Abstract
Rare-earth metal cations have been used rarely as Lewis-acidic components in the chemistry of frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs). Herein, we report the first cerium/phosphorus system (2) employing a heptadentate N4 P3 ligand, which exhibits triple FLP-type reactivity towards a series of organic substrates, including isocyanates, isothiocyanates, diazomethane, and azides on a single rare-earth Lewis acidic Ce center. This result shows that the Ce center and three P atoms in 2 could simultaneously activate three equivalents of small molecules under mild conditions. This study broadens the diversity of FLPs and demonstrates that rare earth based FLP exhibit unique properties compared with other FLP systems.

Abstract
An efficient kinetic resolution of propargyloxy dicarbonyl compounds via asymmetric [2,3]-Wittig rearrangement was achieved by using a chiral N,N'-dioxide/NiII complex catalyst. Various chiral α-allenyl alcohols were obtained in high enantioselectivities under mild conditions. The utility of this method was readily demonstrated in the asymmetric synthesis of the chiral 2,5-dihydrofuran derivative.

Abstract
Highly enantioselective ring-opening/cycloaddition reactions of cyclobutenones were achieved by employing chiral N,N'-dioxide/metal complexes as the catalysts. The Diels-Alder type cycloaddition with (E)-alkenyloxindoles yielded spirocyclohexaneoxindoles with excellent results. Meanwhile, a hetero-Diels-Alder process occurred with (E)-dioxopyrrolidines to afford spiropyrrolidinone-dihydropyranone derivatives.

Abstract
A chiral N,N′-dioxide/cobalt(ii) complex catalyzed highly diastereoselective and enantioselective tandem aza-Piancatelli rearrangement/intramolecular Diels–Alder reaction has been disclosed. Various valuable hexahydro-2a,5-epoxycyclopenta[cd]isoindoles bearing six contiguous stereocenters have been obtained in good yields with excellent diastereo- and enantio-selectivities from a wide range of both readily available 2-furylcarbinols and N-(furan-2-ylmethyl)anilines. An asymmetric aza-Piancatelli rearrangement/Diels–Alder cascade reaction between 2-furylcarbinols and N-(furan-2-ylmethyl)anilines was realized by using a chiral N,N′-dioxide/cobalt(ii) complex catalyst.![]()

Abstract
The first enantioselective assembly of sandwich-shaped organo molecules has been achieved by conducting dual asymmetric Suzuki-Miyaura couplings and nine other reactions. This work also presents the first fully C-C anchored multi-layer 3D chirality with optically pure enantiomers. As confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis that this chiral framework is featured by a unique C2 -symmetry in which a nearly parallel fashion consisting of three layers: top, middle and bottom aromatic rings. Unlike the documented planar or axial chirality, the present chirality shows its top and bottom layers restrict each other from free rotation, i.e., this multi-layer 3D chirality would not exist if either top or bottom layer is removed. Nearly all multi-layered compounds showed strong luminescence of different colors under UV irradiation, and several randomly selected samples displayed aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties. This work is believed to have broad impacts on chemical, medicinal and material sciences including optoelectronic materials in future.

Abstract
An approach for the construction of furo[3,2-b]quinolines and furo[2,3-b:4,5-b']diquinolines is developed through a metal-free [4 + 2] cycloaddition of easily available in situ generated aza-o-quinone methides and furans. The reaction tolerates a wide range of aza-o-quinone methides and substituted furans to afford the corresponding dihydro- or tetrahydrofuroquinolines in good to excellent yields. Mechanistic studies reveal that the reaction involves a concerted [4 + 2] cycloaddition pathway and shows a high regioselectivity of cycloaddition for a furan ring. The present method features mild reaction conditions, dearomatization of furans, high regio- and diastereoselectivity, gram-scalable preparations, and diversity of furoquinolines.

Abstract
Highly efficient asymmetric intermolecular radical-polar crossover reactions were realized by combining a chiral N,N'-dioxide/NiII complex catalyst with Ag2 O under mild reaction conditions. Various terminal alkenes and indanonecarboxamides/esters underwent radical addition/cyclization reactions to afford spiro-iminolactones and spirolactones with good to excellent yields (up to 99 %) and enantioselectivities (up to 97 % ee). Furthermore, a range of different radical-mediated oxidation/elimination or epoxide ring-opening products were obtained under mild reaction conditions. The Lewis acid catalysts exhibited excellent performance and precluded the strong background reaction.

Abstract
A highly enantioselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of meso-diaziridines with chalcones was realized by utilizing the ScIII-N,N'-dioxide complex as the catalyst. In this transformation, the 1,3-dipole intermediates generated from the C-N bond cleavage of diaziridine were trapped by chiral N,N'-dioxide/scandium(III) complex activated chalcones to undergo enantioselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition. A range of chiral 1,5-diazabicylo[3.3.0]octane derivatives were readily synthesized in good yields with high diastereo- and enantioselectivities.

Abstract
Enantiomerically enriched indole-containing heterocycles play a vital role in bioscience, medicine, and chemistry. As one of the most attractive subtypes of indole alkaloids, highly substituted tetrahydro-γ-carbolines are the basic structural unit in many natural products and pharmaceuticals. However, the syntheses of tetrahydro-γ-carbolines with high functionalities from readily available reagents are significant challenging. In particular, the stereodivergent syntheses of tetrahydro-γ-carbolines containing multi-stereogenic centers remain quite difficult. Herein, we report an expedient and stereodivergent assembly of tetrahydro-γ-carbolines with remarkably high levels of stereoselective control in an efficient cascade process from aldimine esters and indolyl allylic carbonates via a synergistic Cu/Ir catalyst system. Control experiments-guided optimization of synergistic catalysts and mechanistic investigations reveal that a stereodivergent allylation reaction and a subsequent highly stereoselective iso-Pictet-Spengler cyclization are the key elements to success. Tetrahydro-γ-carbolines are the basic structural unit in many natural products and pharmaceuticals. Here, the authors report a synergistic Cu/Ir system to assemble chiral tetrahydro-γ-carbolines via a stereodivergent allylation followed by a stereoselective iso-Pictet-Spengler cyclization.

Abstract
An enantioselective sulfenylation/semipinacol rearrangement of 1,1-disubstituted and trisubstituted allylic alcohols was accomplished with a chiral Lewis base and a chiral Brønsted acid as cocatalysts, generating various β-arylthio ketones bearing an all-carbon quaternary center in moderate to excellent yields and excellent enantioselectivities. These chiral arylthio ketone products are common intermediates with many applications, for example, in the design of new chiral catalysts/ligands and the total synthesis of natural products. Computational studies (DFT calculations) were carried out to explain the enantioselectivity and the role of the chiral Brønsted acid. Additionally, the synthetic utility of this method was exemplified by an enantioselective total synthesis of (-)-herbertene and a one-pot synthesis of a chiral sulfoxide and sulfone.

Abstract
A highly efficient kinetic resolution of racemic 2-acyl-3-aryl-N-tosylaziridines is achieved through a chiral Lewis acid promoted ring-opening reaction with 2-mercaptobenzothiazoles as the nucleophiles. The chiral N,N'-dioxide-lanthanum complex as catalyst and the 2-mercaptobenzothiazoles as active sulfur nucleophiles are the keys to the success of the reaction. A variety of enantioenriched β-amino thioethers and aziridines are obtained in good yields with good ee values.

Abstract
A chiral Mg(II)/N,N'-dioxide complex was found to be highly effective in promoting the diastereo- and enantioselective 1,6-conjugate addition of various azaarylacetamides to p-quinone methides under mild reaction conditions. Various chiral azaarene derivatives containing gem(1,1)-diaryl skeletons were obtained in good yields, dr, and excellent ee values. Meanwhile, on the basis of insight gained from the control experiments as well as the single-crystal structure of the Mg(II)/N,N'-dioxide complex and product, a possible transition state was proposed to explain the origin of coordination and stereoinduction.
