Optimizing Multiple Entropy Thresholding by the Chaotic Combination Strategy Sparrow Search Algorithm for Aggregate Image Segmentation

Aggregate measurement and analysis are critical for civil engineering. Multiple entropy thresholding (MET) is inefficient, and the accuracy of related optimization strategies is unsatisfactory, which results in the segmented aggregate images lacking many surface roughness and aggregate edge features. Thus, this research proposes an autonomous segmentation model (i.e., PERSSA-MET) that optimizes MET based on the chaotic combination strategy sparrow search algorithm (SSA). First, aiming at the characteristics of the many extreme values of an aggregate image, a novel expansion parameter and range-control elite mutation strategies were studied and combined with piecewise mapping, named PERSSA, to improve the SSA's accuracy. This was compared with seven optimization algorithms using benchmark function experiments and a Wilcoxon rank-sum test, and the PERSSA's superiority was proved with the tests. Then, PERSSA was utilized to swiftly determine MET thresholds, and the METs were the Renyi entropy, symmetric cross entropy, and Kapur entropy. In the segmentation experiments of the aggregate images, it was proven that PERSSA-MET effectively segmented more details. Compared with SSA-MET, it achieved 28.90%, 12.55%, and 6.00% improvements in the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), the structural similarity (SSIM), and the feature similarity (FSIM). Finally, a new parameter, overall merit weight proportion (OMWP), is suggested to calculate this segmentation method's superiority over all other algorithms. The results show that PERSSA-Renyi entropy outperforms well, and it can effectively keep the aggregate surface texture features and attain a balance between accuracy and speed.

A Novel Virtual Optical Image Encryption Scheme Created by Combining Chaotic S-Box with Double Random Phase Encoding

The double random phase encoding (DRPE) system plays a significant role in encrypted systems. However, it is a linear system that leads to security holes in encrypted systems. To tackle this issue, this paper proposes a novel optical image encryption scheme that combines a chaotic S-box, DRPE, and an improved Arnold transformation (IAT). In particular, the encryption scheme designs a chaotic S-box to substitute an image. The chaotic S-box has the characteristics of high nonlinearity and low differential uniformity and is then introduced to enhance the security of the DRPE system. Chaotic S-boxes are resistant to algebraic attacks. An IAT is used to scramble an image encoded by the DRPE system. Meanwhile, three chaotic sequences are obtained by a nonlinear chaotic map in the proposed encryption scheme. One of them is used for XOR operation, and the other two chaotic sequences are explored to generate two random masks in the DRPE system. Simulation results and performance analysis show that the proposed encryption scheme is efficient and secure.

CM-CPPA: Chaotic Map-Based Conditional Privacy-Preserving Authentication Scheme in 5G-Enabled Vehicular Networks

The security and privacy concerns in vehicular communication are often faced with schemes depending on either elliptic curve (EC) or bilinear pair (BP) cryptographies. However, the operations used by BP and EC are time-consuming and more complicated. None of the previous studies fittingly tackled the efficient performance of signing messages and verifying signatures. Therefore, a chaotic map-based conditional privacy-preserving authentication (CM-CPPA) scheme is proposed to provide communication security in 5G-enabled vehicular networks in this paper. The proposed CM-CPPA scheme employs a Chebyshev polynomial mapping operation and a hash function based on a chaotic map to sign and verify messages. Furthermore, by using the AVISPA simulator for security analysis, the results of the proposed CM-CPPA scheme are good and safe against general attacks. Since EC and BP operations do not employ the proposed CM-CPPA scheme, their performance evaluation in terms of overhead such as computation and communication outperforms other most recent related schemes. Ultimately, the proposed CM-CPPA scheme decreases the overhead of computation of verifying the signatures and signing the messages by 24.2% and 62.52%, respectively. Whilst, the proposed CM-CPPA scheme decreases the overhead of communication of the format tuple by 57.69%.

An Image Encryption Algorithm Using Logistic Map with Plaintext-Related Parameter Values

This paper deals with a plaintext-related image encryption algorithm that modifies the parameter values used by the logistic map according to plain image pixel intensities. The parameter values are altered in a row-wise manner, which enables the usage of the same procedure also during the decryption. Furthermore, the parameter modification technique takes into account knowledge about the logistic map, its fixed points and possible periodic cycles. Since the resulting interval of parameter values achieves high positive values of Lyapunov exponents, the chaotic behavior of the logistic map should be most pronounced. These assumptions are verified by a set of experiments and the obtained numerical values are compared with those reported in relevant papers. It is found that the proposed design that uses a simpler, but well-studied, chaotic map with mitigated issues obtains results comparable with algorithms that use more complex chaotic systems. Moreover, the proposed solution is much faster than other approaches with a similar purpose.

Non-Linear Hopped Chaos Parameters-Based Image Encryption Algorithm Using Histogram Equalization

Multimedia wireless communications have rapidly developed over the years. Accordingly, an increasing demand for more secured media transmission is required to protect multimedia contents. Image encryption schemes have been proposed over the years, but the most secure and reliable schemes are those based on chaotic maps, due to the intrinsic features in such kinds of multimedia contents regarding the pixels’ high correlation and data handling capabilities. The novel proposed encryption algorithm introduced in this article is based on a 3D hopping chaotic map instead of fixed chaotic logistic maps. The non-linearity behavior of the proposed algorithm, in terms of both position permutation and value transformation, results in a more secured encryption algorithm due to its non-convergence, non-periodicity, and sensitivity to the applied initial conditions. Several statistical and analytical tests such as entropy, correlation, key sensitivity, key space, peak signal-to-noise ratio, noise attacks, number of pixels changing rate (NPCR), unified average change intensity randomness (UACI), and others tests were applied to measure the strength of the proposed encryption scheme. The obtained results prove that the proposed scheme is very robust against different cryptography attacks compared to similar encryption schemes.

Cryptanalysis and Improvement of a Chaotic Map-Based Image Encryption System Using Both Plaintext Related Permutation and Diffusion

In theory, high key and high plaintext sensitivities are a must for a cryptosystem to resist the chosen/known plaintext and the differential attacks. High plaintext sensitivity can be achieved by ensuring that each encrypted result is plaintext-dependent. In this work, we make detailed cryptanalysis on a published chaotic map-based image encryption system, where the encryption process is plaintext Image dependent. We show that some designing flaws make the published cryptosystem vulnerable to chosen-plaintext attack, and we then proposed an enhanced algorithm to overcome those flaws.

Chaotic Map with No Fixed Points: Entropy, Implementation and Control

A map without equilibrium has been proposed and studied in this paper. The proposed map has no fixed point and exhibits chaos. We have investigated its dynamics and shown its chaotic behavior using tools such as return map, bifurcation diagram and Lyapunov exponents’ diagram. Entropy of this new map has been calculated. Using an open micro-controller platform, the map is implemented, and experimental observation is presented. In addition, two control schemes have been proposed to stabilize and synchronize the chaotic map.

Three Techniques for Enhancing Chaos-Based Joint Compression and Encryption Schemes

In this work, three techniques for enhancing various chaos-based joint compression and encryption (JCAE) schemes are proposed. They respectively improved the execution time, compression ratio, and estimation accuracy of three different chaos-based JCAE schemes. The first uses auxiliary data structures to significantly accelerate an existing chaos-based JCAE scheme. The second solves the problem of huge multidimensional lookup table overheads by sieving out a small number of important sub-tables. The third increases the accuracy of frequency distribution estimations, used for compressing streaming data, by weighting symbols in the plaintext stream according to their positions in the stream. Finally, two modified JCAE schemes leveraging the above three techniques are obtained, one applicable to static files and the other working for streaming data. Experimental results show that the proposed schemes do run faster and generate smaller files than existing JCAE schemes, which verified the effectiveness of the three newly proposed techniques.

An Image Encryption Algorithm Based on Time-Delay and Random Insertion

An image encryption algorithm is presented in this paper based on a chaotic map. Different from traditional methods based on the permutation-diffusion structure, the keystream here depends on both secret keys and the pre-processed image. In particular, in the permutation stage, a middle parameter is designed to revise the outputs of the chaotic map, yielding a temporal delay phenomena. Then, diffusion operation is applied after a group of random numbers is inserted into the permuted image. Therefore, the gray distribution can be changed and is different from that of the plain-image. This insertion acts as a one-time pad. Moreover, the keystream for the diffusion operation is designed to be influenced by secret keys assigned in the permutation stage. As a result, the two stages are mixed together to strengthen entirety. Experimental tests also suggest that our algorithm, permutation– insertion–diffusion (PID), performs better when expecting secure communications for images.

Correcting Errors in Image Encryption Based on DNA Coding

As a primary method, image encryption is widely used to protect the security of image information. In recent years, image encryption pays attention to the combination with DNA computing. In this work, we propose a novel method to correct errors in image encryption, which results from the uncertainty of DNA computing. DNA coding is the key step for DNA computing that could decrease the similarity of DNA sequences in DNA computing as well as correct errors from the process of image encryption and decryption. The experimental results show our method could be used to correct errors in image encryption based on DNA coding.

Robustification of a One-Dimensional Generic Sigmoidal Chaotic Map with Application of True Random Bit Generation

The search for generation approaches to robust chaos has received considerable attention due to potential applications in cryptography or secure communications. This paper is of interest regarding a 1-D sigmoidal chaotic map, which has never been distinctly investigated. This paper introduces a generic form of the sigmoidal chaotic map with three terms, i.e., x_n+1 = ∓Af_NL(Bx_n) ± Cx_n ± D, where A, B, C, and D are real constants. The unification of modified sigmoid and hyperbolic tangent (tanh) functions reveals the existence of a “unified sigmoidal chaotic map” generically fulfilling the three terms, with robust chaos partially appearing in some parameter ranges. A simplified generic form, i.e., x_n+1 = ∓f_NL(Bx_n) ± Cx_n, through various S-shaped functions, has recently led to the possibility of linearization using (i) hardtanh and (ii) signum functions. This study finds a linearized sigmoidal chaotic map that potentially offers robust chaos over an entire range of parameters. Chaos dynamics are described in terms of chaotic waveforms, histogram, cobweb plots, fixed point, Jacobian, and a bifurcation structure diagram based on Lyapunov exponents. As a practical example, a true random bit generator using the linearized sigmoidal chaotic map is demonstrated. The resulting output is evaluated using the NIST SP800-22 test suite and TestU01.
