Abstract
The aim of this study is to develop environment friendly packaging and life style materials for replacing conventionally explored hazardous synthetic materials. The study carried out by using raw jute fibre reinforced thermoplastic corn starch (TPCS) is to develop biodegradable flexible composite materials. Flexible composites are prepared by maintaining with different fibre content (30 %, 40 % and 50 wt%). A thin coating of polyurethane based formulation is applied on one side of the developed composite to make it water resistant. Composite samples are examined in terms of their tensile properties, tear resistance, folding endurance, water absorbency, capillary action etc. The results show that flexible composites, having 50 % fibre content have tensile strength of 12.8 MPa and 12 MPa at cross and machine direction respectively compared to 3.1 MPa for the TPCS film. The Water drop test on the coated side of the developed material concluded that there is no water penetration even after 60 min of wetting. The interaction between two hydrophilic components is established with FTIR analysis. The XRD analysis was carried out to find the crystallinity of TPCS, Jute fibre and composite samples. Surface morphology and fibre/matrix interaction is observed by SEM. The detail chemical mechanism involved of fibre matrix interaction also been postulated. The scientific finding shows that the developed flexible material can be suitable for making packaging and life style items.

Abstract
High energy density electrochemical systems such as metal batteries suffer from uncontrollable dendrite growth on cycling, which can severely compromise battery safety and longevity. This originates from the thermodynamic preference of metal nucleation on electrode surfaces, where obtaining the crucial information on metal deposits in terms of crystal orientation, plated volume, and growth rate is very challenging. In situ liquid phase transmission electron microscopy (LPTEM) is a promising technique to visualize and understand electrodeposition processes, however a detailed quantification of which presents significant difficulties. Here by performing Zn electroplating and analyzing the data via basic image processing, this work not only sheds new light on the dendrite growth mechanism but also demonstrates a workflow showcasing how dendritic deposition can be visualized with volumetric and growth rate information. These results along with additionally corroborated 4D STEM analysis take steps to access information on the crystallographic orientation of the grown Zn nucleates and toward live quantification of in situ electrodeposition processes.

Abstract
Liquid-phase transmission electron microscopy (LPTEM) technique has been used to perform a wide range of in situ and operando studies. While most studies are based on the sample contrast change in the liquid, acquiring high qualitative results in the native liquid environment still poses a challenge. Herein, we present a novel and facile method to perform high-resolution and analytical electron microscopy studies in a liquid flow cell. This technique is based on removing the liquid from the observation area by a flow of gas. It is expected that the proposed approach can find broad applications in LPTEM studies.

Abstract
Solid-state sintering at high temperatures is commonly used to densify solid electrolytes. Yet, optimizing phase purity, structure, and grain sizes of solid electrolytes is challenging due to the lack of understanding of relevant processes during sintering. Here, we use an in situ environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) to monitor the sintering behavior of NASICON-type Li1.3Al0.3Ti1.7(PO4)3 (LATP) at low environmental pressures. Our results show that while no major morphological changes are observed at 10-2 Pa and only coarsening is induced at 10 Pa, environmental pressures of 300 and 750 Pa lead to the formation of typically sintered LATP electrolytes. Furthermore, the use of pressure as an additional parameter in sintering allows the grain size and shape of electrolyte particles to be controlled.

Abstract
Liquid phase transmission electron microscopy (TEM) provides a useful means to study a wide range of dynamics in solution with near-atomic spatial resolution and sub-microsecond temporal resolution. However, it is still a challenge to control the chemical environment (such as the flow of liquid, flow rate, and the liquid composition) in a liquid cell, and evaluate its effect on the various dynamic phenomena. In this work, we have systematically demonstrated the flow performance of anin situliquid TEM system, which is based on 'on-chip flow' driven by external pressure pumps. We studied the effects of different chemical environments in the liquid cell as well as the electrochemical potential on the deposition and dissolution behavior of Cu crystals. The results show that uniform Cu deposition can be obtained at a higher liquid flow rate (1.38μl min-1), while at a lower liquid flow rate (0.1μl min-1), the growth of Cu dendrites was observed. Dendrite formation could be further promoted byin situaddition of foreign ions, such as phosphates. The generality of this technique was confirmed by studying Zn electrodeposition. Our direct observations not only provide new insights into understanding the nucleation and growth but also give guidelines for the design and synthesis of desired nanostructures for specific applications. Finally, the capability of controlling the chemical environment adds another dimension to the existing liquid phase TEM technique, extending the possibilities to study a wide range of dynamic phenomena in liquid media.

Abstract
High interfacial resistance and unstable interphase between cathode active materials (CAMs) and solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) in the composite cathode are two of the main challenges in current all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs). In this work, the all-phosphate-based LiFePO4 (LFP) and Li1.3 Al0.3 Ti1.7 (PO4 )3 (LATP) composite cathode is obtained by a co-firing technique. Benefiting from the densified structure and the formed redox-active Li3- x Fe2- x - y Tix Aly (PO4 )3 (LFTAP) interphase, the mixed ion- and electron-conductive LFP/LATP composite cathode facilitates the stable operation of bulk-type ASSBs in different voltage ranges with almost no capacity degradation upon cycling. Particularly, both the LFTAP interphase and LATP electrolyte can be activated. The cell cycled between 4.1 and 2.2 V achieves a high reversible capacity of 2.8 mAh cm-2 (36 µA cm-2 , 60 °C). Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the asymmetric charge/discharge behaviors of the cells are attributed to the existence of the electrochemically active LFTAP interphase, which results in more sluggish Li+ kinetics and more expansive LFTAP plateaus during discharge compared with that of charge. This work demonstrates a simple but effective strategy to stabilize the CAM/SSE interface in high mass loading ASSBs.

Abstract
Conformal coating of silicon (Si) anode particles is a common strategy for improving their mechanical integrity, to mitigate battery capacity fading due to particle volume expansion, which can result in particle crumbling due to lithiation induced strain and excessive solid-electrolyte interface formation. Here, we use operando transmission electron microscopy in an open cell to show that TiO2 coatings on Si/SiO2 particles undergo thickness dependent rupture on battery cycling where thicker coatings crumble more readily than thinner (∼5 nm) coatings, which corroborates the difference in their capacities.

Abstract
Polyacrylonitrile-based carbon nanofibers (PAN-based CNFs) have great potential to be used for carbon dioxide (CO2) capture due to their excellent CO2 adsorption properties. The porous structure of PAN-based CNFs originates from their turbostratic structure, which is composed of numerous disordered stacks of graphitic layers. During the carbonization process, the internal structure is arranged toward the ordered graphitic structure, which significantly influences the gas adsorption properties of PAN-based CNFs. However, the relation between structural transformation and CO2 capture is still not clear enough to tune the PAN-based CNFs. In this paper, we show that, with increasing carbonization temperature, the arrangement of the PAN-based CNF's structure along the stack and lateral directions takes place independently: gradually aligning and merging along the stack direction and enlarging along the lateral direction. Further, we correlate the structural arrangement and the CO2 adsorption properties of the PAN-based CNFs to propose a comprehensive structural mechanism. This mechanism provides the knowledge to understand and tailor the gas adsorption properties of PAN-based CNFs.

Abstract
Background Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are commonly used in nanomedicine because of their unique spectral properties, chemical and biological stability, and ability to quench the fluorescence of organic dyes attached to their surfaces. However, the utility of spherical AuNPs for activatable fluorescence sensing of molecular processes have been confined to resonance-matched fluorophores in the 500 nm to 600 nm spectral range to maximize dye fluorescence quenching efficiency. Expanding the repertoire of fluorophore systems into the NIR fluorescence regimen with emission >800 nm will facilitate the analysis of multiple biological events with high detection sensitivity. Objective The primary goal of this study is to determine if spherical AuNP-induced radiative rate suppression of non-resonant near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probes can serve as a versatile nanoconstruct for highly sensitive detection and imaging of activated caspase-3 in aqueous media and cancer cells. This required the development of activatable NIR fluorescence sensors of caspase-3 designed to overcome the nonspecific degradation and release of the surface coatings in aqueous media. Method We harnessed the fluorescence-quenching properties and multivalency of spherical AuNPs to develop AuNP-templated activatable NIR fluorescent probes to detect activated caspase-3, an intracellular reporter of early cell death. Freshly AuNPs were coated with a multifunctional NIR fluorescent dye-labeled peptide (LS422) consisting of an RGD peptide sequence that targets αvβ3-integrin protein (αvβ3) on the surface of cancer cells to mediate the uptake and internalization of the sensors in tumor cells; a DEVD peptide sequence for reporting the induction of cell death through caspase-3 mediated NIR fluorescence enhancement; and a multidentate hexacysteine sequence for enhancing self-assembly and stabilizing the multifunctional construct on AuNPs. The integrin binding affinity of LS422 and caspase-3 kinetics were determined by a radioligand competitive binding and fluorogenic peptide assays, respectively. Detection of intracellular caspase-3, cell viability, and the internalization of LS422 in cancer cells were determined by confocal NIR fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy. Results Narrow size AuNPs (13 nm) were prepared and characterized by transmission electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering. When assembled on the AuNPs, the binding constant of LS422 for αvβ3 improved 11-fold from 13.2 nM to 1.2 nM. Whereas the catalytic turnover of caspase-3 by LS422-AuNPs was similar to the reference fluorogenic peptide, the binding affinity for the enzyme increased by a factor of 2. Unlike the αvβ3 positive, but caspase-3 negative breast cancer MCF-7 cells, treatment of the αvβ3 and caspase-3 positive lung cancer A549 cells with Paclitaxel showed significant fluorescence enhancement within 30 minutes, which correlated with caspase-3 specific activation of LS422-AuNPs fluorescence. Incorporation of a 3.5 mW NIR laser source into our spectrofluorometer increased the detection sensitivity by an order of magnitude (limit of detection ~0.1 nM of cypate) and significantly decreased the signal noise relative to a xenon lamp. This gain in sensitivity enabled the detection of substrate hydrolysis at a broad range of inhibitor concentrations without photobleaching the cypate dye. Conclusion The multifunctional AuNPs demonstrate the use of a non-resonant quenching strategy to design activatable NIR fluorescence molecular probes. The nanoconstruct offers a selective reporting method for detecting activated caspase-3, imaging of cell viability, identifying dying cells, and visualizing the functional status of intracellular enzymes. Performing these tasks with NIR fluorescent probes creates an opportunity to translate the in vitro and cellular analysis of enzymes into in vivo interrogation of their functional status using deep tissue penetrating NIR fluorescence analytical methods.

Abstract
The field of electrochemistry promises solutions for the future energy crisis and environmental deterioration by developing optimized batteries, fuel-cells and catalysts. Combined with in situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM), it can reveal functional and structural changes. A drawback of this relatively young field is lack of reproducibility in controlling the liquid environment while retaining the imaging and analytical capabilities. Here, a platform for in situ electrochemical studies inside a TEM with a pressure-driven flow is presented, with the capability to control the flow direction and to ensure the liquid will always pass through the region of interest. As a result, the system offers the opportunity to define the mass transport and control the electric potential, giving access to the full kinetics of the redox reaction. In order to show the benefits of the system, copper dendrites are electrodeposited and show reliable electric potential control. Next, their morphology is changed by tuning the mass transport conditions. Finally, at a liquid thickness of approximately 100 nm, the diffraction pattern revealed the 1,1,1 planes of the copper crystals, indicating an atomic resolution down to 2.15 Å. Such control of the liquid thickness enabled elemental mapping, allowing us to distinguish the spatial distribution of different elements in liquid.

Abstract
Uniaxial random field disorder induces a spontaneous transverse magnetization in the XY model. Adding a rotating driving field, we find a critical point attached to the number of driving cycles needed to complete a limit cycle, the first discovery of this phenomenon in a magnetic system. Near the critical drive, time crystal behavior emerges, in which the period of the limit cycles becomes an integer n > 1 multiple of the driving period. The period n can be engineered via specific disorder patterns. Because n generically increases with system size, the resulting period multiplication cascade is reminiscent of that occurring in amorphous solids subject to oscillatory shear near the onset of plastic deformation, and of the period bifurcation cascade near the onset of chaos in nonlinear systems, suggesting it is part of a larger class of phenomena in transitions of dynamical systems. Applications include magnets, electron nematics, and quantum gases.

Antibacterial Activities of Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) Extracts Against Three Food Borne Pathogens: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Abstract
Evaluation of the in vitro antibacterial activity of aqueous and ethanolic extracts isolated from Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) buds against three food borne pathogens, gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and gram-negative Escherichia coli & Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This interventional study was carried out during the period of July 2018 to June 2019 in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics with the collaboration of Department of Microbiology, Mymensingh Medical College, Mymensingh, Bangladesh. The antibacterial activity was tested at different concentrations of both extracts of spice by using disc diffusion & broth dilution method. The extracts were prepared by using solvents aqueous & ethanol. The test microorganisms were also tested for their activity against a standard antibiotic Gentamicin (80mg) by broth dilution method and the result was compared with that of Aqueous and Ethanolic extracts. Aqueous and ethanolic extracts of clove had inhibitory activity against the test bacteria. Among different concentrations of the ACE, 500μg/ml & above concentration showed inhibitory effect against Staphylococcus aureus & Escherichia coli and 700μg/ml & above concentration showed inhibitory effect against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In case of ECE, 500μg/ml & above concentration showed inhibitory effect against aforesaid bacteria. In disc diffusion method, S. aureus was found to be most susceptible to ACE (30.5mm) & Pseudomonas aeruginosa was found to be most susceptible to ECE (38mm). Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of ECE were lower than ACE for the test bacteria except Staphylococcus aureus where MICs of ACE & ECE were the same. This result was also compared against a standard antibiotic Gentamicin where the MICs of Gentamicin were lower in comparison to MICs of ACE & ECE. The present study showed that aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Clove demonstrated antibacterial effects against food borne pathogens.

Abstract
Pt nanoparticles play an essential role in a wide variety of catalytic reactions. The activity of the particles strongly depends on their three-dimensional (3D) structure and exposed facets, as well as on the reactive environment. High-resolution electron microscopy has often been used to characterize nanoparticle catalysts but unfortunately most observations so far have been either performed in vacuum and/or using conventional (2D) in situ microscopy. The latter however does not provide direct 3D morphological information. We have implemented a quantitative methodology to measure variations of the 3D atomic structure of nanoparticles under the flow of a selected gas. We were thereby able to quantify refaceting of Pt nanoparticles with atomic resolution during various oxidation-reduction cycles. In a H2 environment, a more faceted surface morphology of the particles was observed with {100} and {111} planes being dominant. On the other hand, in O2 the percentage of {100} and {111} facets decreased and a significant increase of higher order facets was found, resulting in a more rounded morphology. This methodology opens up new opportunities toward in situ characterization of catalytic nanoparticles because for the first time it enables one to directly measure 3D morphology variations at the atomic scale in a specific gaseous reaction environment.

Abstract
The high Li-ion conductivity of the argyrodite Li6PS5Cl makes it a promising solid electrolyte candidate for all-solid-state Li-ion batteries. For future application, it is essential to identify facile synthesis procedures and to relate the synthesis conditions to the solid electrolyte material performance. Here, a simple optimized synthesis route is investigated that avoids intensive ball milling by direct annealing of the mixed precursors at 550 °C for 10 h, resulting in argyrodite Li6PS5Cl with a high Li-ion conductivity of up to 4.96 × 10-3 S cm-1 at 26.2 °C. Both the temperature-dependent alternating current impedance conductivities and solid-state NMR spin-lattice relaxation rates demonstrate that the Li6PS5Cl prepared under these conditions results in a higher conductivity and Li-ion mobility compared to materials prepared by the traditional mechanical milling route. The origin of the improved conductivity appears to be a combination of the optimal local Cl structure and its homogeneous distribution in the material. All-solid-state cells consisting of an 80Li2S-20LiI cathode, the optimized Li6PS5Cl electrolyte, and an In anode showed a relatively good electrochemical performance with an initial discharge capacity of 662.6 mAh g-1 when a current density of 0.13 mA cm-2 was used, corresponding to a C-rate of approximately C/20. On direct comparison with a solid-state battery using a solid electrolyte prepared by the mechanical milling route, the battery made with the new material exhibits a higher initial discharge capacity and Coulombic efficiency at a higher current density with better cycling stability. Nevertheless, the cycling stability is limited by the electrolyte stability, which is a major concern for these types of solid-state batteries.

Abstract
Lung cancer is one of the major causes of mortality worldwide and is on the rise in India. The identification of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations in nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has paved the way for personalized therapy in lung cancer with EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). Despite the proven efficacy of EGFR-TKIs in patients harboring EGFR mutations, their clinical utility is limited by the development of acquired resistance mechanisms by the tumor cells. T790M mutation accounts for 60% of all resistance mechanisms to EGFR TKIs and is responsible for treatment failure with first- and second-generation TKIs. With the development of novel therapeutic agents such as osimertinib to overcome this resistance mechanism, it is essential to detect patients harboring T790M mutation. There are several limitations with the use of tissue biopsy specimens for molecular testing such as poor quality and quantity of sample, tumor heterogeneity, occurrence of complications, and issues with repeat biopsy. Liquid biopsy offers a noninvasive approach that can be used for diagnostic purposes as well as for monitoring treatment response and evaluation of resistance mechanisms. This review focuses on the methods for molecular testing of tissue and liquid biopsy specimens for EGFR mutations, particularly EGFR T790M mutation.

Abstract
Using the magnetocaloric effect in nanoparticles holds great potential for efficient refrigeration and energy conversion. The most promising candidate materials for tailoring the Curie temperature to room temperature are rare-earth-based magnetic nanoalloys. However, only few high-nuclearity lanthanide/transition-metal nanoalloys have been produced so far. Here we report, for the first time, the observation of magnetic response in spark-produced LaFeSi nanoalloys. The results suggest that these nanoalloys can be used to exploit the magnetocaloric effect near room temperature; such a finding can lead to the creation of unique multicomponent materials for energy conversion, thus helping toward the realization of a sustainable energy economy.

Abstract
Solid-state batteries potentially offer increased lithium-ion battery energy density and safety as required for large-scale production of electrical vehicles. One of the key challenges toward high-performance solid-state batteries is the large impedance posed by the electrode–electrolyte interface. However, direct assessment of the lithium-ion transport across realistic electrode–electrolyte interfaces is tedious. Here we report two-dimensional lithium-ion exchange NMR accessing the spontaneous lithium-ion transport, providing insight on the influence of electrode preparation and battery cycling on the lithium-ion transport over the interface between an argyrodite solid-electrolyte and a sulfide electrode. Interfacial conductivity is shown to depend strongly on the preparation method and demonstrated to drop dramatically after a few electrochemical (dis)charge cycles due to both losses in interfacial contact and increased diffusional barriers. The reported exchange NMR facilitates non-invasive and selective measurement of lithium-ion interfacial transport, providing insight that can guide the electrolyte–electrode interface design for future all-solid-state batteries. The large impedance at the interface between electrode and electrolyte poses a challenge to the development of solid-state batteries. Here the authors utilize two-dimensional lithium-ion exchange-NMR to monitor the spontaneous lithium-ion transport, providing insight into the interface design.

Abstract
Intense interest in the Li-O2 battery system over the past 5 years has led to a much better understanding of the various chemical processes involved in the functioning of this battery system. However, detailed decomposition of the nanostructured Li2O2 product, held at least partially responsible for the limited reversibility and poor rate performance, is hard to measure operando under realistic electrochemical conditions. Here, we report operando nanobeam X-ray diffraction experiments that enable monitoring of the decomposition of individual Li2O2 grains in a working Li-O2 battery. Platelet-shaped crystallites with aspect ratios between 2.2 and 5.5 decompose preferentially via the more reactive (001) facets. The slow and concurrent decomposition of individual Li2O2 crystallites indicates that the Li2O2 decomposition rate limits the charge time of these Li-O2 batteries, highlighting the importance of using redox mediators in solution to charge Li-O2 batteries.

Abstract
Flame retardancy was imparted in cellulosic cotton textile using banana pseudostem sap (BPS), an eco-friendly natural product. The extracted sap was made alkaline and applied in pre-mordanted bleached and mercerized cotton fabrics. Flame retardant properties of both the control and the treated fabrics were analysed in terms of limiting oxygen index (LOI), horizontal and vertical flammability. Fabrics treated with the non-diluted BPS were found to have good flame retardant property with LOI of 30 compared to the control fabric with LOI of 18, i.e., an increase of 1.6 times. In the vertical flammability test, the BPS treated fabric showed flame for a few seconds and then, got extinguished. In the horizontal flammability test, the treated fabric showed no flame, but was burning only with an afterglow with a propagation rate of 7.5 mm/min, which was almost 10 times lower than that noted with the control fabric. The thermal degradation and the pyrolysis of the fabric samples were studied using a thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and the chemical composition by FTIR, SEM and EDX, besides the pure BPS being characterized by EDX and mass spectroscopy. The fabric after the treatment was found to produce stable natural khaki colour, and there was no significant degradation in mechanical strengths. Based on the results, the mechanism of imparting flame retardancy to cellulosic textile and the formation of natural colour on it using the proposed BPS treatment have been postulated.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We report for the first-time detection of Plasmodium ovale in central India. METHODS From 2010, all hospitalised suspected malaria cases at the malaria clinic of the Regional Medical Research Centre for Tribals in Bastar district, central India, were screened. Plasmodium species were identified by microscopy and species-specific nested PCR of 18s rRNA. RESULTS Of 256 enrolled cases of confirmed P. falciparum malaria by microscopy, P. ovale infection was detected in three cases (1.2%) by PCR and sequencing. Of these three cases, one had cerebral malaria and another had severe malaria anaemia. In both of these cases, P. ovale infection was mixed with P. falciparum, while in third case the infection was mixed with both P. falciparum and P. vivax. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that these isolates showed closed homology with West African genotypes. CONCLUSION All three hospitalised patients were originally residents of remote inaccessible forest villages and never moved out of their residence. This finding also has implications in malaria control and elimination as P. ovale causes relapses. This study highlights the need of molecular diagnosis of malaria species for appropriate treatment and control.

Abstract
Angiogenesis is a key factor in the placentation process and vascular remodeling that involves several growth factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and angiopoietin-like protein 4 (ANGPTL4). PPARs are involved in the placentation process but not much information is available on whether their ligands such as fatty acids have any effects on these processes. We therefore investigated the effect of fatty acids (arachidonic acid, 20:4 n-6(ARA), eicosapentaenoic acid, 20:5 n-3(EPA), docosahexaenoic acid, 22:6 n-3 (DHA) and oleic acid, 18:1 n-9 (OA)) on tube formation (as a measure of angiogenesis) on matrigel in the first trimester trophoblast cells, HTR8/SVneo. In addition we also investigated the effects of fatty acids on expression of genes involved in angiogenesis (VEGF and ANGPTL4) and lipid metabolism in these cells. Gene expression was determined after incubating these cells with different fatty acids for 24 h using real-time qRT-PCR, whereas VEGF and ANGPTL4 proteins were measured by respective ELISA kits. Of all the fatty acids tested, DHA increased tube formation to the greatest extent. DHA-induced increase in tube length was 583%, 247% and 70% over control, OA and EPA, respectively (p < 0.05). In addition, DHA stimulated cell proliferation by 150% of these cells. Of all fatty acids investigated, only DHA stimulated VEGF mRNA expression and protein secretion compared with control. Unlike DHA, other fatty acids (OA, EPA, ARA) stimulated ANGPTL4 mRNA expression and protein secretion in these cells. An inhibitor of VEGF decreased DHA stimulated tube formation in these cells. Altogether these data indicate that DHA may potently influence the placentation process by stimulating tube formation and this effect may be mediated in part via VEGF in first trimester trophoblast cells.

Abstract
We study interference patterns of a magnetically doped topological insulator Bi(2-x)Fe(x)Te(3+d) by using Fourier transform scanning tunneling spectroscopy and observe several new scattering channels. A comparison with angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy allows us to unambiguously ascertain the momentum-space origin of distinct dispersing channels along high-symmetry directions and identify those originating from time-reversal symmetry breaking. Our analysis also reveals that the surface state survives far above the energy where angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy finds the onset of continuum bulk bands.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors such as tirofiban inhibit platelet aggregation. We evaluated the immediate and early outcomes in patients with high-risk non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE ACS) who received tirofiban with conventional therapy compared to patients who received only conventional therapy (a combination of aspirin, clopidogrel, low-molecular-weight heparin with or without beta-blockers and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors). METHODS A total of 165 patients received conventional therapy with a placebo, and 136 patients received conventional therapy with tirofiban after randomisation. The outcomes were measured on Day 7, Day 14, one month and three months after the administration of therapy. RESULTS A significant reduction was noted in the occurrence of primary endpoints in patients receiving tirofiban, compared to those who received a placebo at seven days (14 versus 32; p-value is 0.036), 14 days (14 versus 28; p-value is 0.043), one month (19 versus 34; p-value is 0.01) and three months (30 versus 44; p-value is less than 0.001) after administration. There was a significant reduction in the occurrence of fatal myocardial infarction (MI) (1 versus 8; p-value is 0.044) and non-fatal MI at Day 7 (1 versus 8; p-value is 0.044), and refractory ischaemia at the end of one month (14 versus 24; p-value is 0.04) and three months (25 versus 36; p-value is less than 0.01) in patients receiving tirofiban as compared to those receiving a placebo. CONCLUSION It may be concluded that tirofiban has a definite role in improving the outcome of patients with high-risk NSTE ACS.

Abstract
Underlying adenomyosis is often the cause of treatment failure for patients undergoing Mirena insertion, endometrial ablation and/or hysteroscopic resection for abnormal uterine bleeding and/or pelvic pain. In this cohort of abnormal uterine bleeding, clinicians rarely considered adenomyosis as a differential diagnosis. In such cases, gynaecologists concentrated primarily on menstrual flow. Symptoms of pelvic pain, dyspareunia, pelvic pressure symptoms and type of dysmenorrhoea were not queried. Frequently, no correlation was sought to account for a uterus noted to be enlarged either clinically or at hysteroscopy. Given the limitation of ultrasound scan (USS) in diagnosing adenomyosis, and gynaecologists' reliance on USS findings, adenomyosis often remains undiagnosed before a hysterectomy. An earlier diagnosis of adenomyosis requires a good history, correlation of clinical examination and ultrasound scan findings and a back-up MRI service. Once adenomyosis is suspected, women can be appropriately counselled so that they are fully aware of the possible failure of conservative management. If conservative management is chosen, they should be followed-up and hysterectomy offered for persistent symptoms.

BACKGROUND Müllerian duct abnormalities are important to diagnose, considering the various clinical manifestations, implications for reproductive life, different treatment options, and prognoses. However, they are often difficult to diagnose, especially by noninvasive means. Here we discuss the diagnostic difficulty incurred in a case of unicornuate uterus with functioning noncommunicating horn having a high level of cancer antigen 125 as a presenting feature. CASE Unicornuate uterus with raised serum CA125. CONCLUSIONS Mullerian duct anomaly can be a differential diagnosis in women with adnexal mass and elevated CA125.
