Abstract
Atherosclerosis is a transmural chronic inflammatory disease of medium and large arteries. Though it is well recognized that immune responses contribute to atherosclerosis, it remains unclear whether these responses are carried out in secondary lymphoid organs such as the spleen and lymph nodes and/or within the arterial wall. Arteries are composed of three major layers, i.e., the laminae intima, media, and adventitia. However, each of these layers may play different roles in arterial wall biology and atherogenesis. We identified well-structured artery tertiary lymphoid organs (ATLOs) in the abdominal aorta adventitia but not in the intima of aged apolipoprotein E-null (ApoE(-/-)) mice. These observations suggested that disease-associated immune responses are highly territorialized within the arterial wall and that the adventitia may play distinct and hitherto unrecognized roles. Here, we set out to apply laser capture microdissection (LCM) to dissect plaque, media, adventitia, and adjacent aorta-draining lymph nodes (LN) in aged ApoE(-/-) mice in attempts to establish the territoriality of atherosclerosis immune responses. Using whole-genome mRNA expression microarrays of arterial wall tissues, we constructed robust transcript atlases of wild-type and ApoE(-/-) mouse aortas. Data were deposited in the National Center for Biotechnology Information's gene expression omnibus (GEO) and are accessible to the public through the Internet. These transcript atlases are anticipated to prove valuable to address a wide scope of issues ranging from atherosclerosis immunity and inflammation to the role of single genes in regulating arterial wall remodeling. This chapter presents protocols for LCM of mouse aorta and microarray expression analysis from LCM-isolated aorta laminae.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Radical nephrectomy with inferior vena cava (IVC) thrombectomy is the preferred treatment for renal cell carcinoma (RCC) with IVC thrombus. However, IVC thrombectomy using a laparoscopic approach has not been reported for high-level thrombi. OBJECTIVE To describe the surgical technique for laparoscopic IVC thrombectomy in patients with different thrombus levels and to assess its safety and feasibility. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS Retrospective review of medical records for 11 patients with right-side RCC, including six patients with level II IVC thrombus and five patients with level IV thrombus. SURGICAL PROCEDURE Laparoscopic thrombectomy for level II thrombus was performed after clamping the infrarenal IVC, left renal vein, and infrahepatic IVC. Laparoscopic thrombectomy and thoracoscope-assisted open atriotomy for level IV thrombus were performed after establishing cardiopulmonary bypass and clamping the infrarenal IVC, left renal vein, and hepatoduodenal ligament. MEASUREMENTS The intraoperative variables, postoperative complications, and surgical outcomes were assessed. RESULTS AND LIMITATIONS The median operative time was 210min. The median IVC clamping time for patients with level II and level IV thrombus was 16.5 and 31min, respectively. The median estimated blood loss was 510ml, and no major intraoperative or postoperative complications occurred. One patient with level IV thrombus died of brain metastasis 6 mo after the operation, and the remaining ten patients had no local recurrence or distant metastasis during a median follow-up period of 31 mo. CONCLUSIONS Laparoscopic IVC thrombectomy for level II thrombus and well-selected level IV thrombus may be a safe and technically feasible alternative to open surgery. PATIENT SUMMARY We studied the treatment of patients with an inferior vena cava thrombus at different levels using a laparoscopic approach. This technique was safe and feasible in well-selected patients.

Abstract
Bladder tumor recurrence after surgery for upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UUT-UC) is frequent. Intravesical instillation has been widely accepted as an effective way to prevent bladder tumor recurrence. We aimed to find whether postoperative instillation have benefits for bladder tumor recurrence of UUT-UC. A meta-analysis based on 6 studies from 5 publications was performed. Published literature from PubMed, EMBASE and Web of science was pooled and the hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to estimate the benefits. Conclusively, our results indicate a 62% benefit (HR = 0.38; 95% CI: 0.16-0.87) in recurrence free survival (RFS) among those treated with postoperative intravesical instillation compared with those not. Mitomycin C (MMC) and pirarubicin were found to provide more benefits than other regimens in stratified analysis. Further, after excluding one study for its heterogeneity, the results demonstrated a more reliable results of a 34% benefit (HR = 0.66; 95% CI = 0.44-0.98). This study reveals a relative benefit for postoperative instillation to improve the RFS of UUT-UC patients.

Abstract
MicroRNAs are important regulators in numerous cellular processes, including cell differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis. Recently, miR-143 was identified as a tumor suppressor in prostate cancer (PCa). To explore the mechanism of dysregulation and anti-tumor function of miR-143 in PCa, we first found a single-nucleotide polymorphism rs4705342T>C in the promoter region of miR-143 through bioinformatics tools and then performed a case-control study including 608 PCa patients and 709 controls. Results suggested that subjects with TC/CC genotypes had significantly decreased risk of PCa compared with those with TT genotype (adjusted OR 0.68, 95 % CI 0.55-0.85). Further functional assays showed that the risk-associated T allele increased the protein-binding affinity and reduced the activity of the promoter compared with C allele. In addition, restoration of miR-143 by mimics in PCa cells significantly inhibited cell proliferation and migration and down-regulated the expression level of kallikrein-related peptidase 2 (KLK2) mRNA and protein. The miR-143-KLK2 axis was also confirmed by luciferase reporter assay in vitro. In conclusion, our findings demonstrate that there is the significant association between the functional promoter variant rs4705342T>C in miR-143 and PCa risk and newly describe the miR-143-KLK2 interaction which provided another potential mechanism for miR-143 anti-tumor function.

Abstract
Background Raf-1 kinase inhibitor protein (RKIP) plays a critical role in tumor development by regulating cell functions such as invasion, apoptosis and differentiation. Down-regulation of RKIP expression has been implicated in the development and progression of renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Herein, we hypothesized that genetic polymorphisms in RKIP might be associated with susceptibility and progression of RCC. Methods A total of 5 tagging single-nucleotide polymorphisms (tSNPs) in RKIP were selected and genotyped by SNapShot method in a case-control study of 859 RCC patients and 1004 controls. The logistic regression was used to evaluate the genetic association with occurrence and progression of RCC. The functionality of the important SNP was preliminary examined by qRT-PCR. Result We found that the rs17512051 in the promoter region of RKIP was significantly associated with decreased clear cell RCC (ccRCC) risk (TA/AA vs. TT: P = 0.039, OR = 0.78, 95%CI = 0.62–0.99). Another SNP (rs1051470) in the 3′UTR region of RKIP was marginally associated with increased ccRCC risk (TT vs. CC+CT: OR = 1.45, 95%CI = 1.01–2.09). In the stratified analysis, the protective effect of rs17512051 was more predominant in the subgroups of male, non-smokers, non-drinkers as well as subjects without history of diabetes. Furthermore, we observed higher RKIP mRNA levels in the presence of the rs17512051A allele in normal renal tissues. Conclusion Our results suggest that the potentially functional RKIP rs17512051 polymorphism may affect ccRCC susceptibility through altering the endogenous RKIP expression level. Risk effects and the functional impact of this polymorphism need further validation.

Abstract
PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) are a newly identified class of small non-coding RNAs that can play important roles in germline development and carcinogenesis. In this study, piRNA microarrays were used to investigate global piRNA expression in three bladder cancer tissues and their adjacent normal tissues. Using the 3' untranslated region (UTR) sequence complementarily method, we predicted the target gene of piRNA. Our results showed that the expression levels of 106 piRNAs were up-regulated and 91 were down-regulated in bladder cancer tissues, among which the fold-change of down-regulated piRNA DQ594040 associated with bladder cancer (piRABC) was the highest piRNA. Quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to confirm piRABC expression in paired bladder cancer tissues and their adjacent normal tissues (n = 25). Over-expression of piRABC can inhibit bladder cancer cell proliferation, colony formation, and promote cell apoptosis (all P < 0.05). Luciferase reporter gene assays indicated that piRABC could increase the luciferase activity of TNFSF4. Western blotting analyses and ELISA assays also confirmed that the expression of TNFSF4 protein was up-regulated in control subjects compared with bladder cancer subjects. In conclusion, piRABC plays a crucial role in the development of bladder cancer.

Abstract
Objective The aim of this study was to develop a follow-up strategy based on the new model to reduce unnecessary prostate biopsies in patients with prostate specific antigen (PSA) ranging from 4 to 10 ng/ml. Methods A total of 436 patients with PSA ranging from 4 to 10 ng/ml who had undergone transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided prostate biopsy were evaluated during the first stage. Age, PSA, free PSA (fPSA), digital rectal examination (DRE) findings, ultrasonic hypoechoic mass, ultrasonic microcalcifications, prostate volume (PV) and PSA density (PSAD) were considered as predictive factors. A multiple logistic regression analysis involving a backward elimination selection procedure was applied to select independent predictors. After a comprehensive analysis of all results, we developed a new model to assess the risk of prostate cancer and an effective follow-up strategy. Results Age, PSA, PV, fPSA, rate of abnormal DRE findings and rate of hypoechoic masses detected by TRUS were included in our model. A significantly greater area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve was obtained in our model when compared with using PSA alone (0.782 vs. 0.566). Patients were grouped according to the value of prostate cancer risk (PCaR). In the second stage of our study, patients with PCaR>0.52 were recommended to undergo biopsies immediately while the rest of the patients continued close follow-up observation. Compared with the first stage, the detection rate of PCa in the second stage was significantly increased (33.0% vs 21.1%, p = 0.012). There was no significant difference between the two stages in distribution of the Gleason score (p = 0.808). Conclusions We developed a follow-up strategy based on the new model, which reduced unnecessary prostate biopsies without delaying patients’ diagnoses and treatments.

Abstract
Introduction The overall effect of pamidronate on bone mass density (BMD) in the early renal transplant period varies considerably among studies. The effects of pamidronate on graft function have not been determined. Materials and Methods A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) and Embase independently by two authors. Randomized controlled trials of pamidronate evaluating bone loss in the first year of renal transplantation were included. Methods reported in the “Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions 5.0.2” were used to evaluate changes of lumbar spine and femoral neck BMD, and serum creatinine, calcium and intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) levels. Fixed or random effect models were used as appropriate. Results Six randomized trials evaluating 281 patients were identified. One hundred forty-four were treated with pamidronate and 137 were control patients. Administration of pamidronate was associated with significant reduction of bone loss in the lumbar spine, compared to the control group (standardized mean difference (SMD) = 24.62 [16.25, 32.99]). There was no difference between the pamidronate treated and control femoral neck BMD (SMD = 3.53 [−1.84, 8.90]). A significant increase in the serum creatinine level of the intervention group was seen, compared to the control group. The serum calcium and iPTH of the pamidronate and control groups were not different after 1 year (serum creatinine: SMD = −3.101 [−5.33, −0.89]; serum calcium: SMD = 2.18 [−0.8, 5.16]; serum iPTH: SMD = 0.06 [−0.19, 0.31]). Heterogeneity was low for serum calcium and iPTH and high for serum creatinine. Conclusions This meta-analysis demonstrated the beneficial clinical efficacy of pamidronate on BMD with no association with any alteration in graft function during the first year of renal transplantation. Significant heterogeneity precludes the conclusion of the relationship between serum creatinine and pamidronate.

Abstract
Angiogenesis is fundamentally important to the pathogenesis of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). We investigated the association between variations of genes related to angiogenesis and the risk of ccRCC. In a case-control study of 859 ccRCC patients and 1004 cancer-free subjects, we genotyped 24 potentially functional single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in seven angiogenesis-related genes (HIF1A, EPAS1, VEGFA, VEGFR1, VEGFR2, VEGFR3 and PDGFRB) using the TaqMan or Snapshot method. Unconditional logistic regression, adjusted for potential confounding factors, was used to assess the risk associations. The functionality of selected SNPs was assessed by real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and luciferase reporter gene assays. We found two SNPs (VEGFA rs2010963 and VEGFR3 rs448012) that were significantly associated with increased risk of ccRCC, after adjusting for multiple comparisons [rs2010963 CC/GC cf. GG: false discovery rate (FDR) = 0.048, odds ratio (OR) = 1.36, 95% confidence interval (95% CI) = 1.12-1.66; rs448012 CC/GC cf. GG: FDR = 0.048, OR = 1.38, 95% CI =1.13-1.69]. Real-time quantitative PCR revealed that the variant genotypes of rs2010963, but not rs448012, were associated with increased gene expression in normal tissues of ccRCC patients (CC/GC cf. GG: P = 0.036). The luciferase reporter assay showed that the rs2010963 C allele significantly increased luciferase activity over that of the rs2010963 G allele. Our results indicate that VEGFA rs2010963 and VEGFR3 rs448012 are associated with risk of ccRCC. Furthermore, rs2010963 is a functional SNP that may affect ccRCC susceptibility by modulating endogenous VEGFA expression.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the value of systematic 12- and 13-core biopsies, guided by transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), with regard to the prostate cancer detection rate (PCDR). Between July 1999 and June 2012, 2,707 patients were recruited to the Department of Urology, The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University (Nanjing, China). Prostate biopsies were performed via systematic 12- or 13-core biopsy and guided by either TRUS or MRI. The PCDR was established by retrospectively analyzing the distribution of positive cores, and it was assumed that all patients had undergone four biopsy schemes: Medial 6-core, lateral 6-core, 12-core and entire 13-core. In addition, the positive rate of the biopsies with the extra 13th core and the mean positive rate of systematic 12-core biopsies were compared. The PCDR of an entire 13-core biopsy was significantly higher than that of a lateral 6-core biopsy. The positive rate of the extra 13th core, which identified abnormal TRUS or MRI findings, was significantly higher when compared with that of the mean positive rate of the systematic 12-core biopsy. The results of the present study demonstrated that the entire 13-core biopsy was superior to the 6-core biopsy with regard to the PCDR. Therefore, the systematic 12-core biopsy with an extra 13th core is considered to be beneficial towards improving the PCDR.

Abstract
Sulfotransferase isoform 1A1 (SULT1A1) is a member of the sulfotransferase family that plays an important role in the biotransformation of numerous carcinogenic and mutagenic compounds through sulfation. A number of case-control studies were conducted to investigate the association between the Arg213His polymorphism in SULT1A1 and the risk of urothelial carcinoma (UC) in humans. However, the results were inconsistent. A meta-analysis based on 10 case-control studies was performed to address this issue. Crude odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to estimate the strength of this association. Between-study heterogeneity was assessed with the Chi-square-based Q test. Overall, a possibly decreased risk of UC was associated with the SULT1A1 A/A polymorphism for the heterozygote model (OR=0.86, 95% CI: 0.76-0.98, P=0.471). In the subgroup analysis by cancer type, the results indicated that individuals with the G/G genotype had a significantly higher bladder cancer (BC) risk (GA vs. GG: OR=0.88, 95% CI: 0.74-0.99, P=0.626; GA/AA vs. GG: OR=0.85, 95% CI: 0.74-0.97, P=0.504), which was contrary to the results of the upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) group (AA vs. GG: OR=2.18, 95% CI: 1.28-3.69; AA vs. GA/GG OR=2.05, 95% CI: 1.24-3.38). In addition, stratification by smoking status demonstrated that the Arg213His polymorphism was associated with a decreased risk of UC in non-smokers (OR=0.70, 95% CI: 0.53-0.92) but not in smokers (OR=0.85, 95% CI: 0.70-1.03) under the dominant model. In conclusion, this meta-analysis demonstrated a significant association between the SULT1A1 Arg213His polymorphism and BC. However, there was insufficient evidence to support a consistent association between this polymorphism and UC, partly due to the differences between BC and UTUC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe the feasibility of retroperitoneal laparoscopic reimplantation of the left renal vein (LRV) for nutcracker syndrome (NCS). PATIENTS AND METHODS Two patients with NCS underwent the surgery. Both patients complained of gross hematuria and flank discomfort that could not be relieved by resting. They were placed in a supine position and 5 ports were placed in the right abdominal wall. The procedures were performed with a retroperitoneal approach. The LRV was transected and then reimplanted into the distal inferior vena cava. RESULTS The procedures were performed successfully without any major complications. The total operation time was 105 and 120 min, respectively. Hematuria and flank discomfort were resolved after the surgery. Ultrasonography revealed a patent lumen without compression. CONCLUSIONS Retroperitoneal laparoscopic reimplantation of the LRV appears to be a feasible procedure with satisfactory short-term outcomes.

Abstract
Erythropoietin (EPO) is a circulating glycosylated protein hormone and has been implicated in the development and progression of non-hematopoietic tissue tumors. The objective of the present study was to determine if the EPO rs576236 polymorphism was associated with the risk of adrenal tumors. We genotyped the EPO rs576236 polymorphism in a case-control study of 288 adrenal tumor patients and 456 cancer-free controls by using the TaqMan method, and assessed the association between the polymorphism and the adrenal tumor risk by logistic regression. Furthermore, 95% confidence interval (CI) was used to assess the genetic association between the polymorphism and the risk of adrenal tumor. Compared with the TT genotype, the TC genotype had a significantly increased risk of adrenal tumor [adjusted odds ratio (OR) = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.12–2.22]. Furthermore a significantly increased risk of adrenal tumor was found in the combined variant genotypes TC+CC compared with the TT genotype (adjusted OR = 1.17, 95% CI = 1.12–2.21). Our present study suggests that the rs576236 polymorphism of EPO confers susceptibility to adrenal tumor in the Chinese population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Galectins (gals), a growing family of β-galactoside-binding animal lectins, have been implicated in a variety of biological processes including fibrosis, angiogenesis, and immune activation, all of which are involved in hemodialysis (HD) and renal transplantation (RTx). In this study, we aimed to investigate serum gal levels in HD and RTx recipients. DESIGN AND METHODS 41 normal subjects, 41 RTx recipients and 32 HD patients were recruited for this study. RTx recipients were evaluated before transplantation as well as 3 months afterwards. Serum gals-1, 2, 3, 4, 8, and 9 were measured both at baseline and 3 months later in each group. RESULTS At baseline, there were no differences in gals-1, 2, 3, 4, 8, and 9 between the RTx and HD groups. However, the levels of gals-1, 2, 3, 8, and 9 in the RTx and HD groups were higher than that of normal subjects. In paired analyses, gals-1, 2, and 3 were significantly decreased in RTx patients (P<0.0001) at 3 months, while there was no change in the HD group. However, levels of gals-4, 8, and 9 did not significantly change in either the HD or RTx group. CONCLUSION Gal-1, 2, and 3 levels were high in maintenance HD patients. Kidney transplantation improved gal-1, 2, and 3 levels.

Abstract
Thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) is a glycoprotein that plays a major role in bladder cancer. We investigated the relationship between the distribution of the TSP-1 -696 C/T polymorphism (rs2664139) and the clinical features of bladder cancer. TaqMan assay was used to determine the genotype among the 609 cases and 670 controls in a Chinese population. Logistic regression was used to assess the association between the polymorphism and bladder cancer risk. Compared with the CT/TT genotypes, the CC genotype was associated with a significantly increased risk of bladder cancer (adjusted odds ratio [OR] 1.43, 95% CI 1.01-2.04), which was more prominent among the male participants (OR 1.82, 95% CI 1.20-2.76). The polymorphism was associated with a higher risk of developing grade 3 (OR 1.84, 95% CI 1.00-3.36), multiple-tumor (OR 1.81, 95% CI 1.08-3.02), and large-tumor (OR 1.94, 95% CI 1.22-3.10) bladder cancers. These observations suggest that the TSP-1 -696 C/T polymorphism may contribute to bladder cancer susceptibility in the Chinese population.

Abstract
Background Recent large-scale transcriptome analyses have found large numbers of transcripts, including that of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), which are aberrant in various diseases, especially cancers. However, it is not clear whether lncRNAs are involved specifically in renal cell carcinoma (RCC). We investigated the expression patterns of lncRNAs in five RCC tumor samples (T) relative to those of matched adjacent non-tumor tissues (N) via microarray. Methods A microarray with 33,045 lncRNA probes and 30,215 mRNA probes was used to identify deregulated lncRNAs in five RCC patients. Furthermore, we confirmed the relative expression levels of AK096725 and ENST00000453068 in 70 paired samples by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Results The lncRNA microarray revealed 27,279 lncRNAs in RCC samples, of which 480 were significantly upregulated (P<0.05; T/N>1.5) and 417 were significantly downregulated (P<0.05; N/T>1.5) compared with the matched non-tumor samples. In addition, 19,995 mRNAs were detected, of which 458 were significantly upregulated (P<0.05; T/N>1.5) and 413 were significantly downregulated (P<0.05; N/T>1.5). The expression level changes of AK096725 (P = 0.043) and ENST00000453068 (P<0.001) in 70 paired samples were in accord with the microarray data. Conclusions The study uncovered expression patterns of lncRNAs in 5 RCC patients, as well as a number of aberrant lncRNAs and mRNAs in tumor samples compared with the non-tumor tissues. The revelation of an association between AK096725 expression and RCC is especially noteworthy. These findings may help to find new biomarkers in RCC.

Abstract
Tertiary lymphoid organs emerge in tissues in response to nonresolving inflammation. Recent research characterized artery tertiary lymphoid organs in the aorta adventitia of aged apolipoprotein E–deficient mice. The atherosclerosis-associated lymphocyte aggregates are organized into distinct compartments, including separate T-cell areas harboring conventional, monocyte-derived, lymphoid, and plasmacytoid dendritic cells, as well as activated T-cell effectors and memory cells; B-cell follicles containing follicular dendritic cells in activated germinal centers; and peripheral niches of plasma cells. Artery tertiary lymphoid organs show marked neoangiogenesis, aberrant lymphangiogenesis, and extensive induction of high endothelial venules. Moreover, newly formed lymph node–like conduits connect the external lamina with high endothelial venules in T-cell areas and also extend into germinal centers. Mouse artery tertiary lymphoid organs recruit large numbers of naïve T cells and harbor lymphocyte subsets with opposing activities, including CD4

These data suggest that artery tertiary lymphoid organs participate in primary immune responses and organize T- and B-cell autoimmune responses in advanced atherosclerosis. In this review, we discuss the novel concept that pro- and antiatherogenic immune responses toward unknown arterial wall–derived autoantigens may be organized by artery tertiary lymphoid organs and that disruption of the balance between pro- and antiatherogenic immune cell subsets may trigger clinically overt atherosclerosis.

Abstract
Background We aimed to evaluate the feasibility and clinical significance of using a modified liver-mobilization technique to treat renal cell carcinoma (RCC) combined with intrahepatic inferior vena cava (IVC) thrombosis. Methods A total of 11 level III thrombus patients underwent radical nephrectomy with resection of the tumor thrombus from intrahepatic IVC. A father clamp was used in combination with hepatic portal blocking to control the IVC. Results The intraoperative mortality and postoperative complications were reduced in 11 cases of RCC with intrahepatic IVC thrombosis. The mean blood loss was 800 mL, and mean patient hospital stay was 13 days. Follow-up was conducted for one to four months, with only two cases of recurrence recorded. Conclusions The proposed modified liver-mobilization technique could safely and effectively treat RCC and reduce intrahepatic IVC thrombosis.

Abstract
Recent genome-wide association studies have identified 14 genetic variants associated with bladder cancer in Caucasians. The effects of these risk variants and their cumulative effects in Asian populations are unknown. We genotyped these newly identified variants in a case-control study of 1,050 patients diagnosed with bladder cancer and 1,404 controls in the Chinese population. Odds rations (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were computed by logistic regression, and cumulative effect of risk alleles were evaluated. Overall, seven of the 14 variants were significantly associated with bladder cancer risk (p = 9.763 × 10(-3) for rs9642880 at 8q24.21, p = 3.004 × 10(-3) for rs2294008 at 8q24.3, p = 0.012 for rs798766 at 4p16.3, p = 0.034 for rs1495741 at 8p22, p = 2.306 × 10(-4) for GSTM1, p = 8.507 × 10(-8) for rs17674580 at 18q12.3, p = 7.179 × 10(-4) for rs10936599 at 3q26.2) and the odds ratios (ORs) ranged from 1.13 to 1.65. Moreover, there were a significant increased risk for bladder cancer positively correlated numbers of risk alleles and smoking status (Ptrend = 7.060 × 10(-16) ). However, no allelic interaction effects on bladder cancer risk were observed between cumulative effects of variants and clinical characteristics. These findings suggest that seven bladder cancer risk-associated variants (rs9642880, rs2294008, rs798766, rs1495741, GSTM1 null, rs17674580 and rs10936599) may be used, collectively, to effectively measure inherited risk for bladder cancer.
