Abstract
Advances in cancer screening and treatment have improved survival after a diagnosis of cancer. As the number of cancer survivors as well as their overall life-expectancy increases, investigations of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) are critical in understanding the factors that promote the optimal experience over the course of survivorship. However, there is a dearth of information on determinants of HRQOL for African American cancer survivors as the vast majority of cohorts have been conducted predominantly among non-Hispanic Whites. In this review, we provide a review of the literature related to HRQOL in cancer survivors including those in African Americans. We then present a summary of published work from the Detroit Research on Cancer Survivors (ROCS) cohort, a population-based cohort of more than 5000 African American cancer survivors. Overall, Detroit ROCS has markedly advanced our understanding of the unique factors contributing to poorer HRQOL among African Americans with cancer. This work and future studies will help inform potential interventions to improve the long-term health of this patient population.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The COVID-19 pandemic disproportionately affected older adults, particularly those with pre-existing chronic health conditions. To address the health disparity and challenges faced by under-resourced African American older adults in South Los Angeles during this period, we implemented a hybrid (virtual/in-person), pre-post, community-based participatory intervention research project utilizing a faith-based lay health advisor model (COVID-19 Health Ambassador Program (CHAP)). We recruited COVID-19 Health Ambassadors (CHAs) and African American older adults (participants) from faith-based organizations who partook in CHA-led meetings and follow-ups that educated and supported the participants. This paper seeks to evaluate this intervention's implementation using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) as a reporting tool with an emphasis on fidelity, challenges, and adaptations based on data collected via stakeholder interviews and surveys. RESULTS CHAP was delivered to 152 participants by 19 CHAs from 17 faith-based organizations. CHAs assisted with chronic disease management, resolved medication-related challenges, encouraged COVID-19 vaccination, reduced psychological stress and addressed healthcare avoidance behaviors such as COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among the participants. Challenges encountered include ensuring participant engagement and retention in the virtual format and addressing technological barriers for CHAs and participants. Adaptations made to better suit the needs of participants included providing communication tools and additional training to CHAs to improve their proficiency in using virtual platforms in addition to adapting scientific/educational materials to suit our participants' diverse cultural and linguistic needs. CONCLUSION The community-centered hybrid approach in addition to our partnership with faith-based organizations and their respective COVID-19 health ambassadors proved to be essential in assisting underserved African American older adults manage chronic health conditions and address community-wide health disparities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Adaptability, cultural sensitivity, and teamwork are key to implementing health interventions especially in underserved populations.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on depression, anxiety, and loneliness between those with and without a history of cancer. DESIGN This prospective observational study used a quantitative approach. PARTICIPANTS Adult members of the Kaiser Permanente Research Bank (N = 104,640). METHODS Participants completed a series of surveys from May to December 2020. The difference in score of depression, anxiety, and loneliness were estimated using linear mixed regression. FINDINGS Among cancer survivors, 21% and 19% met the thresholds for increased risk of depression and anxiety. Among cancer survivors, younger age groups and females reported increased depression, anxiety, and loneliness scores. CONCLUSIONS This study highlights the continued necessity of addressing mental health needs and social support in cancer survivors during and after a public health emergency. IMPLICATIONS FOR PSYCHOSOCIAL PROVIDERS Cancer survivors may need particular resources after cancer treatment to strengthen resilience and improve quality of life.

Abstract
PURPOSE The extent to which adults with cancer during early survivorship experienced disruptions in care due to COVID-19 pandemic, as well as their experiences with the transition to telemedicine, remains understudied. METHODS We examined cancer care disruption and satisfaction with telemedicine due to COVID-19 in 361 adults (Mage = 59.42, SD = 11.3) with breast, prostate or colorectal cancer during early survivorship. The Telemedicine Satisfaction and Usefulness Questionnaire (TSUQ) and patient self-report Cancer Care Disruption Index (CCDI) was administered via RedCap survey. RESULTS The most prevalent areas of patient-reported cancer care disruption included supportive care appointments canceled/postponed (57%), in-person appointments changed to virtual appointments (56%), social work services canceled (32%), palliative care appointments canceled/postponed (24%), elective surgeries related to cancer postponed (23%), and screening tests postponed (19%). Regarding patient satisfaction with telemedicine, 78.0% "agree" or "strongly agree" that they were satisfied with the overall telemedicine system. Most survivors reported satisfaction with their doctor dealing with problems (88.2%), doctors answering patient questions (92.7%), and engaged patients in care (86.1%), However, 49.3% of cancer patients disagreed that virtual visits are as satisfying as in-person visits and 35.6% were dissatisfied with the lack of physical contact during virtual visits. CONCLUSION The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted cancer survivorship care, with supportive care, social work services, and mode of delivery (in-person vs. virtual) particularly affected. The downstream impact of cancer care disruption in those living with cancer during the pandemic as well as the quality of telehealth modality as part of cancer survivorship care delivery await future investigation.

Abstract
BackgroundThere is a paucity of research examining the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the healthy lifestyle behaviors of hematological cancer patients. We examined changes in healthy lifestyle behaviors since the pandemic and identified factors associated with these changes among members of this high-risk population.MethodsHematological cancer patients (n = 394) completed a self-report online survey from July to August 2020. The survey assessed pandemic-related changes in exercise, alcohol consumption, and consumption of fruit, vegetables, and wholegrains. Information relating to several demographic, clinical, and psychological factors was also collected. Factors associated with changes in healthy lifestyle behaviors were analyzed using logistic regression.ResultsJust 14% of patients surveyed reported exercising more during the pandemic (39% exercised less). Only a quarter (24%) improved their diet, while nearly half (45%) reported eating less fruit, vegetables, and wholegrains. Just over a quarter (28%) consumed less alcohol (17% consumed more alcohol). Fear of contracting COVID-19 and psychological distress were significantly associated with reduced exercise. Younger age was significantly associated with both increased alcohol consumption and increased exercise. Being a woman was significantly associated with unfavorable changes in diet and being married was significantly associated with decreased alcohol consumption.ConclusionA substantial proportion of hematological cancer patients reported unfavorable changes in healthy lifestyle behaviors during the pandemic. Results highlight the importance of supporting healthy lifestyle practices among this particularly vulnerable group to ensure health is optimized while undergoing treatment and when in remission, particularly during crisis times like the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract
Background With improved cancer survival, death from noncancer etiologies, especially cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality, has come more into focus. Little is known about the racial and ethnic disparities in all-cause and CVD mortality among U.S. cancer patients. Objectives This study sought to investigate racial and ethnic disparities in all-cause and CVD mortality among adults with cancer in the United States. Methods Using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database from years 2000 to 2018, all-cause and CVD mortality among patients ≥18 years of age at the time of initial malignancy diagnosis were compared by race and ethnicity groups. The 10 most prevalent cancers were included. Cox regression models were used to estimate adjusted HRs for all-cause and CVD mortality using Fine and Gray's method for competing risks, as applicable. Results Among a total of 3,674,511 participants included in our study, 1,644,067 (44.7%) died, with 231,386 (6.3%) deaths as a result of CVD. After adjusting for sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, non-Hispanic (NH) Black individuals had both higher all-cause (HR: 1.13; 95% CI: 1.13-1.14) and CVD (HR: 1.25; 95% CI: 1.24-1.27) mortality, whereas Hispanic and NH Asian/Pacific Islander had lower mortality than NH White patients. Racial and ethnic disparities were more prominent among patients 18 to 54 years of age and those with localized cancer. Conclusions Significant racial and ethnic differences exist in both all-cause and CVD mortality among U.S. cancer patients. Our findings underscore the vital roles of accessible cardiovascular interventions and strategies to identify high-risk cancer populations who may benefit most from early and long-term survivorship care.

Abstract
The number of cancer survivors continues to increase in the United States due to the growth and aging of the population as well as advances in early detection and treatment. To assist the public health community in better serving these individuals, the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute collaborate triennially to estimate cancer prevalence in the United States using incidence and survival data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results cancer registries, vital statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics, and population projections from the US Census Bureau. Current treatment patterns based on information in the National Cancer Database are presented for the most prevalent cancer types by race, and cancer-related and treatment-related side-effects are also briefly described. More than 18 million Americans (8.3 million males and 9.7 million females) with a history of cancer were alive on January 1, 2022. The 3 most prevalent cancers are prostate (3,523,230), melanoma of the skin (760,640), and colon and rectum (726,450) among males and breast (4,055,770), uterine corpus (891,560), and thyroid (823,800) among females. More than one-half (53%) of survivors were diagnosed within the past 10 years, and two-thirds (67%) were aged 65 years or older. One of the largest racial disparities in treatment is for rectal cancer, for which 41% of Black patients with stage I disease receive proctectomy or proctocolectomy compared to 66% of White patients. Surgical receipt is also substantially lower among Black patients with non-small cell lung cancer, 49% for stages I-II and 16% for stage III versus 55% and 22% for White patients, respectively. These treatment disparities are exacerbated by the fact that Black patients continue to be less likely to be diagnosed with stage I disease than White patients for most cancers, with some of the largest disparities for female breast (53% vs 68%) and endometrial (59% vs 73%). Although there are a growing number of tools that can assist patients, caregivers, and clinicians in navigating the various phases of cancer survivorship, further evidence-based strategies and equitable access to available resources are needed to mitigate disparities for communities of color and optimize care for people with a history of cancer. Abstract
This scoping review mapped the main themes in existing expert guidelines for cancer care issued during the COVID-19 crisis from the period of March 2020-August 2021. The guidelines published during the research period principally relate to the first two waves in Europe and until the beginning of the vaccination campaign. They elaborated recommendations for cancer care reorganisation, in particular triage and quality of care issues. The article highlights the ethical, epistemological, as well as practical reasons that guidelines were not always followed to provide some lessons learned for future crises to enable better guideline development processes. We also elaborate early evidence on the impact of triage decisions and different perspectives on cancer care reorganisation from ethics and social science literature.
