Abstract
The anatomical position of the nasopalatine canal in the anterior maxilla makes it one of the most important vital structures in the region. Surgical and implant procedures in this area require local anesthesia to be administered. It is, therefore, important to morphologically assess the length and shape of the nasopalatine canal for performing surgical procedures with more accuracy in this area. Cone-Beam Computed tomography scans were scrutinized using inclusion criteria of age 18 years and above, absence of any pathological lesions/fracture/surgery in the nasopalatine area, absence of orthodontic treatment or maxillary jaw correction surgeries, and exclusion criteria including CBCT scans with artifacts or error s in the area of interest, anterior implants, absence of bone diseases, trauma, surgeries, and impactions in the area of interest. A total of 360 scans were analyzed for the length and shape of the nasopalatine canals. The results of the study showed that the mean nasopalatine canal length was 12.51 mm. The hourglass shape of the canal was most common and had the highest representation in both genders, with male 80.62% and female 87.01%. A statistically significant difference (p < 0.001) was noted in nasopalatine canal length between males and females. The study provides insight into the significant association of gender with the canal's shape and length of the canal. The length of the canal does not influence with age. These parameters are helpful for surgical planning and interventions in the anterior maxillary region.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE By minimizing imaging artifact and particle scatter, carbon fiber-reinforced polyetheretherketone (CF-PEEK) spinal implants are hypothesized to enhance radiotherapy (RT) planning/dosing and improve oncological outcomes. However, robust clinical studies comparing tumor surgery outcomes between CF-PEEK and traditional metallic implants are lacking. In this paper, the authors performed a systematic review of the literature with the aim to describe clinical outcomes in patients with spine tumors who received CF-PEEK implants, focusing on implant-related complications and oncological outcomes. METHODS A systematic review of the literature published between database inception and May 2022 was performed in accordance with the 2020 Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. The PubMed database was queried using the terms "carbon fiber" and "spine" or "spinal." The inclusion criteria were articles that described patients with CF-PEEK pedicle screw fixation and had a minimum of 5 patients. Case reports and phantom studies were excluded. RESULTS This review included 11 articles with 326 patients (237 with CF-PEEK-based implants and 89 with titanium-based implants). The mean follow-up period was 13.5 months, and most tumors were metastatic (67.1%). The rates of implant-related complications in the CF-PEEK and titanium groups were 7.8% and 4.7%, respectively. The rate of pedicle screw fracture was 1.7% in the CF-PEEK group and 2.4% in the titanium group. The rates of reoperation were 5.7% (with 60.0% because of implant failure or junctional kyphosis) and 4.8% (all because of implant failure or junctional kyphosis) in the CF-PEEK and titanium groups, respectively. When reported, 72.5% of patients received postoperative RT (41.0% stereotactic body RT, 30.8% fractionated RT, 25.6% proton, 2.6% carbon ion). Four articles suggested that implant artifact was reduced in the CF-PEEK group. Local recurrence occurred in 14.4% of CF-PEEK and 10.7% of titanium-implanted patients. CONCLUSIONS While CF-PEEK harbors similar implant failure rates to traditional metallic implants with reduced imaging artifact, it remains unclear whether CF-PEEK implants improve oncological outcomes. This study highlights the need for prospective, direct comparative clinical studies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Twelve percent of the U.S. population has a dental implant. Although rare, implant loss/complications can impact quality of life. This study evaluated indicators for implant loss/complications. METHODS Veterans with dental implants placed between 2015 and 2019 were included. Implant loss/complications were defined as implant removal or peri-implant defect treatment within 90 days. Binomial logistic regression identified factors associated with implant loss/complications. RESULTS From 2015 to 2019, 48,811 dental implants were placed in 38,246 Veterans. Implant loss/complications was identified for 202 (0.4%) implants. In adjusted analyses, Veterans aged 50-64 years (OR = 1.92 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.06, 3.46)) and ≥65 (OR = 2.01 (95% CI: 1.14, 3.53)) were more likely to have implant loss/complications. History of oral infection, tooth location, and number of implants placed all significantly increased the odds of loss/complications. CONCLUSION Dental implant loss/complications are rare outcomes. Older age, location of implant, and the number of implants placed during a visit were significant predictors of loss/complication.

Abstract
Introduction As dental implants become more widely used, there is a need to raise awareness about their potential complications. Professionals in the dental and medical fields must take responsibility for educating the public, and future professionals in these fields will play a key role in this effort. Methodology Dental and medical students were polled through online questionnaire, with questions posed in multiple-choice format, to gauge their knowledge of dental implants. Result When medical students were compared with dental students, it concluded that the dental students have more knowledge about implants and its complication. Conclusion The statistical analysis revealed that the knowledge about basics of implantology and implant complications was good amongst dental students than medical students which was statistically significant.

Abstract
Every year more and more innovative pharmacological agents are introduced medicine, to treat systemic diseases. Due to these rapid and recent advancements, many patients are receiving treatment with a high variety of drugs, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, bisphosphonates, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α inhibitors, cyclosporine, and steroids. Since implant and osseous surgery are common treatment modalities used, within dentistry, it is of critical important to acknowledge and discuss the potential effects of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, bisphosphonates, TNF-α inhibitors, cyclosporine, and steroids, on bone healing. The present paper discusses the possible detrimental ramifications and risks these drug classes may have on bone healing.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for adult spinal deformity (ASD) can offer deformity correction with less tissue manipulation and damage. However, the impact of obesity on clinical outcomes and radiographic correction following MIS for ASD is poorly understood. The goal of this study was to determine the role, if any, that obesity has on radiographic correction and health-related quality-of-life measures in MIS for ASD. METHODS Data were collected from a multicenter database of MIS for ASD. This was a retrospective review of a prospectively collected database. Patient inclusion criteria were age ≥ 18 years and coronal Cobb angle ≥ 20°, pelvic incidence-lumbar lordosis mismatch ≥ 10°, or sagittal vertical axis (SVA) > 5 cm. A group of patients with body mass index (BMI) < 30 kg/m2 was the control cohort; BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2 was used to define obesity. Obesity cohorts were categorized into BMI 30-34.99 and BMI ≥ 35. All patients had at least 1 year of follow-up. Preoperative and postoperative health-related quality-of-life measures and radiographic parameters, as well as complications, were compared via statistical analysis. RESULTS A total of 106 patients were available for analysis (69 control, 17 in the BMI 30-34.99 group, and 20 in the BMI ≥ 35 group). The average BMI was 25.24 kg/m2 for the control group versus 32.46 kg/m2 (p < 0.001) and 39.5 kg/m2 (p < 0.001) for the obese groups. Preoperatively, the BMI 30-34.99 group had significantly more prior spine surgery (70.6% vs 42%, p = 0.04) and worse preoperative numeric rating scale leg scores (7.71 vs 5.08, p = 0.001). Postoperatively, the BMI 30-34.99 cohort had worse Oswestry Disability Index scores (33.86 vs 23.55, p = 0.028), greater improvement in numeric rating scale leg scores (-4.88 vs -2.71, p = 0.012), and worse SVA (51.34 vs 26.98, p = 0.042) at 1 year postoperatively. Preoperatively, the BMI ≥ 35 cohort had significantly worse frailty (4.5 vs 3.27, p = 0.001), Oswestry Disability Index scores (52.9 vs 44.83, p = 0.017), and T1 pelvic angle (26.82 vs 20.71, p = 0.038). Postoperatively, after controlling for differences in frailty, the BMI ≥ 35 cohort had significantly less improvement in their Scoliosis Research Society-22 outcomes questionnaire scores (0.603 vs 1.05, p = 0.025), higher SVA (64.71 vs 25.33, p = 0.015) and T1 pelvic angle (22.76 vs 15.48, p = 0.029), and less change in maximum Cobb angle (-3.93 vs -10.71, p = 0.034) at 1 year. The BMI 30-34.99 cohort had significantly more infections (11.8% vs 0%, p = 0.004). The BMI ≥ 35 cohort had significantly more implant complications (30% vs 11.8%, p = 0.014) and revision surgery within 90 days (5% vs 1.4%, p = 0.034). CONCLUSIONS Obese patients who undergo MIS for ASD have less correction of their deformity, worse quality-of-life outcomes, more implant complications and infections, and an increased rate of revision surgery compared with their nonobese counterparts, although both groups benefit from surgery. Appropriate counseling should be provided to obese patients.

Abstract
Implant dental therapy is a clinical procedure used for treating patients with tooth loss with known clinical success. This clinical study aimed to evaluate the long-term clinical outcomes of dental implants in partially and totally edentulous patients. A total of 544 Microdent (Microdent SU, Implant Microdent System®, Santa Eulàlia de Ronçana Barcelona, Spain) screw implants were placed in 111 patients using a two-stage surgical technique and a conventional loading protocol (lasting 3 months). Implant and prosthetic clinical findings were evaluated during a 15-year follow-up. A total of 6 implants were lost during the healing period, and 124 prostheses were placed over the 538 implants that remained: 20 single crowns, 52 partially fixed bridges, 45 full-arch fixed restorations, and 7 overdentures. A total of 20 of these were lost during the follow-up period. The cumulative survival rate for all implants was 96.4%. The data underwent statistical analysis (significance level: p < 0.05). The mean marginal bone loss was 1.82 ± 0.54 mm, ranging from 1.2 to 3.1 mm. The most frequent complications were mechanical prosthodontic complications (16.2%). In all, 11.8% of implants showed periimplantitis as the primary biological complication. Dental implants inserted in both the maxillary and mandibular areas produce long-term favorable outcomes and stable tissue conditions when a delayed loading protocol is followed.

Abstract
AIM To identify the factors associated with buccal peri-implant soft tissue dehiscences (BSTDs) and their frequency of occurrence. MATERIALS AND METHODS Randomized controlled trials, controlled clinical trials, cohort studies, and case series assessing the frequency of occurrence of BSTD were included. BSTD was defined as an apical migration of the peri-implant soft tissues of ≥1 mm from the baseline examination (final restoration) or in comparison with the adjacent or contralateral natural tooth. Frequency distributions of BSTD related to the presence or absence of any surgical, prosthetic, or anatomic factor that may have contributed to the development of BSTD were recorded. Random-effects meta-analyses using odds ratios (OR) were performed to investigate the association of certain factors with the development of BSTD. RESULTS Twenty-four articles were finally included belonging to 22 clinical investigations. Patients at higher risk of developing BSTD were associated with thin biotype (OR = 2.85 [1.40, 5.8], n = 5, p = .003) and with buccally placed implants (OR = 14.37 [4.58, 45.14], n = 3, p ≤ .001). Patients without connective tissue grafting (CTG) had greater odds of developing BSTD (OR = 9.00 [3.11, 26.02], n = 5, p ≤ .001), while buccal bone plate thickness of <1 mm and immediately placed implants were not associated with greater BSTD (OR = 1.29 [0.35, 4.77], n = 2, p = .704 and OR = 1.56 [0.46, 5.26], n = 4, p = .477, respectively). The frequency of occurrence of BSTD varied across the included studies with a range from 0% to 61%. CONCLUSIONS Thin tissue biotype and buccally placed implants were associated with BSTD, whereas CTG seemed to have a protective effect. Thin buccal plates and immediately placed implants did not demonstrate a higher risk of BSTD.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Zolpidem has gained popularity as a pharmaceutical therapy for insomnia, being the most prescribed hypnotic in the United States today. However, it is associated with increased mortality and morbidity. Literature regarding zolpidem use in the total knee arthroplasty (TKA) population is limited. The aim of the study was to analyze postoperative zolpidem use in the TKA population regarding medical and implant complications, falls, and readmission. METHODS The study group was queried according to zolpidem use. Controls consisted of patients who underwent primary TKA without a history of hypnotic drug use. Study group patients were matched to controls in a 1:5 ratio by demographics and comorbidities. Results yielded 99,178 study participants and 495,795 controls. Primary endpoints included 90-day medical and implant complications, fall risk, and readmission. Chi-squared test was used to compare categorical variables. Multivariate logistic regression was used to calculate odds (OR) for complications, fall risk, and readmission. A P value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS Study group patients had increased odds of medical complications (OR: 1.76, 95% CI: 1.71-1.82, P < .0001) and implant complications (OR: 1.35, 95% CI: 1.23-1.47, P < .0001) compared to controls. Furthermore, patients in the study group were found to have an increased risk of 90- day falls (OR: 1.16, 95% CI: 1.11-1.21, P < .0001). Readmission was similar to controls (5.10% vs 4.84%, P = .12). CONCLUSION Zolpidem use following primary TKA is associated with the risk of morbidity and falls. The findings are consistent with the literature regarding zolpidem. These findings may affect discussion between orthopedic surgeons and patients in the decision-making process prior to undergoing TKA.

Abstract
Introduction One of the key stages of evaluating an edentulous ridge prior to dental implant placement is the analysis of neighboring anatomical structures such as canalis sinuosus (CS) with cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). CBCT visualization has its own features, such as the change of slice thickness. The aim of the study was to analyze CS prevalence in relation to the slice thickness and CS diameter according to CBCT scans. Materials and Methods In total, 100 CBCT scans of 39 males and 61 females in the age span of 46 to 81 years were retrospectively studied. Terminal alveolar part of CS was analyzed in Ez3D2009 (Vatech) software on panoramic and cross-sectional views with 0.5 mm, 1 mm, 3 mm, and 10 mm slice thicknesses. The prevalence was documented with regard to the diameter and slice thickness and was statistically compared in age and gender groups. Results This CBCT study demonstrated 55.5% CS prevalence. There was no statistically significant difference in presence between age and gender groups regarding diameter as well as within different slice thickness. The study also showed the importance of the slice thickness choice for CS visualization: the best visualization was reached with 0.5 mm and 1 mm slice thicknesses. Visualization with 0.5 mm and 1 mm slice thicknesses was absolutely the same (55.5%). General CS prevalence with a 10 mm slice thickness (16.5%) was significantly lower (P < 0.05) than the prevalence with a 3 mm slice thickness (20.5%). The correlation between the slice thickness and a diameter more than 1.5 mm in size was not found. Conclusion CBCT analysis showed that the highest CS prevalence was detected with the use of 0.5/1 mm slice thickness. As well, the higher CS diameter, the better is its visualization.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients who are partially dentate or edentulous can receive both conventional and implantsupported fixed prostheses, which leads to improvement in function, esthetics and self-esteem. Currently, implant dentistry is one of the fastest-growing disciplines in dentistry. OBJECTIVES The aim of the study was to assess the education and training of dentists practicing implant therapy in the Riyadh region of Saudi Arabia, including their preferred dental implant systems, the clinical complications experienced as well as the barriers to implant therapy they encounter. MATERIAL AND METHODS A self-administered questionnaire was distributed among dentists in Riyadh performing dental implants in both the state and private sectors. The questionnaire included demographic data, such as nationality, the practitioner's affiliated specialist category and their respective qualifications. Other data included their main sources of education pertaining to implant dentistry, the most commonly used implant systems, common clinical complications, and barriers to implant therapy. A descriptive statistical analysis of the data was carried out. RESULTS A significant majority of non-Saudi dental practitioners were employed in the private sector (p = 0.001), whereas a significant majority of Saudi dental practitioners were employed in the state sector (p = 0.001). The largest group of practitioners performing implants were general dentists (48.1%). The 3iTM implant system was the most widely utilized (35.4%). Failed osseointegration (12.6%) and peri-implantitis (12%) were the most common clinical complications. The biggest barrier to placing implants was the cost of implants to patients (59.1%). CONCLUSIONS Fundamental to implant practice is the clinical practitioner and patient selection. The utilization of implant systems should preferably be based on the chemical properties of implant surfaces which promote early osseointegration. Comparative studies investigating the reasons for failed osseointegration and other clinical complications are needed locally and internationally. Further research, together with advanced clinical specialist training, can lead to improvement in the quality of implant therapy for the benefit of patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE To report the rate of technical complications and prosthesis survival in a cohort of edentulous patients treated with implant-supported fixed complete dental prostheses (IFCDPs) after a mean observation period of at least 1 year. MATERIALS AND METHODS The single-visit examination included clinical and radiographic assessment, occlusal analysis, photographs and questionnaire assessing patient satisfaction in a cohort of 52 patients rehabilitated with 71 IFCDPs (supported by 457 implants). The IFCDPs were assessed for technical complications, number of implants and cantilever extension, retention type and prosthetic material type. Comparison was made between ceramic IFCDPs (Group 1) and metal-resin IFCDPs (Group 2). Kaplan-Meier survival curve analysis was carried out for assessment of prosthesis survival and was done for both Groups 1 and 2 separately. The Cox proportional hazard model was used for survival analysis, adjusting for a number of potential confounders, to evaluate the association between prosthesis survival and several risk factors such as type of opposing occlusion, nightguard use, and presence of bruxism. Responses to patient satisfaction questions were compared with Fisher's exact test. RESULTS Out of 71 edentulous arches (52 patients) restored with IFCDPs, 6 IFCDPs had failed, yielding a cumulative prosthesis survival rate of 91.6 % after a mean observation period of 5.2 years (range: 1-12 years) after definitive prosthesis insertion. Three IFCDPs were lost due to implant failures after 5.8 to 11 years of functional loading. Additionally, 3 metal-resin IFCDPs failed due to technical complications. Minor complications were the most frequent complications observed, namely wear of the prosthetic material (9.8% annual rate) being the most common, followed by decementation of cement-retained IFCDPs (2.9%), and loss of the screw access filing material of the screw-retained IFCDPs (2.7%). The most frequently observed major complication was fracture of the prosthetic material (1.9% annual rate), followed by fracture of occlusal screw (0.3%), and fracture of framework (0.3%). The annual rate of wear of prosthetic material was 7.3% for porcelain IFCDPs (n = 19/55) and 19.4% for metal-resin IFCDPs (n = 13/16), yielding a statistically significant difference between the 2 groups (p = 0.01). CONCLUSIONS After a mean exposure time of 5.2 years, 91.6% prosthesis survival rates were achieved (65 out of 71 IFCDPs). The most frequent minor technical complication was wear of the prosthetic material with estimated 5-year rate of 49.0%, while the most frequent major complication was fracture of the prosthetic material with estimated 5-year dental unit-based rate of 9.5%. The cumulative rates for "prosthesis free of minor complications" at 5- and 10-years were 60.5% (95% CI: 47.2-71.3%) and 8.9% (95% CI: 2.9-18.0%), respectively. The cumulative rates for "prosthesis free of major technical complications" at 5- and 10-years were 85.5% (95% CI: 73.0-92.5%) and 30.1% (95% CI: 12.0-50.6%), respectively. Presence of bruxism, and absence of a nightguard were associated with increased risk for chipping of the prosthetic material of the IFCDPs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Common three-dimensional (3D)-printed anatomic templates have generally been used to reconstruct the pelvis after zone II and III borderline pelvic tumor resection. However, gradual increases in postoperative implant complications and the tumor recurrence rate have been observed. This study aimed to introduce the innovative application of a modified 3D-printed anatomic template with a customized cutting block for pelvic reconstruction and to comparatively analyze the common and modified 3D-printed anatomic templates. METHODS A total of 38 patients were included in this study and were allocated to 2 groups (19 patients/group). Group A received innovative therapy, and Group B received traditional therapy. All patients were questioned in detail about age, location, and duration of the mass and associated symptoms, and routine blood tests, such as serological tests, were administered. RESULTS We found that the modified 3D-printed anatomic template with a customized cutting block resulted in a shorter operating time, smaller bleeding loss, and simpler operation than the common 3D-printed anatomic template. Additionally, the tumor recurrence rate was lower and the accuracy of tumor resection was much greater for the modified 3D-printed anatomic template with a customized cutting block. However, compared with the traditional therapy, the innovative therapy had a significantly higher rate of implant loosening. CONCLUSION The innovative therapy can increase surgical safety and reduce recurrence after tumor resection relative to the traditional therapy. Additionally, the innovative therapy reconstructs the pelvis of zone III to improve the quality of patient life. However, the innovative therapy with implant loosening should be improved.

Abstract
PURPOSE To retrospectively assess complications and clinical and radiographic outcomes of edentulous patients treated with double full-arch implant-supported fixed complete dental prostheses (IFCDPs) after a mean observation period of 5.1 years. MATERIALS AND METHODS The single-visit clinical and radiographic examination included medical and dental history review and clinical assessment of biologic and technical complications encountered with all implants and IFCDPs. Life table analysis and Kaplan-Meier survival curves were calculated. Analysis was conducted to evaluate the association between prosthesis survival and several risk factors such as type of opposing occlusion, nightguard use, and presence of bruxism. RESULTS Nineteen edentulous patients restored with 38 IFCDPs were included. A total of 249 implants were placed and 2 implants failed after a mean observation period of 5.1 years (range: 1-12 years), yielding an overall implant survival rate of 99.2% and prosthesis survival rate of 92.1%. Three out of 38 IFCDPs were lost, 1 after implant losses and 2 due to technical complications. The most frequent minor biologic complication was soft tissue recession with an estimated 5-year rate of 45.5% (95% CI: 39.4-57.5), while the most frequent major complication was peri-implantitis with an estimated 5-year implant-based rate of 9.5% (95% CI: 6.7-11.3). The most frequent minor technical complication was wear of the prosthetic material with an estimated 5-year rate of 49.0% (95% CI: 37.4-76.4), while the most frequent major technical complication was fracture of the prosthetic material with an estimated 5-year dental unit-based rate of 8.0% (95% CI: 6.6-10.1). CONCLUSIONS After a mean use time of 5.1 years, high implant and prosthesis survival rates were observed. The most frequent major biologic complication was peri-implantitis, and the most frequent major technical complication was fracture of the prosthetic material. The 5-year estimated cumulative rates for "prosthesis free of biologic complications" was 50.7% (95% CI: 33.7-65.4) and for "prosthesis free of technical complications" was 57.1% (95% CI: 39.3-71.5).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hypersensitivity to metals as a cause of implant-related complications has been a subject of controversy. Projections indicate an increase in the frequency of joint replacements of between 300% and 600% by the year 2030; therefore, this issue is of considerable interest. OBJECTIVE To evaluate sensitization to implant materials in patients with implant-related complications, to identify allergens, and to clarify whether hypersensitivity is a relevant cause. METHODS Patients with implant-related complications or a positive history of contact allergy and planned total joint replacements referred for allergological investigation between 2004 and 2017 were retrospectively analysed. RESULTS In total, 311 patients were included. A positive patch test reaction to a metal was seen in 64.4% of preoperative patients and in 54.6% of patients with implant-related complications. Common alloy metals such as cobalt, chromium and titanium gave positive reactions in up to 2.9% of patients with implant-related complications. None of the patients with skin changes had a positive patch test reaction to an implant metal. CONCLUSION Other factors, such as the type of replaced joint and mechanical stress, seem to be more relevant for implant-related complications. Sensitization to metals or other materials seems to rarely play a role, and is overestimated.

Abstract
AIM To present recent data regarding prosthetic complications with implant prostheses and crowns as well as compare this data with data presented in a 2003 publication. MATERIAL AND METHODS An electronic Medline (PubMed) with MeSH terms search was performed, focussing on clinical studies that reported data on prosthetic complications associated with implant fixed complete dentures, implant overdentures, implant fixed partial dentures, and implant single crowns. RESULTS There were nine prosthetic complications reported with implant fixed complete dentures, 17 with implant overdentures, four with implant fixed partial dentures, and six with implant single crowns. The greatest number of complications and the largest incidence of percentages occurred with implant overdentures. The lowest incidence percentages were recorded for implant single crowns. These findings are in agreement with the previous 2003 publication. It is of interest to note that some of the complications reported previously were not reported in this review, and some complications reported in this review were not listed in the 2003 publication, thereby limiting the number of direct comparisons between this paper and the earlier report. A surprising finding was that some complications associated with implant overdentures from the current data exceeded the incidence in 2003 (reactivation of the retentive attachment; mucosal hyperplasia; and the need for overdenture relines). CONCLUSIONS Implant overdentures are associated with more complications than implant fixed complete dentures, implant fixed partial dentures, and implant single crowns. The lowest incidence of complications was reported with implant single crowns. The most common complication reported with implant fixed complete dentures was denture tooth fracture. The most common complication associated with implant overdentures was the need for adjustments. Porcelain veneer fracture/chipping was the most common complication identified in the studies of implant fixed partial dentures. The most common complication reported with implant single crowns was abutment screw loosening.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the survival and the incidence of biologic and technical complications of implant-supported single crowns after 5 years of function. MATERIAL AND METHODS Patients treated with dental implants at the National Dental Centre, Singapore, from 2006 to 2010 were recruited from the Implant Registry and evaluated by two clinicians. One hundred and ninety-four patients, with 266 implant single crowns (SCs), were examined clinically for biologic and technical parameters. Digital radiographs were also obtained. Failure and complication rates were calculated based on the person-time at risk. RESULTS The mean biologic time in function was 5.9 ± 1.3 years. None of the implants had been lost, resulting in a 5-year survival of 100%. The corresponding success (complication-free) rate was 92.9% (95% CI: 89.2, 95.4). The mean prosthetic time in function was 5.2 ± 1.5 years, with a 5-year survival of implant-supported SCs of 98.2% (95% CI: 95.8, 99.3). The corresponding success rate was 88.9% (95% CI: 84.8, 92.0). The 5-year incidence of biologic complications, defined as PPD ≥6 mm with bleeding on probing/suppuration, in the presence of ≥2.5 mm of radiographic bone loss, was 7.1% (95% CI: 4.6, 10.9). The 5-year incidence of technical complications was 6.5% (95% CI: 3.9, 10.7) for fracture of the veneering material, 4.3% (95% CI: 2.4, 7.7) for loss of retention, 2.1% (95% CI: 1.0, 4.7) for abutment screw loosening and 0.4% (95% CI: 0.1, 2.5) for abutment fracture. CONCLUSIONS High survival rates (98.4%) for both the single tooth implants and the respective single crowns were demonstrated after 5.2 ± 1.5 years. However, the success rates were considerably lower (84.9%), indicating that biologic and technical complications were frequent.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate retrospectively biologic and technical complications as well as clinical and radiographic outcomes of patients treated with 4 implants according to the All-on-4 protocol and followed up to 7 years of function. Data from 56 consecutive patients presenting complete edentulous jaw, aged 18 years or older, treated between January 2008 and December 2013, were evaluated. The outcomes were implant and prosthetic survival and success rates, any complications, and marginal bone loss (MBL). Two-hundred twenty-four implants were placed in 56 patients. During the entire follow-up, 1 maxillary implant but no prosthesis failed during the healing process. Fourteen patients experienced 1 complication each (10 technical, 4 biologic). The overall implant and prosthetic success rate was 98.2% and 82.1%, respectively. All complications were considered as minor and successfully resolved chairside. A mean MBL of 1.30 ± 0.63 mm was observed at the last follow-up. Statistically significant difference was found for postextractive implants (0.79 ± 0.26) vs implants placed in healed sites (1.03 ± 0.46; P = 0.024). Within the limits of the present study, the All-on-4 concept may be a valuable surgical and prosthetic option for the treatment of complete edentulous jaws. However, minor technical and biologic complications can occur. Further long-term prospective data with primary outcomes focused on success rates are needed.
