Abstract
INTRODUCTION The role of real-time data capture (via telematics technology) is gathering prominence as a strategy to provide feedback to young drivers about important road safety issues. METHOD A naturalistic driving study was undertaken to determine whether providing personalized feedback (via a smartphone app) to young provisional drivers aged 17-20 years living in metropolitan and regional Western Australia (WA) reduced their risky driving behavior compared to a control group who did not receive feedback. Speeding over the posted speed limit, harsh decelerations (braking), harsh accelerations and overall driving performance, were recorded continuously using the smartphone app during the 11-week study. Four separate Generalised Estimating Equations (GEE) linear regression models were undertaken after accounting for relevant confounders including driving exposure to determine the difference between the intervention and control group for the 4 driving outcomes obtained from the smartphone app. RESULTS The study found that there was no significant change in overall driving scores between the intervention and control groups (p = 0.35). However, the overall driving score significantly improved by 0.19 points for young provisional drivers who lived in regional areas compared to those in the metropolitan area (p = 0.05) after adjusting for potential confounders. There was also no significant change in harsh braking scores (p = 0.46) and harsh acceleration scores between the intervention and control groups (p = 0.26) However, harsh acceleration scores improved by 0.37 points for females compared to males (p = 0.04). Lastly, there was no significant change in speed scores between the control and intervention groups (p = 0.72). However, the speed scores of participants who lived in regional WA improved by 0.22 points compared to those in the metropolitan area (p = 0.02). Furthermore, for every 1,000 km travelled, speed scores worsened by -0.08 points (p < 0.01) regardless of group. CONCLUSIONS The study did not find any statistical difference in the driving outcomes examined; however the treatment effects for feedback were consistently in the expected positive direction. Young drivers in regional WA also improved their speeding scores and overall driving performance scores compared to young drivers in the metropolitan area. Females, also significantly improved their harsh deceleration scores compared to males, regardless of group allocation. These results highlight the use of smartphone telematics as an opportunity to not only enhance the safety of provisional young drivers but also provide data-informed decision making and policy development.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Risky substance use among college students is widespread and associated with numerous negative consequences. We created an online Personalized Feedback Program (PFP) for college students that targets genetically influenced risk pathways for substance use and provides feedback on four risk domains (Sensation Seeking, Impulsivity, Extraversion, and Neuroticism) along with individualized recommendations and campus resources. METHODS A pilot randomized controlled trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of the PFP on alcohol and cannabis use. First-year college students were randomized to one of four groups: (1) control, (2) PFP, (3) computer-delivered brief motivational intervention (BMI), and (4) combined group that included both the PFP and BMI (PFP+BMI). Students completed a baseline survey (n=251) that assessed alcohol and cannabis use and program satisfaction. Two follow-up surveys were administered at 30-days and 3-months post-intervention to evaluate longitudinal effects on substance use. RESULTS Participants reported high satisfaction with the PFP. There were no significant effects of intervention group on alcohol use at the follow-up timepoints, though trends were in the expected direction with participants in the PFP group showing decreased odds of alcohol use. There were significant reductions in cannabis use in the PFP group as compared to other groups. CONCLUSIONS The PFP was met with high satisfaction and had a positive impact on reducing cannabis use. With cannabis use at a historic high among college-aged adults, further research evaluating the effects of the PFP is warranted.

Abstract
In recent years a number of studies have used objective gambling data from online gambling operators to study gambling behavior. A few of these studies have compared gamblers' actual gambling behavior (using account-based tracking data) with their subjective gambling behavior (using responses from survey data). The present study extended previous studies by comparing self-reported money deposited with the actual amount of money deposited. The authors were given access to an anonymized secondary dataset of 1,516 online gamblers from a European online gambling operator. After removing those who had not deposited any money in the previous 30 days, the final sample size for analysis was 639 online gamblers. The results indicated that gamblers were able to estimate fairly accurately how much money they had deposited in the past 30 days. However, the higher the amount of money deposited, the more likely gamblers underestimated the actual amount of money deposited. With respect to age and gender, there were no significant differences between male and female gamblers in their estimation biases. However, a significant age difference was found between those who overestimated and underestimated their deposits, with younger gamblers tending to overestimate their deposits. Providing feedback as to whether the gamblers overestimated or underestimated their deposits did not lead to any additional significant changes in the amount of money deposited when considering the overall reduction in deposits after self-assessment. The implications of the findings are discussed.

Abstract
Background Hazardous drinking and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are commonly co-occurring conditions among adults. Motivational enhancement interventions, such as personalized feedback interventions (PFI), have demonstrated efficacy for reducing hazardous drinking. Emerging though scant literature has evaluated PFI for co-occurring PTSD and hazardous alcohol use. A transdiagnostic risk factor that may underlie this co-occurrence and inform novel PFI development is anxiety sensitivity (AS). Objective To use a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy of a novel, computer-based PFI for hazardous drinkers with at least subclinical PTSD and elevated AS (AP-PFI), against a time-matched comparison condition (C-PFI). Methods Participants (N = 100) will be recruited and enrolled from the Houston, TX community. The study includes: an in-person visit (baseline diagnostic assessment, a brief intervention, and a post-intervention assessment) and two follow-up assessments (1-week and 1-month). Participants who meet study inclusion criteria will be randomized to one of two conditions at baseline: AP-PFI or C-PFI. AP-PFI will consist of a brief, single-session, computer-delivered, PFI-based intervention that provides integrative and normative feedback about alcohol use, AS, and PTSD symptoms. C-PFI will be time-matched but will only include alcohol-related feedback. Conclusions AP-PFI is designed to provide feedback about alcohol use, PTSD symptoms, and AS and their interplay and deliver psychoeducation on harm-reduction techniques, interoceptive exposure exercises, and stress management strategies. The intervention may address extant gaps in treatment for these co-occurring conditions by providing a brief, evidence-based, motivational enhancement intervention that is cost-effective with potential to be disseminated across a variety of healthcare settings.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Chronic cancer-related fatigue (CCRF) is a complex multidimensional problem warranting person-centered care. Providing patients and therapists personalized feedback based on network analysis applied to ecological momentary assessment (EMA) data could facilitate case conceptualization in psycho-oncological care. The aim was to explore patients' and therapists' experiences of using an EMA app and personalized feedback based on network theory to aid case conceptualization in psycho-oncological care. METHODS A n = 5 proof-of-concept study was implemented in routine psycho-oncological care. We purposively selected adult cancer patients suffering from severe CCRF who were on the waitlist for psycho-oncological care. During a 3-week period participants filled out the EMA app Energy InSight (fatigue, mood, activity, responding, and context) five times a day. Participants received a descriptive and network feedback report, which they reflected upon during the first therapy sessions. Thematic analysis was used to analyze user experiences. RESULTS Patients experienced that filling out the Energy InSight app, as well as receiving descriptive and network-based personalized feedback provided them with insight into their CCRF. Although therapists experienced the discussion of network feedback as challenging, it facilitated the case conceptualization. DISCUSSION Using EMA during waitlist for psychological care seemed feasible. Patients experienced beneficial effects from filling out the EMA app and talking over the personalized feedback reports, which in turn aided case conceptualization and personalized care. Based on this evaluation, an improved version of the Energy InSight app and a therapist training for providing network feedback is developed for implementation in psycho-oncological care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rates of PTSD in active-duty military are high relative to the general population. Although efficacious treatments exist, they are underutilized. Many service members with PTSD do not present for treatment and, of those who do, many do not receive sufficient doses of the interventions to receive full benefits. Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) "check-ups", are brief interventions designed to elicit treatment engagement for those who are not treatment-seeking. METHODS StressCheck is an MET for nontreatment seeking Army and Air Force personnel. StressCheck aims to improve PTSD and increase treatment engagement, especially around evidence-based interventions, as well as to decrease stigma about seeking mental health services and improve knowledge about treatment options. This paper describes the intervention components and process of treatment development. The paper also describes next steps in testing the effectiveness of the intervention. CONCLUSION PTSD is associated with deleterious health, occupational, and psychological effects. If effective, this innovative intervention will bridge the gap between those who are not treatment seeking and existing services, thereby enhancing reach and impact of existing services. Abstract
INTRODUCTION High risk sex-such as sex with multiple partners, condomless sex, or transactional or commercial sex-is a risk factor in individuals with substance use disorders (SUDs). SUD treatment can reduce sexual risk behavior, but interventions to reduce such behavior in this context have not been consistently effective. This study sought to determine if the impact of treatment on sexual risk behavior can be increased. METHODS In a nested 2 × 2 factorial repeated measures design, we examined outcomes of two interventions: training for counselors in talking to patients about sexual risk; and availability to both counselors and patients of a personalized feedback report based on patient self-report of sexual behavior. Counselors received either a brief, information-based, Basic Training, or a multi-session, skills-based Enhanced Training. Their patients completed an audio-assisted computerized assessment of sexual behavior and received either No Feedback or a Personalized Feedback Report (PFR). Four hundred seventy six patients participated. Patient follow-up occurred 3- and 6-months postbaseline. Primary patient outcome measures were Number of Unsafe Sex Occasions (USO) and whether patients reported talking about sex in counseling sessions (Discussed Sex), both in the past 90 days. Secondary outcomes included Number of Sexual Partners, Sex Under the Influence of Substances, and Perceived Condom Barriers. RESULTS Patients of Enhanced-condition counselors compared to those of Basic-condition counselors were more likely to report talking about sex with their counselor at 6-month follow-up. Personalized feedback also increased the likelihood of reporting counselor discussions at 6-month follow-up. Neither the training nor the feedback condition affected USO, Number of Partners, or Sex Under the Influence. DISCUSSION We discuss why these two interventions apparently altered counselor-patient communication about sexual risk behavior without affecting the behavior itself.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Growing up with a chronic disease comes with challenges, such as coping with fatigue. Many adolescents are severely fatigued, though its associated factors exhibit considerable interpersonal and longitudinal variation. We assessed whether PROfeel, a combination of a smartphone-based ecological momentary assessment (EMA) method using the internet, followed by a face-to-face dialogue and personalized advice for improvement of symptoms or tailor treatment based on a dynamic network analysis report, was feasible and useful. STUDY DESIGN Feasibility study in fatigued outpatient adolescents 12-18 years of age with cystic fibrosis, autoimmune disease, post-cancer treatment, or with medically unexplained fatigue. Participants were assessed at baseline to personalize EMA questions. EMA was conducted via smartphone notifications five times per day for approximately six weeks. Hereby, data was collected via the internet. The EMA results were translated into a personalized report, discussed with the participant, and subsequently translated into a personalized advice. Afterwards, semi-structured interviews on feasibility and usefulness were held. RESULTS Fifty-seven adolescents were assessed (mean age 16.2 y ± 1.6, 16% male). Adolescents deemed the smartphone-based EMA feasible, with the app being used for an average of 49 days. Forty-two percent of the notifications were answered and 85% of the participants would recommend the app to other adolescents. The personalized report was deemed useful and comprehensible and 95% recognized themselves in the personalized report, with 64% rating improved insight in their symptoms and subsequent steps towards an approach to reduce one's fatigue as good or very good. CONCLUSIONS PROfeel was found to be highly feasible and useful for fatigued adolescents with a chronic condition. This innovative method has clinical relevance through bringing a patient's daily life into the clinical conversation.

Abstract
Background Self-monitoring has been shown to improve the self-management and treatment of patients with bipolar disorder. However, current self-monitoring methods are limited to once-daily retrospectively assessed mood, which may not suit the rapid mood fluctuations in bipolar disorder. The experience sampling method (ESM), which assesses mood in real-time several times a day, may overcome these limitations. This study set out to assess the experiences of patients and clinicians with the addition of ESM monitoring, real-time alerts, and personalized feedback to clinical care. Participants were twenty patients with bipolar disorder type I/II and their clinicians. For four months, patients completed five ESM assessments per day on mood, symptoms, and activities. Weekly symptom questionnaires alerted patients and clinicians to potential episodes. After the monitoring, a personalized feedback report based on the patient’s data was discussed between patient and clinician. Three months later, patient and clinician were both interviewed. Results Thematic analysis of the transcripts resulted in four themes: perceived effects of the monitoring, alerts, and feedback, and recommendations for implementation of ESM. ESM was perceived as helping patients to cope better with their disorder by increasing awareness, offering new insights, and encouraging life style adjustments. ESM was further believed to facilitate communication between patient and clinician and to lead to new treatment directions. However, high assessment burden and pre-occupation with negative mood and having a disorder were also described. Patients and clinicians advocated for increased personalization and embedding of ESM in care. Conclusions This study demonstrates that long-term ESM monitoring, alerts, and personalized feedback are perceived as beneficial to the treatment and self-management of patients with bipolar disorder. Future research should further test the clinical utility of ESM. Clinically relevant feedback and technology need to be developed to enable personalized integration of ESM in clinical care.

Abstract
Purpose The experience sampling method (ESM) is used for intensive longitudinal time-series data collection during normal daily life. ESM data give information on momentary affect, activities and (social) context of, for example, patients suffering from mental disorders, and allows for person-specific feedback reports. However, current personalized feedback reports only display a selection of measured variables, and typically involve only summary statistics, thus not reflecting the dynamic fluctuations in affect and its influencing factors. To address this shortcoming, we developed a tool for dynamically visualizing ESM data. Methods We introduce a new framework, ESMvis, for giving descriptive feedback, focusing on direct visualization of the dynamic nature of raw data. In this ESM feedback approach, raw ESM data are visualized using R software. We applied ESMvis to data collected for over 52 weeks on a patient diagnosed with an obsessive–compulsive disorder with comorbid depression. Results We provided personalized feedback, in which both the overall trajectory and specific time moments were captured in a movie format. Two relapses during the study period could be visually determined, and subsequently confirmed by the therapist. The therapist and patient evaluated ESMvis as an insightful add-on tool to care-as-usual. Conclusion ESMvis is a showcase on providing personalized feedback by dynamic visualization of ESM time-series data. Our tool is freely available and adjustable, making it widely applicable. In addition to potential applications in clinical practice, ESMvis can work as an exploratory tool that can lead to new hypotheses and inform more complex statistical techniques. Abstract
Tailgating drinking prior to a football game is a type of event-specific drinking associated with increased alcohol use and related problems. Personalized drinking feedback interventions (PFI) are efficacious in reducing alcohol use and problems. The current study aimed to advance understanding of event-specific interventions by examining: (1) the efficacy of an event-specific, text message PFI on tailgating alcohol outcomes, and (2) the extent to which intervention effects generalize to "typical" alcohol outcomes at 1-month follow-up. College students (N = 130; 71% female; 92% white) who reported tailgating within the past 30 days and binge drinking when tailgating in the past year completed assessments on tailgating and typical alcohol use. They were randomly assigned to one of two text message conditions delivered on the morning of a home football game: event-specific PFI (TXT PFI) or a control condition. Multilevel modeling examined the association of treatment condition on tailgating and 1-month alcohol outcomes. When tailgating, participants in TXT PFI reported lower estimated peak blood alcohol concentration (eBAC) and consumed less drinks than the control condition. At the 1-month "typical" drinking follow-up, participants in TXT PFI reported lower peak eBAC and fewer alcohol-related problems than the control condition. Perceived tailgating drinking norms were found to statistically mediate the relationship between condition and alcohol outcome at tailgating and 1-month follow-ups. Findings provide preliminary support for the efficacy of an event-specific, text message PFI in reducing both tailgating and typical drinking alcohol outcomes. Event-specific TXT PFI can be used for prevention/intervention of alcohol misuse.

Abstract
A common pattern of problematic alcohol consumption among emerging adults consists of little to no drinking during the week, with heavy drinking episodes on the weekend. However, little is known about whether brief alcohol interventions exert impact on decreasing weekend drinking escalations or simply overall consumption throughout the week. A recent randomized controlled trial of heavy drinking emerging adult nonstudents (N = 164) demonstrated the efficacy of a personalized feedback intervention (PFI). Specifically, the PFI was associated with reduced overall alcohol consumption relative to assessment-only controls. However, it is not clear if patterns of weekend drinking escalation may have been disrupted by the intervention. The current study was a follow-up analysis of the parent trial. Using retrospective daily drinking data provided at each timepoint (up to 9-months), data were coded to reflect condition, time (coded to capture initial changes post-intervention as well as long-term maintenance), and day of the week (coded to capture weekend versus weekday). A multilevel negative binomial hurdle analysis was conducted, yielding two sets of results: 1) predicting the probability of a non-drinking day, and 2) predicting number of drinks consumed. Although the three-way interaction was not significant, 2 two-way interactions indicated that weekend increases in drinking were less steep over time for both groups, and less steep for PFI participants. In addition, the higher weekend likelihood of drinking was decreased over time for both groups. Steep weekend increases in drinking were disrupted over time, particularly among PFI recipients. Personalized feedback may be effective at helping nonstudent emerging adults avoid high risk drinking situations.

Abstract
This study explored participants' experiences of a novel intervention blending ecological momentary assessment and intervention (EMA/I) digital technologies with four face-to-face therapy sessions to improve coping in people who experience persisting auditory verbal hallucinations (hear voices). A smartphone app was used to deliver prompts to facilitate both self-monitoring and self-management of voices. Analysis of data recorded by the app was also used in-session to develop an idiographic formulation of antecedents of and responses to voice-hearing episodes. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 participants who completed the blended therapy. A thematic approach was used to analyse the data, generating four main themes, with associated subthemes: (1) Therapy experience changed by digital technology; (2) Valuing face-to-face component; (3) Preference for different phases of the digital technology; (4) Not as bothered by voices. Key findings revealed that participants perceived EMA/I technology as helping capture their experience more accurately and communicate this more effectively to the therapist, which, in combination with coping prompts developed in-session, deepened the therapeutic relationship. These findings add to the emerging literature that shows blended therapy can play an important role in the treatment of people with psychosis, and suggest potential of EMA/I as a technology for other clinical populations.

Abstract
Personal Feedback Interventions (PFIs) have been widely used to reduce the amount of time and money individuals spend on gambling. A central component of these interventions is personalized information about an individual's gambling behavior, often in comparison to others' gambling. The purpose of the present review and meta-analysis was to evaluate these interventions in terms of content, mode of delivery, target sample, and efficacy. Sixteen interventions from 11 studies were reviewed. We found a small, statistically significant effect in favor of PFIs versus control (d = 0.20, 95% CI 0.12, 0.27). Six moderators of intervention efficacy were explored. These interventions appeared to be most efficacious when used in populations of greater gambling severity, when individuals were provided with gambling-related educational information, and when used in conjunction with motivational interviewing. Factors associated with reduced efficacy include in-person delivery of feedback without motivational-interviewing and informing participants of their score on a psychological measure of gambling severity. Efficacy did not vary as a function of college or community samples. PFIs are a low cost, easily disseminated intervention that can be used as a harm-reduction strategy. However, more substantial effects may be attained if used as part of a larger course of therapy.

Abstract
Deviance Regulation Theory (DRT) proposes that individuals regulate their behavior to be in line with the behaviors of others. Specifically, individuals desire to stand out in positive way and not stand out in a negative way. DRT has been successfully applied to encourage other health behaviors and offers a unique method to utilize both injunctive norms in combination with descriptive norms in brief alcohol interventions. This randomized controlled trial evaluated a computer-delivered, norms-based personalized feedback intervention which systematically varied the focus on whether specific drinking behaviors were described as common or uncommon (a descriptive norm), whether the drinking behaviors were healthy versus unhealthy, and whether the drinking behaviors were positively or negatively framed (an injunctive norm). Nine-hundred and fifty-nine college drinkers completed baseline, three-month, and six-month follow-up assessments. Results indicated messages focusing on unhealthy drinking behaviors, particularly when described as uncommon, were most effective in reducing drinking and alcohol-related problems over time. This research utilizes deviance regulation theory as a way of improving personalized normative feedback by elucidating how to construct messages for brief interventions based on descriptive characteristics associated with specific target drinking behaviors in combination with perceptions of prevalence and acceptability of such drinking behaviors (an injunctive norm).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Marijuana use is common among U.S. college students. Liberalization of marijuana use policies is hypothesized to decrease social norms discouraging use, which protects against marijuana use. This may increase the importance of protective behavioral strategies (PBS) to reduce marijuana use harm. METHODS This study tested direct and moderated (by sex) program effects of an adapted version of the Marijuana eCHECKUPTO GO, a web-based marijuana use intervention providing university-specific personalized feedback (PF) with normative information and PBS to students attending a university in a state with legalized adult recreational marijuana. Participants were 298 heavy-using college students randomly assigned to receive Marijuana eCHECKUPTO GO or strategies for healthy stress management (HSM). General linear models (GLMs) tested direct program effects on proximal intervention targets, marijuana use, and use consequences. Multi-group GLMs then tested the moderating effect of sex on direct intervention effects. RESULTS Marijuana eCHECKUPTO GO participants reported decreases in estimated use prevalence (i.e., descriptive norms), self-reported hours high per week, days high per week, periods high per week, and weeks high per month. Sex moderated intervention effects on the use of PBS such that females in the PF condition increased their use of PBS more than males. CONCLUSION Results demonstrate preliminary support for the adapted Marijuana eCHECKUPTO GO in reducing marijuana use for "heavy college-aged users". Future research should test adapted Marijuana eCHECKUPTO GO sustained effects over time, and examine whether program effects on harm reduction manifest after sustained (e.g., booster) program implementation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Many intervention efforts targeting student drinking were developed to address US college students, which usually involves underage drinking. It remains unclear, if research evidence from these interventions is generalizable to university and college students of legal drinking age, e.g., in Europe. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effectiveness of a translated and adapted version of the eCHECKUP TO GO, applied as stand-alone web-based electronic screening and brief intervention (e-SBI), in German university students at risk for hazardous drinking. METHODS A fully automated web-based two-arm parallel-group randomized controlled trial was conducted. Participants were randomized to an e-SBI or assessment-only (AO) condition. The current paper analyzed students with baseline AUDIT-C scores ≥3 for women and ≥4 for men (sample at baseline: e-SBI [n=514], AO [n=467]; 3-month follow-up: e-SBI [n=194], AO [n=231]; 6-month follow-up: e-SBI [n=146], AO [n=200]). The primary outcome was prior four weeks' alcohol consumption. Secondary outcomes were frequency of heavy drinking occasions, peak blood alcohol concentration, and number of alcohol-related problems. RESULTS Mixed linear model analyses revealed significant interaction effects between groups and time points on the primary outcome after 3 and 6months. Compared to students in the AO condition, students in the e-SBI condition reported consuming 4.11 fewer standard drinks during the previous four weeks after 3months, and 4.78 fewer standard drinks after 6months. Mixed results were found on secondary outcomes. CONCLUSIONS The results indicate that evidence on and knowledge of web-based e-SBIs based on US college student samples is transferable to German university students of legal drinking age. However, knowledge of what motivates students to complete programs under voluntary conditions, although rare, is needed.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study investigated change processes resulting from a randomized controlled trial smartphone-delivered maintenance intervention with daily electronic diaries and personalized written feedback based on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) following a rehabilitation program for patients with chronic widespread pain. METHOD This study included 48 women who during a 5-week period completed electronic diaries three times daily, totaling 3372 entries. In response to the completed diaries, they received daily feedback from a therapist for 4 weeks (excluding weekends), totaling 799 feedback messages. To analyze the change processes, we explored the associations between feedback and daily ratings of participants' physical activities, positive emotions, pain fear and avoidance, pain acceptance, and self-management. Commitment to physical activities and the participants' evaluation of feedback were also analyzed. Multilevel models were used in the statistical analyses. RESULTS Participants' average pain fear and avoidance decreased over the intervention period (mean -0.019, P = 0.05). Self-management, pain acceptance, and positive feelings increased (mean -0.030, P < 0.01; mean -0.015, P < 0.01; and mean -0.011, P = 0.01, respectively). Participants' performance of physical activities decreased slightly over time, but the level of commitment was high and they evaluated the feedback as supportive for staying sufficiently active. No correlation between diary contents and feedback messages was found, even though most of the participants evaluated the feedback as supportive. CONCLUSION No support was found for an association between diary content and feedback based on ACT. However, diary measures were consistent with the ACT model and may have influenced positively the change processes.

Abstract
Normative (NF) and personalized feedback (PF) are moderately effective brief interventions for at-risk drinking middle-aged and older adults. This study tested the feasibility of online feedback for drinkers 50 and older. This study's aims were to identify whether there is differential effectiveness of PF over NF in prompting drinkers 50years old and older to plan for change and to determine potential preferences for intervention among adult drinkers 50 and older with practical knowledge about computers. METHOD Using Amazon's Mechanical Turk, 138 male and female drinkers aged 50 to 75+ were recruited to complete an online survey that asked about their: perceptions of their drinking, quantity and frequency of drinking, and any comorbid health and/or mental health disorders/medications. They were then provided either NF or PF. NF provided information about how participants' drinking compared to their same age and gendered peers. PF provided information about level of risk to health and provided recommendations for safe levels of drinking. After feedback, participants were evaluated for their reactions (e.g., "How much does this worry you?") and their plan to change their drinking. Participants were asked about preferences for interventions. RESULTS 80% of participants rated themselves a no or low-risk drinker, yet 52.2% were found to be at-risk drinkers. Overall, participants reported feedback was helpful, and 43.9% made some kind of plan to change. Participants in NF were significantly more likely to make a plan for change than those in PF. Participants reported that they most preferred an online (40.9%) or a brief in-person (31.8%) intervention. CONCLUSION Findings revealed that brief online feedback was feasible, though limited to those who are computer knowledgeable. Unexpectedly, NF outperformed PF, suggesting that peer comparisons may be more motivating for adults 50 and older than previously thought. Finally, an online intervention appears to be a preferred intervention for alcohol use among this particular group of drinkers.

Abstract
The eCHECKUP TO GO is identified as a highly effective, low-cost individually-focused alcohol intervention by the NIAAA CollegeAIM guide. The research on the eCHECKUP TO GO for High School is less consistent, suggesting that the program content, originally designed for college students, may need modification for this age group. This randomized controlled study examined the effectiveness of the eCHECKUP TO GO for High School on shifting risk and protective factors for alcohol use targeted by the program at a 4-6week follow-up. Female high school students in the intervention group reported a reduction in perceptions of peer drinking, beliefs about alcohol, and positive alcohol expectancies, compared to students in the control group. There were no group differences in risk factors for males or in protective behavioral strategies for either males or females. Results indicate the eCHECKUP TO GO for High School may be more effective for females and that program content targeting protective behavioral strategies may need modification for this age group.

Abstract
Motives for alcohol use are associated with distinct antecedents and consequences. Drinking alcohol to cope with negative affect is consistently associated with the most problematic patterns of use. Interventions targeting drinking to cope are needed. This randomized controlled treatment trial is an initial attempt to evaluate the impact of a brief coping motive-specific personalized feedback intervention on motives and problematic outcomes associated with drinking. The study randomized 170 participants to receive either a brief Standard Feedback Condition (SFC; n=83) or a Motives Feedback Condition (MFC; n=87) that added education and feedback on drinking to cope as well as alternative coping strategies. Significant reductions in drinking to cope with anxiety and with depression were greater in the MFC at the 2-month follow-up. Significant reductions in drinking and negative consequences were observed but did not differ significantly by condition. Indirect tests showed that the MFC, relative to SFC, was associated with outcomes of drinking and negative consequences through change in drinking to cope with depression. Moderation analyses revealed that there were no differential outcomes according to baseline level of coping. This study is a promising new direction in motives research, providing support for brief personalized feedback interventions incorporating motives-related feedback.

Abstract
Alcohol use increases substantially during the transition from middle school to high school. This study tested a brief, web-based personalized feedback program aimed at reducing risk factors for drinking, alcohol use, and alcohol-related consequences among 9th grade students. At a 3-month follow-up, students in the intervention group showed positive results relative to those in the control group on variables associated with reduced risk, including positive alcohol expectancies and positive beliefs about alcohol. Students in the intervention group also reported a reduction in drinking frequency and alcohol-related consequences relative to those in the control group. There were, however, no differences in normative beliefs regarding peer drinking or quantity of weekly drinking between the two groups. Results indicate that a brief, web-based personalized normative feedback program delivered in the school setting is a promising approach to reducing alcohol use and the associated consequences among 9th grade students.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Although research utilizing the Internet to intervene with college student drinkers is growing, this study is the first to investigate the use of a theoretically-based and empirically supported personalized feedback form delivered via a single e-mail to college students. METHOD Students (n=191) completed measures of their alcohol use, related consequences, and peer perceptions at baseline and 6weeks after the intervention. Students were randomly assigned to receive either e-mailed personalized feedback or e-mailed generic feedback. RESULTS Students who received e-mailed personalized feedback reported consuming significantly fewer drinks in a given week, as well as a fewer number of days being drunk in the previous 30days. They also exhibited a significant reduction in the number of days they perceived their peers to have drunk alcohol and in the amount of alcohol they perceived their peers to consume per drinking occasion. CONCLUSION e-Mailed personalized feedback appears to help students become more aware of normative drinking behavior and reduce the quantity of alcohol they consume. Furthermore, e-mailed personalized feedback may be a cost-effective manner in which to intervene with college student drinkers.

Abstract
Research on the efficacy of computer-delivered feedback-only interventions (FOIs) for college alcohol misuse has been mixed. Limitations to these FOIs include participant engagement and variation in the use of a moderation skills component. The current investigation sought to address these limitations using a novel computer-delivered FOI, the Drinkers Assessment and Feedback Tool for College Students (DrAFT-CS). Heavy drinking college students (N=176) were randomly assigned to DrAFT-CS, DrAFT-CS plus moderation skills (DrAFT-CS+), moderation skills only (MSO), or assessment only (AO) group, and were assessed at 1-month follow-up (N=157). Participants in the DrAFT-CS and DrAFT-CS+groups reported significantly lower estimated blood alcohol concentrations (eBACs) on typical heaviest drinking day than participants in the AO group. The data also supported the incorporation of a moderation skills component within FOIs, such that participants in DrAFT-CS+group reported significantly fewer drinks per week and drinks per heaviest drinking occasion than participants in the AO group.
