Abstract
Homogeneous and heterogeneous reactions wherein the resulting products remain dissolved in solvents generally require complicated separation and purification process, despite the advantage of heterogeneous systems allowing retrieval of catalysts. Herein, we have developed an efficient approach for the one-pot tandem synthesis of quinazolines, quinazolinones and benzothiadiazine 1,1-dioxides from alcohols and amines utilizing a bifunctional bipyridinium photocatalyst with redox and Lewis acid sites using air as an oxidant. Through solvent-modulation strategy, the photocatalytic system exhibits high performance and enables most products to separate spontaneously. Consequently, the homogeneous catalyst can be reused by direct centrifugation isolation of the products. Notably, the method is also applicable to the less active substrates, such as heterocyclic alcohols and aliphatic alcohols, and thus provides an efficient and environmentally friendly photocatalytic route with spontaneous separation of N-heterocycles to reduce production costs and meet the needs of atomic economy and green chemistry.

Abstract
N-Heterocycles, such as pyrroles, pyrimidines, quinazolines, and quinoxalines, are important building blocks for organic chemistry and the fine-chemical industry. For their synthesis, catalytic borrowing hydrogen and acceptorless dehydrogenative coupling reactions of alcohols as sustainable reagents have received significant attention in recent years. To overcome the problems of product separation and catalyst reusability, several metal-based heterogeneous catalysts have been reported to achieve these transformations with good yields and selectivity. In this Minireview, we summarize recent developments using both noble and non-noble metal-based heterogeneous catalysts to synthesize N-heterocycles from alcohols and N-nucleophiles via acceptorless dehydrogenation or borrowing hydrogen methodologies. Furthermore, this Minireview introduces strategies for the preparation and functionalization of the corresponding heterogeneous catalysts, discusses the reaction mechanisms and the roles of metal electronic states, and the influence of support Lewis acid-base properties on these reactions.

Advances of the highly efficient and stable visible light active photocatalyst Zr(IV)-phthalate coordination polymer for the degradation of organic contaminants in water. Abstract
This work presents the restoration of the Zr-phthalate coordination polymer (Zr-Ph CP) via valuable application in photocatalysis. Zr-Ph CP was facilely synthesized using a soft hydrothermal method at 70 °C, and was characterized utilizing FTIR, Raman Spectrosopy, XPS, PXRD, SEM/EDX, BET, and a hyperspectral camera. Assessment of its photocatalytic degradation potential was performed against two different dyes, the cationic methylene blue (MB) and the anionic methyl orange (MO), as frequent models of organic contaminants, under properly selected mild visible illumination (9 W) where the bandgap energy (Eg) was determined to be 2.72 eV. Effects of different initial pH values and different dyes' initial concentrations were covered. Photocatalytic degradation studies showed that Zr-Ph CP effectively degraded both dyes for initial pH 7 within about 40-60 minutes. Degradation rate constants were calculated as 0.17 and 0.13 min-1 for MB and MO, respectively. Generally, both direct and indirect mechanisms share in the degradation, where adsorption has shown an important role. The repeated use of Zr-Ph CP does not significantly affect its photocatalytic performance suggesting high water stability.

Abstract
Co nanoparticles (NPs) encapsulated in N-doped carbon nanotubes (Co@NC900 ) are systematically investigated as a potential alternative to precious Pt-group catalysts for hydrogenative heterocyclization reactions. Co@NC900 can efficiently catalyze hydrogenative coupling of 2-nitroaniline to benzaldehyde for synthesis of 2-phenyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazole with >99 % yield at ambient temperature in one step. The robust Co@NC900 catalyst can be easily recovered by an external magnetic field after the reaction and readily recycled for at least six times without any evident decrease in activity. Kinetic experiments indicate that Co@NC900 -promoted hydrogenation is the rate-determining step with a total apparent activation energy of 41±1 kJ mol-1 . Theoretical investigations further reveal that Co@NC900 can activate both H2 and the nitro group of 2-nitroaniline. The observed energy barrier for H2 dissociation is only 2.70 eV in the rate-determining step, owing to the presence of confined Co NPs in Co@NC900 . Potential industrial application of the earth-abundant and non-noble transition metal catalysts is also explored for green and efficient synthesis of heterocyclic compounds.
