ChagasDB: 80 years of publicly available data on the molecular host response to Trypanosoma cruzi infection in a single database

Chagas disease is a parasitical disease caused by Trypanosoma cruzi which affects ∼7 million people worldwide. Per year, ∼10 000 people die from this pathology. Indeed, ∼30% of humans develop severe chronic forms, including cardiac, digestive or neurological disorders, for which there is still no treatment. In order to facilitate research on Chagas disease, a manual curation of all papers corresponding to 'Chagas disease' referenced on PubMed has been performed. All deregulated molecules in hosts (all mammals, humans, mice or others) following T. cruzi infection were retrieved and included in a database, named ChagasDB. A website has been developed to make this database accessible to all. In this article, we detail the construction of this database, its contents and how to use it. SyntenyViewer: a comparative genomics-driven translational research tool

SyntenyViewer is a public web-based tool relying on a relational database available at https://urgi.versailles.inrae.fr/synteny delivering comparative genomics data and associated reservoir of conserved genes between angiosperm species for both fundamental (evolutionary studies) and applied (translational research) applications. SyntenyViewer is made available for (i) providing comparative genomics data for seven major botanical families of flowering plants, (ii) delivering a robust catalog of 103 465 conserved genes between 44 species and inferred ancestral genomes, (iii) allowing us to investigate the evolutionary fate of ancestral genes and genomic regions in modern species through duplications, inversions, deletions, fusions, fissions and translocations, (iv) use as a tool to conduct translational research of key trait-related genes from model species to crops and (v) offering to host any comparative genomics data following simplified procedures and formats Database URL https://urgi.versailles.inrae.fr/synteny.

Exploring how social inequalities in health have influenced the design of Mali's SARS-CoV-2 testing policy: a qualitative study

In the fight against infectious diseases, social inequalities in health (SIH) are generally forgotten. Mali, already weakened by security and political unrest, has not been spared by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the country was unprepared, the authorities were quick to implement public health measures, including a SARS-CoV-2 testing programme. This study aimed to understand if and how social inequalities in health were addressed in the design and planning for the national COVID-19 testing policy in Mali. A qualitative survey was conducted between March and April 2021 in Bamako, the capital of Mali. A total of 26 interviews were conducted with key government actors and national and international partners. A document review of national reports and policy documents complemented this data collection. The results demonstrated that the concept of SIH was unclear to the participants and was not a priority. The authorities focused on a symptom-based testing strategy that was publicly available. Participants also mentioned some efforts to reduce inequalities across geographical territories. The reflection and consideration of SIH within COVID-19 interventions was difficult given the governance approach to response efforts. The urgency of the situation, the perceptions of COVID-19 and the country's pre-existing fragility were factors limiting this reflection. Over time, little action has been taken to adapt to the specific needs of certain groups in the Malian population. This study (re)highlights the need to consider SIH in the planning stages of a public health intervention, to adapt its implementation and to limit the negative impact on SIH.
