Abstract
INTRODUCTION Ultrasound has been nicknamed "the surgeon's stethoscope". The advantages of laparoscopic ultrasound beyond a substitute for the sense of touch are considerable, especially for robotic surgery. Being able to see through parenchyma and into vascular structures enables to avoid unnecessary dissection by providing a thorough assessment at every stage without the need for contrast media or ionising radiation. The limitations of restricted angulation and access within the abdominal cavity during laparoscopy can be overcome by robotic handling of miniaturised ultrasound probes and the use of various and specific frequencies will meet tissue- and organ-specific characteristics. The aim of this systematic review was to assess the reported applications of intraoperative ultrasound-guided robotic surgery and to outline future perspectives. METHODS The study adhered to the PRISMA guidelines. PubMed, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect and ClinicalTrials.gov were searched up to October 2023. Manuscripts reporting data on ultrasound-guided robotic procedures were included in the qualitative analysis. RESULTS 20 studies met the inclusion criteria. The majority (53%) were related to the field of general surgery during liver, pancreas, spleen, gallbladder/bile duct, vascular and rectal surgery. This was followed by other fields of oncological surgery (42%) including urology, lung surgery, and retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy for metastases. Among the studies, ten (53%) focused on locating tumoral lesions and defining resection margins, four (15%) were designed to test the feasibility of robotic ultrasound-guided surgery, while two (10.5%) aimed to compare robotic and laparoscopic ultrasound probes. Additionally two studies (10.5%) evaluated the robotic drop-in probe one (5%) assessed the hepatic tissue consistency and another one (5%) aimed to visualize the blood flow in the splenic artery. CONCLUSION The advantages of robotic instrumentation, including ergonomics, dexterity, and precision of movements, are of relevance for robotic intraoperative ultrasound (RIOUS). The present systematic review demonstrates the virtue of RIOUS to support surgeons and potentially reduce minimally invasive procedure times.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the additive clinical value of endoluminal contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) after interventional placement of drainages in abdominal fluid collections. MATERIAL/METHOD Examination of 30 patients using a 1-6 MHz convex probe (Resona 7, Mindray) to locate the fluid collection in B-Mode. Additionally, dynamic endoluminal CEUS with 1 ml sulphur-hexafluoride microbubbles was performed to measure the extent of the percutaneously drained abscesses. Independent assessment of dynamically stored images in PACS in DICOM format. Correlation to reference imaging using computed tomography (CT). RESULTS A total of 30 patients were examined (17 m, 19-78 years, mean 56.1 years). Drainages were positioned in the liver in 15 cases, in the pelvis after kidney transplantation in 4 cases, close to the spleen in 1 case and in the abdomen in 10 cases. In all cases abscesses showed marginal hyperaemia with reactive septations in CEUS. The drainage position was assessed by means of B-mode in all cases first and then by CEUS. In 4 cases CEUS showed a fistula to the pleura, in 5 cases to the peritoneum, in 2 cases to the intestine, in 5 cases to the biliary tract, corresponding to the CT. In 2 cases there was a hint of an anastomotic leakage after intestinal anastomosis, which was reliably detected by CT. The drainage was removed in 11 cases within a period of 2 to 5 days after CEUS control, in 9 cases within a period of 5 to 10 days. Another operation was necessary in 3 cases. A new drainage was placed in 2 cases. The required amount of contrast medium is 1 ml endoluminally diluted to 9 ml sodium chloride. CONCLUSION CEUS facilitates the exact localization and characterization of inflammatory abdominal fluid collections. Furthermore, possible fistulas can be detected that cannot be seen with conventional ultrasound.

Abstract
Objectives To explore the clinical value of contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) combined with contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) for characterization and diagnosis of small nodular lesions in the liver and investigate the association between such small nodular lesions and the degree of tumor differentiation. Methods Combined imaging modalities were performed on 120 patients who were admitted by Linyi Maternal and Child Health hospital from December 2018 to December 2020 and diagnosed with hepatic nodular lesions. The CT scans were interpreted by two senior imageologists while the ultrasound scans were analyzed by two senior sonographers. A comparative analysis was carried out on different scan modes and the postoperative or post-puncture pathological results using the t-test, the χ2 test, and the Pearson's correlation analysis. Results Compared to the pathological results, definite diagnoses of 55 malignant cases were made using CECT alone, with the coincidence rate of 78.6%; CECT combined with CEUS formed correct diagnoses in 64 cases, and the coincidence rate was up to 91.4%. The difference between the two scan modes was statistically significant (p= 0.03). Based on pathological diagnosis, seventy out of the 120 cases of small nodular lesions were identified as malignant, while the other 50 cases were benign. The single imaging modality diagnosed 63 malignant and 57 benign nodules, whereas the combined modalities identified 68 malignancies and 52 benign conditions. Compared to CECT as a single imaging modality, the combined modalities showed a higher degree of sensitivity and accuracy, and the difference was statistically significant (sensitivity: p= 0.03; accuracy: p= 0.02); in the malignant cases, the magnitudes of contrast enhancement of CT and ultrasound imaging decreased with an increase in the degree of differentiation, indicating a negative correlation between these factors. Conclusions CECT combined with CEUS has a higher coincidence rate, greater sensitivity, and better diagnostic accuracy when being used for characterization and diagnosis of small nodular lesions in the liver. A higher degree of tumor differentiation means a decreased magnitude of contrast enhancement and a blurrier boundary, which indicates that CECT and CEUS are complementary to each other in classifying malignant liver nodules. The use of the combined imaging modalities shows clinical value for characterizing small liver nodules and predicting the degree of malignancy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a kind of tumor with rich blood supply. The changes of blood perfusion occur in the whole pathological process of the tumor. By analyzing the changes of blood perfusion, contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) can objectively assess the state of angiogenesis, and then indirectly analyze its pathobiological characteristics, which has important clinical significance.
AIM To investigate the correlation between the perfusion parameters of CEUS and ephrin type-B receptor 4 (EphB4) expression in HCC lesions.
METHODS Fifty-two patients with HCC who underwent surgical resection at our hospital were selected as the subjects. All patients were examined by CEUS within 1 wk before operation, and the perfusion parameters of HCC and paracancerous tissues were measured, including maximum intensity (IMAX), time to peak (TTP), and washout time (WT). After operation, the specimens of HCC and paracancerous tissues were sent for pathological examination, and EphB4 expression and microvessel density (MVD) were measured.
RESULTS IMAX in HCC was significantly higher than that in paracancerous tissue (P < 0.05). TTP and WT in HCC were significantly shorter than those in paracancerous tissue (P < 0.05). EphB4 expression and MVD in HCC were significantly higher than those in paracancerous tissue (P < 0.05). EphB4 expression in HCC was positively correlated with IMAX (r = 0.862, P < 0.05) and negatively correlated with TTP and WT (r = -0.765, r = -0.781, P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION CEUS can quantitatively evaluate the flow state of HCC microcirculation, and there is a certain correlation between perfusion parameters and EphB4 expression, which can provide reference for clinical non-invasive evaluation of EphB4 expression.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ultrasound (US)-guided biopsy is widely used for the diagnostic confirmation of focal lesions. For sampling of prostate tissue, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)/US fusion-guided biopsy has already been implemented in routine clinical practice and has shown a superior detection rate of significant prostate cancer in risk assessment compared with standard systematic biopsy. Newer three-dimensional software tools with volumetric mapping of the prostate and biopsy core channels provide a better overview of systematic biopsy and thus contribute to more accurate treatment planning. Automatic fusion is a time-saver and can reduce potential examiner errors through greater standardization of the fusion process itself. METHODICAL INNOVATIONS In abdominal pathologies, US fusion biopsy can improve the rate of successful tissue sampling by using fused imaging to target lesions that are barely visible or difficult to delineate on B‑mode US scans. In addition, solid portions within larger tumors with enhancement on contrast-enhanced US can be targeted selectively, thereby avoiding sampling of necrotic areas and improving the quality of tissue cores for histopathological work-up. CONCLUSION Especially in complex situations, use of US fusion not only saves time but also improves sampling accuracy, which in turn reduces the rate of insufficient tissue specimens that necessitate repeat biopsy.

Abstract
To analyze the correlation between quantitative contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) parameters and angiogenesis in primary small hepatocellular carcinoma (sHCC) with varying degrees of differentiation.According to varying degrees of differentiation, a total of 90 primary sHCC patients admitted to our hospital from July 2018 to January 2020 were selected and divided into poorly differentiated group (24 cases), moderately differentiated group (31 cases), and highly differentiated group (35 cases). All patients received real-time CEUS before surgery. The tumor diameter, microvascular morphology, grading of color blood flow, contrast-enhanced performance in different phases, quantitative CEUS parameters, expression of angiogenesis-related genes, and microvessel density (MVD) were compared among the 3 groups. The correlation between quantitative parameters of CEUS and angiogenesis indexes was analyzed by Spearman rank correlation analysis.Spearman rank correlation analysis showed that vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), and angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) expression and MVD were negatively correlated with the time to peak (TTP), wash-out time, and peak accelerating time (PAT) (r < 0, P < .05), and were positively correlated with enhancing slope rate (ESR) and peak intensity increasing rate (PIIR) (r > 0, P < .05).CEUS is able to identify varying degrees of differentiation in primary sHCC, and the quantitative CEUS parameters are closely related to angiogenesis.

Abstract
For evaluating unclear tumorous lesions, contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) is an important imaging modality in addition to contrast-enhanced computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, and may provide valuable insights into the microvascularization of tumors in dynamic examinations. In interventional procedures, CEUS can make a valuable contribution in pre-, peri-, and post-interventional settings, reduce radiation exposure and, under certain circumstances, decrease the number of interventions needed for patients.

Abstract
Liver tumors are often incidentally found during ultrasound examinations. The decision on further diagnostic imaging depends on the clinical context and the appearance in B mode ultrasound. This review highlights the role of grey scale and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and summarizes the ultrasonographic key features of the most common benign and malignant liver tumors. Conventional grey scale ultrasound is recommended in several guidelines for screening and follow-up of liver tumors in certain risk populations but its ability to characterize liver tumors is limited in most cases. The CEUS has an excellent tolerability and enables liver tumor characterization with a high sensitivity and specificity. The diagnostic value of CEUS is comparable to magnetic resonance imaging. In the case of unclear lesions, inconclusive findings by different imaging methods or if molecular targeted treatment is pursued, ultrasound-guided biopsy is often mandatory. Ultrasound is a rapidly and ubiquitously available method for the detection of liver tumors and CEUS is the only imaging method that enables real-time examination of all contrast phases in the liver. It should therefore be used as the first line imaging method for liver tumor characterization.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The radical resection of colorectal liver metastases is the only curative option for affected patients. If properly performed, surgery provides the chance of long-term tumor-free survival. OBJECTIVE Summary of the critical interaction points between radiology and surgery in the planning and performance of (complex) liver resections. RESULTS There are many interaction points between radiology and surgery in the treatment of patients with colorectal liver metastases. Radiology supports surgery by providing detailed information of the localization of metastases, information on liver inflow and outflow as well as basic information on liver quality and function. Perioperatively, it provides interventional treatment options for postoperative complications as well as ablation of non-resectable metastases. CONCLUSION Complex liver resections can only be performed properly and successfully after thorough planning by an interdisciplinary board of surgeons, radiologists and associated disciplines.
