Abstract
Corneal topography allows the assessment of the cornea's refractive power which is crucial for diagnostics and surgical planning. The use of optical coherence tomography (OCT) for corneal topography is still limited. One limitation is the susceptibility to disturbances like blinking of the eye. This can result in partially corrupted scans that cannot be evaluated using common methods. We present a new scanning method for reliable corneal topography from partial scans. Based on the golden angle, the method features a balanced scan point distribution which refines over measurement time and remains balanced when part of the scan is removed. The performance of the method is assessed numerically and by measurements of test surfaces. The results confirm that the method enables numerically well-conditioned and reliable corneal topography from partially corrupted scans and reduces the need for repeated measurements in case of abrupt disturbances.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to verify whether soft contact lenses (SCL) can have a clinically significant impact on refraction before LASIK. METHODS Retrospective analysis of 113 eyes for which the refraction was measured initially and after discontinuing soft contact lenses for at least 7 days. Both spherical and cylindrical measurements were performed. In addition, the difference between postoperative refraction and the target refraction for these eyes was calculated for both spherical and cylindrical refraction. RESULTS In 8 % (18 %) of the eyes, the spherical or cylindrical refraction changed by 0.5 dioptre or more after a week of not wearing soft contact lenses. Total spherical refraction changed by an average of 0.15 dioptre (p = 0.58) and cylindrical refraction by 0.18 dioptre (p = 0.006). After LASIK, the difference between postoperative and target refraction was significantly different for both spherical refraction (0.3 dioptre) and for cylindrical refraction (0.21 dioptre). DISCUSSION The differences in the measurements during this study suggest that a modern soft contact lenses should still be discontinued before LASIK. The optimal duration of the discontinuation remains to be determined.

Abstract
Facial muscles are skeletal muscles that control facial expression. Sekulic-Jablanovic et al. characterize orbicularis oculi and extraocular muscles and find divergence in the expression of key molecules for muscle function between facial, extraocular, and quadriceps muscles. The orbicularis oculi are the sphincter muscles of the eyelids and are involved in modulating facial expression. They differ from both limb and extraocular muscles (EOMs) in their histology and biochemistry. Weakness of the orbicularis oculi muscles is a feature of neuromuscular disorders affecting the neuromuscular junction, and weakness of facial muscles and ptosis have also been described in patients with mutations in the ryanodine receptor gene. Here, we investigate human orbicularis oculi muscles and find that they are functionally more similar to quadriceps than to EOMs in terms of excitation–contraction coupling components. In particular, they do not express the cardiac isoform of the dihydropyridine receptor, which we find to be highly expressed in EOMs where it is likely responsible for the large depolarization-induced calcium influx. We further show that human orbicularis oculi and EOMs express high levels of utrophin and low levels of dystrophin, whereas quadriceps express dystrophin and low levels of utrophin. The results of this study highlight the notion that myotubes obtained by explanting satellite cells from different muscles are not functionally identical and retain the physiological characteristics of their muscle of origin. Furthermore, our results indicate that sparing of facial and EOMs in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy is the result of the higher levels of utrophin expression.

Abstract
CONTEXT Chemical eye injuries are ophthalmological emergencies with a high risk of secondary complications and severe visual loss. Only limited epidemiological data for such injuries are available for many countries. PATIENTS AND METHODS We performed two independent studies. The cause of chemical eye injuries was assessed with a prospective questionnaire study. Questionnaires were sent to all ophthalmologists in Switzerland. A total of 163 patients (205 eyes) were included, between December 2012 and October 2014. Independent of the questionnaire study, the incidence of chemical eye injuries was assessed with a retrospective cohort study design using the database of the mandatory accident insurance. RESULTS Ophthalmological questionnaires revealed that plaster/cement (20.5%), alkaline (12.2%) and acid (10.2%) solutions caused the highest number of chemical injuries. Only 2% of all injuries were classified as grade III and none as grade IV (Roper-Hall classification). The official toxicological information phone-hotline was contacted in 4.3% of cases. Using data from the accident insurance, an incidence of chemical eye injuries of about 50/100 000/year was found in the working population. CONCLUSION Here, we present data on the involved agents of chemical eye injuries in Switzerland, and also the incidence of such injuries in the working population. This may also help to assess the need for further education programs and to improve and direct preventive measures.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To compare the effect of bimatoprost and the fixed combination latanoprost-timolol (LTFC) on 24-hour systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) blood pressure and on 24-hour ocular perfusion pressure (OPP). METHODS 200 patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension, controlled on the unfixed combination of latanoprost and timolol or eligible for dual therapy being not being fully controlled on monotherapy were enrolled in a randomized, double-masked, placebo-controlled, multicentre clinical trial. They were randomized to LTFC (8 a.m.) or bimatoprost (8 p.m.) and received 24-hour IOP curve at baseline, 6 and 12 weeks (supine and sitting position IOPs were recorded at 8 p.m., midnight, 5 a.m., 8a.m., noon and 4 p.m.). Holter 24-hour blood pressure curve was obtained between weeks 2 and 12. SBP, DBP, OPP were calculated and compared with ANOVA. Rates of diastolic OPP (DPP)≤50, ≤40, ≤30 mmHg in the 2 groups were calculated and compared using Fisher's test. RESULTS Mean baseline SBP and DBP were 136.5±18.3 vs 134.2±20.1 mmHg (p=0.1) and 79.1±10.2 vs 78.2±10.1 mmHg (p=0.4) in the bimatoprost and LTFC groups respectively. Holter SBP was significantly higher for bimatoprost (135.1 mmHg vs 128.1 mmHg, p=0.04), while no statistically significant difference in DBP was found. DPP was similar in the 2 groups, and proportions of patients with at least one value of the 24-hour curve≤50, ≤40, ≤30 mmHg were 94%, 86%, 41% respectively. CONCLUSIONS Bimatoprost and LTFC had similar DBPs and OPPs; SBP was significantly lower with LTFC. In this study, the percentage of "dippers" was considerably higher than the one described in previous studies on the role of perfusion pressure in glaucoma. Abstract
AIM Preparation of the lamina during osteo-odonto-keratoprosthesis (OOKP) design is complex, and its longevity and watertightness important. To date, only acrylic bone cements have been used for bonding the optical cylinder to the tooth dentine. Our aim was to evaluate different dental adhesives for OOKP preparation. METHODS Specimens of bovine teeth were produced by preparing 1.5-mm thick dentine slices with holes having a diameter of 3.5 mm. Each group (n=10 per group) was luted with either classic poly-(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) bone cement, universal resin cement or glass ionomer cement. All specimens underwent force measurement using a uniaxial traction machine. RESULTS The highest mean force required to break the bond was measured for PMMA bone cement (128.2 N) followed by universal resin cement (127.9 N), with no statistically significant difference. Glass ionomer cement showed significantly lower force resistance (78.1 N). CONCLUSIONS Excellent bonding strength combined with easy application was found for universal resin cement, and thus, it is a potential alternative to acrylic bone cement in OOKP preparation.
