Abstract
Since 2015 when the transmission of schistosomiasis was controlled in China, the country has been moving towards elimination of schistosomiasis, with the surveillance-response as the main interventions for schistosomiasis control. During the period of the 13th Five-Year Plan, the transmission of schistosomiasis had been interrupted in four provinces of Sichuan, Jiangsu, Yunnan and Hubei and the prevalence of schistosomiasis has been at the historically lowest level in China. As a consequence, the goal set in The 13th Five-Year National Schistosomiasis Control Program in China is almost achieved. However, there are multiple challenges during the stage moving towards elimination of schistosomiasis in China, including the widespread distribution of intermediate host snails and complicated snail habitats, many types of sources of Schistosoma japonicum infections and difficulty in management of bovines and sheep, unmet requirements for the current schistosomiasis control program with the currently available tools, and vulnerable control achievements. During the 14th Five-Year period, it is crucial to consolidate the schistosomiasis control achievements and gradually solve the above difficulties, and critical to provide the basis for achieving the ultimate goal of elimination of schistosomiasis in China. Based on the past experiences from the national schistosomiasis control program and the challenges for schistosomiasis elimination in China, an expert consensus has been reached pertaining to the objectives, control strategy and measures for The 14th Five-Year National Schistosomiasis Control Program in China, so as to provide insights in to the development of The 14th Five-Year National Schistosomiasis Control Program in China.

Safety and efficacy of tirofiban in acute ischemic stroke patients not receiving endovascular treatment: a systematic review and meta-analysis. Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to analyze the safety and efficacy of tirofiban when used for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients not undergoing endovascular treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS An electronic search was performed for English-language studies on PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and CENTRAL (Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials) databases up to 31st July 2019. All types of studies comparing tirofiban monotherapy or combined intravenous (IV) thrombolysis and tirofiban therapy with controls for AIS patients were included. RESULTS Six studies were included in the review. Three evaluated tirofiban monotherapy while three compared IV thrombolysis and tirofiban therapy with controls. Meta-analysis indicates that tirofiban monotherapy does not significantly increase the incidence of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) (Odds Ration [OR] 1.14, 95% CI 0.72-1.82, p = 0.57; I2 = 0%), symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH) (OR 0.52, 95% CI 0.09-3.03, p = 0.46; I2 = 0%) and mortality (OR 0.53, 95% CI 0.13-2.07, p = 0.36; I2 = 63%) in AIS patients. Similarly, our analysis indicates no significant increase in the rates of ICH (OR 0.82, 95% CI 0.33-2.07, p = 0.68; I2 = 0%), sICH (OR 0.91, 95% CI 0.16-5.16, p = 0.91; I2 = 0%) and mortality (OR 1.50, 95% CI 0.42-5.38, p= 0.54; I2 = 0%) in AIS patients treated with combined IV thrombolysis and tirofiban therapy. Meta-analysis for functional outcome was not possible. CONCLUSIONS To conclude, tirofiban appears to be safe when used following IV thrombolysis or as monotherapy in AIS patients. Conclusions regarding improvement in functional improvement cannot be drawn. Further trials are needed to strengthen the evidence on this topic.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) contributes to long-term cardiac ischemia induced by hypoxia. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) affect the development and progression of heart diseases. This study explored the role and mechanism of lncRNA X inactive specific transcript (XIST) in H9c2 cells with hypoxia-induced injury. MATERIALS AND METHODS Methyl-thiazolyl-tetrazolium (MTT), transwell, and flow cytometry assays were employed to analyze the survival, invasion, migration, and apoptosis of H9c2 cells under different conditions, respectively. Expression of related genes was determined by quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR) or Western blot. RESULTS XIST was over-expressed in H9c2 cells with hypoxia-induced injury, and the silence of XIST alleviated cell injury. Up-regulation of XIST promoted the expression of B-cell lymphoma 2-Associated X (Bax) through competitive binding to miR-150-5p. CONCLUSIONS XIST protects cardiomyocytes from hypoxia-induced injury by mediating miR-150-5p/Bax axis, suggesting that XIST is an important target for AMI treatment.

Abstract
PURPOSE Gene polymorphisms of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1 (IL-1) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) may influence the risk of Graves' disease, but the results of so far published studies remain inconclusive. Therefore, the authors conducted this meta-analysis to assess relationships between TNF-α/IL-1/IL-6 polymorphisms and the risk of Graves' disease by pooling the findings of all relevant studies. METHODS A comprehensive literature searching of Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science and CNKI was conducted by the authors, and twenty-eight studies were found to be eligible for pooled analyses. RESULTS The pooled meta-analyses results showed that genotypic frequencies of TNF-α rs1800629, IL-1A rs1800587, IL-6 rs1800795 and IL-6 rs1800796 polymorphisms among patients with Graves' disease and control subjects differed significantly. Moreover, we found that genotypic frequencies of TNF-α rs1800629 and IL-6 rs1800795 polymorphisms among patients with Graves' disease and control subjects in Caucasians differed significantly, and genotypic frequencies of IL-1A rs1800587, IL-1B rs16944, IL-6 rs1800795 and IL-6 rs1800796 polymorphisms among patients with Graves' disease and control subjects in Asians also differed significantly. Nevertheless, we did not detect such genotypic frequencies differences for TNF-α rs361525 and IL-1B rs1143627 polymorphisms. CONCLUSIONS This meta-analysis suggests that TNF-α rs1800629, IL-1A rs1800587, IL-6 rs1800795 and IL-6 rs1800796 polymorphisms may influence the risk of Graves' disease in overall population. Moreover, TNF-α rs1800629 and IL-6 rs1800795 polymorphisms may influence the risk of Graves' disease in Caucasians, while IL-1A rs1800587, IL-1B rs16944, IL-6 rs1800795 and IL-6 rs1800796 polymorphisms may influence the risk of Graves' disease in Asians.

Abstract
Extrusion-based 3D printing followed by debinding and sintering is a powerful approach that allows for the fabrication of porous scaffolds from materials (or material combinations) that are otherwise very challenging to process using other additive manufacturing techniques. Iron is one of the materials that have been recently shown to be amenable to processing using this approach. Indeed, a fully interconnected porous design has the potential of resolving the fundamental issue regarding bulk iron, namely a very low rate of biodegradation. However, no extensive evaluation of the biodegradation behavior and properties of porous iron scaffolds made by extrusion-based 3D printing has been reported. Therefore, the in vitro biodegradation behavior, electrochemical response, evolution of mechanical properties along with biodegradation, and responses of an osteoblastic cell line to the 3D printed iron scaffolds were studied. An ink formulation, as well as matching 3D printing, debinding and sintering conditions, was developed to create iron scaffolds with a porosity of 67%, a pore interconnectivity of 96%, and a strut density of 89% after sintering. X-ray diffracometry confirmed the presence of the α-iron phase in the scaffolds without any residuals from the rest of the ink. Owing to the presence of geometrically designed macropores and random micropores in the struts, the in vitro corrosion rate of the scaffolds was much improved as compared to the bulk counterpart, with 7% mass loss after 28 days. The mechanical properties of the scaffolds remained in the range of those of trabecular bone despite 28 days of in vitro biodegradation. The direct culture of MC3T3-E1 preosteoblasts on the scaffolds led to a substantial reduction in living cell count, caused by a high concentration of iron ions, as revealed by the indirect assays. On the other hand, the ability of the cells to spread and form filopodia indicated the cytocompatibility of the corrosion products. Taken together, this study shows the great potential of extrusion-based 3D printed porous iron to be further developed as a biodegradable bone substituting biomaterial.

Abstract
To investigate the prophylaxis and treatment of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in intensive care units (ICU) in Zhejiang Province. A cross-sectional questionnaire survey for ICUs doctors was conducted online at 41 tertiary hospitals in Zhejiang Province, which included basic information of ICUs, VTE-related installations, knowledge and monitoring system. The data collected from the questionnaire were summarized and analyzed. Most ICUs were comprehensive. The ratio of physicians to beds, ratio of nurses to beds, and the ratio of rehabilitation physicians to beds were 0.52∶1, 2.12∶1, and 0.03∶1 respectively. Thirty-five over 41 (85.4%) ICUs completed VTE risk assessment within 24 hours. Twenty-five over 35 ICUs (71.4%) chose the Caprini model to assess VTE risk. Ultrasound was preferred in 92.7% (38/41) of ICUs equipped ultrasound. Almost all (40/41, 97.6%) of hospitals possessed intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) as mechanical prophylaxis. The ratio of IPC to bed was 0.22∶1. Low-molecular-weight heparin (92.7%, 38/41) was the initial treatment in ICUs. VTE prophylaxis system has been established in 92.7% (38/41)hospitals and 87.8% (36/41) ICUs,related personnel groups were set up in 75.6% (31/41) hospitals and 58.5% (24/41) ICUs including 68.3% (28/41) hospitals with multidisciplinary team. VTE prophylaxis system in different hospitals was heterogeneous. VTE risk assessment models in different ICUs were not identical. There were unmet clinical needs of VTE mechanical prophylaxis equipment. In conclusion, VTE screening, evaluation and prophylaxis protocols in ICUs still need to be standardized and improved.

Abstract
Toxoplasma gondii infects almost all warm-blooded animals and negatively affects the health of a wide range of these animals, including humans. Protein phosphatase 2C (PP2C) is a T. gondii protein secreted by rhoptry organelles during host cell invasion. However, very little is known about whether this protein can induce protective immunity against T. gondii. In this study, bioinformatics analysis of PP2C revealed some useful information in the context of anti-toxoplasmosis treatments and vaccine research. In addition, the PP2C gene was amplified, and a eukaryotic expression vector (pEGFP-PP2C) was successfully constructed to express PP2C. Finally, the constructed pEGFP-PP2C was injected into mice to evaluate whether it could induce immunoprotection. Compared with the control groups, we found that immunizations with the pEGFP-PP2C plasmid could elicit specific IgG antibodies and cytokines against T. gondii infection. The survival of mice immunized with the pEGFP-PP2C plasmid was significantly prolonged compared with that of the control group mice. Based on the ability of pEGFP-PP2C to induce specific immune responses against T. gondii, we propose that PP2C merits consideration as a potential vaccine candidate against toxoplasmosis.

Abstract
Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of triamcinolone acetonide (TA) alone and in combination with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) for treating keloids using meta-analysis. Methods: Databases including PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library were retrieved with the search terms of " triamcinolone acetonide, 5-fluorouracil, glucocorticoid, fluorouracil, keloid, scar, TAC, 5-FU, hypertrophic scar " and databases including Chinese Journal Full-Text Database, Chinese Biomedical Database, and Wanfang Data were retrieved with the search terms of ",, 5-,," in Chinese to obtain the publicly published randomized controlled trials about the effects of TA alone and in combination with 5-fluorouracil for treating keloids from the establishment of each database to august 2019. The outcome indexes included effective proportion of treatment, incidence proportion of adverse reactions, and recurrence proportion of keloids. RevMan 5.3 and Stata 14.0 statistical software were used to conduct a meta-analysis of eligible studies. Results: A total of 1 326 patients with keloids were included in 14 studies, including 668 patients in TA+ 5-fluorouracil group whose keloids were injected with TA and 5-fluorouracil and 658 patients in TA alone group whose keloids were injected with TA alone. A total of 7 articles achieved 1 to 3 points in modified Jadad score, while 7 articles achieved 4 to 7 points in modified Jadad score. Patients in TA+ 5-fluorouracil group had a higher effective proportion of treatment than that of TA alone group (relative risk=1.28, 95% confidence interval=1.16-1.41, P<0.01). Subgroup analysis showed that the quality of the included literature and ethnic factors might be the source of heterogeneity in effective proportion of treatment. Patients in TA+ 5-fluorouracil group had a lower incidence proportion of adverse reactions than that of TA alone group (relative risk=0.44, 95% confidence interval=0.25-0.75, P<0.01). Patients in TA+ 5-fluorouracil group had a lower recurrence proportion of keloids than that of TA alone group (relative risk=0.25, 95% confidence interval=0.14-0.44, P<0.01). There was no publication bias in incidence proportion of adverse reactions (P>0.05), while the effective proportion of treatment and recurrence proportion of keloids had publication bias (P<0.05). Conclusions: TA combined with 5-fluorouracil is more effective than TA alone for treating keloids, with less incidence of adverse reactions and recurrence.

Abstract
PURPOSE The present study investigated the correlation between the nutritional status and prognosis of COVID-19 patients, and analyzed the epidemiological characteristics of COVID-19 patients with different nutritional status. METHODS 429 patients who were diagnosed positive for COVID-19 in Hubei Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from December 2019 to March 2020 were selected and divided into different groups based on Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score (0-4: the low CONUT score group; 5-12: the high CONUT score group). Multivariate logistic regression analysis was applied to investigate the effects of CONUT score on prognosis. RESULTS The total score of admission status of patients with higher CONUT score was higher than that of those with lower CONUT score (χ2 = 7.152, P = 0.007). The number of adverse outcomes of female was higher than that of male (χ2 = 10.253, P = 0.001). The number of adverse outcomes was higher for patients with smoking history (P = 0.004) or hypertension (χ2 = 11.240, P = 0.001) than those without. Also, the number of adverse outcomes was higher for older patients than younger ones (χ2 = 15.681, P < 0.001). Patients with adverse outcomes had lower urine red blood cell count than patients without adverse outcomes (χ2 = 5.029, P = 0.025). However, BMI, drinking history and diabetes did not show correlation with the prognosis of COVID-19 (P > 0.05).Among patients ≥ 61 years old, the risk of adverse outcomes in the high CONUT score group was 6.191 times that of the low CONUT score group (OR = 6.191, 95% CI: 1.431-26.785).Among the non-diabetic patients, the risk of adverse outcomes in the high CONUT group was 11.678 times that of the low CONUT group (OR = 11.678, 95% CI: 2.754-49.41).For the patients who had a total score of admission status < 6, the risk of adverse outcomes in the high CONUT score group was 8.216 times that of the low CONUT score group (OR = 8.216, 95% CI: 2.439-27.682). CONCLUSION COVID-19 patients with good nutritional status showed a small chance to have adverse outcomes. Gender, age, hypertension, the number of urine red blood cell count and CONUT score affected the adverse outcomes of patients.

Abstract
Topological design provides additively manufactured (AM) biodegradable porous metallic biomaterials with a unique opportunity to adjust their biodegradation behavior and mechanical properties, thereby satisfying the requirements for ideal bone substitutes. However, no information is available yet concerning the effect of topological design on the performance of AM porous zinc (Zn) that outperforms Mg and Fe in biodegradation behavior. Here, we studied one functionally graded and two uniform AM porous Zn designs with diamond unit cell. Cylindrical specimens were fabricated from pure Zn powder by using a powder bed fusion technique, followed by a comprehensive study on their static and dynamic biodegradation behaviors, mechanical properties, permeability, and biocompatibility. Topological design, indeed, affected the biodegradation behavior of the specimens, as evidenced by 150% variations in biodegradation rate between the three different designs. After in vitro dynamic immersion for 28 days, the AM porous Zn had weight losses of 7-12%, relying on the topological design. The degradation rates satisfied the desired biodegradation time of 1-2 years for bone substitution. The mechanical properties of the biodegraded specimens of all the groups maintained within the range of those of cancellous bone. As opposed to the trends observed for other biodegradable porous metals, after 28 days of in vitro biodegradation, the yield strengths of the specimens of all the groups (σy = 7-14 MPa) increased consistently, as compared to those of the as-built specimens (σy = 4-11 MPa). Moreover, AM porous Zn showed excellent biocompatibility, given that the cellular activities in none of the groups differed from the Ti controls for up to 72 h. Using topological design of AM porous Zn for controlling its mechanical properties and degradation behavior is thus clearly promising, thereby rendering flexibility to the material to meet a variety of clinical requirements.

Abstract
DNA methylation was one of the earliest discovered epigenetic modifications in vertebrates, and is an important epigenetic mechanism involved in the expression of genes in many biological processes, including muscle growth and development. Its effects on economically important traits are evidenced in reported differences in meat quality traits between Chinese indigenous pig breeds (Wannanhua pig) and Western commercial pig breeds (Yorkshire pig), and this presents a unique model for analyzing the effects of DNA methylation on these traits. In the present study, a whole genome DNA methylation analysis was performed on the two breeds using methylated DNA immunoprecipitation. GO functional enrichment and pathway enrichment analyses identified differentially methylated genes primarily associated with fatty acid metabolism, biological processes of muscle development and signaling pathways related to muscle development and pork quality. Differentially methylated genes were verified by sodium pyrosequencing, and the results were consistent with the sequencing results. The results of the integrative analysis between DNA methylation and gene expression revealed that the DNA methylation levels showed a significantly negative correlation with gene expression levels around the transcription start site of genes. In total, 41 genes were both differentially expressed and methylated; these genes were related to fat metabolism, lipid metabolism and skeletal muscle development. This study could help further explore the molecular mechanisms and phenotypic differences in pig growth and development among different breeds.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the application and discovery of genotyping, gene sequencing, and gene expression analysis in the determination of ABO blood group subtypes and antigen expression abnormalities in hematological malignancies patients. Methods: From June 2019 to May 2020, three clinical cases were found with forward and reverse ABO typing discrepancy or atypical serologic agglutination pattern in the laboratory and blood transfusion department of Hebei Yanda Ludaopei Hospital were selected. Sequence-specific primer PCR (PCR-SSP) and Sanger sequencing of ABO gene coding regions were performed to determine the ABO genotypes, and whole transcriptome sequencing was used to analyze ABO and FUT1 gene expression levels. Results: A 12-year-old female acute lymphoblastic leukemia patient was determined as O.01.02 and BA.04 sub-genotype, corresponding to the serological B(A) subtype, and her ABO gene expression was normal (354.80). A 41-year-old female acute myeloid leukemia patient was determined as A1.02 and B.01 genotype, corresponding to the serological A(1)B phenotype, and her ABO gene expression was significantly reduced (45.70). A 42-year-old male with myelodysplastic syndrome and myelofibrosis was determined as A1.02 and A2.05 sub-genotype, corresponding to the serological A(1) and A(2) phenotype, respectively, and his ABO expression was negative. FUT1 expression was in the normal range in all three cases. The clinical blood product infusion strategy was formulated according to the genotype and the corresponding immunological subtype, and no significant transfusion-related adverse reactions occurred. Conclusion: Blood group sub-genotypes or aberrant gene expression can lead to ambiguities in serological blood group determination in hematological malignancies patients. ABO genotyping and gene expression analysis can help in this scenario and escort blood product infusion safety.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the clinical value of serum des-γ-carboxy prothrombin (DCP) in predicting hepatocellular carcinoma recurrence after liver transplantation. Methods: A total of 115 cases with hepatocellular carcinoma who underwent liver transplantation in Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University from October 2016 to December 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, Mann-Whitney U test, Kaplan-Meier method, Log-Rank test, χ2 test, univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis and other statistical methods were used to explore the value of DCP in predicting tumor recurrence after liver transplantation and its correlation with clinicopathological characteristics. Results: The preoperative serum DCP level in recurrent population after liver transplantation was significantly higher than that in non-recurrent population (P < 0.001). The optimal cut-off value of preoperative DCP for predicting recurrence was 200mAU/ml with the use of receiver operating characteristic curve. The sensitivity, specificity, Youden's index and the receiver operating characteristic curve was 87.90%, 57.30%, 0.452, and 0.726, respectively. Survival analysis results grouped by this cut-off value showed that patients with preoperative DCP ≥200mAU/ml had a higher probability of recurrence (P < 0.001). Further, subgroup survival analysis showed that patients with preoperative DCP≥200 mAU/ ml had a higher probability of recurrence than other cases of alpha-fetoprotein negative subgroup, cumulative tumor diameter ≤ 9 cm subgroup and Milan criteria subgroup (P < 0.05). Cox regression analysis showed that preoperative DCP≥200 mAU/ ml (P = 0.017) and cumulative tumor diameter > 9 cm (P = 0.014) was an independent risk factor for recurrence after liver transplantation. χ (2) test results showed that preoperative serum DCP level was correlated with gender, serum gamma glutamyltransferase level, serum alpha fetoprotein level, cumulative tumor diameter, vascular invasion, tumor differentiation and liver cancer transplant criteria (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Preoperative serum DCP can be used as a supplement to the existing liver cancer transplant criteria to predict hepatocellular carcinoma recurrence after liver transplantation. In addition, the accurate screening of patients with low risk of HCC recurrence after liver transplantation can improve the prognosis and efficacy of liver transplant patients.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the consistency of different measurement methods of saliva 1,5-anhydroglucitol (1,5-AG) in different glucose metabolism populations. Methods: From January 2018 to June 2019, 175 healthy volunteers (21-65 years, 58 males and 117 females) with normal glucose tolerance (NGT) and 80 diabetic patients (18-70 years, 44 males and 36 females) were enrolled in Shanghai Jiao Tong University Affiliated Sixth People's Hospital. Saliva was collected by saliva collection tube, and 1,5-AG was measured using both enzymatic and mass spectrometry methods. Serum 1,5-AG was determined by enzymatic method. Results: In NGT subjects, both serum and saliva 1,5-AG levels detected by enzymatic method were positively correlated with the saliva 1,5-AG levels detected by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (r=0.247 and 0.523, respectively, both P<0.05). However, there was no significant correlation between saliva and serum 1,5-AG levels detected by enzymatic method (r=-0.074, P=0.333). In diabetic patients, both serum and saliva 1,5-AG levels detected by enzymatic method were positively correlated with the saliva 1,5-AG levels detected by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (r=0.284 and 0.423, respectively, both P<0.05). However, there was no significant correlation between saliva and serum 1,5-AG levels detected by enzymatic method (r=-0.079, P=0.487). Conclusions: Both serum and saliva 1,5-AG levels detected by enzymatic method have a good consistency with saliva 1,5-AG levels detected by mass spectrometry method. The saliva and serum 1,5-AG levels detected by enzymatic method are not well correlated, and thus the enzymatic detection of saliva 1,5-AG needs further improvement in clinical practice.

Abstract
Background and objective Since December 2019, increasing cases of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are being detected worldwide. The purpose of this paper is to provide a scientific reference for the global prevention and control of COVID-19. Methods General demographic characteristics, epidemiological history, and clinical symptoms of COVID-19 were collected that had been reported on the websites of multiple Municipal Health Commissions in China. We herein describe distributions in time, place, and population of COVID-19. Results As of midnight on February 10, 2020, the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in China was 42,638, and the province with the largest number of confirmed cases was Hubei (31,728), followed by Guangdong (1177), Zhejiang (1117), and Henan (1105) province. The number of cases and the speed of confirmed cases in provinces other than Hubei were more moderate than those of the Hubei province. The median (interquartile range) age of 1740 patients with COVID-19 was 44 (33, 54) years, with a range of 10 months to 89 years. Conclusions The COVID-19 epidemic should be considered a global threat and the steps for control include early diagnosis and treatment, as well as isolation.

Background
It remains unclear whether readmissions of patients with heart failure (HF) have decreased over time in an era of improved therapy and management of HF. This study aimed to determine the temporal short- and long-term trends of cause-specific rehospitalization and their risk factors in a Swedish context.
Methods
HF patients in the Swedish Heart Failure Registry (SwedeHF) were investigated. Maximum follow-up time was 1 year. Outcomes included the first occurrence of all-cause, cardiovascular (CV) and HF rehospitalizations. Cox proportional hazards models were performed to determine the impact of increasing years on risk for rehospitalization and its known risk factors.
Results
Totally, 25,644 index-hospitalized HF patients SwedeHF from 2004 to 2011 were enrolled in the study. For 8 years, the incidence risk of 1-year all-cause rehospitalization remained unchanged, whereas the incidence risk of CV (P=0.038) or HF (P=0.0038) rehospitalization decreased. After adjustment for age and sex, a 3% decrease per every second year was observed for 1-year CV and HF rehospitalizations (P<0.05). However, time to the first occurring all-cause, CV and HF rehospitalization did not change significantly from 2004–2011 (P-values 0.13–0.87). When two study periods (2004–2005 vs. 2010–2011) were compared, the risk factor profile for rehospitalization was found to change.
Conclusions
Throughout the 8-year study period, CV- and HF-related rehospitalizations decreased, whereas all-cause rehospitalization remained unchanged, indicating a parallel increase in non-CV rehospitalization in the HF patients.

Introduction
The association between D-dimer and outcomes of patients with myocardial infarction (MI) remains controversial. Using age-adjusted D-dimer cutoff thresholds significantly improves the accuracy of diagnosis for thrombotic diseases. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of age-adjusted D-dimer in MI patients treated by percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Methods
In this observational study, 3614 consecutive patients with MI treated by PCI were retrospectively recruited. The baseline age-adjusted D-dimer threshold was 500 ng/mL, and was calculated as age × 10 in patients older than 50 years. Cox regression was used for outcome analysis. The primary outcome was all-cause death. Discrimination and reclassification were calculated to assess the additional prognostic value of D-dimer when combined with established clinical risk factors and the Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (GRACE) risk score.
Results
During a median follow-up of 652 days, a total of 194 deaths occurred. High D-dimer level, as defined by age-adjusted thresholds, was an independent predictor for all-cause death (hazard ratio:1.67, 95% confidence interval: 1.23–2.27, P=0.001). Addition of D-dimer level (high or low) significantly improved risk classification for death when combined with established clinical risk factors (net reclassification index [NRI]: 0.601, P<0.001; integrated discrimination improvement [IDI]: 0.011, P=0.046) and GRACE score (NRI: 0.618, P<0.001; IDI: 0.015, P=0.011).
Conclusions
In patients with MI treated by PCI, D-dimer elevation defined by age-adjusted thresholds was an independent predictor for adverse outcomes, and provided additional prognostic value when combined with clinical risk factors and GRACE score.

Background
Previous studies reported the cardiac protection effect of pre-infarction angina (PIA) in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). However, the association between PIA and culprit plaques characteristics in AMI patients through optical coherence tomography (OCT)assessment remains unclear.
Purpose
We sought to identify culprit-plaque morphology associated with PIA in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) using OCT.
Methods
A total of 279 STEMI patients who underwent intravascular OCT of culprit-lesion were included. Baseline clinical data and culprit-plaque characteristics were compared between the PIA group the non-PIA group.
Results
Patients with PIA represented 54.8% of the study population (153 patients). No differences were observed in clinical and angiographic data between two groups, except STEMI onset with exertion was significantly less common in PIA group (24.2% versus 40.5%, P=0.004). Patients with PIA exhibited a significantly lower incidence of plaque rupture (40.5% versus 61.9%, P<0.001) and lipid-rich plaques (48.4% versus 69.0%, P=0.001). The thin-cap fibroatheroma (TCFA) prevalence was lower in PIA group, presenting a thicker fibrous cap thickness, although statistically significant differences were not observed (20.3% versus 30.2%, P=0.070; 129.1±92.0μm versus 111.4±78.1μm, P=0.088; respectively). Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that PIA was an independent negative predictor for plaque rupture (odds ratio: 0.44, 95% confidence interval: 0.268–0.725, P=0.001).
Conclusion
STEMI patients with PIA showed a significantly lower prevalence of plaque rupture and lipid-rich plaques in culprit-lesion than non-PIA group, implying different mechanisms of STEMI attack.
