Abstract
Organochalcogen compounds are prevalent in numerous natural products, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, polymers, biological molecules and synthetic intermediates. Direct chalcogenation of C-H bonds has evolved as a step- and atom-economical method for the synthesis of chalcogen-bearing compounds. Nevertheless, direct C-H chalcogenation severely lags behind C-C, C-N and C-O bond formations. Moreover, compared with the C-H monochalcogenation, reports of selective mono-/dichalcogenation and exclusive dichalcogenation of C-H bonds are relatively scarce. The past decade has witnessed significant advancements in selective mono-/dichalcogenation and exclusive dichalcogenation of various C(sp2)-H and C(sp3)-H bonds via transition-metal-catalyzed/mediated, photocatalytic, electrochemical or metal-free approaches. In light of the significance of both mono- and dichalcogen-containing compounds in various fields of chemical science and the critical issue of chemoselectivity in organic synthesis, the present review systematically summarizes the advances in these research fields, with a special focus on elucidating scopes and mechanistic aspects. Moreover, the synthetic limitations, applications of some of these processes, the current challenges and our own perspectives on these highly active research fields are also discussed. Based on the substrate types and C-H bonds being chalcogenated, the present review is organized into four sections: (1) transition-metal-catalyzed/mediated chelation-assisted selective C-H mono-/dichalcogenation or exclusive dichalcogenation of (hetero)arenes; (2) directing group-free selective C-H mono-/dichalcogenation or exclusive dichalcogenation of electron-rich (hetero)arenes; (3) C(sp3)-H dichalcogenation; (4) dichalcogenation of both C(sp2)-H and C(sp3)-H bonds. We believe the present review will serve as an invaluable resource for future innovations and drug discovery.

Abstract
Diaryl and di-heteroaryl sulfides exist in the structure of many drugs and important biological compounds, also these compounds are well-known in medicinal chemistry due to important biological and pharmaceutical activities. Therefore, the development of novel, ecofriendly and efficient catalytic systems for the preparation of diaryl and di-heteroaryl sulfides is a very attractive and important challenge in organic synthesis. In this attractive methodology, we wish to introduce Fe3O4-supported 3-amino-4-mercaptobenzoic acid copper complex (Fe3O4@AMBA-CuI) nanomaterials as a novel and efficient magnetically recoverable catalyst for the preparation of heteroaryl-aryl and di-heteroaryl sulfides with high yields through reaction of heteroaryl halides with aryl or heteroaryl boronic acids and S8 as the sulfur source under ecofriendly conditions. This catalytic system was very efficient and practical for a diverse range of heteroaryl substrates including benzothiazole, benzoxazole, benzimidazole, oxadiazole, benzofuran, and imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine, because the desired diaryl and di-heteroaryl sulfides were prepared with high yields. The reusability-experiments revealed that the Fe3O4@AMBA-CuI nanocatalyst can be magnetically separated and reused at least six times without a significant decrease in its catalytic activity. VSM and ICP-OES analyses confirmed that despite using the Fe3O4@AMBA-CuI nanocatalyst 6 times, the magnetic properties and stability of the catalyst were still maintained. Although all the obtained heteroaryl-aryl and di-heteroaryl sulfide products are known and previously reported, the synthesis of this number of heteroaryl-aryl and di-heteroaryl sulfides has never been reported by any previouse methods.

Abstract
Studying diaryl sulfides and benzothiazoles is important in organic synthesis because numerous natural and medicinal products contain these scaffolds. Over the past few years, research on the synthesis of compounds containing benzothiazole-sulfide aryls, as important biological molecules, has received significant attention. Multicomponent reactions are the most popular strategy for performing difficult reactions and the synthesis of complexed molecules such as benzothiazole-sulfide aryls. In this work, CuI was successfully immobilized on the surface of magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles modified with aniline and 4-aminobenzoic acid [Fe3O4@ABA-Aniline-CuI nanocomposite] and its catalytic activity was investigated in the preparation of a broad range of benzothiazole-sulfide aryls and heteroaryls through the one-pot three-component reactions of 2-iodoaniline with carbon disulfide and aryl or heteroaryl iodides in the presence of KOAc as base in PEG-400 as solvent. TEM and SEM images revealed that the shape of the Fe3O4@ABA-Aniline-CuI particles is spherical and the size of the particles is approximately between 12-25 nanometers.

Abstract
Two or more indole molecules tailored to a single non-metal central atom, through any of their C2–7 positions are not only structurally engaging but also constitute a class of important pharmacophores. Although the body of such multi-indolyl non-metallide molecules are largely shared to the anticancer agent bis(indolyl)methane, other heteroatomic analogs also possess similar medicinal properties. This concise review will discuss various catalytic and uncatalytic synthetic strategies adopted for the synthesis of the non-ionic (non-metallic) versions of these important molecules till date.

Abstract
AbstractRhodanine and its derivatives have been known as privileged structures in pharmacological research because of their wide spectrum of biological activities, but the synthesis method of rhodanine skeleton is limited. In this paper, not only rhodanine skeleton, but also N-aryl rhodanines can be directly prepared via the reaction of thioureas and thioglycolic acid in one step catalyzed by protic acid, which provides a new approach of the synthesis of rhodanine and its derivatives. The developed strategy is straightforward, efficient, atom economical, and convenient in good yields.

Abstract
Sulfur-containing scaffold, as a ubiquitous structural motif, has been frequently used in natural products, bioactive chemicals and pharmaceuticals, particularly C-S/N-S bonds are indispensable in many biological important compounds and pharmaceuticals. Development of mild and general methods for C-S/N-S bonds formation has great significance in modern research. Iodine and its derivatives have been recognized as inexpensive, environmentally benign and easy-handled catalysts or reagents to promote the construction of C-S/N-S bonds under mild reaction conditions, with good regioselectivities and broad substrate scope. Especially based on this, several new strategies, such as oxidation relay strategy, have been greatly developed and accelerated the advancement of this field. This review focuses on recent advances in iodine and its derivatives promoted hybridized C-S/N-S bonds formation. The features and mechanisms of corresponding reactions are summarized and the results of some cases are compared with those of previous reports. In addition, the future of this domain is discussed.

Abstract
The construction of a C-S bond is a powerful strategy for the synthesis of sulfur containing compounds including sulfides, sulfoxides, and sulfones. Recent methodological developments have revealed lots of novel protocols for C-S bond formation, providing easy access to sulfur containing compounds. Unlike traditional Ullmann typed C-S coupling reaction, the recently developed reactions frequently use non-halide compounds, such as diazo compounds and simple arenes/alkanes instead of aryl halides as substrates. On the other hand, novel C-S coupling reaction pathways involving thiyl radicals have emerged as an important strategy to construct C-S bonds. In this review, we focus on the recent advances on the synthesis of sulfides, sulfoxides, and sulfones from non-halide substrates involving C-S bond construction.

Abstract
The β-hydroxy sulfides are an important class of organosulfur compounds that have a key role in the synthesis of bioactive compounds containing biological and natural products. The thiolysis of epoxides is the most common and best route for the synthesis of β-hydroxy sulfides. During the last decade, the applications of a diverse range of catalysts and promoter agents in green and organic mediums as well as under solvent-free conditions for the regioselective ring-opening reactions of epoxides with thiols in order to synthesize β-hydroxy sulfides have been studied by various research groups. This review is focused on the important achievements reported in the literature for the thiolysis of epoxides.

Abstract
Sulfoxides are key scaffolds in the synthesis of pharmaceutically active molecules. A large
number of sulfoxides are indispensable ingredients in the structure of most antibiotics, biological and
natural products such as Modafinil, Adrafinil, CRL-40,941 or fladrafinil, Fipronil, Oxydemetonmethyl,
Omeprazole, Pantoprazole, Lansoprazole and Rabeprazole. The oxidation of sulfides is the
most common and efficient strategy for the preparation of sulfoxides. Recently, many protocols
based on using transition metals have been reported for the oxidation of sulfides to the sulfoxides. In
this paper, we summarized a nice category of the reported protocols in the literature for the oxidation
of sulfides to sulfoxides.
