Abstract
Objective: Autologous peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC) derived from bone marrow can promote liver regeneration and improve the liver function of patients, but there are few studies on its effect on the long-term outcomes in patients with decompensated cirrhosis. Based on previous work, this study observed the clinical outcomes of PBSC treatment in patients with decompensated cirrhosis for 10 years, in order to provide more data support for the safety and efficacy of stem cells in clinical applications. Methods: Data of patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis who completed PBSC treatment in the Department of Gastroenterology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Military Medical University from August 2005 to February 2012 were included. The follow-up endpoint was death or liver transplantation, and patients who did not reach the follow-up endpoint were followed-up for at least 10 years. The patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis who met the conditions for PBSC treatment but did not receive PBSC treatment in our hospital during the same period were used as controls. Results: A total of 287 cases with decompensated liver cirrhosis had completed PBSC treatment, and 90 cases were lost to follow-up within 10 years after surgery. A total of 151 cases with complete survival follow-up data were included in the control group. There were no statistically significant differences in baseline information such as gender, age, etiological composition and liver function score between the two groups. The 10-year survival rate was higher in PBSC than control group (37.56% vs. 26.49%, P<0.05). Cholinesterase, albumin, international normalized ratio, Child-Turcotte-Pugh score, model for end-stage liver disease score, and other indicators were gradually recovered within 3 months to 1 year after PBSC treatment, and stabilized at a more desirable level in the long-term after follow-up for up to 10 years. There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of liver cancer between the two groups (25.22% vs.31.85%, P=0.267). The age of onset of hepatocellular carcinoma was later in PBSC than control group [(56.66±7.21) years vs. (52.69±8.42) years, P<0.05]. Conclusions: This long-term observational follow-up study of more than ten years confirms that PBSC treatment can bring long-term benefits to patients with decompensated cirrhosis, with good long-term safety, thus providing more data support on the safety and efficacy of stem cells for clinical applications.

Abstract
Objective: To develop a prototype artificial intelligence image recognition system for detecting dental caries, especially those without cavities, in children. Methods: Seven hundred and twelve intraoral photos, which were taken by dental professionals using a digital camera from October 2013 to June 2020 in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology, were collected from the children who received dental treatment under general anesthesia. The well-documented post-treatment electronic dental record of each child was identified as label standard to determine whether the teeth were carious and the type of caries types such as caries that had become cavities (caries with cavities), pit and fissure caries that had not become cavities (pit and fissure caries) and proximal caries which the marginal ridge enamel had not been destroyed (proximal caries). The various teeth and caries types were labeled by pediatric dentists using VoTT software (Windows 2.1.0, Microsoft, U S A). There were five labeled groups: pit and fissure caries, approximal caries, non-carious approximal surfaces, caries with cavities and teeth without caries (including intact fillings). Each group was randomly divided into training dataset, validation dataset and test dataset at a ratio of 6.4∶1.6∶2.0 by using random number table. After using the labeled training dataset for deep learning training, a deep learning-based artificial intelligence (AI) image recognition system for detecting dental caries was established, with the caries probability greater than 50.0% as the criterion for determining caries. Sensitivity and accuracy were used as indicators of recognition specificity. Results: Seven hundred and twelve single-jaw intraoral photographs were segmented and annotated into 953 pit and fissure caries, 1 002 approximal caries, 3 008 caries with cavities, 3 189 teeth without caries and 862 non-carious approximal surfaces, totaly 9 014 labels. The sensitivities and specificities of the test set were 96.0% and 97.0% for caries with cavities, 95.8% and 99.0% for pit and fissure caries and 88.1% and 97.1% for approximal caries. Conclusions: The current AI system developed based on deep learning of the intra-oral photos in the present study showed the ability to detect dental caries. Furthermore, the AI system could accurately verify different types of dental caries such as caries with cavities, pit and fissure caries and proximal caries.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate China statistics of extracorporeal life support (ECLS) in 2018. Methods: The statistics data was collected by provincial coordinators assigned by Chinese Society of Extracorporeal Life Support (CSECLS) in 2019, including cases, centers, indications, and in-hospital survival rate. Results: Three thousand nine hundred and twenty-three cases were reported by 260 ECLS centers. There were an increase of 38.8% in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) cases and an increase of 11.6% in ECMO centers compared with that in 2017 (2 826 cases and 233 centers). Adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients accounted for 88.0%, 9.7%, and 2.3% of total cases, respectively. Centers with more than 20 ECMO cases per year had favorable in-hospital survival rate compared with those less than 20 cases (49.1% vs 44.0%, P=0.005). ECMO cases (r=0.71, P<0.001) and centers (r=0.81, P<0.001) were both associated with regional gross domestic product. Conclusions: There was a growth in ECLS cases, centers, and center scale in China within 2018. The majority of ECLS cases and centers were in developed regions. The ECLS indications, and in-hospital mortality in China were in accordance with that in the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization registry gradually. Large-scale ECLS centers had favorable patient outcomes. The development of ECLS still has tremendous potential in China, especially for pediatric and neonatal patients.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate whether long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) growth arrest-specific transcript 5 (GAS5)/microRNA-200c-3p/angiotensin converting enzyme 2(ACE2) involved in the regulation of the apoptosis of human lung epithelial cell A549 in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Methods: ARDS rat models were established and were divided into control, ARDS, ARDS+ pcDNA and ARDS+ pcDNA-GAS5 groups. Six hours after the establishment of ARDS rat model, arterial blood and lung tissues of the rats from the four groups were collected. The changes of partial pressure of oxygen (PO(2)) and partial pressure of CO(2) (PCO(2)) were analyzed and the expression of GAS5 in lung tissue was observed in these groups. Then, A549 cells were divided into control, lipopolysaccharide (LPS), LPS+ pcDNA, LPS+ pcDNA-GAS5, LPS+ pcDNA-GAS5+ pre-NC, LPS+ pcDNA-GAS5+ miR-200c-3p mimic groups. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) was conducted to measure lncRNA GAS5, ACE2 and miR-200c-3p levels. RNA immunoprecipitation and RNA pull-down assay were used to detect the combination between GAS5 and miR-200c-3p. Western blotting was used to detect the protein level of ACE2. Flow cytometry was used to observe the apoptosis of A549 cells in those groups. The data between groups were compared by t test. Results: In ARDS rat model, PO(2) value was significantly increased in ARDS+ pcDNA-GAS5 group than that in ARDS+ pcDNA group[(81.5±3.3) vs (57.5±5.1) mmHg, t=4.850, P<0.05], and PCO(2) value was significantly decreased in ARDS+ pcDNA-GAS5 group than that in ARDS+ pcDNA group[(50.6±1.9) vs (64.0±1.9) mmHg, t=5.940, P<0.05]. LncRNA GAS5 level in A549 cells of LPS group decreased significantly than that in control group (0.43±0.01 vs 1.01±0.01, t=0.242, P<0.05). Compared with LPS+ pcDNA group, ACE2 expression increased significantly in LPS+ pcDNA-GAS5 group (0.85±0.04 vs 0.34±0.02, t=1.800, P<0.05). Compared with LPS+ pcDNA-GAS5+ pre-NC group, ACE2 expression decreased significantly in LPS+ pcDNA-GAS5+ miR-200c-3p mimic group (0.62±0.01 vs 0.84±0.02, t=9.440, P<0.05). Compared with control group, the percentage of A549 cell apoptosis promoted significantly in LPS group (25.90±0.61 vs 7.90±0.22, t=0.257, P<0.05). Compared with LPS+ pcDNA group, the percentage of A549 cell apoptosis suppressed significantly in LPS+ pcDNA-GAS5 group (10.50±0.37 vs 26.37±0.45, t=1.760, P<0.05). Compared with LPS+ pcDNA-GAS5+ pre-NC group, the percentage of A549 apoptosis promoted significantly in LPS+ pcDNA-GAS5+ miR-200c-3p mimic group (19.07±0.56 vs 10.87±0.26, t=0.643, P<0.05). Conclusion: In ARDS, down-regulation of lncRNA GAS5 decreases ACE2 expression through increasing miR-200c-3p to promote the apoptosis of A549 cells, thus to promote the progression of ARDS.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to study the correlation between the cardiac output index value and the prognosis of patients with heart disease with the help of Pulse-induced Contour Cardiac Output (PICCO) and computed tomography (CT). Three hundred eighteen patients with pathologically confirmed heart disease were selected as study subjects. The Sime ns Av anto 1.6T type superconducting magnetic resonance meter and GE Light Speed Pro 48 slice spiral CT were used for the phased array coil scanning and enhanced scanning, respectively and to analyze the relationship between the cardiac output index value and prognosis in patients with heart disease with the help of PICCO and CT. The accuracy rates of PICCO and CT in determining the cardiac output index of heart disease were 93.2% and 76.1%, respectively, which were significantly different (P less than 0.05). The coincidence rate between the results of the cardiac output index and pathological results of heart disease from PICCO and CT were 57.6%and 54.7%, respectively. According to the χ2 test results, the diagnostic results of PICCO were consistent with the pathological results of the heart disease group (Kappa = 0.039, 0.496, P less than 0.05). The coincidence rate for the five-year survival rate of PICCO/CT with the total survival rate and the results of the patients were 56.7% and 43.8%, respectively. The coincidence rate of PICCO and CT diagnosis results with the cardiac output index values, as well as prognosis results, was high. In judging the value of the cardiac output index and the prognosis of patients with heart disease, PICCO was superior to CT. The diagnostic results of PICCO have a strong correlation with the pathological results, therefore, PICCO can be used to accurately determine the cardiac output index and the prognoses of patients with heart disease.

Abstract
Increased release of substance P (SP) from the dorsal horn following noxious stimuli, such as spinal administration of capsaicin, has been demonstrated in previous studies. However, changes in the release of SP in response to intradermal injection of capsaicin still remain unknown. This study was designed to demonstrate in vivo spinal SP release following intradermal injection of capsaicin (3%, 50 microl), using polyimide tubing with a single hole introduced into the rat dorsal horn. The changes in the content of SP in the rat dorsal horn tissues before and after capsaicin (3%, 50 microl) injection were also investigated. The SP concentration in the samples was analyzed using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). We found that intradermal injection of capsaicin induced a quick SP release within the dorsal horn. The peak of the release appeared around 10 min after the injection. In contrast, intradermal injection of capsaicin had no significant effect on the SP content in the dorsal horn. This study has provided direct evidence of the effect of intradermal injection of capsaicin on SP release within the dorsal horn, with the major source being from the central terminals of primary afferents.

Abstract
The interactions of the new photosensitizer {2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24-octakis[(3,5-dicarboxy)phenoxy]-phthalocyaninato}zinc(II) [ZnPc(COOH)16] and serum albumins (BSA and HSA) were investigated by absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. The binding constants were found to be 2.25-2.94 x 10(6) L x mol(-1). The 1 : 1 ZnPc (COOH)16-BSA and ZnPc (COOH)16-BSA conjugates were also prepared by incubating a mixture of ZnPc(COOH)16 and the corresponding serum albumin in 2 : 1 mole ratio followed by separation by gel permeation chromatography. The Q band absorption and fluorescence emission of ZnPc(COOH)16 are slightly red-shifted in the conjugates, and the spectral features suggest that the phthalocyanine exists predominantly in monomeric form in the conjugates.

Abstract
Three polyoxovanadium clusters, [{Ni(phen)}2 V4O12] x H2O I, [N(CH2CH2)3NH]Na(H2O)6 {K4 (H2O)4 [V10 O28]} (H2O)4 II and [(CH3)4N]6 [V15 O36 Cl] III, have been synthesized under hydrothermal condition. The relationship between their properties and structures were studied by using FTIR, UV-Vis DRS and flurescence. The FTIR showed that the vibrational frequencies of the group are related to the structure of the materials. In UV-Vis DRS spectra of compound I, there are four characteristic wide peaks at 200, 230, 260 and 350 nm corresponding to O(t) --> V, O(mu) --> Ni, O(mu) --> V charge transfer and phen's pi-pi*, respectively. The fluorescence spectra of clusters have been studies. Finally, the quantum chemistry calculation was performed by Gaussian 98 program to explain the structure characteristic of compound I.

Nu(as) (M-O(b)-M) is demonstrated to explain why the the oxidative ability becomes stronger when W atoms are substituted by Co atoms. In UV-Vis DRS spectra of compound I and II, there are two characteristic peaks at 254, 319 nm and 220, 310 nm coresponding O(d) --> W and to O(b), c --> W charge transfer, respectively. Activation of protein kinase B/Akt signaling pathway contributes to mechanical hypersensitivity induced by capsaicin. Pain 2005; 120:86-96. Abstract
We investigated the involvement of the protein kinase B/Akt (PKB/Akt) signaling pathway in the mechanical hypersensitivity induced in rats by capsaicin. Intradermal injection of capsaicin results in activation of PKB/Akt in the lumbar spinal cord, most prominently in the dorsal horn, starting by 5 min after capsaicin injection and lasting at least 1h. The activated PKB/Akt in the spinal cord is in neurons, since phospho-PKB/Akt (p-PKB/Akt) colocalizes with the neuronal marker, neuronal-specific nuclear protein (NeuN). The mechanical hypersensitivity is shown by the enhanced paw withdrawal frequency to applications of von Frey filaments with different bending forces (30, 100, 200 mN) on the rat paw. Pre-treatment with several different PKB/Akt inhibitors, including SH-6, Akt inhibitor IV, and Akt inhibitor V, blocked the mechanical hypersensitivity induced by intradermal injection of capsaicin, a measure of spinal cord central sensitization. Two structurally unrelated phosphoinositide 3-Kinase (PI3K, upstream of PKB/Akt) inhibitors, Wortmannin and LY294002, also prevented the mechanical hypersensitivity induced by intradermal injection of capsaicin. Furthermore, post-treatment with the PI3K inhibitor, Wortmannin, or PKB/Akt inhibitors, such as NL-71-101, SH-6, Akt inhibitor IV, and inhibitor V significantly reduced the established mechanical hypersensitivity induced by capsaicin. The PKB/Akt signaling pathway in the spinal cord is therefore involved in pain hypersensitivity.

Calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor activation produces PKA- and PKC-dependent mechanical hyperalgesia and central sensitization. J Neurophysiol 2005; 92:2859-66. Abstract
Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), acting through CGRP receptors, produces behavioral signs of mechanical hyperalgesia in rats and sensitization of wide dynamic range (WDR) neurons in the spinal cord dorsal horn. Although involvement of CGRP receptors in central sensitization has been confirmed, the second-messenger systems activated by CGRP receptor stimulation and involved in pain transmission are not clear. This study tested whether the hyperalgesia and sensitizing effects of CGRP receptor activation on WDR neurons are mediated by protein kinase A or C (PKA or PKC) signaling. Intrathecal injection of CGRP in rats produced mechanical hyperalgesia, as shown by paw withdrawal threshold tests. CGRP-induced hyperalgesia was attenuated significantly by the CGRP1 receptor antagonist, CGRP8-37. The effect was also attenuated significantly by a PKA inhibitor (H89) or a PKC inhibitor (chelerythrine chloride). Electrophysiological experiments demonstrated that superfusion of the spinal cord with CGRP-induced sensitization of spinal dorsal horn neurons. The CGRP effect could be blocked by CGRP8-37. Either a PKA or PKC inhibitor (H89 or chelerythrine) also attenuated this effect of CGRP. These results are consistent with the hypothesis that CGRP produces hyperalgesia by a direct action on CGRP1 receptors in the spinal cord dorsal horn and suggest that the effects of CGRP are mediated by both PKA and PKC second-messenger pathways.

Effects of intrathecal injections of melatonin analogs on capsaicin-induced secondary mechanical allodynia and hyperalgesia in rats. Pain 2004; 109:340-350. Abstract
Melatonin, its agonists/antagonists were administered intrathecally (i.t.) before/after intradermal injection of capsaicin. Capsaicin produced an increase in the paw withdrawal frequency (PWF) in the presumed area of secondary mechanical allodynia and hyperalgesia. Melatonin agonists in the absence of a capsaicin injection decreased the PWF significantly, whereas melatonin antagonists given intrathecally alone were ineffective in the absence of a capsaicin injection. Pre-treatment with a melatonin agonist i.t. caused a reduction in the PWF after capsaicin. In contrast, the PWF increased after capsaicin with pre-administration of a melatonin antagonist i.t. Combined pre-treatment with melatonin and a melatonin antagonist i.t. prevented the change in PWF induced by melatonin alone after capsaicin. Intrathecal post-treatment with a melatonin agonist reduced the enhanced PWF that followed an injection of capsaicin, but treatment with a combination of a melatonin agonist and its antagonist did not alter the responses. The PWF was unaffected when melatonin analogs were applied i.t. at the T6 level or were injected intramuscularly adjacent to the L4 vertebra. In spinal rats, the data showed comparable effects of melatonin analogs on capsaicin-induced secondary mechanical hyperalgesia. Animal motor function tested by 'activity box' showed that motion activity was not affected by i.t. melatonin or its antagonist. These results suggest that activation of the endogenous melatonin system in the spinal cord can reduce the generation, development and maintenance of central sensitization, with a resultant inhibition of capsaicin-induced secondary mechanical allodynia and hyperalgesia.

Role of calcitonin gene-related peptide in the sensitization of dorsal horn neurons to mechanical stimulation after intradermal injection of capsaicin. J Neurophysiol 2004; 92:320-6. Abstract
This study was designed to assess the role of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and its receptor in the sensitization of dorsal horn neurons induced by intradermal injection of capsaicin in rats. Extracellular recordings were made from wide dynamic range (WDR) dorsal horn neurons with receptive fields on the hindpaw in the lumbar enlargement of anesthetized rats. The background activity and responses to brushing, pressing, and pinching the skin were assessed. A postsuperfusion or a presuperfusion of CGRP(8-37) paradigm was followed. When tested 30 min after capsaicin injection, there was an increase in background activity and responses to brush, press, and pinch applied to the receptive field. Superfusion of CGRP(8-37) into the spinal cord at 45 min after capsaicin injection significantly reversed the increased background activity and responses to brush, press, and pinch applied to the receptive field. On the other hand, spinal superfusion of CGRP(8-37) prior to capsaicin injection prevented the increased background activity and responses to brush, press, and pinch of WDR neurons that occurred following capsaicin injection in control experiments. A sensitization of spinal dorsal horn neurons could also be induced by superfusion of the spinal cord with CGRP. The effect could be blocked by CGRP(8-37) dose-dependently. Collectively, these results suggest that CGRP and its receptors are involved in the spinal cord central sensitization induced by intradermal injection of capsaicin.

Abstract
Peripheral electrical stimulation (PES) has been utilized to manage chronic pain associated with nerve injury. However, the data on clinical effectiveness are conflicting and the neurophysiological mechanism is not well known. This study was designed to assess whether PES relieved neuropathic pain and its possible mechanisms. The neuropathic pain model was made with lumbar 5th (L5) and 6th (L6) spinal nerve ligations in rats. Nociceptive responses of the rats were assessed by the cold plate test (the number and duration of paw lifts that occurred in 5 min on a 5 +/- 1 degrees C cold plate). PES with a frequency of 2 Hz and at increasing strengths was given for 30 min via stainless-steel needles inserted into standard acupoints on the leg and back, respectively. Immunochemistry was used to examine the immunoreactivity of the NMDA receptor 1 (NR1) subunit in the spinal cord dorsal horn. The results are as follows: (1) PES relieved neuropathic pain and the effect was blocked by 1.0 mg/kg naloxone. (2) The effect of one session of PES lasted up to 12 h. (3) Repetitive PES showed a cumulative effect and no tolerance was observed. (4) There was a significant increase of NR1 immunoreactivity in the superficial laminae of the spinal cord of neuropathic pain rats as compared with naive rats. This increase could be reversed by repetitive 2 Hz PES. These results suggest that PES can relieve neuropathic pain, and that mu-opioid receptors and NMDA receptors are involved in the effect of PES.

The role of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) in the generation and maintenance of mechanical allodynia and hyperalgesia in rats after intradermal injection of capsaicin. Pain 2003; 104:201-8. Abstract
This study was designed to assess the role of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and its receptor in the generation and maintenance of secondary mechanical allodynia and hyperalgesia induced by intradermal injection of capsaicin in rats. Paw withdrawal responses (PWRs) to von Frey hairs with different bending forces applied on the rat paw were tested in this study. CGRP(8-37), a specific antagonist of CGRP 1 receptors, was delivered through a microdialysis fiber inserted across the dorsal horn. Post- and pretreatment paradigms were followed. When CGRP(8-37) was administered 1h after capsaicin injection, the mechanical allodynia and hyperalgesia were partially reversed in a dose-dependent manner. On the other hand, when rats were treated with CGRP(8-37) prior to capsaicin injection, the PWRs to von Frey applications were significantly reduced as compared to control animals. Collectively, these results suggest that CGRP receptors present in the dorsal horn are involved in the generation and maintenance of nociceptive behaviors associated with cutaneous inflammation.

Complex 1 crystallizes in the trigonal P3 space group (a = b = 18.1121(2), c = 11.987(0) A, and Z = 2). Complex 2 belongs to the triclinic P1 space group (a = 16.0145(3), b = 20.58650(10), c = 20.8452(3) A, alpha = 78.0590(10), beta = 67.9200(10), gamma = 68.1540(10) degrees, and Z = 4). Complex 3 belongs to the monoclinic P2(1)/m space group (a = 14.9863(3), b = 13.533, c = 15.6171(3) A, beta = 116.8970(10) degrees, and Z = 2). Complexes 4 and 5 are isomorphous (4: trigonal, P3; a = b = 11.8661(4), c = 18.2034(10) A, Z = 2; 5: a = b = 11.9001(5), c = 18.1229(11) A, Z = 2). A Ln3+ ion is in the center of the prism formed by six nickel atoms. It coordinates to nine oxygen atoms. Its coordination polyhedron may be best described as a tricapped trigonal prism. The five complexes all have a core of [LnNi6(Gly)6-(mu 3-OH)3(H2O)6]6+ and were obtained through the edge-ligand exchange of the three mu 2-OH2 ligands of [LnNi6(Gly)6-(mu 3-OH)3(H2O)6(mu 2-OH2)3]6+ partly or wholly by glycine or Cl-. Magnetic measurements reveal that 1 and 4 exhibit antiferromagnetic interaction, while 5 exhibits a ferromagnetic interaction.

Abstract
AIM Our previous studies showed that electroacupuncture (EA) could inhibited radiant heat induced pain and acute or chronic inflammatory pain in rats. In the present study, we observed whether EA with different frequencies could suppress neuropathic pain. METHODS L5/L6 nerve ligation model was used to assess the effect of EA on neuropathic pain. Mechanical allodynia was represented by 50% withdrawal threshold, while cold-induced ongoing pain was detected by the number of paw lift in 5 min when the rat was put on a 5 degrees cold plate. Han's acupoint nerve stimulator (HANS) was connected to needles inserted into acupoints "jiaji" and "Zusanli" in both sides. The parameters were: (intensity: 0.5-1-2 mA, 10 min each; frequency 2 Hz or 100 Hz; pulse width: 0.6 ms for 2 Hz, 0.2 ms for 100 Hz). RESULTS EA of both 2 Hz and 100 Hz could relieve the mechanical allodynia, where 2 Hz could induce the effect with shorter latency; they could also relieve the cold-induced ongoing pain, where the effect of 2 Hz outlasted the EA session by up to 48 h after repetitive stimulations over several weeks; a significant relieving effect on cold-induced ongoing pain could also be induced by needle insertion without stimulation. CONCLUSION EA could relieve neuropathic pain, the analgesic effect of 2 Hz EA is higher than 100 Hz EA.

Abstract
Three novel complexes, Cd3tma2*13H2O (1), Cd3tma2*dabco*2H2O (2), and Cd3Htma3*8H2O (3) (tma = trimesate), of cadmium(II)-trimesate coordination polymers are obtained from hydrothermal reaction. 1 (C18H32O25Cd3) crystallizes in the monoclinic C2/c space group [a = 18.985(2) A, b = 7.3872(6) A, c = 20.432(2) A, = 97.1660(10), and Z = 4]. 2 (C24H22N2O14Cd3) crystallizes in the monoclinic P2(1)/c space group [a = 10.1323(2) A, b = 19.5669(5) A, c = 13.15880(10) A, = 108.9810(10), and Z = 4]. 3 (C27H28O26Cd3) belongs to the trigonal P31c space group [a = 15.7547(3) A, b = 15.7547(3) A, c = 7.93160(10) A, and Z = 2]. The Cd(II) centers in the three complexes are bridged by tma ligands in the coordination fashion of unidentate, bridging unidentate, bidentate, chelating bis-bidentate, chelating/bridging bis-bidentate, or chelating/bridging bidentate to form the T-shaped molecular bilayer motif for 1, chicken-wire-like motif for 2, and honeycomb-like porous structure for 3, respectively, in which the T-shaped molecular bilayer motif and chicken-wire-like motif are further interlinked in interdigitating or alternating fashion to construct the different coordination architectures. These three complexes exhibit strong fluorescent emission bands at 355 nm (lambda(ex) = 220 nm) for 1, 437 nm (lambda(ex) = 365 nm) for 2, and 353 nm (lambda(ex) = 218 nm) for 3 in the solid state at room temperature.

Abstract
Orphanin FQ (OFQ) and endomorphins (EM) are newly characterized members of opioid peptide family. OFQ has been shown to antagonize morphine analgesia at supraspinal level, whereas endomorphins are highly selective endogenous ligands for mu receptor, showing analgesic effect at both spinal and supraspinal level. OFQ and EM-2 (EM2) immunoreactivity (ir) was measured by radioimmunoassay in nociception-related brain areas of rats subjected to L5/L6 spinal nerve ligation, using sham operated rats as control. It was found that: (1) the content of EM2-ir of spinal nerve ligated rats showed a significant increase (778%) in periaqueductal gray (PAG), and a significant decrease (43%) in striatum, compared with the control group. (2) a significant increase of the content of OFQ-ir was found in amygdala (+841%) and PAG (+459%), respectively in spinal nerve ligated rats. High pressure liquid chromatography showed that the EM2-ir and OFQ-ir were both heterogeneous with the major part eluting at the position of EM2 and OFQ standard, respectively. These results suggest that spinal nerve ligation induces significant changes in the content of EM2-ir and OFQ-ir in some discrete brain areas, which may play a role in nociceptive modulation.

Abstract
It has been reported that intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) injection of nociception/orphanin FQ (OFQ) can antagonize morphine analgesia, whereas i.c.v. OFQ antibody can reverse morphine tolerance. Nocistatin (NST) is a recently characterized neuropeptide possessing an antagonizing effect on OFQ. Here we examine whether i.c.v. NST would result in a reversal of morphine tolerance. The results showed that: (1) i.c.v. NST at doses of 0.005, 0.05, 0.5, 5 or 50 ng per rat produced a bell-shaped dose-dependent reversal of chronic morphine tolerance, with maximum response at 0.5 ng. (2) Acute morphine tolerance could also be reversed, albeit partially, by i.c.v. NST at 0.5 ng. (3) The reversal of acute and chronic morphine tolerance by NST was completely abolished when NST (0.5 ng) was co-injected with (8 microg) OFQ. Since OFQ and NST are derived from the same preprohormone, the profile of its splicing in the CNS may play an important role in determining the effectiveness of morphine analgesia.
