Characterization of a retroreflector array for 320-GHz interferometer system in Heliotron J. THE REVIEW OF SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS 2023; 94:093501. Abstract
A retroreflector array, composed of a cluster of small retroreflectors, is experimentally studied for application to a Michelson-type interferometer system in the fusion plasma experiment. Such a new-type reflector has the potential to be a vital and effective tool at a spatially limited location, such as on the vacuum chamber wall of plasma experimental devices. To investigate the effect of retroreflector array on the reflected beam properties, a tabletop experiment is performed with the retroreflector array composed of 4 mm corner-cube retroreflectors and with a 320-GHz (λ ∼ 0.937 mm) submillimeter wave source. An imaging camera is utilized to measure the submillimeter wave beam profile and is scanned perpendicularly to the beam propagation direction if necessary. The experimental result exhibits a diffraction effect on the reflected beam, resulting in the emergence of discrete peaks on the reflected beam profile, as predicted in the past numerical study; however, the most reflected beam power converges on the one reflected into the incident direction, resulting from a property as a retroreflector. Furthermore, the dependence of the reflected beam on the incident beam angle is characterized while fixing the detector position, and the retroreflection beam intensity is found to vary due to the diffraction effect. Such an undesired variation of beam intensity induced by the diffraction can be suppressed with a focusing lens placed in front of the detector in the practical application to an interferometer.

Development and initial results of 320 GHz interferometer system in Heliotron J. THE REVIEW OF SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS 2022; 93:113519. Abstract
A new 320 GHz solid-state source interferometer is installed in the Heliotron J helical device to explore the physics of high-density plasmas (ne > 2-3 × 1019 m-3, typically) realized with advanced fueling techniques. This interferometry system is of the Michelson type and is based on the heterodyne principle, with two independent solid-state sources that can deliver an output power of up to 50 mW. A high time resolution measurement of <1 µs can be derived by tuning the frequency of one source in the frequency range of 312-324 GHz on the new system, which can realize the fluctuation measurement. We successfully measured the line-averaged electron density in high-density plasma experiments. The measured density agreed well with a microwave interferometer measurement using a different viewing chord, demonstrating that the new system can be used for routine diagnostics of electron density in Heliotron J.

Abstract
The Paα line (1875.13 nm) in the near-infrared (NIR) region was evaluated to apply Stark broadening of the line spectrum to the electron density measurement of the small-pellet ablation cloud in Heliotron J, a medium-sized helical-axis heliotron device. Paα is three-to-four times broader than the visible Hβ line (486.13 nm) for the same electron density. Using a portable NIR spectrometer, preliminary proof-of-concept experiments determined the marginal density, below which the broadening was undetectable. The lower detection density limit can be decreased using a narrower entrance slit or a denser grating.

Abstract
A triple antiemetic therapy combining aprepitant (APR) with conventional double antiemetic therapy, including 5-hydroxytryptamine 3 receptor antagonist (5-HT₃-RA) and dexamethasone (DEX), is recommended for preventing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting induced by a carboplatin (CBDCA) regimen. However, consensus on the additive effects of APR for gynecological patients on a combined regimen of paclitaxel and CBDCA (TC regimen) has yet to be reached. This retrospective study investigated the antiemetic effects of palonosetron and DEX (PD therapy) and granisetron and DEX with APR (GDA therapy) in patients with gynecologic cancer and who underwent their first TC regimen cycle between April 2017 and March 2020 at the Gunma University Hospital Outpatient Chemotherapy Center. The results showed that the complete response rate of the 92 patients who underwent PD therapy (PD group) and the 46 patients who underwent GDA therapy (GDA group) were both 80.4% (p = 1.000), and the complete control rates of the PD and GDA groups were 78.3% and 80.4%, respectively (p = 0.828), resulting in no significant difference. Furthermore, we observed no significant difference between the PD and GDA groups in the incidence of grade ≥2 nausea, vomiting, and anorexia (nausea: 7.6% vs. 0%, p = 0.095; vomiting: 4.3% vs. 0%, p = 0.301; and anorexia: 9.8% vs. 2.2%, p = 0.164). Concerning adverse events, compared to the PD group, the GDA group showed significantly higher incidence of grade ≥2 malaise (7.6% vs. 19.6%, p = 0.039). Given the lack of difference in the antiemetic effects of PD and GDA therapies, antiemetic therapy should be selected carefully for individual patients by accounting for the incidence of adverse reactions and interactions with APR.

Development of beam emission spectroscopy in the helically symmetric experiment stellarator. THE REVIEW OF SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS 2021; 92:063503. Abstract
This study shows the feasibility of a beam emission spectroscopy (BES) diagnostic in the Helically Symmetric eXperiment (HSX) stellarator for obtaining the spatiotemporal structure of density fluctuation. A beam emission simulation was applied to HSX plasmas to design and optimize viewing chords and to estimate the beam emission spectrum. A Doppler-shifted beam emission spectrum was measured from a 30 kV, 4 A diagnostic neutral beam injected into HSX plasmas. The beam emission was measured with a high-time-resolution avalanche photodiode (APD) assembly to determine the feasibility of BES in HSX. For HSX plasmas heated by 28 GHz electron cyclotron heating, a mode around f = 15 kHz was observed in the BES signal. The coherence between the BES signal and the density fluctuation measured by an interferometer system was significant. A plan for improving the BES system to enable the measurement of higher frequency related to turbulent transport is presented. The array of sightlines proposed in this study can be used to measure beam emission with a Doppler shift larger than 3 nm (blue shift), which enables the use of a wide passband interference filter to obtain higher throughput. The adoption of a large objective optics and a chilled APD assembly will improve the signal-to-noise ratio.

Sensitivity improvement of infrared imaging video bolometer for divertor plasma measurement. THE REVIEW OF SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS 2021; 92:063521. Abstract
The sensitivity of an infrared imaging video bolometer (IRVB) was improved for the measurement of relatively low energy plasma radiation from the viewpoint of the metal foil absorber material. The photon energy of the radiation was considered up to 1 keV for the divertor plasma measurement. The thickness of the foil absorber was evaluated not only for conventional heavy elements, e.g., platinum, but also for light elements by the relation between the photon energy and attenuation length and by mechanical strength. A heat-transfer calculation using ANSYS suggested that light elements with practical foil thickness provide a higher temperature rise of the foil absorber compared with heavier elements with practical foil thickness. The maximum of the temperature rise was evaluated using He-Ne laser irradiation onto absorber samples. The material dependence of the temperature rise has a similar tendency between calculations and experiments. Experimentally, the sensitivity of the IRVB improved from 280 to 110 µW/cm2 using titanium with 1 µm thickness compared with conventional platinum with 2.5 µm thickness. Consequently, the signal-to-noise ratio of the IRVB could be improved from 2.8 to 9.1.

Abstract
We report the development of a new interferometer with two stable, high-power, 320 GHz solid-state sources in Heliotron J. A heterodyne Michelson interferometer optical scheme is employed. Two solid-state oscillators are utilized as sources with a fixed frequency at 320 GHz and frequency tunable of 312-324 GHz. Quasi-optical techniques are used for beam transmission. The beam is elongated in the vertical direction with two off-axis parabolic mirrors and injected into the plasma as a sheet beam for the multi-channel measurement (>5 ch.). Passing through the plasma, the beam is reflected at a retroreflector-array installed at the vacuum chamber wall. The retroreflector-array is a bunch of retroreflector structures, which can suppress the beam refraction caused by plasma without much space inside a vacuum chamber unlike a single retroreflector and can facilitate the system design. The source, detectors, and the retroreflector-array are tested to evaluate their basic performance on a tabletop experiment.

1043 Association of left ventricular global longitudinal strain with myocardial perfusion evaluated by 13N-ammonia positron emission tomography in hemodialysis patients with preserved ejection fraction. Abstract
Abstract
Background
Global longitudinal strain (GLS) is an echocardiographic marker to detect subclinical left ventricular systolic dysfunction prior to the appearance of reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). Reduced GLS identified in patients with maintenance hemodialysis (HD) has been reported to be a predictor of their higher mortality and cardiovascular events. On the other hand, pharmacological stress 13N-ammonia positron emission tomography (13N-NH3-PET) has been an established and reliable imaging modality to evaluate myocardial perfusion expressed as coronary flow reserve (CFR) or maximal stress myocardial blood flow (MBF). CFR and MBF are powerful parameters to detect coronary artery disease and to predict cardiovascular events and mortality. However, association between GLS and those myocardial perfusion parameters are not fully understood.
Purpose:The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between GLS and the myocardial perfusion parameters of 13N-NH3-PET in HD patients with preserved LVEF.
Methods
We studied 24 HD patients (mean age 67 years, 67% male) who underwent ATP stress 13N-NH3-PET as well as transthoracic echocardiography including 2-dimensional speckle tracking imaging for suspected ischemic heart disease. Exclusion criteria were as follows: LVEF <50%, moderate to severe valvular diseases, and atrial fibrillation. Myocardial perfusion abnormality (MPA) was defined as CFR <2.0 and/or stress MBF <2.0.
Results
Mean GLS in all patients was -16.2 ± 3.6%. The patients were divided into 2 groups based on GLS: patients with reduced GLS (<-16%) (Group A, N = 11) and those with preserved GLS (≧-16%) (Group B, N = 14). There were no significant differences between 2 groups in age, gender, body mass index, left ventricular mass index, and average E/e’. Nevertheless, Group A had significantly lower stress MBF than Group B (1.7 ± 0.41 vs 2.0 ± 0.33, p = 0.031). In addition, Group A showed more frequent MPA compared with Group B (81.8% vs 42.9%, p = 0.043). There was a moderate correlation between GLS and stress MBF (r = 0.62, p = 0.0012), whereas no significant correlation was noted between GLS and CFR (r = 0.079, p = 0.71).
Conclusion
Reduced GLS was significantly associated MPA. MPA may be one of the major contributors to the reduction in GLS in HD patients with preserved LVEF.

Abstract
Zonal flow appears in toroidal, magnetically confined plasmas as part of the self-regulated interaction of turbulence and transport processes. For toroidal plasmas having a strong toroidal magnetic field, the zonal flow is predominately poloidally directed. This Letter reports the first observation of a zonal flow that is toroidally directed. The measurements are made just inside the last closed flux surface of reversed field pinch plasmas that have a dominant poloidal magnetic field. A limit cycle oscillation between the strength of the zonal flow and the amplitude of plasma potential fluctuations is observed, which provides evidence for the self-regulation characteristic of drift-wave-type plasma turbulence. The measurements help advance understanding and gyrokinetic modeling of toroidal plasmas in the pursuit of fusion energy.

Density profile measurement with a heavy ion beam probe in a toroidal plasma of the compact helical system. THE REVIEW OF SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS 2018; 89:113507. Abstract
A possibility of electron density measurements with heavy ion beam probes (HIBPs) has been demonstrated, along with their capability to measure the potential and magnetic field. A method has been proposed to reconstruct the electron density profile [A. Fujisawa et al., Rev. Sci. Instrum. 74, 3335 (2003)]. In the method, the profile of secondary beam currents is converted into a local density profile by taking into account local brightness and so-called path integral effects which mean the effect of beam attenuation along the beam orbit. Here the article presents the HIBP measurement of the electron density profile after the proposed method was first applied on the real experimental data of compact helical system plasmas. In the real application, the hollow density and the peaked profiles are successfully obtained with sufficiently high temporal resolution (a few ms), in accordance with the electron density profile measured with Thomson scattering for electron cyclotron resonance heating and neutral beam injection plasmas.

Abstract
A capacitive probe [Tan et al., Rev. Sci. Instrum. 88, 023502 (2017)] is one of a few diagnostics that is directly sensitive to the plasma potential. Using this diagnostic technique, a Multi-channel Linear Capacitive Probe (MLCP) is developed for turbulence measurements. The MLCP has 10 spatial channels and provides 9 points of radial electric field measurements simultaneously with a spatial step of 7 mm. A new readout circuit and a correction technique for low frequency attenuation are also developed to achieve the required spatial and time resolution. A performance test of the MLCP using a reversed field pinch plasma confirms that the MLCP resolves sub-centimeter structures of the equilibrium radial electric field profile and fluctuations up to 680 kHz.

Abstract
A simple near-infrared (NIR) spectrometer with a wavelength range of 898-2130 nm has recently been applied to diagnose Heliotron J plasmas. It adopts a symmetrical crossed Czerny-Turner mount equipped with a thermoelectrically cooled 512 channel InGaAs linear sensor. Reciprocal linear dispersion was deduced to 96.37 nm/mm at the center of the detector. External filters can be inserted into the path of the collection optics to reject second-order spectra, as needed. Absolute intensity calibration was performed together with a visible spectrometer using a tungsten halogen lamp, and the effect of the transmittance fringe in the visible region of the applied long-pass filter on the NIR calibration was investigated. The intended application of the NIR spectrometer includes extending the wavelength region of a spectral monitor to less contaminated regions for Heliotron J plasma studies. In preliminary measurements, we observed the Paschen series for the hydrogen pellet injection plasma and two atomic helium lines, i.e., 2S-2P singlet and triplet lines, in helium gas puffing experiments. A continuum spectrum in this regime that is attributable to black-body radiation from hot spots on the plasma-facing components was identified. In addition, this may also be used to monitor background radiation in the YAG-Thomson scattering signals near 1064 nm.

Abstract
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated lymphoproliferative disorders (LPDs) sometimes occur following Anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG) administration for allogenic stem cell transplantation but are rare in aplastic anemia (AA) patients. A 55-year-old woman with AA following ATG developed refractory fever and was diagnosed with EBV-LPD. She was successfully treated with weekly rituximab monotherapy; however, she developed EBV encephalitis. She was admitted to the intensive care unit and finally recovered from unconsciousness. EBV-LPD should be considered after ATG for AA when symptoms appear. Because EBV-LPD following ATG for AA can rapidly progress, weekly monitoring of EBV-DNA and early intervention may be necessary.

Abstract
A Faraday-cup type lost-fast ion probe (FLIP) has been designed and installed in Heliotron J for the purpose of the studies of interaction between fast ions and MHD instabilities. The FLIP can measure the co-going fast ions whose energy is in the range of 1.7-42.5 keV (proton) and pitch angle of 90∘-140∘, especially for fast ions having the injection energy of neutral beam injection (NBI). The FLIP successfully measured the re-entering passing ions and trapped lost-fast ions caused by fast-ion-driven energetic particle modes in NBI heated plasmas.

Abstract
This paper describes the development study of the beam emission spectroscopy (BES) for the turbulent transport study in Heliotron J. Modification of the sightlines (10 × 4 for edge and 10 × 2 for edge) enables us to obtain 2-dimensional BES imaging. The cooling effect on the reduction in the electrical noise of avalanche photodiode (APD) assembly has been investigated using a refrigerant cooling system. When the temperature of the APD element has set to be -20 °C, the electrical noise can be reduced more than 50%. The measurement error of the phase difference in the case of low signal level has been tested by two light-emitting diode lamps. The APD cooling has an effect to improve the measurement error at the low signal level of APD.

Injection barrel with a tapered structure for a low speed and small size cryogenic hydrogen pellet in medium-sized plasma fusion devices. THE REVIEW OF SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS 2016; 87:103503. Abstract
An injection barrel was designed and fabricated for a small size 0.8 mm cryogenic pellet with a low speed of 200-300 m/s in medium-sized plasma fusion devices. Pellet injection with pneumatic acceleration was examined using a conventional in situ technique. A tapered structure was applied in the downstream side of the injection barrel to satisfy the requirement of pellet speed reduction by expansion of the propellant gas. Shadowgraph and light gate measurements show that the intact pellets have speeds of 260 ± 30 m/s and a typical size of 1.1-1.2 mm. The pellet ablation code based on a neutral gas shielding model shows that the penetration depth of the measured pellet parameters does not cross the plasma center, even in medium-sized plasma devices such as the Heliotron J helical device. The injection barrel with a tapered structure developed in this study is feasible for low speed pellet injection.

Abstract
Objective Interferon alpha (IFN-α) is a key cytokine associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). IFN-α induces the expression of CD64 on monocytes (mCD64). Although enhanced mCD64 expression has been reported in patients with SLE, it has never been assessed quantitatively. The aim of this study was to investigate whether or not mCD64 expression correlates with SLE disease activity. Methods The mCD64 expression levels were assessed quantitatively in 40 patients with active or inactive SLE by using flow cytometry. The mCD64 expression levels were subsequently compared with the SLE disease activity index (SLEDAI) and levels of existing SLE activity biomarkers, such as anti-DNA antibody, complements, and so on. Results The mCD64 expression was significantly higher in active disease than in inactive disease SLE (median molecules/cell, interquartile range: 34,648, 8174–24,932 and 20,865, 6357–21,503, respectively; p < 0.001). The levels of mCD64 expression strongly correlated with SLEDAI ( r = 0.68, p < 0.001). Conclusion The mCD64 expression is a simple and useful biomarker for evaluating disease activity in patients with SLE.

Highly time-resolved evaluation technique of instantaneous amplitude and phase difference using analytic signals for multi-channel diagnostics. THE REVIEW OF SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS 2014; 85:11E814. Abstract
A fluctuation analysis technique using analytic signals is proposed. Analytic signals are suitable to characterize a single mode with time-dependent amplitude and frequency, such as an MHD mode observed in fusion plasmas since the technique can evaluate amplitude and frequency at a specific moment without limitations of temporal and frequency resolutions, which is problematic in Fourier-based analyses. Moreover, a concept of instantaneous phase difference is newly introduced, and error of the evaluated phase difference and its error reduction techniques using conditional/ensemble averaging are discussed. These techniques are applied to experimental data of the beam emission spectroscopic measurement in the Heliotron J device, which demonstrates that the technique can describe nonlinear evolution of MHD instabilities. This technique is widely applicable to other diagnostics having necessity to evaluate phase difference.

First measurement of time evolution of electron temperature profiles with Nd:YAG Thomson scattering system on Heliotron J. THE REVIEW OF SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS 2014; 85:11D819. Abstract
A Nd:YAG Thomson scattering system has been developed for Heliotron J. The system consists of two 550 mJ 50 Hz lasers, large collection optics, and 25 radial channel (∼1 cm spatial resolution) interference polychromators. This measurement system achieves a S/N ratio of ∼50 for low-density plasma (ne ∼ 0.5 × 10(19) m(-3)). A time evolution of electron temperature profiles was measured with this system for a high-intensity gas-puff (HIGP) fueling neutral-beam-injection plasma. The peripheral temperature of the higher-density phase after HIGP recovers to the low-density pre-HIGP level, suggesting that improving particle transport in the HIGP plasma may be possible.

A novel electron density reconstruction method for asymmetrical toroidal plasmas. THE REVIEW OF SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS 2014; 85:053506. Abstract
A novel reconstruction method is developed for acquiring the electron density profile from multi-channel interferometric measurements of strongly asymmetrical toroidal plasmas. It is based on a regularization technique, and a generalized cross-validation function is used to optimize the regularization parameter with the aid of singular value decomposition. The feasibility of method could be testified by simulated measurements based on a magnetic configuration of the flexible helical-axis heliotron device, Heliotron J, which has an asymmetrical poloidal cross section. And the successful reconstruction makes possible to construct a multi-channel Far-infrared laser interferometry on this device. The advantages of this method are demonstrated by comparison with a conventional method. The factors which may affect the accuracy of the results are investigated, and an error analysis is carried out. Based on the obtained results, the proposed method is highly promising for accurately reconstructing the electron density in the asymmetrical toroidal plasma.

Abstract
In Japan, osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip secondary to acetabular dysplasia is very common, and there are few data concerning the pathogeneses and incidence of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). We have attempted to clarify the radiological prevalence of painful FAI in a cohort of Japanese patients and to investigate the radiological findings. We identified 176 symptomatic patients (202 hips) with Tönnis grade 0 or 1 osteoarthritis, whom we prospectively studied between August 2011 and July 2012. There were 61 men (65 hips) and 115 women (137 hips) with a mean age of 51.8 years (11 to 83). Radiological analyses included the α-angle, centre–edge angle, cross-over sign, pistol grip deformity and femoral head neck ratio. Of the 202 hips, 79 (39.1%) had acetabular dysplasia, while 80 hips (39.6%) had no known aetiology. We found evidence of FAI in 60 hips (29.7%). Radiological FAI findings associated with cam deformity were the most common. There was a significant relationship between the pistol grip deformity and both the α-angle (p < 0.001) and femoral head–neck ratio (p = 0.024). Radiological evidence of symptomatic FAI was not uncommon in these Japanese patients. Cite this article: Bone Joint J 2013;96-B:172–6.
