Computerized tomography in vascular malformations of the brain

Intracerebral arteriovenous malformation fed by both ethmoidal arteries

A case of right-sided frontal intracerebral arteriovenous malformation fed mainly by both ethmoidal arteries is reported. The nidus was located intracerebrally, although its main feeders were dural arteries. It was drained partially through an intracerebral abnormal vein with aneurysmal dilatation of its proximal portion into the vein of Rosenthal and the straight sinus. An acute spontaneous intracerebral hematoma was the cause of the clinical symptoms. The etiology, neuroradiology, and surgical treatment of this rare entity are discussed.

Arteriovenous malformations of the brain: a teratologic challenge

Congenital arteriovenous malformations of the brain are lesions which are well-known to neurologists and neurosurgeons but are puzzling to teratologists because they occur sporadically and are unassociated with congenital malformations outside the central nervous system. They are recommended to teratologists as a field of etiologic and pathogenetic research.

Supplementation of conventional radiographic techniques by computer tomography in cases of subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH)

124 patients with a spontaneous intracranial haemorrhage were examined. On almost 100% of the cases, the diagnosis could be established computer-tomographically if the study was performed within 5 days following the haemorrhage. As a result of the bleeding pattern it was possible to determine the exact location in 54 (75%) of 71 aneurysms. The clinical course of the patient can be more closely followed without additional risk. Thus with the use of CT, the development of cerebral infarction resulting from arterial vasospasm (6 cases) or of hydrocephalus as a result of CSF resorption disturbances can be easily and quickly determined.
