A Comprehensive Evaluation Algorithm of Multi-Point Relay Based on Link-State Awareness for UANETs

The Multi-Point Relay (MPR) is one of the core technologies for Optimizing Link State Routing (OLSR) protocols, offering significant advantages in reducing network overhead, enhancing throughput, maintaining network scalability, and adaptability. However, due to the restriction that only MPR nodes can forward control messages in the network, the current evaluation criteria for selecting MPR nodes are relatively limited, making it challenging to flexibly choose MPR nodes based on current link states in dynamic networks. Therefore, the selection of MPR nodes is crucial in dynamic networks. To address issues such as unstable links, poor transmission accuracy, and lack of real-time performance caused by mobility in dynamic networks, we propose a comprehensive evaluation algorithm of MPR based on link-state awareness. This algorithm defines five state evaluation parameters from the perspectives of node mobility and load. Subsequently, we use the entropy weight method to determine weight coefficients and employing the method of Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) for comprehensive evaluation to select MPR nodes. Finally, the Comprehensive Evaluation based on Link-state awareness of OLSR (CEL-OLSR) protocol is proposed, and simulated experiments are conducted using NS-3. The results indicate that, compared to PM-OLSR, ML-OLSR, LD-OLSR, and OLSR, CEL-OLSR significantly improves network performance in terms of packet delivery rate, average end-to-end delay, network throughput, and control overhead.

An Optimized Framework for WSN Routing in the Context of Industry 4.0

The advancements in Industry 4.0 have opened up new ways for the structural deployment of Smart Grids (SGs) to face the endlessly rising challenges of the 21st century. SGs for Industry 4.0 can be better managed by optimized routing techniques. In Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs), the topology is not fixed and can be encountered by interference, mobility of nodes, propagation of multi-paths, and path loss. To extenuate these concerns for SGs, in this paper, we have presented a new version of the standard Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR) protocol for SGs to improve the management of control intervals that enhance the efficiency of the standard OLSR protocol without affecting its reliability. The adapted fault tolerant approach makes the proposed protocol more reliable for industrial applications. The process of grouping of nodes supports managing the total network cost by reducing severe flooding and evaluating an optimized head of clusters. The head of the unit is nominated according to the first defined expectation factor. With a sequence of rigorous performance evaluations under simulation parameters, the simulation results show that the proposed version of OLSR has proliferated Quality of Service (QoS) metrics when it is compared against the state-of-the-art-based conventional protocols, namely, standard OLSR, DSDV, AOMDV and hybrid routing technique.

Circulating species of Leishmania at microclimate area of Boulemane Province, Morocco: impact of environmental and human factors

BACKGROUND

Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is widely distributed in Morocco where its geographical range and incidence are related to environmental factors. This study aimed to examine the impact of several factors on the distribution of CL in Boulemane Province, which is characterized by several microclimates, and to identify the Leishmania species circulating in these areas.

METHODS

Ordinary least squares regression (OLSR) analysis was performed to study the impact of poverty, vulnerability, population density, urbanization and bioclimatic factors on the distribution of CL in this province. Molecular characterization of parasites was performed using a previously described PCR-RFLP method targeting the ITS1 of ribosomal DNA of Leishmania.

RESULTS

A total of 1009 cases were declared in Boulemane Province between the years 2000 and 2015 with incidences fluctuating over the years (P = 0.007). Analyzing geographical maps of the study region identified four unique microclimate areas; sub-humid, semi-arid, arid and Saharan. The geographical distribution and molecular identification of species shows that the Saharan microclimate, characterized by the presence of Leishmania major was the most affected (47.78%) followed by semi-arid area where Leishmania tropica was identified in three districts. Among several environmental factors included in the study, poverty had the greatest influence on the spatial extension of the disease in this province.

CONCLUSIONS

The incidence of CL in Boulemane Province varies between microclimate areas, and environmental factors partly explain this variation. However, the existence of CL in the most affected districts is mainly related to poverty, population movement and human behavior. To our knowledge, this the first study utilizing molecular techniques to confirm L. tropica and L. major as the causative agents of CL in Boulemane Province. Our findings indicate that the spatial and temporal distribution of CL in Boulemane Province is strongly related to poverty and population movement.

Self-configuration and self-optimization process in heterogeneous wireless networks

Self-organization in Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN) is an emergent research area, which is becoming important due to the increasing number of nodes in a network. Consequently, the manual configuration of nodes is either impossible or highly costly. So it is desirable for the nodes to be able to configure themselves. In this paper, we propose an alternative architecture for self-organization of WMN based on Optimized Link State Routing Protocol (OLSR) and the ad hoc on demand distance vector (AODV) routing protocols as well as using the technology of software agents. We argue that the proposed self-optimization and self-configuration modules increase the throughput of network, reduces delay transmission and network load, decreases the traffic of HELLO messages according to network's scalability. By simulation analysis, we conclude that the self-optimization and self-configuration mechanisms can significantly improve the performance of OLSR and AODV protocols in comparison to the baseline protocols analyzed.
