Abstract
Abstract Objective To infer postmortem interval (PMI) based on spectral changes of the dorsal skin of rats within 15 days postmortem using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Methods The rats were sacrificed by cervical dislocation after anesthesia, and then placed at 25 ℃ and relative humidity of 50%. The FTIR spectral data collected from the dorsal skin at PMI points were modeled with machine learning technique. Results There was no significant difference of absorption peak location among all the PMI groups but their peak intensities changed as a function of PMIs. The model for PMI estimation was constructed using partial least squares (PLS) regression, reaching a R2 of 0.92 and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 1.30 d. As shown in variable importance for projection (VIP), four spectral bands including 1 760-1 700 cm-1, 1 660-1 640 cm-1, 1 580-1 540 cm-1 and 1 460-1 420 cm-1 were determined as important contributions to model prediction. Conclusion Application of the FTIR technique to detect postmortem spectral changes of the rat skin provides a novel proposal for PMI estimation.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the strong expression (S+) of P53 and BCL2 proteins in MYC/BCL2 double-expression DLBCL (DEL) and whether they can be used for the prognostic evaluation and stratified diagnosis of DELs. Methods: Tissue microarray were made by filed FFPE blocks of 174 DLBCL cases. The translocation of MYC, BCL2 and BCL6 genes were detected by FISH, and the proteins were detected by IHC. Data of clinicopathologic features and follow up of patients were collected and OS (overall survival) and PFS (progression free survival) were analyzed by statistics. Results: Eight double-hit lymphomas (DHLs) were identified in all cases, and 45 DELs were selected from 166 remaining cases, which have no significant difference in OS and PFS compared with non-DEL cases (P=0.668 and P=0.790) . Of 42 DEL-cases with follow up data, 24 cases with P53+ or/and BCL2 (S+) are significantly shorter OS and PFS than others (P=0.003 and P=0.000) , in which the cases with P53+/BCL2 (S+) co-expression were the worst prognosis, and P53/BCL2 co-weaker positive DEL cases even have superior OS and PFS than those non-DELs. Although statistics showed that the cases of P53+ or/and BCL2 (S+) have a lower OS and PFS in total cases (P=0.063 and P=0.024) , it is not the case when the DEL-cases take out from total cases, that is the cases with P53+ or/and BCL2 (S+) are as similar OS and PFS as others in non-DEL group (P=0.590 and P=0.550) . Conclusion: The strong expression of P53 and BCL2 proteins can be used as indicators of stratified diagnosis and poor prognosis of DEL.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Fas cell surface death receptor (FAS) and Fas ligand (FASL) can participate in the apoptosis of immune cells and target cells infected with a virus through the FAS-FASL signalling pathway. The decoy receptor 3 (DCR3) can competitively inhibit the binding of FAS to FASL. Our aim is to investigate the effect of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in FAS, FASL and DCR3 on hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. METHODS Four SNPs (rs763110 in FASL, rs1324551 and rs2234767 in FAS and rs2257440 in DCR3) were genotyped in 1495 controls free of HCV, 522 individuals with spontaneous HCV clearance and 732 patients with hepatitis C virus infection. The RegulomeDB database and RNAfold web servers were used to explore potential biological functions of SNPs. RESULTS FASL rs763110 was associated with susceptibility to HCV infection, and not to CHC. The odds ratio (95% confidence interval) of HCV infection in high-risk populations carrying FASL rs763110-TT was 1.82 (1.36-2.51, P < 0.001) compared to that of CC genotypes and 1.93 (1.43-2.60, P < 0.001) higher than that of CC + CT genotypes. Based on computer simulation, FASL rs763110-T may affect the transcription of mRNA by affecting the binding of a transcription factor, leading to structural changes in mRNA. CONCLUSION The genetic variant in FASL is linked with HCV infection, but not to spontaneous HCV clearance.

Abstract
Template dictionary construction is an important issue in sparse representation (SP)-based tracking algorithms. In this article, a drift-free visual tracking algorithm is proposed via the construction of an effective template dictionary. The constructed dictionary is composed of three categories of atoms (templates): nonpolluted atoms, variational atoms, and noise atoms. Moreover, the linear combinations of nonpolluted atoms are also added to the dictionary for the diversity of atoms. All the atoms are selectively updated to capture appearance changes and alleviate the model drifting problem. A bidirectional tracking process is used and each process is optimized by two-step SP, which greatly reduces the computational burden. Compared with other related works, the constructed dictionary and tracking algorithm are both robust and efficient.

Abstract
In this paper, a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) is presented that operates in a 27.5 T magnetic field within a hybrid magnet. The coarse approach of the STM is realized by using an inertial piezoelectric motor, and the scanning is realized by using a miniature scanner, which stands alone on a sapphire base. A combined vibration isolation system consisting of a brick-rubber-brick stack and two springs is used to isolate the vibration generated from the magnet. An enclosed copper shield is used to prevent sound from entering the tip-sample junction. The sound and vibration isolation measures highly improve the stability of the STM imaging. All the materials selected to construct the STM head are nonmagnetic. The drift rates of the STM in the X-Y plane and Z direction are as low as 26.2 pm/min and 34.6 pm/min, respectively, under ambient conditions. The high performance of the homebuilt STM was demonstrated by graphite hexagonal lattice images obtained in magnet fields ranging from 0 T to 27.5 T even without the protection of a vacuum and low temperatures. As far as known, this is the first STM that operates in a hybrid magnet. It is also the first STM that can obtain graphite hexagonal lattice images in magnetic fields up to 27.5 T. Our results greatly contribute to the further STM studies under ambient conditions and ultrahigh magnetic fields.

Abstract
Abstract Objective To analyze the differences among electrical damage, burns and abrasions in pig skin using Fourier transform infrared microspectroscopy (FTIR-MSP) combined with machine learning algorithm, to construct three kinds of skin injury determination models and select characteristic markers of electric injuries, in order to provide a new method for skin electric mark identification. Methods Models of electrical damage, burns and abrasions in pig skin were established. Morphological changes of different injuries were examined using traditional HE staining. The FTIR-MSP was used to detect the epidermal cell spectrum. Principal component method and partial least squares method were used to analyze the injury classification. Linear discriminant and support vector machine were used to construct the classification model, and factor loading was used to select the characteristic markers. Results Compared with the control group, the epidermal cells of the electrical damage group, burn group and abrasion group showed polarization, which was more obvious in the electrical damage group and burn group. Different types of damage was distinguished by principal component and partial least squares method. Linear discriminant and support vector machine models could effectively diagnose different damages. The absorption peaks at 2 923 cm-1, 2 854 cm-1, 1 623 cm-1, and 1 535 cm-1 showed significant differences in different injury groups. The peak intensity of electrical injury's 2 923 cm-1 absorption peak was the highest. Conclusion FTIR-MSP combined with machine learning algorithm provides a new technique to diagnose skin electrical damage and identification electrocution.

Abstract
In this work, a label-free, selective, and sensitive luminescent sensing platform was established for tyrosinase (TYR) activity monitoring and its inhibitor screening using one kind of lanthanide coordination polymer nanoparticles AMP-Tb/Ag+. By taking advantage of the specific binding and redox properties of Ag+ incorporated into the AMP-Tb network and dopamine (DA) as the product of the model substrate tyramine, the enzymatic reaction and the signal change of the sensing platform was effectively linked. The cooperative effect of a weakened energy transfer from AMP to Tb3+ by altering the electronic structure of Ag+ and an efficient photoinduced election transfer (PET) process caused by dopaquinone facilitated the luminescence quenching of Tb3+. Thus, this luminescent sensing platform could be employed for quantitative evaluation of TYR activity. There was a good linear range for TYR activity from 0.08 to 0.20 U mL-1 with a low detection limit of 0.004 U mL-1. Furthermore, this assay was successfully applied to accurate determination of TYR activity in human serum samples and efficient screening of TYR inhibitors. Considering unique spectral characteristics of lanthanides along with operation simplicity and superior analytical performance, this sensing platform is very promising in clinical diagnosis and drugs screening for TYR-associated diseases.

Abstract
Graphene/hBN heterostructures are promising active materials for devices in the THz domain, such as emitters and photodetectors based on interband transitions. Their performance requires long carrier lifetimes. However, carrier recombination processes in graphene possess sub-picosecond characteristic times for large non-equilibrium carrier densities at high energy. An additional channel has been recently demonstrated in graphene/hBN heterostructures by emission of hBN hyperbolic phonon polaritons (HPhP) with picosecond decay time. Here, we report on carrier lifetimes in graphene/hBN Zener-Klein transistors of ~30 ps for photoexcited carriers at low density and energy, using mid-infrared photoconductivity measurements. We further demonstrate the switching of carrier lifetime from ~30 ps (attributed to interband Auger) down to a few picoseconds upon ignition of HPhP relaxation at finite bias and/or with infrared excitation power. Our study opens interesting perspectives to exploit graphene/hBN heterostructures for THz lasing and highly sensitive THz photodetection as well as for phonon polariton optics. Long carrier lifetimes are beneficial for graphene-based optoelectronics, but carrier recombination processes in graphene possess sub-picosecond characteristic times. Here, the authors report carrier lifetimes ~30 ps at low energy in graphene/hBN Zener-Klein transistors, attributed to interband Auger processes.

Abstract
Background There are various endoscopic techniques for thyroid carcinoma dissection but few reports regarding the scarless neck technique and central compartment dissection (CCD) via the breast approach, especially for bilateral CCD are available. In this study, we reported 45 cases with scarless neck endoscopic total or near-total thyroidectomy plus CCD via the breast approach. Materials and Methods Forty-five female patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) were enrolled in the study, from January 2011 to March 2013. In brief, 5 mm ultrasonic coagulation device (Harmonic Scalpel, HS; Ethicon Endosurgery, USA) was used to perform thyroid vessel management and thyroidectomy. Twenty patients underwent total thyroidectomy and 25 underwent near-total thyroidectomy. CCD was performed in all 45 patients, including 13 with bilateral CCD and 32 with ipsilateral CCD. Results The procedure was successful for all 45 patients. Sixteen patients (35.6%) had lymph node metastases in central compartments. Postoperative transient adverse events included voice changes (9 patients) and hypocalcemia (18 patients), including 7 (21.9%) in the unilateral group and 11 (84.6%) in bilateral group. There was no permanent hypocalcemia or recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) palsy. None of the case were converted to open surgical procedure. All patients were satisfied with the cosmetic result of the scarless neck endoscopic thyroidectomy (SET). No evidence of residual or recurrent disease was found during a mean follow-up of 22.84 months (range, 12-34 months). Conclusions Experienced thyroid surgeons performed the scarless neck endoscopic total or near-total thyroidectomy plus unilateral or bilateral CCD via the breast approach for selected PTC patients. The procedure was safe and feasible with excellent cosmetic results.

Abstract
A newly developed in vivo Pig-a gene mutation assay displays great potential for integration into genotoxicity tests. To obtain more evidence for application of the Pig-a assay, we integrated this assay, micronucleus test in peripheral blood (MN-pb test) and bone marrow (MN-bm test), as well as a Comet assay into a transgenic RasH2 mice carcinogenicity study. Fourteen male RasH2 mice and five wild-type (WT) mice were treated with a strong mutagen aristolochic acid I at a dose of 5 mg/kg/day for 4 consecutive weeks. Mice recovered in 5 weeks. Peripheral bloods were collected for Pig-a assay, MN-pb test, and Comet assay at several time points, while bone marrow and target organs were harvested for the MN-bm test and pathological diagnosis after mice were euthanized. Finally, 13 of the 14 RasH2 mice developed squamous cell carcinomas in the forestomach, while there were no carcinomas in the WT mice. Pig-a mutant frequencies (MFs) consecutively increased throughout the study to a maximum value of approximately 63-fold more than background. These frequencies were relative to the incidence, size, and malignant degree of tumors. Micronucleated reticulocytes increased from Day 1 to Day 49, before returning to background levels. No positive responses were observed in either the MN-bm test or the Comet assay. Results suggested that, when compared with the other two tests, the Pig-a assay persistently contributed to sustaining MFs, enhanced detection sensitivity due to the accumulation of Pig-a mutations, and demonstrated better predictability for tumorigenicity. Abstract
Abstract
Background
Pre-operative echocardiography is performed in selected groups of patients for cardiac risk stratification prior to surgery. Many parameters, including Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction (LVEF), are assessed during echocardiography. While many studies have cited association between low LVEF and poor operative outcomes such as perioperative myocardial infarction or cardiogenic pulmonary edema, LVEF has limitations such as left ventricular (LV) cavity border tracing, geometric assumptions and inter-observer variability. LVEF may also appear normal in the presence of LV hypertrophy and a small LV cavity size. Studies have described the routine use of global longitudinal strain (GLS) as an alternative measure of ventricular function, with GLS having been reported to be a reliable marker in detecting subclinical LV dysfunction. This adds incremental value in predicting myocardial function and in risk stratification. In fact, some studies have documented GLS being a useful preoperative parameter in predicting postoperative LV dysfunction after cardiac valve surgery.
Purpose
The aim of this study is to determine the value of GLS in predicting post-operative outcomes in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgeries.
Methods
This was a retrospective study of all patients who had echocardiography performed for a pre-operative indication from February 2017 to October 2017. These patients were screened for those who had normal LVEF, had undergone subsequent non-cardiac surgery, and had post-operative troponins measured. Medical records were traced for baseline demographics, past medical history and echocardiographic features. GLS evaluation was prospectively performed using TOMTEC-ARENA (TOMTEC Imaging Systems GmbH) by assessors blinded to patient outcomes. Outcomes for major adverse cardiovascular events and mortality up to 1 year post surgery were collected. Post-op myocardial injury was defined as a peak Troponin T value of >30 ng/L or a >20% increment from baseline.
Results
A total of 42 patients were included. 61.9% (n = 26) were male and mean age was 72.3 years. Only 75.6% of patients were fully independent with activities of daily living and mean creatinine was 153.4μmol/L. Mortality at 1 year was 16.7% (n = 7) and 28.6% (n = 12) were deemed to have post-operative myocardial injury. 1-year mortality was associated with a lower GLS (-23.8% vs -19.2%, p = 0.001). However, GLS was not correlated with post-operative myocardial injury or hospital readmissions. In our study population, only a history of past myocardial infarction predicted post-op myocardial injury (58.3% vs 16.7%, p = 0.019).
Conclusion
Our study did not demonstrate the utility of GLS in predicting post-operative events, but this is likely because of the small sample size with low event rates. Nevertheless, GLS values did correlate with 1-year mortality and could be a marker of frailty and an increased mortality risk.

Abstract
Abstract Age estimation is of great significance in the fields of criminal investigation and forensic identification. It can provide the age information of individuals to judicial departments to facilitate the development of judicial work. In recent years, age estimation methods expanded from the morphological level to the molecular biology level. With the rapid development of epigenetics represented by DNA methylation, and the advancement of DNA methylation detection technology together with the detection platform, many age estimation methods based on DNA methylation biomarkers, or using several biological fluids, such as blood, blood stains, saliva, semen stains, etc. are developed. Currently, researches related to age estimation based on DNA methylation are relatively widely carried out. This paper summarizes the researches on age estimation based on DNA methylation, in order to provide references for related studies and forensic applications.

Abstract
The freshwater Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis), an indigenous crustacean in China, has been cultured for more than 30 years. It was reported that the bunya-like virus from Eriocheir sinensis (EsBV) was associated with the tremor disease (TD), which causes high mortality and has a serious impact on production. In this study, full-length genome sequences of EsBV were pursued using next generation sequencing; the genome of EsBV was found to be composed of 6.7 kb L, 3.3 kb M, and 0.8 kb S segments, respectively. PCR detection based genomic sequences showed that the positive rate of EsBV reached 40% in crabs from farming ponds. EsBV had the highest similarity with the Wenling crustacean virus 9, an unassigned, negative sense ssRNA virus. EsBV clustered with the Wenling crustacean virus 9 firstly, and then the branch clustered with Peribunyaviridae clade in every phylogenetic tree - based on L, M and S encoded sequences, respectively, indicating that EsBV can be classified in the family Peribunyaviridae, to which the orthobunyaviruses belongs, but not belonging to any known genera in the family Peribunyaviridae. There were unique complimentary terminal sequences for EsBV, with only partial consensus with members from the orthobunyaviruses. We believe that the findings of this research will be vital for future research about EsBV and will also go a long way in illuminating its relationship with TD. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Recently, studies have identified that microRNAs (miRNAs) are novel regulators for gene expression in tumor progression including breast cancer. The aim of the study is to investigate the clinical significance and underlying functions between miR-508-3p expression and triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) development. PATIENTS AND METHODS Quantitative Real-time PCR (QRT-PCR) was performed to determine the expression of miR-508-3p in 54 pairs of TNBC specimens and adjacent non-tumor tissues. The association between miR-508-3p expression and clinicopathological factors was assessed using x2-test. Transwell invasion assays were used to assess cell invasion ability. Luciferase reporter assay, Western blot analyses and qRT-PCR were performed to demonstrate ZEB1 was a direct target of miR-508-3p. RESULTS We demonstrated that miR-508-3p expression was remarkably decreased in TNBC tissues and cells. Lower miR-508-3p expression significantly associated with lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis in TNBC patients (p < 0.05). Ectopic expression of miR-508-3p significantly suppressed cell invasion ability of TNBC. MiR-508-3p overexpression suppressed cell epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) phenomenon of TNBC by upregulating E-cadherin expression, but downregulating Vimentin expression. In addition, we revealed that ZEB1 was a direct target of miR-508-3p in TNBC cells. MiR-508-3p significantly suppressed cell EMT process by regulating ZEB1 expression. CONCLUSIONS We found that miR-508-3p may be a potential therapeutic target of TNBC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Helicobacter pylori infects almost half of the world population and is listed as a type I carcinoma factor since 1994. Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth. (Labiatae) has been used to treat gastro-intestinal diseases for thousands of years in many east Asian countries, and the key ingredient, patchouli alcohol (PA), has been observed to exert anti-H. pylori and anti-urease activities. PURPOSE We investigated the effect of PA on H. pylori urease and its subsequent influence on macrophage phagosome maturation and function. METHODS In H. pylori experiment, the berthelot method and pH shock assay were adopted to evaluate the effect of PA on extracellular and intracellular H. pylori urease. And then, Q-PCR and Western blot were carried out to analyze the alterations in the expression of urease-related genes and proteins after PA treatment. In the H. pylori and macrophage cell (RAW264.7) co-culture experiment, the effects of PA on H. pylori-induced phagocytosis and intracellular killing of RAW264.7 were investigated using gentamycin protection assay, and the underlying mechanism was explored by immunofluorescence. RESULTS PA at 25 and 50 μM inhibited intracellular H. pylori urease activity but not isolated urease by down-regulating the gene expression levels of ureB, ureE, ureI and nixA and reducing the protein expression level of UreB, thereby inhibiting the acid resistance of H. pylori. PA also recovered the function of macrophage bacterial digestion, and prior treatment with ammonium chloride inhibited the efficacy of PA. CONCLUSION PA suppressed intracellular H. pylori urease function and maturation, which increased macrophage digestion ability.
