Abstract
Manganese(III) complexes of tetradentate diphenolate-diamino (NNOO(2-)) ligands were prepared from aerobic reaction of MnCl2 with the respective ligands in basic methanolic solution. Methoxide complexes (NNOO)Mn(OMe)(MeOH)0-1 were obtained for three ligands, while others only provided the respective chloride complexes (NNOO)Mn(Cl)(MeOH). Complexes were analyzed by X-ray diffraction studies and octahedral complexes showed evidence of Jahn-Teller distortions. Magnetic moments determined in MeOD were indicative of high-spin Mn(III)-d(4) complexes (μeff = 4.2-4.6μB). Methoxide complexes were active in the coordination-insertion polymerization of rac-lactide (130 °C, 0.33-1.0 mol% catalyst loading) to yield atactic polylactic acid with moderate molecular weight control. Polymerization activity was reduced, but not suppressed by the presence of protic impurities. Chloride complexes showed less activity and only in the presence of external alcohol, indicative of an activated-monomer mechanism.

Abstract
A series of monomeric zinc silylamido complexes bearing [NNNO]-type tetradentate aminophenolate ligands, LZnN(SiMe3)2 [L = {(2-R(1))ArCH2N[(CH2)2R(2)]CH2(4-R(4)-6-R(3))C6H2O-}, R(1) = NMe2, R(2) = N(i)Pr2, R(3) = R(4) = Cl (1), R(3) = R(4) = cumyl (3); R(1) = NMe2, R(2) = NEt2, R(3) = R(4) = cumyl (2), R(3) = CPh3, R(4) = Me (4); R(1) = NEt2, R(2) = NEt2, R(3) = CPh3, R(4) = Me (5); R(1) = NMe2, R(2) = (S)-1-butylpyrrolidin-2-yl, R(3) = R(4) = cumyl (6), R(3) = CPh3, R(4) = Me (7)], have been synthesized via reactions of Zn[N(SiMe3)2]2 and 1 equiv of the corresponding aminophenols. The monomeric nature and versatile coordination patterns of these complexes in the solid state were further confirmed by X-ray diffraction studies on complexes 2, 3, 5, and 7. In complex 3, the N,N-diisopropylamino group on the pendant side arm does not coordinate to the metal center; only the remaining three donors of the aminophenolate ligand and the silylamido group interact with the zinc center. By contrast, in complexes 2, 5, and 7, the amino group of the aryl moiety does not coordinate to the metal center, while the amino group on the pendant side arm coordinates. At room temperature, the above-mentioned structural features of these complexes are retained in solution, as confirmed by (1)H NMR spectroscopy. Complexes 1-7 proved to be efficient initiators for the ring-opening polymerization of rac-lactide (rac-LA) at ambient temperature, and the polymerizations were better controlled in the presence of 2-propanol. The coordination pattern of the aminophenolate ligand exerted a significant influence on the stereoselectivity of the corresponding complex toward the polymerization of rac-LA, leading to the production of heterotactic biased polylactides (PLAs) by complexes 1 and 3 (Pm = 0.40-0.46) and moderately to highly isotactic PLAs by complexes 2 and 4-7 (Pm = 0.70-0.81). Detailed kinetic investigations revealed a first-order dependence on the monomer concentration for all complexes and different orders in the initiator concentration ranging from 1.78 to 1.81. The nature of the solvent as well as the molar ratio of the zinc complex and 2-propanol also displayed certain influence on the order of rac-LA polymerization in the initiator concentration. Factional orders of 1.80, 1.38, and 1.11 were obtained by using complex 5/(i)PrOH (1:1) in toluene and tetrahydrofuran and complex 5/(i)PrOH (1:2) in toluene, respectively. On the basis of DOSY and (1)H and (13)C NMR studies of zinc alkoxide model complexes "LZn(OCMe2COOMe)" as well as the fractional orders of 1.78-1.81 in the initiator concentration, activation/insertion processes likely involving more than one monomeric active species were then hypothesized.

Abstract
Aluminum complexes of non-chiral-salalen ligands were investigated in the catalysis of ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of lactide and ε-caprolactone and in their copolymerization. The aluminum-salalen complexes were found to polymerize all varieties of lactide, namely: l-, d-, rac- and meso-lactide, and showed moderate productivities. rac-LA gave rise to isotactic polylactides (with Pm up to 72%), while meso-LA gave rise to heterotactic polylactides (with a Pm of 79%). An experiment was designed for distinguishing between chain-end control and enantiomorphic-site control combined with polymeryl exchange for the isotactic stereoblock microstructure observed for the PLA produced from rac-LA; it gave strong evidence for polymeryl exchange between propagating species. Finally, this class of catalysts promoted the copolymerization of ε-caprolactone and lactides. In particular, compound allowed controlled random copolymerization of ε-caprolactone and l-lactide.

Abstract
A series of racemic 2-[(2'-(dimethylamino)biphenyl-2-ylimino)methyl]-4-R(2)-6-R(1)-phenols (L¹H-L⁴H) were reacted with {Mg[N(SiMe3)2]2}2 to provide four heteroleptic magnesium complexes (L¹⁻⁴)MgN(SiMe3)2·(THF)n (1, R(1) = (t)Bu, R(2) = Me, n = 1; 2, R(1) = R(2) = CMe2Ph, n = 0; 3, R(1) = CPh3, R(2) = (t)Bu, n = 1; 4, R(1) = Br, R(2) = (t)Bu, n = 0), which have been fully characterized. X-ray structural determination shows that complex 1 possesses a monomeric structure, but complex 4 is dimeric with C2-symmetry where the two metal centers are bridged by two phenolate oxygen atoms of the ligands. The coordination geometry around the magnesium center in these complexes can be best described as a distorted tetrahedral geometry. The heteroleptic complexes 1-4 efficiently initiate the ring-opening polymerization of rac-lactide and α-methyltrimethylene carbonate (α-MeTMC) and the polymerizations are better controlled in the presence of 2-propanol. In general, the introduction of a bulky ortho-substituent on the phenoxy unit results in increases of both the catalytic activity and the stereo- or regioselectivity of the corresponding magnesium complex. Microstructure analyses of the resulting PLAs revealed that P(r) values range from 0.46 to 0.81, depending on the catalyst and the polymerization conditions. For racemic α-MeTMC, detailed analyses using (1)H and (13)C NMR spectroscopy indicated the preferential ring-opening of α-MeTMC at the most hindered oxygen-acyl bond (X(reg) = 0.65-0.86).

Abstract
A series of aluminium complexes supported by amidinate-based N,O-chelate ligands are synthesized and characterized. While complexes [L(Dipp)AlMe2] () and [L(Ph)AlMe2] () are prepared by treating N-benzoyl-N'-2,6-diisopropylphenylbenzamidine (L(Dipp)H) and N-benzoyl-N'-phenylbenzamidine (L(Ph)H) with a slight excess of 1 equiv. of AlMe3, complexes [(L(Dipp))2AlMe] () and [(L(Ph))3Al] () can be obtained using the ligands and AlMe3 in 2 : 1 and 3 : 1 molar ratios respectively. Complexes have been characterized by (1)H/(13)C NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The molecular structures of complexes , and have also been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction technique. , and are highly active initiators for the ring opening polymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone and produce polycaprolactone with very high molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution. These complexes are also active toward the ROP of cyclohexene oxide.

Abstract
The coordination chemistry of a series of pro-ligands ([L¹]-[L⁶]) with cobalt and zinc derivatives has been studied. All complexes have been characterized by multinuclear NMR, elemental analysis, and by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Polymerization of rac-lactide takes place at 130 °C in the presence of cobalt and zinc complexes to yield polymers under solvent free conditions with controlled molecular masses and narrow polydispersities.

Abstract
Iso-selective initiators for the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of rac-lactide are rare outside of Group 13. We describe the first examples of highly iso-selective lutetium initiators. The phosphasalen lutetium ethoxide complex shows excellent iso-selectivity, with a P(i) value of 0.81-0.84 at 298 K, excellent rates, and high degrees of polymerization control. Conversely, the corresponding La derivative exhibits moderate heteroselectivity (P(s)=0.74, 298 K). Thus, the choice of metal center is shown to be crucial in determining the level and mode of stereocontrol. The relative order of rates for the series of complexes is inversely related to metallic covalent radius: that is, La>Y>Lu.

Abstract
Synthesis and characterization of novel dinuclear magnesium, zinc and aluminum complexes supported by bis(iminopyrrolide) ligands and their catalysis toward the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone (ε-CL) and rac-lactide (rac-LA) were carried out. The ligand precursors [(5-Bu(t)-2-C4H2NH)CH=N(CH2)2]2NH (H2L(Bu), 1) and [(2-C4H3NH)CH=N(CH2)2]2NH (H2L(H), 2) were prepared by condensation of diethylene triamine with 5-tert-butyl-1H-pyrrole-2-carbaldehyde and 1H-pyrrole-2-carbaldehyde, respectively. Treatment of 1 with 2 equiv. of Bu(n)MgOBn in toluene at 70 °C produced dinuclear magnesium complex [(μ-OBn)2Mg2L(Bu)] (3). Similar treatment of 1 with EtZnOBn generated [(μ-OBn)2Zn2L(Bu)] (4). Reaction of 2 with 2 equiv. of Me2AlOBn in toluene at 70 °C afforded aluminum complex [Me2Al(μ-OBn)2AlL(H)] (5). Complexes 3-5 were characterized by (1)H and (13)C NMR spectroscopy, elemental analyses, and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Each of complexes 3-5 is active for the ROP of ε-CL and rac-LA. Kinetic studies of the polymerization reactions were performed.
