Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the compatibility between the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA), a validated tool for screening for malnutrition among older adults, and the Healthy Diet Indicator-2015 (HDI-2015), a diet quality index, to investigate their relationship in assessing nutritional status. METHOD This cross-sectional study included 6094 community-dwelling older adults aged 65 and older. The MNA was administered to assess the nutritional status, and the adherence to the World Health Organization's HDI-2015 was determined based on 24-hour dietary recalls. RESULTS According to the MNA, 70.4% of older adults had a normal nutritional status, 27.6% had a risk of malnutrition, and 2.0% were malnourished. Advanced age, female sex, poor appetite, difficulty chewing and swallowing, consistently skipping meals, and not exercising regularly were significantly associated with the rate of malnutrition in older adults (p < 0.001). Only 3.8% of older adults demonstrated high adherence to the HDI-2015, whereas 27.0% demonstrated moderate adherence and 69.2% demonstrated low adherence. The rate of malnutrition was higher in older adults who demonstrated low adherence to the HDI-2015 (p < 0.001). A weak positive correlation was found between the MNA and the HDI-2015 (r = 0.119; p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS Even if older adults living in the community have a normal nutritional status according to the MNA, periodically obtaining dietary recalls to assess diet quality, such as using HDI-2015, is important for developing personalized nutrition plans.

Abstract
This study investigates the relationship between Life's Essential 8 (LE8) scores and bone mineral density (BMD) in adults aged 20-59 years. This cross-sectional analysis employed nationally representative data from NHANES 2011-2018. Weighted multiple linear regression models were applied to assess the association between LE8 scores and varying levels of cardiovascular health (CVH) with BMD. Subgroup analyses were performed to evaluate differences in the impact of LE8 scores on BMD across age groups, genders, races, socioeconomic statuses, and BMI categories. The study included 2159 participants. After adjusting for all covariates, LE8 scores demonstrated a significant positive linear association with lumbar spine BMD, thoracic spine BMD, trunk BMD, and total BMD. Individuals in the medium and high CVH groups exhibited higher BMD compared to those in the low CVH group. Subgroup analyses indicated that the association was more evident in participants aged 20-35 years and among those with normal BMI. In females, thoracic spine BMD appeared particularly sensitive to changes in LE8 scores. This study identifies a positive linear relationship between LE8 scores and BMD. Higher CVH scores were linked to greater BMD in adults aged 20-59 years. These findings highlight the importance of adopting comprehensive health strategies, suggesting that improving CVH may contribute to maintaining bone density and supporting skeletal health.

Abstract
Background The increasing influence of overactive bladder (OAB) on physical as well as mental health of individuals is becoming more pronounced annually, as evidenced by the urge urinary incontinence and nocturia. Symptoms in OAB patients may be influenced by inflammation and oxidative stress. Flavonoids are recognized as significant anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agents, which are commonly available in fruits, tea, vegetables, etc. Previous research has demonstrated the therapeutic potential of flavonoids and their subclasses in treating inflammation, and oxidative stress. Despite this, there remains a paucity of research exploring the potential correlation between flavonoid consumption, specifically within distinct subclasses, and OAB. Thus, our study aims to investigate the relationship between flavonoid intake and OAB to identify possible dietary interventions for OAB management. Methods We utilized the survey data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and the USDA Food and Nutrient Database for Dietary Studies (FNDDS) to investigate the relationship between dietary intake of total and subclass flavonoids and the risk of OAB based on 13,063 qualified American adults. The dietary flavonoid intake was estimated from two 24-h dietary recalls. Weighted multivariate logistic regression model, quantile-based g-computation, restricted cubic spline model, and stratified analysis were used to explore the association between flavonoid intake and OAB, respectively. Results The participants diagnosed with OAB exhibited a higher percentage of being female, older, Non-Hispanic Black, unmarried, former drinkers, having a lower annual household income, lower poverty to income ratio, lower educational attainment, and a higher likelihood of being obese and smokers. Upon adjusting for confounding factors, the weighted logistic regression models revealed that the third quartile of consumption of anthocyanidin and the second quartile of consumption of flavone were significantly associated with the reduced odds of OAB, while total flavonoid consumption did not show a significant correlation with the risk of OAB. The quantile-based g-computation model indicated that flavone, anthocyanidin and flavonol were the primary contributors to the observed negative correlation. Furthermore, the restricted cubic spline models demonstrated a J-shaped non-linear exposure-response association between anthocyanidin intake and the risk of OAB (P nonlinear = 0.00164). The stratified and interaction analyses revealed that the relationship between anthocyanidin intake and the risk of OAB was significantly influenced by age (P interaction = 0.01) and education level (P interaction = 0.01), while the relationship between flavone intake and the risk of OAB was found to vary by race (P interaction = 0.02) and duration of physical activity (P interaction = 0.05). Conclusion Our research suggests that consuming a diet rich in flavonoid subclass anthocyanidin and flavone is associated with a reduced risk of OAB, potentially offering clinical significance in the prevention of OAB development. This underscores the importance of dietary adjustments in the management of OAB symptoms.

Abstract
Purpose The current study aimed to explore the associations of diet quality assessed by healthy eating index-2015 (HEI-2015) with risks of osteoporosis and low bone mineral density (BMD) among American postmenopausal women aged 50 years and older. Methods Postmenopausal women aged 50 years and older in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2007 through 2018 were included in the final sample. Analysis of variance and Rao-Scott adjusted chi-square tests were used to compare the characteristics across tertiles of HEI-2015. Univariate and multivariate weighted logistic regression models were employed to explore the associations of HEI-2015 tertiles and continuous HEI-2015 with the risks of osteoporosis and low BMD. Nonlinear dose-response associations were evaluated using weighted restricted cubic spline analyses, and the contributions of various HEI-2015 components were assessed using weighted quantile sum regression models. Results The final sample included 3,421 postmenopausal women aged 50 years and older representative for approximately 28.38 million non-institutionalized U.S. postmenopausal women. Osteoporosis prevalence decreased with HEI-2015 tertiles while the prevalence of low BMD showed no significant decrease. Compared with postmenopausal women in the first tertile of HEI-2015, those with the second (OR: 0.57, 95%CI: 0.38-0.84) and third (OR: 0.48, 95%CI: 0.29-0.78) HEI-2015 tertiles were associated with reduced osteoporosis risk after multivariate adjustments, but no significant association of HEI-2015 with the risk of BMD was identified. Furthermore, similar effects were confirmed in the sensitivity analyses and subgroup analyses and interaction effects. Moreover, significant nonlinear associations were observed between HEI-2015 with osteoporosis risk, and total vegetables, refined grains and greens and beans demonstrated the strongest protective effect among HEI-2015 components against osteoporosis. Conclusions This study strongly suggests the significant negative associations of HEI-2015 with osteoporosis risk in American postmenopausal women. These findings highlight the importance of adherence to the dietary guidelines for Americans in reducing the risk of osteoporosis.

Abstract
In this cross-sectional study, we examined the association between Life's Essential 8 (LE8) and bone mineral density (BMD) as well as osteoporosis risk among adults aged 50 and over. The findings of this study revealed that higher LE8 scores were associated with higher BMD and reduced osteoporosis risk. PURPOSE The objective of the present study was to evaluate the association between Life's Essential 8 (LE8) and bone mineral density (BMD), as well as osteoporosis risk, in adults aged 50 years or over. METHODS This cross-sectional study recruited individuals who were 50 years old or older from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. LE8 scores were evaluated and calculated according to the scoring algorithm based on the American Heart Association recommendations, which were further categorized into health behaviors (LE8-HB) and health factors (LE8-HF) scores. Furthermore, the present study utilized multivariate linear regression models to examine the correlations between BMD and LE8 scores. In addition, ordinal logistic regression models were employed to determine the associations between the risk of osteoporosis (normal BMD, osteopenia, and osteoporosis) and LE8 scores. RESULTS The final analysis included a total of 2910 participants, whose mean age was 64.49 ± 9.28 years. LE8 and LE8-HF scores exhibited a negative association with BMD and a positive association with osteoporosis risk in unadjusted models. Nevertheless, after adjustment for covariates, LE8 and LE8-HB scores exhibited a positive association with BMD and a negative association with osteoporosis risk, regardless of age, sex, or menopausal status. CONCLUSIONS Scoring systems based on multiple lifestyle and behavior factors, similar to LE8, have the potential to become a novel option and be used for osteoporosis risk assessment.

Abstract
Dietary flavonoids have been recommended for improving bone health due to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and osteogenic properties. However, the effectiveness of each flavonoid subclass in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis remains controversial. The objective of the current study was to examine the association between the intake of flavonoid subclasses and bone loss in 10 480 U.S. adults in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. We employed a multinomial logistic regression model to calculate the odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). The intake of flavones, isoflavones, and flavanones was beneficially associated with osteoporosis (ORQ5 vs. Q1 = 0.44; 95% CI: 0.30-0.64 for flavones; ORQ5 vs. Q1 = 0.53; 95% CI: 0.37-0.77 for isoflavones; ORQ5 vs. Q1 = 0.66; 95% CI: 0.45-0.97 for flavanones). A higher intake of flavones and flavanones was significantly associated with a lower risk of bone loss at the femoral neck rather than the lumbar spine. Notably, stratified analysis showed that genistein had a harmful association with osteopenia in the population with lower serum calcium levels, whereas it had a beneficial association with osteoporosis in the population with higher serum calcium levels. Multiple sensitivity analyses were performed to test the robustness of the results, including subgroup analysis, exclusion of individuals' use of anti-osteoporosis, corticosteroid, and estrogenic medications, adjusting more potential confounders and calculation of the E-value. Overall, incorporating this modifiable diet into an individual's lifestyle could provide potential possibilities to prevent and ameliorate osteoporosis.

Abstract
Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disease manifesting as weak and fragile bones. Dietary patterns have been described as an affecting constituent of bone metabolism. There is no consensus on the advantages or harms of vegetarian diets on bone health. This study aimed to design a lacto-vegetarian dietary score (LVDS) to evaluate the similarity of an individual's dietary pattern to the lacto-vegetarian dietary pattern and assess its association with postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMO). We hypothesized that individuals with greater LVDS will have a lower risk for PMO. In this hospital-based, case-control study, 220 cases (definitively diagnosed with osteoporosis) and 220 age-matched controls were registered. Usual dietary intakes were evaluated by a validated 147-item semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire. To design the LVDS, the energy-adjusted intakes of 12 food groups were categorized into quintiles, and positive or reverse points were assigned. To determine the association between the LVDS and PMO, binary logistic regression was used. Those in the top tertile of the LVDS had a lower chance of PMO compared with those in the bottom tertile (odds ratio, 0.11; 95% confidence interval, 0.06-0.22). An inverse relation was obtained between vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, dairy, soy protein, and egg consumption and PMO. Higher consumption of vegetable and animal oils significantly increased the risk of PMO. A dietary pattern similar to the lacto-vegetarian dietary pattern and concentrated on greater consumption of legumes, nuts, dairy, fruits, vegetables, and soy protein can be suggested as a protective method against PMO. Further, longitudinal studies are required to confirm these findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Healthy Eating Index 2015 (HEI-2015) is a tool for checking the quality of diet. This index is used to examine how well people's dietary behavior fits certain criteria for achieving a healthy diet in Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015-2020. We look at the possible association between the HEI-2015 and bone mineral density (BMD) and muscle strength in postmenopausal women. METHODS This research included 1012 postmenopausal women from the recruitment phase of the Ravansar Noncommunicable Diseases (RaNCD) cohort study in Kermanshah-Iran. A standardized and repeatable food-frequency questionnaire (FFQ) that contains 118 items was used to quantify dietary consumption. Anthropometric indices measured via Bio-Impedance Analyzer BIA (Inbody 770, Inbody Co, Seoul, Korea). RESULT The mean age of postmenopausal women was (56.41 ± 5.31) years. Participants in the highest quartile had a more daily energy intake compared to the lowest quartile (2329.89 ± 837.59), (P < 0.001). Women in the upper quartiles had greater Skeletal Muscle Mass (SMM) than those in the lower quartiles (21.61 ± 2.80 vs 20.52 ± 3.13; p = 0.0002). The linear model didn't show a significant relationship between HEI score and greater BMD (β = 0.0014, P = 0.169). CONCLUSION A diet of high quality followed by a high HEL-2015 score was shown to be strongly connected to increased BMD and muscle mass in Kurdish postmenopausal women.

Abstract
Objectives Presbyphagia refers to age-related changes in the swallowing mechanism (e.g., reduced skeletal muscle strength that decreases bolus control). If left untreated, these changes can lead to dysphagia, which refers to impaired swallowing (e.g., coughing or choking when eating). Given that swallowing difficulties are common among older adults that they make up the fastest growing age group globally, the need for interventions to address presbyphagia is gaining urgency. To begin to address this need, we conducted a scoping review to analyze music therapy research aimed at enhancing swallowing function. The objective was to identify key intervention characteristics and propose clinical implications for treating presbyphagia using music therapy. Methods This review followed the methodological frameworks outlined by Arksey and O'Malley and Levac et al. and used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis for Scoping Reviews for analysis and reporting. Four electronic databases (i.e., ProQuest, PubMed, RISS, Web of Science) were searched for quantitative and qualitative studies in English or Korean that used music-based interventions to address swallowing function in older adults. Content analysis was conducted to identify and compare the main features of music interventions for swallowing difficulties among older adults. Results Ten articles were identified and analyzed. It was found that three core components-respiration, vocalization, and singing-were employed to enhance swallowing function in populations with neurological impairments, dementia, or head and neck cancer. Notably, actions closely linked to swallowing function, such as laryngeal elevation and oral movements, were utilized therapeutically to speak or sing. Based on these characteristics, clinical implications are proposed to address presbyphagia. Conclusion Singing entails a systematic and focused incorporation of stepwise activities that can be used to address swallowing disorders. In this context, critical clinical implications that music therapists should consider when treating individuals with presbyphagia include warmup breathing, vocalizing targeting laryngeal control, and singing targeting oral motor control. This review can contribute to the expansion of music therapy with older adults and the advancement of music therapy techniques.

Abstract
PURPOSE Although the Mediterranean diet has been associated with a lower risk of hip fracture, the effect of other dietary patterns on bone density and risk of fracture is unknown. This scoping review aims to investigate the association between adherence to alternative dietary patterns (other than the traditional Mediterranean diet) and osteoporosis or osteoporotic fracture risk in older people. METHODS A systematic search was carried out on three electronic databases (Medline, EMBASE, and Scopus) to identify original papers studying the association between alternative dietary patterns (e.g., Baltic Sea Diet (BSD), modified/alternative Mediterranean diet in non-Mediterranean populations, Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH)) assessed using 'prior' methods (validated scores) and the risk of osteoporotic fracture or Bone Mineral Density (BMD) in people aged ≥50 (or reported average age of participants ≥ 60). Results from the included studies were presented in a narrative way. RESULTS Six observational (four prospective cohort and two cross-sectional) studies were included. There was no significant association between BMD and BSD or DASH scores. Higher adherence to DASH was associated with a lower risk of lumbar spine osteoporosis in women in one study, although it was not associated with the risk of hip fracture in another study with men and women. Higher adherence to aMED (alternative Mediterranean diet) was associated with a lower risk of hip fracture in one study, whereas higher adherence to mMED (modified Mediterranean diet) was associated with a lower risk of hip fracture in one study and had no significant result in another study. However, diet scores were heterogeneous across cohort studies. CONCLUSIONS There is some evidence that a modified and alternative Mediterranean diet may reduce the risk of hip fracture, and DASH may improve lumbar spine BMD. Larger cohort studies are needed to validate these findings.

Abstract
Osteoporosis is a prevalent chronic disease that often goes unnoticed in postmenopausal women. Early identification of risk factors for osteoporosis in postmenopausal women is essential. This study aimed to develop predictive models for osteoporosis-related factors among postmenopausal women in the U.S. and explore the influencing factors. In this cross-sectional study, we included 4417 postmenopausal women from the NHANES (2009-2010, 2013-2014, and 2017-2020). Through multiple regression analysis, we found that age, minutes of sedentary activity, prednisone or cortisone usage, arthritis, bone loss around teeth, and trouble sleeping were risk factors for osteoporosis after menopause. Conversely, height, BMI, and age at the last menstrual period were identified as protective factors. The findings from the Bayesian network analysis indicated that several factors influenced osteoporosis, including age, BMI, bone loss around teeth, prednisone or cortisone usage, arthritis, and age at the last menstrual period. On the other hand, minutes of sedentary activity and height might have indirect effects, while trouble sleeping may not have a significant impact. Both logistic regression and Bayesian network models demonstrated good predictive capabilities in predicting osteoporosis among postmenopausal women. In addition, Bayesian networks offer a more intuitive depiction of the intricate network risk mechanism between diseases and factors.

Abstract
Background The Healthy Eating Index (HEI) estimates the diet quality, and low HEI scores are associated with adverse bone outcomes. However, the relationship between HEI scores and bone health in individuals who are obese but otherwise healthy or obese with comorbidities remains unclear. Objective We aimed to evaluate the association of HEI scores with bone mineral density (BMD), bone regulating hormones and bone turnover markers in individuals with metabolically healthy obese (MHO) and metabolically unhealthy obese (MUO) phenotypes. Methods This was a cross-sectional analysis of 122 adults who were overweight or obese. A questionnaire was completed to obtain demographic data. Body composition and BMD were assessed by a Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DXA) exam. The HEI scores and dietary components were calculated using a 24-h dietary recall. Blood samples were collected for the analysis of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (s25OHD), total osteocalcin (OC), parathyroid hormone (PTH), and C-terminal telopeptide (CTx) concentrations. The MHO and MUO phenotypes were classified according to the absence or presence of metabolic abnormalities. Results The sample mean age was 37.91 ± 12.66 years, 50.8% were men, mean body mass index (BMI) was 30.01 ± 4.63 kg/m2, and 45.9% were classified as the MUO phenotype. The mean HEI scores were 54.42 ± 16.25 and 61.48% had low-diet quality. HEI scores were positively associated with s25OHD in the MUO phenotype group (β = 0.194, 95%CI = 0.038-0.350, p = 0.016). Certain dietary score components, such as fruits, seafood and plant protein, added sugars, whole grains, and fatty acids were also associated with bone health markers. However, HEI scores were not associated with BMD measures, neither with other bone regulating hormones and turnover markers. Conclusion There was a positive association between HEI scores and s25OHD in adults who were overweight or obese with MUO phenotype. Additionally, the adequate consumption of specific food groups may benefit bone mass and metabolism. These results emphasize the importance of lifestyle interventions encouraging healthy eating habits to prevent s25OHD deficiency, poor bone health, and cardiometabolic complications.

Abstract
Little is known about whether diet quality is associated with thyroid function. We aimed to examine the relationship between diet quality and thyroid function. Data were from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, 2007-2012. A total of 3603 males who were at least 20 years old and had dietary recall data were included in the analysis. Thyroid function was assessed by eight indexes, including total and thyroglobulin antibodies, thyroid peroxidase antibodies, free T4 and T3, total T4 and T3, Tg, and thyroid-stimulating hormone. Multivariable linear regression, subgroup analyses, and interaction terms were employed to test the association between healthy eating index (HEI) and thyroid function. A total of 3603 male participants aged ≥20 years with an average age of 48.17 ± 0.51 years were enrolled. We found a negative association between HEI-2010 and total T3 (β = -3.41; p = .01) and free T3 (β = -0.06; p = .01). In subgroup analyses, HEI-2010 was negatively associated with TT3 in male participants aged <65 years old (β = -4.57; p < .01) and FT3 (β = -0.09; p < .001). Higher HEI-2010 was inversely associated with lower total T3 and free T3. More well-designed studies are still needed to validate the causal relationship between HEI and thyroid function.

Abstract
PURPOSE The dietary inflammatory index (DII) is a scoring system to quantify the inflammatory effects of nutrients and foods. Inflammation may affect bone health. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships of DII with bone mineral density (BMD) and osteoporosis. METHODS This study involved 1023 women and 1080 men (age ≥ 50) in the US National Health and Nutrition Survey (NHANES), 2017-2018. Multivariable linear regression models were used to estimate the associations between DII and BMD. Association between DII and osteoporosis was tested with multivariable logistic regression models. RESULTS In women, DII was negatively associated with total hip and femoral neck BMD after adjusting for covariates (P < 0.05). In men, DII was negatively associated with lumbar spine BMD (P < 0.05). DII was positively associated with osteoporosis in women (P < 0.05). The odds ratios (ORs) (95% CI) for osteoporosis associated with DII quartiles 2, 3 and 4 vs. quartile 1 were 2.95 (1.08, 8.09), 5.63 (2.87, 11.04), and 6.14(2.55, 14.78), respectively. No significant association was observed in men. CONCLUSIONS Higher DII scores were associated with increase osteoporosis risk in women, while no association was found in men. Greater pro-inflammatory diets might be associated with lower BMD in both women and men.

Abstract
Previous studies suggest that saturated fat (SFA) intake may negatively impact on bone. However, few human studies on the topic exist. Women and men aged 31-46 years from the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns study attended the peripheral quantitative computed tomography and ultrasound bone measurements in 2008 (n = 1884-1953, ~ 56% women). In addition, fracture diagnoses in 1980-2018 were searched for the national health care registers and 431 participants had at least one fracture. Food consumption was gathered with the 48-h dietary recall interviews and food frequency questionnaire in 1980-2007. In the present study, radial, tibial, and calcaneal bone traits, and fractures were examined relative to the long-term intake of SFA. No consistent associations were seen between bone outcomes and SFA intake that would have replicated in both women and men. The only evidence for differential distributions was seen in cortical density and cortical-to-total area ratio at the radial shaft, and speed of sound at the calcaneus, which were 0.1-0.4% higher in women in the lowest tertile of SFA intake compared with the highest tertile. In addition, among men, the odds ratio (OR) of fractures was greater in the second (OR 1.86, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.03-3.33) and third tertile of SFA intake (OR 2.45, 95% CI 1.38-4.36) compared with the lowest tertile, independently of many risk factors of osteoporosis. In this observational study, we found no robust evidence of the associations of dietary long-term SFA intake with bone outcomes. Therefore, additional studies are needed to confirm the association of dietary SFA with bone health in humans.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adherence to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans is often assessed using the Healthy Eating Index (HEI). The HEI total score reflects overall diet quality, with all aspects equally important. Using the traditional weighting scheme for the HEI, all components are generally weighted equally in the total score. However, there is limited empirical basis for applying the traditional weighting for pregnancy specifically. OBJECTIVES We aimed to assess associations between the 12 HEI-2010 component scores and select pregnancy outcomes. METHODS The Nulliparous Pregnancy Outcomes Study: Monitoring Mothers-to-Be was a prospective pregnancy cohort (US multicenter, 2010-2013). Participants enrolled in the study between 6 and 13 weeks of gestation. An FFQ assessed usual dietary intake 3 months prior to pregnancy (n = 7880). Scores for the HEI-2010 components were assigned using prespecified standards based on densities (standard units per 1000 kcal) of relevant food groups for most components, a ratio (PUFAs and MUFAs to SFAs) for fatty acids, and the contribution to total energy for empty calories. Using binomial regression, we estimated risk differences between each component score and cases of small-for-gestational age (SGA) birth, preterm birth, preeclampsia, and gestational diabetes, controlling for total energy and scores for the other HEI-2010 components. RESULTS Higher scores for greens and beans and total vegetables were associated with fewer cases of SGA birth, preterm birth, and preeclampsia. For instance, every 1-unit increase in the greens and beans score was associated with 1.2 fewer SGA infants (95% CI, 0.7-1.7), 0.7 fewer preterm births (95% CI, 0.3-1.1), and 0.7 fewer preeclampsia cases (95% CI, 0.2-1.1) per 100 deliveries. For gestational diabetes, the associations were null. CONCLUSIONS Vegetable-rich diets were associated with fewer cases of SGA birth, preterm birth, and preeclampsia, controlling for overall diet quality. Examination of the equal weighting of the HEI components (and underlying guidance) is needed for pregnancy.

Abstract
Frailty is a highly prevalent condition in the elderly that has been increasingly considered as a crucial public health issue, due to the strict correlation with a higher risk of fragility fractures, hospitalization, and mortality. Among the age-related diseases, sarcopenia and dysphagia are two common pathological conditions in frail older people and could coexist leading to dehydration and malnutrition in these subjects. “Sarcopenic dysphagia” is a complex condition characterized by deglutition impairment due to the loss of mass and strength of swallowing muscles and might be also related to poor oral health status. Moreover, the aging process is strictly related to poor oral health status due to direct impairment of the immune system and wound healing and physical and cognitive impairment might indirectly influence older people’s ability to carry out adequate oral hygiene. Therefore, poor oral health might affect nutrient intake, leading to malnutrition and, consequently, to frailty. In this scenario, sarcopenia, dysphagia, and oral health are closely linked sharing common pathophysiological pathways, disabling sequelae, and frailty. Thus, the aim of the present comprehensive review is to describe the correlation among sarcopenic dysphagia, malnutrition, and oral frailty, characterizing their phenotypically overlapping features, to propose a comprehensive and effective management of elderly frail subjects.
