Abstract
Freshwater aquaculture serves as a significant focal point for antibiotic contamination, yet understanding antibiotic distribution across different aquaculture models and stages remains limited. This study evaluated antibiotic pollution in three distinct freshwater aquaculture models: rice-crayfish coculture, fish aquaculture, and crab-crayfish aquaculture, during various aquaculture stages. Of the 33 target antibiotics, 16 antibiotics were detected, with the total concentrations ranging from 111.81 ng/L to 15,949.05 ng/L in water and 10.11 ng/g to 8986.30 ng/g in sediment. Among these antibiotics, erythromycin and lomefloxacin are prohibited for use in Chinese aquaculture. Dominant antibiotics in water included lincomycin, enrofloxacin, and enoxacin, whereas in sediment, oxytetracycline and erythromycin were predominant. Notably, lincomycin emerged as a dominant antibiotic in aquaculture for the first time. The concentrations of these dominant antibiotics were high compared to other aquaculture settings and exhibited elevated ecological risk. Critical periods for antibiotic contamination in water and sediment were found to be incongruent, occurring during the rainy season in July for water and the dry season in October for sediment. Notably, the rice-crayfish coculture model exerts a good effect in reducing antibiotic pollution. Overall, these findings offer valuable evidence for the healthful and sustainable advancement of aquaculture.

Abstract
Although veterinary antibiotics are essential in preventing and treating clinical diseases in cattle, the frequent use of antibiotics leads to antibiotic residues in milk and dairy products, consequently threatening human health. The massive milk consumption makes it necessary to assess antibiotic pollution and health impact comprehensively. Hence, we conducted a systematic review to evaluate antibiotics in milk and dairy products and their potential health risk. We searched four databases using multiple keyword combinations to retrieve 1582 pieces of literature and finally included eighteen articles to analyze antibiotic residues in milk and dairy products. These studies detected seven antibiotics in different regions of China. Quinolones and β-lactam antibiotics exceeded the MRL for raw and commercial milk. The maximum levels of sulfonamides and tetracyclines were detected in the same raw milk sample, exceeding the MRL. The estimated THQ and HI values in milk and dairy products are less than 1 for adults, indicating negligible noncarcinogenic health risk of antibiotics through consuming milk and dairy products. Children face higher health risks than adults, with the HI and THQ of quinolones exceeding 1. It is worth noting that quinolones accounted for nearly 89% of health risks associated with all antibiotics. Finally, we put forward possible research directions in the future, such as specific health effects of total dietary exposure to low levels of antibiotics. In addition, policymakers should effectively improve this problem from the perspectives of antibiotic use supervision, antibiotic residue analysis in food, and continuous environmental monitoring and control.

Abstract
This research aimed to investigate the effects of a palygorskite-based antibacterial agent (PAA) as an alternative to antibiotics on growth performance, blood parameters, and rumen microbiota in sheep. A total of 120 sheep were randomly divided into five groups of six replicates with four sheep each. Sheep were fed a basal diet, an antibiotic diet supplemented with 500 g/t chlortetracycline (CTC), and a basal diet supplemented with 500, 1000, and 2000 g/t PAA for 80 d, respectively. Supplementation with 2000 g/t PAA and 500 g/t CTC increased the average daily gain (ADG) of sheep compared with the control group (p < 0.05). Diets supplemented with 2000 g/t PAA and 500 g/t CTC reduced (p < 0.05) the feed:gain ratio (F/G ratio) in the overall periods. Dietary supplementation with 1000 g/t PAA significantly increased albumin and total protein (p < 0.05). A significant positive correlation was found between growth hormone concentration and PAA supplementation (p < 0.05). In addition, compared to the control group, the CTC group had higher growth hormone concentration and lower lipopolysaccharide concentration (p < 0.05). No difference was observed between the five groups in terms of rumen fermentation characteristics (p > 0.05). At the phylum level, the relative abundance of Proteobacteria was lower in the PAA 2000 and CTC 500 groups than in the control and PAA 500 groups (p < 0.05). At the genus level, a significant decrease (p < 0.05) in the relative abundance of RuminococcaceaeUCG-010 was observed in the PAA 1000, PAA 2000, and CTC 500 groups compared with that in the control group. In addition, the relative abundance of Prevotella1 (p < 0.05) was higher in the PAA 2000 group than in the control group. These findings indicate that dietary supplementation with PAA has ameliorative effects on growth performance, blood parameters, and rumen microbiota, with an optimal dosage of 2000 g/t for sheep.

Abstract
Introduction China is one of the largest consumers of agricultural antibiotics in the world. While the Chinese government has been tightening its regulations to control antimicrobial resistance (AMR) from animal sources in recent years, the extent of antimicrobial oversight and the practices of antibiotic use in animal agriculture in China has not yet been explored. This study describes the practices of antimicrobial management in eastern China and current scenarios of antibiotic use in commercial farms and smallholder backyard farming. Methods 33 semi-structured interviews were conducted with government agriculture officials, veterinary drug sellers, farmers and smallholders in two contrasting areas of rural Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces, China. Interview transcripts were analyzed in NVivo12 using a thematic approach. Results Findings revealed that although the governance of antibiotic use has made progress, especially in controlling irrational antibiotic use in commercial farms, smallholders are under-regulated due to a lack of resources and assumptions about their marginal role as food safety governance targets. We also found that smallholders resort to human antibiotics for the treatment of backyard animals because of economic constraints and lack of access to professional veterinary services. Discussion More attention needs to be devoted to the local structural needs of farmers to reduce antibiotic misuse. Considering the extensive links of AMR exposure under the One Health framework, efforts to integrate smallholders in antibiotic governance are required to address the AMR burden systematically in China.

Abstract
Antibiotic pollution in the environment caused by animal breeding has become a serious issue. The persistent release of antibiotics with animal waste may lead to antibiotic resistances in the environment, which poses a threat to human health. This study tries to provides a practical method for screening prioritized antibiotics via a comprehensive risk assessment and determination of their major sources, and put forward corresponding regulatory measures for animal industries. We investigated the occurrence and distribution of 20 antibiotics belonging to eight classes, spanning the areas of animal feed, drinking water, and animal feces on 59 animal farms in Shandong Province, China. The results showed that antibiotic contamination was prevalent in different environmental mediums (feed, feces, and drinking water) on these farms. Tetracyclines typically exhibited higher concentrations than the other classes in all samples, and the majority of antibiotics had greater concentrations in cattle feces than in pig- or chicken feces. For the antibiotic ecological risks in feces, doxycycline, tetracycline, and enrofloxacin exhibited much more toxic effects on terrestrial organisms (e.g., wheat, cucumber, and rice). Ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin, ofloxacin, and tetracycline levels in drinking water samples can lead to high risk of antibiotic resistance, while no antibiotic posed obvious risks to human health. Based on compressive risk assessments, 11 antibiotics were prioritized to control in the animal breeding environment. Based on the survey of feeds, drinking water and animal waste from the farm, roxithromycin in the feces mainly originated from the feeds, while most prioritized antibiotics, were from extra addition in the animal breeding process (including injection and other oral routes). The key point of local antibiotic management in animal farms should be adjusted from the feed factory to the extra addition of antibiotics in animal breeding processes.

Abstract
Antibiotic residues contained in poultry eggs pose threat to human health. However, the classes and concentrations of antibiotics in poultry egg in southwestern China is unknown due to insufficient monitoring and research. A total of 513 egg samples were collected from supermarkets and farm markets in Kunming city in 2020 and the levels of 7 antibiotics were analyzed using ultra high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) method. The linear correlation coefficients were above 0.990 for all antibiotics tested. The limits of detection and limits of quantification in poultry eggs were 0.002 to 0.010 μg/g and 0.007 to 0.033 μg/g, respectively. The average recoveries of the 7 analytes from poultry egg samples were 80.00 to 128.01%, with relative standard deviations of less than 13.97%. A total of 93 (18.13%) samples tested positive for antibiotics, with the highest concentration being 2.48 μg/g. The concentration range of ofloxacin, danofloxacin, difloxacin, sulfadimethoxine, sulfamonomethoxine, sulfamethoxypyridazine, and sulfamethoxazole in poultry eggs was 0.01 to 0.37 μg/g, 0.06 to 0.48 μg/g, 0.05 to 0.29 μg/g, 0.03 to 0.16 μg/g, 0.06 to 1.00 μg/g, 0.05 to 0.37, and 0.07 to 2.48 μg/g, respectively. Sulfamonomethoxine was detected from hen eggs with the highest concentration level at 1.00 μg/g. Sulfamethoxazole was detected with the highest concentration level from both duck and quail eggs, at 1.87 and 2.48 μg/g, respectively. The antibiotic with the highest residue level in pheasant eggs was danofloxacin, which was 0.37 μg/g. Sulfamethoxypyridazine was identified in 30 samples with the highest positive rate of 5.85%, sulfadimethoxine was identified in 3 samples with the lowest positive rate of 0.58%. We observed that 7 targeted antibiotic residues in quail eggs and 3 targeted antibiotic residues in pheasant eggs. We also found that there were antibiotic residues in free-range hen eggs and the concentration was not low. The antibiotic with the highest residue level in free-range eggs was sulfamonomethoxine, which was 1.00 μg/g. These findings suggest that continual antibiotic residue monitoring of poultry eggs is essential in China.

Abstract
China has a long history of pig rearing, and it currently raises and consumes approximately half of the pigs in the world. Major improvements have been made in pig farming in China in the last four decades with the growing application of new livestock farming technologies. Among the new improvements, the use of antibiotics in pig farming is a common but not well‐documented practise. In order to understand the behaviour of the farmers regarding antibiotic use in pig farming, we conducted a household survey in four townships of L County in Yunnan Province, China, during August 2014 and April 2015. In this survey, 404 farmer households were interviewed using a questionnaire. Among the farmers interviewed, 89% reported easy access to antibiotics, 83.7% reported experience of self‐purchasing antibiotics, and 40.3% reported that they often used antibiotics in pig farming mainly for the prevention and treatment of pig diseases. These farmers identified 20 antibiotics that they had used in pig farming 6 months before the survey. Of these, 11 and 8 antibiotics have been categorised under ‘critically important’ and ‘highly important’ antimicrobial groups, respectively, by the World Health Organization (WHO), and 12 and 8 have been categorised under the ‘Watch’ and ‘Access’ groups, respectively, as per the 2019 WHO AWaRe classification of antibiotics. Factors associated with the behaviour of self‐purchasing antibiotics included types of farms, sources of antibiotics, and previous experiences of pig diseases: those who were smallholders, buying antibiotics from veterinary drugstores and village vets, and whose pigs had suffered diseases previously were more likely to self‐purchase antibiotics for their pigs. Farmers who cleaned their pigsties less frequently and those whose pigs had suffered from diseases used antibiotics more frequently as compared to their peer farmers. This survey conducted in a county in Yunnan Province of China finds out that 83.7% of the farmers reported ‘self‐purchasing’ antibiotics for their pigs and 40.3% of the farmers expressed that they ‘often’ use antibiotics in pig farming with the major purposes being prevention and treatment of pig diseases.
