Abstract
Herein, we invented the Cs2CO3-mediated atom economic method that streamlines the scission of the C(O)-S/Se bond involving the in situ generation of an anomeric thiolate/selenolate anion, which reacted with p-QMs to yield novel unsymmetrical gem-diarylmethylthio/seleno glycosides while retaining the anomeric stereochemistry. Notably, the key features of this protocol involve unprecedented long-range acyl transfer (from S/Se to O), thus affording acylation of the final product which is not yet reported by classical methods. This straightforward protocol offers a mild, short reaction time, synthetically simple approach, and compatibility with 8 types of sugar along with phenylthio/benzylseleno esters.

Abstract
We described a novel palladium-catalyzed domino procedure for the preparation of (hetero)aryl thio/selenoglycosides. Readily available (hetero)aryl iodides and easily accessible 1-thiosugars/1-selenosugars are utilized as the substrates. Meanwhile, 10 types of sugars are quite compatible with this reaction with good regio- and stereoselectivity, high efficiency, and broad applicability (up to 89%, 53 examples). This method enables the straightforward formation of the C(sp2)-S/Se bond of (hetero)aryl thio/selenoglycosides.

Abstract
A mild, convenient and transition-metal-free protocol for the synthesis of aryl 1-thioglycosides is presented via arynes generated in situ combined with glycosyl thiols in the presence of TBAF(tBuOH)4. The methodology provides a general and efficient way to prepare a series of functionalized thioglycosides in good to excellent yields with a perfect control of the anomeric configuration at room temperature. In addition, the reaction conditions tolerate a variety of the pentoses and hexoses, and the reaction also performs smoothly on protected monosaccharides and disaccharides.

Abstract
A highly efficient strategy for the direct thiolation of phenols under transition metal-free and solvent-free conditions has been developed. These reactions are operationally simple with employing air (molecular oxygen) as an ideal oxidant and can selectively provide mono- and dithiolation products in good to excellent yields under basic conditions. The reaction tolerates a broad range of aryl thiols and arenes and is especially applicable for large-scale synthesis.

Abstract
Methods for the O-arylation of hydroxyl and hemiacetal groups in carbohydrates via C(sp2)-O bond formation are discussed. Such methods provide an alternative disconnection to the traditional approach of nucleophilic substitution between a sugar-derived electrophile and a phenol or phenoxide nucleophile. They have led to new opportunities for stereoselectivity, site-selectivity and chemoselectivity in the preparation of O-aryl glycosides and carbohydrate-derived aryl ethers, compounds that are useful for a broad range of applications in medicinal chemistry, glycobiology and organic synthesis.

Abstract
We have discovered a new mode of reactivity of 1-thiosugars in the presence of Cu(II) or Co(II) for a stereoselective O-glycosylation reaction. The process involves the use of a catalytic amount of Cu(acac)2 or Co(acac)2 and Ag2CO3 as an oxidant in α,α,α-trifluorotoluene. Moreover, this protocol turned out to have a broad scope, allowing the preparation of a wide range of complex substituted O-glycoside esters in good to excellent yields with an exclusive 1,2-trans-selectivity. The late-stage modification of pharmaceuticals by this method was also demonstrated. To obtain a closer insight into the reaction mechanism, cyclic voltammetry was performed.

Abstract
An efficient intramolecular Pd-catalyzed N-arylation of o-iodo-amidosugars for the synthesis of N-glycosylated oxindoles has been reported. The coupling reaction takes place in toluene and involves Pd(OAc)2/RuPhos catalytic systems in the presence of K2CO3. This versatile approach was extended successfully to the synthesis of other N-glycosylated heterocycles.

Abstract
Direct and practical anomeric O-arylation of sugar lactols with substituted arylboronic acids has been established. Using copper catalysis at room temperature under an air atmosphere, the protocol proved to be general, and a variety of aryl O-glycosides have been prepared in good to excellent yields. Furthermore, this approach was extended successfully to unprotected carbohydrates, including α-mannose, and it was demonstrated here how the interaction between carbohydrates and boronic acids can be combined with copper catalysis to achieve selective anomeric O-arylation.

Abstract
We describe herein a Pd-catalyzed methodology for the thioglycoconjugation of iodoaryl peptides and aminoacids. This operationally simple process occurs under semi-aqueous conditions and displays wide substrate scope. The strategy has been successfully applied to both the thioglycosylation of unprotected peptides and the generation of thioglyco-aminoacid building blocks, including those suitable for solid phase peptide synthesis. To demonstrate the broad potential of this technique for late stage functionalization, we successfully incorporated challenging unprotected β-S-GlcNAc- and α-S-GalNAc-derivatives into very long unprotected peptides. This study opens the way to new applications in chemical biology, considering the well-recognized advantages of S-glycosides over O-glycosides in terms of resistance towards both enzymatic and chemical degradation.

Abstract
C-H activation has surfaced as an increasingly powerful tool for molecular sciences, with notable applications to material sciences, crop protection, drug discovery, and pharmaceutical industries, among others. Despite major advances, the vast majority of these C-H functionalizations required precious 4d or 5d transition metal catalysts. Given the cost-effective and sustainable nature of earth-abundant first row transition metals, the development of less toxic, inexpensive 3d metal catalysts for C-H activation has gained considerable recent momentum as a significantly more environmentally-benign and economically-attractive alternative. Herein, we provide a comprehensive overview on first row transition metal catalysts for C-H activation until summer 2018.

Abstract
The present review is devoted to summarizing the recent advances (2015-2017) in the field of metal-catalysed group-directed C-H functionalisation. In order to clearly showcase the molecular diversity that can now be accessed by means of directed C-H functionalisation, the whole is organized following the directing groups installed on a substrate. Its aim is to be a comprehensive reference work, where a specific directing group can be easily found, together with the transformations which have been carried out with it. Hence, the primary format of this review is schemes accompanied with a concise explanatory text, in which the directing groups are ordered in sections according to their chemical structure. The schemes feature typical substrates used, the products obtained as well as the required reaction conditions. Importantly, each example is commented on with respect to the most important positive features and drawbacks, on aspects such as selectivity, substrate scope, reaction conditions, directing group removal, and greenness. The targeted readership are both experts in the field of C-H functionalisation chemistry (to provide a comprehensive overview of the progress made in the last years) and, even more so, all organic chemists who want to introduce the C-H functionalisation way of thinking for a design of straightforward, efficient and step-economic synthetic routes towards molecules of interest to them. Accordingly, this review should be of particular interest also for scientists from industrial R&D sector. Hence, the overall goal of this review is to promote the application of C-H functionalisation reactions outside the research groups dedicated to method development and establishing it as a valuable reaction archetype in contemporary R&D, comparable to the role cross-coupling reactions play to date.

Abstract
Buchwald-Hartwig-Migita cross-coupling of 1-thiosugars with α- or β-3-iodo-N-glycosylquinolin-2-ones has been accomplished under mild and operationally simple reaction conditions through the use of a Pd-G3 XantPhos palladacycle precatalyst. This new methodology has been successfully applied to a variety of α- or β-mono-, di-, and poly-thiosugar derivatives to efficiently synthesize a series of α- or β-N,S-bis-glycosyl quinolin-2-ones, which are difficult to synthesize by classical methods.

Abstract
An efficient method for the thioglycoconjugation of iodinated oligonucleotides by Buchwald-Hartwig-Migita cross-coupling under mild conditions is reported. The method enables divergent synthesis of many different functionalized thioglycosylated ODNs in good yields, without affecting the integrity of the other A, C, and G nucleobases.

Abstract
A controllable method for the functionalization of XantPhos Pd-G3 precatalyst with thiosugars and thiols has been established. Under mild and operationally simple reaction conditions through just mixing of precatalyst and thiosugars (α- or β-mono-, di- and poly-thiosugar derivatives) in water at 25 °C for 20 min, a series of 1-aminobiphenyl thioglycosides that are difficult to synthesize by classical methods has been synthesized in very high yields.
