A mathematical model to optimize the available control measures of COVID – 19

In the absence of valid medicine or vaccine for treating the pandemic Coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, other control strategies like; quarantine, social distancing, self- isolation, sanitation and use of personal protective equipment are effective tool used to prevent and curtail the spread of the disease. In this paper, we present a mathematical model to study the dynamics of COVID-19. We then formulate an optimal control problem with the aim to study the most effective control strategies to prevent the proliferation of the disease. The existence of an optimal control function is established and the Pontryagin maximum principle is applied for the characterization of the controller. The equilibrium solutions (DFE & endemic) are found to be locally asymptotically stable and subsequently the basic reproduction number is obtained. Numerical simulations are carried out to support the analytic results and to explicitly show the significance of the control. It is shown that Quarantine/isolating those infected with the disease is the best control measure at the moment.

Three-Species Lotka-Volterra Model with Respect to Caputo and Caputo-Fabrizio Fractional Operators

In this paper, we apply the concept of fractional calculus to study three-dimensional Lotka-Volterra differential equations. We incorporate the Caputo-Fabrizio fractional derivative into this model and investigate the existence of a solution. We discuss the uniqueness of the solution and determine under what conditions the model offers a unique solution. We prove the stability of the nonlinear model and analyse the properties, considering the non-singular kernel of the Caputo-Fabrizio operator. We compare the stability conditions of this system with respect to the Caputo-Fabrizio operator and the Caputo fractional derivative. In addition, we derive a new numerical method based on the Adams-Bashforth scheme. We show that the type of differential operators and the value of orders significantly influence the stability of the Lotka-Volterra system and numerical results demonstrate that different fractional operator derivatives of the nonlinear population model lead to different dynamical behaviors.

Modeling the Dynamics of Drug Spreading in China

Drug abuse remains one of the major public health issues at the global level. In this article, we propose a drug epidemic model with a complete addiction-rehabilitation-recovery process, which allows the initiation of new users under the influence of drug addicts undergoing treatment and hidden drug addicts. We first conduct qualitative analyses of the dynamical behaviors of the model, including the existence and positivity of the solutions, the basic reproduction number, global asymptotic stabilities of both the drug-free and the drug-persistent equilibria, as well as sensitivity analysis. Then we use the model to predict the drug epidemic in China during 2020-2030. Finally, we numerically simulate the potential impact of intervention strategies on different drug users. The results show that the drug epidemic will decrease significantly during 2020-2030, and the most effective intervention strategy to eliminate drug epidemics is to strengthen the investigation and rehabilitation admission of hidden drug users.

Approximate Solutions of the Model Describing Fluid Flow Using Generalized ρ-Laplace Transform Method and Heat Balance Integral Method

This paper addresses the solution of the incompressible second-grade fluid models. Fundamental qualitative properties of the solution are primarily studied for proving the adequacy of the physical interpretations of the proposed model. We use the Liouville-Caputo fractional derivative with its generalized version that gives more comprehensive physical results in the analysis and investigations. In this work, both the ρ-Laplace homotopy transform method (ρ-LHTM) and the heat balance integral method (HBIM) are successfully combined to solve the fractional incompressible second-grade fluid differential equations. Numerical simulations and their physical interpretations of the mentioned incompressible second-grade fluid model are ensured to illustrate the main findings. It is also proposed that one can recognize the differences in physical analysis of diffusions such as ballistic diffusion, super diffusion, and subdiffusion cases by considering the impact of the orders ρ and φ.

Modeling and analysis of COVID-19 epidemics with treatment in fractional derivatives using real data from Pakistan

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause different symptoms, from mild cold to severe respiratory distress, and they can be seen in different types of animals such as camels, cattle, cats and bats. Novel coronavirus called COVID-19 is a newly emerged virus that appeared in many countries of the world, but the actual source of the virus is not yet known. The outbreak has caused pandemic with 26,622,706 confirmed infections and 874,708 reported deaths worldwide till August 31, 2020, with 17,717,911 recovered cases. Currently, there exist no vaccines officially approved for the prevention or management of the disease, but alternative drugs meant for HIV, HBV, malaria and some other flus are used to treat this virus. In the present paper, a fractional-order epidemic model with two different operators called the classical Caputo operator and the Atangana-Baleanu-Caputo operator for the transmission of COVID-19 epidemic is proposed and analyzed. The reproduction number R 0 is obtained for the prediction and persistence of the disease. The dynamic behavior of the equilibria is studied by using fractional Routh-Hurwitz stability criterion and fractional La Salle invariant principle. Special attention is given to the global dynamics of the equilibria. Moreover, the fitting of parameters through least squares curve fitting technique is performed, and the average absolute relative error between COVID-19 actual cases and the model's solution for the infectious class is tried to be reduced and the best fitted values of the relevant parameters are achieved. The numerical solution of the proposed COVID-19 fractional-order model under the Caputo operator is obtained by using generalized Adams-Bashforth-Moulton method, whereas for the Atangana-Baleanu-Caputo operator, we have used a new numerical scheme. Also, the treatment compartment is included in the population which determines the impact of alternative drugs applied for treating the infected individuals. Furthermore, numerical simulations of the model and their graphical presentations are performed to visualize the effectiveness of our theoretical results and to monitor the effect of arbitrary-order derivative.
