Abstract
Plasmodium falciparum malaria parasite had developed resistance to almost all the currently used antimalarial drugs. The purpose of the study was to come across the genetic distances in P. falciparum dhps gene sequences circulating in Assam. A partial fragment of P. falciparum dhps gene containing major single nucleotide polymorphisms associated with sulphadoxine resistance were amplified and sequenced. Thereafter specific bioinformatics tools like BioEdit v7.0.9, ClustalW in Mega 5, DnaSP version v.5.10.01 etc were used for the analysis. A total of 100 P. falciparum positive cases in different malaria endemic areas of Assam were included for the study. Based upon the mutation analysis, a total of seven different P. falciparum dhps genotypes were observed with five variable sites. Maximum five haplotypes were found in the P. falciparum isolates from Jorhat district of Assam. Four polymorphic sites were observed in the P. falciparum dhps gene sequences in Karbi Anglong, NC Hills, Chirang and Jorhat whereas the isolates from other study areas had three polymorphic sites. A statistically significant positive value of Tajima's D were observed among the P. falciparum field isolates in Assam indicating that there is an excess of intermediate frequency alleles and can result from population bottlenecks, structure and/or balancing selection. Extensive gene flow took place among the P. falciparum population of Jorhat with Sivasagar, Chirang with Sivasagar and Chirang with Karbi Anglong. However, large genetic differentiation was observed among the P. falciparum isolates of NC Hills with Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Golaghat and also the parasite population of Karbi Anglong with Lakhimpur and Tinsukia signifying little gene flow among the population. This finding has shown that mutant Pfdhps gene associated with sulphadoxine resistance is circulating in Assam. It is believed that, the parasite population may have undergone high level of breeding.

Molecular determination of antifolate resistance associated point mutations in Plasmodium falciparum dihydrofolate reductase (dhfr) and dihydropteroate synthetase (dhps) genes among the field samples in Arunachal Pradesh. Abstract
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Antimalarial resistance in P. falciparum malaria parasite creates a serious obstacle in malaria control programme. Keeping this in mind, in the present study antifolate resistance associated point mutations in P. falciparum dihydrofolate reductase (Pfdhfr) and dihydropteroate synthetase (Pfdhps) genes among the field samples in Arunachal Pradesh were determined. METHODS Blood samples were collected from 145 suspected malaria patients/healthy control subjects in malarious areas of Lohit and Changlang districts of Arunachal Pradesh, India during January 2012 to December 2013. RESULTS In microscopic slide examination, 51.03% (74/145) were found malaria positive. Plasmodium falciparum mono-infection was observed in 62.16% (46/74) of total malaria positive cases. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was employed in all the P. falciparum positive samples for detection of 648 bp of Pfdhfr and 710 bp of Pfdhps genes. All the amplified products were analysed for detection of single nucleotide polymorphisms in dhfr and dhps genes. A total of four different genotypes of Pfdhfr gene were observed, of which double mutant allele ANRNI was mostly prevalent and it was found in 65.22% (30/46) cases. Likewise, four different haplotypes of Pfdhps gene were detected, of which triple mutant allele AGEAA shares 69.57% (32/46) followed by other haplotypes. In Pfdhfr-Pfdhps two locus mutations analysis, two isolates in Changlang district had shown quintuple mutant haplotype AIRNL-AGEAA, likely to be associated with treatment failure. The P. falciparum two locus dhfr-dhps haplotype (ANRNI-AGEAA) was observed in 56.52% (26/46) cases. INTERPRETATION & CONCLUSION Overall, high grade of sulphadoxine-pyrimethamine resistance associated genetic polymorphisms were observed among the P. falciparum parasite population in Arunachal Pradesh during the study period.

Abstract
The measurement of primary [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] production at mid-rapidity ([Formula: see text] 0.5) in proton-proton collisions at [Formula: see text][Formula: see text] 7 TeV performed with a large ion collider experiment at the large hadron collider (LHC) is reported. Particle identification is performed using the specific ionisation energy-loss and time-of-flight information, the ring-imaging Cherenkov technique and the kink-topology identification of weak decays of charged kaons. Transverse momentum spectra are measured from 0.1 up to 3 GeV/[Formula: see text] for pions, from 0.2 up to 6 GeV/[Formula: see text] for kaons and from 0.3 up to 6 GeV/[Formula: see text] for protons. The measured spectra and particle ratios are compared with quantum chromodynamics-inspired models, tuned to reproduce also the earlier measurements performed at the LHC. Furthermore, the integrated particle yields and ratios as well as the average transverse momenta are compared with results at lower collision energies.

Abstract
Sodium nitroprusside (SNP) is an antihypertensive drug with proven toxic effects attributed mainly to the production of nitric oxide (NO). Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are widely regarded as functional foods and have been shown to ameliorate the harmful effects of many toxicants. This study examined whether feeding of fish oil (FO)/flaxseed oil (FXO) would have any protective effect against SNP-induced hepatotoxicity and cell death. Male Wistar rats were fed either on normal diet or with 15% FO/FXO for 15 days, following which SNP (1.5 mg/kg body weight) was administered intraperitoneally for 7 days. Animals were killed after treatment, and livers were collected for further analysis. We observed that SNP significantly elevated tissue nitrite levels and lipid peroxidation (LPO) with concomitant perturbation in antioxidant defense systems accompanied with dysregulated glucose metabolism and pronounced cellular death. FO/FXO supplementation to SNP-treated rats caused reversal of tissue injury/cell death and markedly decreased LPO and improved antioxidant defense systems. FO/FXO appear to protect against SNP-induced hepatotoxicity by improving energy metabolism and antioxidant defense mechanism.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Data on patients with localized Ewing sarcoma family of tumors (ESFT) who have received a uniform chemotherapy protocol are minimal. METHODS This is a single institutional review of patients with ESFT treated between June 2003 and November 2011. RESULTS 224/374 (60%) patients with ESFT presented with localized disease; median age was 15 years (range: 0.1-55). Ninety-nine patients underwent surgery of which 50 received adjuvant radiotherapy; 80 patients received radical radiotherapy following neoadjuvant chemotherapy. At median follow-up of 40.2 months (range: 1.3-129), 5-year EFS, OS, and local-control-rate, were 36.8 ± 3.6%, 52.4 ± 4.3%, and 63 ± 4.3%, respectively. In multivariate analysis, tumor diameter > 8 cm (P = 0.03), symptom duration > 4 months (P = 0.04), and WBC > 11 × 10(9) /L (P = 0.003) predicted inferior EFS; spine/abdomino-pelvic primary (P = 0.009) and WBC > 11 × 10(9) /L (P = 0.003) predicted inferior OS. Tumor size > 8 cm (P = 0.03) and radical radiotherapy as local treatment (P = 0.01) predicted inferior local-control-rate. CONCLUSION Prognostic hazard models for EFS and OS based on significant prognostic factors suggested that patients with combination of ESFT of spine/abdomino-pelvic region and baseline WBC > 11 × 10(9) /L had inferior OS (hazard ratio 4.44, P < 0.001) while patients with combination of ESFT with symptom duration > 4 months, tumor diameter > 8 m and baseline WBC > 11 × 10(9) /L had inferior EFS (hazard ratio 3.89, P = 0.002).

Exclusive J/ψ photoproduction off protons in ultraperipheral p-Pb collisions at √(s(NN))=5.02 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2014; 113:232504. Abstract
We present the first measurement at the LHC of exclusive J/ψ photoproduction off protons, in ultraperipheral proton-lead collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. Events are selected with a dimuon pair produced either in the rapidity interval, in the laboratory frame, 2.5<y<4 (p-Pb) or -3.6<y<-2.6 (Pb-p), and no other particles observed in the ALICE acceptance. The measured cross sections σ(γ+p→J/ψ+p) are 33.2±2.2(stat)±3.2(syst)±0.7(theor) nb in p-Pb and 284±36(stat)_{-32}^{+27}(syst)±26(theor) nb in Pb-p collisions. We measure this process up to about 700 GeV in the γp center of mass, which is a factor of two larger than the highest energy studied at HERA. The data are consistent with a power law dependence of the J/ψ photoproduction cross section in γp energies from about 20 to 700 GeV, or equivalently, from Bjorken x scaling variable between ∼2×10^{-2} and ∼2×10^{-5}, thus indicating no significant change in the gluon density behavior of the proton between HERA and LHC energies.

Abstract
The p_{T}-differential production cross sections of the prompt charmed mesons D^{0}, D^{+}, D^{*+}, and D_{s}^{+} and their charge conjugate in the rapidity interval -0.96<y_{cms}<0.04 were measured in p-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The nuclear modification factor R_{pPb}, quantifying the D-meson yield in p-Pb collisions relative to the yield in pp collisions scaled by the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions, is compatible within the 15%-20% uncertainties with unity in the transverse momentum interval 1<p_{T}<24 GeV/c. No significant difference among the R_{pPb} of the four D-meson species is observed. The results are described within uncertainties by theoretical calculations that include initial-state effects. The measurement adds experimental evidence that the modification of the momentum spectrum of D mesons observed in Pb-Pb collisions with respect to pp collisions is due to strong final-state effects induced by hot partonic matter.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Resistance against partner drugs of artemisinin has been reported from different parts of India. The study aims to find out the single nucleotide polymorphisms in Plasmodium falciparum ATPase6 gene associated with artemisinin resistance. METHODS Blood samples were collected from 141 patients with P. falciparum monoinfection in malaria endemic zones of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. A 645 bp portion of PfATPase6 gene was amplified and sequenced to determine the frequency of mutations associated with resistance to artemisinin. RESULTS Mutations at codon S769N, which have been proposed to confer artemisinin resistance, were not detected in our study samples. Instead of that a novel non-synonymous mutation (C-T) at 1847 bp position resulting in serine to phenylalanine alteration at codon S616F was detected from the P. falciparum field isolates in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, whereas no mutation was detected in any of the analyzed samples in Assam indicating that wild type PfATPase6 genotype was found circulating in this region. Overall, based on the mutational pattern, two haplotypes of PfATPase6 gene were observed during the study, the wild type and mutant S616F allele. The overall haplotype diversity (Hd) was found to be: 0.069 and nucleotide diversity (per site Pi): 0.00012. Highest haplotype diversity was recorded in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh having Hd value of 0.33333 along with single polymorphic site and nucleotide diversity (Pi): 0.00060. A pair-wise fixation index (FST) value of 0.16667 indicates great genetic differentiation within the parasite population of Changlang district with the population of Karbi Anglong, Chirang, Tinsukia, Sivasagar, Jorhat, NC Hills, Lakhimpur, Golaghat and Dibrugarh districts of Assam and Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh. INTERPRETATION & CONCLUSION A better understanding of the distribution of antimalarial drug resistance with malaria parasite may provide insight into some of the epidemiological determinants of the increasing case burden.

Abstract
Zinc nanoparticles (NPs) embedded in silica were irradiated with swift heavy ions (SHIs) of seven different combinations of species and energies. The shape elongation induced by the irradiations was evaluated by optical linear dichroism (OLD) spectroscopy, which is a sensitive tool for determining the change in the mean aspect ratio (AR) of NPs. Although the mean AR change indicated a linear fluence dependence in the low- and medium-fluence regions, it indicated a nonlinear dependence in the high-fluence region. The data reveal that the elongation efficiency of Zn is correlated with the electronic stopping power 'Se in silica' and is not correlated with either the 'Se in Zn' or the nuclear stopping power. The elongation efficiency plotted as a function of the 'Se in silica' revealed a linear relationship, with a threshold value of ∼2 keV nm(-1), which is the same dependence exhibited by the ion-track formation in silica. The log-log plot showed that the elongation efficiency increased linearly with Se above a critical value of ∼3 keV nm(-1) and steeply decreased with Se to the power of 5 below the critical Se. The steep decrease can be ascribed to the discontinuous nature of the ion tracks, which is expected at Se ∼ 2-4 keV nm(-1) in silica. The fluence Φ dependences of AR - 1 under various irradiations are well-normalized with the electronic energy deposition of SHIs, i.e., the product of Se and Φ, with a Se greater than the same critical value of ∼3 keV nm(-1). The normalized data above the critical value fell on a linear relation, AR(Φ) - 1 ∝ SeΦ, for SeΦ < 2 keV nm(-3) and a sublinear relation, AR(Φ) - 1 ∝ (SeΦ)(1/2) for SeΦ > 2 keV nm(-3). On the basis of these experimental results, we discuss some insights into the elongation mechanism.

Abstract
Congenital dislocation of the knee popularly known as genu recurvatum; is a very rare condition, about 0.45% of all congenital anomalies. Furthermore isolated genu recurvatum is extremely rare because 60% of this condition is associated with other congenital anomalies. Congenital dislocation of hip is the commonest associated anomaly. Two babies 1 male and 1 female were born with severe hyperextension deformity of the knees about 30° degrees. Clinically and radiologically they were diagnosed as isolated genu recurvatum due to congenital dislocation of the knees. Gentle manipulation in the form of passive stretching and knee flexion was started at first day of life. The deformity of male and female baby was corrected in 34 and 30 days respectively. The babies were moving the knees and lower limbs normally at final follow up at 6 months follow up and were confirmed clinically and radiologically. Early recognition and immediate manipulation cures the condition fully in short time without operation.

Abstract
This paper looks at the design, fabrication and characterization of stackable microfluidic emulsion generators, with coefficients of variation as low as ~6% and with production rates as high as ~1 L h(-1). This work reports the highest throughput reported in the literature for a microfluidic device with simultaneous operation of liquid-liquid droplet generators. The device was achieved by stacking several layers of 128 flow-focusing droplet generators, organized in a circular array. These layers are interconnected via through-holes and fed with designated fractal distribution networks. The proposed layers were milled on poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) sheets and the stack was thermo-compression bonded to create a three-dimensional device with a high density of generators and an integrated hydraulic manifold. The effect of stacking multiple layers was studied and the results show that fabrication accuracy has a greater impact on the dispersity of the emulsion than the addition of more layers to the stack. Particle crystallization of drugs was also demonstrated as a possible application of this technology in industry.

Abstract
AIMS Data on metastatic Ewing's sarcoma family of tumours (ESFT) with uniform chemotherapy protocol are minimal. MATERIALS AND METHODS This was a single institutional patient review of patients treated between June 2003 and November 2011 and evaluated on an intent-to-treat analysis. All patients received uniform chemotherapy: neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT), surgery and/or radiotherapy as local treatment followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. Local treatment was offered if the patient achieved a complete response and/or a partial response at both the primary and the metastatic site. RESULTS In total, 150/374 (40%) ESFT patients were metastatic, with a median age of 15 years (range: 2-50); a tumour diameter of 10 cm (range: 1.8-26). Most common metastatic sites were lung only (53; 35%), bone only (35; 23%) and combined bone/lung (25; 17%). Twenty patients underwent surgery; 55 patients received radical radiotherapy after NACT. After a median follow-up of 26.1 months (range: 1.6-101.6), 5 year event-free survival (EFS), overall survival and local control rate (LCR) were 9.1 ± 3.3%, 16.9 ± 5.2% and 31.8 ± 7.9%, respectively. Univariate analysis showed serum albumin ≤3.4 g/dl (P < 0.001) to predict inferior EFS. Tumour size >8 cm (P = 0.05), haemoglobin ≤10 g/dl (P = 0.04), hypoalbuminaemia (P = 0.003) and radical radiotherapy as local treatment (P = 0.03) predicted inferior overall survival. No factor significantly predicted LCR, although age ≤15 years (P = 0.08) and radical radiotherapy as local treatment (P = 0.09) had a trend towards inferior LCR. Hypoalbuminaemia was the only prognostic factor to predict EFS on multivariate analysis. CONCLUSION This was the largest study of metastatic ESFT from Asia and identified a unique prognostic factor. In view of dismal prognosis with conventional chemotherapy in metastatic ESFT with hypoalbuminaemia, palliative intent therapy may be a potential therapeutic alternative for this subgroup of patients, especially in resource-challenged situations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There are few published studies describing the clinical results of patients uniformly treated for a Ewing-family tumor of an extremity. METHODS We performed a review of patients who had received uniform treatment consisting of neoadjuvant chemotherapy, surgery and/or radiation therapy as local treatment, and then adjuvant chemotherapy from June 2003 to November 2011 at a single institution. RESULTS There were 158 patients included in the study. The median age was fifteen years. Sixty-nine (44%) of the patients had metastatic disease at presentation. Fifty-seven patients underwent surgery, and forty-one received radical radiation therapy following neoadjuvant chemotherapy. After a median of 24.3 months (range, 1.6 to ninety-seven months) of follow-up, the five-year event-free survival, overall survival, and local control rates (and standard error) were 24.1% ± 4.3%, 43.5% ± 6%, and 55% ± 6.8%, respectively, for the entire cohort and 36.4% ± 6.2%, 57.6% ± 7.4%, and 58.2% ± 7.9%, respectively, for patients without metastases. In the multivariate analysis, metastases predicted inferior event-free survival (p = 0.02) and overall survival (p = 0.03) rates in the entire cohort, whereas radical radiation therapy predicted an inferior local control rate in the entire cohort (p = 0.001) and in patients without metastases (p = 0.04). In the group with localized disease, there was no difference between the patients who received radical radiation therapy and those who underwent surgery with regard to tumor diameter (p = 0.8) or post-neoadjuvant chemotherapy response (p = 0.1). A white blood cell count (WBC) of >11 × 109/L predicted inferior event-free survival (p = 0.005) and local control (p = 0.02) rates for patients without metastases. CONCLUSIONS To our knowledge, this is the largest study on extremity Ewing-family tumors treated with uniform chemotherapy and either surgical resection or radical radiation therapy in Asia. All possible efforts should be made to resect a primary tumor after neoadjuvant chemotherapy, as radical radiation therapy alone results in a poor local control rate despite a good post-neoadjuvant chemotherapy response. Patients without metastases but with a high WBC had inferior event-free survival and local control rates and may require more aggressive therapy. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Therapeutic Level IV. Abstract
BACKGROUND Implementation of colorectal cancer screening programme and provision of cancer service within certain timeframe has significantly increased the workload on endoscopy services. Direct access colonoscopy in primary care centers helps offload burden on conventional colonoscopy in secondary care, thereby reducing waiting times. The aim of this study was to assess the safety and efficacy of direct access colonoscopy service. MATERIALS AND METHODS Provision of colonoscopy service in our healthcare trust was analysed retrospectively during a two-year period. Safety and feasibility of direct access colonoscopy was analysed against conventional colonoscopy. The groups were compared for findings at colonoscopy, procedural outcomes, and complications. RESULTS A total of 3468 colonoscopies were analysed. Of those, 1189(34.3%) were performed as direct access colonoscopy and 2279(65.7%) as conventional colonoscopy. No abnormality was detected in 408/1189(34.3%) and 825/2279(36.2%) patients in the direct access colonoscopy and conventional colonoscopy groups, respectively (p = 0.52). Colorectal cancer detection rate was similar between the groups; conventional colonoscopy vs direct access colonoscopy, 3.1% (68/2279) vs 3.2% (39/1189) (p = 0.85). However, there was significantly higher detection rate of polyps greater than 1 cm in conventional colonoscopy group compared to direct access colonoscopy group, 22.6%(518/2289) vs 12.6% (150/1189) (p = 0.02). Complication rates were comparable between the groups. CONCLUSION Direct access colonoscopy in primary care centers is safe and feasible. Colorectal cancer detection remains comparable to that of conventional colonoscopy in secondary care despite relatively lower polyp detection rate.

Abstract
The ion-irradiation induced synthesis of embedded Au nanoparticles (NPs) into glass from islands of Au on a glass substrate is studied in the context of recoiling atoms, sputtering and viscous flow. Cross sectional transmission electron microscopy studies revealed the formation of Au NPs embedded in the glass substrates by the 50 keV Si(-) ion irradiation of irregularly shaped Au nanostructures on the glass surfaces at a fluence of 3 × 10(16) ions/cm(2). The depth profiles of Au in the samples were obtained from high-resolution Rutherford backscattering spectrometry studies. The results from TRIDYN simulation reveal the role of various ion-induced processes during the synthesis of the embedded Au NPs, viz. sputtering and recoiling atoms. Simulation and experimental results suggest that the viscous flow is one of the major factors that are responsible for the embedding of Au nanoparticles into the glass substrate.

Abstract
Background: Oculomotor nerve palsy (OMNP) is a well-recognized complication of posterior communicating artery (PCOM) aneurysms. Only a few comparative studies have assessed the effect of clipping versus coiling on recovery from OMNP in PCOM aneurysms. A retrospective review and meta-analysis was conducted to assess the relationship between PCOM aneurysm treatment and OMNP. Materials and Methods: Medical records of all patients presenting between January 2000 and February 2013 with intracranial aneurysm were searched. All patients with OMNP secondary to PCOM aneurysm were included for analysis. Patients undergoing surgical clipping or endovascular coiling were compared with respect to complete resolution of OMNP after aneurysm surgery (i.e., primary outcome). A meta-analysis of published studies of OMNP associated with PCOM aneurysm was performed after a MEDLINE search. Results: Seventeen patients with OMNP secondary to PCOM aneurysms met the inclusion criteria. Surgical clipping (seven of eight patients, or 87.5%) resulted in greater complete resolution of OMNP compared with endovascular coiling (four of nine patients, or 44.4%), P = 0.13. A meta-analysis of similar studies revealed that complete resolution of OMNP was more commonly associated with surgical clipping (36 of 43 patients, or 83.7%) than with endovascular coiling (29 of 55 patients, or 52.7%), yielding an adjusted odds ratio (OR) of 6.04 [confidence interval (CI) =1.88-19.45, P = 0.003]. Multivariate analysis found that the degree of pre-operative OMNP (OR = 0.07, CI = 0.02-0.28, P = 0.001) and surgical clipping (OR = 6.37, CI = 1.73-23.42, P = 0.005) were significant factors that affected the complete recovery of OMNP. Conclusion: Complete recovery of OMNP with PCOM aneurysms is more commonly associated with surgical clipping than with endovascular coiling. Also, the degree of pre-operative OMNP and the treatment modality are significant factors that affect the complete recovery of OMNP.

Abstract
Abstract
Background: CDB4124, anti-progesterone suppresses the development of carcinogen-induced ER+/PR+ mammary tumors in rats, and may have implications for prevention and treatment of human breast cancer. We hypothesize that progesterone (P4) and medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) will accelerate mammary carcinogenesis induced by MNU, however CDB4124 will efficiently suppress tumor formation stimulated by progesterone.
Methods: ovary intact female Sprague Dawley rats received a single intraperitoneal injection of 50mg/kg MNU at 4-5 weeks of age. 30mg of CDB4124 and 25mg of P4 or MPA (90 release pellets, Innovative research of America, Inc) were implanted in dorsal area at 3 weeks and 4 weeks after MNU injection, respectively. 10-11 rats were used for each treatment group. Tumor incidence, latency, multiplicity, and burden were recorded weekly. 9 weeks after MNU injection all the mice were euthanized and mammary tumors and glands were fixed in 10% (v/v) neutral buffered formalin. Plasma concentrations of CDB4124 and its metabolite CDB4453 were determined by LC-MS/MS.
Results: The first tumor appeared in the control group at 5 weeks, and in the P4 and MPA treated groups at 6 weeks after MNU injection. 7 weeks after MNU injection, mammary tumor incidence of MPA and P4 treated groups were 80% and 50%, respectively compared to 30% in the control group. 9 weeks after MNU injection all MPA treated mice, 80% of P4 treated mice, and 60% of control mice developed tumors. Tumor incidence, latency, multiplicity, and tumor weight were summarized as mean ± SD in Table 1.
[Table 1] Tumor latency, incidence, multiplicity, and burden in mammary tumorsTreatmentsLatency (days)Incidence(%)MultiplicityBurden (g)Control53.7 ± 12.9602.34.25 ± 7.02P453.6 ± 9.6802.64.11 ± 5.32MPA50.8 ± 7.71002.56.02 ± 4.85P4 + CDB412459.3 ± 11.53621.38 ± 0.61MPA + CDB412454.3 ± 10.7732.84.19 ± 4.39
Tumor latency of CDB4124 treated groups was increased; tumor incidence and burden (g) of CDB4124 treated groups were decreased compared to P4 and MPA treated groups. In particular, tumor incidence and burden of CDB4124 + P4 treated group were significantly lower than those of the control group. Plasma CDB4124 and CDB4453 were 11.6 ±5.88 ng/mL and 3.4±1.68 ng/mL, respectively. Histopathology of tumors and mammary glands and immuno-histochemical evaluations of Ki67, activated caspase-3, CD34, ER, and PR are currently underway.
Conclusions: Our results indicated that natural progesterone promotes MNU- induced mammary tumor formation similar to synthetic progesterone, MPA in rats. Under this tumor permissive environment, CDB4124 provided excellent prevention efficacy, suggesting good potential as breast cancer prevention agent.
