Abstract
An efficient, selective and sustainable protocol was developed for the CuCl2/TEMPO/TMEDA‐catalyzed aerobic oxidation of activated alcohols to the corresponding carbonyl compounds using water or the environmentally friendly low melting mixture (LMM) d‐fructose‐urea as the reaction medium. Such oxidation reactions proceed under mild (room temperature or 40 °C) and aerobic conditions, with the carbonyl derivatives isolated in up to 98 % yield and within 4 h reaction time when using the above‐mentioned LMM. The potential application of this methodology is demonstrated by setting up useful telescoped, one‐pot two‐step hybrid transformations for the direct conversion of primary alcohols either into secondary alcohols or into valuable nitroalkenes, by combining oxidation processes with nucleophilic additions promoted by highly polarized organometallic compounds (Grignard and organolithium reagents) or with nitroaldol (Henry) reactions, respectively.

Abstract
Oxidation reactions are a key technology to transform hydrocarbons from petroleum feedstock into chemicals of a higher oxidation state, allowing further chemical transformations. These bulk-scale oxidation processes usually employ molecular oxygen as the terminal oxidant as at this scale it is typically the only economically viable oxidant. The produced commodity chemicals possess limited functionality and usually show a high degree of symmetry thereby avoiding selectivity issues. In sharp contrast, in the production of fine chemicals preference is still given to classical oxidants. Considering the strive for greener production processes, the use of O2 , the most abundant and greenest oxidant, is a logical choice. Given the rich functionality and complexity of fine chemicals, achieving regio/chemoselectivity is a major challenge. This review presents an overview of the most important catalytic systems recently described for aerobic oxidation, and the current insight in their reaction mechanism.

Abstract
We describe a selective aerobic oxidation of meta-biaryl phenols that enables rapid access to functionalized phenanthrenes. Aerobic oxidations attract interest due to their efficiency, but remain underutilized in complex molecule settings due to challenges of selectivity. We discuss these issues in the context of Cu catalysis, and highlight the advantages of confining oxygen activation and substrate oxidation to the catalyst's inner-coordination sphere. This gives rise to predictable selectivity that we use for a concise synthesis of the aporphine dehydronornuciferine.

Abstract
Bis(pyrazolyl)methane ligands are excellent components of model complexes used to investigate the activity of the enzyme tyrosinase. Combining the N donors 3-tert-butylpyrazole and 1-methylimidazole results in a ligand that is capable of stabilising a (μ-η(2) :η(2) )-dicopper(II) core that resembles the active centre of tyrosinase. UV/Vis spectroscopy shows blueshifted UV bands in comparison to other known peroxo complexes, due to donor competition from different ligand substituents. This effect was investigated with the help of theoretical calculations, including DFT and natural transition orbital analysis. The peroxo complex acts as a catalyst capable of hydroxylating a variety of phenols by using oxygen. Catalytic conversion with the non-biological phenolic substrate 8-hydroxyquinoline resulted in remarkable turnover numbers. In stoichiometric reactions, substrate-binding kinetics was observed and the intrinsic hydroxylation constant, kox , was determined for five phenolates. It was found to be the fastest hydroxylation model system determined so far, reaching almost biological activity. Furthermore, Hammett analysis proved the electrophilic character of the reaction. This sheds light on the subtle role of donor strength and its influence on hydroxylation activity.

Abstract
Aerobic oxidative CH functionalization of primary aliphatic amines has been accomplished with a biomimetic cooperative catalytic system to furnish 1,2-disubstituted benzimidazoles that play an important role as drug discovery targets. This one-pot atom-economical multistep process, which proceeds under mild conditions, with ambient air and equimolar amounts of each coupling partner, constitutes a convenient environmentally friendly strategy to functionalize non-activated aliphatic amines that remain challenging substrates for non-enzymatic catalytic aerobic systems.
