Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effects of Twist1 on the drug resistance of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) cells through the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. K562 and KCL-22 cells were modeled for imatinib resistance, so as to analyze the effects of inhibiting Twist1 and the pathway on the therapeutic effect of imatinib on imatinib-resistant CML cells, and to find the mechanism of action of Twist1 on affecting the resistance. After the CML cells were successfully resistant to imatinib, Twist1 expression increased again in the cells and the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway was further activated. After the silence of the Twist1 expression, the imatinib-resistant CML cells were more sensitive to imatinib, and the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway was inhibited, and the expression level of p-AKT protein significantly reduced. According to further experiments, imatinib enhanced its inhibitory effect on the growth of the imatinib-resistant CML cells after the activation of the pathway was inhibited by an LY3023414 inhibitor. In conclusion, Twist1 and the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway are over-activated during the formation of the CML cells resistant to imatinib. The silence of Twist1 can reverse the resistance through the pathway.

Abstract
The development of biomimetic nanoparticles with functionalities of natural biomaterial remains a major challenge in cancer combination therapy. Herein, we developed a tumor-cell-derived exosome-camouflaged porous silicon nanoparticles (E-MSNs) as a drug delivery system for co-loading ICG and DOX (ID@E-MSNs), achieving the synergistic effects of chemotherapy and photothermal therapy against breast cancer. Compared with ID@MSNs, the biomimetic nanoparticles ID@E-MSNs can be effectively taken up by the tumor cell and enhance tumor accumulation with the help of the exosome membrane. ID@E-MSNs also retain the photothermal effect of ICG and cytotoxicity of DOX. Under 808 nm near infrared irradiation, ICG can produce hyperthermia to collapse E-MSNs nanovehicles, accelerate drug release, and induce tumor ablation, achieving effective chemo-photothermal therapy. In vivo results of 4T1 tumor-bearing BALB/c mice showed that ID@E-MSNs could accumulate tumor tissue and inhibit the growth and metastasis of tumor. Thus, tumor exosome-biomimetic nanoparticles indicate a proof-of-concept as a promising drug delivery system for efficient cancer combination therapy.

Abstract
The abundance of bacterial effectors have inspired us to explore their potential in rewiring malignant cell signaling. Their incapability for entering cells, however, hinders such application. Herein we developed a cationic lipid-based high throughput library screening platform for effective intracellular delivery of bacterial effectors. As the misregulated MAPK signaling is a hallmark of many types of cancer, we turned to the Shigella effector OspF which irreversibly inactivates ERK, the terminal component of MAPK cascade. We created a function-based screening assay to obtain AMPA-O16B lipid nanoparticles for effective OspF intracellular delivery, which inhibited the malignant MAPK signaling and tumor growth in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, the optimized lipid nanoparticle formulation can deliver OspF to modulate the immunosuppressive responses in macrophages. Our work is a general strategy to explore the therapeutic potentials of naturally evolved bacterial effectors.

Abstract
With the ban of conventional cigarettes from public spaces, electronic cigarette (E-cig) liquids have emerged as a nicotine replacement treatment for smoking cessation. However, consumers possess little knowledge of the ingredients and health effects of E-cig liquids following exposure. This study evaluated hair cell damage and developmental toxicities following gestational exposure to E-cig liquids. Zebrafish embryos were exposed to E-cig liquids at different concentrations (0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.4%). Embryonic developmental toxicity and hair cell damage was evaluated at 6 and 7 d, respectively, after fertilization. The average number of hair cells in the anterior lateral line (ALL) and posterior lateral line (PLL) following E-cig exposure was compared to that of the control. Morphological abnormalities and heart rate were evaluated. E-cig liquids significantly damaged the hair cells in the ALL, compared to the control (control; 52.85 ± 5.29 cells, 0.1% E-cig; 49.43 ± 7.70 cells, 0.2% E-cig; 40.68 ± 12.00 cells, 0.4% E-cig; 32.14 ± 20.75%; n = 29-40; p < 0.01). At high concentrations, E-cig liquids significantly damaged the hair cells in the PLL (control; 36.88 ± 5.43 cells, 0.1% E-cig; 33.06 ± 5.21 cells, 0.2% E-cig; 30.95 ± 8.03 cells, 0.4% E-cig; 23.72 ± 15.53%, n = 29-40; p < 0.01). No morphological abnormalities in body shape, somites, notochord, tail, and pectoral fin were observed; however, abnormalities were observed in the dorsal fin and heart rate at high concentrations. Thus, gestational exposure to E-cigs significantly damaged hair cells in a concentration-dependent manner and induced developmental toxicities to the dorsal fin and heart rate at high concentrations.

Abstract
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have received extensive attention because of their potential as biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and monitoring, and their effective detection is very significant. Here, a specific, one-pot, rapid, femtomolar sensitive miRNAs detection biosensor was developed based on the target-triggered three-way junction (3-WJ) and terminal deoxynucleotide transferase (TDT)/Nt.BspQI in combination with activated copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) self-assembly. To this end, a 3-WJ hairpin probe and helper probe were designed to selectively identify the target miRNA, so as to form a stable 3-WJ structure that further triggered the double-enzyme cycling to produce poly T to activate the self-assembly of CuNPs. Based on the simplicity of CuNPs generation, the poly T template fluorescence CuNPs can detect the minimum detection limit of 1 fm within 1.75 h. In addition, the applicability of this method in complex samples was demonstrated by analyzing the whole-blood RNA extraction from Parkinson patients, consisting of the results of commercial miRNA kits. The developed strategy performs powerful implications for miRNA detection, which may be beneficial for the effective diagnostic assays and biological research of Parkinson's disease.

Abstract
Sensitive and portable quantification of biomarkers has particular significance in the monitoring and treatment of clinical diseases. Conventional immunoassays were accustomed to introducing or incorporating enzymes for signal amplification, which commonly suffered from poor stability and inferior tolerance. Herein, we constructed a novel nonenzyme amplification methodology based on fluorogenic Ag+-tetrazolate aggregation coupled with silver corrosion sensitization for biomarker determination. A significant cascade enhancement strategy was achieved by the valid aggregation luminescence caused by the potent disintegration of silver nanoparticles. Furthermore, efficient magnetic separation was also combined and performed for the rapidity and simplicity of operation. As the target, the detection limit of prostate-specific antigen was 15.66 pg/mL in our designed biosensor. Besides, a good linear relationship was obtained. The designed biosensor demonstrated good specificity and was successfully applied to clinical serum sample detection.

Abstract
The development of lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) is restricted by their poor cycle stability and rate performance due to the low conductivity of sulfur and severe shuttle effect. Herein, an N, O co-doped graphene layered block (NOGB) with many dents on the graphene sheets is designed as effective sulfur host for high-performance LSBs. The sulfur platelets are physically confined into the dents and closely contacted with the graphene scaffold, ensuring structural stability and high conductivity. The highly doped N and O atoms can prevent the shuttle effect of sulfur species by strong chemical adsorption. Moreover, the micropores on the graphene sheets enable fast Li+ transport through the blocks. As a result, the obtained NOGB/S composite with 76 wt% sulfur content shows a high capacity of 1413 mAh g-1 at 0.1 C, good rate performance of 433 mAh g-1 at 10 C, and remarkable stability with 526 mAh g-1 at after 1000 cycles at 1 C (average decay rate: 0.038% per cycle). Our design provides a comprehensive route for simultaneously improving the conductivity, ion transport kinetics, and preventing the shuttle effect in LSBs.

Abstract
In pigs, luteolytic sensitivity to PGF-2α (=LS) is delayed until d 13 of the estrous cycle. While the control of LS is unknown, it is temporally associated with macrophage (MAC; which secretes tumor necrosis factor [TNF]-α) infiltration into the corpora lutea (CL), and previous studies have shown that TNF-α induces LS in porcine luteal cells (LCs) in culture. This study was designed to explore the control of LS by CL macrophage (CL MAC)/TNF-α by progesterone (P4), and to examine the hypothesis that P4 acting via the genomic P4 receptor (PGR) inhibits CL MAC TNF-α and thus plays a key role in regulating LS during the pig estrous cycle. In experiment 1, the effects of LCs on CL MAC cytokine/TNF-α mRNA expression in co-culture were examined (MID cycle; ~d 7-12; no LS); results showed that LC was inhibitory to cytokine/TNF-α. In experiment 2, the effects of P4 or R5020 (PGR-agonist) on CL MAC cytokine/TNF-α mRNA expression were examined (MID cycle; ~d 7-12; no LS); results showed that both P4 and R5020 dose-dependently inhibited TNF-α. In experiment 3, CL MACs were isolated from CL at MID (~d 7-12; no LS) and LATE (~d 13-18; + LS) cycle, and TNF-α/PGR mRNA measured. Results indicated that while TNF-α mRNA was 4.2-fold greater in CL MACs from LATE vs MID cycle, PGR mRNA was 4.5-fold greater in CL MACs from MID vs LATE cycle. These data support our hypothesis and suggest that progesterone, acting via PGR, plays a critical physiological role in the control of TNF-α production by CL MACs and LS during the pig estrous cycle.

Abstract
Background:Gout is the most prevalent inflammatory arthritis globally. Despite treatment advances, the prevalence of gout has continued to increase over the last several decades. There has also been increasing evidence that gout has a strong association with the metabolic syndrome. This indicates that gout is likely both an inflammatory and a metabolic disease that has a significant effect on quality of life and healthcare costs. Although current recommendations support aggressive medical therapy for gout treatment, dietary counseling is less emphasized. We hypothesize that emphasis on this nonpharmacological therapy will likely improve management and the metabolic syndrome in gout patients.Objectives:To analyze the effectiveness of dietary counseling on gout management and risk factors for metabolic syndrome in gout patients at the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Long Beach, CA (VALB).Methods:A retrospective cohort study was created from 2009-2016 involving Long Beach Veterans Affairs Hospital gout patients (n= 119) based on International Classification of Disease version 9 or 10. Patients were then stratified into two cohorts: received diet counseling (n=90) and no diet counseling (n=29). Data was reviewed for 24 months following initial gout diagnosis or intervention. Management was evaluated based on frequency of flares and related ED visits, change in creatinine clearance, serum uric acid levels (sUA), and changes to risk factors for metabolic syndrome including blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), cholesterol panel and hemoglobin A1c levels at six-month intervals.Results:Although patients in both cohorts were noted to have decreased number of gout attacks, patients who received diet counseling had a significant decrease in number of gout attacks by month 12 (0=0.004). In addition, after 6 months, patients who received diet counseling were more likely to have sUA at goal (sUA<6 for nontophaeous gout and sUA<5 for tophaceous gout) (p=0.003). These patients were also noted to have improved creatinine clearance (p=0.08) and increased HDL (p =0.08). In addition, patients with improved HDL and LDL values more likely to have improved sUA levels and decreased ED visits (R2=0.4, slope 0.14 and R2=0.4, slope 0.05, respectively) by month 6. Patients with improved hemoglobin A1c levels were also noted to have a significant outcome in lowering serum uric acid level at month 18 (R2=0.9, slope 2.6).Conclusion:Gout patients who receive diet counseling had lower rate of future attacks and better control of sUA. In addition, these gout patients were also noted to have improvement in some risk factors associated with the metabolic syndrome. Notably, patients who had better control of their hemoglobin A1c levels were able to have lower serum uric acid levels. This may imply that controlling diabetes in patients may also help improve gout management. Adherence for the gold standard Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is poor worldwide. Studies have explored factors impacting CPAP adherence but data is limited for Asian patients where cultural and social norms differ. This study aimed to examine the role of disease and treatment-related perceptions in short-term CPAP adherence among patients from a multi-ethnic Southeast Asian country.
Methods
34 patients with newly diagnosed OSA were recruited from Changi General Hospital, a 1000-bed tertiary hospital in Singapore between September 2018 and February 2019. Psychological factors of self-efficacy, risk-perception and outcome expectancies were assessed with the Self-Efficacy Measure for Sleep Apnea (SEMSA) questionnaire. The SEMSA questionnaire has been previously validated for the evaluation of adherence-related cognitions. Patients were administered the SEMSA questionnaire before commencement of CPAP treatment and 1 month after.
Results
73.5% (25/34) of the patients were male (82.4% Chinese, 11.8% Malays, 2.9% Indians, 2.9% others). Mean age was 43.3 ± 11.8 years, mean apnea hypopnea index (AHI) was 45.2 ± 29.6 events/hr and mean CPAP usage at one month was 3.6±2.0 hours. 47% were adherent to CPAP, defined as average device use > 4 hrs/day. Pre-treatment self-efficacy was significantly correlated with CPAP adherence (r = 0.498, P<0.01). Outcome expectancies and self-efficacy measured after one-month CPAP use were significantly correlated with CPAP adherence (r = 0.702, P<0.01; r = 0.467, P<0.01, respectively). However, no association between risk perception and CPAP adherence was noted at either time points.
Conclusion
Consistent with previous literature in Western population, our study demonstrated that patients’ cognitive perceptions of outcome expectancies and sense of self-efficacy have an impact on CPAP adherence in a Southeast Asian population. Strategies targeting these aspects would be important in designing patient education programs.

Abstract
Integration of multi-functional diagnosis and treatment competencies can improve effect of the drug and its visual distribution to the location of tumor focus site, and play a pivotal role by visualizing the tumor size in the assessment of chemotherapy. With the objective of developing integrated multi-therapeutic and diagnostic agent that could target the kinase receptor with high expression in tumor cells, herein, a biologically releasable drug-drug conjugate compound 9 with dual therapeutic and diagnostic effects was designed, synthesized and evaluated for pharmacodynamics and diagnostic functions in vitro and in vivo. The results of antitumor effects evaluations and compound 9 visual imaging indicated that compound 9 not only improved the anti-proliferative activity of chemotherapy and photodynamic treatment (PDT) in vitro and in vivo compared with those of compound 8 and PpIX but also allowed the photodynamic diagnosis (PDD). The present study verified a facile and effective strategy using a drug-drug conjugate to integrate diagnosis and multi-therapies, showing its potential a candidate clinical drug.

Abstract
In all health care settings, particularly those in developing countries, healthcare workers have a high risk for exposure to tuberculosis. Tuberculosis can involve any organ, including the skin. Cutaneous tuberculosis is uncommon and may be secondary to an exogenous inoculation. We report the case of a surgical resident at a tertiary care hospital in Lima, Peru who developed cutaneous inoculation tuberculosis after sustaining a needlestick injury while performing a diagnostic cervical lymph node aspiration from a patient with HIV infection and tuberculous cervical lymphadenopathy.

Abstract
We use resonant inelastic x-ray scattering to investigate charge-stripe correlations in La_{1.675}Eu_{0.2}Sr_{0.125}CuO_{4}. By differentiating elastic from inelastic scattering, it is demonstrated that charge-stripe correlations precede both the structural low-temperature tetragonal phase and the transport-defined pseudogap onset. The scattering peak amplitude from charge stripes decays approximately as T^{-2} towards our detection limit. The in-plane integrated intensity, however, remains roughly temperature independent. Therefore, although the incommensurability shows a remarkably large increase at high temperature, our results are interpreted via a single scattering constituent. In fact, direct comparison to other stripe-ordered compounds (La_{1.875}Ba_{0.125}CuO_{4}, La_{1.475}Nd_{0.4}Sr_{0.125}CuO_{4}, and La_{1.875}Sr_{0.125}CuO_{4}) suggests a roughly constant integrated scattering intensity across all these compounds. Our results therefore provide a unifying picture for the charge-stripe ordering in La-based cuprates. As charge correlations in La_{1.675}Eu_{0.2}Sr_{0.125}CuO_{4} extend beyond the low-temperature tetragonal and pseudogap phase, their emergence heralds a spontaneous symmetry breaking in this compound.

Abstract
Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is a highly aggressive tumor with a poor prognosis and a low median survival rate because of insufficient effective therapeutic modalities. Recently, mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) as a green non-toxic and safe nanomaterial have shown advantages to be a drug carrier and to modify the targeting group to the targeted therapy. To aim of the study was to explore the effects of MSNs co-loading with 17-allylamino-17-demethoxy-geldanamycin (17-AAG; HSP90 inhibitor) and 9-(6-aminopyridin-3-yl)-1-(3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)benzo[h][1,6]naphthyridin-2(1H)-one (Torin2; mTOR inhibitor) by targeting vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) on the viability of human anaplastic thyroid carcinoma FRO cells. The cytotoxicity of 17-AAG and Torin2 were analyzed by MTT assay. The possible synergistic antitumor effects between 17-AAG and Torin2 were evaluated by CompuSyn software. Flow cytometry was performed to assess the VEGFR2 targeting of (17-AAG+Torin2)@MSNs-anti-VEGFR2 ab and uptake by FRO cells. An ATC xenograft mouse model was established to assess the antitumor effect of (17-AAG+Torin2)@MSNs-anti-VEGFR2 ab in vivo. The results revealed that the combination of 17-AAG and Torin2 inhibited the growth of FRO cells more effectively compared with single use of these agents. Additionally, the synergistic antitumor effect appeared when concentration ratio of the two drugs was 1:1 along with total drug concentration greater than 0.52 µM. Furthermore, in an ATC animal model, it was revealed that the (17-AAG+Torin2)@MSNs-anti-VEGFR2 ab therapy modality could most effectively prolong the median survival time [39.5 days vs. 33.0 days (non-targeted) or 27.5 days (control)]. Compared to (17-AAG+Torin2)@MSNs, the (17-AAG+Torin2)@MSNs-anti-VEGFR2 ab could not only inhibit ATC cell growth but also prolong the median survival time of tumor-bearing mice in vivo and vitro more effectively, which may provide a new promising therapy for ATC.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Few studies have explored the association of oral bisphosphonate exposure and gastrointestinal cancer within Asian populations. In this study, we investigated 45,397 Korean women from the nationwide population-based cohort from 2002 to 2013. Oral bisphosphonate exposure did not appear to be associated with elevated or reduced risk for gastrointestinal cancer. INTRODUCTION While several studies suggested increased risk in upper gastrointestinal (GI) cancer or reduced risk in colorectal cancer upon bisphosphonate exposure, the association is less explored within Asian populations. We investigated the effect of oral bisphosphonate exposure on the risk of GI cancers within a nationwide population-based cohort. METHODS This study used two separate cohorts. The first cohort included 45,397 women aged 60 years or older from the National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening Cohort during 2002-2013. Participants were classified into bisphosphonate users and non-users based on drug exposure during 2002-2007, and followed-up from the index date of January 1, 2008. The second cohort included 25,665 newly diagnosed osteoporosis patients who started taking oral bisphosphonate during 2003-2008. After 4 years of drug exposure period, patients were separated into quartiles based on cumulative oral bisphosphonate exposure. Participants were followed-up until December 31, 2013 for GI cancer, stomach cancer, and colorectal cancer. Cox proportional hazard regression models were used to assess the hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the cancer risks. RESULTS Compared to bisphosphonate non-users, no significant risk difference was observed among bisphosphonate users on GI (HR 1.06; 95% CI 0.87-1.28), stomach (HR 1.11; 95% CI 0.85-1.47) and colorectal cancers (HR 1.04; 95% CI 0.79-1.37). Among bisphosphonate users, increasing doses of bisphosphonate exposure was not associated with elevated or reduced risk for GI cancer (p for trend 0.573). CONCLUSION Oral bisphosphonate use did not appear to be associated with elevated or reduced risk for GI cancers.

Abstract
Hypoxia not only alters tumor microenvironment but leads to the tumor progression and metastasis as well as drug resistance. As a promising strategy, photodynamic therapy (PDT) can inhibit tumor by catalyzing O2 to cytotoxic reactive oxygen species. However, its effects were limited by hypoxia and in turn deteriorate hypoxia due to O2 consumption. Hereon, aiming to alleviate hypoxia and promote PDT, a bio-oxygen pump was created based on cyanobacteria, which are the only prokaryotic organisms performing oxygenic photosynthesis. Detailly, controlled-release PDT via loading indocyanine green into mesoporous silica nanoparticles was established. Then bio-oxygen pump based on a fast-growing cyanobacterium Synechococcus elongatus UTEX 2973 was tested and further packaged together with PDT to create an injectable hydrogel. The packaged hydrogel showed stable oxygen production and synergetic therapy effect especially toward hypoxia 4T1 cells in vitro. More importantly, strong in vivo therapeutic effect reaching almost 100% inhibition on tumor tissues was realized using PDT equipped with oxygen pump, with only negligible in vivo side effect on healthy mice from S. elongatus UTEX 2973. The new photo-oxygen-dynamic therapy presented here provided a promising strategy against hypoxia-resistant tumor and may worth further modifications for therapeutic application.

Abstract
Wearable strain sensors are emerging rapidly for their promising applications in human motion detection for diagnosis, healthcare, training instruction, and rehabilitation exercise assessment. However, it remains a bottleneck in gaining comfortable and breathable devices with the features of high sensitivity, linear response, and tunable detection range. Textiles possess fascinating advantages of good breathability, aesthetic property, tailorability, and excellent mechanical compliance to conformably attach to human body. As the meandering loops in a textile can be extended in different directions, it provides plenty of room for exploring ideal sensors by tuning a twisting structure with rationally selected yarn materials. Herein, textile sensors with twisting architecture are designed via a solution-based process by using a stable water-based conductive ink that is composed of polypyrrole/polyvinyl alcohol nanoparticles with a mean diameter of 50 nm. Depending on the predesigned twisting models, the thus-fabricated textile sensors show adjustable performances, exhibiting a high sensitivity of 38.9 with good linearity and a broad detection range of 200%. Such sensors can be integrated into fabrics and conformably attached to skin for monitoring subtle (facial expressions, breathing, and speaking) and large (stretching, jumping, running and jogging, and sign language) human motions. As a proof-of-concept application, by integrating with a wireless transmitter, the signals detected by our sensors during exercise (e.g., running) can be remotely received and displayed on a smartphone. It is believed that the integration of our textile sensors with selected twisting models into a cloth promises full-range motion detection for wearable electronics and human-machine interfaces.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine whether the morphology of proximal tibiofibular joint (PTFJ) is associated with increased risk of incident radiographic osteoarthritis (iROA) over 4 years in the OA Initiative (OAI) study. METHODS A nested matched case-control study design was used to select participants from OAI study. Case knees were defined as those with iROA. Control knees were matched one-to-one by sex, age and radiographic status with case knees. T2-weighted MR images were assessed at P0 (the visit when incident ROA was found on radiograph), P1 (1 year prior to P0) and at OAI baseline. The contacting area of PTFJ (S) and its projection areas onto the horizontal (load-bearing area, Sτ), sagittal (lateral stress-bolstering area, Sφ) and coronal plane (posterior stress-bolstering area, Sυ) were assessed, respectively. RESULTS 354 case knees and 354 matched control knees were included, with a mean age of 60 and a mean body mass index (BMI) of 28 kg/m2. Baseline PTFJ morphological parameters (S, Sτ and Sυ) were significantly associated with iROA over 4 years, and these associations remained unchanged after adjustment for BMI, number of knee bending activities, self-reported knee injury and surgery. S, Sτ and Sυ were also significantly associated with iROA at P1 and P0. In subgroup analysed, S, Sτ and Sυ were associated with risks of incident joint space narrowing in the medial, but not the lateral tibiofemoral compartment. CONCLUSION Greater contacting area, load-bearing area and posterior stress-bolstering area of PTFJ were associated with increased risks of iROA, largely in the medial tibiofemoral compartment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To determine the prevalence of dorsal cervical spinal compression in a population of dogs susceptible to caudal occipital dysplasia. To determine whether endotracheal tube ties iatrogenically alter the dorsal compression ratio in the atlantoaxial region. MATERIALS AND METHODS Prospective, randomised, controlled, cross-over, blinded cohort study of dogs weighing <15 kg and presenting for neurologic signs localised to the cervical region. In mid-sagittal T2-weighted MR images, dorsal cervical compression and cerebellar compression were evaluated. Dorsal cervical compression ratios were calculated and compared to determine the effect of the endotracheal tube tie on the atlantoaxial region depending on whether dogs were in extended or flexed neck position. RESULTS Prevalence of dorsal cervical spinal compression consistent with an atlantoaxial band was 32/44 (73%) dogs without tie pressure and 37/44 (84%) dogs with tie pressure. Significantly higher compression ratios were found with tie placement over the craniocervical region. Dorsal compression ratios of dogs with cerebellar compression were significantly greater than those without it. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The location of the endotracheal tube tie can influence interpretation of MR images of the craniocervical region of small breed dogs. These breeds more often had greater dorsal cervical spinal compression with tie pressure, especially when they had cerebellar compression.

Abstract
Multiple methods of grafting graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets to natural clinoptilolite-rich zeolite particles were developed in our laboratory. In this study, we have systematically characterized the GO coated particles prepared by various methods to select the most promising method for further research efforts. This study revealed that the most promising coating method was the clean-acid-treated zeolite particles followed by deposition of GO nanosheets onto the zeolite surface and mild thermal treatment of the particles. GO and its synergistic interaction in zeolite was attributed to electrostatic interactions, hydrophobic interactions and hydrogen bonds. Hydrophobic interactions are enhanced both due to dealumination of zeolite caused by the cleaning method followed by acid treatment and due to partial thermal deoxygenation of GO. This method provided a ten times larger surface area (from 10.55 m2 g−1 to 117.96 m2 g−1) and three times smaller pore diameter (from 81.91 Å to 30.68 Å), providing great particles for a variety of applications as adsorbents or catalysts. Abstract
In the past decade, superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs) have gradually become an indispensable part of any demanding quantum optics experiment. Until now, most SNSPDs have been coupled to single-mode fibers. SNSPDs coupled to multimode fibers have shown promising efficiencies but have yet to achieve high time resolution. For a number of applications ranging from quantum nano-photonics to bio-optics, high efficiency and high time resolution are desired at the same time. In this paper, we demonstrate the role of polarization on the efficiency of multimode-fiber-coupled detectors and fabricated high-performance 20 µm, 25 µm, and 50 µm diameter detectors targeted for visible, near-infrared, and telecom wavelengths. A custom-built setup was used to simulate realistic experiments with randomized modes in the fiber. We achieved over 80% system efficiency and $ {\lt} {20}\;{\rm ps}$<20ps timing jitter for 20 µm SNSPDs. Also, we realized 70% system efficiency and $ {\lt} {20}\;{\rm ps}$<20ps timing jitter for 50 µm SNSPDs. The high-efficiency multimode-fiber-coupled SNSPDs with unparalleled time resolution will benefit various quantum optics experiments and applications in the future.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the expression of SOX11 in the patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) and explore the clinical values of SOX11 in MCL. PATIENTS AND METHODS In the paraffin-embedded MCL tissues of 75 patients diagnosed in the Department of Hematology, Shanxi Tumor Hospital, were performed the immunohistochemical labeling of Ki67 and SOX11 by the EnVision method. Meanwhile, the expression of SOX11 mRNA was also detected by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), and the association of SOX11 with such prognostic indexes as pathological typing, staging, immunophenotyping, and MIPI was analyzed using the statistical method. RESULTS The immunohistochemistry showed that 97% of cases expressed SOX11 positive, and the RT-PCR results showed that the expression of SOX11 mRNA in the MCL patients was significantly higher than those with reactive hyperplasia lymphoid [3.097 (1.311, 6.216) and 1.058 (0.302, 2.623, respectively (p<0.05). Higher expression of SOX11 mRNA was positively correlated with some good prognostic factors such as ECOG<2, no bone marrow involvement and low-risk according to the International Prognostic Index (IPI). The comparison of the survival curves between group SOX11 mRNA <M and SOX11 mRNA≥M showed the median survival in the former was shorter than that in the latter, which was 27 months and 50 months, respectively. There was a significant difference between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS The expression of SOX11 in MCL patients is significantly higher than normal controls, which can be used as a diagnostic index. Upregulated SOX11 may be a good prognostic factor in MCL patients.

Abstract
To create a more precise, efficient imaging and therapeutic strategy is a big challenge for the current treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Photothermal therapy (PTT) has attracted enormous attention due to its non-invasive property and precise spatial and temporal control. Here, we developed a strategy to realize superior imaging performance and treatment, utilizing an indocyanine green (ICG) and sorafenib (S) co-loaded mesoporous silica nanosystem for synergetic PTT/immuno-enhanced therapy. We proved that (ICG+S)@mSiO2 could be easily endocytosed by H22 cells, carried out outstanding real-time fluorescence imaging, and enhanced cytotoxicity abilities by near-infrared radiation (NIR) in vitro. Moreover, (ICG+S)@mSiO2 also had excellent fluorescence imaging ability, displayed a remarkable photothermal tumor killing effect and immune enhancement capability under 808 nm irradiation in an H22 tumor-bearing mice model, without apparent adverse effects in other organs. This study provides a new strategy for the development of a PTT/immuno-enhanced synergistic theranostic nanosystem of HCC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Goals of lower extremity microvascular reconstruction (LEMR) include the restoration of function, prevention of infection, and optimal cosmesis. Indications for LEMR include large defects that are not amenable to pedicled options, a large zone of injury, and large complex defects. The novice microsurgeon should first master a handful of free flaps to develop an armamentarium of options for addressing such defects. The scope of this review is to provide free flap options for LEMR in any of the thirds of the lower leg. After reading this article, the reader will understand variations, advantages, disadvantages, indications, and tips for raising each of these flaps. METHODS Six most commonly used free flaps for LEMR are described in this paper, including the anterolateral thigh flap (ALT) and its variations, the radial forearm flap (RFFF), the lateral arm flap (LAF), the gracilis muscle flap, the rectus abdominis flap (RAF) and the latissimus dorsi flap and its variations. Indications, advantages, disadvantages and technique tips are discussed for each flap. Moreover, selection of the recipient vessels, preoperative management along with an algorithm are also provided. CONCLUSIONS The ALT flap is a workhorse in covering defects of the leg, foot, and ankle. It's the flap of choice at our institution, especially given the number of traumatic wounds seen as a result of motor vehicles, all-terrain vehicles (ATV), lawnmowers, and gunshot wounds (GSW). At times, the lower extremity zone of injury requires a distant donor site. The RAF can also provide coverage for large soft tissue defects but donor-site morbidity remains its main drawback. The LAF and RFFF provide two pliable options, one that provides pliable soft tissue with minimal donor site morbidity and another that provides a long pedicle. The free gracilis flap is an excellent choice for crossing the ankle joint. Lastly, the free latissimus dorsi is indicated for large defects of the lower extremity independently of the location.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study compared the caregiver-perceived and dentist-determined oral health status of patients with intellectual disabilities to determine factors that affect caregiver-perception of patients' oral health. MATERIALS AND METHODS 297 patients [mean (SD) age = 51.9 (12.5) years] and 56 professional caregivers [42.1 (8.2) years] from three institutional facilities took part. Data were acquired via self-administered questionnaires by caregivers and oral examination by dentists. Oral hygiene condition, numbers of decayed and missing teeth, and periodontal disease reported by caregivers and dentists were compared using paired t-test and Pearson correlation. Demographic and dental factors of the patients and caregivers were analyzed using chi square and Fisher's exact tests. RESULTS Caregivers underestimated decayed and missing teeth compared to dentists (p⟨0.05). Oral hygiene condition and periodontal disease were similarly rated by the two groups. Tooth brushing, diet type, sex, and overall oral health status of the patients were associated with caregiver perception (p⟨0.05). Career length and time since caregivers last received dental care were also related factors (p⟨0.05). CONCLUSION Professional caregivers of adult patients with intellectual disabilities had different perceptions of oral health status based on patient and caregiver circumstances.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Diabetic nephropathy (DN) can cause chronic renal insufficiency and significantly reduce the life quality of patients with diabetes mellitus, and may eventually lead to death. The study investigated the expression of endoplasmic reticulum stress-related factors, which have important roles in the progress of DN and to explore effects of resveratrol on DN and the possible mechanism. MATERIALS AND METHODS Specific pathogen free (SPF) grade healthy male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were divided into different groups for different treatments. The diabetic rat model was established by intraperitoneal injection of low-dose streptozotocin (STZ) (40 mg/kg). The normal rats and diabetes model rats were divided into four groups including normal control group (N), normal control + resveratrol (N+R), model group (M), and model + resveratrol group (M+R) for different treatments. The changes of renal histology were observed by immunohistochemistry. Glucose oxidase/peroxidase method was used to measure FPG, UP 24 h content was measured by bicinchoninic acid (BCA) assay, BUN, Scr and Cys C content were measured by automatic biochemical analyzer. The expressions of 78 kDa glucose-regulated protein (GRP78), protein kinase RNA-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase (PERK), and activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4) and C/EBP-homologous protein (CHOP) were analyzed by Western blot. RESULTS Resveratrol treatment significantly reduced the fasting blood glucose level, urinary protein level and renal pathological damage. The phosphorylation of PERK in the kidney of rats with diabetes was up-regulated, while resveratrol treatment reduced this change. The expression of p- PERK, GRP78, ATF4, and CHOP was significantly increased in rats with diabetes, while resveratrol treatment can reduce the increased level of those endoplasmic reticulum stress related factors. CONCLUSIONS Resveratrol has a good therapeutic effect on DN in rats without side effect. The mechanism may be related to the regulation of endoplasmic reticulum stress response.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To examine the relationship between high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels and lung function in a community-based cohort of South Korea.DESIGN: The Ansung-Ansan cohort database (an ongoing prospective study of a community-based population) was
used in the analysis. We defined airway obstruction as the ratio between forced expiratory volume in 1 sec:forced vital capacity ratio (FEV1:FVC) of <95% of the predicted value for a healthy person. We also used the serum level of hs-CRP as a marker of inflammation. Multivariate
analysis was performed with adjustment for the clinical characteristics of the participants.RESULTS: A total of 5528 individuals were eligible for the study. The average age was 55.1 years, and 47.8% were males. The prevalence of airway obstruction was 9.0%, and the mean hs-CRP
level was 1.51 mg/dl. Serum hs-CRP levels increased with the severity of airway obstruction, and the latter worsened with an increase in the hs-CRP level. In multivariate analysis, as the hs-CRP level increased, FEV1 and FVC decreased. A higher FEV1:FVC ratio was associated
with lower hs-CRP levels in males.CONCLUSION: Higher hs-CRP levels were associated with decreased FEV1 and FVC in a general population of Korea. The FEV1:FVC ratio decreased with an increase in the hs-CRP level in males.

Abstract
SETTING: The Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey is a national, population-based, cross-sectional surveillance programme.OBJECTIVE: 1) To investigate the prevalence of spontaneously healed pulmonary tuberculosis (SHPTB) on chest radiographs (CXRs)
in South Korea, as well as its demographic and clinical associations, and 2) to determine the relationship between SHPTB and smoking.DESIGN: People with normal findings on CXRs (n = 24 190) and those with SHPTB (n = 1863) were compared in univariate, bivariate
and multivariate analyses with respect to smoking and demographic and clinical factors.RESULTS: The prevalence of SHPTB was 7.2%. The proportion of patients with SHPTB tended to be higher in males, people of older age, ever smokers, as well as people with low body mass index and
low education level. In bivariate analysis, after adjustments for age and sex, SHPTB was found more often among ex-smokers (P = 0.005) and current smokers (P = 0.024) than in non-smokers. Multivariate analyses revealed increased relative odds for SHPTB with increased age (P
< 0.001), male sex (P < 0.001) and ex-smoker status (P = 0.016). Passive smoking was also significantly associated with SHPTB (P = 0.022).CONCLUSION: In addition to increasing the risk of active TB and negatively affecting the outcome of TB treatment,
smoking is also associated with SHPTB, as detected on CXRs.
