Abstract
A pair of novel chiral Zn(II) complexes coordinated by Schiff-base type ligands derived from BINOL (1,1'-bi-2-naphthol), R-/S-Zn, were synthesized. X-ray crystallography revealed the presence of two crystallographically independent complexes; one has a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal structure coordinated by two binaphthyl ligands and one disordered methanol molecule (molecule A), while the other has a distorted tetrahedral structure coordinated by two binaphthyl ligands (molecule B). Numerous CH⋯π and CH⋯O interactions were identified, contributing to the formation of a 3-dimensional rigid network structure. Both R-/S-Zn exhibited fluorescence in both CH2Cl2 solutions and powder samples, with the photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) of powder samples being twice as large as those in solutions, indicating aggregation-induced enhanced emission (AIEE). The AIEE properties were attributed to the restraint of the molecular motion arising from the 3-dimensional intermolecular interactions. CD and CPL spectra were observed for R-/S-Zn in both solutions and powders. The dissymmetry factors, gabs and gCPL values, were within the order of 10-3 to 10-4 magnitudes, comparable to those reported for chiral Zn(II) complexes in previous studies.

Abstract
This study explored the development of functional dyes using aluminum, focusing on aluminum-based dinuclear triple-stranded helicates, and examined the effects of substituent variations on their structural and optical properties. Key findings revealed that the modification of methyl groups to the pyrrole positions significantly extended the conjugation system, resulting in a red shift in the absorption and emission spectra. Conversely, the modification of methyl groups at the methine positions due to steric hindrances increased the torsion angle of the ligands, leading to a blue shift in the absorption and emission spectra. A common feature across all complexes was that in the excited state, one of the three ligands underwent significant structural relaxation. This led to a pronounced Stokes shift and minimal spectra overlap with high photoluminescence behaviors. Moreover, our research extended to the optical resolution of the newly synthesized complexes by analyzing the chiroptical properties of the resulting enantiomers, including their circular dichroism and circularly polarized luminescence. These insights offer valuable contributions to the design and application of novel aluminum-based functional dyes, potentially influencing a range of fields, from materials science to optoelectronics.

Abstract
A dimeric ZnII carbene complex featuring bridging and chelating benzene-1,2-dithiolate ligands is highly stable towards air and water. The donor-Zn-acceptor structure leads to visible light emission in the solid state, solution and polymer matrices with λmax between 577-657 nm and, for zinc(II) complexes, unusually high radiative rate constants for triplet exciton decay of up to kr =1.5×105 s-1 at room temperature. Variable temperature and DFT/MRCI studies show that a small energy gap between the 1/3 LL/LMCT states of only 79 meV is responsible for efficient thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). Time-resolved luminescence and transient absorption studies confirm the occurrence of long-lived, dominantly ligand-to-ligand charge transfer excited states in solution, allowing for application in Dexter energy transfer photocatalysis.

Abstract
The high element abundance and d10 electron configuration make ZnII‐based compounds attractive candidates for the development of novel photoactive molecules. Although a large library of purely fluorescent compounds exists, emission involving triplet excited states is a rare phenomenon for zinc complexes. We have investigated the photophysical and ‐chemical properties of a series of dimeric and monomeric ZnII halide complexes bearing a cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbene (cAAC) as chromophore unit. Specifically, [(cAAC)XZn(μ‐X)2ZnX(cAAC)] (X=Cl (1), Br (2), I (3)) and [ZnX2(cAAC)(NCMe)] (X=Br (4), I (5)) were isolated and fully characterized, showing intense visible light photoluminescence under UV irradiation at 297 K and fast photo‐induced transformation. At 77 K, the compounds exhibit improved stability allowing to record ultra‐long lifetimes in the millisecond regime. DFT/MRCI calculations confirm that the emission stems from 3XCT/LEcAAC states and indicate the phototransformation to be related to asymmetric distortion of the complexes by cAAC ligand rotation. This study enhances our understanding of the excited state properties for future development and application of new classes of ZnII phosphorescent complexes.

Abstract
The handedness of circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) of Zn(II) complexes with a chiral Schiff-base ligand can be controlled by coordination geometry changes in solution and in the solid state. The relationships between molecular structure and chiroptical properties were discussed with the results of X-ray diffraction analysis and DFT calculations.

Abstract
Herein, we report the synthesis and planar chiral properties of a pair of water-soluble cationic pillar[5]arenes with stereogenic carbons. Interestingly, although units of the molecules were rotatable, only one planar chiral diastereomer existed in water in both cases. As a new type of chiral source, these molecules transmitted chiral information from the planar chiral cavities to the assembly of a water-soluble extended π-conjugated compound, affording circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). The chirality transfer process and resulting CPL were extremely sensitive to the feed ratio of the chiral pillar[5]arenes owing to the combined action of their planar chirality, bulkiness, and strong binding properties. When a limited amount of chiral source was added, further assembly of the extended π-conjugated compound into helical fibers with CPL was triggered. Unexpectedly, larger amounts of chiral source destroyed the helical fiber assemblies, resulting in elimination of the chirality and CPL properties from the assembled structures. Readily obtained pillar[5]arenes with pure planar chirality enabled CPL on/off control of an assembled system by varying the feed ratio.![]()

Abstract
RutheniumII complexes bearing three axially chiral bipyridyl ligands were synthesized as a new family of chiral complex dyes, and Δ-(S)- and Λ-(S)-diastereomers were obtained. The X-ray crystal structure analyses, spectroscopy, and DFT calculations suggested that all the bipyridyls maintained chirality in both the ground and excited states, and the Δ-(S)- and Λ-(S)-isomers are the matched (more relaxed) and mismatched (more constrained) pairs, respectively. The mismatched Λ-(S)-isomer exhibited red circularly polarized phosphorescence (CPP) both in solution and in the solid state. The solution state CPP is the most intense of ruthenium complexes, while the solid state CPP is the first example of them. It is supposed that, for the Λ-(S)-isomer, the six cumulative CH/π interactions suppress further distortion in the T1 state.

Abstract
Currently, the development of circularly polarized luminescent (CPL) materials has drawn extensive attention due to the numerous potential applications in optical data storage, displays, backlights in 3D displays, and so on. While the fabrication of CPL-active materials generally requires chiral luminescent molecules, the introduction of the "self-assembly" concept offers a new perspective in obtaining the CPL-active materials. Following this approach, various self-assembled materials, including organic-, inorganic-, and hybrid systems can be endowed with CPL properties. Benefiting from the advantages of self-assembly, not only chiral molecules, but also achiral species, as well as inorganic nanoparticles have potential to be self-assembled into chiral nanoassemblies showing CPL activity. In addition, the dissymmetry factor, an important parameter of CPL materials, can be enhanced through various pathways of self-assembly. Here, the present status and progress of self-assembled nanomaterials with CPL activity are reviewed. An overview of the key factors in regulating chiral emission materials at the supramolecular level will largely boost their application in multidisciplinary fields.

Abstract
Chiral molecules are essential for the development of advanced technological applications in spintronic and photonic. The best systems should produce large circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) as estimated by their dissymmetry factor (g lum), which can reach the maximum values of -2 ≤ g lum ≤ 2 when either pure right- or left-handed polarized light is emitted after standard excitation. For matching this requirement, theoretical considerations indicate that optical transitions with large magnetic and weak electric transition dipole moments represent the holy grail of CPL. Because of their detrimental strong and allowed electric dipole transitions, popular chiral emissive organic molecules display generally moderate dissymmetry factors (10-5 ≤ g lum ≤ 10-3). However, recent efforts in this field show that g lum can be significantly enhanced when the chiral organic activators are part of chiral supramolecular assemblies or of liquid crystalline materials. At the other extreme, chiral EuIII- and SmIII-based complexes, which possess intra-shell parity-forbidden electric but allowed magnetic dipole transitions, have yielded the largest dissymmetry factor reported so far with g lum ~ 1.38. Consequently, 4f-based metal complexes with strong CPL are currently the best candidates for potential technological applications. They however suffer from the need for highly pure samples and from considerable production costs. In this context, chiral earth-abundant and cheap d-block metal complexes benefit from a renewed interest according that their CPL signal can be optimized despite the larger covalency displayed by d-block cations compared with 4f-block analogs. This essay thus aims at providing a minimum overview of the theoretical aspects rationalizing circularly polarized luminescence and their exploitation for the design of chiral emissive metal complexes with strong CPL. Beyond the corroboration that f-f transitions are ideal candidates for generating large dissymmetry factors, a special attention is focused on the recent attempts to use chiral CrIII-based complexes that reach values of g lum up to 0.2. This could pave the way for replacing high-cost rare earths with cheap transition metals for CPL applications.

Abstract
While dipyrrin-boron complexes (BODIPYs) and their derivatives have attracted much attention, dipyrrin-based metal complexes recently appeared as a novel luminescent material. So far, dipyrrin-metal complexes have been regarded as non-luminescent or weakly luminescent. Interestingly, introduction of steric hindrance at the meso-position and the development of heteroleptic complexes with proper frontier orbital ordering are two recent strategies that have been developed to improve their luminescent ability. Compared with BODIPYs, one of the distinctive advantages of dipyrrin-metal complexes is that they can form a series of self-assembled supramolecules and polymer assemblies via facile coordination reactions. In recent times, several supramolecular, coordination polymers and Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) have been developed, [Formula: see text] by spontaneous coordination reactions between dipyrrin ligands and metal ions. As a novel luminescent material, dipyrrin-metal complexes have been applied in many fields. This review article summarizes recent developments in dipyrrin-metal complexes from the viewpoint of the improvement of luminescent ability, the formation of supramolecular and coordination polymers and their potential applications.

Abstract
The selective interplay between dimensional morphology transition and signal transfer is an important feature for both nanomaterials and biosystems. While most of those reported examples considered either dimensional transition or signal transfer, the integrated interplay or selectivity for these two aspects in single self-assembled system has been rarely studied. Here, we report that a positively charged chiral π-building block could self-assemble into multidimensional nanostructures, which showed tunable circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). Impressively, when these CPL-active multidimensional structures interacted with two achiral dyes (positively charged ThT and negatively charged CNA), 3D nanocubes and 0D nanospheres showed neither chirality transfer nor energy transfer, while 2D nanoplates could successfully trigger a selective chirality or energy transfer depending on the charge type of acceptor dyes, which then emitted an enhanced CPL signal. This work demonstrated rational design of charged π-building block for the construction of dimension controllable and selective signal transfer self-assembly system, which might deepen the understanding the interplay of dimensional structures and signal transfer functions in natural and nano systems.

Abstract
Photocatalysis is a promising method to harness solar energy and use it to form fuels and other high-value chemicals, but most sensitizers used in photocatalytic reactions are complexes of rare and expensive metals such as ruthenium and iridium. Zinc dipyrromethene complexes have potential to be a more earth-abundant alternative, but their photophysical properties are largely unexplored. In this study, triplet state formation was quantified in two zinc dipyrromethene complexes, with and without heavy atoms, by transient absorption spectroscopy. Without heavy atoms, the triplet quantum yield was 16% in toluene and 27% in THF. With the addition of heavy I atoms, the triplet quantum yield increased to 62-63% and was insensitive to solvent polarity. The fact that in the absence of heavy atoms the triplet yield is affected by solvent polarity and in the presence of heavy atoms it is not suggests that triplet formation occurs through different pathways in the two complexes. These triplet yields meet or exceed those of successful organic photosensitizers, illustrating the potential for zinc dipyrromethene complexes as photosensitizers.

Abstract
A macrocyclic dipyrrin tetramer containing flexible m-phenylene linkages and its tetranuclear zinc(II) complex were synthesized. The obtained complex has an unsymmetrical figure-of-eight structure because of the conformational flexibility of the macrocyclic framework. The first μ-hydroxo- and μ-acetato-bridged dinuclear zinc(II) dipyrrin complex structure is realized in the twisted macrocyclic complex. Furthermore, the complex exhibited an efficient emission in toluene and chloroform.

Abstract
Few artificial systems can be exfoliated into, and observed as, single wires with lengths of more than several micrometers, and no previous example features a copolymer structure; this is in contrast with biopolymers such as single-strand DNAs. Here, we create a set of one-dimensional coordination copolymers featuring bis(dipyrrinato)zinc complex motifs in the main chain. A series of random copolymers is synthesized from two types of bridging dipyrrin proligand and zinc acetate, with various molar ratios between the proligands. Sonication of the bulk solid copolymer in organic solvent exfoliates single strands with lengths of 1.4 to 3.0 μm. Atomic force microscopy at ambient conditions visualizes the copolymer structure as height distributions. The copolymer structure improves its photoluminescence (up to 32%) relative to that of the corresponding homopolymers (3 and 10%). Numerical simulation based on a restricted random walk model reproduces the photoluminescence intensification, suggesting at the same time the existence of fast intrawire exciton hopping.

Abstract
We designed glutamide-derived amphiphilic Schiff bases containing three different aldehyde moieties for the fabrication of circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) emitting materials. Upon self-assembly in acetonitrile, Schiff bases featuring 4-(dimethylamino)-2-hydroxylbenzaldehyde and 1-hydroxy-2-naphthaldehyde groups form supramolecular gels with twist and fiber structures, respectively, whereas Schiff bases featuring 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde groups form precipitation with flake structures. Although emission and circular dichroism signals can be detected from the supramolecular gels formed by amphiphilic Schiff bases, none of them exhibits a circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). Although Mg2+, Zn2+, and Al3+ can significantly enhance the fluorescence of the Schiff bases, interestingly, only Al3+ ion is able to turn on the CPL emission. This study on the one hand provides a simple method for the fabrication of CPL-emitting supramolecular materials and on the other hand offers a novel way for the sensing of aluminum ion with supramolecular materials.

Abstract
The potential use of circularly polarized luminescence for object identification in a sensor application is demonstrated. New luminescence probes using pyrene derivatives as sensor luminophores were developed. (R,R)-Im2 Py and (S,S)-Im2 Py contain two chiral imidazole moieties at 1,6-positions through ethynyl spacers (angle between spacers ca. 180°). The probe molecules spontaneously self-assemble into chiral stacks (P or M helicity) upon coordination to metal ions with tetrahedral coordination (Zn2+ ). The chiral probes display neither circular dichroism (CD) nor circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) without metal ions. However, (R,R)-Im2 Py and (S,S)-Im2 Py exhibit intense chiroptical activity (CD and CPL) upon self-assembly with Zn2+ ions. (R,R)-Im2 Py and (S,S)-Im2 Py with chemical stimuli-responsibility allow sensing using the CPL signal as detection output, enabling us to discriminate between a signal from the target analyte and that from non-target species.

Abstract
![]()
In
this manuscript, we report the first synthesis of an organic
monomolecular emitter, which behaves as a circularly polarized luminescence
(CPL)-based ratiometric probe. The enantiopure helical ortho-oligo(phenylene)ethynylene (o-OPE) core has been
prepared by a new and efficient macrocyclization reaction. The combination
of such o-OPE helical skeleton and a pyrene couple
leads to two different CPL emission features in a single structure
whose ratio linearly responds to silver(I) concentration.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Typically, oxazolinyl metal complexes are synthesized in two steps, where the free ligand is prepared by the condensation reaction between a functionalized nitrile and an amino alcohol in the presence of a Lewis or Brønsted acid catalyst, followed by a further reaction with metal salts to obtain the corresponding metal complexes. Very often, the yield afforded by the two-step procedure is not high, and very few oxazolinyl zinc complexes have been prepared by this route. Given that metal-oxazoline complexes often contain Lewis acidic metals, it is conceivable that the two steps may be telescoped. RESULTS A series of novel chiral organozinc complexes 1-15 were assembled in a single step, All crystalline compounds were fully characterized, including the report of 15 X-ray crystal structures, including a wide structural diversity. CONCLUSIONS A series of novel chiral organozinc complexes were assembled in a single step, from nitriles, chiral D/L amino alcohols, and a stoichiometric amount of ZnCl2, with moderate to high yields (20-90%).

Abstract
Random poly(quinoxaline-2,3-diyl) copolymers, containing achiral 5,8-diarylquinoxaline units and chiral units bearing (S)-2-butoxymethyl groups, exhibited circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). The emission color was fully tunable by changing the aryl substituents on the 5,8-diarylquinoxaline units. An energy transfer from the quinoxaline main chain to the 5,8-diarylquinoxaline units was observed. The handedness of the CPL was dependent on the helical chirality of the polymer main chain, which could be switched by changing the solvent from CHCl3 to 1,1,2-trichloroethane or n-octane to cyclooctane, depending on the chiral side chain.

Abstract
New bis(dipyrrinato)zinc(II) complex micro- and nanosheets containing zinc(II) porphyrin (N2) are synthesized. A liquid/liquid interface method between dipyrrin porphyrin ligand L2 and zinc acetate produces N2 with a large domain size. N2 can be layered quantitatively onto a flat substrate by a modified Langmuir-Schäfer method. N2 deposited on a SnO2 electrode functions as a photoanode for a photoelectric conversion system. The photoresponse of N2 covers the whole visible wavelength range (400-650 nm), with a maximum quantum efficiency of more than twice that of a bis(dipyrrinato)zinc(II) complex nanosheet without porphyrin.
