Abstract
Three unique hydrazone-based small-molecule-activatable photosensitizers were designed and synthesized. Two of them work efficiently in a low-pH environment, resembling the microenvironment of the cancerous tissues. The activation pathway is unique and based on hydrazone bond cleavage. They were investigated through in vitro cellular studies in aggressive cancer lines, and tumor-specific culture conditions successfully initiated the cleavage and activation of the cytotoxic singlet oxygen generation in the relevant time period. The interesting photophysical characteristics of the α- and β-substituted hydrazone derivatives of the Bodipy structures and their mild hydrolysis methodologies were also investigated successfully.

Quantitative Structure-Property Relationship Modelling for the Prediction of Singlet Oxygen Generation by Heavy-Atom-Free BODIPY Photosensitizers*. Chemistry 2021; 27:9934-9947. Abstract
Heavy-atom-free sensitizers forming long-living triplet excited states via the spin-orbit charge transfer intersystem crossing (SOCT-ISC) process have recently attracted attention due to their potential to replace costly transition metal complexes in photonic applications. The efficiency of SOCT-ISC in BODIPY donor-acceptor dyads, so far the most thoroughly investigated class of such sensitizers, can be finely tuned by structural modification. However, predicting the triplet state yields and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation quantum yields for such compounds in a particular solvent is still very challenging due to a lack of established quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) models. In this work, the available data on singlet oxygen generation quantum yields (ΦΔ ) for a dataset containing >70 heavy-atom-free BODIPY in three different solvents (toluene, acetonitrile, and tetrahydrofuran) were analyzed. In order to build reliable QSPR model, a series of new BODIPYs were synthesized that bear different electron donating aryl groups in the meso position, their optical and structural properties were studied along with the solvent dependence of singlet oxygen generation, which confirmed the formation of triplet states via the SOCT-ISC mechanism. For the combined dataset of BODIPY structures, a total of more than 5000 quantum-chemical descriptors was calculated including quantum-chemical descriptors using density functional theory (DFT), namely M06-2X functional. QSPR models predicting ΦΔ values were developed using multiple linear regression (MLR), which perform significantly better than other machine learning methods and show sufficient statistical parameters (R=0.88-0.91 and q2 =0.62-0.69) for all three solvents. A small root mean squared error of 8.2 % was obtained for ΦΔ values predicted using MLR model in toluene. As a result, we proved that QSPR and machine learning techniques can be useful for predicting ΦΔ values in different media and virtual screening of new heavy-atom-free BODIPYs with improved photosensitizing ability.

Abstract
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has attracted great interest in cancer theranostics owing to its minimal invasiveness and low side effect. In PDT, photosensitizers are indispensable components that generate cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS). Tremendous efforts have been devoted to optimizing the photosensitizer with enhanced ROS efficiency. However, to improve the precision and controllability for PDT, developing NIR imaging-guided photosensitizers are still urgent and challenging. Here, we have designed a novel photosensitizer 2Cz-BTZ which integrated with intense NIR emission and photoinduced singlet oxygen 1 O2 generation capabilities. Moreover, after loading the photosensitizers 2Cz-BTZ into biocompatible amphiphilic polymers F127, the formed 2Cz-BTZ@F127 nanoparticles (NPs) exhibited good photoinduced therapy as well as long-term in vivo imaging capabilities. Under these merits, the 2Cz-BTZ@F127 NPs showed NIR imaging-guided PDT, which paves a promising way for spatiotemporally precise tumor theranostics.

Abstract
The development of non-covalent synthetic strategy to fabricate efficient photocatalysts is of great importance in theranostic and organic materials. Herein, a fluorochrome N,N'-dimethyl 2,5-bis(4-pyridinium)thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazolediiodide (MPT) was transformed into an efficient photocatalyst through supramolecular dimerization in the cavity of cucurbit[8]uril (CB[8]). The host-enhanced charge transfer interaction within the supramolecular dimer 2MPT-CB[8] dramatically promoted intersystem crossing to produce triplet. In addition, the staggered conformation of 2MPT-CB[8] facilitated the energy transfer and electron transfer of the triplet. As a result, 2MPT-CB[8] could serve as a high-efficiency photocatalyst for the oxidative hydroxylation of arylboronic acids. This supramolecular dimerization strategy enriches the supramolecular engineering of functional π-systems. It is anticipated that this strategy can be extended to fabricate various π-systems with tailor-made functions.

Abstract
A range of unprocessed, reducing sugar substrates (mono-, di-, and trisaccharides) is shown to take part in a straightforward four-step synthetic route to water-soluble, uncharged BODIPY derivatives with unimpaired chiral integrity and high fluorescence efficiency. A wide compatibility with several postfunctionalizations is demonstrated, thus suggesting a universal utility of the multifunctional glycoconjugates, which we call GlycoBODIPYs. Knoevenagel condensations are able to promote a red-shift in the spectra, thereby furnishing strongly fluorescent red and far-red glycoconjugates of high hydrophilicity. The synthetic outcome was studied by X-ray crystallography and by comprehensive photophysical investigations in several solvent systems. Furthermore, cell experiments illustrate efficient cell uptake and demonstrate differential cell targeting as a function of the integrated chiral information.
