico-legal cases: 45 College complaints, 40 civil legal matters, and 11 hospital complaints. Ten cases were associated with severe patient harm or death. Patients were most likely to complain about perceived deficient assessments (54%), diagnostic errors (53%), inadequate monitoring or follow-up (20%), and unprofessional manner (20%). In contrast, peer experts were most critical of the areas of diagnostic assessment (20%), deficient assessment (10%), failure to perform test/intervention (8%), and failure to refer (6%). Conclusion While infectious disease physicians tend to have lower medico-legal risks compared to other health care providers, these risks still do exist. This descriptive study provides insights into the types of cases, presenting conditions, and patient allegations associated with their practice.

Abstract
Diffraction sets a natural limit for the spatial resolution of acoustic wave fields, hindering the generation and recording of object details and manipulation of sound at subwavelength scales. We propose to overcome this physical limit by utilizing nonlinear acoustics. Our findings indicate that, contrary to the commonly utilized cumulative nonlinear effect, it is in fact the local nonlinear effect that is crucial in achieving subdiffraction control of acoustic waves. We theoretically and experimentally demonstrate a deep subwavelength spatial resolution up to λ/38 in the far field at a distance 4.4 times the Rayleigh distance. This Letter represents a new avenue towards deep subdiffraction control of sound, and may have far-reaching impacts on various applications such as acoustic holograms, imaging, communication, and sound zone control.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gut dysbiosis in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients causes chronic inflammation and metabolic disorders which result in a series of complications, probably playing an important role in PD technique failure. The reduction in gut microbial diversity was a common feature of gut dysbiosis. The objective was to explore the relationship between gut microbial diversity and technique failure in PD patients. METHODS The gut microbiota was analyzed by 16s ribosomal RNA gene amplicon sequencing. Cox proportional hazards models were used to identify association between gut microbial diversity and technique failure in PD patients. RESULTS In this study, a total of 101 PD patients were enrolled. During a median follow-up of 38 months, we found that lower diversity was independently associated with a higher risk of technique failure (hazard ratio [HR], 2.682; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.319-5.456; p = 0.006). In addition, older age (HR, 1.034; 95% CI, 1.005-1.063; p = 0.020) and the history of diabetes (HR, 5.547; 95% CI, 2.218-13.876; p < 0.001) were also independent predictors for technique failure of PD patients. The prediction model constructed on the basis of three independent risk factors above performed well in predicting technique failure at 36 and 48 months (36 months: area under the curve [AUC] = 0.861; 95% CI, 0.836-0.886; 48 months: AUC = 0.815; 95% CI, 0.774-0.857). CONCLUSION Gut microbial diversity was independently correlated with technique failure in PD patients, and some specific microbial taxa may serve as a potential therapeutic target for decreasing PD technique failure.

Abstract
Chicken chaphamaparvovirus (CkChpV) is a newly emerging pathogen that is currently prevalent in chickens with diarrhea symptoms. To diagnose CkChpV more conveniently and rapidly, this study established a multienzyme isothermal rapid amplification (MIRA) assay, with a reaction time of only 15 min and optimal reaction temperature of 38°C. In combination with the lateral flow dipstick assay, the CkChpV-MIRA assay can be completed within 20 min. We revealed that the detection limit of the MIRA assay using standard plasmids as templates was as low as 21.3 copies, and its sensitivity was 100 times higher than that of nested PCR. Moreover, the designed primer set and probe could only detect CkChpV specifically, and there was no cross reaction with avian nephritis virus, rotavirus, chicken parvovirus virus, Newcastle disease virus, and infectious bronchitis virus, which may cause diarrhea. These findings demonstrated that the CkChpV-MIRA assay established in this study is convenient, sensitive, and specific and does not require sophisticated equipment. It is more suitable for the detection of CkChpV in clinical samples.

Abstract
Hepatic hemangioma, focal nodular hyperplasia, and hepatic adenoma are the most common benign solid liver tumors. However, their surgical indications have been the subject of debate. Minimally invasive liver resection reduces the cost of surgery and may lead to overtreatment of benign liver tumors. Recently, there has been a growing understanding of the etiology, pathogenesis, and natural history of these tumors. Great progress has also been made in imaging. The use of MRI and contrast agents has improved the accuracy of non-invasive diagnosis of these tumors, and especially in the identification of specific molecular subtypes of liver adenoma. These factors have resulted in alterations of surgical indications for these tumors. This article examines recent literature and it discusses the surgical indications for hepatic hemangioma, focal nodular hyperplasia, and hepatic adenoma while summarizing modifications in clinical management.

Abstract
Diabetic foot (DF) is one of the serious chronic complications of diabetes. Accurate prediction of the risk of DF may take timely intervention measures to prevent its occurrence. The understanding of metabolomic changes in the progression of diabetes to DF may reveal new targets for interventions. We hypothesized that changes in metabolic pathways during DF would lead to changes in the metabolic profile, which could be predictive signature specific to it. In the present study, 43 participants with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), 32 T2DM participants with DF (T2DM-F), and 36 healthy subjects were enrolled and their serum samples were used for targeted and nonpolar metabolic analysis with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Differential metabolites related to T2DM-F were discovered in metabolomic analysis. Lasso machine learning regression model, random forest algorithm, causal mediation analysis, disease risk assessment, and clinical decision model were carried out. T2DM and T2DM-F groups could be distinguished with the healthy control group. The differential metabolites were all enriched in alpha-linolenic acid and linoleic acid metabolic pathways including arachidonic acid, docosapentaenoic-acid 22N-6, and docosahexaenoic-acid, which were significantly lower in the T2DM and T2DM-F groups compared with the healthy control group. The differential metabolites in T2DM-F vs T2DM groups were enriched to branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) catabolic pathways involving in methylmalonic acid, succinic acid, 3-methyl-2-oxovaleric acid, and ketoleucine, which were the BCAA catabolic intermediates and significantly lower in the T2DM-F compared with the T2DM group except for succinic acid. We reveal a new set of predictive signatures and associate the lower BCAA catabolic intermediates with the progression from T2DM to T2DM-F.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Whether late-life depression or depressive symptoms are a risk factor of future stroke in elders is important for prevention measures. A systematic review and meta-analysis were used to investigate the association between depression or depressive symptoms and risk of stroke in elders. METHODS Embase, MEDLINE, PsychINFO, and Web of Science were searched for studies published from inception to January 6, 2023. Prospective cohort studies reporting quantitative estimates of the association between depression or depressive symptoms and stroke morbidity in participants aged over 60 years were included. Reviews, meta-analyses, case reports, retrospective, cross-sectional, and theoretical studies were excluded. Study screening and data extraction were conducted by two researchers independently. Random-effects meta-analysis was used to estimate pooled adjusted hazard ratios (HRs). Publication bias was evaluated via the symmetry of funnel plots and Egger tests. The Newcastle Ottawa Scale was used to assess the risk of bias. The quality of evidence of synthesis was assessed by the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE). The primary outcome was any stroke, including non-fatal, fatal, ischemic and hemorrhagic sub-types. RESULTS Seventeen studies of 57,761 patients in total were included in the meta-analysis. A positive association was found between depressive disorder or symptoms and stroke risk (HR: 1.39; 95% CI: 1.22-1.58; p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Late-life depression or depressive symptoms are a significant risk factor for stroke in older people. Regular assessment and more effective management of associated comorbidities are recommended to reduce stroke risk.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Important roles of INHBB in various malignancies are increasingly identified. The underlying mechanisms in gastric cancer (GC) microenvironment are still greatly unexplored. METHODS The clinical significance of INHBB and the correlation between INHBB and p-p65 in GC were assessed through analyzing publicly available databases and human paraffin embedded GC tissues. The biological crosstalk of INHBB between GC cells and fibroblasts was explored both in vitro and in vivo. RNA-seq analyses were performed to determine the mechanisms which regulating fibroblasts reprogramming. Luciferase reporter assay and chromatin immunoprecipitation (CHIP) assay were used to verify the binding relationship of p65 and INHBB in GC cells. RESULTS Our study showed that INHBB level was significantly higher in GC, and that increased INHBB was associated with poor survival. INHBB positively regulates the proliferation, migration, and invasion of GC cells in vitro. Also, activin B promotes the occurrence of GC by reprogramming fibroblasts into cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs). The high expression of INHBB in GC cells activates the NF-κB pathway of normal gastric fibroblasts by secreting activin B, and promotes fibroblasts proliferation, migration, and invasion. In addition, activin B activates NF-κB pathway by controlling TRAF6 autoubiquitination to induce TAK1 phosphorylation in fibroblasts. Fibroblasts activated by activin B can induce the activation of p65 phosphorylation of GC cells by releasing pro-inflammatory factors IL-1β. p65 can directly bind to the INHBB promoter and increase the INHBB transcription of GC cells, thus establishing a positive regulatory feedback loop to promote the progression of GC. CONCLUSIONS GC cells p65/INHBB/activin B and fibroblasts p65/IL-1β signal loop led to the formation of a whole tumor-promoting inflammatory microenvironment, which might be a promising therapeutic target for GC.

Abstract
Higher-order topological band theory has transformed the landscape of topological phases in quantum and classical systems. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a two-dimensional higher-order topological phase, referred to as the multiple chiral topological phase, which is protected by a multipole chiral number (MCN). Our realization differs from previous higher-order topological phases in that it possesses a larger-than-unity MCN, which arises when the nearest-neighbor couplings are weaker than long-range couplings. Our phase has an MCN of 4, protecting the existence of 4 midgap topological corner modes at each corner. The multiple topological corner modes demonstrated here could lead to enhanced quantum-inspired devices for sensing and computing. Our study also highlights the rich and untapped potential of long-range coupling manipulation for future research in topological phases.

Abstract
Chaphamaparvovirus carnivoran2 (feline chaphamaparvovirus, FeChPV) is a novel feline parvovirus originally detected in Canadian cats in 2019, and it has also been identified in domestic cats in other nations. To evaluate the prevalence and genetic diversity of FeChPV in China, rectal swabs of pet cats from Henan, Guangdong, Anhui, Zhejiang, and Inner Mongolia provinces were collected. Of the 230 samples subjected to nested polymerase chain reaction, 6 (2.6%) tested positive for FeChPV. Although all positive samples were from cats with diarrhea, statistical analyses revealed no correlation between the presence of the virus and clinical symptoms (p > 0.05). Phylogenetic trees of nonstructural protein 1 (NS1) and capsid protein (VP1) demonstrated that these six new strains formed a major branch with other reference FeChPV strains and considerably differed from Chaphamaparvoviru carnivoran1. Moreover, recombination analysis revealed that the FeChPV strain CHN20201025, previously detected in a dog, was a recombinant and strains CHN200228 and CHN180917, identified in this study, were the closest relatives to the parental strains. The findings of this study and a previous study wherein FeChPV was detected in dogs suggest that FeChPV can propagate between species. Additionally, these findings indicate that the genetic diversity of FeChPV can provide an insight into the epidemiological status of FeChPV in China.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Nonsuicidal Self-Injury (NSSI) in China has increasingly interested clinicians, although few studies have investigated its risk and protective factors. This study examined the risk factors of NSSI among Chinese adolescents. METHODS The researchers recruited adolescent participants with NSSI from a hospital outpatient clinic to form a case group and recruited adolescents without NSSI who provided informed consent from the school to form a control group. Participants completed a questionnaire, and data were analyzed using logistic regression. RESULTS A total of 138 cases and 276 controls participated in this study. Binary multivariate logistic regression analysis with adjusting for age and sex showed that domestic violence (OR = 8.615, 95%CI: 3.081-24.091), parental overconcern (OR = 6.995, 95%CI: 3.447-14.192), guilt (OR = 4.949, 95%CI: 2.227-10.996), and school bullying (OR = 21.676, 95%CI: 6.799-69.109) increased the risk of NSSI, while peer support (OR = 0.068, 95%CI: 0.030-0.150) and living in an urban environment (OR = 0.157, 95%CI: 0.056-0.437) decreased the risk of NSSI. CONCLUSION Some psychosocial factors were confirmed to be independent risk and protective factors for NSSI in this study. However, the clinical significance of the results needs to be interpreted with caution due to sample size limitations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obesity can induce myocardial pyroptosis, but the exact mechanism is still unknown. A recent study reported the association of opa-interacting protein 5-antisense transcript 1 (OIP5-AS1), an evolutionarily conserved long noncoding RNA, with pyroptosis. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the role of OIP5-AS1 in obesity-induced myocardial pyroptosis. METHODS OIP5-AS1 was downregulated in H9c2 cells, followed by treatment with 400 μM palmitic acid (PA). Propidium iodide (PI) staining, lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) release assay, caspase-1 activity assay, IL-1β, and IL-18 activity assay were performed to detect pyroptotic phenotype. The interaction between OIP5-AS1 and microRNAs (miRNAs) was analyzed using RNA pull-down and luciferase assay. The effect of OIP5-AS1 knockdown in high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity rat on cardiac function, myocardial hypertrophy, fibrosis, and remodeling was evaluated. RESULTS Fat deposition was observed in cardiomyocytes 24 h after PA treatment; moreover, PA-treated cardiomyocytes showed significant increase in the rate of pyroptotic cells, release of LDH, protein expressions of NLRP3 and cleaved caspase-1, and the activity of caspase-1, IL-1β, and IL-18 as well as OIP5-AS1 expression. These findings suggested that PA activated pyroptosis and induced OIP5-AS1 expression in cardiomyocytes. Moreover, OIP5-AS1 knockdown inhibited PA-induced pyroptosis. Mechanistically, OIP5-AS1 was found to specifically bind to miR-22 and to regulate NLRP3 inflammasome-mediated pyroptosis via miR-22. Furthermore, OIP5-AS1 knockdown ameliorated HFD-induced cardiac dysfunction, myocardial hypertrophy, fibrosis, remodeling, and pyroptosis. CONCLUSION Our results revealed that downregulation of OIP5-AS1 can inhibit obesity-induced myocardial pyroptosis via miR-22/NLRP3 inflammasome axis. This finding lays a foundation of gene therapy for heart disease targeting OIP5-AS1.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Physician documentation plays a central role in the delivery of safe patient care. It describes a physician's clinical decision-making and supports essential communication between healthcare providers within the patient's circle of care. Good documentation can potentially also decrease a physician's medico-legal risk. This study provides examples of documentation issues attributed to physicians practicing emergency medicine as identified by peer experts in civil legal actions, regulatory authority complaints (College) and hospital complaints (collectively, medico-legal cases) in Canada. METHODS We conducted a descriptive study and content analysis of medico-legal cases involving emergency department physicians from a national repository at the Canadian Medical Protective Association. Cases with peer expert criticism of an emergency physician's documentation, which were closed between 2016 and 2020, and occurred in an emergency department were included in our analysis. RESULTS Of the 1628 cases involving emergency medicine, our inclusion criteria identified that absent or insufficiently detailed documentation was present in 24% of cases (391/1,628). A detailed review of 20% of the cases (79/391), selected randomly, found that documentation issues were most often associated with the assessment and investigation stage of care. This pertained to documenting details of the clinical examination, relevant medical history, diagnosis, and differential diagnosis. CONCLUSIONS For physicians practicing emergency medicine, criticism of documentation was frequently observed in medico-legal cases. Based on the findings of this study and the expert criticism related to documentation, emergency medicine physicians may consider reflecting upon their documentation of the care provided to determine if their documentation provides a clear and accurate chronicle of the care and the rationale for their clinical decisions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Assisted human reproduction (AHR) is a complex process of clinical, laboratory, and organizational activities that involve risk and safety. The regulation of the Canadian fertility industry is a mix of federal and provincial/territorial responsibility. Oversight of care is fragmented as patients, donors, and surrogates may each live in different jurisdictions. The Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) undertook a retrospective analysis of CMPA medico-legal data to identify the contributing factors to medico-legal risks for Canadian physicians providing AHR services. METHODS Experienced CMPA medical analysts, reviewed information from closed cases. A previously reported medical coding methodology was applied to a 5-year retrospective descriptive analysis of CMPA cases closed between 2015 and 2019, involving physicians caring for patients with infertility seeking AHR. Class action legal cases were excluded. All contributing factors were analyzed using the CMPA Contributing Factor Framework.1 Cases were de-identified and reported at the aggregate level for analysis to ensure confidentiality for both patients and health care providers. RESULTS There were 860 gynaecology cases with comprehensive information and peer expert review. Of these, 43 cases involved patients seeking AHR. Due to the small sample size, the results presented are for descriptive purposes only. AHR cases had an unfavourable outcome for the physician in 29 cases. Diagnostic error was noted in 10 cases. The most common patient allegations were related to a breakdown in communication. Peer experts were critical of patient care in 34 cases. These were divided among provider, team, and system factors. CONCLUSIONS Diagnostic error was the most common clinical concern. Deficient clinical decision-making and communication breakdown with the patient contributed to these errors. Enhanced clinical decision-making, through heightened situational awareness, strengthened diagnostic test follow-up, and improved communication with the health care team may reduce medico-legal complaints related to AHR and improve patient safety.

Abstract
To evaluate the recent evolution of CIAV in China, 43 flocks of chickens from the provinces of Henan, Jiangsu, Hubei, and Anhui were screened via polymerase chain reaction during 2020-2022. Of these, 27 flocks tested positive for CIAV nucleic acids, including 12 which were positive for other immunosuppression viruses. Additionally, 27 CIAV strains were isolated, and their whole genomes were sequenced. The AH2001 and JS2002 strains shared the highest identity at 99.56%, and the HB2102 and HB2101 strains shared the lowest identity at 95.34%. Based on the genome sequences of these strains and reference strains, a phylogenetic tree was constructed and divided into eight main branches. Most of the strains were grouped with the East Asian strains, whereas the HB2101 strain belonged to the Brazil and Argentina cluster. A recombination event was detected in multiple strains, in which AH2002 recombined from KJ728827/China/2014 (from Taiwan Province) and HN2203, and AH2202 recombined from KX811526/China/2017 (from Shandong Province) and HN2203. All the obtained strains had a highly pathogenic Gln amino acid site at position 394 of the VP1. Overall, our findings demonstrate the importance of CIAV monitoring and provide data that aid in understanding the evolution of CIAV.

Abstract
The exosome plays important roles in driving tumor metastasis, while the role of exosome proteins during organ-specific metastasis in gastric cancer has not been fully understood. To address this question, peripheral blood samples from 12 AGC patients with organ-specific metastasis, including distant lymphatic, hepatic and peritoneal metastasis, were collected to purify exosomes and to detect exosome proteins by Nano-HPLC-MS/MS. Gastric cancer cell lines were used for in vitro experiments. Peripheral blood sample and ascites sample from one patient were further analyzed by single-cell RNA sequencing. GO and KEGG enrichment analysis showed different expression proteins of hepatic metastasis were correlated with lipid metabolism. For peritoneal metastasis, actin cytoskeleton regulation and glycolysis/gluconeogenesis could be enriched. ILK1 and CD14 were correlated with hepatic and peritoneal metastasis, respectively. Overexpression of CD14 and ILK1 impacted the colony formation ability of gastric cancer and increased expression of Vimentin. CD14 derived from immune cells in malignant ascites correlated with high activation of chemokine- and cytokine-mediated signaling pathways. In summary, biological functions of plasma exosome proteins among AGC patients with different metastatic modes were distinct, in which ILK1 and CD14 were correlated with organ-specific metastasis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to observe the alveolar bone height changes in the anterior tooth region after orthodontic treatment for Angle's Class II division 1 malocclusion. METHODS Ninety-three patients treated from January 2015 to December 2019 were retrospectively analyzed, of whom 48 received tooth extraction and 45 did not. RESULTS After orthodontic treatment, the alveolar bone heights in the anterior tooth regions of tooth extraction and non-extraction groups decreased by 67.31% and 66.94%, respectively. Except for the maxillary and mandibular canines in the tooth extraction group as well as the labial side of maxillary anterior teeth and the palatal side of maxillary central incisors of the non-extraction group, the alveolar bone heights of other sites significantly reduced (P<0.05). The reduction in the alveolar bone height of the tooth extraction group significantly exceeded that of the non-extraction group on the palatal side of maxillary incisors and the lingual side of mandibular anterior teeth (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS Alveolar bone height in the anterior tooth region decreases after orthodontic treatment for Angle's Class II division 1 malocclusion, being closely related to tooth position together with movement direction and amplitude.

Abstract
Cats are a potential source of genetic diversity for parvoviruses. Herein, 134 samples were collected from cats with clinical gastroenteritis and analyzed for the presence of viral DNA via polymerase chain reaction, which revealed 48 positive samples. Identity analysis of VP2 nucleotide sequences indicated that these 48 strains, belonging to feline panleukopenia virus (FPV) and canine parvovirus type-2 (CPV-2; including new CPV-2a and CPV-2c genotypes), shared 94.59-99.94% nucleotide identity with the reference strains. The FPV strain F8 (isolated from Vietnam) appeared to be a recombinant of strains HB2003 and JS1901, whereas the Chinese CPV-2b strain BM-(11) isolated in 2011 was believed to be a recombinant of strains AH2008 and JS1901. In phylogenetic tree analysis based on VP2 nucleotide sequences, all obtained FPV strains and most reference FPV strains were clustered together, except strain BJ-22, which originated from monkeys. Further, two new CPV-2a strains (AH2005 and AH2008) were close to the newly reported Chinese CPV-2a strains but were distant from the other CPV-2a strains, namely CPV-339 (from the United States) and K022 (from South Korea). Additionally, the FPV and CPV-2 strains had high mutation rates in the antigenic regions of the VP2 protein. According to model prediction of the CPV-VP2 protein, these mutations may cause changes in the tertiary structure of VP2. The findings of this study can be used to improve the pre-evaluation of vaccination efficacy against diseases caused by FPV and CPV-2 in domestic cats and understand their genotypic transmission and mutation trends.

Abstract
Background Poststroke depression (PSD) is the most frequent neuropsychiatric consequence of stroke. Electroacupuncture (EA) has been found to be an effective therapy for treating PSD. However, the underlying mechanisms of EA's efficacy remain unclear. This research aimed to investigate the effects of EA on alterations in gut microbiota and fecal metabolome in PSD rats. Methods Analyses of gut microbiome and fecal metabolome were performed to identify gut microbes and their functional metabolites in a sham group, PSD group, and EA group. We conducted enrichment analysis to identify the differential metabolic pathways in three groups. Correlations between altered gut microbes and differential metabolites after EA treatment were studied. Results PSD showed decreased species-richness/diversity indices of microbial composition, characterized by an increase in Muribaculaceae, Peptostreptococcaceae, Oscillospiraceae, Ruminococcaceae, and Clostridiaceae and a decrease in Lactobacillaceae, Lachnospiraceae, and Bacteroidaceae. Of these, the abundance of Muribaculaceae, Lactobacillaceae, Lachnospiraceae, Peptostreptococcaceae, and Clostridiaceae were reversed by EA. Furthermore, PSD was associated with 34 differential fecal metabolites, mainly belonging to steroid hormone biosynthesis, that could be regulated by EA. Conclusion Regulation of gut microbiome and lipid metabolism could be one of the potential mechanisms for EA treatment for alleviating the depressive behaviors of PSD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to systematically review the evidence of drug-coated balloon used in the treatment of acute myocardial infarction and compared with using drug-eluting stent in terms of clinical and angiographic outcomes for a relatively long follow-up period. METHODS Electronic databases including PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library were used to search for the information of each study. A total of 8 studies involving 1310 patients were included in this meta-analysis. RESULTS During a median follow-up duration of 12 months (range 3-24 months), there were no statistical differences between the drug-coated balloon and drug-eluting stent group in terms of a major adverse cardiovascular event (odds ratio = 1.07; P =.75; 95% CI: 0.72-1.57), all-cause death (odds ratio = 1.01; P =.98; 95% CI = 0.56-1.82), cardiac death (odds ratio = 0.85, P =.65; 95% CI = 0.42-1.72), target lesion revascularization (odds ratio = 1.72; P =.09; 95% CI: 0.93-3.19), recurrent myocardial infarction (odds ratio = 0.89, P =.76; 95% CI: 0.44-1.83), and thrombotic event (odds ratio = 1.10; P =.90; 95% CI: 0.24-5.02). Drug-coated balloon was not linked with risk of late lumen loss compared with drug-eluting stent (mean difference = -0.06 mm; P =.42; 95% CI: -0.22-0.09 mm). However, there was a higher incidence of target vessel revascularization noted in the drug-coated balloon group compared with the drug-eluting stent group (odds ratio = 1.88; P =.02; 95% CI: 1.10-3.22). The subgroup analysis stratified by different study types and ethnicities showed there were no significant differences between the 2 groups. CONCLUSIONS Using drug-coated balloon might serve as a potential alternative strategy for patients with acute myocardial infarction because of the similar clinical and angiographic outcomes compared with using drug-eluting stent; nevertheless, the issue of target vessel revascularization should be more focused on. Larger and more representative studies are needed in the future.

Abstract
Paclitaxel is one of the most effective chemotherapeutic drugs which processes the obvious curative effect for a broad range of cancers including breast, ovarian, lung, and head & neck cancers. Though some novel paclitaxel-loaded formulations have been developed, the clinical application of the paclitaxel is still limited due to its toxicity and solubility issues. Over the past decades, we have seen rapid advances in applying nanocarriers in paclitaxel delivery systems. The nano-drug delivery systems offer unique advantages in enhancing the aqueous solubility, reducing side effects, increasing permeability, prolonging circulation half-life of paclitaxel. In this review, we summarize recent advances in developing novel paclitaxel-loaded nano delivery systems based on nanocarriers. These nanocarriers show great potentials in overcoming the disadvantages of pure paclitaxel and as a result improving the efficacy.

Abstract
B cell receptor associated protein 31 (BAP31) is closely associated with tumor progression, while the role and mechanism of BAP31 in gastric cancer (GC) remains unknown. This study explored that BAP31 was upregulated in GC tissues and high expression indicated poor survival of GC patients. BAP31 knockdown inhibited cell growth and induced G1/S arrest. Moreover, BAP31 attenuation increased the lipid peroxidation level of the membrane and facilitated cellular ferroptosis. Mechanistically, BAP31 regulated cell proliferation and ferroptosis by directly binding to VDAC1 and affected VDAC1 oligomerization and polyubiquitination. HNF4A was bound to BAP31 at the promoter and increased its transcription. Furthermore, knockdown of BAP31 inclined to make GC cells vulnerable to 5-FU and ferroptosis inducer, erastin, in vivo and in vitro. Our work suggests that BAP31 may serve as prognostic factor for gastric cancer and act as potential therapeutic strategy for gastric cancer.

Abstract
Cardiovascular disease is a high incidence and mortality rate disease worldwide. Exercise training has become an established evidence-based treatment strategy that is beneficial for many cardiovascular diseases. This study aimed to investigate the effects of exercise on hyperlipidemia-induced cardiac damage in apolipoprotein E-deficient (ApoE-/-) mice. Male ApoE-/- mice were randomly divided into the following four groups: normal diet (ND), normal diet + exercise training (ND + E), high-fat diet (HFD), and high-fat diet + exercise training (HFD + E). Exercise training consisted of swimming for 40 min, 5 days/week for 12 weeks. After 12 weeks, histopathological alterations in cardiac tissue and the serum were measured. Furthermore, the NOX4, NRF2, SIRT1, TGF-β, HO-1, collagen III, Smad3, Bax, Bak, Bcl-2, Bcl-xl, IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-18 expression levels were evaluated using immunohistochemistry and western blotting; Results: the serum levels of SIRT1, GSH-Px, and SOD were lower in ApoE-/- HFD mice compared with those in ApoE-/- HFD + E mice. Significant pathological changes were observed in the ApoE-/- HFD + E group compared with those in the ApoE-/- HFD group. Increased levels of oxidative stress, fibrosis, and apoptosis, and decreased antioxidant expression in the ApoE-/- HFD group compared with those in ApoE-/- HFD + E mice. Exercise exerts protective effects against cardiac damage caused by hyperlipidemia.

Abstract
PURPOSE To analyze the reasons for cancellation of oral and maxillofacial day surgery on the same day, and to propose countermeasures, so as to provide reference for improving the work efficiency and medical quality of day surgery ward. METHODS The number of oral and maxillofacial day surgery cancellation cases in Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine from June 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021 was calculated and then the relevant causes were analyzed. RESULTS During the statistical period, a total of 3134 patients underwent oral and maxillofacial day surgery. Among them, 72 (2.30%) cases were canceled of day surgery on the same day. Cancellation of oral and maxillofacial day surgery was as followed: patient-related factors(31, 43.05%), disease-related factors (28, 38.89%), epidemic of Covid 19-related(10, 13.89%), and hospital-related factors(3, 4.17%). The top three departments of oral and maxillofacial day surgery cancellation were Department of Preventive Dentistry(7, 7.37%), Department of Oral Surgery(22, 6.56%) and Department of Oral and Craniomaxillofacial Surgery(18,2.77%). CONCLUSIONS The cancellation rate of oral and maxillofacial day surgery can be reduced by strengthening screening in anesthesia assessment at outpatient clinic, strengthening doctor-patient communication, strengthening health education and epidemic prevention and control in day outpatient management center.

Abstract
In this study, we detected 12 duck and 11 goose flocks that were positive for duck hepatitis B virus (DHBV) using polymerase chain reaction and isolated 23 strains between 2020 and 2022 in China. The complete genomes of goose strains E200801 and E210501 shared the highest identity (99.9%), whereas those of strains Y220217 and E210526 shared the lowest identity (91.39%). The phylogenetic tree constructed based on the genome sequences of these strains and reference strains was classified into three major clusters: the Chinese branch DHBV-I, the Chinese branch DHBV-II, and the Western branch DHBV-III. Furthermore, the duck-origin strain Y200122 was clustered into a separate branch and was predicted to be a recombinant strain derived from DHBV-M32990 (belonging to the Chinese branch DHBV-I) and Y220201 (belonging to the Chinese branch DHBV-II). Additionally, preS protein analysis of the 23 DHBV strains revealed extensive mutation sites, almost half of which were of duck origin. All goose-origin DHBV contained the mutation site G133E, which is related to increased viral pathogenicity. These data are expected to promote further research on the epidemiology and evolution of DHBV. Continuing DHBV surveillance in poultry will enhance the understanding of the evolution of HBV.

Abstract
Diabetic peripheral arterial atherosclerosis is one of the important characteristics of diabetic foot syndrome. Apolipoprotein (Apo A-IV) participates in various physiological processes, and animal studies have shown that it has roles of anti-atherosclerosis, prevention of platelet aggregation and thrombosis. Apo A-IV glycosylation is closely related to the occurrence and development of diabetic peripheral atherosclerosis. This study aimed to explore the mechanism of diabetic peripheral arterial lesions caused by glycosylated Apo A-IV. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and T2DM with diabetic foot patients (T2DM-F; n = 45, 30) were enrolled in this study, and individuals without diabetes (n = 35) served as normal controls (NC). In T2DM group, serum Apo A-IV content was higher than those in NC and T2DM-F group, as carboxymethyl lysine (CML) glycosylation of Apo A-IV in mixed serum from T2DM-F group was identified to be more significant than those in two other groups. Within a microfluidic arterial chip model, Apo A-IV from T2DM and T2DM-F group significantly increased transcription and protein levels of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) in chip arteries, and CML expression was observed in T2DM-F group, which were associated with increased nuclear receptor subfamily 4 group A member 3 (NR4A3) expression. Recombinant human Apo A-IV could reverse the stimulating effect of serum Apo A-IV from T2DM-F group on TNF-α expression, and NR4A3 blocking peptide downregulated TNF-α expression by inhibiting NR4A3 expression. In the chip arteries, Apo A-IV from T2DM and T2DM-F increased TNF-α expression and turn them into a pre-atherosclerotic state, which might be one of the important mechanisms of glycosylated Apo A-IV to induce diabetic peripheral arterial lesions and eventually lead to diabetic foot.

A digital workflow for fabricating a polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) periodontal splint is described. The antibacterial properties of PEKK and the precision and efficiency of digital technology led to the provision of a splint with no adverse effects on oral hygiene or periodontal maintenance during a 2-year follow-up.

Abstract
Cachavirus (CachaV) infection was first reported in the USA in 2019. This virus has been previously detected in pet dogs and cats in China. In the present study, we retrospectively examined this virus in 413 dogs and 127 cats. Swab samples obtained from these animals were collected during 2015–2017. Notably, CachaV was detected in four samples from dogs with diarrhea but not in cats; however, the correlation between healthy dogs and those with enteritis was not statistically significant. Furthermore, we amplified early complete genomic sequences of the four strains detected in our study dogs (CHN1601, CHN1602, CHN1703, and CHN1704). Among these strains, the sequence identity of the NS1 protein and the seven previously reported strains in China were 97.44%–99.7%, whereas that of VP1 protein was 98.02%–99.6%. Interestingly, in the NS1 coding region, CHN1704 demonstrated 99.7% (highest) similarity with the CachaV strain NWT-W88 detected from a wolf and 64.5% similarity with the NS1 of a bat parvovirus (BtPV) strain. Conversely, in the VP1 coding region, CHN1703 demonstrated 99.7% (highest) similarity with the prototype CachaV strain IDEXX1 detected from dogs and 63.3% similarity with BtPV strain. For the phylogenetic analysis of NS1 and VP1, the four strains detected during 2016-2017 were merged with other Chinese and foreign CachaV strains to form the major branch. We believe that these results helped improve the understanding of how CachaV evolved and suggest that the virus has been circulating in China since at least March 2016.

Abstract
Owing to its high similarity to human hepatitis B virus (HBV), duck HBV (DHBV) is often used as an essential model for HBV research. Although intergenotypic recombination of HBV is common, it remains unclear whether the intergenotypic recombination of human HBV is exactly the same as that of DHBV. In this study, 119 serum samples of duck and goose were collected from 51 farms (29 duck and 22 goose farms) in the central and eastern regions of China. A total of 22 strains isolated from the 22 DHBV positive flock were sequenced. Genome sequence alignment revealed that the duck- and goose-origin strains shared the highest and lowest similarities (99.7 and 90.52%, respectively). The complete genomes of these DHBV and 31 reference strains were analyzed using phylogenetic methods and classified into 3 clusters, which corresponded to the previously identified DHBV-I, DHBV-II, and DHBV-III branches. Recombination analyses of the 53 DHBV genomes indicated 2 major intergenotypic recombination events with high confidence values. These recombination events occurred between the genotypes of the Chinese isolates Y180813HB (Chinese branch [DHBV-Ⅰ]) and E170101AH (Chinese branch [DHBV-Ⅱ]) and the Western isolate DHBV-XY (Western branch [DHBV-Ⅲ]), resulting in the emergence of 2 Chinese recombinant isolates Y190303HN and Y170101HB. In addition, 40% (2/5) goose-origin and 58.8% (10/17) duck-origin DHBV in this study harbored the mutation site of G133E in preS, which promote the pathogenicity of DHBV. This is the first study to report on the genome analysis and recombination characterization of DHBV isolated from Chinese geese. Further, continuous investigation and molecular identification of DHBV should be conducted to attract researchers' attention.

Abstract
There is a trade-off between the sparseness of an absorber array and its sound absorption imposed by wave physics. Here, near-perfect absorption (99% absorption) is demonstrated when the spatial period of monopole-dipole resonators is close to one working wavelength (95% of the wavelength). The condition for perfect absorption is to render degenerate monopole-dipole resonators critically coupled. Frequency domain simulations, eigenfrequency simulations, and the coupled mode theory are utilized to demonstrate the acoustic performances and the underlying physics. The sparse-resonator-based sound absorber could greatly benefit noise control with air flow and this study could also have implications for electromagnetic wave absorbers.
