Abstract
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the canine gastrointestinal tract and are diagnosed by the immunohistochemical expression of the receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) KIT. Activating mutations of the proto-oncogenes c-KIT and PDGFRA drive GIST oncogenesis and are used to predict the response to RTK-inhibitors in human oncology. Currently, the frequency and significance of these mutations in canine GIST have not been adequately explored. Therefore, we investigated the mutational status of c-KIT (exons 9, 11 and 13) and PDGFRA (exons 12 and 18) genes by PCR followed by fragment analysis for c-KIT deletions and PCR followed by screening with DHPLC and direct sequencing confirmation for single nucleotide variations in 17 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded canine GISTs confirmed by KIT immunopositivity. c-KIT mutations were detected in 47% of cases, with a mutation detection rate significantly higher (p = 0.0004, Fisher’s exact test) and always involving exon 11. A PDGFRA gene mutation (exon 18) was identified in one case. Even if follow-up data were not available for all cases, four cases with documented abdominal metastases displayed c-KIT mutations. These data confirm that c-KIT exon 11 mutations occur frequently in canine GISTs, and identify the presence of a PDGFRA mutation similar to human GISTs. This study also suggests a potential association of c-KIT mutation with more aggressive biological behavior.

Abstract
Soft tissue tumors comprise a great variety of common and rare entities with overlapping features. Their diagnosis is based on the evaluation of several histological parameters which are difficult to assess on small incisional biopsies. Useful diagnostic markers in the field of soft tissue tumors include: 1) molecular biomarkers detecting pathogenetically relevant, distinctive alterations; 2) immunohistochemical surrogate biomarkers of pathogenetically relevant, distinctive molecular alterations; 3) highly specific immunohistochemical biomarkers indicating tumor differentiation. Their introduction in clinical practice has revolutionized the pre-operative diagnosis of soft tissue tumors. Cytology has long been considered inadequate as a first-line approach in this setting. However, since the implementation of new immunohistochemical and molecular tests with high diagnostic specificity, fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is starting to gain acceptance for the pre-operative assessment of soft tissue tumors. FNAC represents a versatile, poorly expensive and well-tolerated diagnostic strategy with relevant advantages over histological biopsies. Moreover, evidences suggest that, in expert hands, FNAC can also aim at a definite diagnosis, especially if a cell block is prepared, allowing the application of multiple ancillary techniques.

Abstract
Background Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) represent the most frequent mesenchymal tumor of the gastrointestinal tract. Less than 5% of them seem to be hereditary, being succinate dehydrogenase complex (SDHx) deficient disorders and neurofibromatosis type 1 the more related inherited conditions. Wild type (WT) KIT and PDGFRα GISTs constitute a clue for a hypothetical underlying germline condition. Case presentation We present a case of a 20 years old female diagnosed of a gastric WT GIST who developed hepatic metastases during her clinical course. No significant or typical phenotypic features suggestive of a specific syndrome were detected by physical examination. Also, her family history seemed to be irrelevant, since no other cases of GISTs, paragangliomas or pheochromocytomas were reported. Her paternal grandfather died as a consequence of a pituitary adenoma. In light of the age of tumor presentation and somatic features of gastric GIST, we performed genetic testing of SDHx genes. Analysis obtained from peripheral blood sample revealed the presence, in heterozygous state, of the c.1A > C; p.(Met1?) pathogenic variant in the SDHA. Conclusions To the best of our knowledge, this is the first published report in which the c.1A > C; p.(Met1?) pathogenic variant in the SDHA is associated with a GIST. SDHA pathogenic variants increase the risk of paraganglioma, pheochromocytoma, GIST, pituitary adenoma and renal cancer in an autosomal dominant inherited condition named paraganglioma syndrome type 5. The absence of family history of tumors in SDHA pathogenic variants carriers could be related to its low penetrance. All patients diagnosed with WT GISTs should be referred to a hereditary cancer genetic counseling unit regardless of the age at presentation or the absence of a suspicious family history.

Abstract
Despite the success of imatinib in advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) patients, 50% of the patients experience resistance within two years of treatment underscoring the need to get better insight into the mechanisms conferring imatinib resistance. Here the microRNA and mRNA expression profiles in primary (imatinib-naïve) and imatinib-resistant GIST were examined. Fifty-three GIST samples harboring primary KIT mutations (exon 9; n = 11/exon 11; n = 41/exon 17; n = 1) and comprising imatinib-naïve (IM-n) (n = 33) and imatinib-resistant (IM-r) (n = 20) tumors, were analyzed. The microRNA expression profiles were determined and from a subset (IM-n, n = 14; IM-r, n = 15) the mRNA expression profile was established. Ingenuity pathway analyses were used to unravel biochemical pathways and gene networks in IM-r GIST. Thirty-five differentially expressed miRNAs between IM-n and IM-r GIST samples were identified. Additionally, miRNAs distinguished IM-r samples with and without secondary KIT mutations. Furthermore 352 aberrantly expressed genes were found in IM-r samples. Pathway and network analyses revealed an association of differentially expressed genes with cell cycle progression and cellular proliferation, thereby implicating genes and pathways involved in imatinib resistance in GIST. Differentially expressed miRNAs and mRNAs between IM-n and IM-r GIST were identified. Bioinformatic analyses provided insight into the genes and biochemical pathways involved in imatinib-resistance and highlighted key genes that may be putative treatment targets.

Abstract
Various molecular triggers define heterogeneous subsets of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), differing in clinical behavior and drug sensitivity. KIT/PDGFRA-wild-type GISTs, including those succinate dehydrogenase (SDH)-deficient, are overall unresponsive to the tyrosine kinase inhibitors commonly used, fostering the development of specific alternative therapeutic strategies. Epigenetic inactivation of O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) through promoter methylation leads to effectiveness of alkylating agents in several human cancers. SDH-deficient GISTs typically feature widespread DNA methylation. However, the actual occurrence of MGMT methylation in these tumors, potentially predisposing them to respond to alkylating drugs, has not been investigated so far. Here we discuss the recent findings concerning the occurrence of MGMT methylation in different GIST subgroups, including SDH-deficient ones, as a premise for a possible reappraisal of alkylating agents specifically targeting these small, otherwise overall chemorefractory, GIST subgroups.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Succinate dehydrogenase (SDH)-deficient gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) constitute a small KIT/PDGFRA-WT GIST subgroup featuring DNA methylation which, although pervasive, appears nevertheless not randomly distributed. Although often indolent, these tumors are mostly chemorefractory in aggressive cases. Promoter methylation-induced O6-methylguanine DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) inactivation improves the efficacy of alkylating agents in gliomas, colorectal cancer and diffuse large B cell lymphoma. MGMT methylation has been found in some GISTs, without determining SDH status. Thirty-six GISTs were enrolled in past sarcoma trials testing alkylating agents, with negative results. Nevertheless, a possible effect on MGMT-methylated GISTs could have escaped detection, since tested GISTs were neither selected by genotype nor investigated for SDH; MGMT was studied in two cases only, revealing baseline activity; these trials were performed prior to the adoption of Choi criteria, the most sensitive for detecting GIST responses to therapy. Under these circumstances, we investigated whether MGMT methylation is preferentially found in SDH-deficient cases (identified by SDHB immunohistochemistry) by analyzing 48 pathogenetically heterogeneous GISTs by methylation-specific PCR, as a premise for possible investigations on the use of alkylating drugs in these tumors. RESULTS Nine GISTs of our series were SDH-deficient, revealing significantly enriched in MGMT-methylated cases (6/9-67%-, vs. 6/39-15%- of SDH-proficient GISTs; p = 0.004). The pathogenetically heterogeneous KIT/PDGFRA-WT GISTs were also significantly MGMT-methylated (11/24-46%-, vs. 1/24-4%- of KIT/PDGFRA-mutant cases, p = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS A subset of KIT/PDGFRA-WT GISTs, including their largest pathogenetically characterized subgroup (i.e., SDH-deficient ones), is preferentially MGMT-methylated. This finding could foster a reappraisal of alkylating agents for treating malignant cases occurring among these overall chemorefractory tumors.

Abstract
PDGFRA mutations in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract can cause GI stromal tumour (GIST) and inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP). Hitherto no cell type has been identified as a physiological counterpart of the latter, while interstitial Cajal cells (ICC) are considered the precursor of the former. However, ICC hyperplasia (ICCH), which strongly supports the ICC role in GIST pathogenesis, has been identified in germline KIT-mutant settings but not in PDGFRA-mutant ones, challenging the precursor role of ICC for PDGFRA-driven GISTs. Telocytes are a recently described interstitial cell type, CD34+/PDGFRA+. Formerly considered fibroblasts, they are found in many organs, including the GI tract where they are thought to be involved in neurotransmission. Alongside IFPs and gastric GISTs, GI wall "fibrosis" has been reported in germline PDGFRA-mutants. Taking the opportunity offered by its presence in a germline PDGFRA-mutant individual, we demonstrate that this lesion is sustained by hyperplastic telocytes, constituting the PDGFRA-mutant counterpart of germline KIT mutation-associated ICCH. Moreover, our findings support a pathogenetic relationship between telocyte hyperplasia and both IFPs and PDGFRA-mutant GISTs. We propose the term "telocytoma" for defining IFP, as it conveys both the pathogenetic (neoplastic) and histotypic ("telocytary") essence of this tumour, unlike IFP, which rather evokes an inflammatory-hyperplastic lesion.

Abstract
Gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs) can arise everywhere along the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Their presentation in unusual locations should always be taken into account. A 74-year-old man referred to the emergency department for small bowel obstruction caused by an incarcerated inguinal hernia. A CT scan showed a mesenchymal tumour originating from the herniated bowel loop and a mass in the ascending colon. Laparoscopic resection of the mass and laparoscopic right hemicolectomy were performed. The histology showed a ruptured GIST arising from the herniated small bowel and a high-grade dysplasia villous adenoma of the right colon. GISTs can present with symptoms spanning from vague abdominal discomfort to surgical urgencies. Strangulated hernia is an extremely rare presentation, with only two cases described in the literature. A safe surgical approach was obtained with laparoscopy, maintaining surgical radicality. The ileal localisation and the pseudocapsule rupture were the main risk factors on prognostic stratification.

Abstract
Several evidences showed that patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) develop additional malignancies. However, thorough incidence of second tumors remains uncertain as the possibility of a common molecular pathogenesis.A retrospective series of 128 patients with histologically proven GIST treated at our institution was evaluated. Molecular analysis of KIT and PDGFR-α genes was performed in all patients. Following the involvement of KRAS mutation in many tumors' pathogenesis, analysis of KRAS was performed in patients with also second neoplasms.Forty-six out of 128 GIST patients (35.9%) had a second neoplasm. Most second tumors (52%) raised from gastrointestinal tract and 19.6% from genitourinary tract. Benign neoplasms were also included (21.7%). Molecular analysis was available for 29/46 patients with a second tumor: wild-type GISTs (n. 5), exon 11 (n. 16), exon 13 (n. 1), exon 9 (n. 1) KIT mutations, exon 14 PDGFR-α mutation (n. 2) and exon 18 PDGFR-α mutation (n. 4). KIT exon 11 mutations were more frequent between patients who developed a second tumor (P = 0.0003). Mutational analysis of KRAS showed a wild-type sequence in all cases. In metachronous cases, the median time interval between GIST and second tumor was 21.5 months.The high frequency of second tumors suggests that an unknown common molecular mechanism might play a role, but it is not likely that KRAS is involved in this common pathogenesis. The short interval between GIST diagnosis and the onset of second neoplasms asks for a careful follow-up, particularly in the first 3 years after diagnosis.

Abstract
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal neoplasms of gastrointestinal tract. They feature heterogeneous triggering mechanisms, implying relevant clinical differences. The vast majority of GISTs are sporadic tumors. Rarely, however, GIST-prone syndromes occur, mostly depending on heritable GIST predisposing molecular defects involving the entire organism. These conditions need to be properly identified in order to plan appropriate diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic procedures. Clinically, GIST-prone syndromes must be thought of whenever GISTs are multiple and/or associated with accompanying signs peculiar to the background tumorigenic trigger, either in single individuals or in kindreds. Moreover, syndromic GISTs, individually considered, tend to show distinctive features depending on the underlying condition. When applicable, genotyping is usually confirmatory. In GIST-prone conditions, the prognostic features of each GIST, defined according to the criteria routinely applied to sporadic GISTs, combine with the characters proper to the background syndromes, defining peculiar clinical settings which challenge physicians to undertake complex decisions. The latter concern preventive therapy and single tumor therapy, implying possible surgical and molecularly targeted options. In the absence of specific comprehensive guidelines, this review will highlight the traits characteristic of GIST-predisposing syndromes, with particular emphasis on diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic implications, which can help the clinical management of these rare diseases.

Abstract
The vast majority of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) occur as sporadic tumors. Rarely, however, these neoplasms can arise in syndromic contexts. Under these circumstances, GISTs are often multiple and associated with accompanying signs peculiar of the hosting syndrome. Moreover, syndromic GISTs themselves tend to show heterogeneous features depending on the underlying condition. Multiple inflammatory fibroid polyps (IFPs) and a jejunal spindle-cell GIST were resected in a germline PDGFRA-mutant individual. Although the association of IFP and GIST is typical of this genetic setting (PDGFRA mutations can in fact trigger both these tumor types), PDGFRA-mutant GISTs are usually epithelioid and gastric. This discrepancy was settled evidencing a somatic KIT mutation in the GIST. The awareness of possible somatic mutations can be critical in the management of high-risk/malignant GISTs arising in syndromic settings. GIST features unusual for a given GIST-predisposing syndrome are a valuable tool in the hands of physicians for suspecting these "extra" triggers, which could not be sought for once a diagnosis of GIST-prone syndrome is well established, in a bona fide cost/benefit perspective.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Plexiform angiomyxoid myofibroblastic tumor (PAMT), also known as plexiform fibromyxoma, is a rare distinctive benign intramural tumor, typical of gastric antrum, commonly causing mucosal ulceration with upper gastrointestinal bleeding and anemia, effectively treated by complete surgical resection usually accomplished by distal gastrectomy. METHODS AND RESULTS We herein report a 47-year-old man presenting with a syncopal episode, regurgitation and epigastric discomfort, bearing a gastric antral myxoid plexiform tumor positive for α-smooth muscle actin, vimentin and, partially, for caldesmon, desmin, and CD10; CD117, DOG1, CD34, S100, CAM5.2, CK20, CK7, EMA, p53, CDX2, chromogranin A, synaptophysin, anaplastic lymphoma kinase, Melan-A, and HMB-45 were all negative. All these features are typical of PAMT. Of note, focal positivity for AE1/AE3 and pan-CK KL1 was also present. CONCLUSIONS The finding of a focal keratin expression in PAMT contributes to enlarge the immunophenotypic spectrum of this tumor type and is relevant for avoiding presurgical misdiagnoses which could ultimately lead to inappropriate overtreatment of patients with PAMT.

Abstract
Numerous types of KIT mutations have been reported in gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs); however, controversy still exists regarding their clinicopathological significance. In this study, we reviewed the publicly available literature to assess the data by a meta-analysis to characterize KIT mutations and different types of KIT mutations in prognostic prediction in patients with GISTs. Twenty-eight studies that included 4,449 patients were identified and analyzed. We found that KIT mutation status was closely correlated with size of tumors and different mitosis indexes, but not with tumor location. KIT mutation was also observed to be significantly correlated with tumor recurrence, metastasis, as well as the overall survival of patients. Interestingly, there was higher risk of progression in KIT exon 9-mutated patients than in exon 11-mutated patients. Five-year relapse-free survival (RFS) rate was significantly higher in KIT exon 11-deleted patients than in those with other types of KIT exon 11 mutations. In addition, RFS for 5 years was significantly worse in patients bearing KIT codon 557–558 deletions than in those bearing other KIT exon 11 deletions. Our results strongly support the hypothesis that KIT mutation status is another evaluable factor for prognosis prediction in GISTs.

Abstract
Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is a devastating disease in the metastatic setting, but its natural history has been dramatically altered by the development of small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitors, most notably imatinib. Although patients with advanced GIST live much longer today than they did in the past, imatinib-refractory disease remains a tremendous problem. For disease that is refractory to imatinib and sunitinib, regorafenib is an excellent option. In this review, we discuss the biology and clinical work establishing regorafenib as the standard of care for advanced GIST refractory to both imatinib and sunitinib.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) have KIT or platelet-derived growth factor receptor α (PDGFRα) mutations affecting receptor tyrosine kinase activity and do not benefit from classic treatment regimens. AIMS The aim of this study was to review the algorithm that may be followed for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis in GISTs by investigating the histomorphological parameters and expression characteristics of classical immunohistochemical antibodies used in routine tests in addition to DOG1 expression. STUDY DESIGN Diagnostic accuracy study. METHODS We reevaluated the histological and immunohistochemical parameters of 37 GISTs. The standard immunohistochemical diagnosis and differential diagnosis panel antibodies (CD117, PDGFRα, CD34, vimentin, desmin, SMA, S-100, and Ki67) were studied on the tumor sections. We also used the popular marker DOG1 antibody with accepted sensitivity for GISTs in recent years and the PDGFRα immune marker for which the benefit in routine practice is discussed. RESULTS Classification according to progressive disease risk groups of the 37 cases revealed that 54% were in the high risk, 19% in the moderate risk, 16% in the low risk, 8% in the very low risk and 8% in the no risk group. Cytological atypia, necrosis, mucosal invasion and the Ki67 index were found to be related to the progressive disease risk groups of the tumors (p<0.05). Positive immunoreaction was observed with CD117 and PDGFRα in all GISTs in the study (100%). Positivity with the DOG1 antibody was found in 33 (89%) cases. CD34 was positive in 62% (23) of the cases. CONCLUSION The CD117 antibody still plays a key role in GIST diagnosis. However, the use of DOG1 and PDGFRα antibodies combined with CD117 as sensitive markers can be beneficial.

Abstract
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. They are characterized by gain of function mutations in KIT or PDGFRA tyrosine kinase receptors, with their consequent constitutive activation. The gold standard therapy is imatinib that offers a good and stable response for approximately 18–36 months. However, resistance is very common and it is vital to identify new biomarkers. Up until now, there have been two main approaches with focus to characterize novel targets. On the one hand, the focus is on the tumor genome, as the final clinical outcome depends mainly from the cancer specific mutations/alterations patterns. However, the germline DNA is important as well, and it is inconceivable to think the patients response to the drug is not related to it. Therefore the aim of this review is to outline the state of the art of the personalized medicine in GIST taking into account both the tumor DNA (somatic) and the patient DNA (germline).

Abstract
Germline PDGFRA mutations cause multiple heterogeneous gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors. In its familial form this disease, which was formerly termed intestinal neurofibromatosis/neurofibromatosis 3b (INF/NF3b), has been included among familial gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) because of its genotype, described when GIST was the only known PDGFRA-mutant gastrointestinal tumor. Shortly afterwards, however, inflammatory fibroid polyps also revealed PDGFRA mutations. Subsequently, gastrointestinal CD34+ 'fibrous tumors' of uncertain classification were described in a germline PDGFRA-mutant context. Our aim was to characterize the syndrome produced by germline PDGFRA mutations and establish diagnostic criteria and management strategies for this hitherto puzzling disease. We studied a kindred displaying multiple gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors, comparing it with published families/individuals with possible analogous conditions. We identified a novel inherited PDGFRA mutation (P653L), constituting the third reported example of familial PDGFRA mutation. In adult mutants we detected inflammatory fibroid polyps, gastric GISTs and gastrointestinal fibrous tumors of uncertain nosology. We demonstrate that the syndrome formerly defined as INF/NF3b (exemplified by the family reported herein) is simplistically considered a form of familial GIST, because inflammatory fibroid polyps often prevail. Fibrous tumors appear variants of inflammatory fibroid polyps. 'INF/NF3b' and 'familial GIST' are misleading terms which we propose changing to 'PDGFRA-mutant syndrome'. In this condition, unlike KIT-dependent familial GIST syndromes, if present, GISTs are stomach-restricted and diffuse Cajal cell hyperplasia is not observed. This restriction of GISTs to the stomach in PDGFRA-mutant syndrome: (i) focuses oncological concern on gastric masses, as inflammatory fibroid polyps are benign; (ii) supports a selective role of gastric environment for PDGFRA mutations to elicit GISTs, justifying the known predilection for stomach of sporadic PDGFRA-mutant GISTs. An awareness that inflammatory fibroid polyps, relatively common among gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors, may be the prevailing tumor in PDGFRA-mutant syndrome could eventually reveal an unsuspected prevalence of this condition.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Current prognostication of gastrointestinal stromal tumours is validated on/applies to resected tumours, mainly because surgery is recommended whenever possible. However, pre-treatment prognostication is increasingly warranted, considering the follow-up strategy recently admitted for expectedly low-risk tumours and the possible distinctive molecular features/spontaneous regression of some small cases. AIMS To investigate whether endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle tissue acquisition-biopsies reflect prognosticators of resected gastrointestinal stromal tumours, for possibly developing reliable pre-treatment prognostic criteria. METHODS The applicability/reliability of mitotic index/5mm(2) and MIB1 proliferative index/1000 cells were tested in 35 endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle tissue acquisition-biopsies diagnosed as gastrointestinal stromal tumour, subsequently resected without intervening therapy, consecutively collected in thirty months. Size and mitotic/proliferative indexes were compared with resection specimens. The feasibility of bioptic genotyping was also tested. RESULTS 35 patients were studied (45.7% males; mean age 61.6 years, range 26-83 years). Mitotic/proliferative indexes were determinable in 68.6%/88.6% of biopsies, respectively; they were nevertheless underestimated, as happened with endoscopic ultrasound-determined tumour size. Bioptic genotyping revealed reliable. CONCLUSIONS Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle tissue acquisition does not reliably reflect gastrointestinal stromal tumours' proliferation and size. Alternative parameters should be validated for a pre-surgical prognostic classification. Considering the emerging potentially prognostic genetic markers in gastrointestinal stromal tumours, the reliability of bioptic genotyping is a promising result.

Abstract
Introduction Gastrointestinal stromal tumor is the most common sarcoma of the gastrointestinal tract. We report a case of gastrointestinal stromal tumor in a small intestine, initially suspected for leiomyosarcoma given that gastrointestinal stromal tumors in young adult patients are limited due to their rarity. Case presentation A 30-year-old Caucasian ethnic Albanian woman from Kosovo presented with abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. Subsequently, the tumor was detected in her small intestine, as an infiltrating mass approximately 10cm in diameter. The tumor was resected en bloc and duodenojejunal terminal-terminal anastomosis was performed. The tumor was a large, bulky, intramural mass, with fish-flesh to tan-brown appearance, as well as with foci of hemorrhage and necrosis. On histological examination the tumor showed transmural growth, deep infiltrative pattern and malignant feature, with mitotic count >5 per 50 high-power field, dense cellularity with plump spindle cells, and with eosinophilic cytoplasm within variably hyalinized and edematous stroma, skeinoid fibers (extracellular collagen globules) and foci of hemorrhage. In addition, the tumor was composed of areas with epithelioid morphology. The immunohistochemistry results showed high expression of proto-oncogene c-kit, CD117, CD34 and vimentin, whereas α-smooth muscle actin was focally positive. Desmin and S-100 protein were negative. Conclusions Gastrointestinal stromal tumor should be included in the differential diagnoses of intestinal mesenchymal tumors presenting as a single mass in young female adults. Given that gastrointestinal stromal tumors in young adults represent a more heterogeneous group than gastrointestinal stromal tumor in pediatric cases, more effort should be made to investigate its pathogenesis and potentially more specific treatment.
