Abstract
Mandelic acid and its analogues are highly valuable medical intermediates and play an important role in the pharmaceutical industry, biochemistry, and life sciences. Therefore, effective enantioselective recognition and separation of mandelic acid are of great significance. In this study, two of our recently reported chiral amine-alcohol-functionalized UiO-68-type Zr-HMOFs 1 and 3 with high chemical stability, abundant binding sites, and large chiral pores were selected as chiral selectors for the enantioselective separation of mandelic acid (MA), methyl mandelate (MM), and other chiral molecules containing only one phenyl. Materials 1 and 3 exhibited excellent enantioselective separation performance for MA and MM. Especially for the separation of racemate MA, the enantiomeric excess values reached 97.3 and 98.9%, which are the highest reported values so far. Experimental and density functional theory (DFT) computational results demonstrated that the introduction of additional phenyls on the chiral amine alcohol pendants in 3 had somewhat impact on the enantioselective adsorption and separation of MA or MM compared with 1, but it was not significant. Further research on the enantioselective separation of those chiral adsorbates containing only one phenyl by material 1 indicated the crucial role of the groups directly bonded to the chiral carbons of the adsorbates in the selective separation of enantiomers, especially showing higher enantioselectivity for the adsorbates with two hydrogen-bonding groups directly bonded to its chiral carbon.

Abstract
"The development and deployment of a practical and portable technology for on-site chiral identification of enantiomers hold immense significance in the fields of medical and biological sciences. Among the essential amino acids, Tryptophan (Trp) plays a crucial role in human metabolism and serves as a diagnostic marker for various metabolic disorders. In this study, we introduce an innovative approach that combines an enantio-selective ZIF-8-His MOF-MIPs packed-bed centrifugal microfluidic system with an enantioselective colorimetric sensor probe. This system is further integrated with smartphone-based on-site data recording. The basis of this colorimetric sensor's operation lies in the controlled morphology and surface passivation of gold nano-ovals (Au-NOs) through DL-Alanine. To confirm the successful synthesis of the chiral recognition elements, we employed various characterization techniques, including FE-SEM, TEM, FTIR, CD, UV-Vis, zeta potential, DLS, and XRD. Our focus was on optimizing operational parameters for the effective separation and determination of L-chiral tryptophan on-site. The sensor exhibited two linear ranges for L-Trp detection: 0-5.42 and 5.42-80.47 mM, with a detection limit of 0.5 mM. The integrated system possesses advantages such as ease of availability, preparation, high stability, desirable selectivity even in the presence of similar biomolecules, and rapid detection capabilities. Furthermore, our method demonstrated successful enantioselective sensing of L-Trp in various biological samples, including human blood plasma, urine, milk, and bovine serum albumin (BSA), yielding promising results. The integrated microfluidic platform follows a "sample-in and answer-out" approach, making it highly applicable in healthcare, environmental monitoring, food safety analysis, and point-of-care testing. The chiral recognition pretreatment assay and self-contained, automated colorimetric detection on the microfluidic disc represent a promising avenue for cutting-edge research in these domains".

Abstract
Herein, we introduce a novel integrated system that merges an enantio-discriminative bio-MOF-packed centrifugal microfluidic chip made from PDMS with a user-friendly on-site colorimetric sensor. This innovative approach enables the precise enantioselective recognition of L-tryptophane (L-Trp). This chiral recognition probe was successfully synthesized through meticulous control of nano-ovals-shaped gold nanoparticles morphology and surface passivation. The operational factor of this methodology was optimized to ensure simplicity, practicality, and efficiency. This optimization led to reduced reagent consumption and instantaneous analytical feedback. The integrated system was effectively applied for enantioselective separation and quantification of L-Trp across an extensive linear range of 50 μM-1.5 mM, impressive limit of detection as low as 15 μM. It is noteworthy that this integrated system demonstrated desirable selectivity even in the presence of similar biomolecules, showcasing its robust performance and rapid detection capability. Further extended the application of this strategy to exceptional performance across enantioselective sensing of L-Trp in various sample matrices, comprising bovine serum albumin, bovine milk, blood plasma and urine samples. This integrated microfluidic sample pretreatment, chiroptical sensing, and on-site signal recording with a smartphone hold tremendous potential for widespread implementation, practical applications engaging healthcare and environmental, food safety, and point-of-needs analysis, facilitating successive solution mixing and colorimetric detection.

Abstract
The fundamental chemical and structural diversity of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is vast, but there is a lack of industrial adoption of these extremely versatile compounds. To bridge the gap between basic research and industry, MOF powders must be formulated into more application-relevant shapes and/or composites. Successful incorporation of varying ratios of two different MOFs, CPO-27-Ni and CuBTTri, in a thin polymer film represents an important step toward the development of mixed MOF mixed-matrix membranes. To gain insight into the distribution of the two different MOFs in the polymer, we report their investigation by Cryo-scanning electron microscopy (Cryo-SEM) tomography, which minimizes surface charging and electron beam-induced damage. Because the MOFs are based on two different metal ions, Ni and Cu, the elemental maps of the MOF composite cross sections clearly identify the size and location of each MOF in the reconstructed 3D model. The tomography run was about six times faster than conventional focused ion beam (FIB)-SEM and the first insights to image segmentation combined with machine learning could be achieved. To verify that the MOF composites combined the benefits of rapid moisture-triggered release of nitric oxide (NO) from CPO-27-Ni with the continuous catalytic generation of NO from CuBTTri, we characterized their ability to deliver NO individually and simultaneously. These MOF composites show great promise to achieve optimal dual NO delivery in real-world medical applications.

Abstract
MIL-101(Cr), an achiral metal-organic framework, made up of a terephthalic acid ligand and a metal chromium ion was selected as a template. Its structural features are unsaturated Lewis acid sites that can be easily activated and it has an extremely high specific surface area, big pore size, and good thermal/chemical/water stability. This achiral framework was modified to introduce chirality within the structure to develop chiral metal-organic frameworks (CMOFs). Here, natural chiral ligands, amino acids (l-proline, l-thioproline and l-tyrosine), were selected for post synthetic modification (PSM) of MIL-101(Cr). This is a very simple, clean and facile methodology with respect to the reactants and reaction conditions. CMOFs 1-3 abbreviated as MIL-101-l-proline (CMOF-1), MIL-101-l-thioproline (CMOF-2) and MIL-101-l-tyrosine (CMOF-3) were prepared by introducing l-proline, l-thioproline and l-tyrosine as chiral moieties within the framework of (Cr). These CMOFs were characterized by FTIR, PXRD, SEM, and thermo gravimetric analysis. Chirality within these CMOFs 1-3 was established by circular dichroism (CD) and polarimetric methods. These three CMOFs 1-3 showed enantioselectivity towards RS-ibuprofen, RS-mandelic acid and RS-1-phenylethanol to varying extents. Their enantioselectivity towards racemates was studied by chiral HPLC and polarimetry.

Abstract
Enantioselective identification of chiral molecules is of paramount importance in medical science, biochemistry, and pharmaceutics owing to the configuration-dependent activities of enantiomers. However, the identical physicochemical properties of enantiomers remain challenging in chiral sensing. In this study, inspired by the peroxidase-mimicking activity of Fe(III)-based nanomaterials, an enantioselective artificial architecture is constructed on TiO2 nanochannels. Homochiral Ti-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) use a 2,2'-bipyridine-5,5'-dicarboxylic acid ligand as the artificial enzyme skeleton, Fe(III) as peroxidase-mimicking centers, and l-tartaric acid (TA) as a chiral recognition selector. Using l-/d-cystine as model enantiomers, the chiral moieties of l-TA on Ti-MOFs allow stereoselective recognition of guest molecules through hydrogen bonds formed between chiral cystine and the host. In a tris(2-carboxyethyl)phosphine hydrochloride-containing environment, the disulfide bonds in cystine molecules are further cleaved, and the HS-tails react with Fe(III) active sites, causing the loss of peroxidase-like performance of nanochannels. Benefitting from the nanochannel architecture's current-potential (I-V) properties, the selective recognition of cystine enantiomers is directly monitored through the peroxidase-like activity change-induced ionic current signatures. This study provides a new and universal strategy for distinguishing disulfide- and thiol-containing chiral molecules.

Abstract
Chiral Metal-Organic Frameworks (CMOFs) are unique crystalline and porous class of materials which is composed of organic linkers and metal ions. CMOFs surpass traditional organic and inorganic porous materials because of their tunable shape, size, functional diversity, and selectivity. Specific applications of CMOFs may be exploited by introducing desired functional groups. CMOFs have chiral recognition abilities, making them unique for chiral compound synthesis and separation. The CMOFs can be synthesized through different approaches. Two main approaches have been discussed, i.e., direct and indirect synthesis. Synthetic strategies play an essential role in getting desired properties in MOFs. CMOFs find potential applications in adsorption, asymmetric catalysis, luminescence, degradation, and enantioselective separation. The MOFs’ porosity, stability, and reusability make them an attractive material for these applications. The plethora of applications of CMOFs have motivated chemists to synthesize novel MOFs and number of MOFs have been ever-escalating. Herein, the synthetic methods of CMOFs and their various applications have been discussed.

Abstract
Efficient separation of enantiomers is critical in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and food industries. However, conventional separation methods, such as chromatography, crystallization, and enzymatic kinetic resolution, require high energy costs and specific reaction conditions for the efficient purification of one enantiomer. In contrast, membrane-based processes are continuous processes performed with less energy than conventional separation processes. Enantioselective polymer membranes have been developed for the chiral resolution of pharmaceuticals; however, it is difficult to generate sufficient enantiomeric excess (ee) with polymer membranes. In this work, a homochiral filler of L-His-ZIF-8 was synthesized by the ligand substitution method and mixed with polyamide(imide) (i.e., Torlon®) to fabricate an enantioselective mixed-matrix membrane (MMM). The enantio-selective separation of R-1-phenylethanol over S-1-phenylethanol was demonstrated with a 25 wt% loaded L-His-ZIF-8/Torlon® MMM in an organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN) mode.

Abstract
Metal-organic framework membranes are frequently used in gas separations, but rare in pervaporation for liquid chemical upgrading, especially for separating water from polyols, due to lack of highly compact and robust micro-architecture. Here, we report hetero-lattice intergrown membranes in which amino-MIL-101 (Cr) particles embedded into the micro-gaps of MIL-53 (Al) rod arrays after secondary growth. By means of high-resolution TEM and two-dimensional topologic simulation, the connection between these two distinct MOF lattices at molecular-level and their crystallographic geometry harmony is identified, which leads to a close-knit structure at crystal boundaries of membranes. Typically, the membrane shows a separation factor as high as 13,000 for 90/10 ethanediol/water solution in pervaporation, yields polymer-grade ethanediol, and saves ca. 32% of energy consumption vs. vacuum distillation. It has a highly robust micro-architecture, with great tolerance to high pressure, durability against ultrasonic therapy and long-term separation stability over 600 h.

Abstract
Improving proton conductivity and fabricating viable metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) based proton exchange membranes (PEMs) are central issues exploiting electrolyte MOFs. We aim to design multivariate flexibility synergistic strategy to achieve Flexible MOFs (FMOFs) with high conductivity at a wide range of humidity. In situ powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and temperature-dependent Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR) prove the synergistic self-adaption between dynamic torsion of alkyl sulfonic acid and dynamic breathing of FMOF, forming a continuous hydrogen-bonding networks to maintain high conductivity. Based on the convincing proton conductivity, we construct a series of long-term durable MOF-based PEMs that serve as a bridge between MOF and fuel cell. Consequently, the membrane electrode assembly (MEA) of the flexible PMNS1-40 exhibits a maximum single-cell power density of 34.76 mW cm-2 and hopefully opens doors to evaluate the practical application of proton-conducting MOFs in direct methanol fuel cells.

Abstract
Rapid and high-flux enantiomer separation is significant for drug development. Membrane separation technology provides promising approaches for enantiomer separations. Porous membrane with good selectivity and high permeability is an ideal choice for enantiomer separations. Herein, we demonstrate the preparation of a novel two-dimensional chiral covalent triazine frameworks (CCTF) membrane by "in situ growth" method. Inheriting the strong chirality and specific interactions from CCTF, the CCTF membranes exhibited good enantioselectivity for drug intermediates and drug, including (R)/(S)-1-phenylethanol, (R)/(S)-1,1'-binaphthol and (R)/(S)-ibuprofen. Under optimal separation conditions, the enantiomeric excess value (e.e %) was above 21.7 % for (R)/(S)-1-phenylethanol, 12.0% for (R)/(S)-1,1'-binaphthol and 9.7 % for (R)/(S)-ibuprofen. The mechanism of the CCTF recognizing enantiomers were simulated by quantum mechanical calculations. In addition, the mechanism was also proved by the separation of enantiomers using this CCTF-modified silica column in liquid chromatography. The CCTF membrane may bring about the potentially application for large-scale production of chiral compounds. Meanwhile, this work provides a theoretical guidance for the application of CCOFs in enantiomer separation.

Abstract
Enantiomers of 2, 6-diaminotriptycene (R, R-1 and S, S-1) are split by chiral-phase HPLC and their absolute configurations are identified by single-crystal X-ray diffraction technology. Using the enantiomers as monomers, a couple of chiral porous polyimides (R-FTPI and S-FTPI) are prepared by polycondensation reactions and display good heat stability, high BET surface area and good solubility in organic solvents. Moreover, both of R-FTPI and S-FTPI can be cast into robust, free-standing films suitable for enantioselective separation with symmetrical chiral selectivity.

Abstract
Chirality has become an important research subject. The research areas associated with chirality are under substantial development. Meanwhile, graphene is a rapidly growing star material and has hard-wired into diverse disciplines. Rational combination of graphene and chirality undoubtedly creates unprecedented functional materials and may also lead to great findings. This hypothesis has been clearly justified by the sizable number of studies. Unfortunately, there has not been any previous review paper summarizing the scattered studies and advancements on this topic so far. This overview paper attempts to review the progress made in chiral materials developed from graphene and their derivatives, with the hope of providing a systemic knowledge about the construction of chiral graphenes and chiral applications thereof. Recently emerging directions, existing challenges, and future perspectives are also presented. It is hoped this paper will arouse more interest and promote further faster progress in these significant research areas.
