Abstract
Alkynes are important in organic synthesis. This review mainly focuses on recent advances (2013-2023) on alkynes with C-S bond formation, based on more than 30 types of sulfur reagents. The reactions of alkynes with various sulfur-containing compounds including RSSR (disulfides), RSH (thiols), S8 (elemental sulphur), alkynyl thioethers, RSCN, AgSCF3, K2S, Na2S, dithiane, RSCl, NFSI, RNCS, EtOCS2K, thiocarbamate, RSONH2, thiourea, sulfoxide, RSO2N3, CS2, RSO2NH2, RSO2NHNH2, RSO2Cl, RSO2Oar, RSO2SR', DABCO·(SO2)2, Na2S2O5, K2S2O5, RSO2H, RSO2Na and related compounds are discussed. Diverse mechanisms such as radical, electrophilic/nucleophilic addition, rearrangement, C-C bond cleavage, and CuAAC are discussed. The content is organized by substrates and reactivity patterns. We hope it will help in future research in this area.

Abstract
An environmentally benign multicomponent strategy for the amidosulfenylation of alkenes for the synthesis of β-succinimide sulfides is disclosed. In this process, common disulfides smoothly act as a sulfur-based source, and N-iodosuccinimide (NIS) is used not only as a free radical initiator but also as an N-nucleophile. A broad range of functional groups are tolerated in this reaction system.

Abstract
A metal-free strategy, alternative to the known complex cycloaddition reactions, towards 2-carboxylated thieno [2,3-b] indole derivatives has been successfully developed. The novel approach involves as starting materials easy accessible 1,2-diaza-1,3-dienes and indoline 2-thione and requires mild reaction conditions. Furthermore, the easy work-up required makes this method amenable for a one-pot approach as demonstrated in the preparation of thienodolin, a natural product isolated from Streptomyces albogriseolus that exhibits valuable biological properties.

Abstract
Thiophene-fused heterocyclic organosulfur systems, especially the thieno[3,2-b]indole moiety have attracted significant attention because they show a wide spectrum of biological activities such as antituberculosis, antitumor, antifungal, antibacterial, and human 5-HT5A receptor binding inhibition. Moreover, they also find applications in material chemistry and chemical engineering. Thus, due to their intriguing properties and applications, researchers are continually attempting to create more effective and environment-friendly methods for their preparation. In this review, we present a complete assessment of the current advances in the field of thieno[3,2-b]indole synthesis.

Abstract
The first catalyst-free cascade deprotonation/intramolecular aldol reaction of α-carbonyl sulfonium ylides with 2-mercaptoindole-3-carbaldehydes and 2-mercaptobenzaldehydes was developed. A series of thieno[2,3-b]indoles and benzothiophenes were smoothly obtained in high to excellent yields. The salient features of the protocol include catalyst-free conditions, an environment-friendly solvent, broad substrate scope, and large-scale synthesis.

Abstract
The direct integration of sulphur and amine groups with 1,1-dibromoalkenes for thioamide synthesis has been achieved in an aqueous medium. The presented green protocol emphasizes the suitability of aqueous media for the thioamidation reaction and enables greater selectivity with synthetic utility. A wide range of thioamides in moderate to excellent yields has been achieved using readily available starting materials, with the use of no organic solvents, catalysts, or additives.

Abstract
A simple, efficient, and practical sulfenylation at the C2 position of N-tosylindoles under mild conditions was developed. The designed transformation is based on the reaction of N-tosylindoles with BuLi and S-alkyl, and S-aryl phosphorodithioates or thiotosylates to produce 2-sulfenylindoles in moderate to high yields. The presence of additional hydroxy, carboxy, or amino functionalities did not disturb the formation of products.

Abstract
We report, herein, the synthesis of thieno[3,2-b]pyrroles from the direct oxidative [4 + 1] cyclization of 2-alkynyl pyrrolidines with elemental sulfur. This transformation likely originates from electrophilic attack at the β-position of pyrrolidine followed by an intramolecular thienannulation to deliver the desired product. Mechanistic investigation suggests that the present reaction involves the formation of dihydrothieno[3,2-b]pyrrole as an intermediate.

Abstract
The synthesis of sulfur heterocycles via the construction of C–S bonds has received considerable attention due to their biological value and extensive pharmaceutical application. While diverse sulfurating agents have been developed over the past few decades, in this regard, elemental sulfur, with advantages of low toxicity, odorless nature and chemical stability, has great potential for the construction of diverse sulfur heterocycles through its direct incorporation into the target molecules in a concise way. Direct functionalization of inert C–H bonds can shorten the number of reaction steps and minimize the amount of waste formed. Hence, heteroannulations via direct C–H sulfuration is considered to be an attractive strategy for the synthesis of sulfur heterocycles. In the last few years, a vast array of concise systems have been reported for the synthesis of some valuable sulfur heterocycles such as thiophenes, thienoindoles, thienothiazoles, thiazoles, benzothiazoles, and thiadiazoles through direct C–H sulfuration/annulations with elemental sulfur. Abstract
A Brønsted acid-promoted sulfuration/annulation reaction for the one-pot synthesis of bis-substituted thiazoles from benzylamines, acetophenones, and sulfur powder has been developed. One C–N bond and multi C–S bonds were selectively formed in one pot. The choice of the Brønsted acid was the key to the high efficiency of this transformation under metal-free conditions. Abstract
In this study, we have developed the synthesis of thieno[2,3-b]indole dyes via a multicomponent reaction of cheap and available reagents such as sulfur, acetophenones, and indoles using a magnetic nanoparticle-supported [Urea]4[ZnCl2] deep eutectic solvent as a green catalyst. The synthesis of a series of diversely functionalized thieno[2,3-b]indole has been successfully performed in a one-pot reaction. Among a total of 25 compounds synthesized, there are 21 new compounds with full characterization such as FT-IR, 1H and 13C NMR, HRMS (ESI). Due to the deep eutectic solvent coated surface of the magnetic nanoparticles, the catalyst could be recovered by an external magnet and reused in five consecutive runs without a considerable decrease in catalytic activity. We have developed the synthesis of thieno[2,3-b]indole dyes via a multicomponent reaction of cheap and available reagents using a magnetic nanoparticle-supported [Urea]4[ZnCl2] deep eutectic solvent as a green catalyst.![]()

Abstract
An efficient three-component benzoselenophenes formation has been developed from substituted indoles, acetophenones, and selenium powder under metal-free conditions. 2-Aryl indoles played an important role to promote benzoselenophene formation from acetophenone derivatives and selenium powder. One C-C and two C-Se bonds were selectively formed to provide 40 new benzoselenophenes in good yields.

Abstract
A straightforward protocol for the synthesis of functionalized thieno[2,3-b]indoles by base-mediated [3 + 2]-annulation of indoline-2-thione with Morita-Baylis-Hillman and Rauhut-Currier adducts of nitroalkenes is described. Complete regioselectivity, broad substrate scope, and mild reaction conditions make this strategy very valuable. Moreover, the thieno[2,3-b]indoles comprising functional groups such as hydrazine and ketoalkyl moieties are amenable for further synthetic elaboration.

Abstract
Iodine-promoted three-component synthesis of substituted β-amino sulfides has been developed starting from a propargyl ester, aliphatic secondary amine, and disulfide. This protocol provides a step-economic and highly regioselective entry to trisubstituted olefins with good substrate scope and functional group tolerance.
