Abstract
Hemangiopericytomas (HPCs) are rare vascular tumors, and head and neck hemangiopericytoma (HNHPC) accounts for 11% to 16% of all HPCs, possibly occurring at any age. However, according to a recent study, HNHPC was most frequently observed in middle-aged adults and had a slight predominance of female patients. In the present case, we report the successful treatment of HNHPC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Head and neck solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare neoplasms, with few large-scale studies describing this entity. We evaluated the demographics and correlates of survival in a large series of SFT patients. METHODS The 2004-2017 National Cancer Database was queried for head and neck SFT patients receiving definitive surgery. Cox proportional-hazards and Kaplan-Meier analyses assessed overall survival (OS). RESULTS Of 135 patients, sinonasal (33.1%) and orbital (25.9%) SFTs were most common. Approximately 93% of SFTs were invasive and 64% were classified as hemangiopericytomas. The 5-year OS of skull base SFTs (84.5%) was lower than sinonasal (98.7%) and orbital (90.7%) SFTs (all p < 0.05). Government insurance exhibited higher mortality (HR 5.116; p < 0.001) and lower OS (p = 0.001). CONCLUSION Head and neck SFTs presented with distinct prognoses based on anatomical origin. Overall survival was particularly worse in patients with skull base SFTs or government insurance. Prognostically, hemangiopericytomas were indistinct from other SFTs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Solitary fibrous tumor/hemangiopericytoma (SFT/HPCT) is a rare tumor characterized by high recurrence rate and metastatic potential, even after surgical resection. We report on the clinical outcomes and risk factors for metastasis and progression-free survival (PFS) of patients diagnosed with SFT/HPCT. METHODS We retrospectively identified patients with intracranial or spinal SFT/HPCT who underwent surgical resection and/or radiation therapy at our institution between 1995 and 2021. Baseline demographics, tumor characteristics, and outcome data were collected, and factors associated with PFS and metastasis were analyzed. RESULTS Thirty-four subjects (mean age, 46.4 years; 44% female) with a histopathologically proven diagnosis of SFT/HPCT were included; the median follow-up was 89.7 months. Twenty-two tumors were supratentorial (67%), 6 (18%) were infratentorial, and 5 (15%) were spinal. Eleven patients had documented occurrence of metastasis (32%). Detailed preoperative and postoperative data were available for 25 patients (74%) who received treatment at our institution after their initial diagnosis. Of those, 20 (80%) underwent gross total resection (GTR), and 12 (48%) received either adjuvant or salvage radiotherapy. Univariate analyses revealed that males had a shorter mean PFS compared with females (25 months vs. 78 months; P = 0.01), and that patients who underwent GTR had a longer mean PFS compared with those who underwent subtotal resection (54 months vs. 23 months; P = 0.02). Male sex was the sole risk factor for metastasis (odds ratio, 6.75; 95% confidence interval, 1.19-38.02). CONCLUSIONS Our data demonstrate a strong association between male sex and the outcomes of shorter PFS and higher risk for metastases. Further research is warranted to understand the clinical characteristics and outcomes of this rare tumor.

Large hemangiopericytoma of the shoulder: A case report. VOJNOSANIT PREGL 2022. Abstract
Introduction. Hemangiopericytoma is a rare tumour derived from the pericytes, contractile spindle cells that surround the capillaries and postcapillary venules. The tumour is found equally among males and females. Case report. We reported a case of a 63-year-old female who presented a giant painful mass on her right shoulder that occurred one year before admission. Limited range of motion and a sense of tingling along the affected arm was present also. An irregular, oval-shaped mass, dark red in colour, with signs of necrosis, was 14 cm in maximum diameter. Routine laboratory analysis showed results within the range of referenced values. Lung X-ray and ultrasonographic examination of the abdomen showed no signs of secondary tumour deposits, and no osteomuscular lesions in the affected region. Ultrasonographic examination of the neck and right axillary region showed no signs of regional metastases. The surgical excision of the entire tumour was performed, with the associated subcutaneous tissue and a part of fascia underneath. Results of the histopathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of hemangiopericytoma. The specimen showed no signs or elements of the neoplastic tissue on the edges of the resection lines. Three years after the operation, there were no signs of tumour relapses, regional or systemic metastases. Conclusion. Considering that there are no official clinical guides and protocols for hemangiopericytoma management, as well as the occurrence of cutaneous and subcutaneous heman-giopericytomas is exceptionally rare, more extensive research in this field and more described cases are needed to gain a better understanding of the issue.

Abstract
Clinical factors associated with the behavior and outcomes of nonbenign, head, and neck vascular tumors in children are not well described. Our aim is to provide descriptive information and identify prognostic factors associated with lower overall survival for children with these types of tumors. A retrospective cohort study was performed using the SEER database (years 1973-2015). Children aged 18 years and under with the diagnosis of a vascular tumor with locally aggressive or borderline and malignant behavior, classified by ICD-O-3, within the head and neck were included. Vascular tumors with benign behavior as classified by ISSVA were excluded. One hundred forty-eight children were identified. Mean age was 9.9 years (SD = 6.4). A gender predilection was noted with more males affected, female (37.8%) and male (62.2%), P = 0.0031. Majority of the children were white (79.4%) and angiosarcoma was the most common histologic subtype (68.2%). Children had a significantly better overall survival than adults with head and neck vascular tumors, P < 0.0001. Univariate and multivariate analysis did not reveal any factors with significant association to overall survival. Vascular tumors in the head and neck in children most commonly affect males and white children, with angiosarcoma as the most common histologic subtype. Children seem to have a more favorable overall survival compared to adults.

Abstract
RATIONALE Hemangiopericytoma (HPC) is a rare pediatric neoplasm with a high risk of bleeding, aggressive growth and high early relapse rates. Surgical excision remains the mainstream treatment, while the functions of chemotherapy and radiotherapy remain controversial. In particular, an infantile giant extracranial HPC located in the forehead has never been reported. PATIENT CONCERNS A 3-day-old girl was delivered normally with a giant tumor localized mainly in the right frontal region. The surface of the mass was filled with vascularity. DIAGNOSIS According to the results of imaging and pathological examinations, the diagnosis was HPC grade II. INTERVENTIONS Gross total resection of the tumor and the invading partial frontal bone followed by skin scalp reconstruction was carried out without any blood transfusion. OUTCOMES No recurrence was identified during 5 years of follow-up. And better outcomes can be achieved without adjuvant therapy. LESSONS Multimodality imaging and a collaborative multidisciplinary approach are indispensable for the successful surgical management of infantile HPC, especially for giant tumors and their potential risk of life-threatening bleeding. Gross total resection is the optimal option for infantile HPC, and even without adjuvant therapy, it achieves better outcomes.

Abstract
Solitary fibrous tumors/hemangiopericytomas (SFT/HPC) are soft tissue tumors that can arise from the abdomen, pleura, head and neck, or extremities. We report an unusual case of recurrent hemangiopericytoma in a 67-year-old female presenting with a painless and palpable mass within her right posterior neck. Eight years after initial resection of the mass, a follow-up MRI showed multiple enlarging calvarial lesions. A whole body FDG-PET/CT revealed not only hypermetabolic calvarial lesions but also numerous hypermetabolic axillary node and osseous metastases. Though the majority of these soft tissue tumors exhibit benign behavior and carry a favorable prognosis, patients with these slow growing tumors are at risk for local recurrence and distant metastases which demonstrate substantial FDG avidity. Additional studies are needed to clarify the role of whole body FDG-PET/CT in the surveillance of SFT/HPC to detect recurrent or metastatic lesions.

Abstract
PURPOSE Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are extremely rare mesenchymal malignancies. Given the lack of large prospective studies on radiation therapy (RT) with definitive and/or palliative intent in SFT patients, this retrospective study aimed to better define the benefit of RT in this disease. METHODS AND MATERIALS A retrospective observational study was performed across 7 sarcoma centers. Clinical information was retrieved from all patients receiving RT without surgery over the course of their locally advanced and/or metastatic disease. Differences in treatment characteristics between subgroups were tested using analysis-of-variance tests. Local control (LC) and overall survival (OS) rates were calculated as time from the start of RT until local progression and death from any cause, respectively. RESULTS Since 1990, a total of 40 patients were identified. RT was applied with definitive intent in 16 patients and with palliative intent in 24. The median follow-up period was 62 months. In patients treated with definitive RT (receiving approximately 60 Gy), the objective response rate was 67%. At 5 years, the LC rate was 81.3%, and the OS rate was 87.5%. In the case of palliative RT (typically 39 Gy), the objective response rate was 38%. The LC and OS rates at 5 years were 62.5% and 54.2%, respectively. In both subgroups, RT-associated toxicities were mild with predominantly grade 1 acute and late side effects. CONCLUSIONS This retrospective study suggests a clinically meaningful benefit for RT given with either definitive or palliative intent without surgery in SFT management. Prospective registries potentially in collaboration with patient advocacy groups are warranted to further assess the role of RT in patients with this rare malignancy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sinonasal malignancies are rare, representing less than 1% of all cancers, with the sphenoid sinus accounting for 1% to 2% of these cases. Sphenoid sinus malignancies exhibit very poor outcomes. There is a paucity of literature describing their histopathological features, incidence trends, treatment, and survival. We seek to elucidate these factors using a national population-based resource. METHODS The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database was used to identify malignant sphenoid sinus tumors. The results were analyzed for demographics, incidence, and clinicopathologic trends. Survival was calculated using Kaplan-Meier analysis. RESULTS The search identified 472 cases. The mean and median age at diagnosis was 60.0 years. Males represented 54.9% of cases. By race/ethnicity, 82.4% were white and 8.5% were black. The four most common histopathologies were squamous cell neoplasms (29.4%), adenocarcinomas (14.4%), non-Hodgkin's mature B-cell lymphomas (13.1%), and unspecified epithelial neoplasms (11.0%). The overall incidence from 2000 to 2012 was 0.030 per 100,000. Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated an overall 5-year disease-specific survival (DSS) of 48.1%. Of the most common histopathological subtypes, 5-year DSS was best for mature B-cell NHL (64.0%) and worst for unspecified epithelial neoplasms (25.6%). CONCLUSION Sphenoid sinus malignancies are rare, with high prevalence in white males. The most common histopathology is squamous cell neoplasms. They exhibit significant locoregional extension. Of the common sphenoid sinus malignant subtypes, 5-year DSS is best for mature B-cell NHL and worst for unspecified epithelial neoplasms.
