Abstract
BACKGROUND Behavioral lifestyles are important social determinants of health. The impact of changes in living arrangements on behavioral lifestyles is currently under-explored. This study aims to examine the association between living arrangements and health risk behaviors among the Hakka older adults. METHODS Data were extracted from China's Health-Related Quality of Life Survey for Older Adults 2018. Living arrangements were divided into five categories: living alone, living with spouse only, living with child, mixed habitation, and others. Five health risk behaviors, including unhealthy dietary patterns, drinking, smoking, irregular sleep practices, and physical inactivity were measured. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess the association between living arrangements and specific health risk behaviors, and generalized linear models were established to test the association between living arrangements and the number of health risk behaviors. RESULTS A total of 1,262 Hakka older adults were included in this study. Compared to those living alone, those living with spouse only were less likely to have unhealthy dietary patterns (OR = 0.45, P < 0.05) and drinking (OR = 0.50, P < 0.05), those living with the child were less likely to experience unhealthy dietary patterns (OR = 0.35, P < 0.001), drinking (OR = 0.32, P < 0.001), smoking (OR = 0.49, P < 0.05), and physical inactivity (OR = 0.13, P < 0.01). Moreover, those who were living with child (β = -0.78, P < 0.001) or mixed habitation (β = -0.33, P < 0.05) tended to engage in fewer health risk behaviors than those living alone. CONCLUSIONS This study suggests significant differences in health risk behaviors among the Hakka older adults with different living arrangements. Living with the child could reduce the occurrence of health risk behaviors in the Hakka older adults and thus maintain their health status.

Abstract
Background Although poor oral health and several lifestyle factors have been found to be associated with cancer risk, their joint relationship has rarely been studied. Methods We prospectively examined the associations of oral health and healthy lifestyle factors with cancer risk among 0.5 million rural and urban residents from the China Kadoorie Biobank (2004-2015). Oral health status was assessed from self-reported baseline questionnaires. A healthy lifestyle index comprising non-smoking, non-drinking, ideal body shape, physical activity and healthy diet was calculated for each participant, and categorized into favorable, intermediate and unfavorable lifestyle behavior. We calculated hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) relating oral health and healthy lifestyle index to cancer risk using Cox proportional hazards models. We estimated the population attributable risk percent (PAR%) and 95% CIs using multivariate models. Results During a median follow-up of 9 years, 23,805 new cancer cases were documented, with 52% from rural areas and 48% from urban areas. Compared with those with good oral health and favorable lifestyle, participants with poor oral health and unfavorable lifestyle had a higher risk of developing cancer in both rural (adjusted HR, 1.55 [95% CI, 1.39-1.74]; P for trend < 0.001) and urban areas (adjusted HR, 1.44 [95% CI, 1.24-1.67]; P for trend < 0.001). A significant multiplicative interaction between oral health and healthy lifestyle index on cancer risk was found in rural residents (P for interaction = 0.004) rather than in urban residents (P for interaction = 0.973). Assuming poor oral health as an additional risk factor, the PAR% of total cancer increased by 3.0% and 1.1% for participants with intermediate lifestyle and unfavorable lifestyle, respectively. Conclusions These findings suggest a joint effect of oral health and common lifestyle factors on cancer risk. Promotion of healthy lifestyle by integration of good oral health would be beneficial to consider in cancer prevention strategies.

The impact of a healthy lifestyle on the risk of esophageal and gastric cancer subtypes. Eur J Epidemiol 2022; 37:931-945. Abstract
Few prospective studies have been conducted on a combined healthy lifestyle and risk of esophageal and gastric cancer, and even less on subtypes: esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC), gastric cardia adenocarcinoma (GCA), and gastric non-cardia adenocarcinoma (GNCA). The relationship of a healthy lifestyle score (HLS) with risk of these cancers was investigated in the Netherlands Cohort Study. In 1986, 120,852 men and women aged 55–69 years provided information on dietary and lifestyle habits. The HLS was derived from information on smoking, body mass index, physical activity, Mediterranean diet adherence, and alcohol intake. After 20.3 years of follow-up, multivariable case-cohort analyses were based on 333 incident esophageal and 777 gastric cancer cases, and 3720 subcohort members with complete data on lifestyles and confounders. The impact of changing to healthy lifestyles was estimated with the rate advancement period (RAP). The HLS was significantly inversely associated with risk of esophageal and gastric cancer, and subtypes (except EAC), in a linear fashion. The observed HR decrease per 1-point increase in HLS was 31% for esophageal, and 19% for gastric cancer, 49% for ESCC, 23% for GCA, and 18% for GNCA. The RAP per 1-point increase in HLS ranged from − 11.75 years for ESCC to − 2.85 years for GNCA. Also after excluding smoking, inverse associations between the HLS and esophageal and gastric cancer risk were still apparent. These results suggest that adhering to a combination of healthy modifiable lifestyle factors may substantially reduce the risk of esophageal and gastric cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS There is increasing evidence that lifestyle factors play an important role in the development of hypertension and dyslipidemia. However, existing research usually evaluated these risk factors individually (such as physical activity, smoking, drinking, obesity and so on), rather than joint evaluation. The aim of this study was to quantify the association between a combination of a healthy lifestyle and the risk of hypertension and dyslipidemia. METHODS AND RESULT A healthy lifestyle score was created based on 4 factors: never smoking, moderate to high-intensive physical activity, no alcohol drinking, and normal body mass index. We calculated the healthy lifestyle score using the cumulative number of health factors for each individual. Also, a multivariate analysis was used to assess the relationship between healthy lifestyle and hypertension and dyslipidemia. Among 6446 participants, 650 (10.08%) had lowest healthy lifestyle score (0) and 627 (9.72%) had highest healthy lifestyle score (4), respectively. The adjustment model indicated that participants with the highest score (score: 4), which integrated the four lifestyles, had significantly lower ORs for hypertension compared with the lowest score (score: 0) (0.21; (95%CI: 0.10, 0.43 P-trend< 0.001)). In the adjustment models, compared with lowest healthy lifestyle score, the ORs of highest healthy lifestyle score was: 0.17; (95%CI: 0.07, 0.42 P-trend<0.001) for dyslipidemia. CONCLUSION Hypertension and dyslipidemia were negatively correlated with healthy lifestyle score. Interventions with healthy lifestyle to reduce hypertension, dyslipidemia and promote population health are warranted.

Abstract
Flavonoids are the main active ingredient in Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride (CRPV). In this study, a deep eutectic solvent (DES) was explored to extract the main flavonoids from CRPV, including narirutin (NAR) and hesperidin (HES). A total of 30 DESs were prepared, and DES-20 (proline : urea) was selected as the optimal solvent. According to the single factor and response surface methodology experiments, the optimal extraction conditions for the flavonoids included a molar ratio of 1 : 2, water content of 30%, extraction time of 28 min, extraction power of 240 W, and a liquid-to-solid ratio of 70 mL g−1 and the optimal extraction yields of NAR and HES were 21 ± 2 mg g−1 and 60 ± 2 mg g−1, respectively. The recovery rate of NAR and HES with macroporous resin SP825 were 88 ± 3% and 86 ± 4%, respectively. Compared with traditional extraction methods, this novel method greatly improved extraction efficiency and saved time. Scanning electron microscopy results showed that this novel method could destroy the plant cell wall to enhance the extraction efficiency. Then, 21 flavonoids were identified through an ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS) technique and nine of them were discovered for the first time in CRPV extracts. Furthermore, a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was simultaneously used to determine NAR and HES in CRPV extracts upon methodological validation. Finally, antioxidant and cytotoxic experiments in vitro showed that the flavonoids extracted from the CRPV exhibited certain antioxidant and cytotoxic activities. The above results indicated that the DES was a green solvent, which can effectively extract NAR and HES from CRPV. Abstract
Promoting a healthy diet through education is part of the Healthy China 2030 action plan. However, studies examining how dietary knowledge affects public health in China are sparse. This study employs multiple waves of the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) data to examine the impacts of dietary knowledge on Chinese adults' health, with a particular emphasis on how the impacts of dietary knowledge vary across different demographic groups. Moreover, we contribute to the literature by incorporating the spouse's dietary knowledge into the analysis framework to inspect the relationship between a spouse's dietary knowledge and an individual's health. Our results indicate that dietary knowledge significantly improves an individual's health status. However, there is no evidence that an individual's health is influenced by his/her spouse's dietary knowledge. Moreover, we find that individuals with a lower level of education and rural residents benefit more from increasing dietary knowledge. Policy implications of this study are also discussed.

Abstract
Aims
The role of tea consumption in the primary prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease remains unclear in cohort studies. This prospective cohort study aimed to investigate the associations of tea consumption with the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality.
Methods
We included 100,902 general Chinese adults from the project of Prediction for ASCVD Risk in China (China-PAR) in 15 provinces across China since 1998. Information on tea consumption was collected through standardized questionnaires. Outcomes were identified by interviewing study participants or their proxies, and checking hospital records and/or death certificates. Cox proportional hazard regression models were used to calculate hazard ratios and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals related to tea consumption.
Results
During a median follow-up of 7.3 years, 3683 atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease events, 1477 atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease deaths, and 5479 all-cause deaths were recorded. Compared with never or non-habitual tea drinkers, the hazard ratio and 95% confidence interval among habitual tea drinkers was 0.80 (0.75–0.87), 0.78 (0.69–0.88), and 0.85 (0.79–0.90) for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease incidence, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease mortality, and all-cause mortality, respectively. Habitual tea drinkers had 1.41 years longer of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease-free years and 1.26 years longer of life expectancy at the index age of 50 years. The observed inverse associations were strengthened among participants who kept the habit during the follow-up period.
Conclusion
Tea consumption was associated with reduced risks of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality, especially among those consistent habitual tea drinkers.

BACKGROUND Studies on the association between healthy lifestyle and cancer risk are limited among the old Chinese population. METHODS The healthy lifestyle score was derived from smoking, drinking, diet, body mass index and physical activity among 23734 retired employees from the Dongfeng-Tongji Cohort. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to calculate the hazard ratios (HRs) and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The rate advancement periods (RAPs) and the population attributable risk percentage (PAR%) were estimated to indicate the benefits of removing risk lifestyle factors. RESULTS During a median follow-up of 8.16 years, 2023 cancer cases were identified. Compared with 0-2 points of the healthy lifestyle score, the HRs were 0.87 (95% CI: 0.76, 0.99), 0.83 (95% CI: 0.73, 0.94), and 0.74 (95% CI: 0.64, 0.86) for 3, 4, and 5 points, respectively, with the corresponding RAPs of -4.40 (95% CI: -8.39, -0.41), -5.84 (95% CI: -9.77, -1.90), and -9.14 (95% CI: -14.03, -4.25), respectively. Approximately 15% of incident cancer cases among total population and 22% among men would be prevented by following all 5 healthy lifestyle factors. CONCLUSIONS The current study suggests that healthy lifestyle could reduce cancer risk in the retired Chinese population, especially in males. Key messages Healthy lifestyle derived by smoking, drinking, diet, body mass index and physical activity presented a strong protective effect on cancer risk among the retired Chinese population, especially in males. We employed the rate advancement periods and the population attributable risk percentage to indicate the benefits of adopting healthy lifestyle and we found that following all 5 healthy lifestyle factors could delay the risk of developing cancer by 9.14 years and prevent 15% of incident cancer cases.

Abstract
The morbidity and mortality of lung cancer are increasing. The Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by novel coronavirus 2019-nCoV-2, leading to subsequent pulmonary interstitial fibrosis with chronic inflammatory changes, e.g., inflammatory factors repeatedly continuously stimulating and attacking the alveolar epithelial cells. Meanwhile, 2019-nCoV-2 can activate PI3K/Akt and ERK signaling pathways, which can play the double roles as both anti-inflammatory and carcinogenic factors. Moreover, hypoxemia may be developed, resulting in the up-regulation of HIF-1 α expression, which can be involved in the occurrence, angiogenesis, invasion and metastasis of lung cancer. Additionally, the immune system in 2019-nCoV-2 infected cases can be suppressed to cause tumor immune evasion. Therefore, we speculate that COVID-19 may be a risk factor of secondary lung cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The association of milk intake with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cause-specific mortality remained controversial and evidence among the Chinese population was limited. We aimed to study the relationship between milk intake and CVDs among general Chinese adults. METHODS A total of 104,957 participants received questionnaire survey. Results of physical examination such as anthropometric measurements and biochemical tests during 2007 to 2008, demographic data and their information on milk intake were collected through standardized questionnaires. Cox proportional hazard regression models were used to calculate hazard ratios (HRs) and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of CVD incidence, cause-specific mortality and all-cause mortality related to milk intake. Restricted cubic splines (RCSs) were applied to examine dose-response associations. RESULTS Among the 91,757 participants with a median follow-up period of 5.8 years, we documented 3877 CVD cases and 4091 all-cause deaths. Compared with participants who never consumed milk, the multivariate-adjusted HRs (95% CIs) of CVD incidence for 1 to 150 g/day, 151 to 299 g/day, and ≥300 g/day were 0.94 (0.86-1.03) (P > 0.05), 0.77 (0.66-0.89) (P < 0.05), and 0.59 (0.40-0.89) (P < 0.05), respectively; each 100 g increase of daily milk intake was associated with 11% lower risk of CVD incidence (HR, 0.89; 95% CI: 0.85-0.94; P < 0.001), and 11% lower risk of CVD mortality (HR, 0.89; 95% CI: 0.82-0.97; P = 0.008) after adjustment for age, sex, residential area, geographic region, education level, family history of CVD, smoking, alcohol drinking, physical activity level, body mass index, and healthy diet status (ideal or not). RCS analyses also showed a linear dose-response relationship with CVD (P for overall significance of the curve <0.001; P for non-linearity = 0.979; P for linearity <0.001) and stroke (P for overall significance of the curve = 0.010; P for non-linearity = 0.998; P for linearity = 0.002) incidence, and CVD mortality (P for overall significance of the curve = 0.045; P for non-linearity = 0.768; P for linearity = 0.014) within the current range of daily milk intake. CONCLUSIONS Daily milk intake was associated with lower risk of CVD incidence and mortality in a linear inverse relationship. The findings provide new evidence for dietary recommendations in CVD prevention among Chinese adults and people with similar dietary pattern in other countries.
