Homogeneous electrocatalytic water oxidation catalyzed by a mononuclear nickel complex

Using Co₃O₄@Co₃S₄-24 h as a bifunctional water splitting catalyst, an overpotential of ∼300 mV is obtained at a very low cell voltage of 1.53 V with a current density of 10 mA cm⁻² in 1.0 M KOH.

NiCo₂O₄/Ni₃S₂ affords a current density of 10 mA cm⁻² in 1.0 M KOH at a cell voltage of 1.58 V, i.e., comparable to that of the commercial 20 wt% IrO₂/C–40 wt% Pt/C couple (1.52 V at 10 mA cm⁻²).

In situ grown Co3O4/Co(OH)2 hybrids as efficient electrocatalysts for water oxidation

A novel heterogeneous Co₃O₄/Co(OH)₂ hybrid is prepared using a controllable facile one-pot hydrothermal reaction. The as-obtained hierarchical Co₃O₄/Co(OH)₂ hybrids can serve as highly efficient electrocatalytic water oxidation catalysts for alkaline electrolytes.
