Abstract
Rising carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in the atmosphere are recognized as a threat to atmospheric stability and life. Although this greenhouse gas is being produced on a large scale, there are solutions to reduction and indeed utilization of the gas. Many of these solutions involve costly or unstable technologies, such as air-sensitive metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for CO2 capture or "non-green" systems such as amine scrubbing. Conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) represent a simpler, cheaper, and greener solution to CO2 capture and utilization. They are often easy to synthesize at scale (a one pot reaction in many cases), chemically and thermally stable (especially in comparison with their MOF and covalent organic framework (COF) counterparts, owing to their amorphous nature), and, as a result, cheap to manufacture. Furthermore, their large surface areas, tunable porous frameworks and chemical structures mean they are reported as highly efficient CO2 capture motifs. In addition, they provide a dual pathway to utilize captured CO2 via chemical conversion or electrochemical reduction into industrially valuable products. Recent studies show that all these attractive properties can be realized in metal-free CMPs, presenting a truly green option. The promising results in these two fields of CMP applications are reviewed and explored here.

Abstract
Thiols are essential functional groups imparting unique properties, such as reactivity and selectivity, to many vital enzymes and biomolecules. The integration of electronically soft thiol groups within metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) yields elevated reactivity and a pronounced affinity for soft metal ions. However, the scarcity of thiol-based ligands and synthetic challenges hinder the advancement of thiol-based MOFs. To bypass the difficulties of synthesizing thiol MOFs by a direct reaction between thiol-based ligands and corresponding metal salts, postsynthetic modification (PSM) of MOFs is an efficient strategy to introduce thiol functionality. Herein, we have introduced Ag nanoparticles in postsynthetically modified thiol MOFs UiO-66-NH-SH (1) (synthesized by reaction between UiO-66-NH2 and thioglycolic acid) and UiO-66-NH-SH (2) (synthesized by reaction between UiO-66-NH2 and 3-mercaptopropionic acid) to synthesize a series of heterogeneous catalysts for CO2 fixation. Catalysts Cat 1-2 and Cat 3 - 4 were synthesized from UiO-66-NH-SH (1) and UiO-66-NH-SH (2), respectively, by using varying concentrations of silver (AgNO3). Catalyst Ag@UiO-66-NH-SH (1) (Ag = 3.45%; namely Cat 2) shows the highest efficiency for the catalytic conversion of propargylic alcohol and terminal epoxide to the corresponding cyclic carbonates. Finally, a rationalized reaction mechanism is proposed by correlating our results with the current literature. This work presents a viable strategy to utilize the thiol functionality of MOFs (avoiding the complexities associated with synthesizing thiol MOFs directly from thiol ligands) as a platform for introducing catalytically active metal centers and applying them as a heterogeneous catalyst for CO2 fixation reactions.

Abstract
Copper nitrate hydroxide (CNH)-containing mesoporous silica nanoparticle (MSN) with g-C3N4 framework (MSN/C3N4/CNH) was fabricated via a four-step hydrothermal synthesis method. Functionalized MSN-based C3N4 was prepared, decorated with CNH, and identified by different physicochemical techniques such as FT-IR, XRD, SEM, EDX, and STA analyses. Then, MSN/C3N4/CNH composite was utilized as a robust catalyst for the fast fabrication of biologically active polyhydroquinoline derivatives with high yields between 88 and 97% via Hantzsch reaction under mild reaction conditions and short reaction time (within 15 min) owing to synergistic influence of Lewis acid and base sites. Moreover, MSN/C3N4/CNH can be straightforwardly recovered and used up to six reaction cycles without a conspicuous decrease in efficiency.

Abstract
Lanthanum(III) supported on the magnetic mesoporous organosilica nanoparticle (La@MON) has been described as an efficient, simple, and durable heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of 5-membered cyclic carbonates from carbon dioxide (CO2) and epoxides. Under optimized reaction conditions, various terminal epoxides have been converted to the corresponding carbonates in the presence of 0.3 mol% La@MON and 0.5 mol% tetrabutylammonium iodide (TBAI) as co-catalyst at relatively mild reaction conditions. It was also found that La@MON catalysts had significantly higher catalytic activity than some selected reference catalysts, which can be explained by the abundance of lanthanum(III) species acting as Lewis acidic sites for activating both carbon dioxide and epoxide molecules, along with the fact that the catalyst channels are short and provided facile mass transfer. The catalyst showed good reusability for at least five reaction cycles while the magnetic core of the catalyst helps the easy separation of the catalyst by just using an external magnet.

Abstract
Fabrication of porous materials from the standard sacrificial template method allows metal oxide nanostructures to be produced and have several applications in energy, filtration and constructing sensing devices. However, the low surface area of these nanostructures is a significant drawback for most applications. Here, we report the synthesis of ZnO/carbon composite monoliths in which carbon is used as a sacrificial template to produce zinc oxide (ZnO) porous nanostructures with a high specific surface area. The synthesized porous oxides of ZnO with a specific surface area of 78 m2/g are at least one order of magnitude higher than that of the ZnO nanotubes reported in the literature. The crucial point to achieving this remarkable result was the usage of a novel ZnO/carbon template where the carbon template was removed by simple heating in the air. As a high surface area porous nanostructured ZnO, these synthesized materials can be useful in various applications including catalysis, photocatalysis, separation, sensing, solar energy harvest and Zn-ion battery and as supercapacitors for energy storage.

Interaction Types in C 6H 5(CH 2) nOH-CO 2 ( n = 0-4) Determined by the Length of the Side Alkyl Chain. J Phys Chem Lett 2022; 13:149-155. Abstract
C6H5(CH2)nOH-CO2 complexes have been investigated using rotational spectroscopy (n = 0-2) complemented by quantum chemical calculations (n = 0-4), which implies that the side alkyl chain length can determine the types of intermolecular interactions. Unlike the in-plane C···O tetrel bond in phenol-CO2, the π*CO2···πaromatic interaction has been shown to link CO2 to phenylmethanol and 2-phenylethanol, which is, to the best of our knowledge, the first time it has been demonstrated by rotational spectroscopy. Further elongations of the side alkyl chain gradually increase the energies of intramolecular hydrogen bonds in 3-phenylpropanol and 4-phenylbutanol so that CO2 cannot break it. CO2 will be pushed farther from the monomers and link with the -OH group through a dominating C···O tetrel bond. Our observations would allow, with the choice of the proper length of the side alkyl chain, new strategies for engineering C···πaromatic-centered noncovalent bonding schemes for the capture, utilization, and storage of CO2.

Abstract
:
CO2 fixation reactions are of paramount interest both from economical and environmental perspectives. As an abundant, non-toxic, and renewable C1 feedstock, CO2 can be
utilized for the synthesis of fuels and commodity chemicals under elevated reaction conditions. The major challenge in the CO2 utilization reactions is its chemical inertness due to
high thermodynamic stability and kinetic barrier. The carboxylation of unsaturated hydrocarbons with CO2 is an important transformation as it forms high-value reaction products having
industrial as well as medicinal importance. This mini-review is mainly focused on the recent
developments in the homogeneously and heterogeneously catalyzed carboxylation of alkenes
and alkynes by using carbon dioxide as a reagent. We have highlighted various types of carboxylation reactions of alkenes and alkynes involving different catalytic systems, which
comprise mainly C-H bond activation, hydrocarboxylation, carbocarboxylation, heterocarboxylation, and ring-closing
carboxylation, including visible-light assisted synthesis processes. The mechanistic pathways of these carboxylation
reactions have been described. Moreover, challenges and future perspectives of these carboxylation reactions are discussed.

Abstract
The rotational spectrum of the 1 : 1 benzaldehyde-CO2 complex has been investigated using pulsed-jet Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy complemented with quantum chemical calculations. Two isomers, both characterized by one C⋯O tetrel bond (n → π* interaction) and one C-H⋯O hydrogen bond (n → σ* interaction), have been observed in the pulsed jet. Competition between the tetrel bond and the hydrogen bond has been disclosed by natural bond orbital analysis: isomer I is characterized by one dominating OCCO2⋯O tetrel bond (12.6 kJ mol-1) and a secondary (C-H)formyl⋯O hydrogen bond (2.2 kJ mol-1); by contrast, in isomer II the (C-H)phenyl⋯O hydrogen bond (7.6 kJ mol-1) becomes the dominant bond, while the OCCO2⋯O tetrel bond (5.8 kJ mol-1) becomes much weaker with respect to that of isomer I. Using intensity measurements the relative population ratio of the two isomers was estimated to be NI/NII ≈ 2/1.

Abstract
The development of new sustainable catalytic conversion methods of carbon dioxide (CO2) is of great interest in the synthesis of valuable chemicals. N-formylation of CO2 with amine nucleophiles as substrates has been studied in depth. The key to benign formylation is to select a suitable reducing agent to activate CO2. This paper showcases the activation modes of CO2 and the construction strategies of sustainable and catalyst-free N-formylation systems. The research progress of catalyst-free N-formylation of amines and CO2 is reviewed. There are two broad prominent categories, namely reductive amidation of CO2 facilitated by organic solvents and ionic liquids in the presence of hydrosilane. Attention is also paid to discussing the involved reaction mechanism with practical applications and identifying the remaining challenges in this field.

Abstract
To overcome the challenges of global warming and environmental pollution, it is necessary to reduce the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2 ) in the atmosphere, which is mainly accumulated in the air through the burning of fossil fuels. Therefore, the development of environmentally friendly strategies to capture carbon dioxide and convert it into value-added products offers a promising way forward for reducing carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere. In this context, POPs (porous organic polymers) have shown great potential as CO2 selective adsorbents due to their high specific surface area, chemical stability, nanoscale porosity and structural diversity, as well as POPs based heterogeneous catalysts for CO2 conversion. This review provides a concise account of preparation methods of various POPs, challenges and current development trends of POPs in photocatalytic CO2 reduction, electrocatalytic CO2 reduction and chemical CO2 conversion.

Abstract
Carboxylative cyclization of propargylic alcohols with CO2 is significant in synthetic chemistry, but harsh conditions are often needed according to reported results. Herein, a new stable nitro-functionalized metal-organic framework (MOF) of {[Co3(L)2(bpy)4(H2O)2]·DMF·H2O·bpy}n (1) was fabricated through the solvothermal reaction, which exhibited excellent stability in acid and basic solutions. Owing to the porous structure, unsaturated metal sites, and uncoordinated 4,4'-bpy ligands, 1 can serve as an excellent platform for catalytic applications. Hence, Ag(I) ions were incorporated in 1 through a postsynthetic method, and the as-synthesized Ag-1 catalyst with low metal loading (0.64 mol %) displayed excellent catalytic performance in the chemical fixation of CO2 with alkynols under room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The results of 1H NMR analyses further confirmed that Ag-1 can efficiently activate hydroxyl groups and promote the reaction. Moreover, the turnover frequency (TOF) of the Ag-1 catalyst can reach 262 h-1 in a short period of time, which is a high TOF value among the state-of-the-art MOF-based catalysts for catalyzing cycloaddition of CO2 with propargylic alcohols.

CO2 is one of the major environmental pollutants and its mitigation is attracting huge attention over the years due to continuous increase in this greenhouse gas emission in the atmosphere. Being environmentally hazardous and plentiful presence in nature, CO2 utilization as C1 resource into fuels and feedstock is very demanding from the green chemistry perspectives. To accomplish this CO2 utilization issue, functional organic materials like porous organic polymers (POPs), covalent organic frameworks (COFs) as well as organic-inorganic hybrid materials like metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), having characteristics of large surface area, high thermal stability and tunability in the porous nanostructures play significant role in designing the suitable catalyst for the CO2 hydrogenation reactions. Although CO2 hydrogenation is a widely studied and emerging area of research, till date review exclusively focused on designing POPs, COFs and MOFs bearing reactive functional groups is very limited. A thorough literature review on this matter will enrich our knowledge over the CO2 hydrogenation processes and the catalytic sites responsible for carrying out these chemical transformations. We emphasize recent state-of-the art developments in POPs/COFs/MOFs having unique functionalities and topologies in stabilizing metallic NPs and molecular complexes for the CO2 reduction reactions. The major differences between MOFs and porous organics are critically summarized in the outlook section with the aim of the future benefit in mitigating CO2 emission from ambient air.

Abstract
The development of efficient heterogeneous catalysts suitable for carbon capture and utilization (CCU) under mild conditions is a promising step towards mitigating the growing concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere. Herein, we report the construction of a hydrogen-bonded 3D framework, {[Zn(hfipbba)(MA)]⋅3 DMF}n (hfipbba=4,4'-(hexaflouroisopropylene)bis(benzoic acid)) (HbMOF1) utilizing ZnII center, a partially fluorinated, long-chain dicarboxylate ligand (hfipbba), and an amine-rich melamine (MA) co-ligand. Interestingly, the framework possesses two types of 1D channels decorated with CO2 -philic (-NH2 and -CF3 ) groups that promote the highly selective CO2 adsorption by the framework, which was supported by computational simulations. Further, the synergistic involvement of both Lewis acidic and basic sites exposed in the confined 1D channels along with high thermal and chemical stability rendered HbMOF1 a good heterogeneous catalyst for the highly efficient fixation of CO2 in a reaction with terminal/internal epoxides at mild conditions (RT and 1 bar CO2 ). Moreover, in-depth theoretical studies were carried out using periodic DFT to obtain the relative energies for each stage involved in the catalytic reaction and an insight mechanistic details of the reaction is presented. Overall, this work represents a rare demonstration of rational design of a porous ZnII MOF incorporating multiple functional sites suitable for highly efficient fixation of CO2 with terminal/internal epoxides at mild conditions supported by comprehensive theoretical studies.

Abstract
A dual-functional urea-linked conjugated porous polymer (UCPP) assembled by enol-imine with ordered unit arrays that act as potential anchoring sites in the networks was fabricated, and was further applied as a support for Ag nanoparticles by the coordinate interaction between them. The UCPP not only can well confine the Ag particle size and facilitate high dispersion, but also can afford special CO2-philic moieties to enhance the adsorption properties. The resulting Ag@UCPP as a heterogeneous catalyst exhibited excellent activity for the carboxylative cyclization of propargyl alcohols with CO2 under mild conditions, together with good recyclability, which is probably attributed to the synergistic effect of the UCPP on the adsorption and activation of CO2 and the immobilization of Ag nanoparticles. This work affords possible opportunities for the design and synthesis of a heterogeneous catalyst toward CO2 conversion.

Non-precious molybdenum nanospheres as a novel cocatalyst for full-spectrum-driven photocatalytic CO 2 reforming to CH 4. JOURNAL OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS 2020; 393:122324. Abstract
Photocatalytic CO2 reforming is considered to be an effective method for clean, low-cost, and environmentally friendly reduction and conversion of CO2 into hydrocarbon fuels by utilizing solar energy. However, the low separation efficiency of charge carriers and deficient reactive sites have severely hampered the efficiency of the photocatalytic CO2 reforming process. Therefore, cocatalysts are usually loaded onto the surface of semiconductor photocatalysts to reduce the recombination of charge carriers and accelerate the rates of surface reactions. Herein, molybdenum (Mo) nanospheres are proposed as a novel non-precious cocatalyst to enhance the photocatalytic CO2 reforming of g-C3N4 significantly. The Mo nanospheres boost the adsorption of CO2 and activate the surface CO2via a photothermal effect. The time-resolved fluorescence decay spectra reveals that the lifetime of photo-induced charge carriers is prolonged by the Mo nanospheres, which guarantees the migration of charge carriers from g-C3N4 to Mo nanospheres. Unexpectedly, Mo loaded g-C3N4 can effectively utilize a wide spectral range from UV to near-infrared region (NIR, up to 800 nm). These findings highlight the potential of Mo nanospheres as a novel cocatalyst for photocatalytic CO2 reforming to CH4.

Abstract
Multi-metallic hybrid nancatalysts consisting of a porous metal oxide host and metal satellite guests serve as a scaffold for multi-step transformations of divergent and energy-challenging substrates. Here we have developed a 3D porous MgO framework (Lewis basic host) with Ag0 nanoparticles (noble metal guest) for ambient pressure activation and insertion of CO2 into unsaturated alkyne substrates. The hybrid MgO@Ag-x (x = 2, 5, 7, 8 at % Ag) catalysts are synthesized by impregnating Ag+ ions in porous MgO cubes followed by reduction using NaBH4. Morphological (SEM, TEM, EDX mapping) and structural (PXRD, XPS) characterization reveal that the micron-sized hybrid cubes derive from self-assembly of ~100 nm (edge length) MgO cubes decorated with ~ 5 to 25 nm Ag0 NPs. Detailed XPS analysis illustrates Ag0 is present in two forms, <10 nm NPs and ~25 nm aggregates. The MgO@Ag-7 catalyst is effective for inserting CO2 into aryl alkynes followed by SN2 coupling with allylic chlorides to afford a wide range of ester and lactone heterocycles in excellent yields (61-93%) and with low E-factor (2.8). The proposed mechanism suggests a CO2 capture and substrate assembly role for 3D porous MgO while Ag0 performs the key activation of alkyne and CO2 insertion steps. The catalyst is recyclable (5x) with no significant loss of product yield. Overall, these results demonstrate viable approaches to hybrid catalyst development for challenging conversions such as CO2 utilization in a green and sustainable manner.

Abstract
In this work, perovskite structure of BaTiO3 was coupled with Fe2O3 in different molar ratios achieving the best photocatalytic performance of CO2 reduction in the presence of CH4 as reducing agent; both of them are main greenhouse gases. The photocatalysts were synthesized by facile hydrothermal method. The samples were characterized by XRD, FTIR, FESEM, EDX, UV-Vis DRS, and photoluminescence (PL) analyses. The BaTiO3 synthesized in this research showed a weak PL signal which is due to the intrinsic ferroelectric property as has been observed in previous reports. Compared to the pure BaTiO3 and Fe2O3, the heterojunctions exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity. The maximum CO2 reduction under visible light irradiation was obtained to be 22% during 60 min process time. The enhanced photocatalytic activity could be attributed to the increased optical absorption, the good separation, and immigration of photogenerated charge carriers that decreased the recombination rate of charge carriers in the n-n heterojunction.
