Efficacy of low molecular weight heparin in spinal trauma patients after part concentrated screw surgery and its influence on blood parameters and the incidence of deep venous thrombosis

This study was to investigate the efficacy of low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) therapy in patients with spinal trauma after part concentrated screw (PCS) pedicle screw surgery (PSS) and its influence on blood parameters and the incidence of deep venous thrombosis. Prospectively, 36 patients with spinal trauma who underwent PSS were randomly divided into an experimental group (n = 18) and a control group (n = 18). The experimental group was treated with LMWH after the operation. Changes in the vascular endothelial function, inflammatory factors and other blood indexes, and the incidence of deep venous thrombosis in lower extremities were compared between the two groups before and after the surgery. Compared to pre-surgery, the levels of endothelin (ET) and tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) in the experimental group decreased significantly after surgery (all P < 0.001), while the levels of ET increased and tPA decreased significantly in the control group (all P < 0.001). In addition, compared with pre-surgical levels, interleukin-8 (IL-8), IL-6 and procalcitonin (PCT) decreased significantly in the experimental group after surgery while there was a significant increase in these cytokines in the control group (all P < 0.001), with a significant difference in the cytokine levels between the two groups post-surgery (P < 0.01). After the surgery, plasma viscosity, erythrocyte electrophoresis time and platelet aggregation rate in the control group were significantly increased from pre-surgery levels (all P < 0.001), and these levels were also significantly higher than in the experimental group (P < 0.01). The D-dimer (D-D) level in both groups also increased significantly after surgery (all P < 0.001), and the level post-surgery was significantly higher in the experimental group as compared to the control group (P < 0.01). Finally, the incidence of deep venous thrombosis in the experimental group was significantly lower than in the control group (P < 0.05). LMWH is beneficial in reducing the degree of hypercoagulability, hyperviscosity and inflammatory reaction in patients with spinal trauma who underwent PSS. It also effectively reduced the occurrence of deep vein thrombosis in lower limbs after surgery. Thus, it is a candidate for further clinical development.

Optimization of Dietary Zinc Requirement for Broiler Breeder Hens of Chinese Yellow-Feathered Chicken

China is the second-largest global producer of chicken meat, almost half of which is from the Chinese yellow-feathered breed; a systematic program has been initiated to improve its feeding standards. This study evaluated the optimal requirement of dietary zinc for maximal egg production, egg quality, tibial quality, and antioxidant indices of laying broiler breeders. The results revealed several beneficial effects of supplementary zinc on egg production, feed conversion ratio, yolk zinc content, tibial quality and the antioxidant indices in the serum, liver and ovary. The optimal zinc requirement was estimated based on a regression model.

Abstract

This study aimed to establish the optimal dietary zinc requirement of Chinese yellow-feathered Lingnan broiler breeders. A total of 576 breeder hens aged 58 weeks were randomly assigned to six treatments, each with 6 replicates of 16 birds (n = 96/treatment). The hens were fed either a basal diet (22.81 mg/kg Zn) or the same basal diet supplemented with additional 24, 48, 72, 96, and 120 mg Zn/kg up to 65 weeks of age. Compared to the results of birds fed the basal diet (22.81 mg Zn/kg), the dietary supplementation with additional Zn (mg/kg) showed higher egg laying rate (at 48–120 mg), EM (at 96 mg/kg), yolk Zn content (at 24–120 mg/kg), fertility (at 48–120 mg/kg), hatchability (at 48–96 mg/kg), tibial breaking strength (at 24–48 mg/kg), tibial ash content (at 48 mg/kg), serum CuZnSOD activity (at 72 mg/kg) and T-AOC (at 48 mg/kg), and ovarian CuZnSOD and GSH-Px activities (at 96–120 mg/kg), and lower FCR (at 96 mg/kg). The regression model showed that the optimal supplemental Zn for maximal egg laying rate, yolk Zn content, fertility, and hatchability of Chinese yellow-feathered broiler breeders aged 58 to 65 weeks were 71.09, 92.34, 94.44 and 98.65 mg/kg diet, respectively.

High expression of Livin serves as a predictive indicator for parotid gland tumors

OBJECTIVE

The aim of this study was to explore the expression of Livin in benign and malignant parotid gland tumors. We also investigate the role of Livin in the occurrence and progression of parotid gland tumors.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

Livin expression in 30 cases of normal parotid gland tissues, 40 cases of benign parotid gland tumors and 60 cases of malignant parotid gland tumors was detected by immunohistochemistry. The correlation between Livin expression and pathological characteristics of patients with parotid gland tumors was analyzed. The differentially expressed Livin in normal parotid gland tissues and malignant parotid gland tumors was determined by Western blot and quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR), respectively.

RESULTS

Livin expression was unable to be detected in normal parotid gland tissues. The positive rate of Livin expression in benign and malignant parotid gland tumors was 17.50% and 71.67%, respectively (p<0.05). Livin expression was correlated to malignant level, clinical stage and tumor diameter in 60 cases of malignant parotid gland tumors (p<0.05). However, the positive rate of Livin expression was not correlated to lymph node metastasis, age and sex of patients with parotid gland tumors (p>0.05).

CONCLUSIONS

Livin expression is closely related to the pathological progression of parotid gland tumors, which may serve as a hallmark in diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of patients with parotid gland tumors.

[Diagnostic value of HBP, PCT combined with APACHE Ⅱ score respectively in ventilator-associated pneumonia]

Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic value of the heparin-binding protein (HBP), procalcitonin (PCT) and acute physiology and chronic health evaluation Ⅱ (APACHE Ⅱ) score in ventilator-associated pneμmonia (VAP). Methods: A total of 160 patients who required tracheotomy or intubation and assisted breathing with invasive mechanical ventilator from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2015 to January 2017 was included in this prospective study,and divided into VAP group and no-VAP group based on if VAP happened or not; the VAP group was further divided into deterioration group and improvement group based on the curative effect after anti-infective treatment for 1 week. A total of 40 community acquired pneumonia (CAP) patients and 30 healthy volunteers were also included as control groups. The levels of HBP and PCT in blood of the subjects were tested with enzyme-linked immuno sorbent assay (ELISA) and chemiluminescence immunoassay (ECLIA) respectively, APACHE Ⅱ score was utilized to assess the severity of illness. The difference of HBP, PCT levels and APACHE Ⅱ score among the groups were analyzed. Receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve was utilized to analyze the diagnostic value of HBP, PCT, APACHE Ⅱ score in VAP. Results: A total of 230 subjects participated in this study, including 68 VAP patients, 92 non-VAP patients, 40 CAP patients and 30 healthy volunteers. Before administration of mechanical ventilation, there were no statistically significant differences in HBP, PCT and APACHE Ⅱ score between VAP group and non-VAP group (all P>0.05). The levels of HBP,PCT and APACHE Ⅱ score were (41.4±21.3) μg/L,(0.355±0.254) μg/L,(13.4±2.5) respectively when the VAP was diagnosed,which were higher than those within the first 12 h of mechanical ventilation (7.3±2.7) μg/L, (0.080±0.038) μg/L, (8.4±2.0), all P<0.001). The HBP, PCT and APACHE Ⅱ score had no significant difference between within the first 12 h of mechanical ventilation and after mechanical ventilation in non-VAP group (all P>0.05). The levels of HBP was positively correlated with PCT and APACHE Ⅱ score (r=0.82, 0.68, all P<0.001). In deterioration group,the HBP,PCT and APACHE Ⅱ score after 1 week of anti-infective treatment were higher than those when the VAP was diagnosed (all P<0.001). No matter it is when the VAP was diagnosed or after anti-infective treatment for 1 week,the levels of HBP, PCT and APACHE Ⅱ score in deterioration group were higher than those in the improvement group (all P<0.001). The area under curve (AUC) of HBP+APACHE Ⅱ score, PCT+APACHE Ⅱ score for VAP diagnosis was 0.98, 0.95 respectively. The sensitivity of HBP+APACHE Ⅱ score in the diagnosis of VAP was lower than PCT+APACHE Ⅱ score (94.1% vs 95.6%),and the specificity was higher (92.4% vs 82.6%). Conclusion: The diagnostic value of HBP+APACHE Ⅱ score for early VAP is superior to PCT+APACHE Ⅱ score.

Ozonation process intensification of p-nitrophenol by in situ separation of hydroxyl radical scavengers and microbubbles

The ozonation efficiency for removal of recalcitrant organic pollutants in alkaline wastewater is always low because of the presence of some hydroxyl radical scavengers. To solve this problem, the O₃/Ca(OH)₂ system was put forward, and p-nitrophenol (PNP) was chosen to explore the mechanism of this system. The effects of key operational parameters were studied respectively; the Ca(OH)₂ dosage 3 g/L, ozone inlet flow rate 3.5 L/min, ozone concentration 65 mg/L, reactor pressure 0.25 MPa, and temperature 25 °C were obtained as the optimal operating conditions. After 60 min treatment, the organic matter mineralized completely, which was higher than the sum of the ozonation-alone process (55.63%) and the Ca(OH)₂ process (3.53%). It suggests that the calcium hydroxide in the O₃/Ca(OH)₂ process possessed a paramount role in the removal of PNP. The liquid samples and the precipitated substances were analyzed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy; it was demonstrated that Ca(OH)₂ could accelerate the generation of hydroxyl radical and simultaneously in situ separate partial intermediate products and CO₃ ^2- ions through some precipitation reactions.

Lattice -Mismatch-Induced Ultrastable 1T-Phase MoS2-Pd/Au for Plasmon-Enhanced Hydrogen Evolution

Metallic 1T-phase transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are of considerable interest in enhancing catalytic applications due to their abundant active sites and good conductivity. However, the unstable nature of 1T-phase TMDs greatly impedes their practical applications. Herein, we developed a new approach for the synthesis of highly stable 1T-phase Au/Pd-MoS₂ nanosheets (NSs) through a metal assembly induced ultrastable phase transition for achieving a very high electrocatalytic activity in the hydrogen evolution reaction. The phase transition was evoked by a novel mechanism of lattice-mismatch-induced strain based on density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to confirm the phase transition on experimental grounds. A novel heterostructured 1T MoS₂-Au/Pd catalyst was designed and synthesized using this mechanism, and the catalyst exhibited a 0 mV onset potential in the hydrogen evolution reaction under light illumination. Therefore, this method can potentially be used to fabricate 1T-phase TMDs with remarkably enhanced activities for different applications.

Urban blue: A global analysis of the factors shaping people's perceptions of the marine environment and ecological engineering in harbours

Marine harbours are the focus of a diverse range of activities and subject to multiple anthropogenically induced pressures. Support for environmental management options aimed at improving degraded harbours depends on understanding the factors which influence people's perceptions of harbour environments. We used an online survey, across 12 harbours, to assess sources of variation people's perceptions of harbour health and ecological engineering. We tested the hypotheses: 1) people living near impacted harbours would consider their environment to be more unhealthy and degraded, be more concerned about the environment and supportive of and willing to pay for ecological engineering relative to those living by less impacted harbours, and 2) people with greater connectedness to the harbour would be more concerned about and have greater perceived knowledge of the environment, and be more supportive of, knowledgeable about and willing to pay for ecological engineering, than those with less connectedness. Across twelve locations, the levels of degradation and modification by artificial structures were lower and the concern and knowledge about the environment and ecological engineering were greater in the six Australasian and American than the six European and Asian harbours surveyed. We found that people's perception of harbours as healthy or degraded, but not their concern for the environment, reflected the degree to which harbours were impacted. There was a positive relationship between the percentage of shoreline modified and the extent of support for and people's willingness to pay indirect costs for ecological engineering. At the individual level, measures of connectedness to the harbour environment were good predictors of concern for and perceived knowledge about the environment but not support for and perceived knowledge about ecological engineering. To make informed decisions, it is important that people are empowered with sufficient knowledge of the environmental issues facing their harbour and ecological engineering options.

Application of activated carbon supported cobalt(II) tetraaminophthalocyanine towards preparation of dimethyl disulfide

Dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) is an important fine chemical that can be prepared by the refined Merox process of oxidation of sodium methyl mercaptide (SMM) in the presence of a catalyst. In this paper, a novel activated carbon (AC) supported cobalt(II) tetraaminophthalocyanine (AC-CoTAPc) catalyst was prepared by the chemical grafting method. EA, UV-vis, FT-IR, BET and XPS were used to characterize the structure of the new catalyst. The effects of reaction time, catalyst dosage, reaction temperature and oxygen pressure on SMM conversion per pass (CPP[Formula: see text], yield (Yield[Formula: see text] and purity of DMDS product (Purity[Formula: see text] were investigated to evaluate the catalytic performance of new AC-CoTAPc catalyst. The results show that free CoTAPc is easily dissolved in this DMDS product, which needs extra post treatment and cannot be reused. The supported catalyst AC-CoTAPc can easily solve these problems and can be properly reused four times to get Yield[Formula: see text] and CPP[Formula: see text] higher than 70% and 90%. Under optimum conditions, the Yield[Formula: see text] andCPP[Formula: see text] of the AC-CoTAPc catalyst could be as high as 87.4% and 98.1%, with a purity[Formula: see text]of DMDS product of above 99.9%. AC-CoTAPc exhibits better catalytic and reuse performance than the commercial AC-supported sulphonated cobalt(II) phthalocyanine (AC-CoPcS) catalyst and shows broad industrial application prospects.

Chlorin e6-Coated Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticle (SPION) Nanoclusters as a Theranostic Agent for Dual-Mode Imaging and Photodynamic Therapy

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an approved modality for the treatment of various types of maligancies and diseased states. However, most of the available photosensitizers (PS) are highly hydrophobic, which limits their solubility and dispersion in biological fluids and can lead to self-quenching and sub-optimal therapeutic efficacy. In this study, chlorin e6 (Ce6)-coated superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticle (SPION) nanoclusters (Ce6-SCs) were prepared via an oil-in-water emulsion. The physical-chemical properties of the Ce6-SCs were systematically evaluated. Dual-mode imaging and PDT was subsequently performed in tumor-bearing mice. Chlorin e6 is capable of solubilizing hydrophobic SPION into stable, water-soluble nanoclusters without the use of any additional amphiphiles or carriers. The method is reproducible and the Ce6-SCs are highly stable under physiological conditions. The Ce6-SCs have an average diameter of 92 nm and low polydispersity (average PDI < 0.2). Encapsulation efficiency of both Ce6 and SPION is ≈100%, and the total Ce6 payload can be as high as 56% of the total weight (Ce6 + Fe). The Ce6-SCs localize within tumors via enhanced permeability and retention and are detectable by magnetic resonance (MR) and optical imaging. With PDT, Ce6-SCs demonstrate high singlet oxygen generation and produce a significant delay in tumor growth in mice.

Cellular mechanism of Tβ4 intervention in liver fibrosis by regulating NF-κB signaling pathway

OBJECTIVE

To investigate the inhibitory effect of thymosin-β4 (Tβ4) on the activation of the human hepatic stellate cell line (HSC-LX2) induced by interleukin (IL)-1β.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

There were 5 groups in this study, i.e., blank control group, negative control group (SI-NC, empty plasmid), model group (20 ng/ml of IL-1β), siRNA-Tβ4 knockdown group (IL-1β and si-Tβ4) and Tβ4 treatment group (IL-1β and 1000 ng/ml of Tβ4). Cell proliferation rate was measured using the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) method. The cell cycle change and percentage of apoptotic cells were determined by Propidium Iodide (PI) DNA staining and Annexin V-fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) double staining. Cellular nucleic acid levels of p-IKB and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB)/p65 proteins were measured by fluorescent quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR). Double immunofluorescence staining and Western blot were used to detect nuclear translocation of NF-κB and p65 and levels of cytoplasmic p-IKB protein and nuclear p65 protein.

RESULTS

Due to the G0/G1 phase arrest, the number of cells in the Tβ4 treatment group increased, compared with the model group and the siRNA-Tβ4 knockdown group (p<0.01). In the same between-group comparison, apoptotic rate in the Tβ4 treatment group increased significantly (p<0.05). The cellular nucleic acid levels of p-IKB and NF-κB/p65 were markedly higher in the model group and the siRNA-Tβ4 knockdown group than in the blank control group (p<0.01). The cellular nucleic acid levels of p-IKB and NF-κB/p65 were remarkably lower in the Tβ4 treatment group than in the siRNA-Tβ4 knockdown group (p<0.01). The expression levels of NF-κB/p65 and NF-κB/p50 were significantly lower in the Tβ4 treatment group. The expression levels of cytoplasmic p-IKB and nuclear NF-κB/p65 were lower in the Tβ4 treatment group than in the model group (p<0.01).

CONCLUSIONS

Tβ4 significantly inhibited IL-1β-induced HSC-LX2 cell proliferation. The mechanism may involve decreased activation of the NF-κB pathway, decreased expression of p-IKB and nuclear translocation of p65. Therefore, Tβ4 had the effect of reversing liver fibrosis.

Combining 3D graphene-like screen-printed carbon electrode with methylene blue-loaded liposomal nanoprobes for phospholipase A2 detection

Phospholipase A2 (PLA2) enzyme could be acted as a unique biomarker for forecasting and diagnosing certain diseases. Therefore, it is important to monitor PLA2 activity in biological and clinical samples. In this work, a simple electrochemical assay for PLA2 activity was developed based on a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) with 3D graphene-like surface. When the PLA2-containing sample was mixed with the nanoprobes, i.e. the electroactive marker methylene blue (MB) encapsulated within nanometer-sized phospholipid liposomes, MB was released and adsorbed/enriched in site onto the surface of SPCE in a micro-cell. The encapsulation and enzymatic release of MB were evaluated using UV-Vis and fluorescence. The peak current due to oxidation of the adsorbed MB on the SPCE was measured by square-wave voltammetry (SWV). The current was directly linear to the PLA2 activity from 5 U/L to 200 U/L with a detection limit of 3 U/L. The same method can also be used for screening PLA2 inhibitors. Thus, the enrichment strategy developed in this work could be a promising signal amplification method for the sensitive and selective detection of PLA2 in biological or clinical samples.

[New psychoactive substances abuse among patients with access to methadone maintenance treatment in Jiangsu province: a case-control study]

Objective: To explore the reasons and factors associated with new psychoactive substances abuse among patients with access to methadone maintenance treatment (MMT). Methods: A well-developed questionnaire and urine tests were used to collect information about demographic characteristics, condition of MMT and drug abuse, family and social support of MMT clients. A 1∶1 matched case-control study was conducted, and conditional logistic regression model was used to identify factors associated with new psychoactive substances abuse. Results: A total of 212 (106 pairs) clients receiving MMT were recruited, and most of them were males (78.3%, 166/212), married or cohabitant (48.6%, 103/212) and unemployed (63.2%, 134/212). The average age of the clients was (45.1±7.2) years. The main types of abused new psychoactive substances were benzodiazepine (62.3%, 66/106) and methamphetamine (39.6%, 42/106). The proportion of abusing multi new psychoactive substances was 8.5% (9/106). Results from multivariate conditional logistic regression analysis indicated that using opioid drug during the past 6 months of MMT treatment might increase the risk of abusing new psychoactive substances (OR=3.25, 95%CI: 1.35-7.79), benzodiazepine (OR=3.25, 95%CI: 1.11- 9.47) and methamphetamine (OR=13.31, 95%CI: 1.12-158.01). Moreover, MMT for more than9 years reduced the risk of abuse of new psychoactive substances (OR=0.03, 95%CI: 0.01-0.21), benzodiazepine (OR=0.02, 95%CI: 0.00-0.36) and methamphetamine (OR=0.02, 95%CI: 0.00-0.69). Conclusion: Less new psychoactive substances abuse might be associated with longer duration of MMT treatment. And inappropriate support from family and friends might increase the risk of abusing new psychoactive substances in MMT clients, especially in clients who used opioid.

Radiofrequency-Triggered Drug Release from Nanoliposomes with Millimeter-Scale Resolution Using a Superimposed Static Gating Field

Drug delivery to a specific site in the body typically relies on the use of targeting agents that recognize a unique biomarker. Unfortunately, it is often difficult to identify unique molecular signatures that exist only at the site of interest. An alternative strategy is to deliver energy (e.g., light) to locally trigger release from a drug carrier; however, the use of this approach is limited because energy delivery to deep tissues is often impractical or invasive. In this work, radiofrequency-responsive superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) are used to trigger drug release from nanoscale vesicles. Because the body is inherently nonmagnetic, this approach allows for deep tissue targeting. To overcome the unfavorable meter-scale diffraction limit of SPION-compatible radiofrequency (RF) fields, a strong static gating field containing a sharp zero point is superimposed on the RF field. Only drug carriers that are at or near the zero point are susceptible to RF-triggered drug release, thereby localizing drug delivery with millimeter-scale resolution. This approach induces >40% drug release from thermally responsive doxorubicin-loaded liposomes within a 3.2 mm radius of the zero point with <10% release in the surrounding area, leading to a >2.5 therapeutic index in Huh 7 hepatocellular carcinoma cells.

Site-Specific Labeling of Cyanine and Porphyrin Dye-Stabilized Nanoemulsions with Affibodies for Cellular Targeting

Recently, it has been shown that amphiphilic dyes such as Indocyanine Green (ICG) and Protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) can solubilize hydrophobic colloids and/or drugs by driving the formation of stable nanoemulsions. These nanoemulsions are unique in that they can be composed entirely of functional and clinically used materials; however, they lack bio-orthogonal chemical handles for the facile attachment of targeting ligands. The ability to target nanoparticles is desirable because it can lead to improved specificity and reduced side effects. Here, we describe variants of ICG and PpIX with azide handles that can be readily incorporated into dye-stabilized nanoemulsions and facilitate the attachment of targeting ligands via click-chemistry in a simple, scalable, and reproducible reaction. As a model system, an anti-Her2 affibody was site-specifically attached to both ICG and PpIX-stabilized nanoemulsions with encapsulated superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles.

High-efficiency nutrients reclamation from landfill leachate by microalgae Chlorella vulgaris in membrane photobioreactor for bio-lipid production

Using microalgae to treat landfill leachate is a promising approach due to the effective nutrients reclamation ability and additional profit of bio-lipid production. To offset the negative effect of landfill leachate on microalgae cells, a membrane photobioreactor (m-PBR) was adopted in the study, in which microalgae biomass concentration was improved from 0.66 in traditional photobioreactor (T-PBR) to 0.95 g/L. Nutrients reclamation efficiencies of leachate were analyzed according to elemental balance, and the results showed that nitrogen reclamation efficiency was generally lower than 50% while phosphorus reclamation efficiency was higher than 70% due to elemental availability. The nitrogen and phosphorus reclamation efficiencies in the m-PBR were much higher than that in the T-PBR. Besides, lipid produced from the m-PBR had a high cetane number of 60.96% and low linolenic acid content of 8.32%, which demonstrated good combustion properties of the microalgae-based lipid when using landfill leachate as nutrients source.

[Application of MDCT and post-processing in children with tracheal foreign body]

Objective:To explore the clinical value of MDCT and post-processing in children with suspected foreign body in trachea.Method:Two hundred patients with suspected tracheal foreign body were treated with 64-slice spiral CT (MDCT) and simulated endoscopic imaging,then compared with seen in bronchoscopy; Compare the results of MDCT and post-processing with the coincidence of intraoperative findings.Result:One hundred and eighty-four cases of positive children were examined by MDCT postprocessing technique and bronchoscopy,179 cases were obstructed by exogenous foreign body,5 cases were phlegm thrombosis (endogenous foreign body) obstruction; 16 cases of children with no foreign body diagnosed by MDCT post-processing technique were also examined by bronchoscopy. The results showed that there was a foreign body in 1 case,and the foreign body was located in the pharyngeal cleft (watermelon spermoderm),and the remaining 15 cases had no foreign body. MDCT and post-treatment techniques for children with tracheal foreign body diagnosis of 99.4% sensitivity,specificity of 75%.There was no significant difference in the detection rate of foreign body between the two techniques of MDCT and post-processing technique and bronchoscopy (P>0.05). Examed by MDCT and postprocessing,we can understand the specific location and size of foreign body,nature,shape preoperatively.Conclusion:Although MDCT and post-processing techniques can not be used to treat tracheal foreign bodies,but the diagnostic rate of bronchial foreign bodies is comparable to that of bronchoscopy. We could apply MDCT examination and post processing before the bronchoscopy,for foreign body inhalation history is not clear,or suspected airway foreign body. We can improve the level of diagnosis and treatment through guiding the operation of bronchoscopy focus.

Risk factors of haemoglobinuria after microwave ablation of liver tumours

AIM

To explore the risk factors predicting haemoglobinuria after ultrasound-guided percutaneous microwave ablation (MWA) of liver tumours and discuss the treatments and outcomes.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

The present study comprised 2,829 patients admitted for liver tumours treated with MWA from Jan 2011 to April 2017. Ethics committee approval was waived and informed consent for treatment procedures were obtained from the patients. Haemoglobinuria after MWA was found in 149 patients. The influence of 19 risk factors was assessed. Binary logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis were used for statistical analysis. The treatments and outcomes of patients with haemoglobinuria were summarised.

RESULTS

By univariate analysis, histopathology, liver cirrhosis, MWA volume, MWA energy, and MWA duration were significant risk factors. By multivariate analysis and ROC curve, MWA energy, duration, and volume were identified as predictors of haemoglobinuria after MWA. Drug treatments including kidney protection, adequate hydration, alkalisation of urine, and diuresis were administrated to the patients with haemoglobinuria. One patient progressed to acute kidney injury (AKI) while others had good clinical outcomes.

CONCLUSION

Haemoglobinuria is a controllable side effect after MWA of liver tumours, which is related to high MWA energy, long MWA duration, and great MWA volume. It usually caused few side effects on renal function with correct treatment.

Stabilized monolayer 1T MoS2 embedded in CoOOH for highly efficient overall water splitting

The complicated synthesis procedure and the unstable nature of 1T MoS2 vastly impede its practical application although it has shown a high performance for many different applications. Herein, we have synthesized ultrastable 1T phase MoS2 embedded in CoOOH by a facile one-pot strategy and achieved a high overall water splitting activity. The amorphous CoOOH in this heterostructure not only exhibits high oxygen evolution reaction activity, but also anchors and stabilizes the 1T MoS2 as vertically aligned single layers. This novel method gives new insight into developing stable and active atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenide heterostructures.
