Abstract
Heterogeneous single-site and single-atom catalysts potentially enable combining the high catalytic activity and selectivity of molecular catalysts with the easy continuous operation and recycling of solid catalysts. In recent years, covalent triazine frameworks (CTFs) found increasing attention as support materials for particulate and isolated metal species. Bearing a high fraction of nitrogen sites, they allow coordinating molecular metal species and stabilizing particulate metal species, respectively. Dependent on synthesis method and pretreatment of CTFs, materials resembling well-defined highly crosslinked polymers or materials comparable to structurally ill-defined nitrogen-containing carbons result. Accordingly, CTFs serve as model systems elucidating the interaction of single-site, single-atom and particulate metal species with such supports. Factors influencing the transition between molecular and particulate systems are discussed to allow deriving tailored catalyst systems.

Abstract
The conversion of CO2 into desirable multicarbon products via the electrochemical reduction reaction holds promise to achieve a circular carbon economy. Here, we report a strategy in which we modify the surface of bimetallic silver-copper catalyst with aromatic heterocycles such as thiadiazole and triazole derivatives to increase the conversion of CO2 into hydrocarbon molecules. By combining operando Raman and X-ray absorption spectroscopy with electrocatalytic measurements and analysis of the reaction products, we identified that the electron withdrawing nature of functional groups orients the reaction pathway towards the production of C2+ species (ethanol and ethylene) and enhances the reaction rate on the surface of the catalyst by adjusting the electronic state of surface copper atoms. As a result, we achieve a high Faradaic efficiency for the C2+ formation of ≈80% and full-cell energy efficiency of 20.3% with a specific current density of 261.4 mA cm-2 for C2+ products.

Abstract
In this study, a novel Rh-iodide complex was synthesized through a surface reaction between an immobilized Rh cyclooctadiene complex and alkylammonium iodide (N+ I- ) on SiO2 . In the presence of ammonium cations, the SiO2 -supported Rh-iodide complex could be effectively used for the one-pot synthesis of various silylcarbonate derivatives starting from epoxy olefins, hydrosilanes, and CO2 . The maximum turnover numbers (TONs) for the hydrosilylation reaction and the CO2 cycloaddition were 7600 (Rh) and 130 (N+ I- ), respectively. The catalyst exhibited much higher performance for hydrosilylation than solely the Rh complex on SiO2 . The mechanism of the Rh-catalyzed hydrosilylation reaction and the local structure of Rh, which is affected by the co-immobilized N+ I- , were investigated by using Rh and I K-edge XAFS and XPS. Analysis of the XAFS profiles indicated the presence of a Rh-I bond. The Rh unit was in its electron-rich state. Curve-fitting analysis of the Rh K-edge EXAFS profiles suggests dissociation of the cycloocta-1,5-diene (COD) ligand from the Rh center. Results from spectroscopic and kinetic analyses revealed that the high activity of the catalyst (during hydrosilylation) could be attributed to a decrease in steric hindrance and the electron-rich state of the Rh. The decrease in the steric hindrance could be attributed to the absence of COD, and the electron-rich state promoted the oxidative addition of Si-H. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of a one-pot silylcarbonate synthesis as well as a determination of a novel surface Rh-iodide complex and its catalysis.

Abstract
Catalytic olefin metathesis based on the second- and third-row transition metals has become one of the most powerful transformations in modern organic chemistry. The shift to first-row metals to produce fine and commodity chemicals would be an important achievement to complement existing methods with inexpensive and greener alternatives. In addition, those systems can offer unusual reactivity based on the unique electronic structure of the base metals. In this Minireview, we summarize the progress of the development of alkylidenes and metallacycles of first-row transition metals from scandium to nickel capable of performing cycloaddition and cycloreversion steps, crucial reactions in olefin metathesis. In addition, we will discuss systems capable of performing olefin metathesis; however, the nature of active species is not yet known.

Abstract
The mechanochemical synthesis of nanomaterials for catalytic applications is a growing research field due to its simplicity, scalability, and eco-friendliness. Besides, it provides materials with distinct features, such as nanocrystallinity, high defect concentration, and close interaction of the components in a system, which are, in most cases, unattainable by conventional routes. Consequently, this research field has recently become highly popular, particularly for the preparation of catalytic materials for various applications, ranging from chemical production over energy conversion catalysis to environmental protection. In this Review, recent studies on mechanochemistry for the synthesis of catalytic materials are discussed. Emphasis is placed on the straightforwardness of the mechanochemical route-in contrast to more conventional synthesis-in fabricating the materials, which otherwise often require harsh conditions. Distinct material properties achieved by mechanochemistry are related to their improved catalytic performance.

Abstract
The Cr/SiO2 Phillips catalyst has taken a central role in ethylene polymerization since its invention in 1953. The uniqueness of this catalyst is related to its ability to produce broad molecular weight distribution (MWD) PE materials as well as that no co-catalysts are required to attain activity. Nonetheless, co-catalysts in the form of metal-alkyls can be added for scavenging poisons, enhancing catalyst activity, reducing the induction period, and tailoring polymer characteristics. The activation mechanism and related polymerization mechanism remain elusive, despite extensive industrial and academic research. Here, we show that by varying the type and amount of metal-alkyl co-catalyst, we can tailor polymer properties around a single Cr/SiO2 Phillips catalyst formulation. Furthermore, we show that these different polymer properties exist in the early stages of polymerization. We have used conventional polymer characterization techniques, such as size exclusion chromatography (SEC) and 13 C NMR, for studying the metal-alkyl co-catalyst effect on short-chain branching (SCB), long-chain branching (LCB) and molecular weight distribution (MWD) at the bulk scale. In addition, scanning transmission X-ray microscopy (STXM) was used as a synchrotron technique to study the PE formation in the early stages: allowing us to investigate the produced type of early-stage PE within one particle cross-section with high energy resolution and nanometer scale spatial resolution.

Abstract
A catalyst in which Pd nanoparticles are supported on triangle-shaped La2 O2 CO3 nanosheets exposing predominantly the (001) planes (Pd/La2 O2 CO3 -TNS; where TNS denotes triangular nanosheets) was prepared by a facile solvothermal method. The Pd/La2 O2 CO3 -TNS catalysts exhibited excellent catalytic activity and recycling stability for hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde to hydrocinnamaldehyde with turnover frequency of up to 41 238 h-1 . This enhanced activity of Pd/La2 O2 CO3 -TNS results from strong metal-support interactions. Structure analysis and characterization demonstrated that surface-oxygen-enriched La2 O2 CO3 -TNS supports exposing (001) planes are beneficial to charge transfer between the Pd nanoparticles and triangle-shaped La2 O2 CO3 nanosheets and increase the electron density of Pd. Moreover, the modulated electronic states of the Pd/La2 O2 CO3 -TNS catalysts can enhance the adsorption and activation of hydrogen to enhance the hydrogenation activity.

Abstract
The carbonyl-olefin metathesis reaction has experienced significant advances in the last seven years with new catalysts and reaction protocols. However, most of these procedures involve soluble catalysts for intramolecular reactions in batch. Herein, we show that recoverable, inexpensive, easy to handle, non-toxic, and widely available simple solid acids, such as the aluminosilicate montmorillonite, can catalyze the intermolecular carbonyl-olefin metathesis of aromatic ketones and aldehydes with vinyl ethers in-flow, to give alkenes with complete trans stereoselectivity on multi-gram scale and high yields. Experimental and computational data support a mechanism based on a carbocation-induced Grob fragmentation. These results open the way for the industrial implementation of carbonyl-olefin metathesis over solid catalysts in continuous mode, which is still the origin and main application of the parent alkene-alkene cross-metathesis.

Abstract
A series of polymer-supported cooperative PC(sp3 )P pincer catalysts was synthesized and characterized. Their catalytic activity in the acceptorless dehydrogenative coupling of alcohols and the transfer hydrogenation of aldehydes with formic acid as a hydrogen source was investigated. This comparative study, examining homogeneous and polymer-tethered species, proved that carefully designing a link between the support and the catalytic moiety, which takes into consideration the mechanism underlying the target transformation, might lead to superior heterogeneous catalysis.

Abstract
Grafting a molybdenum oxo alkylidene on silica (partially dehydroxylated at 700 °C) affords the first example of a well-defined silica-supported Mo oxo alkylidene, which is an analogue of the putative active sites in heterogeneous Mo-based metathesis catalysts. In contrast to its tungsten analogue, which shows poor activity towards terminal olefins because of the formation of a stable off-cycle metallacyclobutane intermediate, the Mo catalyst shows high metathesis activity for both terminal and internal olefins that is consistent with the lower stability of Mo metallacyclobutane intermediates. This Mo oxo metathesis catalyst also outperforms its corresponding neutral silica-supported Mo and W imido analogues.

Abstract
Small and narrowly distributed Cu nanoparticles, supported on SiO2 decorated with isolated TiIV sites, prepared through surface organometallic chemistry, showed significantly improved CO2 hydrogenation activity and CH3 OH selectivity compared to the corresponding Cu nanoparticles supported on SiO2 . These isolated Lewis acid TiIV sites, evidenced by UV/Vis spectroscopy, are proposed to stabilize surface intermediates at the interface between Cu nanoparticles and the support.

Abstract
Grafting Ti(=NtBu)(Me2 Pyr)2 (py)2 (Me2 Pyr= 2,5-dimethylpyrrolyl, py=pyridine) onto the surface of silica partially dehydroxylated at 700 °C gives the well-defined silica-supported Ti imido complex (≡SiO)Ti(=NtBu)(Me2 Pyr)(py)2 , which is fully characterized by IR and solid-state NMR spectroscopy as well as elemental and mass balance analyses. While stoichiometric imido-transfer reactivity is typical for Ti imides, the obtained surface complex is unique in that it enables catalytic transformations involving Ti imido and oxo intermediates. In particular, it efficiently catalyzes imidation of carbonyl compounds with N-sulfinylamines by oxo/imido heterometathesis.
