Study on the compounding optimization of surfactants and synergistic effects on the wettability of bituminous coal

To improve the wettability of surfactants on bituminous coal and to explore its wettability and wettability mechanism on bituminous coal, taking the Sandaogou bituminous coal as an example, a single factor experiment was carried out first. Through contact angle and surface tension experiments, three surfactants with good wettability were selected from among the nine surfactants and mixed in equal proportions two by two to determine the optimal compounding method and compounding concentration. The experimental results show that the compounding of nonionic and anionic, nonionic and zwitterionic, anionic and zwitterionic surfactants can have synergistic effects and significantly improve the wettability of bituminous coal. Among them, the 0.5 wt% SDS + 0.5 wt% CAB-50 (R2) compound surfactant had the best wettability on bituminous coal, and the contact angle and surface tension were only 15.24° and 23.62 mN/m, respectively. The surface electrostatic potential values of each material molecule were calculated by Materials Studio software based on the quantum chemistry method, and correlation analysis was carried out with wettability. The results show that the surface electrostatic potentials of CDEA, SDS and CAB-50 were greater than those of water and bituminous coal, and the region of maximum negative electrostatic potential corresponded to oxygen atoms, which are easier to adsorb on bituminous coal and water molecules. Then, through molecular dynamics simulation, the interaction energy and the distribution of contributions along the Z-axis of the water/compound surfactant/bituminous coal system at equilibrium were investigated, and finally, a spray dust reduction test was carried out in the Sandaogou Coal Mine. The results showed that the 0.5 wt% SDS + 0.5 wt% CAB-50 compound solution can be used as a water molecule adsorption carrier, prompting more water molecules to be embedded into coal molecules, increasing the relative concentration of water molecules on the surface of bituminous coal, restricting the diffusion of water molecules, and greatly improving the wettability. After the addition of 0.5 wt% SDS + 0.5 wt% CAB-50 as a spray agent, the concentration of total dust at the driver's position decreased from 65.14 to 9.11 mg/m3, the concentration of exhaled dust decreased from 30.07 to 3.35 mg/m3, and the efficiency of total and exhaled dust reduction compared with that of pure water was 86.01% and 89.35%, respectively.

Research on factors affecting the spread of dust pollution in conveyor belt workshop and research on wet dust reduction technology

At this stage, there are many dust-hazardous industries, and occupational pneumoconiosis has a high incidence for a long time. To solve the dust pollution problem in coal processing plant workshops, the dust particle field and liquid droplet particle field were numerically simulated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and the influences of the induced airflow and corridor wind speed on the internal airflow field of the workshop were investigated to derive the dust pollution mechanism in the coal plant workshop under the change in the wind flow field. In this study, it was shown that the wind flow rate in the coal processing plant workshop is mainly affected by the corridor wind speed, and the higher the corridor wind speed is, the higher the wind flow rate. The induced airflow mainly affected the direction of the wind flow field in the workshop. According to the conclusions obtained from the simulations, a spray dust reduction system was designed for the coal processing plant workshop and applied in the Huangyuchuan coal processing plant. On-site measurement revealed that the dust reduction effect inside the coal processing plant workshop is obvious, and the overall dust reduction efficiency in the workshop reaches more than 94%, which meets the requirements of environmentally sustainable development and clean production.

How to achieve carbon neutrality and low-carbon economic development-evidence from provincial data in China

"Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality" is a major strategy for China to cope with climate change at present. We define the carbon neutrality capability (CNC) to reflect the current situation of regional carbon neutrality, and propose a new coupling model to explore the coupling relationship between regional economic development and carbon neutrality capability (CNC). Finally, the influence mechanism of the energy consumption structure on CNC was further discussed by using STRIPAT model. The results show that: during we study period, the national average carbon sink was about 77.89 Mt, and the carbon sinks in Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Sichuan and Yunnan were as high as 164 Mt, mainly concentrated in the western region. The national average carbon source is 222.12 Mt, which is about three times that of carbon sink. The carbon source in Shandong, Hebei and Jiangsu are as high as 400 Mt or more, mainly concentrated in the eastern region. In addition, the growth rate of carbon source is much faster than that of carbon sink, especially the carbon emission caused by energy consumption, which leads to a general decline in CNC, and the development of CNC in various provinces is not optimistic. CNC and economic development level of most provinces are in a state of recession decoupling, and the coupling state of the provinces studied in certain years is significantly different. The spatial distribution of CNC and GDP has shown a northeast-southwest pattern. In addition, the influence of coal consumption structure on CNC is significantly negative, so we should optimize the energy consumption structure and increase the proportion of clean energy consumption. This study can make clear the current carbon neutrality capability of provinces in China, facilitate the formulation and adjustment of emission reduction strategies of provinces and cities, and help China to achieve carbon neutrality as soon as possible.

Numerical simulation of the fine kinetics of dust reduction using high-speed aerosols

A numerical model of single-particle fog-dust collision coupling in a high-speed airflow based on three-phase flow theory. The effect of the fog-to-dust particle size ratio, relative velocity between the fog and dust particles, collision angle and contact angle at the wetting humidity function of dust particles is investigated. Different particle size ratios are determined for achieving the optimal wetting humidity for the interaction of high-velocity aerosols with dust particles of different sizes, for differ, that is, kPM2.5 = 2:1, kPM10 = 3.5:1 and kPM20 = 1.5:1. The optimal humidity increases with the relative velocity U between the fog and dust particles in the high-speed airflow. The larger the collision angle is, the lower the wetting rate is.The smaller the contact angle between the solid and liquid is, the better droplet wetting on dust is. The fine kinetic mechanism of single-particle fog-dust collision-coupling in a high-speed airflow is elucidated in this study.

Ensemble inference of unobserved infections in networks using partial observations

Undetected infections fuel the dissemination of many infectious agents. However, identification of unobserved infectious individuals remains challenging due to limited observations of infections and imperfect knowledge of key transmission parameters. Here, we use an ensemble Bayesian inference method to infer unobserved infections using partial observations. The ensemble inference method can represent uncertainty in model parameters and update model states using all ensemble members collectively. We perform extensive experiments in both model-generated and real-world networks in which individuals have differential but unknown transmission rates. The ensemble method outperforms several alternative approaches for a variety of network structures and observation rates, despite that the model is mis-specified. Additionally, the computational complexity of this algorithm scales almost linearly with the number of nodes in the network and the number of observations, respectively, exhibiting the potential to apply to large-scale networks. The inference method may support decision-making under uncertainty and be adapted for use for other dynamical models in networks.

Development and internal validation of nomograms based on plasma metabolites to predict non-small cell lung cancer risk in smoking and nonsmoking populations

BACKGROUND

Lung cancer has significantly higher incidence and mortality rates worldwide. In this study, we analyzed the metabolic profiles of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients and constructed prediction models for smokers and nonsmokers with internal validation.

METHODS

Plasma was collected from all patients enrolled for metabolic profiling by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The total population was divided into two groups according to smoking or not. Statistical analysis of metabolites was performed separately for each group and prediction models were constructed.

RESULTS

A total of 1723 patients (1109 NSCLC patients and 614 healthy controls) were enrolled from the affiliated hospital during 2018 to 2021. After grouping by smoking history, each group was statistically analyzed and prediction models were constructed, which resulted in eight indicators (propionylcarnitine, arginine, citrulline, etc.) significantly associated with lung cancer risk for smokers and eight indicators (dodecanoylcarnitine, hydroxybutyrylcarnitine, asparagine, etc.) for nonsmokers (p < 0.05). The smoker model indicated an AUC of 0.860 in the training set and 0.850 in the validation set. The nonsmoker model showed an AUC of 0.783 in the training set and 0.762 in the validation set. Further calibration tests for both models indicated excellent goodness-of-fit results.

CONCLUSIONS

In this study, we found a series of metabolites significantly associated with lung cancer incidence and constructed respectively prediction models for NSCLC risk in smokers and nonsmokers, with internal validation to confirm the efficiency to discriminate lung cancer risk in both smoking and nonsmoking states.

Tetratricopeptide repeat protein SlREC2 positively regulates cold tolerance in tomato

Cold stress is a key environmental constraint that dramatically affects the growth, productivity, and quality of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum); however, the underlying molecular mechanisms of cold tolerance remain poorly understood. In this study, we identified REDUCED CHLOROPLAST COVERAGE 2 (SlREC2) encoding a tetratricopeptide repeat protein that positively regulates tomato cold tolerance. Disruption of SlREC2 largely reduced abscisic acid (ABA) levels, photoprotection, and the expression of C-REPEAT BINDING FACTOR (CBF)-pathway genes in tomato plants under cold stress. ABA deficiency in the notabilis (not) mutant, which carries a mutation in 9-CIS-EPOXYCAROTENOID DIOXYGENASE 1 (SlNCED1), strongly inhibited the cold tolerance of SlREC2-silenced plants and empty vector control plants and resulted in a similar phenotype. In addition, foliar application of ABA rescued the cold tolerance of SlREC2-silenced plants, which confirms that SlNCED1-mediated ABA accumulation is required for SlREC2-regulated cold tolerance. Strikingly, SlREC2 physically interacted with β-RING CAROTENE HYDROXYLASE 1b (SlBCH1b), a key regulatory enzyme in the xanthophyll cycle. Disruption of SlBCH1b severely impaired photoprotection, ABA accumulation, and CBF-pathway gene expression in tomato plants under cold stress. Taken together, this study reveals that SlREC2 interacts with SlBCH1b to enhance cold tolerance in tomato via integration of SlNCED1-mediated ABA accumulation, photoprotection, and the CBF-pathway, thus providing further genetic knowledge for breeding cold-resistant tomato varieties.

MicroRNA-206 suppresses growth and metastasis of breast cancer stem cells via blocking EVI-1-mediated CALR expression

Aim to investigate the effect of miR-206 on the growth and metastasis of breast cancer stem cells and clarify the precise mechanism of miR-206 on EVI-1-mediated CALR expression in driving malignant phenotype. Our results showed that miR-206 mimics suppressed CALR expression, inhibited the proliferation and metastasis ability of breast cancer stem cells and finally induced cellular apoptosis. Over-expression of CALR could effectively attenuate the cytotoxic effect of miR-206. Further studies demonstrated that EVI-1 could be served as a key regulator of miR206-mediated CALR expression. Elevation of EVI-1 can reverse the function of miR-206 on induction of CALR.

A three-dimensional evaluation model for green development: evidence from Chinese provinces along the belt and road

The establishment of the green belt and road is an inevitable choice to conform to and lead the green and low-carbon cycle development and an inherent requirement for sustainable development. Therefore, we establish an evaluation system of green development oriented to carbon neutrality, and calculate the green development level (GDL) of the provinces along the belt and road in China from 2003 to 2018 by using a three-dimensional evaluation model. In addition, this paper employs the Obstacle Degree Model to identify the main obstacle factors that affect GDL, and provides targeted and differentiated countermeasures and suggestions for improving the regional GDL. Our results suggested that the overall GDL has improved, but not obvious, with a low level. The GDL and coordination degree between different regions exist certain differences, and its spatial pattern is characterized by "high in southeast and northeast, low in southwest and northwest". From a regional perspective, innovation capacity is the key factor that affects the green development of the region in southeast, northeast, northwest and southwest China. Driving economic green transformation and promoting industrial energy conservation and emission reduction through technological innovation are the internal driving forces to achieve regional green sustainable development.

Characterization of the gut DNA and RNA Viromes in a Cohort of Chinese Residents and Visiting Pakistanis

Trillions of viruses inhabit the gastrointestinal tract. Some of them have been well-studied on their roles in infection and human health, but the majority remains unsurveyed. It has been established that the composition of the gut virome is highly variable based on the changes of diet, physical state, and environmental factors. However, the effect of host genetic factors, for example ethnic origin, on the gut virome is rarely investigated. Here, we characterized and compared the gut virome in a cohort of local Chinese residents and visiting Pakistani individuals, each group containing twenty-four healthy adults and six children. Using metagenomic shotgun sequencing and assembly of fecal samples, a huge number of viral operational taxonomic units (vOTUs) were identified for profiling the DNA and RNA viromes. National background contributed a primary variation to individuals' gut virome. Compared with the Chinese adults, the Pakistan adults showed higher macrodiversity and different compositional and functional structures in their DNA virome and lower diversity and altered composition in their RNA virome. The virome variations of Pakistan children were not only inherited from that of the adults but also tended to share similar characteristics with the Chinese cohort. We also analyzed and compared the bacterial microbiome between two cohorts and further revealed numerous connections between viruses and bacterial host. Statistically, the gut DNA and RNA viromes were covariant to some extent (P < 0.001), and they both correlated the holistic bacterial composition and vice versa. This study provides an overview of the gut viral community in Chinese and visiting Pakistanis and proposes a considerable role of ethnic origin in shaping the virome.

Chiral Mesoporous Silica Materials: A Review on Synthetic Strategies and Applications

Because of its tunable textural properties and chirality feature, chiral mesoporous silica (CMS) gained significant consideration in many fields and has been developed rapidly in recent years. In this review, we provide an overview of synthesis strategies for fabricating CMS together with its main applications. The properties of CMS, including morphology and mesostructures and enantiomer excess (ee), can be altered according to the synthetic conditions during the synthesis process. Despite its primary stage, CMS has attracted extensive attention in many fields. In particular, CMS nanoparticles are widely used for enantioselective resolution and adsorption of chiral compounds with desirable separation capability. Also, CMS acts as a promising candidate for the effective delivery of chiral or achiral drugs to produce a chiral-responsive manner. Moreover, CMS also plays an important role in chromatographic separations and asymmetric catalysis. There has been an in-depth review of the synthetic methods and mechanisms of CMS. And this review aims to give a deep insight into the synthesis and application of CMS, especially in recent years, and highlights the significance that it may have in the future.
