Abstract
The wealth of complex polar topologies1-10 recently found in nanoscale ferroelectrics results from a delicate balance between the intrinsic tendency of the materials to develop a homogeneous polarization and the electric and mechanical boundary conditions imposed on them. Ferroelectric-dielectric interfaces are model systems in which polarization curling originates from open circuit-like electric boundary conditions, to avoid the build-up of polarization charges through the formation of flux-closure11-14 domains that evolve into vortex-like structures at the nanoscale15-17 level. Although ferroelectricity is known to couple strongly with strain (both homogeneous18 and inhomogeneous19,20), the effect of mechanical constraints21 on thin-film nanoscale ferroelectrics has been comparatively less explored because of the relative paucity of strain patterns that can be implemented experimentally. Here we show that the stacking of freestanding ferroelectric perovskite layers with controlled twist angles provides an opportunity to tailor these topological nanostructures in a way determined by the lateral strain modulation associated with the twisting. Furthermore, we find that a peculiar pattern of polarization vortices and antivortices emerges from the flexoelectric coupling of polarization to strain gradients. This finding provides opportunities to create two-dimensional high-density vortex crystals that would enable us to explore previously unknown physical effects and functionalities.

Abstract
We present the first comprehensive tests of the universality of the light leptons in the angular distributions of semileptonic B^{0}-meson decays to charged spin-1 charmed mesons. We measure five angular-asymmetry observables as functions of the decay recoil that are sensitive to lepton-universality-violating contributions. We use events where one neutral B is fully reconstructed in ϒ(4S)→BB[over ¯] decays in data corresponding to 189 fb^{-1} integrated luminosity from electron-positron collisions collected with the Belle II detector. We find no significant deviation from the standard model expectations.

Abstract
We measure the lifetime of the D_{s}^{+} meson using a data sample of 207 fb^{-1} collected by the Belle II experiment running at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e^{+}e^{-} collider. The lifetime is determined by fitting the decay-time distribution of a sample of 116×10^{3} D_{s}^{+}→ϕπ^{+} decays. Our result is τ_{D_{s}^{+}}=(499.5±1.7±0.9) fs, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This result is significantly more precise than previous measurements.

Abstract
We report the first search for a nonstandard-model resonance decaying into τ pairs in e^{+}e^{-}→μ^{+}μ^{-}τ^{+}τ^{-} events in the 3.6-10 GeV/c^{2} mass range. We use a 62.8 fb^{-1} sample of e^{+}e^{-} collisions collected at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB collider. The analysis probes three different models predicting a spin-1 particle coupling only to the heavier lepton families, a Higgs-like spin-0 particle that couples preferentially to charged leptons (leptophilic scalar), and an axionlike particle, respectively. We observe no evidence for a signal and set exclusion limits at 90% confidence level on the product of cross section and branching fraction into τ pairs, ranging from 0.7 to 24 fb, and on the couplings of these processes. We obtain world-leading constraints on the couplings for the leptophilic scalar model for masses above 6.5 GeV/c^{2} and for the axionlike particle model over the entire mass range.

Abstract
We report a measurement of the CP-violating parameters C and S in B^{0}→K_{S}^{0}π^{0} decays at Belle II using a sample of 387×10^{6} BB[over ¯] events recorded in e^{+}e^{-} collisions at a center-of-mass energy corresponding to the ϒ(4S) resonance. These parameters are determined by fitting the proper decay-time distribution of a sample of 415 signal events. We obtain C=-0.04_{-0.15}^{+0.14}±0.05 and S=0.75_{-0.23}^{+0.20}±0.04, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

Abstract
We present the first measurement of the ratio of branching fractions of inclusive semileptonic B-meson decays, R(X_{e/μ})=B(B→Xeν)/B(B→Xμν), a precision test of electron-muon universality, using data corresponding to 189 fb^{-1} from electron-positron collisions collected with the Belle II detector. In events where the partner B meson is fully reconstructed, we use fits to the lepton momentum spectra above 1.3 GeV/c to obtain R(X_{e/μ})=1.007±0.009(stat)±0.019(syst), which is the most precise lepton-universality test of its kind and agrees with the standard-model expectation.

Abstract
The L_{μ}-L_{τ} extension of the standard model predicts the existence of a lepton-flavor-universality-violating Z^{'} boson that couples only to the heavier lepton families. We search for such a Z^{'} through its invisible decay in the process e^{+}e^{-}→μ^{+}μ^{-}Z^{'}. We use a sample of electron-positron collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV collected by the Belle II experiment in 2019-2020, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 79.7 fb^{-1}. We find no excess over the expected standard-model background. We set 90%-confidence-level upper limits on the cross section for this process as well as on the coupling of the model, which ranges from 3×10^{-3} at low Z^{'} masses to 1 at Z^{'} masses of 8 GeV/c^{2}.

Abstract
We search for lepton-flavor-violating τ^{-}→e^{-}α and τ^{-}→μ^{-}α decays, where α is an invisible spin-0 boson. The search uses electron-positron collisions at 10.58 GeV center-of-mass energy with an integrated luminosity of 62.8 fb^{-1}, produced by the SuperKEKB collider and collected with the Belle II detector. We search for an excess in the lepton-energy spectrum of the known τ^{-}→e^{-}ν[over ¯]_{e}ν_{τ} and τ^{-}→μ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{μ}ν_{τ} decays. We report 95% confidence-level upper limits on the branching-fraction ratio B(τ^{-}→e^{-}α)/B(τ^{-}→e^{-}ν[over ¯]_{e}ν_{τ}) in the range (1.1-9.7)×10^{-3} and on B(τ^{-}→μ^{-}α)/B(τ^{-}→μ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{μ}ν_{τ}) in the range (0.7-12.2)×10^{-3} for α masses between 0 and 1.6 GeV/c^{2}. These results provide the most stringent bounds on invisible boson production from τ decays.

Abstract
An absolute measurement of the Λ_{c}^{+} lifetime is reported using Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{-}π^{+} decays in events reconstructed from data collected by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy electron-positron collider. The total integrated luminosity of the data sample, which was collected at center-of-mass energies at or near the ϒ(4S) resonance, is 207.2 fb^{-1}. The result, τ(Λ_{c}^{+})=203.20±0.89±0.77 fs, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic, is the most precise measurement to date and is consistent with previous determinations.

Abstract
The dark photon A^{'} and the dark Higgs boson h^{'} are hypothetical particles predicted in many dark sector models. We search for the simultaneous production of A^{'} and h^{'} in the dark Higgsstrahlung process e^{+}e^{-}→A^{'}h^{'} with A^{'}→μ^{+}μ^{-} and h^{'} invisible in electron-positron collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV in data collected by the Belle II experiment in 2019. With an integrated luminosity of 8.34 fb^{-1}, we observe no evidence for signal. We obtain exclusion limits at 90% Bayesian credibility in the range of 1.7-5.0 fb on the cross section and in the range of 1.7×10^{-8}-200×10^{-8} on the effective coupling ϵ^{2}×α_{D} for the A^{'} mass in the range of 4.0 GeV/c^{2}<M_{A^{'}}<9.7 GeV/c^{2} and for the h^{'} mass M_{h^{'}}<M_{A^{'}}, where ϵ is the mixing strength between the standard model and the dark photon and α_{D} is the coupling of the dark photon to the dark Higgs boson. Our limits are the first in this mass range.

Abstract
The Josephson effect results from the coupling of two superconductors across a spacer such as an insulator, a normal metal or a ferromagnet to yield a phase coherent quantum state. However, in junctions with ferromagnetic spacers, very long-range Josephson effects have remained elusive. Here we demonstrate extremely long-range (micrometric) high-temperature (tens of kelvins) Josephson coupling across the half-metallic manganite La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 combined with the superconducting cuprate YBa2Cu3O7. These planar junctions, in addition to large critical currents, display the hallmarks of Josephson physics, such as critical current oscillations driven by magnetic flux quantization and quantum phase locking effects under microwave excitation (Shapiro steps). The latter display an anomalous doubling of the Josephson frequency predicted by several theories. In addition to its fundamental interest, the marriage between high-temperature, dissipationless quantum coherent transport and full spin polarization brings opportunities for the practical realization of superconducting spintronics, and opens new perspectives for quantum computing.

Abstract
A search for the flavor-changing neutral-current decay B^{+}→K^{+}νν[over ¯] is performed at the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric energy electron-positron collider. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 63 fb^{-1} collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance and a sample of 9 fb^{-1} collected at an energy 60 MeV below the resonance. Because the measurable decay signature involves only a single charged kaon, a novel measurement approach is used that exploits not only the properties of the B^{+}→K^{+}νν[over ¯] decay, but also the inclusive properties of the other B meson in the ϒ(4S)→BB[over ¯] event, to suppress the background from other B meson decays and light-quark pair production. This inclusive tagging approach offers a higher signal efficiency compared to previous searches. No significant signal is observed. An upper limit on the branching fraction of B^{+}→K^{+}νν[over ¯] of 4.1×10^{-5} is set at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract
Abstract
Cancer cells are metabolically rewired to activate glycolysis, which results in the generation and excretion of lactate as a byproduct. Although lactate was previously thought to be a waste product of anaerobic respiration, increasing evidence has revealed that distinct cell populations within tumors use lactate as a source of energy through TCA cycle. This metabolic symbiosis between distinct cell populations, hypoxic lactate consumers, and oxidative glycolytic lactate exporters within the tumor is regulated by differential expression of lactate transporters, mainly MCT1 and MCT4. Therefore, dual targeting of MCT1 and MCT4 is a novel approach to treat cancer. We have developed a compound, NGY-B, which binds and inhibits both MCT1 and MCT4 transporters. This compound has shown to significantly increase intracellular lactate levels in melanoma models and thereby decreasing in vitro cell proliferation. When cultured in the media with exogenous lactate to mimic the tumor microenvironment, NGY-B greatly reduced lactate uptake by cancer cells. Mechanistically, NGY-B deactivated glycolytic pathway by reducing hexokinase 2 (HK2), phosphoglycerate dehydrogenase (PHGDH), and pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 1 (PDK1) expression. Additionally, NGY-B treatment strongly decreased STAT3 and mTOR signaling pathways. Furthermore, the in vivo therapeutic efficacy of NGY-B was validated in xenograft and syngeneic mouse models of melanoma. While a significant reduction in tumor size was observed in A375 xenograft model treated with NGY-B, a robust tumor growth reduction was evident in SM1 immunocompetent syngeneic melanoma mouse model, suggesting the involvement of immune cells for higher response in this model. Supporting this premise, we also found that NGY-B treated cells showed a decrease in PD-L1, B7-H3, and B7-H4 expression. Overall, our results indicate that NGY-B inhibits melanoma by targeting metabolic symbiosis and activating antitumor immune response mechanisms.

Abstract
The persistence of ferroelectricity in ultrathin layers relies critically on screening or compensation of polarization charges which otherwise destabilize the ferroelectric state. At surfaces, charged defects play a crucial role in the screening mechanism triggering novel mixed electrochemical-ferroelectric states. At interfaces, however, the coupling between ferroelectric and electrochemical states has remained unexplored. Here, we make use of the dynamic formation of the oxygen vacancy profile in the nanometer-thick barrier of a ferroelectric tunnel junction to demonstrate the interplay between electrochemical and ferroelectric degrees of freedom at an oxide interface. We fabricate ferroelectric tunnel junctions with a La_{0.7}Sr_{0.3}MnO_{3} bottom electrode and BaTiO_{3} ferroelectric barrier. We use poling strategies to promote the generation and transport of oxygen vacancies at the metallic top electrode. Generated oxygen vacancies control the stability of the ferroelectric polarization and modify its coercive fields. The ferroelectric polarization, in turn, controls the ionization of oxygen vacancies well above the limits of thermodynamic equilibrium, triggering the build up of a Schottky barrier at the interface which can be turned on and off with ferroelectric switching. This interplay between electronic and electrochemical degrees of freedom yields very large values of the electroresistance (more than 10^{6}% at low temperatures) and enables a controlled switching between clockwise and counterclockwise switching modes in the same junction (and consequently, a change of the sign of the electroresistance). The strong coupling found between electrochemical and electronic degrees of freedom sheds light on the growing debate between resistive and ferroelectric switching in ferroelectric tunnel junctions, and moreover, can be the source of novel concepts in memory devices and neuromorphic computing.

Abstract
Theories beyond the standard model often predict the existence of an additional neutral boson, the Z^{'}. Using data collected by the Belle II experiment during 2018 at the SuperKEKB collider, we perform the first searches for the invisible decay of a Z^{'} in the process e^{+}e^{-}→μ^{+}μ^{-}Z^{'} and of a lepton-flavor-violating Z^{'} in e^{+}e^{-}→e^{±}μ^{∓}Z^{'}. We do not find any excess of events and set 90% credibility level upper limits on the cross sections of these processes. We translate the former, in the framework of an L_{μ}-L_{τ} theory, into upper limits on the Z^{'} coupling constant at the level of 5×10^{-2}-1 for M_{Z^{'}}≤6 GeV/c^{2}.

Abstract
Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare disease occurring almost exclusively in women whereby metastatic smooth-muscle cell-like adenomas grow within the lungs, resulting in loss of pulmonary function. LAM cells contain mutations in tuberous sclerosis 1 or 2 genes (TSC1 or TSC2), which leads to heightened mammalian target of rapamycin complex1 (mTORC1) activity and cell proliferation. The LAM cell origin remains unknown; however, we reported that inactivation of the Tsc2 gene in the mouse uterus resulted in myometrial tumors with nearly all known features of LAM, including over-expression of melanocytic markers that are pathognomonic of LAM tumor cells. Approximately 50% of animals developed metastatic myometrial tumors in the lung, suggesting that LAM cells might originate from the uterine myometrium, possibly explaining its overwhelming female prevalence. Estrogen ablation by oophorectomy or aromatase inhibition resulted in nearly complete regression of Tsc2-null myometrial tumors, indicating that, even without TSC2, estradiol is required to maintain tumors. Through RNAseq analysis of genes that are both estrogen and Tsc2 mediated, we identified the serine protease Neutrophil Elastase (NE) as being highly expressed in Tsc2-null uterine tumors. NE is expressed in and secreted by granulocytic neutrophils and myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), both of which are known to be upregulated in the blood and stroma of various cancers such as breast, lung, melanoma, and prostate. NE is thought to promote pro-tumorigenic phenotypes such as proliferation, EMT, migration, invasion, and ultimately metastasis. We hypothesize that NE from infiltrating MDSCs promotes LAM tumor progression. Using flow cytometry as well as immunofluorescence, we show increased numbers of MDSCs in the blood, uterus and lungs of Tsc2-null KO mice. Immunodepleting MDSCs results in reduced tumor growth and myometrial thickness, as does blockade of MDSC recruitment to tumors using a CXCR2 antagonist. Interestingly, treatment with the NE inhibitor sivelestat phenocopies the results from MDSC depletion, leading to reduced MDSC accumulation in the tumor site, reduced tumor growth, and less myometrial thickening. Finally, using TSC2-null cell lines, we find that NE promotes aggressive tumor cell behaviors such as migration and proliferation. Thus, our data highlights the importance of MDSCs and their product NE in LAM progression, and identifies novel molecular mediators of LAM tumor growth and invasion.

Abstract
The electronic reconstruction occurring at oxide interfaces may be the source of interesting device concepts for future oxide electronics. Among oxide devices, multiferroic tunnel junctions are being actively investigated as they offer the possibility to modulate the junction current by independently controlling the switching of the magnetization of the electrodes and of the ferroelectric polarization of the barrier. In this Letter, we show that the spin reconstruction at the interfaces of a La_{0.7}Sr_{0.3}MnO_{3}/BaTiO_{3}/La_{0.7}Sr_{0.3}MnO_{3} multiferroic tunnel junction is the origin of a spin filtering functionality that can be turned on and off by reversing the ferroelectric polarization. The ferroelectrically controlled interface spin filter enables a giant electrical modulation of the tunneling magnetoresistance between values of 10% and 1000%, which could inspire device concepts in oxides-based low dissipation spintronics.

Abstract
We study the origin of the magnetoelectric coupling in manganite films on ferroelectric substrates. We find large magnetoelectric coupling in La0.7Ca0.3MnO3/BaTiO3 ultra-thin films in experiments based on the converse magnetoelectric effect. The magnetization changes by around 30-40% upon applying electric fields on the order of 1 kV/cm to the BaTiO3 substrate, corresponding to magnetoelectric coupling constants on the order of α = (2-5) · 10(-7) s/m. Magnetic anisotropy is also affected by the electric field induced strain, resulting in a considerable reduction of coercive fields. We compare the magnetoelectric effect in pre-poled and unpoled BaTiO3 substrates. Polarized neutron reflectometry reveals a two-layer behavior with a depressed magnetic layer of around 30 Å at the interface. Magnetic force microscopy (MFM) shows a granular magnetic structure of the La0.7Ca0.3MnO3. The magnetic granularity of the La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 film and the robust magnetoelastic coupling at the La0.7Ca0.3MnO3/BaTiO3 interface are at the origin of the large magnetoelectric coupling, which is enhanced by phase separation in the manganite.

Abstract
The design of artificial vortex pinning landscapes is a major goal toward large scale applications of cuprate superconductors. Although disordered nanometric inclusions have shown to modify their vortex phase diagram and to produce enhancements of the critical current ( MacManus-Driscoll , J. L. ; Foltyn , S. R. ; Jia , Q. X. ; Wang , H. ; Serquis , A. ; Civale , L. ; Maiorov , B. ; Hawley , M. E. ; Maley , M. P. ; Peterson , D. E. Nat. Mater. 2004 , 3 , 439 - 443 and Yamada , Y. ; Takahashi , K. ; Kobayashi , H. ; Konishi , M. ; Watanabe , T. ; Ibi , A. ; Muroga , T. ; Miyata , S. ; Kato , T. ; Hirayama , T. ; Shiohara , Y. Appl. Phys. Lett. 2005 , 87 , 1 - 3 ), the effect of ordered oxide nanostructures remains essentially unexplored. This is due to the very small nanostructure size imposed by the short coherence length, and to the technological difficulties in the nanofabrication process. Yet, the novel phenomena occurring at oxide interfaces open a wide spectrum of technological opportunities to interplay with the superconductivity in cuprates. Here, we show that the unusual long-range suppression of the superconductivity occurring at the interface between manganites and cuprates affects vortex nucleation and provides a novel vortex pinning mechanism. In particular, we show evidence of commensurate pinning in YBCO films with ordered arrays of LCMO ferromagnetic nanodots. Vortex pinning results from the proximity induced reduction of the condensation energy at the vicinity of the magnetic nanodots, and yields an enhanced friction between the nanodot array and the moving vortex lattice in the liquid phase. This result shows that all-oxide ordered nanostructures constitute a powerful, new route for the artificial manipulation of vortex matter in cuprates.

Abstract
La(1-x)Bi(x)Mn2O5 (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1) oxides are members of the RMn2O5 family. The entire series has been prepared in polycrystalline form by a citrate technique. The evolution of their magnetic and crystallographic structures has been investigated by neutron powder diffraction (NPD) and magnetization measurements. All the samples crystallize in an orthorhombic structure with space group Pbam containing infinite chains of Mn(4+)O6 octahedra sharing edges, linked together by Mn(3+)O5 pyramids and (La/Bi)O8 units. These units become strongly distorted as the amount of Bi increases, due to the electron lone pair of Bi(3+). All the members of the series are magnetically ordered below TN = 25-40 K and they present different magnetic structures. For the samples with low Bi content (x = 0.2 and 0.4) the magnetic structure is characterized by the propagation vector k = (0,0,1/2). The magnetic moments of the Mn(4+) ions placed at octahedral sites are ordered according to the basis vectors (Gx, Ay, 0) whereas the Mn(3+) moments, located at pyramidal sites, are ordered according to the basis vectors (0, 0, Cz). When the content of Bi increases, two different propagation vectors are needed to explain the magnetic structure: k1 = (0,0,1/2) and k2 = (1/2,0,1/2). For x = 0.6 and 0.8, k2 is predominant over k1 and for this propagation vector (k2) the magnetic arrangement is defined by the basis vectors (Gx, Ay,0) and (Fx, Cy, 0) for Mn(4+) and Mn(3+) ions, respectively.

Abstract
We examine the anomalous inverse spin switch behavior in La0.7Ca0.3MnO3(LCMO)/YBa2Cu3O7-δ (YBCO)/LCMO trilayers by combined transport studies and polarized neutron reflectometry. Measuring magnetization profiles and magnetoresistance in an in-plane rotating magnetic field, we prove that, contrary to many accepted theoretical scenarios, the relative orientation between the two LCMO's magnetizations is not sufficient to determine the magnetoresistance. Rather the field dependence of magnetoresistance is explained by the interplay between the applied magnetic field and the (exponential tail of the) induced exchange field in YBCO, the latter originating from the electronic reconstruction at the LCMO/YBCO interfaces.

Abstract
We report on the magnetic coupling of La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 layers through SrTiO3 spacers in La0.7Sr0.3MnO3/SrTiO3 epitaxial heterostructures. Combined aberration-corrected microscopy and electron-energy-loss spectroscopy evidence charge transfer to the empty conduction band of the titanate. Ti d electrons interact via superexchange with Mn, giving rise to a Ti magnetic moment as demonstrated by x-ray magnetic circular dichroism. This induced magnetic moment in the SrTiO3 controls the bulk magnetic and transport properties of the superlattices when the titanate layer thickness is below 1 nm.

Abstract
Arabidopsis thaliana, a small annual plant belonging to the mustard family, is the subject of study by an estimated 7000 researchers around the world. In addition to the large body of genetic, physiological and biochemical data gathered for this plant, it will be the first higher plant genome to be completely sequenced, with completion expected at the end of the year 2000. The sequencing effort has been coordinated by an international collaboration, the Arabidopsis Genome Initiative (AGI). The rationale for intensive investigation of Arabidopsis is that it is an excellent model for higher plants. In order to maximize use of the knowledge gained about this plant, there is a need for a comprehensive database and information retrieval and analysis system that will provide user-friendly access to Arabidopsis information. This paper describes the initial steps we have taken toward realizing these goals in a project called The Arabidopsis Information Resource (TAIR) (www.arabidopsis.org).

Abstract
p40s are acidic proteins of eukaryotic cells occurring either free in the cytoplasm or in association with ribosomes, the latter occurring in both monosomes and polysomes. p40s may play a role in the regulation of protein synthesis, although the exact mechanism is not known. Leaves of all 10 plant species examined here, including both monocots and dicots, contained proteins detected on immunoblots with Arabidopsis thaliana p40 antiserum. The number and apparent size of the protein bands were variable even among closely related species. Abundance of p40 relative to ribosomal content during soybean (Glycine max L.) seed germination and during seed and leaf development was examined. p40 abundance correlated with periods of active tissue growth and high polysome content. The plant growth regulator indole acetic acid caused an increase in polysome formation in etiolated pea (Pisum sativum L.) plants and a concomitant recruitment of p40 into polysomes. Subcellular localization at the microscopy level indicated that the pattern of p40 staining is very similar to that for RNA, except that p40 is excluded from the nucleus. These data suggest that p40 is an accessory protein of the ribosome that might play a role in plant growth and development.
